things in education. And
employment, mental health,
6
00:00:59,856 --> 00:01:03,237
physical health. We've done
episodes about homeschooling,
7
00:01:03,418 --> 00:01:07,970
artificial intelligence. What
else? Self-care.
8
00:01:08,585 --> 00:01:12,498

mushy, gushy stuff. But all with
9
00:01:12,729 --> 00:01:20,208

people reverse. Chronic disease.
And achieve optimal health and
25
00:02:32,297 --> 00:02:37,408
wellness. Beautiful So he was on
my show before. For study
26
00:02:37,469 --> 00:02:41,702
abroad. I believe a study abroad
part. So make sure you check
27
00:02:41,802 --> 00:02:46,813
out. That episode. Learn a
little bit more about samir But

now he is back on the show. So
let me. Go ahead and bring him.
29
00:02:51,725 --> 00:02:56,354
To the stage. Hi, Sameer. How
are you doing?
30
00:02:56,804 --> 00:02:58,079
SAMEER DOSSANI: You're doing
well, Gabrielle, and yourself.
31
00:02:59,116 --> 00:03:02,839
GENERIC: Good good thank you for
coming back on and coming back
32
00:03:02,859 --> 00:03:07,451
to the hot seat so today we're
going to talk about an
33
00:03:07,531 --> 00:03:11,123
interesting topic. I'm curious
to see. Where we're going to go
34
00:03:11,184 --> 00:03:15,210
with this. So let me just repeat
it again embarking on an
35
00:03:15,351 --> 00:03:21,985
animal-based diet a journey of
healing from veganism so What?
36
00:03:22,129 --> 00:03:25,183
In the world is that please Tell
us about that.
37
00:03:27,316 --> 00:03:29,441
SAMEER DOSSANI: Yeah, well,
Pfft. I don't know where to
38
00:03:29,461 --> 00:03:32,167
start, Gabrielle. So in the last
discussion, we talked about my
39
00:03:32,207 --> 00:03:36,064
sort of... Journey from
Washington DC to Canada, I was
40
00:03:36,044 --> 00:03:38,952
in Montreal, then I was in
Australia. Them India, the
41
00:03:38,973 --> 00:03:41,572
Philippines, I've traveled
around the world. Currently in
42
00:03:41,593 --> 00:03:45,990
South Africa. But at some early
point of this journey. So
43
00:03:46,051 --> 00:03:49,755
actually the first stop. At
McGill. In Montreal.
44
00:03:51,043 --> 00:03:54,236
I, As I mentioned, I got
attracted to a certain kind of
45
00:03:54,256 --> 00:03:59,857
leftist. Politics. And one.
Aspect of that. It was. Was the
46
00:03:59,897 --> 00:04:02,382
politics and the music so i was
i was also a punk rocker i was
47
00:04:02,382 --> 00:04:06,451
also a musician So the music
scene and the political scene
48
00:04:06,451 --> 00:04:09,563
that I was part of. There were,
I would say most people were at
49
00:04:09,583 --> 00:04:10,991
least vegetarian, if not vegan.
50
00:04:12,393 --> 00:04:14,549
And so it was kind of like it
was kind of like the cool thing
51
00:04:14,549 --> 00:04:14,750
to do.
52
00:04:16,321 --> 00:04:19,879
But it was also something that I
thought of. I was. Interested in
53
00:04:19,900 --> 00:04:22,744
health, I was interested in
wellness. I was volunteering.
54
00:04:23,736 --> 00:04:26,866
For a sort of naturopathic. You
know, businesses and so on. I
55
00:04:26,845 --> 00:04:28,499
was working sometimes on a
health food store.
56
00:04:30,505 --> 00:04:32,919
You know i thought i was doing i
thought i was being super
57
00:04:32,959 --> 00:04:34,665
healthy by by being vegan.
58
00:04:35,876 --> 00:04:40,391
But Eventually what happened
was, and I, and at least, well
59
00:04:40,793 --> 00:04:43,569
The first thing that happened
was I got a job in the real
60
00:04:43,629 --> 00:04:46,565
world. And the job was doing
exactly what I wanted to do.
61
00:04:47,732 --> 00:04:49,616
One reason that I went vegan was
really, as I mentioned, the
62
00:04:49,636 --> 00:04:52,145
politics of the whole thing. I
thought I was... I thought
63
00:04:52,185 --> 00:04:54,047
there's one argument around
vegetarianism that you're
64
00:04:54,047 --> 00:04:56,752
actually conserving food, right?
You're not causing food waste.
65
00:04:57,144 --> 00:04:59,501
The cows eat so much food and
you could just eat the food that
66
00:04:59,501 --> 00:05:03,690
the cows eat this is the the the
wrong what I used to believe
67
00:05:03,690 --> 00:05:06,767
that I don't think is wrong. So
I got a job that was actually
68
00:05:06,868 --> 00:05:10,628
helping. Poor communities and
farmers across the world. And I
69
00:05:10,628 --> 00:05:12,921
would meet up with farming
communities. And I tell them,
70
00:05:12,962 --> 00:05:13,145
hey.
71
00:05:13,570 --> 00:05:15,560
Vegan and it's not cool and they
were like what the hell are you
72
00:05:15,560 --> 00:05:19,996
talking about and no that's not
cool right and sort of starting
73
00:05:19,996 --> 00:05:25,608
to explain to me. The basics of
how life works, how ecosystems
74
00:05:25,669 --> 00:05:30,019
work. And how you know, You're
not really saving anyone's life
75
00:05:30,019 --> 00:05:32,584
by even eating tofu. If you want
to eat tofu, that's your
76
00:05:32,604 --> 00:05:33,489
business, but... Done.
77
00:05:33,613 --> 00:05:35,974
Don't go around telling people
that you're doing. Some noble
78
00:05:35,974 --> 00:05:39,992
act. You Right. So that was the
first step. And then, but then I
79
00:05:40,032 --> 00:05:44,957
was, I. I maintain some level of
vegetarianism. Right up until my
80
00:05:45,399 --> 00:05:48,619
30s. And then i started getting
sick and my family got started
81
00:05:48,619 --> 00:05:51,896
getting sick so I decided it's
time to change all that too.
82
00:05:53,455 --> 00:05:56,919
Okay. Introduced meat. I
introduce meat into our diet.
83
00:05:57,293 --> 00:05:59,603
It's been about 10 years ago
now, so I'd have been in my very
84
00:05:59,663 --> 00:06:02,747
late. 30s when we first
introduced fish. I can still
85
00:06:02,787 --> 00:06:06,304
remember the first fish meal. I
ate. Which is probably not the
86
00:06:06,324 --> 00:06:08,212
healthiest meal in the whole
world. It was a fish curry
87
00:06:08,272 --> 00:06:11,744
with... Thank rice But I
remember my body was so...
88
00:06:12,806 --> 00:06:18,342
Sated so satiated after that
meal that's yeah that i i
89
00:06:18,383 --> 00:06:23,201
couldn't like it took me like an
hour or two just sort of recover
90
00:06:23,406 --> 00:06:25,941
Like, like... I didn't know how
to explain. My body was actually
91
00:06:25,941 --> 00:06:28,385
getting nourishment for the
first time. In many, many years.
92
00:06:28,385 --> 00:06:31,127
Thanks for And since that time,
when I actually registered to
93
00:06:31,127 --> 00:06:33,221
become a health and nutrition
coach, I've come to understand
94
00:06:33,262 --> 00:06:37,188
that actually vegetables and
plant foods in general.
95
00:06:38,510 --> 00:06:42,685
Contain They contain
anti-nutrients. Plants don't
96
00:06:42,685 --> 00:06:43,208
want to be eaten.
97
00:06:44,686 --> 00:06:48,021
And so they contain. Chemicals
which make it harder for animals
98
00:06:48,021 --> 00:06:52,173
to digest them. And when we see
herbivores in nature, so... Here
99
00:06:52,193 --> 00:06:53,988
in Africa, we have giraffes, for
example.
100
00:06:55,132 --> 00:06:57,645
Giraffes have an interesting
relationship with acacia trees
101
00:06:57,686 --> 00:07:00,900
because they'll They pray on
acacia trees. But the acacia
102
00:07:00,940 --> 00:07:04,955
trees will warn. So if. A
giraffe is eating one tree. That
103
00:07:04,975 --> 00:07:08,302
tree releases a scent. Not only
does the tree itself make
104
00:07:08,302 --> 00:07:10,975
itself. Bitter So it tries to
release toxins so that the
105
00:07:10,995 --> 00:07:11,800
giraffe won't eat it.
106
00:07:12,185 --> 00:07:14,907
But it releases a scent so that
the other neighboring trees
107
00:07:15,279 --> 00:07:19,370
downwind especially. To pick up
the scent. Will release more and
108
00:07:19,370 --> 00:07:21,558
more toxins. Thanks so that
you're also not be able to prey
109
00:07:21,558 --> 00:07:24,239
on them. That's one example, but
you can look at how bunny
110
00:07:24,300 --> 00:07:26,524
rabbits eat. I mean, if
anyone's... Had a garden that's
111
00:07:26,544 --> 00:07:27,815
been destroyed by bunny rabbits.
112
00:07:28,389 --> 00:07:30,305
The garden, you know, it's not
like the bunny rabbits eat a
113
00:07:30,325 --> 00:07:33,362
tomato. The rabbits eat a bite
of a tomato and then another
114
00:07:33,383 --> 00:07:35,572
bite of a tomato. Why are they
doing that? Again, because.
115
00:07:36,237 --> 00:07:39,187
That's how they have to eat in
order to avoid the toxin. They
116
00:07:39,187 --> 00:07:41,693
can't eat a whole tomato. They
can't eat a whole plant because
117
00:07:42,198 --> 00:07:43,848
Да. Gets more toxic as they eat
it.
118
00:07:45,806 --> 00:07:48,630
This is the basics of. Of what
I've come to learn about. Plant
119
00:07:48,650 --> 00:07:51,977
biology, and I've come to also
learn that humans as an
120
00:07:51,997 --> 00:07:54,449
anthropologist my phd is in
anthropology i'm about to
121
00:07:54,449 --> 00:07:58,384
finished with that As an
anthropologist, I've come to
122
00:07:58,424 --> 00:08:04,140
understand that humans evolved
to be predators to Yes, to be
123
00:08:04,240 --> 00:08:06,115
omnivores, but to be omnivores
that prefer...
124
00:08:07,584 --> 00:08:11,285
So E... You know, And I think
there's a lot to be learned from
125
00:08:11,345 --> 00:08:14,280
sort of ancestral diets.
Meat-based Diets. And that's
126
00:08:14,280 --> 00:08:18,175
how. I prefer so so you know my
approach as a health coach is
127
00:08:18,175 --> 00:08:21,709
very client-led So if a client
wants to take a vegetarian or
128
00:08:21,750 --> 00:08:25,155
vegetable based or a plant based
approach, Certainly they will do
129
00:08:25,195 --> 00:08:27,264
that. I will allow. Vote.
There's space for them to do
130
00:08:27,325 --> 00:08:27,487
that.
131
00:08:28,089 --> 00:08:31,000
But if a client comes to me and
says, What do you recommend to
132
00:08:32,040 --> 00:08:34,836
reverse autoimmune disease? What
do you recommend? To reverse
133
00:08:34,856 --> 00:08:37,652
diabetes, what do you recommend?
To balance my hormones, what do
134
00:08:37,652 --> 00:08:40,370
you recommend? As a diet so that
I could start getting my period
135
00:08:40,390 --> 00:08:43,231
back. The answer is going to be.
You know, we're going to
136
00:08:43,231 --> 00:08:45,903
introduce a lot of animal foods.
And we're going to. Find healing
137
00:08:45,903 --> 00:08:46,149
that way.
138
00:08:47,433 --> 00:08:49,743
So, So, yeah, that's the story.
139
00:08:51,165 --> 00:08:53,675
GENERIC: Thank And thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing.
140
00:08:54,430 --> 00:08:59,088
So it's very interesting to me
as I'm listening to you because.
141
00:08:59,927 --> 00:09:01,166
My thinking is like...
142
00:09:02,346 --> 00:09:03,953
I learned the opposite.
143
00:09:04,576 --> 00:09:05,500
SAMEER DOSSANI: All of us
learned the opposite.
144
00:09:06,317 --> 00:09:10,062
GENERIC: You know, if you want
to. Thank Bye. You know reverse
145
00:09:10,082 --> 00:09:13,968
disease and you want to you know
your periods to come back and
146
00:09:13,988 --> 00:09:17,751
you you know you It's the answer
is less meat.
147
00:09:18,941 --> 00:09:23,556
And introduce more plants into
your diet So it's interesting.
148
00:09:24,125 --> 00:09:28,062
You to hear you say that. So I
learned the opposite. Of what
149
00:09:28,083 --> 00:09:28,610
you're saying.
150
00:09:28,875 --> 00:09:30,800
SAMEER DOSSANI: Thank you We all
are in the opposite, Gabrielle.
151
00:09:30,981 --> 00:09:35,169
So this is one reason I got so
angry. So, um... What happened
152
00:09:35,169 --> 00:09:38,264
to me in... 2017, a number of
things happened that year.
153
00:09:39,691 --> 00:09:42,055
I first started, so I'm now in a
different university, but I
154
00:09:42,075 --> 00:09:43,999
first got admission to a
different university to start my
155
00:09:44,019 --> 00:09:47,046
PhD that year. But instead of
going to the library where I was
156
00:09:47,046 --> 00:09:49,091
meant to go to, the social
sciences library, I went to the
157
00:09:49,091 --> 00:09:52,042
medical library. Good Why?
Because I myself was having a
158
00:09:52,062 --> 00:09:52,524
hard time.
159
00:09:52,751 --> 00:09:55,255
Had I was developing
pre-diabetes and and maybe
160
00:09:55,276 --> 00:09:58,217
eventually it would have been
diabetes. My daughter wasn't
161
00:09:58,217 --> 00:10:00,541
particularly healthy. She had
all kinds of... Terrible
162
00:10:00,623 --> 00:10:05,320
allergies and asthma and eczema
and stuff. My wife was suffering
163
00:10:05,360 --> 00:10:08,087
with thyroid issues and
different autoimmune problems.
164
00:10:08,780 --> 00:10:11,285
She was also on the way to
developing diabetes. She'd had
165
00:10:11,305 --> 00:10:14,191
gestational diabetes when we and
the pregnancy.
166
00:10:15,040 --> 00:10:18,205
So instead of going to the
social sciences library, I went
167
00:10:18,245 --> 00:10:20,488
straight to the medical library
and I read everything. And by
168
00:10:20,488 --> 00:10:22,271
the way, the other thing is that
my best friend had a cancer
169
00:10:22,291 --> 00:10:25,960
diagnosis. He since passed from
that diagnosis. So I went, I
170
00:10:25,980 --> 00:10:29,665
read everything I could. But
cancer, autoimmune, diabetes, et
171
00:10:29,665 --> 00:10:29,887
cetera.
172
00:10:30,893 --> 00:10:34,298
Within a day I was just so
angry. Gabrielle, I can't tell
173
00:10:34,298 --> 00:10:36,492
you how angry I was at anyone
who had told me anything about
174
00:10:36,512 --> 00:10:39,111
nutrition. Or anything who told
me anything about health because
175
00:10:39,111 --> 00:10:41,676
they were all completely wrong.
And it was in the evidence.
