KFI AM six forty Bill Handle. Here.
4
00:00:09.880 --> 00:00:16.679
It is a Friday morning, April eleventh. Today is footy Friday. Oh,
5
00:00:16.760 --> 00:00:21.399
I should do that Dodgers thing. Here we go Tonight,
6
00:00:21.480 --> 00:00:23.600
the Dodgers are back in LA to take on the Cubs.
7
00:00:23.640 --> 00:00:24.559
First pitch at seven.

Broadcast Booth, and you can stream all games at HD
11
00:00:34.320 --> 00:00:38.600
on the iHeartRadio app. The keyword is AM five seventy
12
00:00:38.719 --> 00:00:43.920
LA Sports. All Right, we're looking at the doll right now,
13
00:00:44.079 --> 00:00:48.439
CNN and Fox. And by the time I say we're
14
00:00:48.479 --> 00:00:52.079
looking at the Dow, it is either up or down
15
00:00:52.159 --> 00:00:53.159
one hundred points.
16
00:00:53.920 --> 00:00:54.960
It is going crazy.
17
00:00:55.399 --> 00:00:59.000
Jared Dillion, who is a financial writer, best selling and
18
00:00:59.119 --> 00:01:00.280
who has been part of his care we are on
19
00:01:00.359 --> 00:01:03.399
Wall Street, an active investor, so he knows a lot
20
00:01:03.439 --> 00:01:06.879
what's going on. Jared, thank you for joining us, taking
21
00:01:06.920 --> 00:01:08.280
your time here on KFI.
22
00:01:08.879 --> 00:01:09.879
Hey, thanks for having me.
23
00:01:10.000 --> 00:01:13.879
Okay, now you're looking at we are looking at one
24
00:01:13.959 --> 00:01:19.120
hundred and twenty five percent tariffs on the United States
25
00:01:19.159 --> 00:01:21.280
from Beijing, and of course I think we're up to
26
00:01:21.280 --> 00:01:23.719
one hundred and forty five percent the other way, and
27
00:01:23.760 --> 00:01:26.239
beij Beijing says we're done. We're not going to do
28
00:01:26.239 --> 00:01:28.359
it anymore because at one hundred and twenty five percent,
29
00:01:28.840 --> 00:01:31.840
it makes it financially unfeasible for you to sell anything
30
00:01:31.840 --> 00:01:34.439
here anyway, so you know, you can go for wherever.
31
00:01:34.680 --> 00:01:38.319
What does this really mean in terms of business, in
32
00:01:38.439 --> 00:01:41.280
terms of what we are actually going to pay because
33
00:01:41.280 --> 00:01:43.239
the administration is not telling us very much.
34
00:01:44.400 --> 00:01:47.560
Yeah, there has been a communication problem out of the
35
00:01:47.560 --> 00:01:50.359
White House. And let me give you my best interpretation
36
00:01:50.599 --> 00:01:55.959
of what they're trying to do. China is an adversary,
37
00:01:56.040 --> 00:02:00.280
They're an enemy. I want to go back to Raygan
38
00:02:00.480 --> 00:02:05.879
in the eighties, and you know, Reagan is mythologized for
39
00:02:06.239 --> 00:02:09.759
getting into an arms race with the uss ARE and
40
00:02:09.800 --> 00:02:14.759
eventually bankrupting them, you know, using our own economic power,
41
00:02:15.199 --> 00:02:17.879
and the Berlin wallfell, and now there's an airport named
42
00:02:17.879 --> 00:02:20.840
after Reagan. Trump is trying to do the same thing
43
00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:25.960
to China with tariffs. You know, we have one hundred
44
00:02:25.960 --> 00:02:29.240
and twenty five percent tariffs on China. China sells more
45
00:02:29.280 --> 00:02:33.199
goods into the US than we sell to them. It's
46
00:02:33.240 --> 00:02:37.199
totally asymmetrical. This hurts China more than it does US.
47
00:02:38.080 --> 00:02:42.000
China is playing poker. They're saying that, you know, they
48
00:02:42.080 --> 00:02:44.919
can raise tariffs and definitely, and you know, the reality
49
00:02:45.000 --> 00:02:47.840
is they can't. What Trump is trying to do is
50
00:02:47.879 --> 00:02:51.919
to weaken their economy and push them into a depression.
51
00:02:51.960 --> 00:02:56.280
They're already in a recession. They've had a real estate crash,
52
00:02:56.319 --> 00:03:00.159
and they have terrible demographics and they have deflation, and
53
00:03:00.199 --> 00:03:03.000
Trump is trying to push them into a depression so
54
00:03:03.039 --> 00:03:05.759
that they're no longer a military power.
55
00:03:06.919 --> 00:03:07.280
Okay.
56
00:03:07.360 --> 00:03:10.520
With that being said, as you said that they have
57
00:03:10.639 --> 00:03:15.759
more to lose than we do. There's a political consideration
58
00:03:15.879 --> 00:03:18.039
here that I would like you to comment on, and
59
00:03:18.080 --> 00:03:22.400
that is she is not elected. I mean, he is
60
00:03:22.479 --> 00:03:26.479
now an autocrat and he doesn't have to talk to
61
00:03:26.560 --> 00:03:29.159
the electorate because there isn't one. For the most part,
62
00:03:29.800 --> 00:03:33.159
he doesn't report to anybody. And China has been known
63
00:03:33.199 --> 00:03:37.199
to play the long game ever since well forever, I mean,
64
00:03:37.240 --> 00:03:40.120
that's just the way they operate. And so with that
65
00:03:40.240 --> 00:03:43.280
being said, and him saying, you know what, we're willing
66
00:03:43.319 --> 00:03:46.800
to tough it out, which they have before, who do
67
00:03:46.840 --> 00:03:48.560
you think is going to blink first.
68
00:03:49.039 --> 00:03:52.159
I think China will blink first. I absolutely do. I
69
00:03:52.759 --> 00:03:56.159
think people in the US tend to, I guess over
70
00:03:56.240 --> 00:03:59.879
inflate China as a threat or as an economic power.
71
00:04:00.960 --> 00:04:06.759
The Chinese bureaucracy is very dysfunctional. Nothing really moves in
72
00:04:06.800 --> 00:04:12.759
that country without she saying so, it's sclerotic, it's bloated,
73
00:04:12.919 --> 00:04:18.480
it's corrupt, it's very slow. I am I am not
74
00:04:18.680 --> 00:04:22.120
too worried about if in a tariff war, in a
75
00:04:22.160 --> 00:04:25.959
trade war between the US in China, the US is
76
00:04:26.000 --> 00:04:28.680
going to win. Having said that, you know, as a
77
00:04:28.720 --> 00:04:31.240
free trader, as somebody who believes in pre trade and
78
00:04:31.240 --> 00:04:35.240
believes that pre trade benefits everybody, I'm you know, I'm
79
00:04:35.279 --> 00:04:38.199
sort of skeptical that this is a good idea in
80
00:04:38.199 --> 00:04:40.600
the first place. But you know, you mentioned in the
81
00:04:40.600 --> 00:04:44.120
beginning that, you know, Trump hasn't really communicated the goal
82
00:04:44.199 --> 00:04:47.120
behind this, and this is sort of a bad marketing
83
00:04:47.199 --> 00:04:50.519
job by the administration. If he said, look, we're all
84
00:04:50.519 --> 00:04:52.720
in this together, We're going to have to pay higher
85
00:04:52.720 --> 00:04:56.160
prices for goods, We're going to have to endure a
86
00:04:56.199 --> 00:04:59.800
little stock market volatility in the pursuit of this goal,
87
00:05:00.279 --> 00:05:02.000
then I think people would be on board. But he's
88
00:05:02.040 --> 00:05:03.480
done a terrible job selling him.
89
00:05:03.600 --> 00:05:05.759
You know what, I have to tell you, I disagree
90
00:05:05.920 --> 00:05:08.639
because I think he's making it very clear now and
91
00:05:08.720 --> 00:05:11.360
he's doing a lot what Reagan did. When Reagan came
92
00:05:11.399 --> 00:05:13.040
in and said, hey, it's not going to be good
93
00:05:13.040 --> 00:05:15.120
for a while, guys, you're going to have to just
94
00:05:15.240 --> 00:05:17.519
suck it up. And he was very open about it,
95
00:05:17.879 --> 00:05:20.079
and he goes but in the end, it's going to
96
00:05:20.120 --> 00:05:22.079
come back, and it did. I mean, he was right
97
00:05:22.120 --> 00:05:25.759
on in terms of the financial world. And Trump has
98
00:05:25.800 --> 00:05:28.279
gone from of course, day one, I promise you the
99
00:05:28.319 --> 00:05:31.439
economy is going to explode. I promise you price is
100
00:05:31.480 --> 00:05:33.360
going to be down day one. It's going to be
101
00:05:33.360 --> 00:05:36.079
a beautiful economy on January twentieth.
102
00:05:36.199 --> 00:05:36.839
Okay, thank you.
103
00:05:36.920 --> 00:05:40.839
With that being said, now he has already said there's
104
00:05:40.879 --> 00:05:43.839
a transition. We have to live through it a little bit.
105
00:05:44.480 --> 00:05:47.920
The question is how long can we live through it?
106
00:05:48.399 --> 00:05:52.199
Even believing that in the end the endgame is exactly
107
00:05:52.199 --> 00:05:56.800
what Trump wants, and that's manufacturing here, employment here, that
108
00:05:57.000 --> 00:05:59.600
we don't have to rely on foreign markets as much,
109
00:06:00.120 --> 00:06:01.160
manufacturing as much.
110
00:06:01.199 --> 00:06:02.399
How long can we last?
111
00:06:04.519 --> 00:06:06.720
I don't know. I haven't I haven't seen this before.
