Text me what you think of today’s episode!
A house can change your mind—or demand that you finally trust it. We sit down with paranormal investigator and tour manager Christy Parrish to trace her path from a silenced childhood sensitive to the steward of one of Massachusetts’ most active and historic homes: the Oliver House in Middleboro.
Christy recounts the Tennessee years that forced her to take her abilities seriously: a violent strike in an empty bathroom, a chilling 911 call traced to her landline, and a barrage of phenomena that drove her to build her own experiments when outside teams walked away. You’ll hear how “ghost mats,” powder-dusted surfaces, and patient EVP sessions led to one of her most startling cases—Peg Leg Eddie—complete with footprints, a confirmed toe bone, and the peace that followed.
Then we step into the Oliver House, a 1760s landmark where Revolutionary War history collides with careful investigation. Christy and a dedicated volunteer crew blend technical rigor and empathy to document at least fifteen resident spirits, including a chambermaid tied to the saga of Governor Thomas Hutchinson’s letters and Benjamin Franklin’s fateful visit. We explore how Loyalist archives, Franklin’s retrieval, and the judge’s ammunition mill shaped the run-up to revolution—and why telling that story matters as much as any EVP.
What makes this conversation different is the model: accessible public tours, pro nights for seasoned investigators, and daytime history walks that fund preservation without sensationalism. Guests learn to use equipment, separate real signals from noise, and engage with respect. Along the way, we share our own visit highlights, from the “house dog” brushing an ankle to a device blurting “bacon… eggs” at the exact closet linked to Franklin’s letters.
If you care about haunted places, Revolutionary history, or how community-powered programs can keep fragile sites alive, this one’s for you. Subscribe, share this episode with a friend who loves ghost stories and archives, and leave a review to help more curious listeners find the show.

00:00:00.560 --> 00:00:01.919
Happy Halloween.
00:00:02.399 --> 00:00:17.760
As we get ready to close out spooky October, I am so happy to be able to share with you an encore episode from our conversation with Paranormal Investigator and Ghost Tour manager, Christy Parrish.
00:00:18.000 --> 00:00:27.359
It's actually a throwback episode to when there were two co-hosts on Assorted Conversations, and we had a blast talking to Christy.
00:00:27.679 --> 00:00:34.880
We weren't able to visit the Oliver House, which is the property at the time she was the caretaker of.
00:00:35.359 --> 00:00:50.799
We weren't able to visit it prior to the interview, but we did make a trip out to meet her and to explore this gorgeous property and highly active property after we had our conversation.
00:00:50.960 --> 00:00:52.000
So stick around.
00:00:52.240 --> 00:00:58.640
At the end of the interview, Maureen and I talk about what we experienced at the Oliver House.
00:00:58.799 --> 00:01:03.359
And Christy Parrish is very involved in the paranormal community.
00:01:03.600 --> 00:01:08.159
She no longer is affiliated with the Oliver House.
00:01:08.319 --> 00:01:17.840
However, she's moved on to other properties such as the Mayflower Lodge in Middleboro, Mass, and the Emery Estate in Weymouth, Mass.
00:01:18.000 --> 00:01:21.599
She also teaches at the Weymouth Teen Center.
00:01:22.000 --> 00:01:30.640
And she is sharing her knowledge and her investigation techniques with young soon-to-be paranormal investigators.
00:01:30.799 --> 00:01:32.799
So great stuff from Christy.
00:01:33.040 --> 00:01:37.519
Jump down to the show notes for links to her newest properties.
00:01:37.680 --> 00:01:41.840
Take a listen to this week's episode, and I'll see you in two weeks.
00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:18.639
It is.
00:02:18.800 --> 00:02:20.479
I am so excited to share it.
00:02:20.719 --> 00:02:22.080
I have a question for you, Helen.
00:02:22.479 --> 00:02:25.120
Have you ever had a paranormal experience?
00:02:25.520 --> 00:02:28.479
You know, I don't believe I have.
00:02:55.039 --> 00:03:04.639
So I don't know if that qualifies as a paranormal experience, but um I have been told there's energies that follow me around.
00:03:04.960 --> 00:03:06.319
Oh my gosh.
00:03:06.719 --> 00:03:07.840
How about you?
00:03:08.240 --> 00:03:21.120
You know, I've had a couple different ones, but I would say the one that left the biggest impression on me was in a house, I was up in my room reading a book I had borrowed from one of my housemates.
00:03:21.599 --> 00:03:32.560
And I was dozing off as I was reading the book and could hear footsteps coming into the room and could feel someone looking closely at me.
00:03:32.719 --> 00:03:35.120
You know that feeling when someone's looking closely at you?
00:03:35.199 --> 00:03:35.280
Yeah.
00:03:35.439 --> 00:03:37.039
You just know there's a presence there.
00:03:37.280 --> 00:03:41.039
I had this wave of sadness come over me.
00:03:41.199 --> 00:03:45.599
And it was just like this really sad kind of despair.
00:03:45.840 --> 00:03:49.599
I thought, oh, she's come to get her book.
00:03:50.000 --> 00:03:53.520
And I woke up and there was no one there.
