Sawyer Haber: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome back to another episode of Celly Central. I'm your host, BG Sawyer, as we all know. Just me flying solo per usual. Happy last week of August. College football is starting this week. Pretty hyped about that. three dates I just want to talk about real quick before we get in the episode. Saturday, August 29th, Foda State opens up against New Mexico State. At home. And then Sunday, August 30th at 6 p.m. is the NFL cut down to the 53-man roster. And then lastly, September 16th, that is a Wednesday, is the final day for people to sign eight-year extensions in the National Hockey League. Without further ado, let's get into part one of today's episode of the New York J-E-T-S. Jets, Jets, Jets. Jets played their second preseason game. They beat the Steelers 17-0. Again, I know it's preseason, just want to talk about it. Gino Smith was perfect. He went seven for seven, sixty-five yards, one touchdown. 10 play, 69 yard opening drive that ate five minutes and 50, 5 minutes and 56 seconds of clock time. capped with a 13 yard touchdown to Woods. A beautiful little fake to Braylon Allen. And as we know, Gino found Woods in the end zone. he spread it to six different wide six different players on that drive. this was the Jets first game action of any kind since the twenty sixteen ACL tear. as we know, he was held out Gino week one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was hurt. Aaron Glenn said it was a very efficient drive and said Gino looks very comfortable. Excited to see what he does come opening day in Tennessee. Kid Klubnick. Klubnick took over for the second half. He wanted to get the kids some playing time. nothing too crazy. He got sacked twice over an eight play possession. And he also set up a fifty-six yard field goal attempt, which unfortunately went wide right. Billy Zappe came in, as we know. He went six for eight in week one, sixty-eight yards, and then he ended up leading a scoring drive in which Sanders kicked the field goal to give the Jets a ten zero lead, two different interceptions. pretty nice both off Sayers quarterback, Will Howard, Andre Cisco and Samuel Womback the third, both got picks. I know it's preseason, but the vibes are high on this team. Jets rookie edge David Bailey also recorded his first sack of preseason. Really hyped about that. And then Chase Wilson sacked Drew Aller to hold Pittsburgh to a forty-four yard field goal, which again went wide. both QB1 and QB two looked great. I really hope it's a Gino vs Klubnik for that starting position at some point. And Sanders looks really solid as a kicker for the Jets. As we know, like I mentioned, Sunday, August 30th is a 53-man deadline. The Jets final preseason game is a MetLife versus the New York Giants. So really excited to see that. as we know, Brees Hall is still out. would really like to see him come back for the regular season, but hopefully he has a nice nice recovery. Omar Cooper Jr. as of right now is fighting for his wide receiver three position versus Isaiah Williams. Would really like to see Omar Cooper Jr. beat him out, especially in the final preseason game. like I mentioned, Sunday, September 13th at Tennessee, Robert Salah with Brian Daboll as his OC, Salah as the head coach. And Cam Ward in year two. The Titans are coming off a 3-14 season from last year. Then they open up week two, September 20th against Green Bay. Year two under Aaron Glenn. He essentially overhauled everybody and hired Frank Reich to run the offense. no primetime games as we know this season because the Jets are shit. Every kickoff is 1 p.m. Except we got two West Coast starts at
4:05. Week eleven against the Los Angeles Chargers and week fifteen against Arizona. Would really like to see what happens there. And then, of course, as we know, moving on to FSU Florida State Football. They open up week zero against New Mexico State at home. the Nolls are on national TV before everyone else plays. They open up their actual season September seventh against against SMU. Then September nineteenth, they're at Bama. Then September 26th, they play Central Arkansas. Then Saturday, October 3rd, they play Virginia. And then October 9th, they're at Louisville. September, I'm sorry, October 17th, they're at Miami. Halloween, they are home against Clemson. September 7th, they are at Boston College. Friday, November 13th at Pitt. And lastly, they play November 21st at NC State. And To end off Rivalry Week, they play Florida Black Friday, November 27th. They are home for that. Mike Norvell is entering his seven his year seven off back-to-back losing