Speaker 2: Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of Full Circle Pod, The Women's Sports Around. If you didn't know you needed, I'm like Sue Brown here, Michael, Mariah Rose. We're breaking down what's happening on the court, in the culture, and in our own personal growth because women's sports deserves full conversation. We are fresh off draft nights. Amazing night, Maria, your home, your home?
00:00:35
Speaker 3: How was your weekend? How was Coachella? Wow? I didn't go.
00:00:40
Speaker 2: Wait what I didn't go? Wait what happened? I was never gonna go.
00:00:47
Speaker 3: I thought, that's why you're not in New York right now.
00:00:50
Speaker 1: No, I'm not in New York because I was on a travel band, like I was a traveling at all.
00:00:55
Speaker 4: But I'm actually breaking my night.
00:00:58
Speaker 3: Where you go? Where are you going?
00:01:01
Speaker 1: I'm going to Well, I can't really talk about it, but I'm filming something and I'm interviewing.
00:01:05
Speaker 3: Somebody that's fun. Can you give any hints.
00:01:09
Speaker 1: It's a sport? I don't normally cover that's the hay I could give.
00:01:13
Speaker 3: Oh that's fun. Well, you've missed the time I need to have it.
00:01:17
Speaker 1: I know I've gone the last few years, like this is my first one.
00:01:20
Speaker 4: I think in like since like twenty twenty one that I haven't gone.
00:01:24
Speaker 3: I don't know why I thought you were there.
00:01:26
Speaker 2: I saw well, I saw your justin Bieber videos and I thought, yes, I thought party okay, because I was like, maybe she just didn't feel like going to the I don't know, I don't know what I was thinking, but that's why I thought you didn't come to New York, because you were in Coachella.
00:01:41
Speaker 3: That's what I've been telling everybody the last two days. But I got Cochella.
00:01:47
Speaker 1: I've been trying to prioritize, like when there's an event, like covering it from home, like making videos while it's happening, because sometimes when I go to stuff, I get really caught up and I don't make any videos.
00:02:00
Speaker 2: Girl, Yeah, you understand, because I've been I'm tired as ship right now.
00:02:04
Speaker 3: And how was it?
00:02:06
Speaker 2: It was full? I didn't so I didn't go to the actual draft. So, guys, I'm in New York right now, and I was brought to New York by the Players Association for the Rookie Premiere orientation stuff. So I got to go to dinner with them. It was me Ac Tina, Charles Mobilings, Georgia A.
00:02:25
Speaker 3: Moore, and Mecca and we were in the Vets.
00:02:28
Speaker 2: We were the Vets. I got to hang out with this rookie class. And this class is so special, y'all. Like they're so sweet, they're it's it's crazy. Like you see them on TV. You see them making their like videos, you see them doing their content, and they're like these like larger than life young women. And then you get them in a room them getting ready for the draft and then they go back to their like little just shy, nervous like young girls. Like it was it's so funny seeing them in both dynamics. But we went to a dinner and I got to talk with some of them and they asked us a lot of questions and they are very they were very much in tune with like the free agency stuff and how crazy and chaotic it is. So I think they were all just like really excited to be there. And then the next day we did like a panel and basically just gave them some advice and they got to do all their rookie stuff and it was amazing because I remember my rookie my draft weekend was like two days, like we were there, we had meetings all day, then we had the draft and then we went home and that was it. And here this year it was like this whole elaborate weekend full of activations and sponsorships and fun stuff.
00:03:49
Speaker 3: So it was really it was really special.
00:03:51
Speaker 2: For me personally to be involved in that because sometimes I feel like the work that I've done throughout my career gets overlooked because you know, the stats, don't you know align, they don't jump off the paper. But I feel like sometimes I'm like, damn, am I like making an impact in this league, even even with the bullshit I deal with on the court, and I am. So that was really fun. And then we did some iHeart stuff. So you miss you missed the photo shoot, il I was told, So maybe they'll photo shop you in or something.
00:04:26
Speaker 4: I hope.
00:04:26
Speaker 2: So yeah, and you're and you're justin Bieber fits the picture just for that.
00:04:36
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah that coach Ella.
00:04:39
Speaker 4: That is a whole other side thing.
00:04:41
Speaker 1: But I I do get what you're saying about like seeing the girls on TV versus like being with them in real life, like having interviewed them and like done panels and et cetera. I forget how young they are, but I get nervous. I'm like, oh my god, I'm about to do this panel with like Yukon players.
00:04:57
Speaker 3: And then I'm like, I'm really, they're made, please, I was.