00:03:53.919 --> 00:03:57.360
And I called down to her to say, Oh, did you want your book?
00:03:57.520 --> 00:03:59.680
And she said, What are you talking about?
00:03:59.840 --> 00:04:05.840
And I described what had happened, and she said, Well, we should probably tell you.
00:04:06.080 --> 00:04:06.719
Oh, God.
00:04:07.039 --> 00:04:11.280
Oh, there has been um a death in this house.
00:04:11.520 --> 00:04:17.759
So apparently there was a teenage girl who had committed suicide in the house.
00:04:18.720 --> 00:04:21.759
And that's what I was experiencing.
00:04:21.839 --> 00:04:28.319
And she said that she had she had been aware of it and they'd done some research on the house and the family that had been there before.
00:04:28.639 --> 00:04:30.399
So they were aware of it.
00:04:30.639 --> 00:04:37.279
But it was one of those things where I never I never felt um afraid as a result.
00:04:37.920 --> 00:04:41.040
It was just the sadness and it was just so melancholy.
00:04:41.199 --> 00:04:44.560
And I just kind of spoke to her and said, It's okay.
00:04:44.720 --> 00:04:45.839
I'll be your friend.
00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:50.399
And never did I experience anything like that again during the time I lived in the house.
00:04:50.800 --> 00:04:51.199
Wow.
00:04:51.519 --> 00:04:52.160
Wow.
00:04:52.639 --> 00:04:53.839
It was really strange.
00:04:54.800 --> 00:05:05.040
That is that's that's eerie, but also, I don't know, peaceful in a way, you know, where where you actually spoke and it never happened again.
00:05:05.360 --> 00:05:05.839
Right.
00:05:06.079 --> 00:05:10.800
I've had other experiences, but that was the one that I think it was because of the emotion of it.
00:05:10.879 --> 00:05:13.439
Like there was just this real feeling to it.
00:05:13.680 --> 00:05:15.600
So wow, that was kind of cool.
00:05:16.000 --> 00:05:35.920
Not unlike um our guest this week, who uh has been involved with paranormal and paranormal activity and investigation because she was actually involved in what she termed as severe hauntings.
00:05:36.160 --> 00:05:49.040
But that ignited a gift in her that she had long uh pushed down, and it led her to her current role at the historic Oliver House.
00:05:49.279 --> 00:05:55.759
So take a listen to this week's conversation, and we will see you on the other side.
00:05:59.680 --> 00:06:10.240
This week's guest is Christy Parish, who volunteers her time as event coordinator and ghost tour manager for the historic Oliver Estate in Middleboro, Massachusetts.
00:06:10.480 --> 00:06:20.399
Christy feels a sense of duty not to just preserve the property's historic significance, but also preserving it for the energies that reside there.
00:06:20.639 --> 00:06:23.519
Welcome, Christy, and thanks for being with us.
00:06:23.839 --> 00:06:24.800
Thank you so much.
00:06:24.879 --> 00:06:26.399
And I hope a lot of people listen.
00:06:26.560 --> 00:06:28.399
So my voice gets out there.
00:06:30.879 --> 00:06:33.759
Well, the sound of your voice is beautiful.
00:06:34.560 --> 00:06:41.040
I really appreciate y'all uh having me along today to talk about uh some of the things that were very important to me.
00:06:41.120 --> 00:06:50.240
And hopefully this will resonate with people in the audience and help maybe inspire stuff to go out and do some great things to help preserve history and locations.
00:06:51.120 --> 00:06:52.800
Yeah, absolutely.
00:06:53.600 --> 00:06:58.800
When you got involved with the Oliver House, you must have had some kind of background.
00:06:59.040 --> 00:07:03.199
How did you get started in the paranormal?
00:07:03.600 --> 00:07:22.000
When I was born, I was born with abilities and uh being in the south and having the ability to have uh voices and to be able to see things when you're a child in the Bible belt can be very difficult.
00:07:22.480 --> 00:07:44.800
And uh I love my parents, but to talk to them about these things, it got me a whole lot of lot of church and do psychiatric evaluation um to where I had eventually believed that it was wrong to be able to have gifts, and that was kind of like beaten into me.
00:07:46.240 --> 00:07:55.279
Well, uh my story is kind of a it's a hard one to kind of tell people some of the details because it's it's pretty scary.
00:07:55.600 --> 00:08:07.519
Uh I actually had um married a gentleman in 2001, and we purchased a home that was built around the 1930s timeframe down in Tennessee.
00:08:07.759 --> 00:08:12.240
The home was directly across the street from a Confederate cemetery.
00:08:12.560 --> 00:08:19.519
Uh, I think the gravesites were less than a football field from our front door and angled towards the direction of our house.
00:08:20.000 --> 00:08:26.800
It always felt odd, but there was something about it that I just absolutely was drawn to.
00:08:27.040 --> 00:08:48.159
I think being drawn to this house was an awakening for me because the the house and the energies within it knew that I could do these things and they knew that I had these abilities, but I had shut them off for so long that it took force and aggression uh to wake me up.
