GREETINGS FROM MARGATE!
Welcome to episode 18 of Buddy’s Buddies! This week I am joined by a guest who is technically living in the past… Can you imagine such a thing? No seriously he’s like 7 hours behind us. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome all the way from San Bruno USA, producer CONTROLLER 7 (aka Tommy)!
* Note - I decided to use a weird old mic for the intro, which is why it sounds kinda freaky on the intro and outro parts... Just wanted to give it a shot!
––––– PART 2 of 2 –––––
He’s been a pal of mine for around 20 years by now, and I’ve been a fan all the along. His music is, for ease of comparison, like ‘Endtroducing’ era DJ Shadow, mixed with a lot of LA sunshine and psychedelic sample sources but with those gorgeous drums. Ugh. Love em. Anyway I’ve been flexing with some online recording action of late, trying to prepare myself for the new normal and all, and I decided to finally SPEAK to my friend of 20 years - so you hear the first moment we do that! It’s wild. I also go into some detail about his music and try and set some context for what he’s been doing over the years in a longer intro than usual - it’s not a self indulgent ramble, honestly. I really wanted to try and set the scene just so you have a bit of background on Tommy and it’s not just some random dude I’m chatting with.
We get into the big stuff, the life stuff, the weirdness of making music, where the inspiration comes from, the process, how we’re handling this current era, music biz thoughts, his new project with rapper Mestizo called ‘Couch’, and loads more - so much more that I split it into two parts! So thank you ever so much for being part of it and listening, and know that you are appreciated and, yes, loved. Now go listen you some Controller 7.