00:05:02
Speaker 2: I was real Auntie like, and I'm happy that we were there with Ac, Neka and Tina because they're Auntie's for real, I'm like a baby baby Auntie, like a baby Vet. And then obviously Georgia is still very much a rookie low key, but like even having her there and hearing her experiences with the mystics and coming back from her injury. Like I've never really talked to Georgia before. I interviewed her once during the ACC tournament, but it was like really quick after they want the ACC tournament. But getting to know her was amazing. And then obviously I was with Ac and Tina in Nashville. I know Mo Billings really well. She actually told us about the Fever signing before it officially dropped, so that was exciting to experience that news getting released in real time. Like we were literally just talking at the Players Association office and then the news dropped.
00:05:52
Speaker 3: Like we were just like I just have been waiting.
00:05:54
Speaker 4: Patiently to talk to you about all this news. This.
00:05:58
Speaker 3: Where do you want to start?
00:05:59
Speaker 4: Okay?
00:05:59
Speaker 2: Wait, do we want want to do we want to talk draft now and then all the other stuff.
00:06:04
Speaker 3: Or do you want to talk to other stuff and then finish with the draft? We get finished with the draft. We get finished.
00:06:08
Speaker 4: I'm like, because that's such a high note.
00:06:10
Speaker 3: I wants to get Bessie. Guys, no, because I just have to know.
00:06:14
Speaker 4: Okay, first of all, I think let's start with something fine.
00:06:17
Speaker 3: Okay, Nika in the balloons?
00:06:19
Speaker 4: What was yours?
00:06:22
Speaker 2: So when I saw that post, I texted her immediately and you know that uh that meme where it's the mask with the smiley face and then he's like angry crying, And I sent her that and I was like, I was like happy for you, Meka, because I was like, damn, not Minnesota. And then she was like, eirl, I'm just on a visit. And I said, which is so funny.
00:06:51
Speaker 4: They did all that.
00:06:53
Speaker 2: And it was so funny because I was like, because that's not even that's not even like Cheryl's energy.
00:06:59
Speaker 3: To do all that.
00:07:00
Speaker 2: So I was asking her about it and she's like, no, she was like the visit was great.
00:07:04
Speaker 3: Like she was like, that was hilarious. And then I was like, now, now.
00:07:08
Speaker 2: How you took control of that narrative and just started spamming Instagram and TikTok with all of these gifts and jokes was hilarious. So she was like, I was nervous, but she's like, she has like a social media like person that helps her with her stuff. And the girl was like, nah, y'all need to we need to take advantage of this moment and make light of it. So that was hilarious to talk to her about that. And it was interesting that her two choices were Mini in La after she came on the show and talked about how iconic that rivalry was and the fact that she's going back to La, which for me wasn't very surprising. She's always wanted to retire in La, so honestly, when that announcement was made, I was more surprised about the Mini the Minnesota thing, but her going back to LA. I was like, yeah, like that's where she wants to finish her career, so it makes sense.
00:08:01
Speaker 3: I'm sad to see her go, obviously.
00:08:04
Speaker 1: I thought it ate also that Cheney did the bomb like the tree of course.
00:08:10
Speaker 2: Yeah, she's back in LA with today was up here. I saw Chenee too, and I mean, I just Neka deserves to ride off into the sunset on her terms and where she wants to be, and that's exactly what she's going to do in LA and they, I mean, they're building a little squad over there. Any team with Neca on their on their team as a contender obviously. So that was hilarious. The balloon gate, the WNBA wouldn't be the WNBA if some ship like that didn't happen.
00:08:39
Speaker 3: I loved it.
00:08:42
Speaker 2: Company right, but I was like that just like further proves like how big the.
00:08:48
Speaker 3: World is, Like people are just like no.
00:08:52
Speaker 2: Nika said that the guy who set it up like he had an idea of like what was going on. So I was like, so were they being messy? Were they really trying to have a viral one? Like you really don't know what people like what was going through their heads? Like people are like really like so aloof to certain parts.
00:09:08
Speaker 3: Of siety like them for a balloon, right.
00:09:12
Speaker 2: I know it might be though, I'm telling you that's not even Sheryl's Like, that's not even her thing.
00:09:18
Speaker 3: Like the fact that they did all of that.
00:09:21
Speaker 2: Was very shocking, which is why I think a lot of people were like, is this real?
00:09:25
Speaker 4: Right?
00:09:26
Speaker 1: And I'm bouncing around a bit here, But speaking of many, I was gagged watching the draft. I don't know if you saw my video, but I was gagged down because I didn't realize that Chicago.
00:09:38
Speaker 4: Gave them the second pick.
00:09:40
Speaker 1: I say gave but you know, but basically gave them the second pick in the draft. Chicago, Go Chicago. Shout out to Olivia Miles because that I feel like it's so best case scenario. Like I feel like a lot of people, especially Mini fans, were my comments like disappointed in their moves and probably because they thought they were going to have back at first, I get it.
