ОБ ЭТОМ ЭПИЗОДЕ
Discover the launch of Soundscape for Android by the Scottish Tech Army — a free, community-driven navigation app designed to empower blind and partially sighted users with 3D audio mapping, offline maps, and local search.
Steven Scott and Shaun Preece share exciting updates on accessible tech projects, including new apps developed by blind and visually impaired creators. The highlight: Soundscape, once a Microsoft app, now lives on Android thanks to the Scottish Tech Army and Double Tap’s support. Developer Dave Craig and STA’s Kirsty McIntosh explain how volunteers brought the app to life, why Android support matters globally, and how new features like offline maps, local search, and improved house number support open doors for users in regions with expensive or unreliable internet.
Other segments feature innovative community-built tools like Earshot, a podcast app by Michael Babcock; Quick Mail, a keyboard-first Windows email client by Kelly Ford; and Sensor Readout, an accessibility-first hardware monitoring tool by André Louis. Steven also announces Double Tap’s own NVDA Item Chooser add-on on GitHub.
