Rizzi: Okay.
Devy: I don't know how they're gonna win, but I think regardless we're gonna win. That's all that's all I'm gonna say.
Rizzi: I listen, I'm excited. I've been thinking about this. I've been thinking about op I've been thinking about the Jets opening up the season since the schedule came out.
Dutchie: February.
Rizzi: I probably, yeah, probably like as soon as we as soon as the clock hit double zeros last year, I was already thinking about this season. I like there is no part of me that ever thinks that that ever doesn't get excited. Like I always will be excited for the Jets, no matter what. Obviously on I'm on the far end of the optimistic spectrum, but I do I not only do I think that they're gonna win, I I kind of expect them to win. I think they are that much better than this Titans team. I think the Titans like everything you hear at a camp, everything on Titans Twitter is like this team is a mess right now. And it's kinda it gives me a little PTSD from when from from Salah's regime here with us. Like it's kind of the same shit. Their defense looks soft all off season. Cam Ward looks like a mess. He looked like Shades of Zach in the preseason. So I don't know. I'm excited. I expect to win. I think we win twenty seven ten. And yeah, Duchy, kick it to you.
Dutchie: Yeah, I mean I think I we talked about it before, like I don't I don't wanna call it a must win. I think that's tough week one, but I mean like this is a pretty like if this is a loss, like that's I don't know. It's bad. Like it's not gonna be good. Yeah, I it's a
Devy: I think it's a boss win. I personally think it's a must win.
Dutchie: it's it's bad. Yeah. I mean it it so I I do think they're gonna come out and they're gonna be competitive. I'm actually excited to see the offense play, which is crazy to hear. But
Devy: Yeah.
Dutchie: I mean like I I I just I I I think Gino's gonna be airing it out. I think it's gonna I think he's gonna try and have a little fun with it. I think it's gonna be fun to watch, hopefully. and I mean we're
Devy: I'm hoping that's sorry, go ahead.
Rizzi: A hundred percent.
Dutchie: going no, I'm sorry, we're going against like what, seven X players too on that defense? Like it's crazy how many people are on that defense that used to be on the Jets. It's nuts
Rizzi: Mm-hmm.
Dutchie: how many guys he brought down there. So go ahead,
Devy: Yeah.
Dutchie: Devin.
Devy: Yeah, i i I I'm hoping it's one of those games where it's just like I don't know, I I'm the vibe I'm getting from this game is Sam stay beautiful with the lines. I think it's a start out really embarrassing, like something or horrible is gonna happen. Like kick Quick Six, yeah, or or like a kick
Dutchie: Pick six, first throw, right? Isn't that what that was? Yeah.
Rizzi: I could see that coming.
Devy: like a kick return for a touchdown, the kick the the start
Dutchie: Yeah.
Devy: of the game, like something awful like that is gonna happen, but I think that we're gonna settle in and we're gonna hand it to them. honestly a month ago I didn't think that way at all. I thought that it was gonna be like a really tight, messy game, but the way I've seen the Titans in the offseason, like you said, it's they've been awful. Absolutely awful. And honestly, it it's pretty funny. Like you look at side by side comparison of the two teams and the Jets when they're asked about week one, they're asked about the season, you know, it's bigger picture. It's one week at a time. It's, you know, win the games. Let's let's find ways to win games. And then you ask the Titans and They're all all they're talking about is the Jets. Like, are we really that rent free in your head that you are talking about the Jets? Like, even Salah, I mean, he came back and said that he wasn't talking about the Jets this and that, but I mean he Yeah, he walked it back.
Dutchie: Yeah, he walked it back. He walked it back big time.
Devy: Yeah, it was ridiculous. I mean Dapel's been pretty quiet about the Giants. At least I I mean I haven't heard anything about that, but I know they played them I think week three, which is a must win game on the Giants side of thing. Yeah. But
Rizzi: wow. I didn't know they played them. shit.
Devy: Yeah, I think they played in week three at MetLife, which for the Johnny's, that's a pretty tough game. They that's a must win, because there's a good chance they can start out season one and two.
Rizzi: Yeah.
Devy: and then for the Jets, it's it's I I think it's a must win. especially with the way the next three games go after that. If you set the tone right, you win this game. No matter how you win this game, to be honest with you, like start out the season on a positive note. Like you haven't won
Rizzi: Mm-hmm.
Devy: a Sunday week one game in I think it was what, eleven years? Eleven years yet.
Rizzi: Eleven years. Yeah. Yeah.
Dutchie: It's twenty fifteen. It's the fit's magic year, I'm pretty sure. Like legit.
Devy: Yeah, a hundred yeah.
Dutchie: Like
Devy: Which is crazy. That's that's the cause prior to that, week one was usually a pretty good week for us. The Chesman usually win week one pretty often. So,
Rizzi: Mm-hmm.
Devy: you know, it's I think it's definitely a must win. the only thing that I think that's going against them right now is the Peter Griffins. That's that's the only thing that you know it is. But you know what? Let's let's change the narrative. You know the Peter Griffins are gonna be our winning combo this year. You know, let's let's change the narrative. Nothing matters. It's a fucking uniform, but Yeah, but I think they can I think they they need to win this game.
Rizzi: I I'd rather go No, go ahead, go ahead.
Dutchie: Week one last year squadros, sorry. I was saying week one last year was like exciting kind of. I mean it was a probably one of our best games of the year, like legitimately. Aga against
Rizzi: It was a h well hands down our best game of the year.
Dutchie: this we we lost, but I again going back to the must win thing it's the last time I touched on it, it's at least a must compete. Like we have to
Rizzi: Yeah.
Dutchie: compete in the game. But I yeah.
Devy: You know what's crazy too, is if you win that game week one, how do you come out week two against Buffalo? You know what I mean? Like losing that game
Rizzi: Yeah, last year, yeah.