00:08:48.480 --> 00:09:03.600
And when we first moved in, um my husband and my stepdaughter began to tell me about the people that they would see in the house and the things that would touch them, and and there was a shadow man at the end of the hallway.
00:09:03.840 --> 00:09:05.840
How old was your stepdaughter at the time?
00:09:06.240 --> 00:09:09.600
She was only about six years old when we were married.
00:09:09.840 --> 00:09:15.360
And my husband, you know, he kept saying more things were happening to him than she was.
00:09:15.600 --> 00:09:27.200
But, you know, I I kind of brushed it off because that's what was kind of pushed my direction growing up, you know, just your imagination or your mind is just busy and it's replaying the day.
00:09:27.360 --> 00:09:29.840
That's a thing my mom used to tell me a lot.
00:09:30.080 --> 00:09:34.639
It was very much alive, this house, and it was very dangerous.
00:09:34.960 --> 00:09:39.840
And it started to really go after my stepdaughter.
00:09:40.159 --> 00:09:41.279
And oh no.
00:09:41.919 --> 00:09:44.080
I don't have my own children.
00:09:44.159 --> 00:09:48.960
Uh, and so when I got married and I had a stepdaughter, I became like the mama bear.
00:09:49.039 --> 00:09:58.960
I really love this little girl, and I would move heaven and earth to protect her and to watch and hear and see her experience some of these things.
00:09:59.200 --> 00:10:02.240
Um that started to get under my skin.
00:10:02.559 --> 00:10:07.440
But still, I had this disbelief because that's what was pushed into me.
00:10:07.519 --> 00:10:12.320
And I tried to explain it away, much like my mom tried and my dad tried to do with me.
00:10:12.559 --> 00:10:12.799
Right.
00:10:13.039 --> 00:10:15.120
Did did anything happen to you?
00:10:15.840 --> 00:10:22.000
Or did you experience anything when your stepdaughter was was experiencing these things?
00:10:22.799 --> 00:10:23.440
Yeah.
00:10:24.080 --> 00:10:31.519
Um, it started with them, uh, my husband and my stepdaughter, but then it turned on me.
00:10:31.919 --> 00:10:41.120
And I remember uh the moment I love to mow the grass and ride my little lawnmower and and do the yard work.
00:10:41.279 --> 00:10:45.039
And uh I had come in and I was all sweaty and achy.
00:10:45.279 --> 00:10:50.639
So I told him that I was gonna draw a bath and I was gonna soak in the tub for a while.
00:10:50.879 --> 00:10:53.120
The water was just a little too hot.
00:10:53.840 --> 00:10:59.519
And so when I stepped over into the tub, I sat down very gently in the water.
00:10:59.600 --> 00:11:00.480
It was so hot.
00:11:00.639 --> 00:11:10.480
And I remember curling my arms around my knees and just kind of sitting there, just waiting for the water to cool enough to where I could lean the rest of the weight back into the tub.
00:11:10.720 --> 00:11:17.519
And then I remember feeling this cold breeze to the side of my face, to the exterior of the tub.
00:11:17.679 --> 00:11:22.080
We had the the iron, uh, beautiful decorative like vents.
00:11:22.559 --> 00:11:29.519
And when the air conditioner would come on, you would hear it rattle a little bit, and there were some towels that were hanging above that.
00:11:29.759 --> 00:11:42.960
So I just instead I just did it without thinking, looked over at the vent, and as I turned my head to look over, that's when I felt the back of a hand smack me across my jaw.
00:11:43.200 --> 00:11:56.559
I mean, it hit me so hard, it spun my head all the way around to the back, and I jumped out of the tub because there is nothing standing there right beside me, but something just hit me that hard.
00:11:56.799 --> 00:12:10.559
So I jump up out of the tub and I run into the living room and I have not a stitch of clothes on, I'm dripping wet, the front door's open, the windows are open, there's traffic going down the road, and I'm telling him, I was like, something just hit me.
00:12:10.720 --> 00:12:17.519
He saw how red it was already, and literally my face stayed bruised for like four days across the jaw.
00:12:17.679 --> 00:12:23.840
Um, and that was tough because I work around a lot of men at my job, the one that pays me.
00:12:24.159 --> 00:12:24.799
Yeah.
00:12:25.679 --> 00:12:31.279
And uh they kept thinking that my husband was being abusive to me, but it wasn't.
00:12:31.440 --> 00:12:33.519
It was the energies within the house.
00:12:33.759 --> 00:12:42.960
And I think what was happening is they were doing everything they possibly could to get me to wake up and listen to them, and I wasn't doing it.
00:12:43.200 --> 00:12:48.000
So they had to get aggressive for me to start to pay attention and believe that they're really there.
00:12:48.399 --> 00:13:14.559
One of the scariest parts of it uh was my husband and I were asleep on a Sunday morning, and my stepdaughter was with her mom that weekend, and I remember waking up and there was like banging on our back door, and there was a cop standing, a couple of cops actually standing there, and they said, Um uh we had a phone call, uh, we believe came from this house.
00:13:14.960 --> 00:13:19.919
And uh I said, Well, we've been in bed, and he said, Do you have a little girl here?