176
00:10:42,217 --> 00:10:45,093
There was no denying. People
have been reversing diabetes
177
00:10:45,113 --> 00:10:47,266
with a meat-based diet since 300
BC.
178
00:10:48,476 --> 00:10:52,626
Right There's no denying that.
Like, that is what was
179
00:10:52,706 --> 00:10:56,268
recommended. Bye. Indian
doctors, the first place where
180
00:10:56,510 --> 00:11:01,121
diabetes was. Was discovered was
by in ancient Indian kingdom
181
00:11:01,182 --> 00:11:06,773
about 2,300 years ago. Yeah. And
that Person said, if you want to
182
00:11:06,773 --> 00:11:09,650
get diabetes, you eat a lot
of... Rice. You know because
183
00:11:09,650 --> 00:11:12,469
that was the staple food in
India. And he said, we see.
184
00:11:12,712 --> 00:11:15,459
You know, people who are Eating
too much rice, you get this.
185
00:11:15,973 --> 00:11:17,824
They didn't call it diabetes.
They called it something like
186
00:11:17,865 --> 00:11:21,256
sugar sickness in the local
language. And the way we reverse
187
00:11:21,256 --> 00:11:24,243
it is we put them on. We just
give them a meeting. I don't
188
00:11:24,323 --> 00:11:26,784
think he was using an all-meat
diet, but... You increase the
189
00:11:26,824 --> 00:11:28,612
amount of meat in the diet and
you will reverse the diabetes.
190
00:11:28,632 --> 00:11:28,924
Thanks.
191
00:11:30,191 --> 00:11:32,370
So that's been known for more
than 2,000 years.
192
00:11:33,719 --> 00:11:36,955
And we still And of course,
diabetes, you know, in order to
193
00:11:36,955 --> 00:11:39,093
understand this, we have to
understand that. There is
194
00:11:39,114 --> 00:11:42,215
something called metabolic
syndrome. In the united states
195
00:11:42,295 --> 00:11:46,292
in any in every western country
which is a hallmark of disease.
196
00:11:46,292 --> 00:11:49,707
It's not a disease in itself.
But it's... Underpins the main
197
00:11:49,989 --> 00:11:54,054
killers accidents aside so if
you're young you know dying in a
198
00:11:54,074 --> 00:11:56,126
car accident is probably the
main accident you have to worry
199
00:11:56,167 --> 00:11:58,433
about. I think that's number
three or number four. Killer.
200
00:11:59,636 --> 00:12:02,069
But aside from that, We talk
about the four horsemen of the
201
00:12:02,089 --> 00:12:06,879
apocalypse. Heart disease
cancer. Alzheimer's and other
202
00:12:06,979 --> 00:12:09,132
dementia. And the fourth is
metabolic syndrome itself.
203
00:12:09,465 --> 00:12:13,749
Metabolic syndrome. Underpins
the other three. So and. How do
204
00:12:13,729 --> 00:12:16,541
we define metabolic syndrome?
It's defined clinically. As a
205
00:12:16,562 --> 00:12:21,001
certain waist to height ratio.
So if you have... Abdominal fat
206
00:12:21,062 --> 00:12:23,310
fat around the abdomen abdomen,
that's a risk factor.
207
00:12:24,227 --> 00:12:27,091
There's certain markers to do
with blood sugar and so on. But
208
00:12:27,152 --> 00:12:30,547
for me, when I did my research,
These are all Thank you They're
209
00:12:30,547 --> 00:12:32,880
not very accurate markers
sometimes. We'll The main thing
210
00:12:32,901 --> 00:12:36,306
that we can measure is rising
insulin level. Thank you Insulin
211
00:12:36,306 --> 00:12:38,742
is the hormone that we need to
process sugar. It's a very easy
212
00:12:38,783 --> 00:12:41,470
way to think about it. If you
have a high sugar or high
213
00:12:41,470 --> 00:12:43,056
carbohydrate, if you have a
vegetarian meal.
214
00:12:43,430 --> 00:12:46,471
Your instant goes. Very high.
Now, it's possible if you're
215
00:12:46,491 --> 00:12:49,560
young, like I was in my 20s.
That you can get away with that.
216
00:12:49,681 --> 00:12:52,259
Without much problems although I
did have problems Thanks.
217
00:12:52,461 --> 00:12:55,507
Looking back at it now, I was
never healthy. From the time I
218
00:12:55,487 --> 00:12:59,917
was 16, 17, I was extremely
unhealthy. And when I got vegan,
219
00:12:59,917 --> 00:13:03,021
it was actually worse. But I
wasn't dying, I was getting
220
00:13:03,062 --> 00:13:03,384
through it.
221
00:13:03,384 --> 00:13:06,502
Right and i thought the things
that were happening to me like
222
00:13:06,502 --> 00:13:09,488
they the gas, the sort of
bloating. I thought that was
223
00:13:09,488 --> 00:13:11,902
just what happened. It's the
poor digestion. I just thought,
224
00:13:11,902 --> 00:13:15,410
you know, that's... That's what.
Eating his leg. Okay. You know,
225
00:13:15,470 --> 00:13:18,974
I didn't think that. Not having
gas and not having floating. Was
226
00:13:19,035 --> 00:13:21,598
possible. And now i've been
Don't get any gas and don't
227
00:13:21,598 --> 00:13:23,704
float at all. So I didn't know
how to eat from my body.
228
00:13:24,950 --> 00:13:26,736
And once I learned that I
realized that I had been
229
00:13:26,756 --> 00:13:28,979
unhealthy for basically my whole
life.
230
00:13:30,620 --> 00:13:33,918
Which is a shame. But the point
being that, you know... Science.
231
00:13:34,938 --> 00:13:36,995
Shows pretty clearly that
there's no evidence that
232
00:13:37,055 --> 00:13:41,511
vegetables are healthy. Going
back. Thousands of years. And if
233
00:13:41,531 --> 00:13:44,203
we want to heal. Of course,
that's not to say that all
234
00:13:44,224 --> 00:13:46,429
plants are unhealthy all the
time. There are certain
235
00:13:46,469 --> 00:13:48,626
chemicals within plants that
have healing properties.
236
00:13:49,232 --> 00:13:52,145
So I think this is where we get
confused. So when we look at
237
00:13:52,165 --> 00:13:55,011
folk medicine here in Africa, or
we look at folk medicine in
238
00:13:55,031 --> 00:13:58,055
Europe, a lot of that is
plant-based in the sense that
239
00:13:58,075 --> 00:14:00,757
they will make a tea they will
take For example, there's
240
00:14:00,798 --> 00:14:04,154
something called Pau Darko. In
South America. Right. Thank
241
00:14:04,236 --> 00:14:09,248
Strong antibiotic. Tea If you
ate... Just Pau d'Arco, if you
242
00:14:09,309 --> 00:14:09,936
eat just the bark.
243
00:14:10,018 --> 00:14:13,832
You die. It's poisonous. But if
you make a tea out of it, if you
244
00:14:13,993 --> 00:14:17,468
ferment that, bark for a certain
period of time. And you make a
245
00:14:17,489 --> 00:14:20,706
tea out of it. That's a very
strong antibiotic, which is
246
00:14:20,766 --> 00:14:22,955
useful. If you need an
antibiotic. If you have an
247
00:14:22,955 --> 00:14:25,809
infection, that can be super
useful. It can also be useful in
248
00:14:25,809 --> 00:14:26,000
fighting fungal infection.
249
00:14:27,256 --> 00:14:29,977
Thanks But if you're taking that
every day, you're giving
250
00:14:29,997 --> 00:14:33,614
yourself powerful doses of
antibiotics for no reason. Just
251
00:14:33,634 --> 00:14:35,988
like if you eat broccoli every
day or cabbage every day, you're
252
00:14:36,008 --> 00:14:40,627
giving yourself. Pie doses. Of
goitrogenic foods. Of foods that
253
00:14:40,647 --> 00:14:43,510
attack the thyroid. Question.
For no purpose. There's no
254
00:14:43,571 --> 00:14:45,424
reason you're doing that. If
there's some medical reason,
255
00:14:45,565 --> 00:14:45,787
okay.
256
00:14:46,457 --> 00:14:49,465
Maybe you need to do that for a
certain period of time. But Now
257
00:14:49,505 --> 00:14:52,657
we see when someone dies in an
accident, God forbid, we do an
258
00:14:52,677 --> 00:14:56,716
autopsy. We see almost all
people in the US. I'd like.
259
00:14:57,133 --> 00:14:59,647
Little pieces of goitrogenic
stuff stuck in their thyroid.
260
00:15:00,396 --> 00:15:03,515
The broccoli is attacking the
thyroid. Right from the ages of
261
00:15:03,515 --> 00:15:06,149
like 16, 17. Like we've seen
this in autopsies of very young
262
00:15:06,189 --> 00:15:06,491
people.
263
00:15:07,980 --> 00:15:11,317
So there's a book out called
Toxic Superfoods by someone
264
00:15:11,317 --> 00:15:14,392
called Sally Norton. Very
interesting lady interesting
265
00:15:14,432 --> 00:15:18,399
researcher she's done a lot of
work on this And she focuses on
266
00:15:18,379 --> 00:15:21,897
a class of antinutrient called
oxalate. Thanks and the oxalates
267
00:15:22,671 --> 00:15:25,202
are found in mostly in spinach.
If you eat raw spinach, you're
268
00:15:25,202 --> 00:15:28,733
getting a huge dose of oxalates
And they're the leading cause of
269
00:15:28,733 --> 00:15:29,235
kidney stones.
270
00:15:29,896 --> 00:15:32,348
In addition to many other
things. Scene of it This. Many
271
00:15:32,885 --> 00:15:35,049
gum disease like They're
associated with all kinds of
272
00:15:35,069 --> 00:15:38,350
awful things. Thanks And, you
know, Stupid me was having
273
00:15:38,410 --> 00:15:42,579
spinach juice and spinach
smoothies all the time and i had
274
00:15:42,599 --> 00:15:44,886
to it took me a while to get
that stuff out of my system but
275
00:15:44,906 --> 00:15:47,856
i think I think I'm more or less
succeeded. 10 years after I
276
00:15:47,876 --> 00:15:48,742
stopped eating that stuff.
277
00:15:49,139 --> 00:15:51,326
I think maybe it's out of my
system, but I'm not completely
278
00:15:51,406 --> 00:15:54,810
sure. Because it's hard to
measure these things. So we have
279
00:15:54,810 --> 00:15:58,525
to be aware that when we're
Ирина. Any plant food. With the
280
00:15:58,525 --> 00:16:01,915
exception of some fruits, I
would say. But any plant food
281
00:16:01,975 --> 00:16:04,149
has some level of
anti-nutrients. The fruits are
282
00:16:04,149 --> 00:16:07,516
an interesting conversation
because. Of course, the fruit is
283
00:16:07,496 --> 00:16:09,343
the part of the plant that
co-evolved.
284
00:16:09,748 --> 00:16:13,353
With the animal. So that the
animal would take the the seed.
285
00:16:13,595 --> 00:16:15,641
The plant and go and put it
somewhere else right so the
286
00:16:15,661 --> 00:16:19,545
plant sort of wants you to take
the fruit But the problem is. We
287
00:16:19,565 --> 00:16:21,701
have bread fruits, you know, the
fruits that we have today,
288
00:16:21,761 --> 00:16:25,213
bananas. Mangoes and so on.
These things did not exist in
289
00:16:25,233 --> 00:16:28,597
nature. And they are such sugar
bombs. I mean, bananas in
290
00:16:28,597 --> 00:16:30,243
particular is such a sugar bomb.
291
00:16:31,375 --> 00:16:33,586
That it's going to spike that
insulin again and cause your
292
00:16:33,767 --> 00:16:36,433
hyperinsulinemia and all kinds
of problems. Now, there's some
293
00:16:36,453 --> 00:16:39,565
people on the internet who say,
Look, if you do this without...
294
00:16:39,749 --> 00:16:40,362
Any fats.
295
00:16:41,903 --> 00:16:44,277
It can be okay. And I think
there's a point there. So the
296
00:16:44,297 --> 00:16:45,847
point is a little bit
complicated. I don't know if you
297
00:16:45,826 --> 00:16:48,438
want to get to the... The kind
of technical questions around
298
00:16:49,213 --> 00:16:52,099
all plant versus all meat diets.
But we can if you like.
299
00:16:54,258 --> 00:16:58,709
GENERIC: Well let's Maybe for
another show, but I would say...
300
00:16:59,636 --> 00:17:01,271
So I'm wondering is.
301
00:17:02,700 --> 00:17:03,163
Your...
302
00:17:04,721 --> 00:17:08,995
Issue with it. Is it Is it the
diet itself? Like, are you
303
00:17:09,275 --> 00:17:14,212
against vegetables? Or is it
just like... The diet itself
304
00:17:15,019 --> 00:17:16,643
Well, there's two different
things because you talked about
305
00:17:16,663 --> 00:17:19,029
being a vegetarian and being
vegan. So those are two
306
00:17:19,049 --> 00:17:19,651
different things.
307
00:17:21,195 --> 00:17:22,943
So is your issue with.
308
00:17:24,688 --> 00:17:28,622
Well i i don't know your issue
but the problem is it with
309
00:17:30,653 --> 00:17:34,127
The... The diet itself and how
it's structured and that it's
310
00:17:35,923 --> 00:17:39,218
you know, I mean, particularly
veganism, you're eliminating.
311
00:17:39,996 --> 00:17:45,029
All animal products right so as
opposed to vegetarianism Maybe.
312
00:17:46,279 --> 00:17:52,840
Eat fish So is it the diet
itself or is it like... You have
313
00:17:52,840 --> 00:17:54,317
a little You don't like that?
314
00:17:56,328 --> 00:17:58,194
SAMEER DOSSANI: So liking
vegetables is a slightly
315
00:17:58,235 --> 00:18:01,484
different issue because I'm a
professional, right? I have a
316
00:18:01,935 --> 00:18:04,947
Thank my likes and dislikes
don't necessarily come into it
317
00:18:04,990 --> 00:18:08,720
Right. So I think we have to
distinguish between. A number of
318
00:18:08,741 --> 00:18:11,742
things. So on the one hand, so
the far end of the spectrum is
319
00:18:11,762 --> 00:18:12,343
vegan diets.
320
00:18:12,424 --> 00:18:16,000
So as you mentioned, vegan diets
will not include so veganism as
321
00:18:16,000 --> 00:18:19,918
a philosophy is is based on all
kinds of things is based around
322
00:18:20,038 --> 00:18:23,089
ethics number one And I think
that Ethics is wrong. But we
323
00:18:23,109 --> 00:18:25,389
don't have to get into that in
this discussion. Sick into hell
324
00:18:26,025 --> 00:18:29,218
vegan diets Don't include any
animal products. That's no eggs.
325
00:18:29,420 --> 00:18:33,155
No meat. No meats. Certainly no
dairy, no fish, no nothing. Then
326
00:18:33,155 --> 00:18:34,138
there are vegetarian diets.
327
00:18:34,138 --> 00:18:36,865
So most vegetarians classify
themselves as lacto-ovo
328
00:18:36,985 --> 00:18:40,716
vegetarians. Meaning that they
will eat milk and eggs. Our
329
00:18:40,756 --> 00:18:43,354
dairy products and eggs, but
they won't take any. Anything
330
00:18:43,374 --> 00:18:45,896
that has a face is how I used to
say it when I was vegetarian. So
331
00:18:45,896 --> 00:18:48,640
I wouldn't take a fish, shrimp.