Devy: in the way they did was very defeating. You know what I mean? They they it was an awful way to end that game with Rogers coming back and all that. Like it it it's one of those it was one of those revenge games and th they were on the wrong side of it again. so like I think you just gotta write the script differently this year.
Rizzi: A hundred percent. And to touch on the Peter Griffins, like I I don't know why their away uniform isn't just white jersey, white pants. It's so clean with the green helmets. Yeah, a hundred percent.
Dutchie: Put the white pants on, man. Like, my God.
Rizzi: And to
Devy: I don't I don't think they can though because the Titans wearing white pants. Yes. Yeah, so they they're
Rizzi: okay. That must be like yeah, that must be like an NFL rule.
Dutchie: Really?
Devy: they're going blue on white, so I think they have to be the opposite color for pants, yeah. Yeah.
Rizzi: Interesting. Okay. That makes sense. and
Dutchie: Okay.
Rizzi: then to touch on like the must win factor, like as optimistic as I am and as positive as I am, like I have them going ten and seven and making the playoffs. But if you lose this game, like you might not your first win might not be until the Browns, if that. I think this Titans team is gonna be horrible. So if you can't beat this team week one Like you're not you're I mean, anything could happen. The the Packs lost to the Raiders last year, week one, but you're probably not coming home and beating the Packers. Then you gotta go on the road to the Lions and then the and then the Bears. Like, are you really gonna find a win in those three games? Probably not. But if you
Devy: No.
Rizzi: come out, win this game, you know, convincingly, like look the part, look like a legitimate NFL team, and and do what you're supposed to do. Like you are you are supposed to beat this team. From what has been coming out of camp, from the way this team is From the way the Jets are talking about playoffs and how the culture is changing and all these they brought all these veteran and veterans in and the talent we have on offense and AG calling plays now, it's a superpower. Like, if you don't go and win this game, like as even as positive as I am, like you could just fire AG now. As crazy as it sounds. Like
Devy: I I mean I agree. No, I mean I like it's it I think Matt said it the other day, like they lose that game, like he's like he's like, I'm out. Like like th they that's inexcusable. Like it's just like you've you've had all all season to prep for this team, they're nowhere near excuse me, they're nowhere near the talent level on the offensive side of the ball. Defense I'd say it's pretty side by side comparison, they're they're pretty terrible there also, considering it's half of our team. so yeah, and then you know, you win this game. You have a legit shot of starting the seasonal two and all. And then you could say okay, let's say the first four weeks, two and two. I mean, I would fucking sign off for that right now. Like I would it
Rizzi: Hundred percent.
Devy: the things I would do for two and two after the first four weeks are would be insane.
Dutchie: Two and two out of the first four is like outstanding. Like that would be
Rizzi: I'm selfishly.
Devy: I'll just say
Dutchie: that would be outstanding.
Rizzi: Selfishly I want them
Devy: I mean
Rizzi: to win the home opener just 'cause we're gonna we're all gonna be there.
Devy: I I a lot of the energy now th they're gonna be able to you know it's
Dutchie: Yeah, that's correct. Yeah.
Rizzi: Yeah. But if it's gonna be two and two then I want it to be the Titans and the Packers. Then you go on the road and lose the two games
Dutchie: To it all.
Rizzi: and no one cares.
Devy: Yeah, I mean honestly, I don't know if this is wrong to say. I'm fine with them starting one and three. You know what I mean? If they if they can win week one and if you lose to the Packers, the Lions, and the Bears, games that you're really not supposed to win, depending on how they play in those three games, I'm fine with that. Because then you have they have the Browns after the Bears.
Rizzi: It's the Yeah, it's the Browns and then they come home to the Browns and then they go over to Foxboro. Week five and six.
Dutchie: That's after that. W
Devy: Two and three.
Dutchie: let me ask you guys this. What which game of the three in the NFC North that we rip right off in two weeks two to four do you think is the most winnable? Packers, Lions, or Bears?
Devy: Lions. well Packers
Rizzi: I think it's the Packers.
Devy: the Packers for sure, but if I had to pick one of those road games, it's the Lions. I think the Lions are very overrated. I think the Bears are gonna take a huge leap. I think Ben Johnson proved that he's legit. I Caleb Williams took a
Dutchie: Yeah.
Devy: big jump and they really progressed well there. And that's also a really tough place to play. So was Detroit, but Detroit it was nowhere near as good as they were last year. They didn't do anything really to get better either this offseason. If anything, they got worse. I think the league just figured them out, honestly, and kind of what they were doing. they kind of hit their ceiling and that's it. but just roster construction wise and just because of how they usually start the season, the Packers is the most minimal game. They usually start the season off pretty slow. The offense is usually pretty terrible to start. No touch take up either. Yeah.
Dutchie: Yeah. I agree. I think it's the Packers too. I agree. Yeah. I I one thing I will say is I I think I want to see week one first, how this offense goes, but I I I mean if it goes well we we could find ourselves in a shootout in Chicago with just two horrendous defenses going back and
Rizzi: Yeah.
Dutchie: forth, like with these offenses that can potentially be pretty good.
Devy: Yeah, I mean I I would be fun.
Dutchie: That'd be so much fun.
Devy: I saw something today, I forget who tweeted it. I forget who tweeted, but there was it was someone who was saying it was they were picking their biggest unexpected breakout teams of the of each season. And I forget who it was the first one. Might have been the Bucks, maybe. It might have been the Bucks the first year with Baker, and then it was the commanders of Jaden Daniels, and then it was the Path last year, and then this year they picked the Jets. So I mean, everything that you hear, people that aren't Jets haters are they're saying this team they can win seven games. And that that's kind of where I fell. I think this team can win seven games. I mean, if you get if Gino plays okay, you're you you mistakenly will win seven games. There's six very winnable games on your schedule. There's no excuse for it.
Rizzi: And if you and if you could win seven, then that means you're gonna be in enough games to where like maybe a bounce or two goes your way and then it ends up being nine or ten. Like if you're if you're if you're a seven
Devy: Yeah, look at the top end so you know.