00:13:20.159 --> 00:13:24.639
And I was like, No, I have a stepdaughter, but she's with her mom this weekend.
00:13:24.720 --> 00:13:26.159
There's no children here.
00:13:26.399 --> 00:13:29.360
And uh he says, Well, is your landline number?
00:13:29.519 --> 00:13:33.519
And he read the number, and I was like, Yes, it is, that's our phone number.
00:13:33.840 --> 00:13:38.320
He says, Well, ma'am, do you mind if I just take a look around?
00:13:38.879 --> 00:13:42.159
And I was like, No, you can come in and take a look.
00:13:42.320 --> 00:13:58.000
So Taco entered the house and walked the first floor, and then they went upstairs and walked all the bedrooms upstairs and came back down, and they were just on their way out the door, out the back door, and he turned and he looked at the door that led into the basement.
00:13:58.639 --> 00:14:02.639
And I keep a chain on it because that door kept opening up in the middle of the night.
00:14:02.799 --> 00:14:10.720
If you ever walked into my house in Tennessee, every swinging door has chains on it because the things move and I don't need them.
00:14:12.559 --> 00:14:19.600
And so uh I lifted the chain and I opened the door and uh he said, So that's your basement down there.
00:14:19.679 --> 00:14:20.240
I was like, Yeah.
00:14:20.320 --> 00:14:23.360
He said, Do you mind just to exhaust all possibilities?
00:14:23.679 --> 00:14:25.279
I said, No, it's fine.
00:14:25.440 --> 00:14:30.000
So I flipped on the light at the top of the stairs, and he started to walk down the stairs, and I was behind him.
00:14:30.159 --> 00:14:37.360
I said, Do you mind if I ask you what the urgency is with this uh girl or this child?
00:14:37.600 --> 00:14:45.759
And uh he said, Um, well, we received a phone call that she was about to kill her parents, and then we she hung up and we couldn't reach her back.
00:14:45.840 --> 00:14:47.120
The phone was busy.
00:14:47.679 --> 00:14:48.720
Oh my god.
00:14:49.039 --> 00:15:03.360
As we got to the base of the stairs, as we got to the base of the stairs, uh, we did have a landline that my husband had put down in the basement, and the phone was hanging off the pole and it was going, it was beeping.
00:15:03.600 --> 00:15:17.519
And so the officer went over and he he picked the phone up and he kind of looked at me, and I was like, I don't know what to tell you right now, except I really hope that you find this girl before it's too late.
00:15:19.279 --> 00:15:20.960
And it scared me.
00:15:21.519 --> 00:15:23.200
It's scaring me now.
00:15:23.600 --> 00:15:24.240
Yeah.
00:15:26.000 --> 00:15:28.159
Oh, there are so many other things.
00:15:28.320 --> 00:15:36.240
I mean, it the experiences that I had there in itself would probably be one of the scariest movies you've ever seen in your entire life.
00:15:36.559 --> 00:15:40.000
We literally had our feet grabbed and got drug out of bed.
00:15:40.240 --> 00:15:43.440
We would walk into people that we couldn't see.
00:15:43.759 --> 00:15:55.679
Um, we had doors that sounded like people were trying to break into our house, but when the cops came, the the doors were kicked from the inside out, not from the outside in.
00:15:56.240 --> 00:15:58.559
So it just goes on and on.
00:15:58.799 --> 00:16:20.799
Um so what drove me to do this paranormal uh that I do is the fact that I reached out to people, teams in the area, multiple teams, to come to my house and try to get some answers to try to figure out what they can cover, what we were going through.
00:16:20.960 --> 00:16:28.240
And I had uh ladies that were full-blown psychic mediums that would walk in and she says, I don't know how you stay here.
00:16:28.720 --> 00:16:41.919
I I no disrespect or to minimize anything you were going through, but I think the for sale sign would have been up very quick if if I even experienced one of those things.
00:16:42.159 --> 00:16:42.799
Yikes.
00:16:43.840 --> 00:16:54.879
And I don't know what was driving me to stay, other than the fact that I wasn't gonna let anybody bully me or push me out of somewhere that I loved.
00:16:55.279 --> 00:17:00.159
The problem was is that each team would never come back.
00:17:00.480 --> 00:17:05.119
They would have all these experiences where they would have equipment that would shut off.
00:17:05.279 --> 00:17:11.680
One lady said to them in the dining room, we were all in the dining room, she had all kinds of cameras and recorders.
00:17:11.920 --> 00:17:16.640
And she said to them out loud, she says, Do you not know that you're dead?
00:17:17.200 --> 00:17:22.400
And at that time, every you heard click, click, click, click, click, click, everything shut down.
00:17:23.440 --> 00:17:30.880
And all the video recordings, when they went back to review, it fizzled out right there before the camera shut off.
00:17:31.039 --> 00:17:37.519
Right after she said that, you could hear the sizzling, and it was on every single camera and every single room that they had set up.
00:17:37.680 --> 00:17:38.960
It just shut down.