That kind of stuff I wouldn't
332
00:18:48,640 --> 00:18:53,466
have. Then there's pescetarian.
So pescetarians do eat as a rule
333
00:18:53,506 --> 00:18:54,210
dairy products.
334
00:18:55,524 --> 00:18:59,091
Eggs and Fish and sometimes, you
know. People like certain fish
335
00:18:59,091 --> 00:19:01,490
and they don't like certain fish
so some people will have For
336
00:19:01,490 --> 00:19:04,336
example, I know some Even some
people who claim to be vegans
337
00:19:04,376 --> 00:19:07,697
who might eat the occasional
oyster. Because oysters don't
338
00:19:07,697 --> 00:19:09,462
have brains and central nervous
systems and so on.
339
00:19:09,843 --> 00:19:13,046
There's a lot of you know, gray
area around here, but as a rule,
340
00:19:13,086 --> 00:19:15,833
vegans don't eat oysters. Thank
but pescatarians will. All
341
00:19:15,833 --> 00:19:19,015
right. Then they sort of your
standard omnivore, what we call
342
00:19:19,035 --> 00:19:22,886
a SAD diet, standard American
diet. Right And it's sad for a
343
00:19:22,927 --> 00:19:25,016
reason. It's a terrible diet.
But what I just want to point
344
00:19:25,036 --> 00:19:27,166
out about the sad diet is that
it is plant-based.
345
00:19:27,944 --> 00:19:29,958
In other words, most of the
calories that most people are
346
00:19:29,958 --> 00:19:33,548
getting are from plants. So, you
know, if you have. Think about
347
00:19:33,548 --> 00:19:36,856
the standard of American meals,
like a burger and fries. That
348
00:19:36,916 --> 00:19:39,209
bread, the lettuce, the
tomatoes, the fries, that's
349
00:19:39,250 --> 00:19:40,738
where most of your calories are
coming from.
350
00:19:42,403 --> 00:19:45,576
And then there's the kind of
diets that I... Tend to use both
351
00:19:45,576 --> 00:19:50,330
for therapeutic purposes and
also for. Well i used The diet
352
00:19:50,350 --> 00:19:52,336
that I tend to use for
therapeutic purposes are all
353
00:19:52,397 --> 00:19:56,136
low-carb diets. Let me put it
that way. So. Within the
354
00:19:56,176 --> 00:19:59,371
spectrum of low carb, we have a
basic low carb which is
355
00:19:59,411 --> 00:20:02,742
basically like you take the
standard diet but you shift the
356
00:20:02,762 --> 00:20:06,811
ratios. Okay. So I'm going to.
If you want to keep...
357
00:20:06,952 --> 00:20:09,672
For example, potatoes on your
plate. That's fine. We're going
358
00:20:09,672 --> 00:20:12,759
to limit the potatoes to no more
than a. Курорт. Plate. Quarter
359
00:20:12,759 --> 00:20:14,919
of the plate is going to be
protein. Animal based protein.
360
00:20:15,244 --> 00:20:18,135
Ideally. And half the plate is
going to be non-starchy cooked.
361
00:20:18,278 --> 00:20:21,411
Vegetables. So the difference
that I make in my program. So I
362
00:20:21,431 --> 00:20:24,195
try and avoid the salads
because. Raw vegetables have too
363
00:20:24,195 --> 00:20:26,854
many anti-nutrients. You
Especially. The darker screens.
364
00:20:27,000 --> 00:20:29,145
So if you're going to have a
green. I want it cooked. If
365
00:20:29,145 --> 00:20:30,897
you're going to have a salad
like iceberg lettuce could be
366
00:20:30,917 --> 00:20:34,431
okay. But I try and avoid that.
So that's one therapeutic diet
367
00:20:34,431 --> 00:20:37,605
that I use. Another therapeutic
diet that I use is a ketogenic
368
00:20:37,645 --> 00:20:40,865
diet. So in a ketogenic diet,
the idea is to actually get the
369
00:20:40,885 --> 00:20:44,754
body into ketosis. Ketosis is a
state of fat burning. That we
370
00:20:44,774 --> 00:20:48,268
can go into. We're all born in
ketosis. We're all born.
371
00:20:51,029 --> 00:20:54,880
You know, being able to process
that. Just a word on ketosis.
372
00:20:56,372 --> 00:20:58,740
There are two, in general, there
are two fuel sources we think of
373
00:20:58,720 --> 00:21:00,386
in the body. One is
carbohydrates, so that's just
374
00:21:00,426 --> 00:21:03,823
pure sugar. Glucose. And too
much of that will kill you. We
375
00:21:03,802 --> 00:21:05,946
have to be very clear here.
Glucose is a toxin in the body.
376
00:21:06,088 --> 00:21:08,640
Right. If you have A five pound
bag of sugar, you will die.
377
00:21:08,722 --> 00:21:12,676
Right. So one is glucose, and by
the way, the glucose, five
378
00:21:12,676 --> 00:21:14,864
pounds is the limit. Many of us
who are not metabolically
379
00:21:14,904 --> 00:21:15,908
healthy will die before that.
380
00:21:17,556 --> 00:21:21,735
So the glucose is there fat and
fat is the other fuel so we all
381
00:21:21,775 --> 00:21:26,162
have about 100,000 calories of
fat on our body. And there's
382
00:21:26,162 --> 00:21:29,279
certain organs that can digest
the fat straight. Right so the
383
00:21:29,548 --> 00:21:32,614
The liver, for example, can
just. Take the fight. If it
384
00:21:32,634 --> 00:21:36,077
wants to. Right, and burn on and
use that for fuel. Thank But
385
00:21:36,097 --> 00:21:38,754
there are other organs,
particularly the... The brain.
386
00:21:39,529 --> 00:21:41,991
That needs the fat to be broken
up into something smaller.
387
00:21:42,813 --> 00:21:45,109
And that's something smaller is
called a ketone body. So the
388
00:21:45,149 --> 00:21:47,578
several ketone bodies, the main
one is beta hydroxybutyrate.
389
00:21:47,618 --> 00:21:51,012
Again, we don't have to get into
the details. But That is a body,
390
00:21:51,072 --> 00:21:53,259
a ketone body that is small
enough to cross the blood vein.
391
00:21:53,560 --> 00:21:57,148
Front blood brain barrier. So
the brain actually loves
392
00:21:57,189 --> 00:21:59,155
ketones. If ketones are
available, the brain will suck
393
00:21:59,215 --> 00:21:59,496
them up.
394
00:22:00,428 --> 00:22:03,764
Otherwise, the brain needs.
Glucose. Okay. Then the last
395
00:22:03,804 --> 00:22:07,174
therapeutic diet that I use is a
carnivore diet. So this is
396
00:22:07,194 --> 00:22:09,566
someone who in my version of
carnivore, we don't do pure
397
00:22:09,606 --> 00:22:12,505
meat. We tend to avoid it if
it's at all possible. Sometimes,
398
00:22:12,525 --> 00:22:15,270
like I have a client at the
moment, whose gut is so messed
399
00:22:15,270 --> 00:22:18,216
up. That we really need to do.
Only meat diet. Das ist die only
400
00:22:18,276 --> 00:22:18,922
thing, was ich kann beraten.
401
00:22:19,255 --> 00:22:21,993
Handled And he's going to in his
case, that's going to be the
402
00:22:21,993 --> 00:22:24,149
case for a couple of months.
Until he starts to heal and then
403
00:22:24,169 --> 00:22:27,208
we'll introduce some vegetables.
But in general, the way I prefer
404
00:22:27,229 --> 00:22:29,755
to do Carnivore with clients who
want to do that. I prefer to
405
00:22:29,775 --> 00:22:34,124
keep in some fermented
vegetables. And maybe well Maybe
406
00:22:34,184 --> 00:22:36,982
a little bit of... Look, low
carb fruit. If you want. Like
407
00:22:37,002 --> 00:22:38,258
some blueberries or something if
you want.
408
00:22:39,402 --> 00:22:42,694
So i'm not super strict is what
i'm trying to say i i adapt
409
00:22:42,714 --> 00:22:46,024
these approaches to the needs of
the client. Does that make
410
00:22:46,024 --> 00:22:46,310
sense?
411
00:22:48,834 --> 00:22:49,359
GENERIC: Yes and no.
412
00:22:50,695 --> 00:22:51,060
SAMEER DOSSANI: Um...
413
00:22:52,073 --> 00:22:57,834
GENERIC: The no part is...
Thanks for watching I don't know
414
00:22:57,834 --> 00:23:01,626
how to explain it, but I feel
like... Maybe it's just me
415
00:23:01,846 --> 00:23:05,151
personally and the way my body
works, but eating too much meat
416
00:23:05,211 --> 00:23:10,770
for me. It like i get sleepy and
then i field. Gassy. I feel like
417
00:23:10,770 --> 00:23:14,727
it's rotting in my stomach and
then it's the flatulence, right?
418
00:23:14,970 --> 00:23:24,716
So I the introducing more like
plant i mean not not like the a
419
00:23:24,777 --> 00:23:28,444
vegan burger is like that's a
question mark but it's yeah no
420
00:23:28,484 --> 00:23:30,850
i'm with you so the symptoms
you're describing it's just like
421
00:23:30,970 --> 00:23:34,532
tomatoes and beans and
vegetables it's like it does
422
00:23:34,613 --> 00:23:39,875
kind of I've Like... Purified
more in a way when i introduced
423
00:23:40,097 --> 00:23:43,980
that more as opposed to just
like strictly eating burgers and
424
00:23:44,040 --> 00:23:45,184
you know so it's like.
425
00:23:45,994 --> 00:23:48,180
SAMEER DOSSANI: Yeah, I'm with
you. So the tough thing is, and
426
00:23:48,180 --> 00:23:51,423
this is tough. It was tough for
me too. Is that when we have
427
00:23:51,423 --> 00:23:53,310
been eating a largely
plant-based diet and i think all
428
00:23:53,310 --> 00:23:56,636
of us you know, are eating
mostly plant-based side or
429
00:23:56,636 --> 00:23:59,285
nearly nearly all of us are
eating mostly a plant-based
430
00:23:59,426 --> 00:24:02,923
diet. The problem is a number of
physiological adaptations
431
00:24:02,983 --> 00:24:04,901
happen. To make our body better
able to.
432
00:24:05,269 --> 00:24:09,499
Digest plants. And less able to
digest meat. Right And one of
433
00:24:09,499 --> 00:24:12,371
those physiological adaptations
that's perhaps the worst. By I
434
00:24:12,392 --> 00:24:15,144
think by far the worst and one
that I think I need to test,
435
00:24:15,185 --> 00:24:19,486
but. Based on your symptoms you
do suffer from. Is a low stomach
436
00:24:19,486 --> 00:24:22,747
acidity. What does that mean?
The acidity of the human stomach
437
00:24:22,827 --> 00:24:25,483
is very high. That means our pH
is very low.
438
00:24:26,132 --> 00:24:28,904
We are among the most acidic
stomachs in the animal kingdom.
439
00:24:29,493 --> 00:24:33,906
Healthy human stomach should be
about 1.5 or less. Okay. To give
440
00:24:33,906 --> 00:24:36,951
you a comparison. A lion's
stomach, lion clearly only eats
441
00:24:36,991 --> 00:24:40,959
meat. Is about Two and a half to
three. Our stomach is 10 times
442
00:24:40,999 --> 00:24:43,970
more acidic than a lion's
stomach. A chimp's stomach is
443
00:24:43,970 --> 00:24:46,793
about... So You remember the pH
scale?
444
00:24:48,395 --> 00:24:50,566
If you go from two to one,
that's 10 times. But if you go
445
00:24:50,586 --> 00:24:53,226
from three to one, that's 100
times. Right So a chimp's
446
00:24:53,246 --> 00:24:56,660
stomach is more than 100 times
less acidic. Than our stomach.
447
00:24:57,973 --> 00:25:00,145
Why do they have that? Chimps
have less acidic stomachs and
448
00:25:00,165 --> 00:25:02,602
other herbivores have less
acidic stomachs. Because they
449
00:25:02,662 --> 00:25:04,791
need lots of bugs in there. They
need lots of bugs to help them
450
00:25:04,811 --> 00:25:06,377
digest the fiber. They're not
going to be able to break down
451
00:25:06,377 --> 00:25:07,891
all those plants. On their own.
452
00:25:08,289 --> 00:25:10,483
They need to have a little zoo
inside their gut, and they have
453
00:25:10,463 --> 00:25:13,067
a special place to ferment those
things. Thanks Now, the problem
454
00:25:13,148 --> 00:25:16,191
is. Most of people who are
eating a standard diet. Have
455
00:25:16,191 --> 00:25:19,222
these symptoms. Thanks that if
we try and suddenly shift them
456
00:25:20,037 --> 00:25:22,244
or even we don't have to shift
them. They will complain of
457
00:25:22,264 --> 00:25:23,348
these symptoms no matter what.
458
00:25:25,075 --> 00:25:27,160
If they have a mixed meal of
some carbohydrates and some...
459
00:25:27,260 --> 00:25:30,350
Fats and some meat. They will
complain of the symptoms you're
460
00:25:30,350 --> 00:25:32,700
talking about, gaseous, and it
feels like it's not moving
461
00:25:32,720 --> 00:25:34,627
anywhere. There's a lack of
motility, et cetera, et cetera.
462
00:25:35,201 --> 00:25:36,311
So we have to supplement.
463
00:25:36,472 --> 00:25:38,870
In order to get the stomach.
That pH back to where it should
464
00:25:38,890 --> 00:25:41,539
be. And by the way, we have to
do this with vegans too. Like
465
00:25:41,559 --> 00:25:43,527
eventually your symptoms are
going to get so bad that you're
466
00:25:43,527 --> 00:25:45,973
going to have to... Do this. No
matter what you're eating. So,
467
00:25:46,617 --> 00:25:47,703
and what do we supplement with?
468
00:25:47,784 --> 00:25:50,726
Well, it depends on the age of
the client. What I tend to find
469
00:25:50,847 --> 00:25:56,010
is that people who are older
tend to need digestive enzymes.
470
00:25:56,150 --> 00:25:58,915
So these are things like again,
chemicals from papaya and
471
00:25:58,955 --> 00:26:02,594
pineapple. Things. That will
help break down the meat. If
472
00:26:02,594 --> 00:26:03,903
we're putting them on a higher
meat diet.
473
00:26:05,075 --> 00:26:07,103
So we give them a pill of that
kind of stuff or you can
474
00:26:07,405 --> 00:26:09,779
marinate the meat in that kind
of juice or something if you
475
00:26:09,779 --> 00:26:11,877
want as well to break it down a
little bit people who are
476
00:26:11,918 --> 00:26:15,024
younger. Like probably your age.
We actually need to do it to.
477
00:26:16,461 --> 00:26:19,184
Hydrochloric acid. So we're
actually giving. Very strong
478
00:26:19,688 --> 00:26:22,772
acid. To reduce the pH of the
stomach, to reduce the symptoms.
479
00:26:22,772 --> 00:26:25,362
Thanks now this is all you know
i don't take this as medical
480
00:26:25,362 --> 00:26:27,905
advice we need to do it in
consultation with someone who
481
00:26:27,905 --> 00:26:28,595
knows what they're doing.