Rizzi: win team, you're probably gonna be in a lot of your games, regardless. And you know, maybe
Devy: Yeah. I mean
Rizzi: you surprise someone like the Broncos or you surprise the Chargers or
Dutchie: Bills.
Rizzi: the Bills, like who I think are gonna be I think the Bills are gonna struggle this year as well, but not
Devy: You know
Rizzi: not struggle to the extent that we might, but like Ten and seven, nine and eight, like a bad year for the Bills for the for their standards.
Devy: I can see that. I can see that. I can definitely see that. so being a top team in the league, they usually have one of the more difficult schedules. you know something with the Jets that I think I like out of the schedule, the one game that I think that the Jets are the biggest opportunity upset in and everyone's calling it crazy for is the Denver game. I mean We beat them twice in Denver, obviously completely different teams. They came back where Rogers when Rogers came back, this was the year after the Tourist Achilles, and we should have won that game and we didn't. And we should have won that game last year too, if Justin Fields could throw the ball. Or Dick Folk can kick a field goal. I I I don't know. I'm just that that's the one team in the AOC I'm just nuts sold on is the Roncos. I Their defense is insane, but like I'm just not sold them, and I think that is a winnable game for sure. And then on the other side of it, from the NFC side, I think the Vikings are the game late in the year that either we're gonna get a late win in the season, we're gonna finish with eight wins, or we're gonna have two wins or one win, and that's gonna be our second win because that's such
Dutchie: Yeah.
Devy: a typical game to win them.
Dutchie: Looking at the the back end of that schedule there, like where you're saying we could surprise the Broncos and and the Vikings and all that, like that that could be end of the season with like five straight wins or six straight wins 'cause you got the Dolphins and you got the Pats and like in there too. And sorry, you got
Rizzi: Talk to me nice now, Nick.
Dutchie: the Dolphins and the Cardinals and the Pats in there as well. So like in it
Devy: Is it the Alphins of Miami though?
Dutchie: It's it's at Miami, yeah. It's at it it goes at Miami
Rizzi: You know what, I know I know everyone
Devy: Yeah, I wanted to get
Dutchie: Denver at Arizona, Pats at home, Vikings at home, at the Bills, who could be sitting everybody.
Devy: Dolphins Dolphins on the road, they never win that game. Ever.
Rizzi: You know, I I know,
Dutchie: Allo, allo, allo.
Rizzi: I know I know everyone is saying that, but We I think the Dolphins are going to be horrendous like horrendous. Zero wins. Two wins. I think we're gonna be a good team. I like to me it's like you're gonna you could go to Miami and beat them. I don't care about struggling in Miami. Like I know I don't know when the last time we beat them. Maybe when we the last time we beat them, I think was when Gino was when we had Gino, like twenty sixteen was the last time we went to Miami and won. But it's doable. Like Yeah.
Devy: There's a lot of games that we should have we should have won too.
Rizzi: And and you're like you're right, it
Dutchie: A ton.
Rizzi: is a it is a house of horrors and like maybe there is that just weird juju where you can't go and win there. But I think that Miami team's gonna be so bad and I think we're gonna be so much better than everybody thinks that I'm all it's terrible to say, but I'm like penciling it as a win. Like penciling it as a win.
Dutchie: But if you if you if you look at that end of the schedule right there, I mean like that like it's it's not the most difficult finish. It's the the beginning
Rizzi: No.
Dutchie: of the year's a lot harder. So it's like you could see us like the fucking horse coming around the corner tight to the rail, busting up.
Devy: Which which I'm good with, which I I actually prefer like for their schedule structures are rather than get those difficult games out in the beginning of the year because those are that's when you have the chance of winning those games, it's early in the season. Once you get late
Dutchie: Yeah.
Devy: in the year, you're banged up, these teams have found their groove, they're competing for a playoff spot if and we we probably won't be, but you know, those are the games that at the late end of the year, those are the games you get absolutely fucking blown out. Like those like you've you've seen it every year. Like those are the games that you never could even compete in. Early season, that's where you can make magic happen. You can win games like that. I mean, look at the Jaguars last year. I think they're really a great example. That they were very low expectations. They were expected to be dog shit. Everyone's saying Liam Collins would be a one and out, and that's it. One and done there in Jacksonville. And you know, they won a couple of games they probably shouldn't have earlier in the year. They hung in there with the Chiefs and they ended up having a fantastic year. but they've regressed this year, probably. I think a lot of the teams that were good last year are gonna regress this year, but I don't understand like that can be us. That can definitely be us. I at the end of the day, it comes down to the health of Geno Smith and what is this defense gonna do? Personally, I think our defense with the acquisitions that we made, I think people are sleeping on on a little bit. I think Demaro Davis brings stability to the the linebacker.
Dutchie: Huge.
Devy: Make a fuspatching is another veteran down in that secondary, which I think is massive, which we've never had before. And if David Bailey performs like we expect him to. I mean come on, you've got three three impact players at three premium positions there. So, you know, I think that's that's a great start. Will it be perfect? No. But all you asked for is top fifteen. That's that's all you need.
Rizzi: Yeah. A and you know, talking about the schedule, like everyone saying, we're gonna be out of it, we're not gonna be good because we start the start of the season so hard. Like after week you get you get to the end of week eight, it's very feasible that we could be four and four. Like you get the t let's say you beat the Titans, you beat the Browns, you beat the Dolphins, and you beat the Raiders. That's without stealing any that's without stealing any other games of the
Devy: It's three rounds.
Rizzi: the Packers, the Lions, the Bears. And the Pats. Like you could be four and four going to Kansas City easily. If if you if if you if you
Devy: Okay, Titans do it. Yeah.
Rizzi: if you go and win week one. If you don't go and we win week one, then it could be miserable. But if you go and win week one and look like a normal football team, like there's no reason why you should not be in the hunt at the end of October. Like in to start November.