00:10:01
Speaker 2: Up and down nothing because their whole team the sun up. Yeah, like their team. But I want I want people to understand, Like I know, I don't think people are really realizing the gravity of this new CBA. People chose to be unrestricted free agents for a reason. People are trying to get paid. There can be only one team that wins the championship at the end of the day. So it got to a point where teams, you know, you want to win, you want to try and win a championship, but you see these new numbers on the way and the sun sunrise over there, and you're like, no, I'm trying to get paid. So even like these mass departures from teams that people are like completely shocked by, I'm just like, are you guys not like wrapping your mind around like what this really has meant to so many players, Like you get to a point in your season where you're like, okay, like we can win kind of but definitely can get paid.
00:11:01
Speaker 3: That's just guaranteed, well guarantia.
00:11:04
Speaker 1: They they soft launched this when they were they they were I think they're on stream.
00:11:09
Speaker 2: Like yeah, they're gonna be millionaires, and I don't know everybody, I don't know why everyone was laughing at them for that, because hello, it should happened quick too, immediately.
00:11:21
Speaker 3: Right right, So happy for the people.
00:11:24
Speaker 1: They can be on stream all winter and all spring.
00:11:28
Speaker 4: The season ain't that long. They don't still get together and do their streams and.
00:11:31
Speaker 2: The exactly it'll be fine. Share the stud bud love. It need to be it needs to be spreading.
00:11:37
Speaker 4: It'll be like us. They can do FaceTime like us exactly.
00:11:40
Speaker 3: Everything will be fine, the stud buzz will be okay. Trust me.
00:11:59
Speaker 1: So the next thing I want to ask you about, Lexi, I feel like I'm like hijacking, but I've like been like I've been conserving not texting you because I'm.
00:12:07
Speaker 4: Like I have to talk to her. What I see. We didn't talk about.
00:12:10
Speaker 3: Chicago, Yeah, I don't.
00:12:16
Speaker 2: Obviously they reloaded, but any any moves that they made from like your they were like almost last so it's like you can't really go anywhere but.
00:12:26
Speaker 3: Up at this point, Like that's that's.
00:12:29
Speaker 2: The funny part about like the discourse around the team is like any addition from last season's team is an upgrade because last season's team did so poorly. I was surprised with the Rakia Tree. That surprised me. I wasn't necessarily surprised about Sky going over there because that's that's home. That's close to home for her as a Ray was like kind of soft launching Chicago for like a long time, and everyone kind of didn't really peep.
00:12:59
Speaker 3: Who else did they say? Sign I mean I think that.
00:13:05
Speaker 2: Oh, Indijana, who I don't even know if she's going to be healthy for the beginning of the season. So all the all the conversation surrounding the organization, like the the organization is still the organization that it is now when you add these players with this amount of star power, Like what does that mean for the organization moving forward?
00:13:26
Speaker 3: That's my question.
00:13:27
Speaker 2: There's still with they They're still going to be practicing in the rec center with the old ladies, in the in the locker room with y'all. That was I think it's amazing that, like this seems like they're heading in the right direction right from a personnel perspective, but the organization is still an organization, So like what's going to happen there?
00:13:51
Speaker 3: I don't know.
00:13:52
Speaker 2: Like I sold y'all last week, I was in Chicago for five minutes and I said, I don't ever want to come back here.
00:14:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, So I's there's a few things that it made me think of. Number one is like, I mean, really fun players and dynamic players to watch, and they definitely, they definitely they lost a lot of attention to attention currency when they lost Angel and then they.
00:14:19
Speaker 4: They doubled back for sure.
00:14:21
Speaker 1: But I it's Chicago's a championship organization, right, and so they they're not new to having stars. Angel was a star. You were on a star roster there. They're not new to having stars. It's keeping them that has always been the problem. I actually read a really good article in The Athletic about all the stars that they've lost and like why and what's happened, and.
00:14:40
Speaker 2: It's they've got generational fumbles over and over and over. Also, you win a championship and then like you tore like you, it's like self inflicted. I've never seen a team win a championship and then have like a decent season the next year.
00:14:56
Speaker 3: And then I think.
00:14:57
Speaker 2: They've said yesterday, they've had three straight years of losing record, Like the organization recently won a championship and it's amazing.
00:15:07
Speaker 3: Said the thing.
00:15:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, And well, I mean it was bad when you know, I mean we finished sixth place, guys, Like again, that championship run was incredible, but we finished like we were sixth place. We finished like rate of five hundred, so that the playoff run was was cinderellaike. Then the next season, you know, you kind of offload the players that helped you win. Then the coach decides to leave in the middle of the season, and it's just been really bad since then, and they haven't really been able to recover from that. So, like in their defense, when you have a coach that does some weird shit like that, I've never seen a coach just be like, Oh, I'm going to go coach in the NBA now, Tata And that's exactly what happened, And that was odd, and I don't think that the organization necessarily has recovered from that yet. But like I said, it looks like they're turning the page. I wonder what their plan is moving forward. Are they gonna build around Camilla? Is she gonna be a key piece in their offense? Are they gonna build around I mean they have I mean, people can say what they want about Slut. Slut is an excellent Hall of Fame point guard. You pair her with Sky who does like to play the two sometimes Sky Courtney and uh Kiya. That's like a pretty solid backcourt if we're being honest, if we're gonna keep it a hundred, that like, that's a very high IQ and a very high powered scoring backcourt.