112
00:06:06.839 --> 00:06:09.600
I mean, you know, Scott Bessen, the Treasury secretary, he
113
00:06:09.720 --> 00:06:11.959
actually sold it a little bit. I mean he said,
114
00:06:12.439 --> 00:06:14.519
we're going to have to go through a period of detox,
115
00:06:14.600 --> 00:06:17.240
That's what he called it. And you know, Biden is
116
00:06:17.399 --> 00:06:21.240
in his term front loaded all the pleasure during the pandemic,
117
00:06:21.319 --> 00:06:24.040
with all the stimulus checks and PPP loans and stuff
118
00:06:24.079 --> 00:06:27.000
like that. And Trump is front loading all the pain
119
00:06:27.160 --> 00:06:31.920
much like Reagan did. Just like you said. So you know,
120
00:06:32.279 --> 00:06:37.120
let's say cars start costing ten twenty thousand dollars more,
121
00:06:37.439 --> 00:06:41.240
food costs more, Walmart costs more. All this stuff. It
122
00:06:41.319 --> 00:06:46.319
causes people some pain. How long can we last? I
123
00:06:46.360 --> 00:06:48.079
don't know. I mean, the interesting thing is is that
124
00:06:48.120 --> 00:06:51.600
Trump's popularity. If you look at the polls, there's been
125
00:06:51.600 --> 00:06:54.399
some polls that if they re ran the election right now,
126
00:06:54.480 --> 00:06:57.680
even with all this economic chaos, Trump would have still
127
00:06:57.720 --> 00:07:00.079
beaten Kamala if the election were held today.
128
00:07:00.319 --> 00:07:02.240
For the life of me, I don't get it, I
129
00:07:02.319 --> 00:07:05.959
really don't. As Trump said, prices have gone down. I
130
00:07:06.000 --> 00:07:08.680
went to the store about a dozen eggs, paid twelve bucks,
131
00:07:09.399 --> 00:07:12.839
walked to the clerk and they go it's twelve dollars.
132
00:07:12.839 --> 00:07:15.759
I go, no, no, prices have gone down. Oh no, no,
133
00:07:15.839 --> 00:07:19.240
it's still twelve bucks. No, no, you're wrong, prices have dropped.
134
00:07:19.240 --> 00:07:24.839
Don't you understand anyway, So we will see, by the way,
135
00:07:24.879 --> 00:07:25.480
real quickly.
136
00:07:25.560 --> 00:07:28.439
Are you a fan, yes or no, of any of
137
00:07:28.439 --> 00:07:29.160
these tariffs?
138
00:07:30.839 --> 00:07:33.040
I think the only I'm not a fan of the
139
00:07:33.439 --> 00:07:36.519
ten percent across the board tariffs. I don't think. Look,
140
00:07:36.759 --> 00:07:39.120
I mean, if the goal is to bring back manufacturing,
141
00:07:39.720 --> 00:07:42.600
there's two things. First of all, why do we want
142
00:07:42.639 --> 00:07:49.040
manufacturing jobs? Manufacturing jobs are stultifying and boring and tedious.
143
00:07:49.680 --> 00:07:52.120
Let other countries do it. So I don't think we
144
00:07:52.199 --> 00:07:55.279
really want manufacturing jobs. And manufacturing jobs have been going
145
00:07:55.319 --> 00:07:59.399
down for one hundred years, regardless of all the free
146
00:07:59.399 --> 00:08:04.079
trade agreement. It's just a matter of automation. So that's
147
00:08:04.120 --> 00:08:06.279
part of it. And I lost my train of thought
148
00:08:06.279 --> 00:08:07.319
and I can't remember the other part.
149
00:08:07.439 --> 00:08:09.560
Oh good, get a talk show. I get a talk
150
00:08:09.600 --> 00:08:12.560
show because this is what we do. Jared, thank you
151
00:08:12.639 --> 00:08:14.439
so much for being with us. You have a lot
152
00:08:14.439 --> 00:08:18.160
in explaining. All right, you take care. All right, I
153
00:08:18.240 --> 00:08:21.720
want to quickly talk about Karen Bass and a guy
154
00:08:21.720 --> 00:08:23.079
with named Steve Sobaroff.
155
00:08:23.560 --> 00:08:25.600
Now I want to be fair to Karen Bass.
156
00:08:26.079 --> 00:08:29.639
I've been very rough on her, and well, you know,
157
00:08:29.680 --> 00:08:32.120
I'm not a big fan of hers. I'm less of
158
00:08:32.159 --> 00:08:36.360
a fan now and I think she screwed the pooch
159
00:08:36.519 --> 00:08:39.399
even more. Yeah, I don't know how she's going to
160
00:08:39.399 --> 00:08:41.840
get re elected. I have no idea, but anyway. Steve
161
00:08:41.919 --> 00:08:47.080
soberof Soberoff is LA's fire Recovery zar by named by
162
00:08:47.159 --> 00:08:53.480
Karen Bass, and he's a civic leader and man, he just.
163
00:08:53.519 --> 00:08:54.480
Shoots from the hip.
164
00:08:54.519 --> 00:08:58.639
He does not mind saying things zill tell people to
165
00:08:58.919 --> 00:09:00.960
f off at press conferences.
166
00:09:01.000 --> 00:09:01.559
He doesn't go.
167
00:09:02.000 --> 00:09:07.159
He just doesn't stop. And he is a developer and
168
00:09:07.399 --> 00:09:09.399
very well known in the world real estate. And he
169
00:09:09.600 --> 00:09:13.879
was hired for a three month term to lead the
170
00:09:14.399 --> 00:09:19.480
Let's Fix the Palisades after the fires. Salary of five
171
00:09:19.600 --> 00:09:22.240
hundred thousand dollars for three months, by the way, not bad.
172
00:09:22.879 --> 00:09:24.440
And there was such an up where he goes, okay,
173
00:09:24.480 --> 00:09:28.039
I'll do this for free. He certainly doesn't need the money. Well,
174
00:09:28.039 --> 00:09:30.200
what he says is from the minute he was hired
175
00:09:30.279 --> 00:09:36.799
by Karen Bass, he was shut out. She just wasn't
176
00:09:36.840 --> 00:09:41.480
interested in him doing his job. Now he still worked,
177
00:09:41.919 --> 00:09:45.279
but not what he was supposed to do. He ended
178
00:09:45.360 --> 00:09:51.759
up being a fixer, called people up. He was able
179
00:09:51.759 --> 00:09:55.759
to negotiate FEMA getting involved in helping by the way,
180
00:09:56.080 --> 00:09:59.879
his exclusion, according to him, came within two weeks after
181
00:10:00.080 --> 00:10:06.240
his appointment. For example, she opened the mayor opened palis
182
00:10:06.320 --> 00:10:08.879
ages to the public. According to Steve Soberoff, she didn't
183
00:10:08.879 --> 00:10:12.480
even tell him. He wasn't anywhere near the press conference.
184
00:10:12.679 --> 00:10:14.360
And this is the guy who was supposed to take
185
00:10:14.360 --> 00:10:20.639
care of all this, and how was she How did
186
00:10:20.679 --> 00:10:25.000
she respond, Well, I have known Steve for years and years,
187
00:10:26.080 --> 00:10:29.320
and he's not going to be that far away anyway,
188
00:10:29.480 --> 00:10:31.919
in reference to him not being at the press conference,
189
00:10:32.639 --> 00:10:37.759
so he knows I'll stay in contact. And she said
190
00:10:37.759 --> 00:10:41.559
that Soberoff has laid a great foundation in his role.
191
00:10:41.720 --> 00:10:44.679
I don't know what any of that means. This is
192
00:10:44.759 --> 00:10:45.759
political speak.
193
00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:50.399
This is an accusation being thrown at a political figure
194
00:10:50.399 --> 00:10:55.759
who comes back and says, I believe in what I
195
00:10:55.799 --> 00:10:58.679
am doing for the benefit of the people in Los Angeles,
196
00:10:59.279 --> 00:11:02.440
and I am fixing the problems with the fires more
197
00:11:02.480 --> 00:11:05.279
so than anybody else, and we're doing it the greatest
198
00:11:05.320 --> 00:11:08.120
job we've ever done in history of fixing up a city.
199
00:11:09.000 --> 00:11:12.559
How about responding to the fact you didn't let Steve
200
00:11:12.639 --> 00:11:17.759
sober off anywhere near uh the fires or repair that
201
00:11:17.799 --> 00:11:18.960
you said you were going to.
202
00:11:19.919 --> 00:11:21.720
I believe in Los Angeles.
203
00:11:21.919 --> 00:11:24.799
I believe that we are going to fix this city
204
00:11:25.279 --> 00:11:26.759
as quickly as possible.
205
00:11:26.840 --> 00:11:28.279
And her spokesperson said.
206
00:11:28.120 --> 00:11:29.799
And no one has done a job the way she
207
00:11:29.879 --> 00:11:34.440
has done it, typical, typical political speech.
208
00:11:35.200 --> 00:11:35.919
I'm not a fan.
209
00:11:36.039 --> 00:11:39.159
I couldn't believe that Paul Caruso did not win that
210
00:11:39.639 --> 00:11:40.279
mayor's race.
211
00:11:40.360 --> 00:11:43.440
Could not believe it. Rick Crusoe, that's him too, That's right,
212
00:11:43.559 --> 00:11:44.080
Rick Caruso.
213
00:11:44.120 --> 00:11:47.480
I don't know why I have a They're brain all
214
00:11:47.519 --> 00:11:47.799
the time.
215
00:11:47.960 --> 00:11:49.799
No, I don't know. It's a mental block I have.
216
00:11:49.960 --> 00:11:50.879
Who's Paul Crusoe.
217
00:11:50.919 --> 00:11:54.480
I have no idea. I have absolutely no idea who
218
00:11:54.519 --> 00:11:55.480
Paul Caruso is.
219
00:11:57.720 --> 00:11:59.159
As a matter of fact, he act.
220
00:11:59.480 --> 00:12:01.639
Okay, I feel better, I feel like Eminem. Well, the
221
00:12:01.679 --> 00:12:04.320
real Paul Caruso, please stand up, Please.
222
00:12:04.039 --> 00:12:06.080
Stand up as an actor. He died in two thousand
223
00:12:06.120 --> 00:12:06.360
and one.
224
00:12:06.440 --> 00:12:09.759
Even better, all right. I have often said I am
225
00:12:09.799 --> 00:12:14.080
not an exceptionalist. And what do I mean by that? Well,
226
00:12:14.120 --> 00:12:17.519
it's in reference to people who say America is the
227
00:12:17.519 --> 00:12:21.519
greatest country in the world, and in many ways I
228
00:12:21.559 --> 00:12:28.960
agree with that. There is no question opportunity, certainly natural resources.
229
00:12:29.879 --> 00:12:34.080
Now there are some issues. For example, our medical system.