Dutchie: I know it's I know it's week one too and we watch watched the Pats last night, that came puke fest. But like you like that that g those two games now are all of a sudden like th they're fifty fifty in my opinion, just from watching that team last night. Like
Rizzi: Yeah. That team that was came out there last night is exactly the team that I thought the Pats would be this year.
Devy: I I totally agree. I think they're dog shit.
Dutchie: Mm-hmm.
Devy: I do not think they're a good team. I I really don't.
Dutchie: Dude, some of the balls Drake Nate was throwing were just I mean, it was it was so bad.
Devy: 'Cause that's what he is. Like, there's nothing against like Drake May, like as I mean, if he wasn't a patriot, I wouldn't care, but he's he's a patriot. So he's a dump off merchant. That's what he is. He's quick flat routes, that's it. Like you're not gonna like you can stay in games and you can do enough there, but when it comes down to the throw you' throw him with the ball you have to throw the ball downfield. I mean we we've been begging for that for years. Like, throw the ball downfield and every time he threw the ball downfield it was an awful throw and You know, and or it was a turnover. And it it's really funny 'cause Eagle fans are like, This is exactly what people get on Jalen Hurts for and he gets so much hate for it. But
Dutchie: If Jalen Hurts threw that flea flicker last night, like if he's the one that my god. my god.
Devy: forget dude he'd be dragged through the sheets of Philly. Yeah, he'd be he'd be not.
Rizzi: And Antonio Brown or Antonio Brown. my god. AJ Brown would have been frickin' reading his book on the sideline and demanding a trade as soon as the game ends
Devy: Yeah. Yeah. But you know, it's but Jalen Hurts has strongly he can, you know, win big games and it doesn't matter but what it is.
Rizzi: Right. Sewer ball MVP.
Devy: Yeah, I mean he's he's a winner at the end of the day, Drake May isn't. You know, he's right now he's a loser until he until he wins something. And
Rizzi: A hundred percent.
Devy: you know, it's you look back the last year too, when the team the Jets really weren't anything at this time. I think this was coming off the Cincinnati when we went to Foxborough on a Thursday night. We were hanging in that game for a little bit. You know what I mean? Our defense was just terrible. And there was a lot of really awful calls for penalties and everything there. But we were hanging around in that game. We good quarterback player games were anyway. No.
Dutchie: I couldn't even name half the guys in that defense either. Like I literally couldn't even name like half the starters in that defense at that time of the year.
Devy: No. But
Rizzi: A hundred percent.
Devy: I remember one there was like a PI call against it was I don't know who it was, but they were covering Diggs and it was just a terrible call. Diggs literally tripped over his own feet and they called PI on and it was just like t so typical. Like such a typical
Dutchie: Mm-hmm.
Devy: call. but yeah, I I mean that like you said, those are fifty-fifty games I think we can win. I still have really no faith against Buffalo, to be conest. I just they have had our number, man. Like like it hasn't even like we've been competitive other than that one win. with Zachin a couple of years ago and then obviously the Monday night game, which you can't even really chalk that up either. But I they they've just been blowing us out like they just know tomorrow. They literally they s they spit on us, they bend us over, and they fuck us every single time. That that's literally what they do.
Rizzi: Yes. They do. They don't even spit on us. They don't even give us the courtesy of that. I
Devy: it's it's yeah.
Dutchie: No we don't even get that.
Rizzi: yeah, I I I I do kind of agree. I I just I just think the Bills are not gonna be this juggernaut that everybody thinks they are, just 'cause I think Sean McDermott was actually a good head coach. Like he should not have gotten fired. Like he got a the raw end of the end of the stick.
Devy: No. And if Glenn gets fired, th I want I want redarm it so fast dude. Yeah.
Rizzi: He should at least be considered. Yeah. and I just we could I kinda wanna see like what are you guys looking for going into this game? Like what's what are the things we're like obviously you don't want to lose, but it's like if we lose but I see X, Y, and Z, it's like okay, like I can maybe talk myself into this being an OK season eat regardless. Which is hard to do.
Dutchie: This this is gonna sound like this is gonna sound s sad for me, but I I I just wanna see us move the ball. Like just get like legitimately just like first downs, like move the ball, like look like a competent offense that can operate and call proper plays. 'Cause like we couldn't do I I we could not do that last year. Like we c I don't wanna see like the run up the middle on second and nine for one yard and then we're staring third and seven down the barrel every single time or third and eight down the bar. I just can't I can't watch that again. So it's like that to me that's what I I could watch the defense get like I could I can tolerate that more than the offense just not doing anything then putting that defense right back out on the field to have to deal with the same thing and get gash left to right. So I I to me I need to see the offense. They need to show me something.
Devy: I think on my side it's on the opposite side of the ball, it's on the defense side of the ball. If they lose this game but they lose it in a low scoring game and the defense base decent enough that keeps them in the game and if worse a turnover, I can talk myself into like, all right, like this this is just the end of the world because I think that the offense could figure it out. whereas if the defense can come and, you show up, I think that's a big that's a that's a that's a I don't wanna say it's like a it's a win, but like it's it's a positive sign if the if the defense can show up and at least force a turnover and get an interception. because again, like it's not uncommon for offenses to struggle to start the year. I don't think that we will. I think that actually this is a good opportunity for us, but you know, it's it's not uncommon to see that. And, you know, that can take a couple of weeks. I mean we even start with Rogers.
Dutchie: Yeah.
Devy: You know what I mean? Like the first like couple of weeks are and then like week three they just fucking they they lit up the path that week. You know what I mean? Like it's it was one of those. So obviously completely different team, complete different quarterback, you know, everything was different there. But it it goes to show like, you know, we had such high hopes for that offense. And the first two weeks you're like, what the fuck is this? And then eventually it just clicks. It just takes a little bit of time.
Rizzi: Mm. Yeah. Go ahead.