seasons, going two and ten in twenty twenty-four, and as we know, five and seven in twenty twenty-five. So it should be really interesting to see what happens there. There are QB, Ashton Daniels, fifth-year senior transfer, third straight season with a new starter under center. Robello says he's impressed with Daniel's mindset and edge. We'll see if he could have a special year. Daniel's in question. He's reliable, short to intermediate, but the deep ball is a problem. He went five of 16 on deep throws last season and a 29% on passes over 20 yards for his career. Career, sorry, not And then wide receiver Duce Robinson is coming off a 1,000 yard breakout. Would really like to see him, you know, do well alongside Daniels. Hopefully there'll be a one-two punch tandem. So talking about football, we're now gonna transition to hockey. So as we found out, Joe Sakic said on Sunday that he's pretty confident that Cale Makar sign an extension before the season starts. Makar twenty seven in his final year of a six year deal at nine million AAV. He's a UFA next July. He could be the first player in NHL history to get twenty million annual value, but we'll see. Like I mentioned, September 16th is the cutoff for players who sign an eight year max term. Sakic he's not worried about it. Both sides are comfortable with the term, whatever's agreed upon it. As we know, Colorado moved Nichushkin to Columbus for picks to clip 6.125 million AAV for the next four years. He's out in Columbus. And also, just for context, Bowen Bryam who was once a Colorado Avalanche player. Signed a six-year $75 million contract with the Blackhawks at an annual value of $12.5 million. Nikita Kucherov reigning heart, aka the reigning MVP of the NHL, 130 points this year, 44 goals, 86 assists at 33, including a stretch of 107 points in 53 games last year. He's entering his final year of an eight-year deal at 9.5 million, one of the best bargains in the entire league. general manager said that his extension remains a top priority and that they have had chats with their agent. So no pressing deadline right now. But if he were not to re-sign the three UFAs, if Makar doesn't re-sign as well, would be Makar, Kucherov and Quinn Hughes would be the three big fishes. Moving on to Ottawa. Ottawa has had an impasse with Drake Batterson. Drake Batherson wants around 10 million AAV, eight years, roughly 80 million. He must sign by September 15th, like I said, for the eight-year. Extension. he also is coming off a 71 point in 79 games played, 26 goals. And really interesting to see what he's able to do. Drake Batherson and Ottawa. I'd like to see Ottawa re-sign him because he is one of the biggest pieces of that future. Next up, Commissioner Bill Daly, deputy commissioner, I should say, said we're moving forward in Texas. There's a possibility that Houston and Austin could be the move by the end of this calendar season. We'll see. Dan Friedkin's group has already agreed to a two billion dollar expansion fee, petting arena and board of governors approval. Team could debut within the next three years. And also a 34th team as well was also in discussion about possibly bringing them back to Phoenix or Atlanta, projecting a 29 to 2030 start would would make the NHL the first North American major league past 32 franchises. As we know, the NHL is going international. Munich and Cologne will host regular season games in the twenty seven, twenty-eight season. First ever time in Germany. Boston plays two in Munich. As we know, JJ Peterka's is German, and Edmonton plays two in Draisaitl's Cologne. And they also have a first, it's a first of a kind multi-year partnership with FC Bayern Just want to talk about the trade market and rumor mill. As we know, only five trades have happened since July 2nd. All minor league players would like to see something happen before the season starts September 29th. As we know, the Buffalo Sabres were in talk with the Winnipeg Jets about possibly getting the American Dream, aka Hellebuyck: But one of the returns that I know Buffalo isn't very keen on would be Ryan McLeod, plus a secondary piece and probably defenseman Radim Mrtka Next, Dylan Larkin. That trade is still, as we know, still surfacing. The troll leads the league with about 19.6 million in cap space. Could have 40 plus million come next year. And then offer sheet. one of the big fishes still out there is Adam Fantilli And as we know, Adam Fantilli could possibly be offer sheeted because he has not signed yet. Rumor has it, I don't believe it's really true, but the Philadelphia Flyers and the Detroit Red Wings are places that Connor McDavid