230
00:12:34.120 --> 00:12:35.879
You think that's broken. Are we the best in the
231
00:12:35.919 --> 00:12:39.360
world in terms of our medical system? Really the number
232
00:12:39.399 --> 00:12:42.639
of people in prison more than any place else in
233
00:12:42.679 --> 00:12:46.240
the world, not only in terms of numbers, but per capita.
234
00:12:47.080 --> 00:12:51.039
We are the greatest country in the world. Right, Well,
235
00:12:51.960 --> 00:12:53.919
you know we are in many many ways.
236
00:12:54.000 --> 00:12:56.360
Now one of the things where we are maybe not
237
00:12:56.519 --> 00:12:59.360
the greatest country in the world homelessness. You think that's
238
00:12:59.399 --> 00:13:02.320
a problem. So let me tell you a story about
239
00:13:02.320 --> 00:13:06.840
what's going on in New York and homeless. There are
240
00:13:07.039 --> 00:13:12.200
New York homeless shelters, and about a third of the
241
00:13:12.279 --> 00:13:15.320
families that live in these shelters, not including migrants, by
242
00:13:15.320 --> 00:13:18.320
the way, have at least one adult who gets up,
243
00:13:18.399 --> 00:13:22.960
goes to work every day and they're living in homeless shelters.
244
00:13:24.039 --> 00:13:26.240
Some of them make up to fifty thousand dollars a
245
00:13:26.320 --> 00:13:33.519
year and they're living in homeless shelters. How is that possible? Well,
246
00:13:34.159 --> 00:13:37.600
there are two reasons. And by the way, this is
247
00:13:37.679 --> 00:13:39.879
not the kind of homeless that we see that. They
248
00:13:39.960 --> 00:13:43.639
see people sleeping on subway cars or begging for change
249
00:13:43.679 --> 00:13:46.279
on street corners. I love it when you was some
250
00:13:46.360 --> 00:13:48.399
guy on a three corner, Hey, mister, do you have
251
00:13:48.440 --> 00:13:50.799
any change? And I look and I go, I have plenty,
252
00:13:50.879 --> 00:13:54.879
and then I walk away. Or if I have a
253
00:13:54.879 --> 00:13:57.559
bunch of change in my pocket, I jingle it and say, yeah,
254
00:13:57.720 --> 00:14:00.519
lots of it, and then I walk Not big fan
255
00:14:00.559 --> 00:14:05.039
of people just begging for money on the street corner.
256
00:14:05.600 --> 00:14:09.360
But you've got people who are mentally ill or addicted. Okay,
257
00:14:09.440 --> 00:14:11.360
that's part of the homeless population.
258
00:14:11.039 --> 00:14:16.399
Got it. But people who work full time? How is
259
00:14:16.399 --> 00:14:17.200
that possible?
260
00:14:17.879 --> 00:14:22.679
Well, the cost of living in New York, the price
261
00:14:23.039 --> 00:14:27.440
of real estate in terms of rentals, are just out
262
00:14:27.440 --> 00:14:32.039
of control. You make fifty thousand dollars a year, all right,
263
00:14:32.080 --> 00:14:35.360
Then you're down to, after taxes, thirty five thousand dollars
264
00:14:35.399 --> 00:14:41.840
a year, and rent is twenty five hundred dollars a year.
265
00:14:41.919 --> 00:14:44.480
So you have a spendable income of thirty thousand dollars
266
00:14:44.519 --> 00:14:47.159
thirty five thousand, your rent is thirty thousand dollars.
267
00:14:48.240 --> 00:14:51.000
And by the way, there are no places to rent.
268
00:14:53.279 --> 00:14:56.759
So what ends up happening, Well, you have thousands of
269
00:14:56.799 --> 00:15:01.240
working people that end up in shelters, and that one
270
00:15:01.840 --> 00:15:04.480
just rips me to shreds. You go to other countries
271
00:15:04.480 --> 00:15:06.840
in the world. I just got back from Italy. You
272
00:15:06.919 --> 00:15:11.919
don't see homeless people on the street. You go to Amsterdam,
273
00:15:12.279 --> 00:15:14.240
you go to any of the Scandinavian countries, you go
274
00:15:14.279 --> 00:15:17.360
to Germany, you don't see homeless people on the street.
275
00:15:18.840 --> 00:15:22.399
Imagine you're in New York. Someone gets up, goes to work,
276
00:15:23.000 --> 00:15:26.600
even cops. Are you ready for this? Even police officers?
277
00:15:27.519 --> 00:15:31.759
And what happens is these people don't admit it because
278
00:15:31.759 --> 00:15:35.919
I mean, how humiliating is that living in a shelter. Now,
279
00:15:35.919 --> 00:15:38.960
these are separate shelters that they are building. They are
280
00:15:39.080 --> 00:15:44.559
shelters for people to work. And there are small shelters
281
00:15:45.519 --> 00:15:50.799
people live two or three to There are dorm rooms,
282
00:15:51.440 --> 00:15:55.240
single beds, but there is a cafeteria there.
283
00:15:56.039 --> 00:15:57.519
They give up bus tokens.
284
00:15:58.840 --> 00:16:03.519
There are people to help people get jobs, all paid
285
00:16:03.559 --> 00:16:07.279
for by the city, because the number one employer of
286
00:16:07.519 --> 00:16:10.039
these people who get up and go to work is
287
00:16:10.120 --> 00:16:14.440
the city of New York. They're bus drivers, they work
288
00:16:14.440 --> 00:16:19.759
in the schools, they work on the subway, tackling those
289
00:16:19.799 --> 00:16:22.840
people that try to jump the line, go over the
290
00:16:23.679 --> 00:16:29.600
little gates. They work and they're janitors, but they work
291
00:16:30.360 --> 00:16:35.240
and they live in shelters. Ask them if America is
292
00:16:35.320 --> 00:16:39.240
the greatest country in the world. Now you ask me,
293
00:16:39.720 --> 00:16:43.120
I live in a nice house. Yeah, America is the
294
00:16:43.159 --> 00:16:45.720
greatest country in the world. I can afford insurance, so
295
00:16:45.759 --> 00:16:48.279
I have great medical care. I mean, I pay for it,
296
00:16:48.360 --> 00:16:54.360
but I have great medical care. So I'll tell you
297
00:16:54.399 --> 00:16:56.480
all that level. America is the greatest country in the world.
298
00:16:56.519 --> 00:16:59.080
And then you have opportunity. I came here as an immigrant.
299
00:17:00.279 --> 00:17:01.879
I came here to the United States when I was
300
00:17:02.120 --> 00:17:04.759
five years old. Didn't speak a word of English, and
301
00:17:04.799 --> 00:17:07.759
there was no English as a second language. There weren't
302
00:17:07.799 --> 00:17:11.880
many teachers that taught in Portuguese when I started going
303
00:17:11.920 --> 00:17:14.000
to school, so it was a baptism and fire.
304
00:17:16.079 --> 00:17:17.920
But the opportunity was there.
305
00:17:18.079 --> 00:17:19.799
You know, there are many countries in the world where
306
00:17:19.799 --> 00:17:23.960
you come to a country dirt poor. I mean, you know,
307
00:17:23.960 --> 00:17:26.000
I'm gonna tell you, Yeah, I walked to school of
308
00:17:26.079 --> 00:17:29.400
four miles in the snow uphill both ways here in
309
00:17:29.480 --> 00:17:34.279
southern California. Yeah, yeah, okay, fine, But my parents did
310
00:17:34.359 --> 00:17:39.200
come here with nothing, and you know, I was able
311
00:17:39.279 --> 00:17:42.559
to get a La City unified, great education.
312
00:17:42.720 --> 00:17:44.799
That's when you could actually come out and be literate.
313
00:17:45.319 --> 00:17:46.839
And then I went to a state.
314
00:17:46.599 --> 00:17:50.240
College, then I went to law school, and you know,
315
00:17:50.279 --> 00:17:55.200
all of it. That's opportunity. That's America in its best ways.
316
00:17:55.920 --> 00:17:58.519
Talk to those people who live in shelters in New
317
00:17:58.599 --> 00:18:03.319
York live who can't get a place to stay because
318
00:18:03.359 --> 00:18:05.240
of all the craziness. All right, coming up at the
319
00:18:05.240 --> 00:18:08.599
top of the hour, Neil Savager of Foodie Friday, and
320
00:18:08.640 --> 00:18:11.559
then ask handle anything fairly new segment where we have
321
00:18:11.599 --> 00:18:14.440
a good time and humili ate me for the most part. Okay,
322
00:18:14.759 --> 00:18:17.599
that's Justin. You're hearing Justin Worsham who used to be
323
00:18:17.799 --> 00:18:19.640
on this show. And I was just talking to Justin.
324
00:18:19.680 --> 00:18:23.000
He was our board operator, Kono. Just want to let
325
00:18:23.039 --> 00:18:25.640
you know he was so far better than you could
326
00:18:25.759 --> 00:18:28.200
ever be good. Yeah, it could be that great. I
327
00:18:28.240 --> 00:18:29.039
don't work here.
328
00:18:30.759 --> 00:18:32.839
And it's been almost it's been ten years.
329
00:18:32.960 --> 00:18:35.880
Ten years, man, twenty fifteen. You know that's got to
330
00:18:36.160 --> 00:18:37.960
that weird. It doesn't feel like it. I'll be honest.
331
00:18:38.000 --> 00:18:41.079
Now it feels like it. Well for me, yeah, wow,
332
00:18:41.119 --> 00:18:45.400
ten years. So anyway, Justin left us. Were you fired?
333
00:18:45.480 --> 00:18:46.559
Or do you voluntarily leave?
334
00:18:46.839 --> 00:18:48.680
You know, it's a little bit of both. I was
335
00:18:48.720 --> 00:18:51.720
fired because management at the time thought I made the
336
00:18:51.759 --> 00:18:54.400
show sound too FM and too silly, because I felt
337
00:18:54.440 --> 00:18:56.720
I was originally hired to make like do comedy bits
338
00:18:56.720 --> 00:19:00.720
because I was a comedian, and then so I was like, okay,
339
00:19:00.839 --> 00:19:02.960
and they wanted me to just be the board op
340
00:19:03.000 --> 00:19:08.720
no offense Steve and so anyway, I eventually I had
341
00:19:08.720 --> 00:19:10.400
to go in there and say I think I'm good.