482
00:26:29,764 --> 00:26:32,921
But if we do this the right way,
we can actually fix a lot of the
483
00:26:32,921 --> 00:26:36,322
problems. Now, the other problem
that we have is. Especially when
484
00:26:36,322 --> 00:26:37,547
people leave a plant-based diet.
485
00:26:38,752 --> 00:26:40,895
They tend, and I did this too,
like everyone's going to do
486
00:26:40,915 --> 00:26:42,758
this. This is just natural
instinct. I don't mean, there's
487
00:26:42,758 --> 00:26:45,430
no judgment in anything that I'm
saying. I'm just explaining how
488
00:26:45,410 --> 00:26:47,597
the process tends to work. And
the mistakes that we tend to
489
00:26:47,617 --> 00:26:51,067
make. Is that we will take so
let's take my vegan meal right
490
00:26:51,107 --> 00:26:54,564
my favorite vegan meal was like
I'd have this pasta with like.
491
00:26:54,649 --> 00:26:58,142
Thank you Peanut sauce and tofu
that I would make, right? Let's
492
00:26:58,162 --> 00:27:01,178
say i took that same thing so
pasta with a peanut butter sauce
493
00:27:01,218 --> 00:27:03,645
like it was a super like
university college food kind of
494
00:27:03,645 --> 00:27:06,559
stuff yeah I'd come back late at
night and, you know. Make a
495
00:27:06,579 --> 00:27:08,532
peanut sauce and throw some.
Cook spaghetti in there. Kind of
496
00:27:08,532 --> 00:27:08,718
thing.
497
00:27:09,930 --> 00:27:12,729
Let's say I did that whole thing
and I I put a stake on top of
498
00:27:12,729 --> 00:27:16,596
that. Now the problem is... I've
got so much carbohydrates in
499
00:27:16,596 --> 00:27:19,593
that pasta. It's a big bowl of
pasta. I've got so much fats in
500
00:27:19,573 --> 00:27:22,002
the peanuts. And now I'm adding
another layer of fat and
501
00:27:22,022 --> 00:27:25,047
carbohydrates. So I think it's
important here to talk about.
502
00:27:25,385 --> 00:27:27,683
Not bad in carbohydrates, bad in
protein. With the with the
503
00:27:27,704 --> 00:27:27,828
state.
504
00:27:28,464 --> 00:27:31,238
So I think it's important to
talk about energy versus
505
00:27:31,360 --> 00:27:33,862
protein. So we have three
macronutrients. The three
506
00:27:33,882 --> 00:27:37,241
macronutrients are
Carbohydrates, fats. And
507
00:27:37,281 --> 00:27:40,119
protein, carbohydrates and fats
are generally energy sources.
508
00:27:40,682 --> 00:27:43,809
And if we have. Most of us, like
myself, when I started this
509
00:27:43,829 --> 00:27:46,819
journey, I was 40 pounds
heavier. Right? So most of us
510
00:27:46,839 --> 00:27:49,367
have, at that time, I had too
much fat on my body.
511
00:27:50,742 --> 00:27:54,669
And what was happening was if i
There's something called the
512
00:27:54,669 --> 00:27:58,259
Randall Cycle. Which says that
if we have carbohydrates and
513
00:27:58,259 --> 00:28:00,181
fats in the same meal, we
actually get kind of a Double
514
00:28:00,284 --> 00:28:02,462
Dope. Thank you You're getting,
you're getting like. All that is
515
00:28:02,462 --> 00:28:04,961
sort of sucked into the cells.
In a toxic way.
516
00:28:06,508 --> 00:28:10,092
Creating what we call energy
toxicity. So if I do the
517
00:28:10,133 --> 00:28:12,657
standard plant-based switching
to meat. Stop. Which is
518
00:28:12,697 --> 00:28:14,646
basically to keep the
plant-based meal and just put a
519
00:28:14,666 --> 00:28:17,686
steak on top or put some meat on
top. You can actually make your
520
00:28:17,766 --> 00:28:21,375
symptoms worse. So the way I
generally recommend is I won't.
521
00:28:21,476 --> 00:28:23,863
You know, if someone's eating a
standard diet, I won't make them
522
00:28:23,883 --> 00:28:24,204
go to.
523
00:28:24,285 --> 00:28:27,206
Carnivore. That's ridiculous.
Thanks. I will. Take First
524
00:28:27,389 --> 00:28:29,910
First, take away some
carbohydrates. Replace that with
525
00:28:29,910 --> 00:28:33,970
good quality lean protein,
maybe. Slowly then increase the
526
00:28:34,171 --> 00:28:36,302
when we've got the carbohydrates
pretty much down to zero on the
527
00:28:36,302 --> 00:28:38,712
plate Then we increase the fats,
the healthy fats.
528
00:28:39,075 --> 00:28:41,509
Slowly. Again, everything has to
be done. Done slowly because the
529
00:28:41,530 --> 00:28:44,950
digestive system digestive
system is used to what you ate
530
00:28:44,970 --> 00:28:47,095
yesterday. If you give it
something completely different,
531
00:28:47,177 --> 00:28:49,627
You're going to have. Serious
reaction. Thanks You have to
532
00:28:49,648 --> 00:28:52,290
give it what you ate yesterday.
But with some adjustments. And
533
00:28:52,310 --> 00:28:53,182
with a target in mind.
534
00:28:54,340 --> 00:28:56,011
So there's a process that has to
be done.
535
00:28:57,509 --> 00:29:02,347
GENERIC: So is it just... The
issue is that people who are
536
00:29:02,447 --> 00:29:05,816
vegetarian or vegan. More so
vegan. It's...
537
00:29:07,804 --> 00:29:11,893
They're not. Incorporating
protein. Into the diet is that
538
00:29:11,954 --> 00:29:16,198
what it is and you're I mean, is
that the argument that you're
539
00:29:16,198 --> 00:29:17,303
trying to make? Is that...
540
00:29:18,630 --> 00:29:23,420
You know you know vegans they
it's there are Like they'll eat
541
00:29:23,461 --> 00:29:25,977
the, like you said, like the
pasta and the peanut sauce, you
542
00:29:25,977 --> 00:29:26,399
know, but.
543
00:29:27,085 --> 00:29:29,195
SAMEER DOSSANI: There's no
closing. I was pretty focused on
544
00:29:29,195 --> 00:29:29,316
that.
545
00:29:29,457 --> 00:29:31,929
GENERIC: They're just not
getting. Protein, is that what
546
00:29:31,929 --> 00:29:32,251
it is?
547
00:29:33,341 --> 00:29:34,847
SAMEER DOSSANI: Remember, I was
a very health conscious vegan.
548
00:29:35,325 --> 00:29:37,472
And so I was putting the tofu or
the beans in there or something,
549
00:29:37,492 --> 00:29:39,478
and I thought I was getting
protein. The problem is I didn't
550
00:29:39,498 --> 00:29:42,111
understand about protein.
Protein digestibility. Indexes.
551
00:29:42,315 --> 00:29:46,809
Right So you read on a package
of Tofu, for example, you read
552
00:29:46,809 --> 00:29:49,588
that it has I don't know, 30
grams of protein this month.
553
00:29:49,630 --> 00:29:52,032
Yes. Don't quote me. I need to
talk for a long time.
554
00:29:53,373 --> 00:29:55,482
So, but let's say for the sake
of argument, it has 30 grams of
555
00:29:55,482 --> 00:29:57,784
protein. There's something
called the protein digestible
556
00:29:57,945 --> 00:30:00,730
diet. Digestibility. Index.
There's actually two of these.
557
00:30:01,158 --> 00:30:03,672
When it's called PDCAS and when
it's called Diaz, Diaz is the
558
00:30:03,672 --> 00:30:04,074
better one.
559
00:30:04,718 --> 00:30:07,851
So what they did is when you eat
these things, because they come
560
00:30:07,871 --> 00:30:11,846
with antinutrients. Thanks. It a
lot of it is not able to be
561
00:30:11,867 --> 00:30:14,933
digested. So what they did is
they looked at the digestive
562
00:30:14,933 --> 00:30:16,865
tract, they looked at it in the
pig. Pig is actually quite
563
00:30:16,905 --> 00:30:20,218
similar to digestive tract to a
human. And then measured how
564
00:30:20,218 --> 00:30:22,666
much was actually coming out of
the small intestine.
565
00:30:23,011 --> 00:30:25,040
So how much protein was there
and how much protein was bound
566
00:30:25,080 --> 00:30:27,932
up and coming up in the small
intestine? And what she found is
567
00:30:27,953 --> 00:30:31,731
that all of the plant proteins
are not complete proteins in the
568
00:30:31,751 --> 00:30:35,004
sense that they're not. You
don't digest those 30 grams. In
569
00:30:34,983 --> 00:30:35,648
the case of tofu...
570
00:30:36,168 --> 00:30:40,030
I think. My guess per story was
about 60%. So if it's 30 in
571
00:30:40,071 --> 00:30:43,370
there, you're at most getting
about 20. Okay, 20 grams of
572
00:30:43,370 --> 00:30:46,975
protein. Now, the problem is in
order to. Trigger something
573
00:30:46,995 --> 00:30:52,512
called protein muscle synthesis
right so in order to trigger the
574
00:30:52,713 --> 00:30:54,833
positive aspects of eating a
high protein meal.
575
00:30:56,064 --> 00:30:59,999
We need at least about 30 grams
of protein. So I picked 30 kind
576
00:30:59,999 --> 00:31:02,780
of at random, but not at random
because. That's That's to me
577
00:31:02,840 --> 00:31:05,482
what a high protein meal looks
like is 30 grams. Protein. If
578
00:31:05,462 --> 00:31:08,130
you have 30 grams of... Animal
protein, you're going to hit
579
00:31:08,130 --> 00:31:12,073
that 100%. Pretty much. Yeah,
100% of the time you're going to
580
00:31:12,073 --> 00:31:12,375
hit that.
581
00:31:13,182 --> 00:31:15,526
If you have 30 grams of plant
protein, you're pretty much
582
00:31:15,586 --> 00:31:18,777
never going to hit that. It's
all less than one. And it
583
00:31:18,777 --> 00:31:21,038
depends. So you have to go more.
Now, the problem is if you're
584
00:31:21,038 --> 00:31:22,965
talking about getting your
protein from beans and tofu and
585
00:31:22,965 --> 00:31:26,609
so on. Now you're talking about.
The increasing the amount of
586
00:31:26,589 --> 00:31:29,515
them. And how many beans can you
eat? Can you eat a kilo of
587
00:31:29,755 --> 00:31:30,778
cooked beans in a serving?
588
00:31:31,235 --> 00:31:33,677
And that's two and a half
pounds. Can you do that? Nobody
589
00:31:33,738 --> 00:31:38,457
can. There's no way. So when
vegans say, You can get all your
590
00:31:38,457 --> 00:31:40,709
protein you need from beans.
Yeah, technically that's true.
591
00:31:41,542 --> 00:31:44,022
But there are limits in terms of
the size of the stomach. And if
592
00:31:44,042 --> 00:31:46,116
you eat. That many beans every
day, you're going to have
593
00:31:46,337 --> 00:31:48,169
serious digestive issues. And I
know because.
594
00:31:48,742 --> 00:31:50,748
Those are my clients. Some of my
clients are the ones who have
595
00:31:50,768 --> 00:31:56,080
these. Serious digestive issues.
It's. Hard to I mean, it's very
596
00:31:56,140 --> 00:31:58,284
difficult for me to help the
ones who insist on being vegan.
597
00:31:58,284 --> 00:32:01,331
Let me put it that way. Because
yes, we can fix the stomach, but
598
00:32:01,331 --> 00:32:02,778
then... I can't give you a way.
599
00:32:03,205 --> 00:32:05,903
When you We should you know when
i teach you how to eat or if i
600
00:32:05,923 --> 00:32:09,166
try to work out a vegan meal
plan for you You're going to
601
00:32:09,247 --> 00:32:12,659
your digestive. Distress is
going to come back again. And
602
00:32:12,659 --> 00:32:14,753
like I said, people can get away
with this stuff, maybe in their
603
00:32:14,793 --> 00:32:18,243
teens, maybe in their 20s. I
don't recommend it. In your
604
00:32:18,243 --> 00:32:23,410
teens or twenties. Because your
lifetime protein muscle
605
00:32:23,450 --> 00:32:28,711
synthesis, your lifetime sort of
muscle. Maths Max is out.
606
00:32:30,071 --> 00:32:34,482
At age 25. So we actually want
people eating as many high
607
00:32:34,482 --> 00:32:37,410
protein meals as possible up
before age 25.
608
00:32:38,843 --> 00:32:40,768
So just so that they can
maximize that muscle mass and
609
00:32:40,768 --> 00:32:43,454
then as we get older as you get
to my age in your 40s and 50s
610
00:32:44,163 --> 00:32:47,291
Then we start losing muscle
and... It becomes even harder
611
00:32:47,312 --> 00:32:50,613
for us to digest protein as
well. So it's actually super
612
00:32:50,654 --> 00:32:53,442
important as we get older to
increase both the... Quantity
613
00:32:53,584 --> 00:32:56,085
and quality of protein that
we're eating as well So protein
614
00:32:56,085 --> 00:32:58,037
is a big part of it. Is it the
only part of it? No.
615
00:32:59,291 --> 00:33:01,328
As I mentioned, there are
anti-nutrients that are just, I
616
00:33:01,328 --> 00:33:05,177
think, There are. Under
underappreciated sort of plague
617
00:33:05,198 --> 00:33:05,969
that we're dealing with.
618
00:33:06,090 --> 00:33:08,336
The number of people I know with
autoimmune disease, the number
619
00:33:08,356 --> 00:33:12,807
of people I know with weird
allergies developed later in
620
00:33:12,847 --> 00:33:16,985
life and so on i mean it's it's
crazy And I think a huge part of
621
00:33:17,005 --> 00:33:19,797
this is. But I can just say from
experience, when we take the
622
00:33:19,817 --> 00:33:23,011
plant toxins out of the diet,
people heal. The hill quickly.
623
00:33:25,376 --> 00:33:28,614
GENERIC: So... I guess I'm
trying to wrap my head around it
624
00:33:28,715 --> 00:33:30,683
because it's like, oh, wow.
625
00:33:31,847 --> 00:33:33,564
You know, a completely
different.
626
00:33:36,411 --> 00:33:40,884
Idea when it comes to nutrition
so now what so in terms of meat
627
00:33:40,884 --> 00:33:47,285
itself so you're not
recommending like 100 me like
628
00:33:47,345 --> 00:33:50,986
you're saying like you still
need the carbs You still need.
629
00:33:51,970 --> 00:33:53,615
SAMEER DOSSANI: No i'm not
saying that i'm not certainly
630
00:33:53,615 --> 00:33:56,391
not saying you need anything
what i'm saying is You should.
631
00:33:57,147 --> 00:34:00,405
People should eat how they need
to eat in order to heal. And for
632
00:34:00,486 --> 00:34:03,461
most people, You don't need to
go on a purely carnivorous diet
633
00:34:03,461 --> 00:34:04,025
in order to heal.
634
00:34:05,191 --> 00:34:07,836
But some people do. And in that
case, we should certainly don't
635
00:34:07,856 --> 00:34:10,101
need carbohydrates. That much is
true. There are essential fatty
636
00:34:10,161 --> 00:34:12,724
acids. There are essential amino
acids, meaning proteins. There's
637
00:34:12,724 --> 00:34:13,653
no essential carbohydrate.