Dutchie: I got one more too, real quick. Just penalties. Like, I mean th we we we take the dumbest penalties sometimes and like just keep just undisciplined. I've can't I just don't wanna watch that again. I hope I'm hoping we
Devy: The one thing with the
Dutchie: see the Bob Sala on the other side of the ball on the Titans.
Rizzi: Mm-hmm.
Dutchie: Hope I hope they're taking him left and right. But
Devy: Yeah, I I I definitely agree with that, but after seeing how that game was called last night, it it really depends on what the calls are for me. Because I can see it
Dutchie: Mm-hmm.
Devy: as getting a lot of penalties, but the calls just being bullshit calls. 'cause last last night
Dutchie: a hundred percent. Yeah, yeah.
Devy: the the a lot of those calls were just they were kind of ridiculous. Like they and there was a lot of missed calls too. Like there was a lot of holding calls and like the like just holding jerseys, like it was not a really great officiated game at all. But if you say but if we're getting like fucking those parts of my conduct that's what we'll play. roughing the passer out, I'm gonna fucking shoot myself. any late hits and things like that, like that's gonna be the stuff that kind of like pisses me off. but the other stuff, if it happens, it's like it really depends on the play. Like I I expect a lot of penalties to be called.
Rizzi: Yeah. Yeah, I mean I I I don't know if the NFL 'cause I noticed that last night too, and I noticed it in the f in the little bit of the the game tonight that the beginning I that I watched. It doesn't seem like these refs have a quick trigger to throw any flags, which is a good thing. Like maybe the NFL is making an emphasis of like we don't want to be known as a league that is like the no fun league and it just constantly flags all the time. Maybe that is a point of emphasis in week one. I don't know. But you're right, like I had I had written down here, you guys touch on it both. I said I had modern offense. Like I want the offense to look modern and fun to watch. and that's kind of a worry that I had with Frank Wright, 'cause he is so old school. and then I have written down here, I want the defense to look well put together. Like, if you give up points, fine, like big plays, fine, that shit's gonna happen. But if it's like last year, Jamie and Sherrod running around like a chicken without his head and not knowing where to be, and running in the wrong direction and like just like pee wee football type shit. That's what I've what I would have a problem with, I think, the most out of anything, because this is supposed to be this is AG's time to actually take control of the defense like he said he was gonna do. And you know, he needs to take he's taking ownership of of it, so it has to look good. And so the the one other thing I had here was just AG game management. Like just please be a normal head coach and manage the clock into the half, manage the end of the game.
Dutchie: Yeah, n
Rizzi: Manage your
Dutchie: yep.
Rizzi: timeouts, manage your challenges. Like, please look like a normal head coach. You have no excuse now. Like last year, it was your first year. You you you you had all these things going on around the team, maybe and you had the excuse of the team just being bad and that solid rot, like still being there. Now you have no excuse. Like you fire the whole coaching staff, basically, besides yourself. Like you need to do something. Like you you need to prove it. And like I said, I love A G. I'm
Dutchie: He's gotta have a guy in his ear, right? Like he has to have that. There there has to be a guy that's just like in his ear,
Rizzi: Yes. He has you would think. Yeah.
Dutchie: just only his only focus is g clock and just managing the game.
Rizzi: Managing. Yeah. Exactly. Right. And like as
Devy: I think.
Rizzi: as I love AG and I want him to succeed, but he needs to prove it. This they need to w like this is on him. Defense, offense, everything. They need to come out and they need to just win this game and he needs to look like an NFL coach.
Devy: I wonder how much Frank Frike plays into that. definitely definitely nowhere near Steve Wilkes being a veteran mentor on the staff. I think Frank Frig is much more of a professional. Also, just given, you know, his history in the league, I think he's a definitely has a little bit more proof in the putting there. and then also what can also help AG is having a veteran quarterback. You know what I mean? A guy that has been in the league for 14 years, you know, he's seen it. He's been on some great coaching staffs. he's seen the worst of it, he's seen the best of it. I think that's something that, you know, helps a lot because he can kind of control the game himself also, which takes a lot of pressure off of AG. Whereas Tilson Fields, you're coaching him on every little single play. Every single little play. And is Geno Smith another lead quarterback? No, not by any means at all. But he's still experienced, you know, he he's still n he might not have the same abilities, but he definitely has a mind that you can rely on. Excuse me. and then yeah, I mean, I definitely agree with that. I think he said all the right things, acknowledging where he went wrong last year. you know, he was definitely very hard on himself. And you can see it too also in in things that are as simple as managing the media. He's been much better at that, this offseason compared to last. much more mellow, not so rah-rah, not so cocky, not no ego really there. It's more so like, yeah, I need to prove it. Like it's like he he knows that he's got a chip on his shoulder. The one thing that I thought was kind of interesting that came out, I think I think Connor Hughes tweeted it or he put an article out about it, is that regardless of what happens this year, Aaron Glenn's keeping his job. I'm not sure if you guys saw that.
Rizzi: I saw that.
Dutchie: I did not.
Rizzi: I think he he that Connor Hughes put it out and I think Zack Rosenblatt had like this big article in The Athletic,
Devy: Yeah.
Rizzi: which I don't subscribe to, so I didn't read it. But I listened to a little bit of his podcast that he does under like the Badlands umbrella. And he basically said like the relationship between Woody and A. G is closer than anybody thinks. And one thing I did love that he said he said that basically before he During the interview d interviewing process, A G was like everyone get out of the room besides Woody and they had like this closed door meeting and who knows what was said. But I think it was basically like A G was like, Listen, like if you're gonna hire me, you need to trust me and you need to let me do my thing and you can't get be meddling and all this shit. So it's very interesting, and I do and I've been saying this all summer to anyone that would listen, is like just because the Jets go four and thirteen or five and twelve again. I don't think he's I don't think that means he's automatically fired. Even if I think he should be like I I I don't I won't be I won't accept a four and thirteen, five and twelve season and then keeping him. But I just don't know if it's as guaranteed as everybody thinks that he's gonna get
Devy: Maybe they're saying that to give them some confidence too. Because you saw
Rizzi: Yeah, maybe. Yeah, maybe not.