342
00:19:10.559 --> 00:19:12.640
I think I'm out. And then they I said, but
343
00:19:12.759 --> 00:19:15.319
go ahead and find somebody. I'll train them whatever. And
344
00:19:15.359 --> 00:19:17.839
that took like five months, and I go, hey, at
345
00:19:17.839 --> 00:19:20.839
the time, we're under hiring Freeze, and I said, do
346
00:19:20.880 --> 00:19:22.640
you need me to quit in order to hire somebody?
347
00:19:22.720 --> 00:19:24.279
And they were like yeah, So I said okay.
348
00:19:24.839 --> 00:19:26.559
And by the way, for those people had never heard,
349
00:19:26.759 --> 00:19:27.799
do you do comedy? Still?
350
00:19:28.000 --> 00:19:31.039
I don't because you are very funny. By the way,
351
00:19:31.119 --> 00:19:32.720
if you weren't, I would tell you that. I know,
352
00:19:33.519 --> 00:19:34.160
I know you would.
353
00:19:34.160 --> 00:19:36.799
You're actually one of my the joys of my life
354
00:19:37.000 --> 00:19:39.200
was at my time here was making you laugh. To
355
00:19:39.240 --> 00:19:41.400
be an all sincerity. I know I got a lot
356
00:19:41.440 --> 00:19:43.240
of hell for laughing at you. That was another thing.
357
00:19:43.240 --> 00:19:44.759
I got in trouble because I thought you were funny
358
00:19:44.799 --> 00:19:45.480
and nobody else did.
359
00:19:45.599 --> 00:19:46.119
Y's true.
360
00:19:46.400 --> 00:19:48.440
I can't even begin to tell you how true. Hey,
361
00:19:48.519 --> 00:19:52.279
let's talk about real estate. You left, and you left
362
00:19:52.279 --> 00:19:55.160
for real estate, which was obviously a great decision for you.
363
00:19:55.480 --> 00:19:59.720
And then this weekend you're going to do a program, yes,
364
00:20:00.000 --> 00:20:00.440
in real estate.
365
00:20:00.480 --> 00:20:03.200
They're giving me an audition to do a show about
366
00:20:03.240 --> 00:20:06.480
southern California real estate. So's the way I'm describing it
367
00:20:06.559 --> 00:20:08.640
at this point is it's like the high school class
368
00:20:08.640 --> 00:20:11.519
everybody should have about buying a home. It's the information
369
00:20:11.599 --> 00:20:13.440
that everybody should know, and most people don't.
370
00:20:14.880 --> 00:20:17.079
Shouldn't you talk about how you're not going to be
371
00:20:17.119 --> 00:20:19.440
able to buy a home? That's a big talkopic, Yeah,
372
00:20:19.440 --> 00:20:21.240
that is. I was talking to my daughter last night.
373
00:20:21.279 --> 00:20:24.839
I was with my daughter, Marjorie, and we were having dinner,
374
00:20:24.920 --> 00:20:27.400
and my daughter said, I'm never going to buy a house.
375
00:20:27.480 --> 00:20:30.480
And Mom, when you know you bought your first house?
376
00:20:30.480 --> 00:20:32.960
She goes, two years after I started working. She goes,
377
00:20:32.960 --> 00:20:35.319
how is that possible? And how much was it?
378
00:20:35.519 --> 00:20:40.680
And she said one hundred thousand dollars And we started
379
00:20:40.680 --> 00:20:43.279
talking about how much money she was making at the time,
380
00:20:43.319 --> 00:20:46.160
and she started her job at twenty five thousand dollars
381
00:20:46.200 --> 00:20:48.079
a year and was able to buy a one hundred
382
00:20:48.079 --> 00:20:51.279
thousand dollars home. That's a four to one ratio. Okay,
383
00:20:51.400 --> 00:20:55.119
let's say you make one hundred thousand dollars. If you
384
00:20:55.160 --> 00:20:57.200
make one hundred thousand dollars a year, which is not bad.
385
00:20:57.279 --> 00:21:00.480
By the way, you're talking about a four hundred thousand
386
00:21:00.519 --> 00:21:04.400
dollars house. Where do you get that in southern California, especially.
387
00:21:04.119 --> 00:21:06.359
Right out of college, when you're riddled with because college costs
388
00:21:06.400 --> 00:21:09.119
way more, so they're just strapped with student loans and debt.
389
00:21:09.200 --> 00:21:09.839
I can't do it.
390
00:21:09.880 --> 00:21:11.880
State of California is already we talked about it at
391
00:21:11.920 --> 00:21:15.160
the first show last week. Is sixteen percent affordability. So
392
00:21:15.200 --> 00:21:18.640
that means that sixteen percent of Californians can afford to
393
00:21:18.720 --> 00:21:21.880
pay the mortgage payment on a on the median price
394
00:21:21.920 --> 00:21:24.000
home of about nine hundred and fifty six thousand in
395
00:21:24.039 --> 00:21:25.880
the state of California, only sixteen percent.
396
00:21:25.920 --> 00:21:27.559
And by the way, what is nine hundred and fifty
397
00:21:27.559 --> 00:21:29.759
six thousand dollars buy yout In.
398
00:21:30.000 --> 00:21:33.480
Southern you can get a pretty nice condo.
399
00:21:35.680 --> 00:21:37.079
I know, I look out the window and I know
400
00:21:37.119 --> 00:21:38.880
you live in Burbank, right, you're right around the corner.
401
00:21:38.920 --> 00:21:40.960
I look out the window and I look at these.
402
00:21:42.759 --> 00:21:45.920
Homes, huge homes, eleven hundred square feet, twelve hundred square feet. Right,
403
00:21:45.920 --> 00:21:48.720
they're ginormous, I know, you know, built in nineteen twenty two,
404
00:21:49.240 --> 00:21:51.759
you know, with yards basically smaller than the size of
405
00:21:51.759 --> 00:21:52.279
the studio.
406
00:21:52.559 --> 00:21:54.359
And they're a million dollars million.
407
00:21:54.440 --> 00:21:57.319
My house is eleven hundred square feed, three bedroom, one bath.
408
00:21:57.440 --> 00:21:59.519
Ten years ago I paid just under half a mill
409
00:21:59.599 --> 00:22:02.039
for it's now worth about one point one million dollars.
410
00:22:02.079 --> 00:22:04.680
That's insane, It's stupid. It's stupid.
411
00:22:04.759 --> 00:22:06.400
So is that ever going to turn around? Or is
412
00:22:06.519 --> 00:22:10.039
La or Southern California completely crazy? Interest rates?
413
00:22:10.240 --> 00:22:12.960
The interest rates were supposed to lower prices, right, They
414
00:22:13.000 --> 00:22:15.799
expected a five to ten percent drop in other markets
415
00:22:16.200 --> 00:22:20.079
around the country, absolutely at lower prices, some more than others.
416
00:22:20.440 --> 00:22:23.319
But in La County last year, eight percent appreciation, Orange
417
00:22:23.319 --> 00:22:26.079
County twenty one point seven percent appreciation with seven and
418
00:22:26.119 --> 00:22:27.079
a quarter interest rates.
419
00:22:27.119 --> 00:22:29.960
Here's one last question I want to ask you. People
420
00:22:30.160 --> 00:22:33.960
are still thinking three percent money? They got to their heads.
421
00:22:34.640 --> 00:22:36.880
That's exactly what I say. When does that go away?
422
00:22:36.920 --> 00:22:40.319
When you were looking at six percent as a reasonable rate.
423
00:22:40.920 --> 00:22:43.720
If you look back at the data, six percent was
424
00:22:42.960 --> 00:22:46.160
a good rate for a long time with good appreciation.
425
00:22:46.559 --> 00:22:48.359
It's just when you start hearing two or three and
426
00:22:48.400 --> 00:22:50.920
then it doubles in a year like that, that tits
427
00:22:50.960 --> 00:22:53.319
people's mental state and they're just not happy with it,
428
00:22:53.359 --> 00:22:53.759
and that's.
429
00:22:53.680 --> 00:22:56.920
Going to disappear. You know, three percent people will die.
430
00:22:57.039 --> 00:22:59.359
The other thing I've learned in preparation for these shows
431
00:22:59.359 --> 00:23:02.240
that I'm doing on is that we're one point four
432
00:23:02.319 --> 00:23:05.400
million unit housing units by twenty twenty nine behind. This
433
00:23:05.440 --> 00:23:07.680
is according to all of the counties in southern California
434
00:23:07.720 --> 00:23:10.640
getting together, and they can only legally build about four
435
00:23:10.720 --> 00:23:13.519
hundred thousand. So what they're saying is one point four
436
00:23:13.559 --> 00:23:15.559
million would meet the demand and create a more balanced
437
00:23:15.559 --> 00:23:18.039
market where these housing prices would stop going up so much,
438
00:23:18.720 --> 00:23:20.079
but they can only build a third of that.
439
00:23:20.440 --> 00:23:22.039
Crazy. Okay, When is the show?
440
00:23:22.119 --> 00:23:24.000
By the way, two to four on Sundays, And they
441
00:23:24.079 --> 00:23:25.839
just extended me through the rest of the month. So
442
00:23:25.880 --> 00:23:27.519
things are looking good for this guy so far.
443
00:23:27.440 --> 00:23:31.079
All right, And it's called Cleverly the Justin Worsham Show.
444
00:23:31.240 --> 00:23:34.480
Yeah, you don't like that. It's brilliant we'll get luxury,
445
00:23:34.519 --> 00:23:37.319
we'll spitball the better ideas then yeah, all right. I
446
00:23:37.400 --> 00:23:39.440
tried Worsham Duel but they said it was taking out.
447
00:23:40.240 --> 00:23:43.960
All right, that's two to four this Sunday, justin Worsham,
448
00:23:43.960 --> 00:23:46.799
and it's gonna be worth it because he's a very
449
00:23:46.799 --> 00:23:48.559
funny guy and he's actually very smart too.
450
00:23:48.599 --> 00:23:51.119
Thanks manah No, And if you weren't, I would.
451
00:23:50.839 --> 00:23:53.680
Tell you this is very uncomfortable to get compliments.
452
00:23:53.839 --> 00:23:57.240
And I was just talking. I was what was it?