00:16:49
Speaker 3: If they utilize that.
00:16:50
Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know what they're gonna do over there, but they have pieces, and they had pieces last year too. It just didn't work out, And that's it just happens sometimes that way, like the same way we have pieces and it didn't work out.
00:17:01
Speaker 3: Like sometimes you just got to make a move.
00:17:03
Speaker 2: And what's the better way to make a move When the whole damn league is an unrestricted free agent, you don't got to trade and get people in their feelings. People can just simply pick and choose where they want to go play basketball at. But I do think I was very surprised by the trade, the Rakia trade, that was very thing.
00:17:22
Speaker 3: But I think she's gonna thrive. I think she.
00:17:24
Speaker 2: I mean, I've always thought even when she was my rookie, I like saw, I saw so much potential in her, even though I was dealing with you know what, I was dealing with being getting healthy and all that. I always thought that she was going to be a star. And she's coming into her own for sure. So I'm excited for I'm excited for her. I am excited to see the Chicago roster. I'm excited to see a lot of these rosters who else made some who else made some crazy moves.
00:17:52
Speaker 4: I will say, I'm down south. I am very happy.
00:17:57
Speaker 2: I'm very happy turned out the way y'all were, the way y'all were able to keep that. If they're able to keep that core group together, and they're gonna be yeah, but they're very they're very top heavy.
00:18:12
Speaker 3: Some of these teams are very top heavy.
00:18:15
Speaker 2: And guys, you have you have to carry twelve now Loki fourteen not lowkey, high key fourteen players. Now, that's never been that's never happened before. Like, yeah, I know, we're like, yeah, one forty four, one forty four, but really it's really like one thirty two, one thirty three.
00:18:32
Speaker 3: That's really what it's been like the last few years.
00:18:35
Speaker 2: So teams legitimately having to carry twelve players and the two developmental players, like, we've never seen rosters being built this way. So, yes, you get your stars, you get your your superstars, you build your core group. I'm very interested to see how everybody fills out their rosters. And with all the games that we're playing, the traveling I hope that we don't see the six seventh person rotations no more. I don't want to see it. I don't want to.
00:19:08
Speaker 3: See six d MPs.
00:19:11
Speaker 2: Coaches, please, we don't want to see that. Six DMPs would be crazy. You have twelve players, like.
00:19:20
Speaker 3: Literally unheard of.
00:19:21
Speaker 2: I don't think I've been on a team ever with twelve healthy players to start the season. Now that I'm thinking about it, so I'm excited. I know y'all are excited in Atlanta. Keep that same energy. Please, they deserve it, you fickle fans down there.
00:19:36
Speaker 1: With Angel here, I genuinely don't think that's about to happen, because you want if it's one day.
00:19:41
Speaker 4: I know about this city.
00:19:44
Speaker 1: They we love a black woman and we love a star, and Angel is both.
00:19:47
Speaker 4: Of those things.
00:19:48
Speaker 1: So I think she is getting rallied behind, especially considering I went to buy my sister tickets to Wing's Dream.
00:20:00
Speaker 2: I wanted to kill her, Like how much are the ticket prices?
00:20:04
Speaker 1: It was just like this guy's saying, LEXI, like damn, it was so od, Like it was so od.
00:20:09
Speaker 4: It was like it's hundreds.
00:20:11
Speaker 3: It's hundreds to.
00:20:12
Speaker 4: Get in the door. It's because it's so small.
00:20:14
Speaker 3: It's so tiny.
00:20:16
Speaker 2: I have seen a lot of complaints about, you know, the ticket prices and stuff, but I'm like, everything going up, y'all. That's a sad price going up, price going up. We appreciate y'all still pulling up and supporting because.
00:20:30
Speaker 4: It's important the thing that means the demand is.
00:20:32
Speaker 2: There exactly exactly, or people are just being weird and greedy resellers, resellers talking to you.
00:20:42
Speaker 4: But Beiji is going to Connecticut.
00:20:44
Speaker 2: Beg's Connecticut, which will soon be Houston. Yes, that's gonna be fun to see her in that environment. I don't know, like it was kind of like a random signing, but I understand if the whole point was to eventually get back to Texas to finish out her career, that makes a lot of sense. She's going to get the bag. Atlanta didn't have the money to pay her obviously what she deserves, because I will say, there are a lot of veterans in this league that are getting paid right now simply of the off the fact that their contributions to the league over their careers deserves to.
00:21:26
Speaker 3: Be compensated fairly.
00:21:28
Speaker 2: Not saying that they don't deserve it because of their play, but if teams have money to spend on vets that have been so integral to the success of this league, like a Bgold, you should.