638
00:34:14,803 --> 00:34:19,045
The way I... Tend to Most of my
clients. Want to keep some plant
639
00:34:19,066 --> 00:34:22,352
foods in. They don't want to be
carnivore frozen. Rest of their
640
00:34:22,373 --> 00:34:28,126
lives. And so I worry about been
very strictly carnivore for long
641
00:34:28,146 --> 00:34:31,098
periods of time because then
reintroducing the plant foods
642
00:34:31,098 --> 00:34:34,038
can become a little bit. Tricky.
So the way I do carnivore, as I
643
00:34:34,038 --> 00:34:37,213
mentioned, I prefer to keep some
fermented vegetables in. In
644
00:34:37,213 --> 00:34:37,741
particular.
645
00:34:39,023 --> 00:34:42,571
So kimchi, sauerkraut. Why
fermented? Because those are
646
00:34:42,591 --> 00:34:46,229
traditionally the ways that we
detoxify the vegetables. Korean
647
00:34:46,269 --> 00:34:50,215
culture learned how to detoxify
vegetables through a process of
648
00:34:50,236 --> 00:34:53,013
fermenting them, making a pickle
called kimchi. Which is also
649
00:34:53,074 --> 00:34:53,381
tasty.
650
00:34:54,823 --> 00:34:58,522
And it's much easier to digest.
And you know, it's really good.
651
00:34:58,562 --> 00:35:02,686
I think it's It's It has a lot
of type polyphenols, which are
652
00:35:02,686 --> 00:35:06,214
good for the microbiome. So I
think fermenting vegetables you
653
00:35:06,214 --> 00:35:09,553
get some of the benefits without
any of the harm. So You know, if
654
00:35:09,532 --> 00:35:12,505
you ask me what's like the ideal
diet. For humans who want to
655
00:35:12,526 --> 00:35:13,714
heal. It would be.
656
00:35:15,169 --> 00:35:17,755
By calories, it would be like
90% meat and 10% fermented
657
00:35:17,795 --> 00:35:18,156
vegetables.
658
00:35:18,156 --> 00:35:23,479
GENERIC: Thank you So is it
certain? Is it any meat? Or is
659
00:35:23,539 --> 00:35:24,101
it like.
660
00:35:25,432 --> 00:35:27,924
I mean can someone eat because
there's heavier meats like
661
00:35:27,944 --> 00:35:31,851
there's there's the goats There
is. And there's the lighter
662
00:35:32,405 --> 00:35:33,798
Meats like chicken.
663
00:35:34,517 --> 00:35:36,679
SAMEER DOSSANI: So the heavy
lighter stuff, I don't really.
664
00:35:36,842 --> 00:35:42,246
Agree with. I mean, So, you
know, what we tend to use the
665
00:35:42,287 --> 00:35:42,728
most.
666
00:35:44,371 --> 00:35:48,372
Is is red meat in general so so
beef lamb End quote, yes.
667
00:35:49,632 --> 00:35:53,816
And Thank There is some evidence
saying that keeping fish in is
668
00:35:53,856 --> 00:35:57,142
important, but I'm... I'm kind
of in two minds about that, so I
669
00:35:57,142 --> 00:36:00,113
don't really care. But the basic
story is if someone comes to me
670
00:36:00,113 --> 00:36:03,176
and they need to heal. Short
answer. The quickest thing I
671
00:36:03,176 --> 00:36:05,611
will tell them is, How can we
get more meat into your diet?
672
00:36:06,401 --> 00:36:08,672
And if they say, I like pork,
they're going to eat more pork.
673
00:36:09,113 --> 00:36:10,965
If they say I like fish, they're
going to eat more fish.
674
00:36:11,045 --> 00:36:13,474
If they say I like beef, they're
going to eat more beef. Then we
675
00:36:13,474 --> 00:36:16,554
take it from there. So at the
general level, there's no big
676
00:36:16,614 --> 00:36:18,746
rule. Eventually what people
tend to do and what I think is
677
00:36:18,766 --> 00:36:21,221
that probably the healthiest and
the most ancestrally
678
00:36:21,624 --> 00:36:25,711
appropriate. Is to mostly eat
ruminant meat. Why ruminant
679
00:36:25,731 --> 00:36:29,243
meat? Because... So ruminants,
as I mentioned, are those
680
00:36:29,384 --> 00:36:30,771
animals with multiple stomachs.
681
00:36:32,062 --> 00:36:34,391
So the problem in our modern
food system and sort of
682
00:36:34,411 --> 00:36:37,840
capitalist food system Thanks is
that we tend to cut corners and
683
00:36:37,820 --> 00:36:42,657
we tend to feed the animals crop
whenever we can. Right And in
684
00:36:42,637 --> 00:36:47,622
the case of a chicken or a pig,
for example. Or even fish. When
685
00:36:47,622 --> 00:36:50,629
you feed that animal crap, that
Some of that crap stays in the
686
00:36:50,629 --> 00:36:52,230
animal. Stays in the fat
particularly.
687
00:36:52,740 --> 00:36:56,056
And then you eat it and now you
have crap in you. Right really
688
00:36:56,117 --> 00:36:58,530
poor quality food. Thank you you
know. Think of those pellets
689
00:36:58,551 --> 00:37:01,421
they feed the fish. I mean, it's
just terrible stuff. Fish farms.
690
00:37:02,158 --> 00:37:06,078
So but In the case of a cow,
first of all, cows First of all,
691
00:37:06,078 --> 00:37:09,850
there's some ruminants like
bison. And learn and and sheep.
692
00:37:09,972 --> 00:37:11,643
That really can only be fed
grass.
693
00:37:12,228 --> 00:37:14,179
So if you're getting bison, if
you're getting sheep, it's a
694
00:37:14,199 --> 00:37:17,021
hundred percent grass fed, grass
finished everything. Right. Even
695
00:37:17,082 --> 00:37:19,954
beef, commercially available
beef in the United States. Is
696
00:37:20,015 --> 00:37:23,248
fed grass for most of its life.
It spends the last couple of
697
00:37:23,248 --> 00:37:27,967
months on some grains in order
to fatten up. But because or the
698
00:37:27,987 --> 00:37:31,168
grain finished ones, right? Not
the grass finish ones. But
699
00:37:31,209 --> 00:37:33,082
because cows had multiple
stomachs.
700
00:37:33,476 --> 00:37:36,164
The fatty acid profile doesn't
change so much. Thank you So
701
00:37:36,184 --> 00:37:39,310
there's a number of people in my
space who say, no, you can only
702
00:37:39,350 --> 00:37:42,636
eat grass finished, et cetera,
et cetera. I don't believe that.
703
00:37:42,636 --> 00:37:45,381
If you look at the data, if you
look at the actual studies, look
704
00:37:45,381 --> 00:37:50,439
at the the people looking at the
fat content of a of grass finish
705
00:37:50,459 --> 00:37:52,107
versus grain finish cows under a
microscope.
706
00:37:52,557 --> 00:37:55,235
There's not much of a
difference. And what I've seen
707
00:37:55,255 --> 00:37:58,187
in my own practice is I mean, I
know people who've been on.
708
00:37:58,388 --> 00:38:00,671
Grain finished meat for years
and years. Very, very healthy.
709
00:38:01,116 --> 00:38:04,214
Pretty much all they eat. So I
haven't seen any evidence of any
710
00:38:04,274 --> 00:38:08,817
problem with grain finished
beef. I do see. I won't say. I
711
00:38:08,797 --> 00:38:10,666
do see anecdotal evidence, like
again, like.
712
00:38:11,069 --> 00:38:13,437
If someone only wants to eat
chicken. Fine, no problem. If
713
00:38:13,437 --> 00:38:15,653
that's what you want to do. But
it's not my favorite. I would
714
00:38:15,694 --> 00:38:21,173
say. Because chickens tend to...
As i say Thank you the crop that
715
00:38:21,193 --> 00:38:24,125
they're fed. So again, chickens
are fed these pellets and soy,
716
00:38:24,205 --> 00:38:27,500
and it's got all kinds of weird.
Stuff in there In fact, we have
717
00:38:27,500 --> 00:38:28,968
a story of my my.
718
00:38:29,144 --> 00:38:31,234
Why if at some point when we
were getting off the vegetarian
719
00:38:31,254 --> 00:38:34,522
diet, my wife developed a very
severe sore allergy. And for a
720
00:38:34,542 --> 00:38:37,213
while she couldn't take any
chicken, any eggs. Why? Because
721
00:38:37,233 --> 00:38:39,967
the chicken and eggs were being
fed soy. And the story was
722
00:38:40,007 --> 00:38:43,669
ending up in there and she was
allergic to it. So, now We were
723
00:38:43,689 --> 00:38:45,900
able to undo those allergies.
Now she can have chicken and
724
00:38:45,920 --> 00:38:46,683
eggs if she wants to.
725
00:38:47,836 --> 00:38:50,215
But in general, we find, again,
we prefer to eat. Beef in them
726
00:38:50,276 --> 00:38:51,007
as much as we can.
727
00:38:53,409 --> 00:38:56,707
GENERIC: So it's, oh, so certain
animals. So it's about how the
728
00:38:56,787 --> 00:38:57,371
animals are.
729
00:38:58,570 --> 00:39:00,227
And, you know, and that adds
into.
730
00:39:01,308 --> 00:39:04,540
SAMEER DOSSANI: The argument is
that... Yeah. Cows have a
731
00:39:04,540 --> 00:39:07,523
physiology where You can feed
them crop. And it won't end up
732
00:39:07,523 --> 00:39:10,794
in their fat. Chickens don't
have that. They have chickens
733
00:39:10,814 --> 00:39:12,429
only have one stomach. Kha'zix
IV.
734
00:39:13,511 --> 00:39:18,362
GENERIC: Right So, oh, so beef,
so more beef, more lamb, less
735
00:39:18,423 --> 00:39:18,724
chicken.
736
00:39:20,564 --> 00:39:22,850
SAMEER DOSSANI: Over, I mean,
like I say, this is like a lot
737
00:39:22,850 --> 00:39:24,994
of this is personal preference.
So if someone says they want
738
00:39:25,035 --> 00:39:28,107
chicken, just eat chicken and
see how you feel. But what we
739
00:39:28,147 --> 00:39:30,785
find is that over time, people
tend to gravitate to the less
740
00:39:30,845 --> 00:39:34,643
toxic. Tweets. Which to me are
the ruminant. And wildcardfish
741
00:39:34,643 --> 00:39:35,251
if you can get it.
742
00:39:36,761 --> 00:39:37,941
GENERIC: So my thing is
though...
743
00:39:39,233 --> 00:39:44,203
You can still have diseases
by... Eating a lot of meat. You
744
00:39:44,203 --> 00:39:47,536
know because there's you know
there's hormones being injected
745
00:39:47,576 --> 00:39:50,918
into animals right and it's the
crap that they're eating that
746
00:39:50,978 --> 00:39:56,108
you're talking about and you
know that and then Whereas
747
00:39:56,450 --> 00:39:59,954
spraying pesticides on the
vegetables that The animals.
748
00:40:00,129 --> 00:40:03,332
Are eating, which ends up inside
them. And then in turn... Ends
749
00:40:03,352 --> 00:40:06,951
up inside of us. So. You know
there's that food chain.
750
00:40:08,365 --> 00:40:12,104
You know what do you say about
What's your argument with that
751
00:40:12,164 --> 00:40:15,980
about, you know, you could
still... Get I mean, you're
752
00:40:16,040 --> 00:40:19,581
saying, you know, introduce more
meat into the diet. To reverse.
753
00:40:20,011 --> 00:40:23,091
Autoimmune diseases but there's
still other diseases that you
754
00:40:23,091 --> 00:40:25,274
can get. From eating too much
meat.
755
00:40:26,645 --> 00:40:28,533
SAMEER DOSSANI: You know what
what disease can you go from
756
00:40:28,533 --> 00:40:31,001
eating too much meat Like.
757
00:40:33,245 --> 00:40:34,070
GENERIC: If you're...
758
00:40:37,368 --> 00:40:40,454
I mean, I mean, depending on how
the animal is cooked, like that
759
00:40:40,514 --> 00:40:40,714
stuff.
760
00:40:42,081 --> 00:40:44,497
That could also be digestive
because it's rotting inside of
761
00:40:44,538 --> 00:40:46,458
you. And in your intestines.
762
00:40:47,133 --> 00:40:49,831
SAMEER DOSSANI: Yeah, so I think
we need to debunk a lot of... A
763
00:40:49,851 --> 00:40:58,364
lot of this So as far as I'm
aware, right there is so so The
764
00:40:58,385 --> 00:41:00,390
first thing about this rotting
inside of you stuff, like that's
765
00:41:00,410 --> 00:41:03,586
complete nonsense. Thanks So,
so. The food that rots inside
766
00:41:03,586 --> 00:41:05,563
you is actually the vegetable
food. Cause that has to get to
767
00:41:05,543 --> 00:41:05,987
the colon.
768
00:41:06,561 --> 00:41:08,699
Where it has to be, it has to
run, it has to be fermented.
769
00:41:08,800 --> 00:41:11,055
Right. And you don't actually
get a lot of the nutrition. A
770
00:41:11,055 --> 00:41:14,395
lot of that is there to feed.
Thank buy them So plant foods
771
00:41:14,435 --> 00:41:17,203
tend to be digested further
down. That also means they get
772
00:41:17,244 --> 00:41:20,396
excreted quicker. But there's
more sort of rotting going on.
773
00:41:20,396 --> 00:41:21,460
There's less actual digestion.
774
00:41:22,188 --> 00:41:24,016
So we need to distinguish
between what happens in the
775
00:41:24,036 --> 00:41:27,183
small intestine, which is actual
That's for humans. What happens?
776
00:41:27,621 --> 00:41:29,835
In the small intestines for
humans. What happens in the
777
00:41:30,237 --> 00:41:33,507
large intestine, the colon,
That's... For the bugs in you.
778
00:41:33,609 --> 00:41:35,620
That's for the microbiome. The
microbiome is very important.
779
00:41:35,934 --> 00:41:36,783
I'm not saying that it's not.
780
00:41:38,112 --> 00:41:41,820
But meat is digested in the
small intestine. Meat is where
781
00:41:41,820 --> 00:41:45,071
you get nutrition from. Right
need to digest it further up.
782
00:41:45,272 --> 00:41:48,639
The system and meat is digested
slowly. Why? Because it's got a
783
00:41:48,659 --> 00:41:51,618
lot more nutrients. Thanks. The
body wants to suck as many
784
00:41:51,658 --> 00:41:54,726
nutrients as it can. Ken, out of
that. So it does. It does take
785
00:41:54,747 --> 00:41:57,661
12 to 14 hours for. Me to be
digested. Absolutely true.
786
00:41:58,921 --> 00:42:01,253
But it's not the case that it's.
Rotting in there. Right.
787
00:42:01,273 --> 00:42:04,428
Especially if. It might be
rotting if you have a... If you
788
00:42:04,428 --> 00:42:06,351
don't have an acidic enough
stomach. You don't have an
789
00:42:06,351 --> 00:42:09,412
aesthetic enough. Small
intestine. But that's a problem
790
00:42:09,432 --> 00:42:10,116
that can be fixed.
791
00:42:10,197 --> 00:42:13,096
That's That's a clinical
diagnosis that we can make. Fix
792
00:42:14,050 --> 00:42:16,577
So but if the human. Gut is
functioning correctly. There's
793
00:42:16,577 --> 00:42:20,640
no rotting that's going on
except in the large intestine.