00:17:39.279 --> 00:17:48.880
I feel like if you can create that kind of change in an environment, your energy must must feel like you're alive.
00:17:49.359 --> 00:17:58.640
I think, I think you're exactly right with what you're saying, you know, and this is kind of uh where I went into research mode.
00:17:58.720 --> 00:18:01.039
This is where the true researcher started.
00:18:01.200 --> 00:18:06.880
Is I was I can't get help here in my own household with my own family to feel safe.
00:18:07.599 --> 00:18:09.759
I said, I have to figure this out.
00:18:10.000 --> 00:18:13.359
If nobody else is gonna figure this out, I'm going to have to do it.
00:18:13.680 --> 00:18:23.759
So I went to libraries and I would just sit and read every single thing that I can possibly read about, you know, people's uh experiences with the paranormal.
00:18:23.839 --> 00:18:25.759
You don't want to look like a crazy person.
00:18:26.160 --> 00:18:26.480
Right.
00:18:26.720 --> 00:18:28.079
When you start talking about it.
00:18:28.160 --> 00:18:30.960
Because, and that's the really the toughest part.
00:18:31.200 --> 00:18:40.079
And I feel for a lot of families that go through hauntings is they feel like they can't really say anything because the way society judges them.
00:18:40.480 --> 00:18:40.960
Right.
00:18:41.200 --> 00:18:50.799
And that can be almost as damaging as the activity that's going on that they have to deal with or try to figure out how to resolve or live with in some way.
00:18:51.039 --> 00:18:53.119
Right, because they're ostracized for it.
00:18:53.359 --> 00:18:53.920
Exactly.
00:18:54.079 --> 00:19:03.839
It was in learning about that within the walls of my own house that I thought, here's kind of something I think people miss the boat on a lot.
00:19:04.079 --> 00:19:08.160
They want to just like get angry out into the atmosphere.
00:19:08.240 --> 00:19:18.720
But rather than do that, why don't we just take a step back and just try to talk to whatever's in your environment, just like you're a person, just like we're talking right here, have a conversation.
00:19:18.960 --> 00:19:22.240
Let them get to know you as being not a threat.
00:19:22.799 --> 00:19:32.559
And maybe someone that can get their voices heard if there's information or things that they need you to know, be that open, open vessel to be able to do that.
00:19:32.720 --> 00:19:39.519
They can't talk through you, but they can talk to you, and you have to make that clear.
00:19:39.839 --> 00:19:48.640
Uh, being assertive and being having affirmation in dealing with this was my saving grace in that house.
00:19:48.960 --> 00:19:54.640
What did you find out about the energies or spirits in in your house?
00:19:55.599 --> 00:19:56.880
You were ready for this.
00:19:57.680 --> 00:19:58.640
I don't know.
00:19:58.880 --> 00:20:02.079
I don't think I was ready for what you just shared.
00:20:02.319 --> 00:20:04.559
Well, I will have no fingernails left.
00:20:04.880 --> 00:20:13.279
So, what I learned was at any given time I had anywhere between 40 to 50 energies that walked through my house in a good time.
00:20:14.480 --> 00:20:21.279
And there was essentially uh in my stepdaughter's bedroom upstairs a closet.
00:20:21.519 --> 00:20:32.240
And we had figured out by setting up cameras and laser grids and equipment, we were able to measure uh seismic change and everything in that area.
00:20:32.480 --> 00:20:45.920
When a portal to the house would open, it would sound like broken glass or a door slamming, and then we would actually, with the laser grid, see the forms of the people that were walking out of that door into my house.
00:20:46.160 --> 00:20:50.000
They would come and go as they pleased when they wanted.
00:20:50.400 --> 00:20:59.599
So literally, there was one that I kept hearing, and it made a particular sound uh when it was walking around.
00:20:59.759 --> 00:21:06.000
It's like you heard a step, but you heard like a click kind of sound on the floor above you.
00:21:06.160 --> 00:21:15.200
And that's what really got me on this kick of trying to design new experiments and new documentation tools.
00:21:15.440 --> 00:21:19.839
And they're not pretty, but there's some logic that goes in behind it.
00:21:20.000 --> 00:21:29.279
What I really wanted to do was be able to go into places in my house in particular and walk away with their footprints or their handprints.
00:21:29.519 --> 00:21:43.440
And then I wanted to lift that print and I wanted to cross-reference it uh to someone or get like a a mark on the bottom of their shoe from their time, and maybe I could trace that back to how old they are.
00:21:43.759 --> 00:21:54.960
And so I took what I call the ghost mat, and I also brought a friend from Rhode Island who enjoys this stuff, and I said, Well, you need to come to my house.
00:21:55.279 --> 00:21:55.519
Right.
00:21:56.000 --> 00:21:57.680
I got an experience for you.
00:21:57.920 --> 00:22:00.079
And she was like, I can't wait.
00:22:00.400 --> 00:22:08.720
We were there uh one night, and these uh devices that I had built, they have these uh sensory alarms on them.
00:22:08.799 --> 00:22:20.799
So I dust the surface of the mat, and during the night we're asleep, and she nudges me and she says, Christy, she says, You need to wake up, listen.