Devy: on the other side of it, a different sport, the Mets of Carlos Mendoza. That's all they were talking about was Mendoza being fired, Mendoza being fired, Mendoza being fired. And you know, that does a lot to a team if you know like it's tough because when you fuck up or you lose a game, it sinks in and the pressure really sinks in. Like maybe it's like listen, like, do your thing, coach, we got you, no matter what. They might not, but at the end of the day, we'll we'll see. I called into WFN last week and the question I actually asked is like, do you think that the Jets as an organization, not obviously Glenn involved, are tanking for a new head coach also? And that's where that came up essentially is like sounds like my Tomlin is the name that is being linked right now a lot to the Jets because he's obviously coming back to coach next year. There's no doubt about it.
Dutchie: He was horrendous on TV last night.
Devy: I really I thought it was actually pretty funny. I thought he was funny. Did you see the TikTok of it?
Rizzi: No.
Dutchie: Horrendous is the wrong word. It's just one of the weirdest things ever seeing him on TV. Like it yeah, it's just Yeah.
Devy: He's not made for TV. He he's a he's a he's a personality just not for TV. but you know, he's he's I don't know, I he's better than a lot of other people on TV, I'll say that. So I mean I'll I'll take
Dutchie: Yeah.
Devy: it. but that was a name that was linked to the Jets. it essentially though then the reports came out about Glenn and shut that down. So I think that's kind of why that might have came out. Can't rule it out though. I mean, if they are likely gonna be getting a top quarterback in the draft, they're still gonna have a ton of cap space. Everyone's saying, Why aren't the jets run an attractive job? I mean, come on, you're the guy that comes in and fixes the Jets. He's
Rizzi: And
Devy: taking that job. They gotta throw so much money at him, too. It's insane.
Rizzi: Right. And and I think it depends on how the four and thirteen, five and twelve, six and eleven, however, whatever the record is and Glenn gets fired, it depends on how that looks too. Like if the offense shows a ton of promise and Gino's just horrible, like constantly throwing picks and like that's why we lose games, or the secondary's getting gashed, but David Bailey looks great and some of the younger guys look good, that is infinitely more attractive than a three and fourteen where the offense looks bad, Cooper looks terrible. Sadiq doesn't look like the guy we thought he was. Brees looks old and h and slow. Like and like Garrett's asking out, like all that stuff. So then then it then it wouldn't be attractive. But yeah, like I don't care what anyone says, the Jets will be an attractive job. Like you said, if you come in and fix the Jets, you're a god. And and every coach in the NFL, if you're a head coach in the NFL, you have confidence in yourself no matter what. So you're gonna want to take that job.
Devy: Yeah, y you know, it doesn't matter about the organization and y you wanna be in the market. I mean, obviously the organizations are different, but Jim Harbaugh just went to a like th if it wasn't for Jackson Dart and the Giants, are they that attractive of a destination? No. And obviously,
Rizzi: No. Mm-mm.
Devy: I don't think even with Jackson Dart they're that attractive of a destination either.
Dutchie: Nope.
Devy: so he I mean, that's a guy that I mean he didn't waste any time going there at all. So I I definitely don't see that being problem but also it also depends on what else opens up. You know what I mean? There could be
Rizzi: Yeah, totally.
Devy: Andy Reed retire at the end of this year and then the chief's job is open. Who's
Rizzi: Right. Yeah.
Devy: saying no to that job. Kyle Shanahan can be fun at the end of this year. Which would be fucking sick. Kevin
Rizzi: Yep. That'd be cra I love Kyle Shanahan.
Devy: O'Connell, there's another one like there's only they can potentially
Rizzi: Kevin O'Connell, he could be our head coach.
Devy: if things don't go
Dutchie: Welcome to him with open arms.
Rizzi: Yeah, yeah.
Devy: yeah a hundred percent. If if things don't go the way that we intend them to You know what I mean? There's definitely could be a lot of options. The one thing that concerns me though with Kevin O'Connell is each other do Jeremy Carly.
Rizzi: Correct.
Devy: And he g gave up on him like that. I mean, good they move on from it quickly and not waste any time with it, but that's a bad valuation right there. Really bad. Everyone everyone knew. You know what I mean?
Rizzi: The only thing that I would s yeah, I agree. I
Dutchie: I wonder if he that was forced on him. I don't know. I mean like
Rizzi: was gonna say, because of how quickly the GM got fired, I wonder if like the GM really pushed for that and maybe O'Connell was the guy that pushed back and they were like, Nope, like we're still going with this 'cause I'm the the GM and maybe the GM convince ownership and whatnot. But yeah, but either way he had a he had
Devy: Maybe. Very possible. I mean, especially with the stuff with Sam also.
Rizzi: a part in it. And he gave up on Sam, right?
Devy: But is is that Ocama or is
Dutchie: That's that's
Rizzi: Right.
Dutchie: a com I think I think that's a combo deal. I think that's
Rizzi: Yeah, yeah. A hundred percent. So yeah, I mean,
Devy: Yeah. I mean
Rizzi: before we end, I think the one thing that I would like to hear from both of you. me myself being the positive guy, you guys know how I feel, but I think Devin out of everyone on the podcast is the most like normal, level headed take takes. Yeah, exactly. Like you you're you're like
Devy: I think I'm middle ground. I'm not overly negative unless it's like in the game.
Rizzi: Pip and Matt are
Dutchie: Middle man dam.
Rizzi: so far the other way, like Their hatred and negativity is almost just forced at this point. And me and you could say the same about me and Dutchie, or at least me, like my positivity is definitely definitely forced at times. So I would love to hear Devin like what are your honest thoughts going into the season? And like if you took a lie detector test, like what do you think is how is this season gonna play out? Like what do you think of this team?