794
00:42:20,640 --> 00:42:22,808
When you have plant foods that
are not digested, that do rot,
795
00:42:23,405 --> 00:42:26,948
in a shorter period of time, six
to eight hours. But it's kind of
796
00:42:26,969 --> 00:42:27,231
gross.
797
00:42:27,331 --> 00:42:30,356
And like, I don't want to go
into how much. Farting and you
798
00:42:30,356 --> 00:42:32,399
know, all this kind of. Gassy
stuff that I had to deal with
799
00:42:32,399 --> 00:42:35,642
when I was vegan, but it's not,
it's not pleasant. Right. So I
800
00:42:35,642 --> 00:42:39,941
think we have to just. Make that
distinction that actually First
801
00:42:39,941 --> 00:42:42,375
of all, what happens in the in
the small intestine.
802
00:42:42,557 --> 00:42:45,669
That's actual nutrition. When
you're eating only plants, those
803
00:42:45,669 --> 00:42:47,721
go straight to the... Large
intestine, they are not I'm not
804
00:42:47,721 --> 00:42:50,899
really feeding you. It's a form
of starvation. It's a form of
805
00:42:50,899 --> 00:42:52,383
fasting. Not fruit.
806
00:42:52,982 --> 00:42:58,409
Right even the the and even the
the plant foods that i recommend
807
00:42:58,449 --> 00:43:01,034
keeping in why i might recommend
keeping them in for the bugs not
808
00:43:01,034 --> 00:43:04,302
for the human the human isn't
getting anything So once we
809
00:43:04,322 --> 00:43:07,067
understand that plants it's
really really difficult to get
810
00:43:07,188 --> 00:43:10,471
any nourishment at all from
plants then we can actually
811
00:43:10,512 --> 00:43:12,048
start to have a proper
discussion about human.
812
00:43:12,048 --> 00:43:15,007
Patricia. Does that make sense?
And from my perspective as an
813
00:43:15,027 --> 00:43:17,242
anthropologist, I mean, you go
back into history and you see
814
00:43:17,282 --> 00:43:20,288
what... Amore rectus. And as all
this we're eating, I mean,
815
00:43:20,308 --> 00:43:21,555
they're eating massive.
816
00:43:22,185 --> 00:43:25,986
Macedons you know elephants and
all these kind of things And
817
00:43:26,006 --> 00:43:28,603
there, you know, when we try and
figure out from their bones how
818
00:43:28,623 --> 00:43:30,455
much meat they were eating per
day. Some of the numbers we're
819
00:43:30,455 --> 00:43:33,946
getting are insane. Like 1.5
kilos a day, that's like. Three
820
00:43:33,967 --> 00:43:35,382
pounds of meat a day per person.
821
00:43:36,841 --> 00:43:39,659
So and those are We're really
the descendants. We're living
822
00:43:40,101 --> 00:43:42,848
descendants of those people. And
remember those people were, they
823
00:43:42,848 --> 00:43:44,839
had. They were taller than us.
They had bigger brains than us.
824
00:43:45,380 --> 00:43:46,511
They seem to be healthier than
us.
825
00:43:46,712 --> 00:43:48,765
We look at their bones they
didn't get the kind of old age
826
00:43:48,805 --> 00:43:52,717
diseases it's very hard to tell
the age of a Stone Age human
827
00:43:52,798 --> 00:43:56,899
because You can have a human
who's Clearly, this person, you
828
00:43:56,899 --> 00:43:58,671
know, you can see that there's
evidence that the person was.
829
00:43:59,145 --> 00:44:02,041
Older than 20. But they have the
bones of a 20 year old because
830
00:44:02,041 --> 00:44:02,883
their bones never got old.
831
00:44:03,653 --> 00:44:08,469
The stadium. Right that's That's
our history. And what I'm trying
832
00:44:08,469 --> 00:44:11,658
to say is that if we eat
according to that history, at
833
00:44:11,658 --> 00:44:14,466
least we're going to be. As
healthy as possible. Thank At
834
00:44:14,487 --> 00:44:16,673
least we're not going to have
These new diseases, the diseases
835
00:44:16,713 --> 00:44:17,295
of modernity.
836
00:44:17,677 --> 00:44:21,601
Diseases of civilization. The
diseases are that we all see
837
00:44:21,742 --> 00:44:24,914
around us every day, heart
disease, cancer. And dementia
838
00:44:24,975 --> 00:44:28,218
Alzheimer's. These are the main
killers. To be honest, they
839
00:44:28,218 --> 00:44:31,570
don't need to be killers. Eight
ancestrally appropriate.
840
00:44:31,988 --> 00:44:33,635
Meat-based diets, they wouldn't
be killers.
841
00:44:36,362 --> 00:44:40,701
GENERIC: And the thing is, I
mean, to eat how the ancestors
842
00:44:40,802 --> 00:44:46,074
eat, the thing is, the ancestors
were... In a different time. So
843
00:44:46,175 --> 00:44:49,537
do you think? I mean... There
wasn't a lot of
844
00:44:49,577 --> 00:44:52,927
industrialization. There wasn't
a lot of, you know, so it was.
845
00:44:54,207 --> 00:44:54,899
SAMEER DOSSANI: I mean, we
have...
846
00:44:55,204 --> 00:44:56,922
GENERIC: How can we eat like the
ancestors eat?
847
00:44:58,761 --> 00:45:01,721
SAMEER DOSSANI: So let me let me
Put it to you this way. Right.
848
00:45:01,803 --> 00:45:05,633
So we take. A tiger. From the
wild. Captured the tiger, we put
849
00:45:05,633 --> 00:45:08,372
it in the zoo. Right. Do we
certainly start feeding the
850
00:45:08,372 --> 00:45:10,827
tiger Cheerios? And is that.
What we think is an appropriate
851
00:45:10,827 --> 00:45:14,382
diet for the tiger, or do we?
Through our research. To figure
852
00:45:14,382 --> 00:45:15,954
out, okay, we've changed the
tiger's environment.
853
00:45:16,076 --> 00:45:18,820
But what was it eating in the
wild? And we have to get it a
854
00:45:18,840 --> 00:45:22,609
diet that's as close to what it
was. Wild. As we kept it. And
855
00:45:22,609 --> 00:45:26,014
the answer is that we do the
latter. And, you know, humans.
856
00:45:26,540 --> 00:45:28,996
Physiologically, we haven't
changed in 350,000 years. We
857
00:45:29,057 --> 00:45:32,620
are. We are genetically
identical. C'est bon human
858
00:45:32,620 --> 00:45:33,717
350,000 years ago.
859
00:45:35,043 --> 00:45:38,957
What would be the hypothesis?
You know your your hypothesis
860
00:45:39,038 --> 00:45:42,195
that is that in industrial
capitalism something changes in
861
00:45:42,215 --> 00:45:45,814
human physiology so we need
another kind of diet. It seems
862
00:45:45,834 --> 00:45:49,591
like a pretty ridiculous
hypothesis to me. Thank So the
863
00:45:49,631 --> 00:45:52,765
hypothesis, the fact that we
haven't changed in 300,000
864
00:45:52,785 --> 00:45:54,963
years. That's a matter of. Fact.
865
00:45:55,351 --> 00:45:58,001
No one can dispute that. No
paleoanthropologist will dispute
866
00:45:58,001 --> 00:46:00,976
that. No anthropologist will
dispute that. Thank So given
867
00:46:00,976 --> 00:46:03,181
that that's the case, doesn't it
make sense to look at the diet
868
00:46:03,221 --> 00:46:05,685
we evolved in the past? It
doesn't. Let's go. And use that
869
00:46:05,665 --> 00:46:08,462
at least at the starting point.
And take away all the crap.
870
00:46:08,583 --> 00:46:11,164
Like, and by crap, I don't just
mean the obvious crap. The
871
00:46:11,224 --> 00:46:14,310
chocolate and the But things
like things like peanuts, I
872
00:46:14,310 --> 00:46:17,822
mean, how would we have access
to peanuts in the wild? Maybe in
873
00:46:17,801 --> 00:46:22,225
a very short period of time. Or
tree nuts. Or even fruit. The
874
00:46:22,246 --> 00:46:25,012
fruit that exists today is way
more sugary than fruit that
875
00:46:25,032 --> 00:46:26,455
existed even a few hundred years
ago.
876
00:46:27,379 --> 00:46:29,647
Or things like the brassica
family vegetables the entire
877
00:46:29,707 --> 00:46:32,448
family of vegetables which has
only existed for a couple of
878
00:46:32,448 --> 00:46:36,431
hundred. Cheers. Right Some of
them are newer than that.
879
00:46:36,673 --> 00:46:39,878
Broccolis Cauliflower is
cabbages, et cetera, right?
880
00:46:40,255 --> 00:46:42,645
These are new foods. And if we,
I'm not saying we can't eat
881
00:46:42,645 --> 00:46:44,705
them, We should just be aware
that they are not.
882
00:46:45,972 --> 00:46:49,289
Appropriate food for humans.
Like I'm not saying your cat
883
00:46:49,369 --> 00:46:52,873
can't have a treat of something.
Good dog. Can't have a i don't
884
00:46:52,873 --> 00:46:57,310
know what dog treats are but
like You know, I knew a dog with
885
00:46:57,310 --> 00:46:59,681
like licking, you know even
chocolate pudding off the...
886
00:47:00,143 --> 00:47:02,422
Off the plates of his owners or
something like that. I'm not
887
00:47:02,442 --> 00:47:05,014
saying that's... Bad but If
you're going to do that to your
888
00:47:05,014 --> 00:47:07,527
dog, you should understand that
that's not an ancestrally
889
00:47:07,567 --> 00:47:09,011
appropriate diet and they may
get sick.
890
00:47:09,880 --> 00:47:11,436
And if you're going to do that
to yourself, you should
891
00:47:11,456 --> 00:47:13,623
understand that that's not an
ancestrally appropriate diet.
892
00:47:13,952 --> 00:47:16,126
And you may get sick. Now, in
humans, it's a little bit more
893
00:47:16,126 --> 00:47:18,713
complicated because We're all
trying to survive. Gracias Life
894
00:47:18,733 --> 00:47:21,769
is. Tough. You're living in New
York City, I believe, which is
895
00:47:21,749 --> 00:47:22,030
one of the...
896
00:47:23,393 --> 00:47:26,395
Busiest places in the world and
you know. High stress place,
897
00:47:26,435 --> 00:47:29,113
right? So if people get addicted
to carbohydrates and get
898
00:47:29,133 --> 00:47:32,748
addicted to sugar and want to
eat these things. Go for it. I'm
899
00:47:32,768 --> 00:47:34,859
not saying you can't do that,
but just be aware that you're
900
00:47:34,859 --> 00:47:36,366
treating it like a drug in that
case.
901
00:47:37,252 --> 00:47:39,018
Food is your drug. To get
through the day, which is
902
00:47:39,018 --> 00:47:41,802
totally fine. No judgment? I was
addicted to cigarettes for
903
00:47:41,823 --> 00:47:45,263
years. I do have the odd drink
and so on. So I'm nothing
904
00:47:45,303 --> 00:47:48,288
against drugs. You can use
drugs. But be aware of what
905
00:47:48,309 --> 00:47:48,553
you're doing.
906
00:47:49,677 --> 00:47:50,151
Make sense?
907
00:47:59,254 --> 00:48:00,949
I think I've lost you,
Gabrielle. Can you hear me?
908
00:48:06,548 --> 00:48:08,269
Sorry, I think I lost you for a
second. Can you hear me now?
909
00:48:08,924 --> 00:48:14,619
GENERIC: Yeah, yeah, I can hear
you. Yeah Yeah, yeah. So...
910
00:48:16,400 --> 00:48:17,326
So now what?
911
00:48:18,467 --> 00:48:26,145
So just to... Wind things down a
bit so now what it what is what
912
00:48:26,145 --> 00:48:30,270
is your recommendation what what
is your What do you want people
913
00:48:30,290 --> 00:48:31,802
to know about?
914
00:48:34,548 --> 00:48:36,766
Having an animal-based diet.
915
00:48:37,943 --> 00:48:39,506
SAMEER DOSSANI: I mean, I think
the first thing to say is that
916
00:48:40,047 --> 00:48:42,692
most of us, even those of us who
aren't vegetarian, most of us
917
00:48:42,792 --> 00:48:46,416
are eating plant-based diets.
And I think those come with
918
00:48:47,078 --> 00:48:49,365
potential side effects, and we
should all be aware of them. And
919
00:48:49,365 --> 00:48:52,227
sometimes you don't feel the
side effects at age. 20 or 30
920
00:48:52,371 --> 00:48:55,394
but by the time you get a bit
older, you should know what's
921
00:48:55,414 --> 00:48:55,835
going on.
922
00:48:56,357 --> 00:48:58,362
So point number one is that
we're all eating plant based
923
00:48:58,423 --> 00:49:01,411
diets and the diseases that
we're seeing in society are a
924
00:49:01,431 --> 00:49:03,546
result of the diets that we're
eating. Now we can say, okay,
925
00:49:03,546 --> 00:49:05,272
there's junk food and there's
other things in there, et
926
00:49:05,272 --> 00:49:09,635
cetera. Fair enough. But point
two is that. There's no evidence
927
00:49:09,655 --> 00:49:11,169
behind the plant-based
recommendations.
928
00:49:11,828 --> 00:49:14,272
Another problem that we have is
that you know, the bias that
929
00:49:14,292 --> 00:49:17,486
you. You had going into this
discussion. It's everyone's bias
930
00:49:17,506 --> 00:49:20,341
for a reason. It's what we've
been told since the 1970s, in
931
00:49:20,361 --> 00:49:22,488
fact. It's what the dietitians
have been saying since the
932
00:49:23,090 --> 00:49:26,499
1920s. And there's a reason for
that. And I don't need to go
933
00:49:26,560 --> 00:49:27,065
into it, but...
934
00:49:27,396 --> 00:49:30,517
The people who set up the modern
schools of nutrition. Were
935
00:49:30,640 --> 00:49:33,811
religiously motivated people.
Seventh-day Adventists. Who had
936
00:49:33,811 --> 00:49:36,538
an agenda pushing vegetarianism.
And the way that they chose to
937
00:49:36,538 --> 00:49:39,852
do that was to set up schools of
dietetics and so on. So just to
938
00:49:39,872 --> 00:49:42,484
say that there's no evidence
behind those. Guidelines.
939
00:49:42,484 --> 00:49:46,077
There's no evidence behind that.
Schools of nutrition at all.
940
00:49:47,519 --> 00:49:49,929
But they've been able to exert a
lot of power without the
941
00:49:49,949 --> 00:49:53,061
evidence. And number three is
that the default human diet is
942
00:49:53,061 --> 00:49:56,925
a... Very is a meat-based diet
And until we have evidence that
943
00:49:56,966 --> 00:50:00,096
some other diet is going to be
safe for us, we should assume
944
00:50:00,096 --> 00:50:02,800
that if we have any issues at
all, We should go back to the
945
00:50:02,800 --> 00:50:03,306
meat based diet.
946
00:50:03,680 --> 00:50:05,327
And at some point in our life,
all of us are going to have it.
947
00:50:05,351 --> 00:50:07,075
Problem Right now, the
statistics say that if you're
948
00:50:07,075 --> 00:50:10,110
born... In the year 2000 you
have a 50 chance of getting
949
00:50:10,130 --> 00:50:15,030
cancer by the time 50. 60.