00:21:38
Speaker 3: Pay her whatever she asks for.
00:21:40
Speaker 2: And I'm not upset at that at all because the salary cap is so high, so it's not really that big of a deal anymore to pay a veteran what she wants because there's so much money. There are so many teams with a lot of money left on their salary caps, and I think also now moving forward, teams may not even use their entire salary caps, so there can be money for trades. And then you gotta think long term. If you max out your salary cap off the first season, then it's hard for you to even like build your roster for the future, like next year's draft class, or if you want another on restricted free agent, And if you already maxed out your salary cap, you kind of put yourself in a predicament where you're stuck with players.
00:22:28
Speaker 3: So there's there's gonna be new there's new money.
00:22:32
Speaker 2: Here, so there's new decision making, and we saw it in the draft last night. I think the draft surprised a lot of people, not really me. The only big surprise of the draft was was Flagy getting traded getting traded? I know, yeah, like it was funny. So, like I was watching the draft and then I stopped watching for a little bit, and then I watched I think I stopped watching after the first round, and I was just following it on my phone, and all of a sudden, I just saw like Flag's name everywhere, and I was like, she got drafted like thirty minutes ago. What's going on? And then the other they said the trade.
00:23:11
Speaker 3: Go to dinner.
00:23:11
Speaker 4: I was like, I gotta go get some Chipotle. I'm hungry, y'all. I gotta go.
00:23:15
Speaker 3: I'm in the car.
00:23:16
Speaker 4: My sister was spam calling me. I was like, what happened? Yup? How about that? That's so exciting.
00:23:22
Speaker 3: No, it's exciting.
00:23:23
Speaker 2: I mean our team we got I said, we're the young hoes for real, Seattle, right, Yeah, y'all know me. I'm young forever. Okay, and youre really are. That trade was incredible. And I know a lot of people are confused. Trades on draft night happened all the time. Okay, that's not a rare occurrence. It happens. Actually, Natitia, my now teammate, got traded on her draft night to Connecticut. That's how I got to Minnesota. So like it's I've been traded on the draft night before. So they explained it, like our GM explained that they wanted to move up in the draft and the only way that would happen is via trade. And I think where the there was maybe like a disconnect with the prior agreement was that Flaje dropped to eight.
00:24:20
Speaker 3: And I don't think that.
00:24:21
Speaker 2: I don't maybe think the Valkyries maybe expected her to be available at eight. I don't think a lot of mock drafts had her available at eight. And if it was agreed upon before the draft, there's nothing you can do. You can't back out of that. So I don't the both GM said like it wasn't like a gon ste thing, it wasn't a Flage thing. It was a Seattle storm wanting another first round draft pick thing, and it just happened to be Flaje, Which, shit, that's a that's an excellent pickup.
00:24:54
Speaker 4: Want to when.
00:24:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, So I'm really excited. I think we did a great job in the draft. People were kind of clowning us, you know, during this free agency period and everybody's like, yes see, I don't know, I don't come over here with that now, Okay. I was making fun of us a few days ago and we really came up in the draft, Like, I'm really excited.
00:25:25
Speaker 3: It's a great opportunity.
00:25:28
Speaker 2: We are going to be tallest shit at times, and we're gonna be running, We're gonna be fast. These are all just my ideas, guys, I don't know anything.
00:25:37
Speaker 3: These are just the.
00:25:38
Speaker 2: Ideas that I've had seeing how our roster is shaping up.
00:25:42
Speaker 3: And it's exciting. It's exciting.
00:25:44
Speaker 2: But yeah, getting traded on draft night, I'm sure is like a mix of a lot of emotions, especially when you probably didn't expect that. But that's why sports is so much fun and Draft night is so much fun. And can we talk about the UCLA real quick? Yes, six USA players.
00:26:04
Speaker 1: You said a team needs at least two WNBA players to win a championship.
00:26:08
Speaker 3: They had six.
00:26:09
Speaker 2: Six Again, the overall lack of coverage for this UCLA team is mind boggling, mind boggling, and people still being confused why they were running through their season. This is why they had six WNBA players on their team. Of course they should be thirty two and one or whatever. They finished their season like this is We don't see this on anywhere but in stores maybe Notre Dame sometimes, but the last time we saw this was that Notre Dame team with Jackie and Marina and Arique. We haven't seen a team the sacks in the long and some years. That was great, So shout out to UCLA. I think the the Chicago skypick of Gabriella kind of threw people off a little bit. But we said last week there was a lot of players. I didn't specifically name names on purpose, but I said there was a lot of players that played themselves up into a higher draft position, and.
00:27:09
Speaker 3: She was one of them.
00:27:11
Speaker 2: That was probably like the one person that came to mind when I when I mentioned that. And look what happened, top five pick, which is amazing. So what is Chile gonna do now, I don't know. Losing six w BA players, that team is gonna look very different next year, whichever I'm sure everyone into LA is like great. Now we can go back to talking about USC.
