ОБ ЭТОМ ЭПИЗОДЕ
Herb Baumeister looked like the American dream: a respectable Indianapolis businessman, a married father of three, the owner of a successful chain of thrift stores, and the master of a beautiful eighteen-acre estate called Fox Hollow Farm. He was also one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. Beneath the surface, Baumeister was luring young men from the gay bars of Indianapolis to his property and murdering them, burying their remains across the grounds where his own children played. The truth only began to surface when his thirteen-year-old son found a human skull in the woods, and when a man who had narrowly survived him refused to stay silent. By the time police searched the estate, they would recover around ten thousand fragments of human bone. In this episode of Crime at Bedtime, we tell the full story: the double life, the victims who were overlooked for too long, the wife and family living on top of a killing field, and the extraordinary effort, still going on today, to give each of the dead back their name. Settle in, get comfortable, and let us tell you the story of the double life.