453
00:23:57.400 --> 00:24:00.240
Amy was in this morning and we were talking about
454
00:24:00.279 --> 00:24:02.319
who looks good and done? I said, Amy d Liot,
455
00:24:02.400 --> 00:24:05.799
great today. And you've been listening to The Bill Handle Show.

00:00:09.880 --> 00:00:16.679

I should do that Dodgers thing. Here we go Tonight,
6
00:00:21.480 --> 00:00:23.600

11
00:00:34.320 --> 00:00:38.600
on the iHeartRadio app. The keyword is AM five seventy
12
00:00:38.719 --> 00:00:43.920
LA Sports. All Right, we're looking at the doll right now,
13
00:00:44.079 --> 00:00:48.439
CNN and Fox. And by the time I say we're
14
00:00:48.479 --> 00:00:52.079
looking at the Dow, it is either up or down
15
00:00:52.159 --> 00:00:53.159
one hundred points.
16
00:00:53.920 --> 00:00:54.960
It is going crazy.
17
00:00:55.399 --> 00:00:59.000
Jared Dillion, who is a financial writer, best selling and
18
00:00:59.119 --> 00:01:00.280
who has been part of his care we are on
19
00:01:00.359 --> 00:01:03.399
Wall Street, an active investor, so he knows a lot
20
00:01:03.439 --> 00:01:06.879
what's going on. Jared, thank you for joining us, taking
21
00:01:06.920 --> 00:01:08.280
your time here on KFI.
22
00:01:08.879 --> 00:01:09.879
Hey, thanks for having me.
23
00:01:10.000 --> 00:01:13.879
Okay, now you're looking at we are looking at one
24
00:01:13.959 --> 00:01:19.120
hundred and twenty five percent tariffs on the United States
25
00:01:19.159 --> 00:01:21.280
from Beijing, and of course I think we're up to
26
00:01:21.280 --> 00:01:23.719
one hundred and forty five percent the other way, and
27
00:01:23.760 --> 00:01:26.239
beij Beijing says we're done. We're not going to do
28
00:01:26.239 --> 00:01:28.359
it anymore because at one hundred and twenty five percent,
29
00:01:28.840 --> 00:01:31.840
it makes it financially unfeasible for you to sell anything
30
00:01:31.840 --> 00:01:34.439
here anyway, so you know, you can go for wherever.
31
00:01:34.680 --> 00:01:38.319
What does this really mean in terms of business, in
32
00:01:38.439 --> 00:01:41.280
terms of what we are actually going to pay because
33
00:01:41.280 --> 00:01:43.239
the administration is not telling us very much.
34
00:01:44.400 --> 00:01:47.560
Yeah, there has been a communication problem out of the
35
00:01:47.560 --> 00:01:50.359
White House. And let me give you my best interpretation
36
00:01:50.599 --> 00:01:55.959
of what they're trying to do. China is an adversary,
37
00:01:56.040 --> 00:02:00.280
They're an enemy. I want to go back to Raygan
38
00:02:00.480 --> 00:02:05.879
in the eighties, and you know, Reagan is mythologized for
39
00:02:06.239 --> 00:02:09.759
getting into an arms race with the uss ARE and
40
00:02:09.800 --> 00:02:14.759
eventually bankrupting them, you know, using our own economic power,
41
00:02:15.199 --> 00:02:17.879
and the Berlin wallfell, and now there's an airport named
42
00:02:17.879 --> 00:02:20.840
after Reagan. Trump is trying to do the same thing
43
00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:25.960
to China with tariffs. You know, we have one hundred
44
00:02:25.960 --> 00:02:29.240
and twenty five percent tariffs on China. China sells more
45
00:02:29.280 --> 00:02:33.199
goods into the US than we sell to them. It's
46
00:02:33.240 --> 00:02:37.199
totally asymmetrical. This hurts China more than it does US.
47
00:02:38.080 --> 00:02:42.000
China is playing poker. They're saying that, you know, they
48
00:02:42.080 --> 00:02:44.919
can raise tariffs and definitely, and you know, the reality
49
00:02:45.000 --> 00:02:47.840
is they can't. What Trump is trying to do is
50
00:02:47.879 --> 00:02:51.919
to weaken their economy and push them into a depression.
51
00:02:51.960 --> 00:02:56.280
They're already in a recession. They've had a real estate crash,
52
00:02:56.319 --> 00:03:00.159
and they have terrible demographics and they have deflation, and
53
00:03:00.199 --> 00:03:03.000
Trump is trying to push them into a depression so
54
00:03:03.039 --> 00:03:05.759
that they're no longer a military power.
55
00:03:06.919 --> 00:03:07.280
Okay.
56
00:03:07.360 --> 00:03:10.520
With that being said, as you said that they have
57
00:03:10.639 --> 00:03:15.759
more to lose than we do. There's a political consideration
58
00:03:15.879 --> 00:03:18.039
here that I would like you to comment on, and
59
00:03:18.080 --> 00:03:22.400
that is she is not elected. I mean, he is
60
00:03:22.479 --> 00:03:26.479
now an autocrat and he doesn't have to talk to
61
00:03:26.560 --> 00:03:29.159
the electorate because there isn't one. For the most part,
62
00:03:29.800 --> 00:03:33.159
he doesn't report to anybody. And China has been known
63
00:03:33.199 --> 00:03:37.199
to play the long game ever since well forever, I mean,
64
00:03:37.240 --> 00:03:40.120
that's just the way they operate. And so with that
65
00:03:40.240 --> 00:03:43.280
being said, and him saying, you know what, we're willing
66
00:03:43.319 --> 00:03:46.800
to tough it out, which they have before, who do
67
00:03:46.840 --> 00:03:48.560
you think is going to blink first.
68
00:03:49.039 --> 00:03:52.159
I think China will blink first. I absolutely do. I
69
00:03:52.759 --> 00:03:56.159
think people in the US tend to, I guess over
70
00:03:56.240 --> 00:03:59.879
inflate China as a threat or as an economic power.
71
00:04:00.960 --> 00:04:06.759
The Chinese bureaucracy is very dysfunctional. Nothing really moves in
72
00:04:06.800 --> 00:04:12.759
that country without she saying so, it's sclerotic, it's bloated,
73
00:04:12.919 --> 00:04:18.480
it's corrupt, it's very slow. I am I am not
74
00:04:18.680 --> 00:04:22.120
too worried about if in a tariff war, in a
75
00:04:22.160 --> 00:04:25.959
trade war between the US in China, the US is
76
00:04:26.000 --> 00:04:28.680
going to win. Having said that, you know, as a
77
00:04:28.720 --> 00:04:31.240
free trader, as somebody who believes in pre trade and
78
00:04:31.240 --> 00:04:35.240
believes that pre trade benefits everybody, I'm you know, I'm
79
00:04:35.279 --> 00:04:38.199
sort of skeptical that this is a good idea in
80
00:04:38.199 --> 00:04:40.600
the first place. But you know, you mentioned in the
81
00:04:40.600 --> 00:04:44.120
beginning that, you know, Trump hasn't really communicated the goal
82
00:04:44.199 --> 00:04:47.120
behind this, and this is sort of a bad marketing
83
00:04:47.199 --> 00:04:50.519
job by the administration. If he said, look, we're all
84
00:04:50.519 --> 00:04:52.720
in this together, We're going to have to pay higher
85
00:04:52.720 --> 00:04:56.160
prices for goods, We're going to have to endure a
86
00:04:56.199 --> 00:04:59.800
little stock market volatility in the pursuit of this goal,
87
00:05:00.279 --> 00:05:02.000
then I think people would be on board. But he's
88
00:05:02.040 --> 00:05:03.480
done a terrible job selling him.
89
00:05:03.600 --> 00:05:05.759
You know what, I have to tell you, I disagree
90
00:05:05.920 --> 00:05:08.639
because I think he's making it very clear now and
91
00:05:08.720 --> 00:05:11.360
he's doing a lot what Reagan did. When Reagan came
92
00:05:11.399 --> 00:05:13.040
in and said, hey, it's not going to be good
93
00:05:13.040 --> 00:05:15.120
for a while, guys, you're going to have to just
94
00:05:15.240 --> 00:05:17.519
suck it up. And he was very open about it,
95
00:05:17.879 --> 00:05:20.079
and he goes but in the end, it's going to
96
00:05:20.120 --> 00:05:22.079
come back, and it did. I mean, he was right
97
00:05:22.120 --> 00:05:25.759
on in terms of the financial world. And Trump has
98
00:05:25.800 --> 00:05:28.279
gone from of course, day one, I promise you the
99
00:05:28.319 --> 00:05:31.439
economy is going to explode. I promise you price is
100
00:05:31.480 --> 00:05:33.360
going to be down day one. It's going to be
101
00:05:33.360 --> 00:05:36.079
a beautiful economy on January twentieth.
102
00:05:36.199 --> 00:05:36.839
Okay, thank you.
103
00:05:36.920 --> 00:05:40.839
With that being said, now he has already said there's
104
00:05:40.879 --> 00:05:43.839
a transition. We have to live through it a little bit.
105
00:05:44.480 --> 00:05:47.920
The question is how long can we live through it?
106
00:05:48.399 --> 00:05:52.199
Even believing that in the end the endgame is exactly
107
00:05:52.199 --> 00:05:56.800
what Trump wants, and that's manufacturing here, employment here, that
108
00:05:57.000 --> 00:05:59.600
we don't have to rely on foreign markets as much,
109
00:06:00.120 --> 00:06:01.160
manufacturing as much.
110
00:06:01.199 --> 00:06:02.399
How long can we last?
111
00:06:04.519 --> 00:06:06.720
I don't know. I haven't I haven't seen this before.