00:22:21.599 --> 00:22:36.400
And I was, I was listening, and I heard some movement upstairs, and then we heard the alarm go off on the mat upstairs, and it went off and it went off and it went off and it went off, and like it was multiple steps that was on this mat.
00:22:36.960 --> 00:22:41.440
So I said, Okay, so first off, we're not going up there.
00:22:44.000 --> 00:22:44.400
You know what?
00:22:44.640 --> 00:22:46.000
Here's what I appreciate.
00:22:46.160 --> 00:22:48.640
You heard the sound and you did not go there.
00:22:49.519 --> 00:22:54.079
Which is not like any other like horror movie I've ever seen where they always go there.
00:22:54.319 --> 00:22:55.359
You're my new hero.
00:22:55.599 --> 00:22:58.960
I told her, I said, you know what, let's just give them their space.
00:22:59.279 --> 00:23:02.720
We're just gonna keep relaxing, let them do what they're gonna do.
00:23:02.960 --> 00:23:04.880
Maybe they'll use it more times.
00:23:05.200 --> 00:23:10.240
So in the morning, the first thing when we woke up, she was like, Let's go check those mats.
00:23:10.319 --> 00:23:12.480
I heard the other one go off as well.
00:23:12.799 --> 00:23:18.240
We opened the door to go upstairs, and I have these really dark painted walls.
00:23:18.400 --> 00:23:26.319
Right there on the wall are these white powder handprints climbing up the wall to go upstairs.
00:23:26.480 --> 00:23:28.319
And she says, Do you see this?
00:23:28.480 --> 00:23:31.200
And I was like, Yes.
00:23:33.440 --> 00:23:37.279
I said, Take, let's let's take some pictures and let's document this.
00:23:37.359 --> 00:23:41.599
And she says, Christy, look at that's a man's hand right there.
00:23:41.680 --> 00:23:43.440
Because we held our hands up next to it.
00:23:43.519 --> 00:23:46.160
It was a lot larger, but it was a human hand.
00:23:46.319 --> 00:23:48.880
And so she says, Let's go up there where we heard the other one.
00:23:49.039 --> 00:23:51.279
So we we kind of creep up the stairs.
00:23:51.440 --> 00:23:56.480
It was probably the funniest thing anybody could ever like we should have like uh Pink Panther music.
00:23:56.559 --> 00:24:04.960
Did I dunno dunno as we were going up those stairs and um we we make it to the room.
00:24:05.039 --> 00:24:10.720
Uh, I put the mat right there in the doorway of my stepdaughter's bedroom where the portal is.
00:24:10.960 --> 00:24:16.640
Right there on that mat was one footprint and a square.
00:24:17.680 --> 00:24:26.000
And I looked at it and I said, uh I said, This energy only has one foot.
00:24:26.799 --> 00:24:28.960
Oh this is a peg.
00:24:29.359 --> 00:24:31.039
And she says, and it's all over.
00:24:31.119 --> 00:24:34.960
It's a barefoot and it's a peg, and it's multiple places on this mat.
00:24:35.039 --> 00:24:38.799
So we snapped all kinds of pictures, and I was like, this is incredible.
00:24:38.880 --> 00:24:40.640
So let's go find out who this is.
00:24:41.039 --> 00:24:45.200
We start uh asking questions, and we got the name Edward.
00:24:46.400 --> 00:24:51.759
So I asked, I said, Edward, do you only have one foot?
00:24:52.319 --> 00:24:54.079
And he said, Yes.
00:24:55.599 --> 00:24:58.480
So I start calling him Peg Leg Eddie.
00:25:00.640 --> 00:25:02.559
How did you get the name Edward?
00:25:02.640 --> 00:25:04.799
And how did you hear him?
00:25:05.119 --> 00:25:08.319
We recorded it on a digital audio recorder.
00:25:08.559 --> 00:25:13.839
When we played back, we asked the questions, we play it back, and there it is in the voice.
00:25:14.160 --> 00:25:17.359
Were you able to do research to find out who he was?
00:25:17.680 --> 00:25:22.079
Uh well, I kind of figured he was associated with uh the Civil War.
00:25:22.240 --> 00:25:22.480
Right.
00:25:22.720 --> 00:25:25.440
Um kind of it just felt that way.
00:25:25.759 --> 00:25:26.799
It makes sense.
00:25:27.359 --> 00:25:32.240
And the graveyard's right across the street, but um, I just asked the question.
00:25:32.400 --> 00:25:34.079
I use uh dousing rods.
00:25:34.160 --> 00:25:36.160
I don't know if Bonnie ever told you about that.
00:25:36.400 --> 00:25:41.119
I use them a lot to get confirmation, yes or no answers and things like that.
00:25:41.359 --> 00:25:44.240
So I grabbed my rods and I just asked him.
00:25:44.400 --> 00:25:52.720
I said, Eddie, I was like, if if you're bound here because maybe you're missing your other foot, can you let me know?
00:25:52.880 --> 00:25:55.279
And he goes, Yes, like that, really strong.
00:25:55.839 --> 00:26:03.599
And I said, Okay, are you here because your foot is on my on my land?
