ОБ ЭТОМ ЭПИЗОДЕ
Join us on this thrilling episode of FNI Wrapchat as host Paul Webster sits down with acclaimed documentary filmmaker Ross Whitaker to delve into one of the most fascinating tales of mathematical cunning and communal effort in Irish history. Ross takes us behind the scenes of his gripping documentary, "Beat the Lotto," which chronicles the audacious attempt by Stefan Klincewicz and his syndicate to outsmart the Irish National Lottery.
In 1992, with the jackpot at a staggering £1.7 million, Klincewicz, a Cork-born accountant of Polish descent, devised a plan that was both simple and audacious. By harnessing the power of mathematical analysis and forming a syndicate, they attempted to purchase every possible number combination. Ross shares the incredible story of how Klincewicz and his team of 100 associates, described as a crowd of reprobates, managed to buy 80% of the available combinations, turning a national pastime into a nail-biting heist.
Ross also discusses the cultural impact of the event, exploring how this bold strategy, teetering on the edge of legality, captured the imagination of a nation and changed the rules of the game forever. Tune in to hear about the meticulous planning, the scale of the operation, and the rollicking adventure that ensued.