112
00:06:06.839 --> 00:06:09.600
I mean, you know, Scott Bessen, the Treasury secretary, he
113
00:06:09.720 --> 00:06:11.959
actually sold it a little bit. I mean he said,
114
00:06:12.439 --> 00:06:14.519
we're going to have to go through a period of detox,
115
00:06:14.600 --> 00:06:17.240
That's what he called it. And you know, Biden is
116
00:06:17.399 --> 00:06:21.240
in his term front loaded all the pleasure during the pandemic,
117
00:06:21.319 --> 00:06:24.040
with all the stimulus checks and PPP loans and stuff
118
00:06:24.079 --> 00:06:27.000
like that. And Trump is front loading all the pain
119
00:06:27.160 --> 00:06:31.920
much like Reagan did. Just like you said. So you know,
120
00:06:32.279 --> 00:06:37.120
let's say cars start costing ten twenty thousand dollars more,
121
00:06:37.439 --> 00:06:41.240
food costs more, Walmart costs more. All this stuff. It
122
00:06:41.319 --> 00:06:46.319
causes people some pain. How long can we last? I
123
00:06:46.360 --> 00:06:48.079
don't know. I mean, the interesting thing is is that
124
00:06:48.120 --> 00:06:51.600
Trump's popularity. If you look at the polls, there's been
125
00:06:51.600 --> 00:06:54.399
some polls that if they re ran the election right now,
126
00:06:54.480 --> 00:06:57.680
even with all this economic chaos, Trump would have still
127
00:06:57.720 --> 00:07:00.079
beaten Kamala if the election were held today.
128
00:07:00.319 --> 00:07:02.240
For the life of me, I don't get it, I
129
00:07:02.319 --> 00:07:05.959
really don't. As Trump said, prices have gone down. I
130
00:07:06.000 --> 00:07:08.680
went to the store about a dozen eggs, paid twelve bucks,
131
00:07:09.399 --> 00:07:12.839
walked to the clerk and they go it's twelve dollars.
132
00:07:12.839 --> 00:07:15.759
I go, no, no, prices have gone down. Oh no, no,
133
00:07:15.839 --> 00:07:19.240
it's still twelve bucks. No, no, you're wrong, prices have dropped.
134
00:07:19.240 --> 00:07:24.839
Don't you understand anyway, So we will see, by the way,
135
00:07:24.879 --> 00:07:25.480
real quickly.
136
00:07:25.560 --> 00:07:28.439
Are you a fan, yes or no, of any of
137
00:07:28.439 --> 00:07:29.160
these tariffs?
138
00:07:30.839 --> 00:07:33.040
I think the only I'm not a fan of the
139
00:07:33.439 --> 00:07:36.519
ten percent across the board tariffs. I don't think. Look,
140
00:07:36.759 --> 00:07:39.120
I mean, if the goal is to bring back manufacturing,
141
00:07:39.720 --> 00:07:42.600
there's two things. First of all, why do we want
142
00:07:42.639 --> 00:07:49.040
manufacturing jobs? Manufacturing jobs are stultifying and boring and tedious.
143
00:07:49.680 --> 00:07:52.120
Let other countries do it. So I don't think we
144
00:07:52.199 --> 00:07:55.279
really want manufacturing jobs. And manufacturing jobs have been going
145
00:07:55.319 --> 00:07:59.399
down for one hundred years, regardless of all the free
146
00:07:59.399 --> 00:08:04.079
trade agreement. It's just a matter of automation. So that's
147
00:08:04.120 --> 00:08:06.279
part of it. And I lost my train of thought
148
00:08:06.279 --> 00:08:07.319
and I can't remember the other part.
149
00:08:07.439 --> 00:08:09.560
Oh good, get a talk show. I get a talk
150
00:08:09.600 --> 00:08:12.560
show because this is what we do. Jared, thank you
151
00:08:12.639 --> 00:08:14.439
so much for being with us. You have a lot
152
00:08:14.439 --> 00:08:18.160
in explaining. All right, you take care. All right, I
153
00:08:18.240 --> 00:08:21.720
want to quickly talk about Karen Bass and a guy
154
00:08:21.720 --> 00:08:23.079
with named Steve Sobaroff.
155
00:08:23.560 --> 00:08:25.600
Now I want to be fair to Karen Bass.
156
00:08:26.079 --> 00:08:29.639
I've been very rough on her, and well, you know,
157
00:08:29.680 --> 00:08:32.120
I'm not a big fan of hers. I'm less of
158
00:08:32.159 --> 00:08:36.360
a fan now and I think she screwed the pooch
159
00:08:36.519 --> 00:08:39.399
even more. Yeah, I don't know how she's going to
160
00:08:39.399 --> 00:08:41.840
get re elected. I have no idea, but anyway. Steve
161
00:08:41.919 --> 00:08:47.080
soberof Soberoff is LA's fire Recovery zar by named by
162
00:08:47.159 --> 00:08:53.480
Karen Bass, and he's a civic leader and man, he just.
163
00:08:53.519 --> 00:08:54.480
Shoots from the hip.
164
00:08:54.519 --> 00:08:58.639
He does not mind saying things zill tell people to
165
00:08:58.919 --> 00:09:00.960
f off at press conferences.
166
00:09:01.000 --> 00:09:01.559
He doesn't go.
167
00:09:02.000 --> 00:09:07.159
He just doesn't stop. And he is a developer and
168
00:09:07.399 --> 00:09:09.399
very well known in the world real estate. And he
169
00:09:09.600 --> 00:09:13.879
was hired for a three month term to lead the
170
00:09:14.399 --> 00:09:19.480
Let's Fix the Palisades after the fires. Salary of five
171
00:09:19.600 --> 00:09:22.240
hundred thousand dollars for three months, by the way, not bad.
172
00:09:22.879 --> 00:09:24.440
And there was such an up where he goes, okay,
173
00:09:24.480 --> 00:09:28.039
I'll do this for free. He certainly doesn't need the money. Well,
174
00:09:28.039 --> 00:09:30.200
what he says is from the minute he was hired
175
00:09:30.279 --> 00:09:36.799
by Karen Bass, he was shut out. She just wasn't
176
00:09:36.840 --> 00:09:41.480
interested in him doing his job. Now he still worked,
177
00:09:41.919 --> 00:09:45.279
but not what he was supposed to do. He ended
178
00:09:45.360 --> 00:09:51.759
up being a fixer, called people up. He was able
179
00:09:51.759 --> 00:09:55.759
to negotiate FEMA getting involved in helping by the way,
180
00:09:56.080 --> 00:09:59.879
his exclusion, according to him, came within two weeks after
181
00:10:00.080 --> 00:10:06.240
his appointment. For example, she opened the mayor opened palis
182
00:10:06.320 --> 00:10:08.879
ages to the public. According to Steve Soberoff, she didn't
183
00:10:08.879 --> 00:10:12.480
even tell him. He wasn't anywhere near the press conference.
184
00:10:12.679 --> 00:10:14.360
And this is the guy who was supposed to take
185
00:10:14.360 --> 00:10:20.639
care of all this, and how was she How did
186
00:10:20.679 --> 00:10:25.000
she respond, Well, I have known Steve for years and years,
187
00:10:26.080 --> 00:10:29.320
and he's not going to be that far away anyway,
188
00:10:29.480 --> 00:10:31.919
in reference to him not being at the press conference,
189
00:10:32.639 --> 00:10:37.759
so he knows I'll stay in contact. And she said
190
00:10:37.759 --> 00:10:41.559
that Soberoff has laid a great foundation in his role.
191
00:10:41.720 --> 00:10:44.679
I don't know what any of that means. This is
192
00:10:44.759 --> 00:10:45.759
political speak.
193
00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:50.399
This is an accusation being thrown at a political figure
194
00:10:50.399 --> 00:10:55.759
who comes back and says, I believe in what I
195
00:10:55.799 --> 00:10:58.679
am doing for the benefit of the people in Los Angeles,
196
00:10:59.279 --> 00:11:02.440
and I am fixing the problems with the fires more
197
00:11:02.480 --> 00:11:05.279
so than anybody else, and we're doing it the greatest
198
00:11:05.320 --> 00:11:08.120
job we've ever done in history of fixing up a city.
199
00:11:09.000 --> 00:11:12.559
How about responding to the fact you didn't let Steve
200
00:11:12.639 --> 00:11:17.759
sober off anywhere near uh the fires or repair that
201
00:11:17.799 --> 00:11:18.960
you said you were going to.
202
00:11:19.919 --> 00:11:21.720
I believe in Los Angeles.
203
00:11:21.919 --> 00:11:24.799
I believe that we are going to fix this city
204
00:11:25.279 --> 00:11:26.759
as quickly as possible.
205
00:11:26.840 --> 00:11:28.279
And her spokesperson said.
206
00:11:28.120 --> 00:11:29.799
And no one has done a job the way she
207
00:11:29.879 --> 00:11:34.440
has done it, typical, typical political speech.
208
00:11:35.200 --> 00:11:35.919
I'm not a fan.
209
00:11:36.039 --> 00:11:39.159
I couldn't believe that Paul Caruso did not win that
210
00:11:39.639 --> 00:11:40.279
mayor's race.
211
00:11:40.360 --> 00:11:43.440
Could not believe it. Rick Crusoe, that's him too, That's right,
212
00:11:43.559 --> 00:11:44.080
Rick Caruso.
213
00:11:44.120 --> 00:11:47.480
I don't know why I have a They're brain all
214
00:11:47.519 --> 00:11:47.799
the time.
215
00:11:47.960 --> 00:11:49.799
No, I don't know. It's a mental block I have.
216
00:11:49.960 --> 00:11:50.879
Who's Paul Crusoe.
217
00:11:50.919 --> 00:11:54.480
I have no idea. I have absolutely no idea who
218
00:11:54.519 --> 00:11:55.480
Paul Caruso is.
219
00:11:57.720 --> 00:11:59.159
As a matter of fact, he act.
220
00:11:59.480 --> 00:12:01.639
Okay, I feel better, I feel like Eminem. Well, the
221
00:12:01.679 --> 00:12:04.320
real Paul Caruso, please stand up, Please.
222
00:12:04.039 --> 00:12:06.080
Stand up as an actor. He died in two thousand
223
00:12:06.120 --> 00:12:06.360
and one.
224
00:12:06.440 --> 00:12:09.759
Even better, all right. I have often said I am
225
00:12:09.799 --> 00:12:14.080
not an exceptionalist. And what do I mean by that? Well,
226
00:12:14.120 --> 00:12:17.519
it's in reference to people who say America is the
227
00:12:17.519 --> 00:12:21.519
greatest country in the world, and in many ways I
228
00:12:21.559 --> 00:12:28.960
agree with that. There is no question opportunity, certainly natural resources.
229
00:12:29.879 --> 00:12:34.080
Now there are some issues. For example, our medical system.
230
00:12:34.120 --> 00:12:35.879
You think that's broken. Are we the best in the
231
00:12:35.919 --> 00:12:39.360
world in terms of our medical system? Really the number
232
00:12:39.399 --> 00:12:42.639
of people in prison more than any place else in
233
00:12:42.679 --> 00:12:46.240
the world, not only in terms of numbers, but per capita.
