SOBRE ESTE EPISÓDIO
Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.
Israel/Gaza commentary: Claims Netanyahu knew of the October 7 attack in advance and issued a stand down order to retain power, citing Israeli official accounts saying the event "fast tracked" plans by 20 years. Frames it as "never let a good crisis go to waste." Says he'll save a related sound bite for a later episode.
Annie Altman / Sam Altman: Notes Jake Shields interviewed Annie Altman that day (Fight Back podcast on Rumble). Background on Sam Altman's 2023 ouster from OpenAI, his sister's sexual assault allegations against him, and former colleagues' characterizations of him. Says mainstream outlets aren't covering it because of Microsoft's stake in OpenAI. Says he hasn't watched the interview yet, will reserve judgment, and plans to react to it on episode 34.
"The Dark Web is a Psyop" (video by We're in Hell): Tor's origins at the U.S. Naval Research Lab; the argument that Tor was deliberately popularized among non-spy users to give spies cover; government funding of Tor via the Broadcasting Board of Governors and Open Technology Fund; Yasha Levine's FOIA-obtained emails showing a cozy relationship between Tor developers and federal agencies; Jacob Appelbaum's role and misconduct allegations; NSA's "egotistical giraffe" program and the honeypot argument; Silk Road/Ross Ulbricht. The video's thesis — that the real problem is cybernetics/individualist tech solutions replacing political ones — plus the host's own take: Tor is probably surveyable, VPNs are "glorified proxies" that keep logs and will comply with subpoenas, and the same honeypot logic could apply to Monero. Also muses that filing a FOIA request on yourself would flag you to the government.
Ledger wallet scam: Reports on Ledger investigating lost funds from users in Southeast Asia who bought devices from reseller CryptoBillis, which allegedly backdoored hardware. Ledger has asked the reseller to pause sales; users who bought in the last 90 days are advised not to set up the device, and those who did should move assets to a new device. Host's position: he doesn't pity the victims — buy from official channels only, shipping cost is an investment in protecting your funds.
Proton and age verification: Reads a TechRadar piece on Proton's new interactive map tracking the spread of age verification laws (18 European countries, 49 US states with proposals, 27 with implemented checks). Criticizes Proton CEO Andy Yen for decrying identification requirements while Proton takes credit card payments, and criticizes privacy_guides for favorable coverage of Proton.
Nidal Malik Hasan execution live stream (main story): Pentagon confirmed the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be live streamed December 3 at 1pm local. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the public should be able to watch. Host reads background on Hasan — his religious devotion, his ideological reasoning, his MD and psychiatry residency at Walter Reed, his 2013 court martial conviction — then works through a Washington Post article on the story. Host supports televised capital punishment in principle and questions why Hasan was chosen as the first case, speculating his religion played a role, and floats (as a joke/conspiracy take) that the stream could be a test of AI video generation.
Monero (XMR): 888ZmxwrH3PRxYkqVpMu3U4ALMpupQiDhL8xnupYvvEJ83UhJNxxBzj6Tfz8MgPihW1miasaLqHJjfxU2NhEfygJVWqcQQa