Sorry. So, so it's, you know,
950
00:50:15,091 --> 00:50:17,335
all of us are. Heading down a
road.
951
00:50:19,341 --> 00:50:22,714
And we need to be aware that
when we... Come across. Health
952
00:50:22,735 --> 00:50:26,332
that is less than optimal when
we have any issues. We should
953
00:50:26,372 --> 00:50:28,857
revert to a default human diet,
which is going to be a
954
00:50:28,957 --> 00:50:30,688
meat-based, animal-based. All
right.
955
00:50:32,973 --> 00:50:33,685
GENERIC: And you're not.
956
00:50:35,040 --> 00:50:40,561
It's not you're not necessarily
advocating for 100 percent Me,
957
00:50:41,585 --> 00:50:43,674
you're still advocating a
balanced diet.
958
00:50:44,851 --> 00:50:46,855
SAMEER DOSSANI: No so i hate the
term balance dot i think it's i
959
00:50:46,835 --> 00:50:49,901
think it's really inappropriate
like if we look at If we look at
960
00:50:49,901 --> 00:50:52,472
what humans would have been
eating in the past, Again, it
961
00:50:52,452 --> 00:50:56,980
would have been like. Maybe you
get some. Some seasonal berries
962
00:50:56,980 --> 00:50:59,823
or something in the daytime or
some tubers or something But
963
00:51:00,024 --> 00:51:01,366
that's enough to get you through
the hunt.
964
00:51:01,486 --> 00:51:03,269
In the hunt, you kill an animal
and you're eating that animal
965
00:51:03,269 --> 00:51:05,670
for the next two or three days.
So I think this idea of balanced
966
00:51:05,690 --> 00:51:08,860
diet is super problematic. I
mean, but that said, I'm in
967
00:51:08,860 --> 00:51:10,726
favor of people eating how they
want to eat.
968
00:51:11,969 --> 00:51:14,509
And so. With that in mind, that
most people don't want to do a
969
00:51:14,529 --> 00:51:17,637
purely... Carnivorous diet. I
don't. Usually use that i do use
970
00:51:17,637 --> 00:51:20,677
it therapy to keep purposes.
People who have really damaged
971
00:51:20,677 --> 00:51:24,271
their gut. Usually through
veganism. So if someone's gut is
972
00:51:24,291 --> 00:51:27,574
super damaged, we need to go on
a... Purely carnivorous, not a
973
00:51:27,674 --> 00:51:30,346
gram of plant food. Thanks for
for a certain period of time.
974
00:51:30,935 --> 00:51:33,165
But then usually we try and
reintroduce plant foods because
975
00:51:33,205 --> 00:51:35,121
most people do want a little
bit. We're living in the real
976
00:51:35,161 --> 00:51:39,082
world. You know? My My daughter
is going to turn 15 in a couple
977
00:51:39,082 --> 00:51:40,956
of months. I want to have a
slice of birthday cake, you
978
00:51:40,956 --> 00:51:44,899
know? That's life. Right. So in
order to do that, my gut needs
979
00:51:44,919 --> 00:51:46,266
to be at a certain level of
healing.
980
00:51:47,517 --> 00:51:51,712
And I also need to be able to.
Tolerate a variety of foods. So
981
00:51:51,692 --> 00:51:54,624
I don't think I'll have cake
every day. But I will keep some
982
00:51:54,664 --> 00:51:57,329
plant foods in. You know, at
least a few times a week. So
983
00:51:57,349 --> 00:51:59,247
that I can tolerate plant foods
when I'm exposed to them.
984
00:52:00,744 --> 00:52:03,548
But you know so there's a
difference but if someone's as i
985
00:52:03,588 --> 00:52:06,186
mentioned super sick especially
with gut health then we would
986
00:52:06,206 --> 00:52:08,427
need to take the plant foods out
altogether. But in general, I
987
00:52:08,427 --> 00:52:10,870
don't advocate that. That's
true. It's not that I don't
988
00:52:10,870 --> 00:52:13,322
advocate it, it's just that I
don't need to use it clinically.
989
00:52:13,944 --> 00:52:16,943
In general, we can We can hit
the targets, we can fix you. We
990
00:52:16,923 --> 00:52:19,148
can fix your gut. We can fix
your autoimmune issues. We can
991
00:52:19,188 --> 00:52:22,786
fix your diabetes. We can help
you lose weight. Without go into
992
00:52:22,807 --> 00:52:25,850
a purely carnivorous diet unless
you want to. In general, we can
993
00:52:25,970 --> 00:52:27,135
use other methods to get there.
994
00:52:29,064 --> 00:52:31,997
GENERIC: Okay, so it depends on
the individual and it depends
995
00:52:31,997 --> 00:52:38,818
on... Ph. Balance and How much?
How much meat can they tolerate?
996
00:52:39,596 --> 00:52:41,014
How can their bodies tolerate?
997
00:52:43,603 --> 00:52:44,907
SAMEER DOSSANI: Well, it's not
about how much meat can our
998
00:52:44,907 --> 00:52:46,993
bodies tolerate, because I think
all of us could. Can live on a
999
00:52:47,013 --> 00:52:49,021
purely carnivorous, nearly all
of us can live on a purely
1000
00:52:49,061 --> 00:52:51,391
carnivorous diet if we wanted
to, but it's more about what do
1001
00:52:51,391 --> 00:52:54,365
you want to do? What do you need
in order to be able to heal? So
1002
00:52:54,365 --> 00:52:55,132
if someone's coming to me...
1003
00:52:55,599 --> 00:52:58,695
For example, I have a bit of
luck. So the autoimmune disease.
1004
00:52:58,755 --> 00:53:01,677
Disease that I have is called
vitiligo. This whole arm was
1005
00:53:01,758 --> 00:53:04,754
pretty much white. Now there's
just a couple of spots here. Oh,
1006
00:53:04,754 --> 00:53:07,712
at the moment it's showing up
okay. But, You know, if I'm
1007
00:53:07,733 --> 00:53:09,222
walking down the street, no one
can tell.
1008
00:53:09,753 --> 00:53:14,555
I have a lot of. Right I got rid
of it. Yeah, I did use a purely
1009
00:53:14,595 --> 00:53:17,063
carnivorous diet. But that was
like a month long experiment.
1010
00:53:17,910 --> 00:53:20,800
I've gotten rid of this. Mostly
through just increasing the
1011
00:53:20,800 --> 00:53:22,813
amount of meat that I eat and
reducing. Carbohydrates.
1012
00:53:23,532 --> 00:53:26,379
Spending time in ketosis and so
on. With a variety of
1013
00:53:26,379 --> 00:53:26,982
strategies.
1014
00:53:28,366 --> 00:53:31,847
But. You know, you can reverse
autoimmune. Without going to
1015
00:53:31,847 --> 00:53:35,414
your car. Sure maybe it'll help
going through. But you don't
1016
00:53:35,494 --> 00:53:36,549
need to if you don't want to.
To.
1017
00:53:38,796 --> 00:53:41,902
GENERIC: So I guess, I'm still
trying to wrap my head around
1018
00:53:42,203 --> 00:53:45,557
this. So... Pure carnivore, what
do you mean by that?
1019
00:53:46,520 --> 00:53:48,804
SAMEER DOSSANI: So there's
there's a, you know, You're
1020
00:53:48,804 --> 00:53:50,749
obviously not in the same
Facebook group as I am. So
1021
00:53:52,233 --> 00:53:56,182
there's a growing number of
people. I call them kind of the
1022
00:53:56,202 --> 00:53:57,166
carnivore cultists.
1023
00:53:58,512 --> 00:54:02,024
Who and I don't. I mean, it's,
it's. Thank I was sort of one of
1024
00:54:02,024 --> 00:54:04,930
them so i don't mean to be
disparaging like i i understand
1025
00:54:04,930 --> 00:54:07,046
what they're doing But for me,
it shouldn't be a religion.
1026
00:54:07,147 --> 00:54:10,374
Right. So there are people who
like. You know, All I eat is
1027
00:54:10,414 --> 00:54:13,484
beef and water. If you eat
anything else, you're out of the
1028
00:54:13,504 --> 00:54:14,429
club. Yep.
1029
00:54:14,876 --> 00:54:16,886
Did it wrong you don't know what
you're doing they're exactly the
1030
00:54:17,047 --> 00:54:21,416
the mirror of vegans right What
I'm saying is all you want to
1031
00:54:21,436 --> 00:54:24,505
have is beef and water and
associated fat. Go for it. Knock
1032
00:54:24,505 --> 00:54:28,920
yourself out. I don't care. But
That's... Small, tiny minority
1033
00:54:28,940 --> 00:54:32,801
of people on this planet. And I
am here to help. I don't know if
1034
00:54:32,781 --> 00:54:35,276
I can help the majority. That's
a bit ambitious. But I'm here to
1035
00:54:35,316 --> 00:54:36,061
help anyone who.
1036
00:54:36,575 --> 00:54:39,064
Anyone who wants to anyone who
wants help with a variety of
1037
00:54:39,084 --> 00:54:41,091
strategies you don't have to if
you come to me and you don't
1038
00:54:41,091 --> 00:54:44,464
want to be a pure carnivore I'm
still going to help you. In
1039
00:54:44,464 --> 00:54:46,151
fact, if you come to me and you
want to stay vegan, I'm still
1040
00:54:46,151 --> 00:54:47,717
going to try to help you, but
I'm going to warn you that it's
1041
00:54:47,717 --> 00:54:49,288
going to be difficult. Right.
1042
00:54:50,849 --> 00:54:54,287
And most people. You know,
they'll eventually they'll
1043
00:54:54,308 --> 00:54:56,502
introduce some animal foods at
some point in working with me.
1044
00:54:59,937 --> 00:55:03,608
GENERIC: So, I mean, yeah, so
there's the... The extremes
1045
00:55:03,689 --> 00:55:07,919
right you have the vegans, which
is... One end and then you have
1046
00:55:07,939 --> 00:55:12,914
the pure carnivores in the in
the other end right so i'm just
1047
00:55:12,954 --> 00:55:18,899
i guess your goal in terms of
What do you want your clients to
1048
00:55:18,919 --> 00:55:21,226
achieve? What do you help your
clients to achieve is to be
1049
00:55:21,306 --> 00:55:24,416
somewhere in the middle. Not
really be in the extremes.
1050
00:55:24,966 --> 00:55:28,215
SAMEER DOSSANI: Most clients
want that. And most clients are
1051
00:55:28,215 --> 00:55:30,087
fine with that. There are
people, for example, people with
1052
00:55:30,127 --> 00:55:33,317
eating disorders. With a history
of eating disorders, who we find
1053
00:55:33,337 --> 00:55:35,918
that actually a purely
carnivorous approach tends to
1054
00:55:36,886 --> 00:55:37,939
tends to be really beneficial.
1055
00:55:39,449 --> 00:55:41,656
You know, People say, well,
that's another reading disorder.
1056
00:55:41,696 --> 00:55:44,817
I disagree. Because as I said,
because I think this is the
1057
00:55:44,817 --> 00:55:47,183
default human diet. So what we
find with people with a history
1058
00:55:47,183 --> 00:55:49,713
of eating disorders, So.
Sometimes we'll put them on a
1059
00:55:49,753 --> 00:55:52,358
purely carnivorous diet and
they, for the first time, in
1060
00:55:52,358 --> 00:55:52,971
their lives.
1061
00:55:54,901 --> 00:55:56,857
They don't have a strenuous
relationship with food.
1062
00:55:58,514 --> 00:56:00,908
So that, you know, there's a
power in pure carnivore that I
1063
00:56:00,908 --> 00:56:01,592
don't want to deny.
1064
00:56:02,751 --> 00:56:05,384
But most people don't want that.
Most people want to be able to
1065
00:56:05,404 --> 00:56:08,101
have a slice of birthday cake at
their daughter's. Birthday or
1066
00:56:08,101 --> 00:56:12,398
whatever. Right. And so that's
why. The versions of the diets
1067
00:56:12,419 --> 00:56:16,144
that I tend to use. Keep some
plant foods in. And are a little
1068
00:56:16,164 --> 00:56:19,580
bit a little bit more flexible.
Now it's difficult because plant
1069
00:56:19,621 --> 00:56:20,951
foods, it's like a person by
person.
1070
00:56:21,821 --> 00:56:25,993
Case if someone is presenting
with type 2 diabetes and you
1071
00:56:25,993 --> 00:56:27,979
know, then what plant foods do
we keep in? Well, we can't
1072
00:56:28,019 --> 00:56:31,643
really keep the the fruits in it
all. Like even probably
1073
00:56:31,805 --> 00:56:34,822
blueberries have too much sugar.
So we need to take the fruits
1074
00:56:34,822 --> 00:56:37,207
out altogether. Together. If
someone is presenting with
1075
00:56:37,207 --> 00:56:39,640
thyroid issues, then do I want
to give them fermented cabbage?
1076
00:56:39,821 --> 00:56:43,798
In in in kimchi Maybe not. You
know Maybe we'll try and find
1077
00:56:43,838 --> 00:56:47,299
something else. That they can
tolerate better. So, you know,
1078
00:56:47,501 --> 00:56:50,567
the meat is like anyone can. Can
have More meat. There's no
1079
00:56:50,587 --> 00:56:53,331
problem with that. Plant foods,
it becomes a very complicated
1080
00:56:53,372 --> 00:56:55,793
discussion. What plant foods can
we keep in? What do we take out?
1081
00:56:56,309 --> 00:57:00,570
You know, you mentioned Beans,
beans have lectin. Lectins The
1082
00:57:00,590 --> 00:57:03,437
most famous lectin is gluten.
But all plants have lectins.
1083
00:57:03,437 --> 00:57:07,160
Thanks. And lectins bind with
certain... With certain
1084
00:57:07,221 --> 00:57:10,714
minerals. And Peace You know,
the problem in our diets is. We
1085
00:57:10,734 --> 00:57:13,451
tend to have the same plant
foods again and again. Those
1086
00:57:13,451 --> 00:57:15,168
plant foods are binding with the
same minerals.
1087
00:57:15,501 --> 00:57:17,449
We have people who are showing
up with massive iron
1088
00:57:17,490 --> 00:57:21,647
deficiencies. Massive calcium
deficiencies massive Things you
1089
00:57:21,647 --> 00:57:23,760
wouldn't think of, copper
deficiencies. Copper is a...
1090
00:57:24,362 --> 00:57:26,605
Microdutrient that you need in
really, really small quantities.
1091
00:57:26,605 --> 00:57:29,493
Thanks. But if someone hasn't
eaten, for example, beef in
1092
00:57:29,554 --> 00:57:31,264
years, beef is a very good
source of copper.
1093
00:57:33,243 --> 00:57:36,912
Or or same right you know,
Copper and Sync are together in
1094
00:57:36,912 --> 00:57:39,842
tandem. So if someone is having
too much zinc, then they can
1095
00:57:39,842 --> 00:57:41,910
have a copper deficiency. If
someone is having too much
1096
00:57:41,970 --> 00:57:44,399
copper, they can have zinc
deficiency. These are really
1097
00:57:44,440 --> 00:57:45,046
complicated.