234
00:12:47.080 --> 00:12:51.039
We are the greatest country in the world. Right, Well,
235
00:12:51.960 --> 00:12:53.919
you know we are in many many ways.
236
00:12:54.000 --> 00:12:56.360
Now one of the things where we are maybe not
237
00:12:56.519 --> 00:12:59.360
the greatest country in the world homelessness. You think that's
238
00:12:59.399 --> 00:13:02.320
a problem. So let me tell you a story about
239
00:13:02.320 --> 00:13:06.840
what's going on in New York and homeless. There are
240
00:13:07.039 --> 00:13:12.200
New York homeless shelters, and about a third of the
241
00:13:12.279 --> 00:13:15.320
families that live in these shelters, not including migrants, by
242
00:13:15.320 --> 00:13:18.320
the way, have at least one adult who gets up,
243
00:13:18.399 --> 00:13:22.960
goes to work every day and they're living in homeless shelters.
244
00:13:24.039 --> 00:13:26.240
Some of them make up to fifty thousand dollars a
245
00:13:26.320 --> 00:13:33.519
year and they're living in homeless shelters. How is that possible? Well,
246
00:13:34.159 --> 00:13:37.600
there are two reasons. And by the way, this is
247
00:13:37.679 --> 00:13:39.879
not the kind of homeless that we see that. They
248
00:13:39.960 --> 00:13:43.639
see people sleeping on subway cars or begging for change
249
00:13:43.679 --> 00:13:46.279
on street corners. I love it when you was some
250
00:13:46.360 --> 00:13:48.399
guy on a three corner, Hey, mister, do you have
251
00:13:48.440 --> 00:13:50.799
any change? And I look and I go, I have plenty,
252
00:13:50.879 --> 00:13:54.879
and then I walk away. Or if I have a
253
00:13:54.879 --> 00:13:57.559
bunch of change in my pocket, I jingle it and say, yeah,
254
00:13:57.720 --> 00:14:00.519
lots of it, and then I walk Not big fan
255
00:14:00.559 --> 00:14:05.039
of people just begging for money on the street corner.
256
00:14:05.600 --> 00:14:09.360
But you've got people who are mentally ill or addicted. Okay,
257
00:14:09.440 --> 00:14:11.360
that's part of the homeless population.
258
00:14:11.039 --> 00:14:16.399
Got it. But people who work full time? How is
259
00:14:16.399 --> 00:14:17.200
that possible?
260
00:14:17.879 --> 00:14:22.679
Well, the cost of living in New York, the price
261
00:14:23.039 --> 00:14:27.440
of real estate in terms of rentals, are just out
262
00:14:27.440 --> 00:14:32.039
of control. You make fifty thousand dollars a year, all right,
263
00:14:32.080 --> 00:14:35.360
Then you're down to, after taxes, thirty five thousand dollars
264
00:14:35.399 --> 00:14:41.840
a year, and rent is twenty five hundred dollars a year.
265
00:14:41.919 --> 00:14:44.480
So you have a spendable income of thirty thousand dollars
266
00:14:44.519 --> 00:14:47.159
thirty five thousand, your rent is thirty thousand dollars.
267
00:14:48.240 --> 00:14:51.000
And by the way, there are no places to rent.
268
00:14:53.279 --> 00:14:56.759
So what ends up happening, Well, you have thousands of
269
00:14:56.799 --> 00:15:01.240
working people that end up in shelters, and that one
270
00:15:01.840 --> 00:15:04.480
just rips me to shreds. You go to other countries
271
00:15:04.480 --> 00:15:06.840
in the world. I just got back from Italy. You
272
00:15:06.919 --> 00:15:11.919
don't see homeless people on the street. You go to Amsterdam,
273
00:15:12.279 --> 00:15:14.240
you go to any of the Scandinavian countries, you go
274
00:15:14.279 --> 00:15:17.360
to Germany, you don't see homeless people on the street.
275
00:15:18.840 --> 00:15:22.399
Imagine you're in New York. Someone gets up, goes to work,
276
00:15:23.000 --> 00:15:26.600
even cops. Are you ready for this? Even police officers?
277
00:15:27.519 --> 00:15:31.759
And what happens is these people don't admit it because
278
00:15:31.759 --> 00:15:35.919
I mean, how humiliating is that living in a shelter. Now,
279
00:15:35.919 --> 00:15:38.960
these are separate shelters that they are building. They are
280
00:15:39.080 --> 00:15:44.559
shelters for people to work. And there are small shelters
281
00:15:45.519 --> 00:15:50.799
people live two or three to There are dorm rooms,
282
00:15:51.440 --> 00:15:55.240
single beds, but there is a cafeteria there.
283
00:15:56.039 --> 00:15:57.519
They give up bus tokens.
284
00:15:58.840 --> 00:16:03.519
There are people to help people get jobs, all paid
285
00:16:03.559 --> 00:16:07.279
for by the city, because the number one employer of
286
00:16:07.519 --> 00:16:10.039
these people who get up and go to work is
287
00:16:10.120 --> 00:16:14.440
the city of New York. They're bus drivers, they work
288
00:16:14.440 --> 00:16:19.759
in the schools, they work on the subway, tackling those
289
00:16:19.799 --> 00:16:22.840
people that try to jump the line, go over the
290
00:16:23.679 --> 00:16:29.600
little gates. They work and they're janitors, but they work
291
00:16:30.360 --> 00:16:35.240
and they live in shelters. Ask them if America is
292
00:16:35.320 --> 00:16:39.240
the greatest country in the world. Now you ask me,
293
00:16:39.720 --> 00:16:43.120
I live in a nice house. Yeah, America is the
294
00:16:43.159 --> 00:16:45.720
greatest country in the world. I can afford insurance, so
295
00:16:45.759 --> 00:16:48.279
I have great medical care. I mean, I pay for it,
296
00:16:48.360 --> 00:16:54.360
but I have great medical care. So I'll tell you
297
00:16:54.399 --> 00:16:56.480
all that level. America is the greatest country in the world.
298
00:16:56.519 --> 00:16:59.080
And then you have opportunity. I came here as an immigrant.
299
00:17:00.279 --> 00:17:01.879
I came here to the United States when I was
300
00:17:02.120 --> 00:17:04.759
five years old. Didn't speak a word of English, and
301
00:17:04.799 --> 00:17:07.759
there was no English as a second language. There weren't
302
00:17:07.799 --> 00:17:11.880
many teachers that taught in Portuguese when I started going
303
00:17:11.920 --> 00:17:14.000
to school, so it was a baptism and fire.
304
00:17:16.079 --> 00:17:17.920
But the opportunity was there.
305
00:17:18.079 --> 00:17:19.799
You know, there are many countries in the world where
306
00:17:19.799 --> 00:17:23.960
you come to a country dirt poor. I mean, you know,
307
00:17:23.960 --> 00:17:26.000
I'm gonna tell you, Yeah, I walked to school of
308
00:17:26.079 --> 00:17:29.400
four miles in the snow uphill both ways here in
309
00:17:29.480 --> 00:17:34.279
southern California. Yeah, yeah, okay, fine, But my parents did
310
00:17:34.359 --> 00:17:39.200
come here with nothing, and you know, I was able
311
00:17:39.279 --> 00:17:42.559
to get a La City unified, great education.
312
00:17:42.720 --> 00:17:44.799
That's when you could actually come out and be literate.
313
00:17:45.319 --> 00:17:46.839
And then I went to a state.
314
00:17:46.599 --> 00:17:50.240
College, then I went to law school, and you know,
315
00:17:50.279 --> 00:17:55.200
all of it. That's opportunity. That's America in its best ways.
316
00:17:55.920 --> 00:17:58.519
Talk to those people who live in shelters in New
317
00:17:58.599 --> 00:18:03.319
York live who can't get a place to stay because
318
00:18:03.359 --> 00:18:05.240
of all the craziness. All right, coming up at the
319
00:18:05.240 --> 00:18:08.599
top of the hour, Neil Savager of Foodie Friday, and
320
00:18:08.640 --> 00:18:11.559
then ask handle anything fairly new segment where we have
321
00:18:11.599 --> 00:18:14.440
a good time and humili ate me for the most part. Okay,
322
00:18:14.759 --> 00:18:17.599
that's Justin. You're hearing Justin Worsham who used to be
323
00:18:17.799 --> 00:18:19.640
on this show. And I was just talking to Justin.
324
00:18:19.680 --> 00:18:23.000
He was our board operator, Kono. Just want to let
325
00:18:23.039 --> 00:18:25.640
you know he was so far better than you could
326
00:18:25.759 --> 00:18:28.200
ever be good. Yeah, it could be that great. I
327
00:18:28.240 --> 00:18:29.039
don't work here.
328
00:18:30.759 --> 00:18:32.839
And it's been almost it's been ten years.
329
00:18:32.960 --> 00:18:35.880
Ten years, man, twenty fifteen. You know that's got to
330
00:18:36.160 --> 00:18:37.960
that weird. It doesn't feel like it. I'll be honest.
331
00:18:38.000 --> 00:18:41.079
Now it feels like it. Well for me, yeah, wow,
332
00:18:41.119 --> 00:18:45.400
ten years. So anyway, Justin left us. Were you fired?
333
00:18:45.480 --> 00:18:46.559
Or do you voluntarily leave?
334
00:18:46.839 --> 00:18:48.680
You know, it's a little bit of both. I was
335
00:18:48.720 --> 00:18:51.720
fired because management at the time thought I made the
336
00:18:51.759 --> 00:18:54.400
show sound too FM and too silly, because I felt
337
00:18:54.440 --> 00:18:56.720
I was originally hired to make like do comedy bits
338
00:18:56.720 --> 00:19:00.720
because I was a comedian, and then so I was like, okay,
339
00:19:00.839 --> 00:19:02.960
and they wanted me to just be the board op
340
00:19:03.000 --> 00:19:08.720
no offense Steve and so anyway, I eventually I had
341
00:19:08.720 --> 00:19:10.400
to go in there and say I think I'm good.