00:26:04.160 --> 00:26:06.400
Yes, really strong.
00:26:06.640 --> 00:26:08.240
And I was like, Okay.
00:26:08.720 --> 00:26:11.119
I said, Would you like me to find it?
00:26:11.920 --> 00:26:13.920
Yes, really strong.
00:26:14.480 --> 00:26:21.759
So I asked for him to point to the direction that I should travel, and he pointed me to the back of the house.
00:26:21.839 --> 00:26:33.680
So we went out the back door, down the stairs and into the backyard, and I just told him, I said, when we get to you use these to lead me where I need to go, and then I will look for your foot.
00:26:34.079 --> 00:26:44.720
So he led me around to an old tree to the back of it, and when I got there, I could see the anxiousness with the rods, and then they just cross really hard.
00:26:45.200 --> 00:26:53.519
So I do a technique where I back up and come at it backwards and go different directions and see if it still leads me to the exact same place.
00:26:53.759 --> 00:26:54.160
Right.
00:26:54.319 --> 00:27:02.880
And and I also do what I call touch the tips, where the tips of the rods will touch three times, and that's really hard for anybody to try to manipulate.
00:27:03.039 --> 00:27:09.519
The spirits can do it, but it went ting, ting, ting and touched right when I got to where it needed to be.
00:27:10.319 --> 00:27:13.519
So I put a stick in the ground right there, and I marked the ground.
00:27:13.680 --> 00:27:15.680
I said, now we should dig.
00:27:15.839 --> 00:27:18.000
And my friend's eyes at the time.
00:27:20.720 --> 00:27:23.119
She's like, uh Yeah.
00:27:23.920 --> 00:27:24.880
Not so much about this.
00:27:24.960 --> 00:27:27.839
I said, Well, if you're not comfortable with this, that's fine.
00:27:28.160 --> 00:27:30.400
So we left it for that moment.
00:27:30.640 --> 00:27:34.079
But I came back to it with another friend who really didn't know as much.
00:27:34.240 --> 00:27:36.640
And I was like, just be here as moral support.
00:27:38.640 --> 00:27:40.480
We're digging for treasure.
00:27:40.880 --> 00:27:41.119
Yeah.
00:27:41.599 --> 00:27:42.000
P.S.
00:27:42.160 --> 00:27:44.160
Helen, that's what you need to use on me.
00:27:47.359 --> 00:27:49.119
She said, What's the stick for?
00:27:49.279 --> 00:27:51.119
And I was like, I think, I don't know.
00:27:51.279 --> 00:27:53.759
There's something probably buried here, but I'm not sure what.
00:27:53.920 --> 00:27:56.319
I was lying out my teeth on this.
00:27:56.640 --> 00:28:03.279
Um, and as I started to dig about five to six inches under the ground, I hit something.
00:28:03.440 --> 00:28:07.359
I brought it up and it was like this creamy white color.
00:28:07.519 --> 00:28:15.200
And it looked like it had these little holes in it, almost like, you know, when you break a bone, there's the marrow portion.
00:28:15.519 --> 00:28:18.720
And I thought, that looks like it goes on a foot.
00:28:19.359 --> 00:28:21.440
And uh my friend said, What is that?
00:28:21.519 --> 00:28:22.480
And I said, I don't know.
00:28:22.640 --> 00:28:25.440
It might be bone, it might be a rock.
00:28:25.599 --> 00:28:30.480
And she says, Well, you know, if you take it and you touch it to your tongue and it sticks, it's bone.
00:28:31.119 --> 00:28:32.880
And I was like, Oh.
00:28:36.240 --> 00:28:41.359
This is why you bring the friend who knows what you're there for so she doesn't suggest such a thing.
00:28:41.759 --> 00:28:43.519
Did you hand it to her?
00:28:44.079 --> 00:28:45.519
Here you try it.
00:28:45.920 --> 00:28:46.240
No.
00:28:48.319 --> 00:28:48.640
No.
00:28:49.119 --> 00:28:55.200
Uh I actually I said, let's let's take it in the house and let's clean it up and take a better look at it.
00:28:55.359 --> 00:28:57.599
So I did and I studied it.
00:28:57.680 --> 00:29:05.759
And then I called a friend of mine uh in Rhode Island who's a nurse, and I was like, I think I might have a piece of bone here, but how do I know?
00:29:05.920 --> 00:29:08.720
He said, Well, if you stick it to your tongue, it'll stick.
00:29:11.680 --> 00:29:14.079
So he said, just barely stick it to your tongue.
00:29:14.240 --> 00:29:16.960
And I had cleaned it up at this point, and I did.
00:29:17.519 --> 00:29:20.240
And it did you did it stick?
00:29:20.559 --> 00:29:21.119
It did.
00:29:22.240 --> 00:29:25.119
Oh my gosh, the things we will do for science.
00:29:25.519 --> 00:29:41.440
I know, but it I was like, I was convinced at that point that Peg Leg Eddie had legitimately led me to where his foot was, and um, I didn't have to dig up the whole thing in order to tell the story of it.