00:27:33
Speaker 4: Or USC.
00:27:35
Speaker 2: And Juju're gonna be back, Juju back.
00:27:39
Speaker 3: All is right in LA.
00:27:40
Speaker 4: You know, as you just say they needed to win this year, Good for that.
00:27:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, because is over with Unfortunately, is us see time again.
00:27:49
Speaker 1: Before we fully move on from the free agency. I gotta go back across the country.
00:27:54
Speaker 4: Can we talk about New York?
00:27:57
Speaker 3: What about Liberty?
00:28:00
Speaker 4: Yeah?
00:28:00
Speaker 3: What about them? So too?
00:28:06
Speaker 4: Did that? I got you?
00:28:07
Speaker 2: She said, Sis Sipoo, I'm taking your spot. Thank you. I was surprised that she left Phoenix. I was definitely surprised that she left Phoenix. But it seems like who did Phoenix get?
00:28:20
Speaker 3: I don't know. It was like less about her signing to New York and more about her leaving Phoenix. That surprised me, if that makes sense.
00:28:29
Speaker 2: So that signing was crazy, Well, everybody and they Mama knew that JJ Stewe and Sabrina wasn't going nowhere, so that was not surprising. I'm waiting to see what they do with Benija, who I think people will forgot was part of that Liberty team. Benija's so good at basketball, guys, I don't I don't know. If y'all are new here, y'all probably aren't really familiar with Benija, But that girl can go and go get her her a bucket quickly, and she's a great defender like she's.
00:29:04
Speaker 3: I don't know if they I don't know if they have the money to keep her. I don't know. If they did sign her or not. I don't even know.
00:29:11
Speaker 4: It says that, yeah, she just she just signed.
00:29:15
Speaker 3: Oh she did sign they did keep her.
00:29:18
Speaker 1: No no, no no, you were asking, you were asking what the liberty gave up to get Sawtu that she just they just signed her like it didn't say anything.
00:29:27
Speaker 3: Who is they?
00:29:29
Speaker 4: The liberty, the liberty, liberty.
00:29:31
Speaker 3: They liberty just signed Benija.
00:29:32
Speaker 1: She was not trading. She was not traded but left in free age. No, I'm talking about saw too.
00:29:37
Speaker 2: Oh satu. Yeah yeah, see because see here we go. This is you know, fun, fun salary cap we could because now it's fun to look at the salary cap.
00:29:48
Speaker 3: Guys.
00:29:49
Speaker 2: The way that I just continually to be be gagged over and over when these one million dollar contracts kept popping up on my timeline, like like we didn't negotiate that ship for six months, Like even seeing it being posted about is like just so amazing, Like it's so crazy, like that the numbers that are coming through on the on these contracts, like it it's mind blowing. It's it's it's it's so amying, like we're so proud of this moment. Asy Fudd making half a million dollars. Yeah, rookie contract gonna be like two million dollars. Like it's it's beautiful, guys, Like, it's just it's so crazy, it's just so deserved. Before we get into the free agents that are so remaining, because there there is a lot of players still not signed. Are they going to do like a drone show in Vegas or something to announce Asia Wilson's new contract because they haven't said nothing.
00:30:54
Speaker 3: About her deal. What if she when she said that break the internet?
00:31:01
Speaker 2: No way, there's no way, there's no way, there's no way, absolutely not.
00:31:06
Speaker 3: How how how insane would that be?
00:31:11
Speaker 2: Girl?
00:31:12
Speaker 3: If she was like, you know what, I'm going over here, I'm not.
00:31:15
Speaker 4: Even playing these No, absolutely not. That would be funny though.
00:31:22
Speaker 3: But now that would be crazy.
00:31:25
Speaker 2: But like, yeah, she was, she she was. She was talking about the draft picks last night on threads. I saw some of her threads. She ain't going nowhere. But I'm like, what kind of announcement is she gonna get? Because it's gonna be it's they have to be creative because obviously everyone's like she's she's not going anywhere, right, So it's I'm very much looking forward to how they announced that they're resigning Asia Wilson back to the Aces because the so there's that.
00:31:58
Speaker 3: Who else?
00:31:59
Speaker 2: So all of the available free agents, I'm on the little page right now that's showing like all the available free agents.
00:32:04
Speaker 3: Look, guys, it's kind of a lot. It's kind of a lot.
00:32:10
Speaker 2: Well and actually not that many because some of them like Kea Nurse got signed to Toronto, Free Turner got signed to Vegas.
00:32:18
Speaker 3: I think.