1098
00:57:46,187 --> 00:57:49,246
Discussions? And the problem I
have with the plant foods is
1099
00:57:49,825 --> 00:57:53,355
Again. They're all causing some
kind of imbalance. We'll unless
1100
00:57:53,376 --> 00:57:56,441
they're fermented. So ideally,
if you want to formulate a
1101
00:57:56,441 --> 00:57:58,749
vegetarian diet that's healthy,
you need to be eating different
1102
00:57:58,769 --> 00:57:59,773
foods like every day of the
week.
1103
00:58:00,618 --> 00:58:03,549
Need to really be mixing it up.
But that's not possible in the
1104
00:58:03,549 --> 00:58:08,227
modern food environments for
most of us. So That's why we
1105
00:58:08,247 --> 00:58:10,680
tend to say if you want to stay
healthy. One of the probably
1106
00:58:10,720 --> 00:58:13,178
want to try that. Thanks for
the. Vegetable based, the plant
1107
00:58:13,198 --> 00:58:13,783
based diets.
1108
00:58:15,506 --> 00:58:17,455
GENERIC: So I think you are.
1109
00:58:20,570 --> 00:58:23,540
I'm having an internal battle
listening to you talk. But.
1110
00:58:25,539 --> 00:58:31,755
I think you are. Bringing light
to the The Dark Side of veganism
1111
00:58:31,796 --> 00:58:35,752
and vegetarianism is that you
are You are.
1112
00:58:38,336 --> 00:58:42,172
Boom. You're not getting enough
protein that your body needs and
1113
00:58:42,172 --> 00:58:44,697
you're not getting enough
nutrients that your body needs.
1114
00:58:47,651 --> 00:58:48,500
And it's...
1115
00:58:49,853 --> 00:58:53,654
And it's as humans, like we need
to. Consume more.
1116
00:58:54,908 --> 00:58:58,334
Naturally so it it does
highlight the dark side of.
1117
00:58:59,923 --> 00:59:06,880
Of having a plant-based diet and
you are and and it does lead to
1118
00:59:07,021 --> 00:59:10,328
diseases when you're not getting
enough nutrients and you know
1119
00:59:10,409 --> 00:59:12,954
you're not Thank getting what
you're, you know, you're not
1120
00:59:12,994 --> 00:59:19,079
getting. That sustenance But I
think we also have to
1121
00:59:19,100 --> 00:59:20,044
acknowledge that.
1122
00:59:21,610 --> 00:59:26,097
The same thing can go from just
eating just purely meat like you
1123
00:59:26,138 --> 00:59:30,505
could still That might be too.
Your body can be oversaturated
1124
00:59:30,545 --> 00:59:31,288
with nutrients.
1125
00:59:33,057 --> 00:59:34,621
SAMEER DOSSANI: So I don't think
that's the case.
1126
00:59:36,498 --> 00:59:38,690
Yeah, I mean, you have to give
me a very specific example. The
1127
00:59:38,791 --> 00:59:42,289
only example I know of in
history in nature of So we're.
1128
00:59:42,493 --> 00:59:45,971
You know, in the human record of
someone poisoning themselves
1129
00:59:46,011 --> 00:59:47,956
with animal foods. I'm not
talking about food poisoning or
1130
00:59:47,956 --> 00:59:49,882
something. Food poisoning can
happen with anything. The
1131
00:59:49,922 --> 00:59:52,333
biggest cause of food poisoning
in the United States is salad.
1132
00:59:52,455 --> 00:59:54,250
Bye. Some huge factor, I think.
1133
00:59:55,386 --> 00:59:57,521
So forget about food poisoning,
that's a different discussion.
1134
00:59:58,110 --> 01:00:00,699
But the only case was someone
who accidentally or who ate
1135
01:00:00,739 --> 01:00:04,791
polar bear liver. Polar bear
liver has... Something like
1136
01:00:04,851 --> 01:00:08,056
5,000 or. 500,000. I'm not going
to get the number right, but...
1137
01:00:08,379 --> 01:00:09,518
Has a huge amount of vitamin A.
1138
01:00:10,078 --> 01:00:12,268
So you can get vitamin A
toxicity from eating polar bear
1139
01:00:12,308 --> 01:00:14,437
liver, but most of us are not
going around eating polar bear
1140
01:00:14,497 --> 01:00:18,422
liver. Even the Inuit who eat
polar bear They don't eat the
1141
01:00:18,442 --> 01:00:23,697
liver. So. I don't know that
this is, you know, you i i work
1142
01:00:23,717 --> 01:00:26,933
in facts you know i work in
concrete stuff So if you give me
1143
01:00:27,073 --> 01:00:29,965
a case of someone who's poisoned
themselves by eating pound and a
1144
01:00:29,985 --> 01:00:30,509
half of meat.
1145
01:00:30,652 --> 01:00:34,012
Day The other thing with meat is
that it... Unlike the
1146
01:00:34,053 --> 01:00:37,900
hyper-processed palatable junk
foods out there. Where they say,
1147
01:00:38,206 --> 01:00:40,110
Bet you can't eat one. Well,
they've designed it so that it's
1148
01:00:40,110 --> 01:00:42,123
super addictive and you won't be
able to eat just one. You'll You
1149
01:00:42,123 --> 01:00:44,133
won't be able to eat just one
bag. You'd eat as many bags
1150
01:00:44,153 --> 01:00:46,624
as... With the the chips as they
are in the house, right?
1151
01:00:46,998 --> 01:00:48,469
Because that's how it's
designed. It's designed to be
1152
01:00:48,489 --> 01:00:52,145
super addictive. Meat has
satiety mechanisms associated.
1153
01:00:53,010 --> 01:00:55,886
So if I eat a pound of meat, I
can't have any more. You go to
1154
01:00:55,886 --> 01:00:58,623
the Chinese takeaway or
whatever. You have. All the
1155
01:00:58,643 --> 01:01:01,745
spare ribs you can eat. You
can't have any more. But then
1156
01:01:01,826 --> 01:01:03,214
suddenly someone says, how about
dessert?
1157
01:01:03,214 --> 01:01:05,741
And you say, oh yeah, I can have
dessert. Because dessert is that
1158
01:01:05,781 --> 01:01:08,657
hyper palatable junk. Again. But
you can't have more meat than...
1159
01:01:08,921 --> 01:01:11,304
And Once you're. Once your
body's full, there's a tidy
1160
01:01:11,344 --> 01:01:15,080
mechanism. Kick in because
that's proper human food humans
1161
01:01:15,080 --> 01:01:16,951
are supposed to eat until
they're full and then not eat
1162
01:01:16,991 --> 01:01:21,269
anymore so it To answer your
question, is there a problem
1163
01:01:21,309 --> 01:01:22,217
associated with too much meat?
1164
01:01:22,460 --> 01:01:25,932
I think the answer is no. Now,
if I play devil's advocate, the
1165
01:01:25,972 --> 01:01:29,500
only problem that people...
Claim to see. Is that you're
1166
01:01:29,520 --> 01:01:32,076
eating more saturated fat,
especially people who eat dairy.
1167
01:01:32,157 --> 01:01:35,118
Dairy is the biggest source of
saturated fat. Bye. By the good
1168
01:01:35,159 --> 01:01:37,256
measure. And saturated fat.
1169
01:01:38,612 --> 01:01:41,975
By some estimates, Very bad
estimates, in my opinion. Is
1170
01:01:41,995 --> 01:01:43,905
associated with heart disease.
1171
01:01:45,406 --> 01:01:48,133
So. I mean, this is a whole
other discussion.
1172
01:01:49,342 --> 01:01:51,395
But again, I mean, I can just
give you my own example.
1173
01:01:52,555 --> 01:01:55,427
I do eat dairy. I do eat a lot
of saturated fat. Ldl,
1174
01:01:55,488 --> 01:01:59,210
cholesterol. Through the roof. I
have LDL cholesterol around 400
1175
01:01:59,210 --> 01:02:03,570
or so on. I had high. Ldl
cholesterol, even when I was LDL
1176
01:02:03,590 --> 01:02:05,637
cholesterol is a misnomer,
actually. Which is A. I don't
1177
01:02:05,657 --> 01:02:08,617
know how scientifically. Point
again LDL is a lipoprotein that
1178
01:02:08,637 --> 01:02:11,432
carries cholesterol around the
body. Body LDL it. Cholesterol
1179
01:02:11,452 --> 01:02:13,837
is necessary for life. I mean,
This is just the very basic
1180
01:02:13,898 --> 01:02:14,141
stuff.
1181
01:02:15,398 --> 01:02:18,406
When my doctors, when I go to
see a new doctor, I say, hi, my
1182
01:02:18,426 --> 01:02:20,872
name is Samir and I have an LDL
of 400. That's how I introduce
1183
01:02:20,892 --> 01:02:23,950
myself as if I'm an alcoholic.
Great. And then I then the
1184
01:02:23,970 --> 01:02:25,738
doctor says, OK, have you
thought about that sentence?
1185
01:02:25,758 --> 01:02:27,866
I said, I want to take that
because statins are associated
1186
01:02:27,866 --> 01:02:30,370
with diabetes. Diabetes give us
all the problems that I
1187
01:02:30,370 --> 01:02:34,325
mentioned, cancer, dementia.
Heart disease, etc. And one
1188
01:02:34,345 --> 01:02:36,297
doctor said look why don't you
go and at least get tested now
1189
01:02:36,357 --> 01:02:39,313
i've had an ldl in the Between
400 and say 600.
1190
01:02:41,513 --> 01:02:45,195
Six to seven years. Okay. Since
I first started doing this. So
1191
01:02:45,195 --> 01:02:47,120
you would think, and before that
it was high. And by the way, I
1192
01:02:47,201 --> 01:02:49,106
used to smoke cigarettes as
well. So you'd think I'd be in a
1193
01:02:49,126 --> 01:02:53,110
very high risk category. What
Artism. Thanks So I got myself
1194
01:02:53,151 --> 01:02:55,585
checked. I got what's called a
coronary artery calcium score.
1195
01:02:56,243 --> 01:02:59,249
This measures the amount of
carc- calcified plaque in the
1196
01:02:59,249 --> 01:03:02,239
heart. Good. And My score was
zero.
1197
01:03:03,488 --> 01:03:07,791
Now, I'm in. 47 years old. A
third of... Men my age have a
1198
01:03:07,811 --> 01:03:10,771
positive score, they have a
non-zero score. Right. Zero
1199
01:03:10,853 --> 01:03:13,813
scores is basically meant to
think meant to be the jurors.
1200
01:03:13,915 --> 01:03:16,614
Pretty much bulletproof. Heart
disease right Nothing's going to
1201
01:03:16,614 --> 01:03:18,188
happen to you for at least five
years other than you need to
1202
01:03:18,208 --> 01:03:19,660
get. Retest it. Right.
1203
01:03:21,066 --> 01:03:23,730
I mean, just to say that the
whole I won't go into the whole
1204
01:03:23,730 --> 01:03:25,513
science of the cholesterol
debate right here, but just to
1205
01:03:25,533 --> 01:03:25,814
say that.
1206
01:03:27,231 --> 01:03:31,170
The cholesterol discussion. Was
founded on some pretty shoddy
1207
01:03:31,250 --> 01:03:34,781
science. Back in the 1950s. And
there's data coming out. In
1208
01:03:34,781 --> 01:03:37,451
fact, there's data coming out
next week, December 8th. Which
1209
01:03:37,451 --> 01:03:38,256
will be a huge.
1210
01:03:39,792 --> 01:03:43,442
Step forward in understanding
how LDL is not necessarily
1211
01:03:43,482 --> 01:03:45,774
associated. Associated with
heart disease, especially in
1212
01:03:45,774 --> 01:03:47,472
people consuming. Mostly me
tired.
1213
01:03:49,838 --> 01:03:50,224
GENERIC: Yeah.
1214
01:03:51,807 --> 01:03:55,188
Well, this is a very complex
issue and. Unfortunately we
1215
01:03:55,208 --> 01:04:01,175
gotta wrap this up but it's very
complex and There's a lot of
1216
01:04:01,175 --> 01:04:04,411
different sides here, and we
didn't even get into... The
1217
01:04:04,472 --> 01:04:08,873
controversy of... You know You
know, people don't like eating
1218
01:04:09,034 --> 01:04:13,227
cute animals, you know, so. We
didn't even get into the. The
1219
01:04:13,267 --> 01:04:14,521
controversy of that. But.
1220
01:04:15,721 --> 01:04:16,714
So But...
1221
01:04:25,770 --> 01:04:27,196
SAMEER DOSSANI: I think I lost
you again, Gabrielle. Can you
1222
01:04:27,196 --> 01:04:27,437
hear me?
1223
01:04:44,075 --> 01:04:44,402
GENERIC: So much.
1224
01:04:47,431 --> 01:04:50,065
SAMEER DOSSANI: Yeah, now you're
muted. I'll be back. Yeah, go
1225
01:04:50,187 --> 01:04:50,940
ahead.
1226
01:04:51,148 --> 01:04:54,843
GENERIC: Bye. Keep freezing
Thank All right. So I like to
1227
01:04:54,903 --> 01:04:57,066
ask my guests. Words of wisdom.
1228
01:04:58,619 --> 01:05:00,448
Do you have any words of wisdom
you'd like to share with our
1229
01:05:00,468 --> 01:05:00,849
audience?
1230
01:05:02,434 --> 01:05:03,859
SAMEER DOSSANI: Yeah, no, I
think we've been through most of
1231
01:05:03,859 --> 01:05:09,206
it. I mean, I think valuing your
health is really important. And
1232
01:05:09,186 --> 01:05:11,534
I think at the end of the day,
it's all we have. I look at my
1233
01:05:11,634 --> 01:05:12,737
friends who have...
1234
01:05:13,750 --> 01:05:16,823
Thank lost their health even for
a short period of time. And
1235
01:05:16,864 --> 01:05:19,388
everything else. Goes by the
wayside of your creative
1236
01:05:19,408 --> 01:05:22,592
projects, your relationships.
Nothing else matters if you
1237
01:05:22,592 --> 01:05:25,195
don't have your health. We just
encourage all your listeners
1238
01:05:25,255 --> 01:05:25,376
to...
1239
01:05:26,791 --> 01:05:30,048
To make decisions that they
think are healthy. And if those
1240
01:05:30,069 --> 01:05:32,100
decisions are not serving their
health. Then of course there
1241
01:05:32,242 --> 01:05:35,057
They're welcome to. Reach out to
me or another health coach who
1242
01:05:35,057 --> 01:05:38,715
can help them. Find a path to
health at best health. That best
1243
01:05:38,776 --> 01:05:39,267
suits them.
1244
01:05:42,119 --> 01:05:44,937
GENERIC: That's wonderful. Well,
Samira, thank you so much for
1245
01:05:44,997 --> 01:05:48,530
coming on Hot Topics and thank
you for coming back. On my show
1246
01:05:48,670 --> 01:05:50,017
i appreciate you being here.
1247
01:05:51,042 --> 01:05:52,478
SAMEER DOSSANI: Thank No, it's
only a pleasure, Gabrielle.
1248
01:05:52,498 --> 01:05:53,044
Thanks so much.
1249
01:05:53,979 --> 01:05:56,901
GENERIC: All right. So here's
the opportunity to promote.
1250
01:05:57,063 --> 01:06:00,059
Promote your services, promote
your business. Leave. Promote
1251
01:06:00,059 --> 01:06:00,244
away.
1252
01:06:01,510 --> 01:06:03,956
SAMEER DOSSANI: So I'm at Samir
Dasani.net. At the moment, I'm
1253