342
00:19:10.559 --> 00:19:12.640
I think I'm out. And then they I said, but
343
00:19:12.759 --> 00:19:15.319
go ahead and find somebody. I'll train them whatever. And
344
00:19:15.359 --> 00:19:17.839
that took like five months, and I go, hey, at
345
00:19:17.839 --> 00:19:20.839
the time, we're under hiring Freeze, and I said, do
346
00:19:20.880 --> 00:19:22.640
you need me to quit in order to hire somebody?
347
00:19:22.720 --> 00:19:24.279
And they were like yeah, So I said okay.
348
00:19:24.839 --> 00:19:26.559
And by the way, for those people had never heard,
349
00:19:26.759 --> 00:19:27.799
do you do comedy? Still?
350
00:19:28.000 --> 00:19:31.039
I don't because you are very funny. By the way,
351
00:19:31.119 --> 00:19:32.720
if you weren't, I would tell you that. I know,
352
00:19:33.519 --> 00:19:34.160
I know you would.
353
00:19:34.160 --> 00:19:36.799
You're actually one of my the joys of my life
354
00:19:37.000 --> 00:19:39.200
was at my time here was making you laugh. To
355
00:19:39.240 --> 00:19:41.400
be an all sincerity. I know I got a lot
356
00:19:41.440 --> 00:19:43.240
of hell for laughing at you. That was another thing.
357
00:19:43.240 --> 00:19:44.759
I got in trouble because I thought you were funny
358
00:19:44.799 --> 00:19:45.480
and nobody else did.
359
00:19:45.599 --> 00:19:46.119
Y's true.
360
00:19:46.400 --> 00:19:48.440
I can't even begin to tell you how true. Hey,
361
00:19:48.519 --> 00:19:52.279
let's talk about real estate. You left, and you left
362
00:19:52.279 --> 00:19:55.160
for real estate, which was obviously a great decision for you.
363
00:19:55.480 --> 00:19:59.720
And then this weekend you're going to do a program, yes,
364
00:20:00.000 --> 00:20:00.440
in real estate.
365
00:20:00.480 --> 00:20:03.200
They're giving me an audition to do a show about
366
00:20:03.240 --> 00:20:06.480
southern California real estate. So's the way I'm describing it
367
00:20:06.559 --> 00:20:08.640
at this point is it's like the high school class
368
00:20:08.640 --> 00:20:11.519
everybody should have about buying a home. It's the information
369
00:20:11.599 --> 00:20:13.440
that everybody should know, and most people don't.
370
00:20:14.880 --> 00:20:17.079
Shouldn't you talk about how you're not going to be
371
00:20:17.119 --> 00:20:19.440
able to buy a home? That's a big talkopic, Yeah,
372
00:20:19.440 --> 00:20:21.240
that is. I was talking to my daughter last night.
373
00:20:21.279 --> 00:20:24.839
I was with my daughter, Marjorie, and we were having dinner,
374
00:20:24.920 --> 00:20:27.400
and my daughter said, I'm never going to buy a house.
375
00:20:27.480 --> 00:20:30.480
And Mom, when you know you bought your first house?
376
00:20:30.480 --> 00:20:32.960
She goes, two years after I started working. She goes,
377
00:20:32.960 --> 00:20:35.319
how is that possible? And how much was it?
378
00:20:35.519 --> 00:20:40.680
And she said one hundred thousand dollars And we started
379
00:20:40.680 --> 00:20:43.279
talking about how much money she was making at the time,
380
00:20:43.319 --> 00:20:46.160
and she started her job at twenty five thousand dollars
381
00:20:46.200 --> 00:20:48.079
a year and was able to buy a one hundred
382
00:20:48.079 --> 00:20:51.279
thousand dollars home. That's a four to one ratio. Okay,
383
00:20:51.400 --> 00:20:55.119
let's say you make one hundred thousand dollars. If you
384
00:20:55.160 --> 00:20:57.200
make one hundred thousand dollars a year, which is not bad.
385
00:20:57.279 --> 00:21:00.480
By the way, you're talking about a four hundred thousand
386
00:21:00.519 --> 00:21:04.400
dollars house. Where do you get that in southern California, especially.
387
00:21:04.119 --> 00:21:06.359
Right out of college, when you're riddled with because college costs
388
00:21:06.400 --> 00:21:09.119
way more, so they're just strapped with student loans and debt.
389
00:21:09.200 --> 00:21:09.839
I can't do it.
390
00:21:09.880 --> 00:21:11.880
State of California is already we talked about it at
391
00:21:11.920 --> 00:21:15.160
the first show last week. Is sixteen percent affordability. So
392
00:21:15.200 --> 00:21:18.640
that means that sixteen percent of Californians can afford to
393
00:21:18.720 --> 00:21:21.880
pay the mortgage payment on a on the median price
394
00:21:21.920 --> 00:21:24.000
home of about nine hundred and fifty six thousand in
395
00:21:24.039 --> 00:21:25.880
the state of California, only sixteen percent.
396
00:21:25.920 --> 00:21:27.559
And by the way, what is nine hundred and fifty
397
00:21:27.559 --> 00:21:29.759
six thousand dollars buy yout In.
398
00:21:30.000 --> 00:21:33.480
Southern you can get a pretty nice condo.
399
00:21:35.680 --> 00:21:37.079
I know, I look out the window and I know
400
00:21:37.119 --> 00:21:38.880
you live in Burbank, right, you're right around the corner.
401
00:21:38.920 --> 00:21:40.960
I look out the window and I look at these.
402
00:21:42.759 --> 00:21:45.920
Homes, huge homes, eleven hundred square feet, twelve hundred square feet. Right,
403
00:21:45.920 --> 00:21:48.720
they're ginormous, I know, you know, built in nineteen twenty two,
404
00:21:49.240 --> 00:21:51.759
you know, with yards basically smaller than the size of
405
00:21:51.759 --> 00:21:52.279
the studio.
406
00:21:52.559 --> 00:21:54.359
And they're a million dollars million.
407
00:21:54.440 --> 00:21:57.319
My house is eleven hundred square feed, three bedroom, one bath.
408
00:21:57.440 --> 00:21:59.519
Ten years ago I paid just under half a mill
409
00:21:59.599 --> 00:22:02.039
for it's now worth about one point one million dollars.
410
00:22:02.079 --> 00:22:04.680
That's insane, It's stupid. It's stupid.
411
00:22:04.759 --> 00:22:06.400
So is that ever going to turn around? Or is
412
00:22:06.519 --> 00:22:10.039
La or Southern California completely crazy? Interest rates?
413
00:22:10.240 --> 00:22:12.960
The interest rates were supposed to lower prices, right, They
414
00:22:13.000 --> 00:22:15.799
expected a five to ten percent drop in other markets
415
00:22:16.200 --> 00:22:20.079
around the country, absolutely at lower prices, some more than others.
416
00:22:20.440 --> 00:22:23.319
But in La County last year, eight percent appreciation, Orange
417
00:22:23.319 --> 00:22:26.079
County twenty one point seven percent appreciation with seven and
418
00:22:26.119 --> 00:22:27.079
a quarter interest rates.
419
00:22:27.119 --> 00:22:29.960
Here's one last question I want to ask you. People
420
00:22:30.160 --> 00:22:33.960
are still thinking three percent money? They got to their heads.
421
00:22:34.640 --> 00:22:36.880
That's exactly what I say. When does that go away?
422
00:22:36.920 --> 00:22:40.319
When you were looking at six percent as a reasonable rate.
423
00:22:40.920 --> 00:22:43.720
If you look back at the data, six percent was
424
00:22:42.960 --> 00:22:46.160
a good rate for a long time with good appreciation.
425
00:22:46.559 --> 00:22:48.359
It's just when you start hearing two or three and
426
00:22:48.400 --> 00:22:50.920
then it doubles in a year like that, that tits
427
00:22:50.960 --> 00:22:53.319
people's mental state and they're just not happy with it,
428
00:22:53.359 --> 00:22:53.759
and that's.
429
00:22:53.680 --> 00:22:56.920
Going to disappear. You know, three percent people will die.
430
00:22:57.039 --> 00:22:59.359
The other thing I've learned in preparation for these shows
431
00:22:59.359 --> 00:23:02.240
that I'm doing on is that we're one point four
432
00:23:02.319 --> 00:23:05.400
million unit housing units by twenty twenty nine behind. This
433
00:23:05.440 --> 00:23:07.680
is according to all of the counties in southern California
434
00:23:07.720 --> 00:23:10.640
getting together, and they can only legally build about four
435
00:23:10.720 --> 00:23:13.519
hundred thousand. So what they're saying is one point four
436
00:23:13.559 --> 00:23:15.559
million would meet the demand and create a more balanced
437
00:23:15.559 --> 00:23:18.039
market where these housing prices would stop going up so much,
438
00:23:18.720 --> 00:23:20.079
but they can only build a third of that.
439
00:23:20.440 --> 00:23:22.039
Crazy. Okay, When is the show?
440
00:23:22.119 --> 00:23:24.000
By the way, two to four on Sundays, And they
441
00:23:24.079 --> 00:23:25.839
just extended me through the rest of the month. So
442
00:23:25.880 --> 00:23:27.519
things are looking good for this guy so far.
443
00:23:27.440 --> 00:23:31.079
All right, And it's called Cleverly the Justin Worsham Show.
444
00:23:31.240 --> 00:23:34.480
Yeah, you don't like that. It's brilliant we'll get luxury,
445
00:23:34.519 --> 00:23:37.319
we'll spitball the better ideas then yeah, all right. I
446
00:23:37.400 --> 00:23:39.440
tried Worsham Duel but they said it was taking out.
447
00:23:40.240 --> 00:23:43.960
All right, that's two to four this Sunday, justin Worsham,
448
00:23:43.960 --> 00:23:46.799
and it's gonna be worth it because he's a very
449
00:23:46.799 --> 00:23:48.559
funny guy and he's actually very smart too.
450
00:23:48.599 --> 00:23:51.119
Thanks manah No, And if you weren't, I would.
451
00:23:50.839 --> 00:23:53.680
Tell you this is very uncomfortable to get compliments.
452
00:23:53.839 --> 00:23:57.240
And I was just talking. I was what was it?
453
00:23:57.400 --> 00:24:00.240
Amy was in this morning and we were talking about
454
00:24:00.279 --> 00:24:02.319
who looks good and done? I said, Amy d Liot,
455
00:24:02.400 --> 00:24:05.799