00:32:21
Speaker 2: I'm waiting on if anybody's gonna sign Odyssey. That's a big one. That's a big one for me. If if if Odyssey is gonna get signed, especially after the way she played in AU, I'm surprised that she hasn't been signed yet. And then where Natasha Cloud is gonna end up? Like, well, I thought she was in New York down me too, But I guess we can all see, man, because at the end of the day, the business does creep in at some point. Well, after all, like the rainbows and sunshines of the new CBA and the new money and this rookie class being the first you know, millionaire class, after all that does settles. Then you get back to like the business of it, and it's it's hard. It's a tough business to be in, So keep that in mind, guys. With all these transactions and this is just the beginning, There's gonna be more to come. Things are going to happen throughout a season like there's no That's what I love about sports.
00:33:26
Speaker 3: There's no predicting how anything is going to go like that. You can't.
00:33:29
Speaker 2: It's impossible, but I want, especially these new fans. It's so funny Draft night, you know, you get the influx of the new fans who don't know anything about the WNBA. It's the same conversations every single Draft night, every single start of the season. It's the same shit, like all these new baby infant fans learning as they go and buckle up because y'all are in for a ride. But it's a fun ride. No, it's going to be so fun. It's fun and I can just feel I just the energies. It's just shifted completely and as nasty as it sounds, it's because of the money.
00:34:07
Speaker 3: Like that it is. It is because of the money. But that's the reality, and everybody's eating. Oh. Another conversation that I've been.
00:34:14
Speaker 2: Seeing on some socials is the international players getting drafted and how people are like, why are there's so many internationals games? We try to tell y'all, try to tell y'all, like months ago, that they're coming. They're coming because now the money makes sense for them to leave their homes and come over here and play. It makes sense now. And in order for the league to contain, to continue to sustain this growth, we have to become more global. The w has to be more global. We as players are already very global because of how many of us play overseas, and essentially we've been doing the same thing to them. We've been going over there and going on their teams and taking the their spots and their money, you know, to to further our professional careers here. So now they're coming over here. I don't think they're taking anybody's spots. We have more spots than ever available and more coming. But in order for the league to get to another level, it has to become truly a global game. So that I think these players overseas are super talented. But I think it's also it's also a business move.
00:35:27
Speaker 3: In the NBA.
00:35:28
Speaker 2: We've already seen in the NBA how global the NBA has become, and that's like then that's gonna be the next step. We're gonna see more international players playing in the WNBA. And I don't think I don't think it's a bad thing at all. I think it's amazing because it's only going to promote growth for everybody and because of the new CBA. When the league grows, so it's our salaries.
00:35:52
Speaker 3: Right, See how this all everybody needs.
00:35:58
Speaker 2: Everybody eats, literally, that's like the phrase that needs to be like the phrase of our league this year.
00:36:05
Speaker 3: Everybody eats. Honestly. What else happened last night? Drift? Oh, we got to talk about the fit, the outfits. Who's best dressed clause? A second dress? Yeah, that was beautiful.
00:36:34
Speaker 2: That was so good, Like that was dressed, her hair, the makeup, it was so beautiful. I will say this, this might have been like the best dressed group.
00:36:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, they were like I say that.
00:36:48
Speaker 2: I feel like I say that every year, though, but I get rid every year. I was talking to oh no, because I was talking to who was at my table?
00:36:59
Speaker 3: It was.
00:37:02
Speaker 2: It was me, it was Olivia, it was Asy and it was one more player she got drafted to. She was from TCUH. I can't remember her name. She was so sweet oh Marta, Marta the one actually we drafted and traded Marta. So we were all sitting there and I was like, oh, yeah, you guys, what are you guys wearing for the draft?
00:37:30
Speaker 3: This was Friday? This was Friday. Oh yeah, we have fittings tomorrow.
00:37:38
Speaker 2: Bro. I got my I got my draft dress off Revolve. I ordered my dress online on Revolve. So they had their fittings and they were they were just like, we don't know where we're gonna wear, but we have our fittings tomorrow.
00:37:52
Speaker 3: And I'm like, you guys are just so period.
00:37:55
Speaker 2: That was just so like this I just when I was just sitting there talking to them, and I hope that they could feel like my genuine excitement for them that the WNBA now is like a destination and it's not just a oh, like well that's just the next that's just the next part of a career, Like the WNBA is like the place now. And I hope that they understand how important they are moving forward for the growth of the league, because essentially, like this is the this is their shit now, Like y'all going to get the keys, So you guys have to come correct and understand that this is just the beginning. And then Mecca came a little bit later and she sat at our table and like, basically she was just reiterating the fact that we worked our asses off for the CBA, and y'all can't be complacent with this deal because in seven years we're going to be back at the table with them again and they probably gonna tell us we're doing too much, we're asking for too much again, and we have to make sure that we don't allow them to put doubt in our minds and fracture the group. I think the best thing about our league was just how together we stood throughout the whole negotiation period, and just that the fact that we really prioritized the rookies. We really prioritized everybody really, but definitely the rookies, and we provided them an environment where they could feel safe and protected and fairly compensated for all the work that they put in their whole lives. So I just I was so like just not amazed by them. But it's just like the things that they deal with through college now, with nil and the attention and the Internet and all that stuff, and the fact that they still get to this level and are playing at a high level, like it's very impressive. As much as I would have loved and I l I don't know if I would. I don't know how well I would have done in this era of college.