might want to go to once his two year extension is over. As we know, he's entering year one of the two year extension. And obviously, Mike Babcock being a factor as Edmonton's new coach should be really interesting because I don't know how he'll mesh well with McDavid and ; Draisaitl And a couple UFAs I want to talk about. Laine still available, Logan Stanley, Eeli Tolvanen You got a bunch of other guys, Tarasenko, Bunting, Perron, Cam Talbot, and Nick Blankenburg who I think are all really good players are still available. Some of them might be heading towards one year deals or even PTOs. I really thought they might have signed come July 1st, but nothing yet. Want to talk about the Tambay Lightning real quick and what's going on with them. They finished last year with a record of 50 26 and 6, second in the Atlantic. They lost in seven games to the Montreal Canadiens. this is their fifth straight one and done. As we know, they have been balanced out of the first round five straight times. So a little bit worrisome there. John Carlson signs a two-year, $8.5 million deal. 36 years old, coming off 60 points, 14 goals, 46 46 apples, and 71 games between Washington and Anaheim last year. He slots in as the power play quarterback and top pairing right shot. Next up, Ilya Mikheyev scores a four-year, three point eight five million dollar contract at the age of thirty-one. 18 goals, 18 assists, 36 points, 77 games. He offers speed and a penalty kill. Jeffrey Viel five years, 2.5. I mean, he's a physicality, bottom six forward, can fight. We'll see what he's able to do there. Out, as we know, Darren Raddysh was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a sign-in trade. Nick Paul was also dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs. So it should be really interesting to see there. As we know, the Tampay Lightning 84 games this year. They open up their season in New York October 1st, and their home opener is against the Washington Capitals at Benchmark International. We have 28 divisional games this year, four versus each Atlantic opponent, three versus each Metro team, and two versus each Western team. So Pacific and Central. They have 13 sets of back-to-back games. Preseason opens under a month away against the Nashville Predators. they have four total games, they have two at home. also against Carolina, and then they play Florida in Tampa, and then they play Florida in Sunrise. So really interesting to see there. And it's a little bit different now, as we know. The last wild card spot last year averaged around 94.6 points in the east and 95.2 in the west over the last five seasons with two extra games. 100 points is obviously the play in both conferences if you want to clinch it. And then the NHL released its massive, massive you know, top centers, top wingers. So we're just gonna go through it real quick. And number one, McDavid, two Mackinnon three Celebrini, four Draisaitl, five Barkov, six Eichel, seven Crosby, eight Matthews, nine Suzuki, ten Hughes, eleven Scheifele, twelve Aho, thirteen Stutzle, fourteen Carlsson, fifteen Hischier, sixteen Bedard, seventeen Brayden Point. 18 Johnston 19 Thompson and lastly the 20th being Larkin Wingers Kuch being the first, then pasta, Kirill Marner, Rantanen, and Boldy, Robertson at seven, Tkachuk, at eight, Caufield, at nine, Nylander at ten, Kyle Connor at eleven, Panarin at twelve, hagel at thirteen, Reinhart, at fourteen, Necas at fifteen, Guentzel, at sixteen, keller at seventeen, Brady Tkachuk, at 18, Cutter Gauthier 19, and Lucas Raymond at 20. And they also dropped the top 20 defensemen. Makar number one, Hughes 2, 3 Werenski, 4 Dahlin, 5 Heiskanen 6 Hutson, 7 Schaefer, 8, Sanderson, 9, Seider, 10, 10, Bouchard, 11, McAvoy, 12, Slavin, 13, Fox, 14, Faber, 15, Josi 16, Morrissey, 17, LaCombe 18, Hedman, 19, Theodore, and 20. Toews Top ten goalies obviously coming off is Vezna Vasilevskiy, two Hellebuyck, three Shesterkin four Sorokin, five Swayman, six Thompson, seven Oettinger, eight Vladar, nine Wallstedt and ten Dobes So those are your top centers, wingers, and goalies for next season. Couple guys I want to talk about coming into next year would be Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg. Those are the two rookies that. Looking to break into the league come next year. And that's pretty much it. Really excited to see what happens with Florida State this week. See what happens with the Lightning rookie showcase. And then obviously preseason is right around the corner. Without further ado, I've been your host, Sawyer, aka B G, and I will see you guys on the other side of the glass. Peace.