Devy: I think we're gonna shock people. I really do, honestly. that's generally how I believe. I think if you put me on a live title and I said we're gonna suck, it would go off saying that I'm lying. And it's kind of crazy because Grace asked me last night, are the Jets gonna be good this year? And I told her no, probably not. Because every year I tell her, Yeah, we're gonna this is we're gonna we're gonna be better than people think this year. So I you know what, I'm taking the opposite approach with her and telling her
Dutchie: I like that.
Devy: telling her, No, we're not gonna be good. But I I think The expectations being so freaking low that people are it's one of those things that everyone's just gonna think it's the Jets. It's the Jets and you know, it's gonna happen and I really do think we're gonna shock the world. I think I still think but by my means is is I think by shock the world is that we're gonna win games that we shouldn't early on in the year. We're gonna finish seven and ten. Which I will sign off for that. you put a contract down in front
Rizzi: So take that.
Devy: of me. I would take that any day of week. Yeah, I I
Dutchie: Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Devy: don't care how they do it, but a seven and ten would be amazing. but with seven and ten, like you said, if you're a seven win team, you can find your way very easily to win a couple of games that you're not supposed to win, and then you're nine and eight, and then you're in a playoff spot. So is my goal playoffs this year? No. I don't think that's not that it's not a realistic goal, I don't think that's a fair expectation. Obviously they're not listening to me. You know what I mean? But I still don't think it's a fair expectation to go, hey, you were picking second in the draft this past draft, now you're gonna be a playoff team. I think it's progress, and I think seven and ten is great progress. That's like that's exceeding expectations in my opinion. And then the following year, that should be your your playoff spot. a lot of things have to go their way, but you know, that's with every team. A lot of teams have to go everyone's way. Look at Seattle last night, San Bernardo got hurt. Look at New England. AJ Brown got hurt. Those are two huge things that don't go their way. And that happens to us a lot. So, you know, we just need a couple things to go our way. And I think that, you know, we'll be a lot better than people think. and if you win close games, you never know what's gonna happen. Just get just stay close
Rizzi: Mm-hmm.
Devy: in the games, don't get blown out, and you know, a lot can happen with that.
Rizzi: To me, I don't understand the people that don't want that wouldn't be okay with seven and ten. Like you were three and fourteen last year. Like how like don't you want the team to show progress? Don't you want a young quarterback, whether it's Cade or someone else, to come into this team that actually has some good pieces and a good foundation around them? Like throwing a young quarterback into a shitstorm is never a good thing. And seven and ten shows progress.
Dutchie: Wha what was the stat, Roz? What's the stat? It's like it's the first overall draft pick has won a Super Bowl like once or twice in the last twenty years and one
Rizzi: With the team that they
Dutchie: and one of them is Matt Stafford and it was and he was drafted by the Lions. Like it it's like i you just don't like these quarterbacks come out of nowhere, man. Like they
Rizzi: Mm-hmm.
Dutchie: really do. Like and like like Baker, he's on his third team. Like i Sam, we we had him. He's gone
Rizzi: Right.
Dutchie: now. I mean like it doesn't like Like you you don't necessarily have to do through the draft and a lot of these teams kind of aren't doing it through the draft. Like the Rams are not doing it through the draft at all. They're not doing it through the di they they don't even care about the draft. Like they literally don't care about it. So in in terms of like what we what for this season, I think Devin hit it nail in the head and we're gonna shock some people. I do think that we are going to win some games that we definitely should not win. We were always good for that. I also think we are going to lose a game or two that we 100% should win.
Devy: Yeah. Yep.
Dutchie: mainly looking at that Cardinals game, definitely the Dolphins. Like I just
Rizzi: Yeah.
Dutchie: like I I think I think there's gonna be one of those stinkers out there where it's like what what's going on? Raiders potentially anything. Like one of those. I think I'm just looking at one of those as a there's gonna be one of those spots and that'll be one of like that people be calling for heads and kinda like how they were for the Pats last night. I mean I I live in Boston around here fucking people are calling for Drake May's head at game one. I'm like, that's a little crazy anything Yeah.
Rizzi: Which is crazy. Yeah. And one thing I'll say too, if this team goes seven and ten, it proves that A G and Muji are doing what are doing their job, right? They're making the team better. It proves that everything they were saying about how we have to get our guys in here and we're doing all the right things, it proves that they're right about that. So I don't know. I have a hard time with people not accepting a seven ten season. And now seven and
Devy: Yeah.
Rizzi: ten could easily, you know, I don't know. I I think if you're seven and ten A good seven and ten then they wanna everyone stays. The regime the regime stays intact.
Devy: I think they 100% should unless there's a absolute insane reason why someone else wants to come in, unless they they stumble upon a dream opportunity, there's no reason why they should let any of those guys go.
Rizzi: Yeah.
Devy: I'm also like I'm like real quick, like with the coaching stuff, like I don't want to let anybody go from the coaching stuff unless it's like really bad. Like it like if they're okay and you know they step their toe a few times, they they trip around on their own feet a couple of times, like that's that's okay, it's gonna happen. But if they look to park to some butt. You might not win every game, but like, you know, I think the record can't be the only thing they look at when evaluating. Because it really depends
Dutchie: D we
Devy: on how it looks.
Dutchie: the feeling that I've had the past few years watching this team play, I mean minus I guess the twenty twenty two team was like pretty decent, but like it it's it's almost like we're playing a different sport than the whole rest of the league. Like it's crazy sometimes. And like that just just to yeah, like just to
Devy: Matt says that all the time. It it's so funny.
Dutchie: be just to be competitive, like and just to be like again, look the part. That is like that is all that matters. I would love to just look the part.
Rizzi: Really a sad, sad bunch.
Devy: It's just so different than another sport though. You know what I mean? Like it's
Dutchie: It's n yeah,
Rizzi: It is.