00:39:51
Speaker 3: I'm a sensitive girl.
00:39:53
Speaker 2: I don't know if I would be able to handle all this craziness as a college kid. You know.
00:40:01
Speaker 3: So they're they're doing it, they're doing it.
00:40:05
Speaker 2: But even we were even having conversations with them, and they were just like, how do you guys deal with, you know, people being mean on the internet.
00:40:12
Speaker 3: And I said, I said, log off, baby, that's.
00:40:16
Speaker 2: It, I said. It sounds so simple and easy. Don't deal with it. You just got to ignore them, guys. You really just have to ignore them and understand that you're living out your dreams and be happy about that and continue just to be a good person and walk with with love and light and follow your passion and all that kind of stuff and everything else. You just have to let it roll off your shoulders. And then Olivia was like, what if you have a mean teammate? How do you deal with mean teammates? If like the vets are mean, I'm like me and Ekka just started laughing. We're like, girl, that like doesn't really happen anymore. We've all we've all matured throughout this process, and you know, rookies gonna get rookie shit obviously because they're rookies, but like the above and beyond making rookies feel uncomfortable and that like they don't belong, like the shit them like love and basketball when they were all like really mean to her when she got to college and no, yeah, at least not for me from my vet perspective. And then even what Nekka said, like I'm not interested in doing that. I want us to all get along and have fun and win games like that. I've never understood. I've actually never understood hazing period. I think I've always thought it was a weird, a weird thing that people do, Like why are we why are we doing this? Yeah, this is weird for everybody. So yeah, I've had a great weekend in New York. I mean it's Tuesday now. I feel like I've been here for three years.
00:41:51
Speaker 3: That's how it feels there. Our time moves, man.
00:41:54
Speaker 2: I fly home tomorrow to Florida and then I fly so tomorrow be Wednesday, and then I have to be in Seattle Thursday, and then it's time to work.
00:42:04
Speaker 3: Y'all.
00:42:05
Speaker 2: By the time we move so fast, by the time we have our next episode, we will have started training camp.
00:42:11
Speaker 3: Isn't that crazy?
00:42:12
Speaker 1: Yes, it moved so fast, Like by so fast draft is today?
00:42:17
Speaker 4: Wasn't the championship like last week?
00:42:19
Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, this off season has gone by so fast, Like I can't believe I'm about to be in training camp again.
00:42:27
Speaker 3: I literally feel like it feels like.
00:42:28
Speaker 1: It was two days because of the CBA negotiations a free agency in the draft were like.
00:42:34
Speaker 3: Boom boom boom.
00:42:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I like, I really felt like I just packed up my ship and left Seattle, Like I really can't believe that. How you start training camp in a few days.
00:42:47
Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm.
00:42:48
Speaker 2: Excited, y'all. I mean, I was excited to get into two things. This season is going to be very different from last season.
00:42:56
Speaker 3: Clearly it is.
00:42:57
Speaker 2: I'm just excited that you guys get to be on the arning with us. It's gonna be fun. I'm gonna bring the girls on the show. I'm gonna do better at that this summer.
00:43:07
Speaker 4: Good.
00:43:08
Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm excited.
00:43:10
Speaker 2: I hope y'all feel good about the draft and are excited for this rookie class and already for the season to get going. Because this year thirty for the w that's all. Give my flowers too before we leave. I'll give my flowers to the WNBA thirty years. The WNBA has been around as long as I have been living on this earth, which I think is amazing.
00:43:33
Speaker 3: Wow, that's beautiful.
00:43:36
Speaker 1: I'm gonna give mine to the draftees. What did a special accomplishment? You guys get to live out your dreams and like taking the moment.
00:43:45
Speaker 3: It's it's all very special.
00:43:48
Speaker 2: We are going to have a time, Okay, the Seattle Storm of the young Hoes. I'm trying to think of the other teams that are as young as us or younger. I would say maybe the Mystics. They were the young Hoses last year.
00:44:05
Speaker 3: Tudo.
00:44:06
Speaker 2: If y'all and if y'all are offended by this, just go on TikTok and just look it up.
00:44:10
Speaker 3: It's a trend right now.
00:44:11
Speaker 2: They were saying, they were saying it au you know, LEXI, I was not hit to the young hose, old hose. Okay, Yeah, So that's what that's what we're going to be.
00:44:24
Speaker 3: Unless somebody is like, no, Lexi, We're not going to be that. And then I'll pivot.
00:44:29
Speaker 2: But and right now, I'm excited about this team that we're putting together. I'm excited for training camp. Aria is excited for the dream. This summer is going to be so much fun and exciting. So yeah, thanks for kicking it with us again. This has been another episode of Full Circle. We will see y'all next week. Bye.
