SOBRE ESTE EPISÓDIO
Nobody hands you a playbook when they hand you the title.
In this episode, I sit down with Ryan Mainey, Co-founder and Partner of XM Performance, to talk about the moment every high performer eventually faces: you're good at your job, you get promoted, and suddenly nine people are looking at you for answers nobody taught you how to give. We talk about why title never comes up when people describe the leaders who actually shaped them, what it looks like to lead a team through turmoil instead of waiting for things to feel perfect, and how to navigate change management, including the very real fear that AI is coming for someone's job, without losing your team's trust along the way.
Ryan shares the situation, behavior, impact formula he uses to turn feedback into a 4X multiplier for a leader's team, the difference between walking into an existing team and building a department from nothing, and why respect and trust get built in moments, not over years of showing up. We also get into blind spots and the Johari window, how to tell when it's genuinely time to leave an organization, and the T-shirt question every person on your team is quietly asking, where do I stand, and is there a plan.
If you've ever stepped into a leadership role and wondered whether you were actually qualified for it, this conversation will change how you think about that. Ask yourself, what would shift if you stopped waiting for a title to make you a leader and started showing up like one today? Don't miss the full episode of Confident Authority.