Dutchie: it's not a guarantee though we looked apart 'cause we're we're having a real tough time doing it the past like ten years. So it just
Rizzi: We are. Yeah.
Devy: Like a lot like I said, a lot needs to go your way. It doesn't matter. You can do everything right. And they did mostly everything right with Salah and Joe Douglas up until they didn't. And it still didn't go their way. You know what I mean? Like it one one fuck up screws everything up. That that that's it at the end of the day.
Rizzi: Yeah. Totally.
Dutchie: Mm-hmm. Like w what was it? The the Broncos were like back like when they were are horrendous with Russell Wilson. They were they were right there with us and they turned that thing around like two years with like Sean Payton, the right hire, find the right quarterback, Phoenix who's like again, I think he was drafted in the first round, but I mean like he wasn't a high mid
Devy: Mid first round about
Dutchie: first round, like there there's no reason like that it has to be like let's get, you know, Arch Manning at one overall. It doesn't need to be that way. It most of the time it doesn't work that way.
Devy: And that and that's what I've been yeah, and that's what I I you know, I was just about to bring up is like you look at the two top quarterbacks in the league, arguably, I mean just like for just like name recognition wise, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes. Where were they drafted?
Rizzi: Late first round. After the fifteenth well, I don't know when I don't know when Josh was at Yeah.
Dutchie: Yeah. Mahomes is in the second round, wasn't he?
Devy: Well, no, Josh Allen was like almost he they traded into the first round for him, but he was gonna be a second round pick.
Dutchie: Yeah. okay. Yeah.
Devy: but Josh Allen was like seventh, I think, maybe eleven, I don't know, but he was in that range.
Dutchie: Yeah, yeah.
Devy: yeah, at most was late. I Dak Pascal is another one. He was sort of middle.
Dutchie: He was after Sam. He was after Darnold. Right? Yeah, yeah. Imagine God.
Devy: And after Josh Rosen.
Rizzi: Who Josh? Yeah. And after Josh Roger. Yeah. That's right.
Devy: Yeah, he was the fourth quarterback taken. Fourth quarterback taken in that draft. You know, there's a there's a lot of a lot of quarterbacks in this league that weren't number one overall picks. And there's a lot of teams in this league that have made over one overall picks and they didn't work out. You know what I mean? So it's not a guarantee. It gives you the best chance, sure. But also a lot of times when it comes down to loading quarterback classes, like you look at that Baker class with Sam and Josh Allen and and whatnot, you look at that class. Baker wasn't the number one rank quarterback coming out of that draft. It was Sam Darnold. And Baker went number one. So teams, this is because they're number one, aren't going pick the number one rank quarterback. There's going to be a couple different quarterbacks there. They're going have their pick there. They're going to have whatever they need to do to get there. I'm confident that they will get their guy if they need to get their guy. Get their guy. The only way they will. Sorry, go ahead.
Rizzi: Yes. And I really No, I was just gonna say I really think the Colts are gonna be at le at the at
Dutchie: Horrendous.
Rizzi: the w at the at the best top ten pick. They they could be even worse than they could be top five. Like I just
Devy: Yeah.
Rizzi: don't see the Colts doing what they did last year.
Devy: If Daniel Jones goes goes down and down or Daniel Jones doesn't do what he did last year, they're not gonna be a good team. They're gonna be a bottom top team in league. A hundred percent.
Rizzi: Right. And they were already starting to turn even before that. Before you got hurt.
Devy: Yeah, he he they were starting to play pretty Yeah. You know, there there's a lot that has to go their way again. Also every single player, I mean, I don't think Daniel Jones was necessarily making that team better. I think the system just worked really well with him at quarterback compared to freaking Philip Rivers. But, you know, again, like you're asking a lot. The guy also is coming off twenty killies. So, you know, it's not like it's
Rizzi: Yeah. Right. Exactly.
Dutchie: It's gonna be a fun year. Like it's gonna be a fun year 'cause like either way we have
Rizzi: Aw, it's gonna be such a fun year.
Dutchie: we have so many things to root for on a Sunday. 'Cause we I g say the Jets are playing horrendous, we could still hate watch the Colts, hate watch the Packers, hate watch the Cowboys. Like it's just like I know.
Rizzi: Mm-hmm. I'll be hate watching the Giants.
Devy: I think the cowboys are going be nasty though. I think the cowboys are going to be
Dutchie: I know. Yeah, I think the Cowboys were really good. Ever everybody is saying
Devy: I think the cowboys are gonna really good.
Dutchie: they yeah, everybody loves the Cowboys.
Rizzi: I do yeah, I I like the Cowboys a lot this year.
Devy: I think they're gonna win that division like pretty handily. I think they're gonna be pretty nasty. I think their defense got so much better. I agree.
Rizzi: Yeah. I agree.
Dutchie: I hate the Packers. I hate Jordan Love. I can't stand Jordan Love.
Devy: I agree. But fellows
Dutchie: That'll be a fun one to hay watch.
Devy: week week one is here. you know,
Dutchie: Mm-hmm.
Devy: I'm I'm excited for Sunday. I'm excited to get back after it. you know, it's it's I like I said, let's shock the world. Like I said before, let's let's shock the world, let's let's make some noise, let's let's do what people don't expect us to do. And let's go into that home opener week two, hoping that I go, depending on if, you know, baby Snaph is gonna be
Rizzi: Yeah.
Devy: almost on his way out. We'll we'll see how that goes that week with the doctor. But, you know, let's let's start off the season right with one week at a time, let's win the game and then we'll move on to the next one there. but fellas, al always a pleasure.
Rizzi: Yep. We'll see you we'll see you boys for the the reaction pod Sunday afternoon. It's gonna be, it's gonna be.
Dutchie: Yeah, that was fun, boys. huh. Yeah. Yeah.
Devy: It's gonna be a positive one, let's hope. Alrighty guys. Later.
Dutchie: All
Rizzi: See ya boys. Love you.
Dutchie: right.