00:29:41.599 --> 00:29:45.759
I needed just to say it out loud to him and say, I found it.
00:29:46.079 --> 00:29:46.960
Here's a piece.
00:29:47.039 --> 00:29:53.440
I showed it to him, held it up in the house, and I still have that piece of bone to this day.
00:29:53.839 --> 00:30:02.480
The little it was a piece of the toe that I had dug up and I had a uh the Uh foot anatomy, so I could marry up.
00:30:02.559 --> 00:30:04.160
It was part of the big toe.
00:30:04.400 --> 00:30:15.119
After I dug up Peg leg Eddie's toe bone and he found peace, then I had to go to work on a lot of the other energies in the house.
00:30:15.440 --> 00:30:18.160
How many years after this?
00:30:18.319 --> 00:30:25.759
And how deep were you into the paranormal investigating when you discovered the Oliver State?
00:30:26.079 --> 00:30:29.599
The Oliver State came on my radar about five years ago.
00:30:29.920 --> 00:30:32.400
So I was about 15 years into it.
00:30:32.640 --> 00:30:35.599
The Oliver House was a happy little accident.
00:30:35.839 --> 00:30:41.200
I go to this convention at Salem Conn and listen to the lectures, and it's a lunch break.
00:30:41.279 --> 00:30:46.079
And I'm sitting at the bar and I'm having my favorite food when I'm out, uh chicken nuggets.
00:30:46.319 --> 00:30:52.880
And uh and this lady pulls up a chair at the bar beside me and starts chatting with me.
00:30:53.039 --> 00:30:56.559
And she was like, So are you into ghosts and stuff?
00:30:56.720 --> 00:31:00.000
And I was like, Yeah, uh uh you could say that.
00:31:00.880 --> 00:31:10.559
And uh we just strike up a conversation, and she was telling me that she has an opportunity at this place and she's looking for people to help her with it.
00:31:10.720 --> 00:31:16.960
Uh, she wants to start public ghost tours in this home from 1769.
00:31:17.599 --> 00:31:19.839
I was like, it's that old, really.
00:31:20.000 --> 00:31:22.000
She said, Yeah, it's a pretty big house.
00:31:22.160 --> 00:31:31.440
And there's actually been people that's gone in and investigated it once, and they recorded voices and had touching and paranormal experiences.
00:31:31.680 --> 00:31:38.799
So um I think it would be a good place to kind of dip toes in the water and try to start ghost tours.
00:31:38.960 --> 00:31:40.640
So we exchanged information.
00:31:40.960 --> 00:31:49.519
About a week later, she calls me and um she says, Are you available to come to Middleboro, Massachusetts, and meet me at the Oliver House?
00:31:49.599 --> 00:31:50.799
And I was like, sure.
00:31:50.960 --> 00:31:55.039
She says, put on your work boots, long sleeve shirt, bring some work gloves.
00:31:55.119 --> 00:31:56.720
We're gonna pull weeds today.
00:32:01.920 --> 00:32:05.680
Oh my gosh, she is classic.
00:32:06.160 --> 00:32:16.880
From the moment that I actually turned into that driveway and I could barely see the house, I felt like I was home somehow.
00:32:17.039 --> 00:32:23.200
It was just that instinctive feeling that you're exactly in the right place where you need to be right now.
00:32:23.599 --> 00:32:28.079
I just felt like I had this underlying sense of duty.
00:32:28.960 --> 00:32:49.279
And it was through the years being there, and I've never lost that since the very first day, that I somehow need to protect this place and I need to pour my heart and soul into it and bring it back from bare bones to be alive again.
00:32:50.880 --> 00:32:52.480
That's so cool.
00:32:53.200 --> 00:33:01.119
What about the property or the the folks that lived there do you feel protective of?
00:33:01.599 --> 00:33:02.079
All of them.
00:33:02.480 --> 00:33:03.440
Everything about them.
00:33:03.599 --> 00:33:10.559
We have documented at least 15 different mainstay spirits that are there all the time.
00:33:11.359 --> 00:33:19.200
And they're they're through from revolutionary times inside the house to all the way up until like 2013.
00:33:19.920 --> 00:33:32.640
Are there specific examples of uh a person being drawn there to speak to or to have a connection with a specific energy that's there?
00:33:33.039 --> 00:33:34.079
Yes, and no.
00:33:34.240 --> 00:33:41.200
Um, I I don't know if it's specific to uh an energy in particular, because there's so many of them.
00:33:41.440 --> 00:33:53.759
But I do feel like um, and if I can get a shout out to the volunteers uh a little bit, I would really appreciate that because while we're talking about my involvement with it, I can't do this all alone.
00:33:53.839 --> 00:34:02.079
Uh, no matter where I'm at, there's always other people dedicating their time and their knowledge and their research as well to the project.
00:34:02.319 --> 00:34:08.000
Um, my uh assistant manager for the ghost tours is Chris Andrade.
00:34:08.239 --> 00:34:17.519
She can see them, she can visually walk through and see the images of people like the chambermaids.
00:34:17.599 --> 00:34:31.920
She actually was the first one to actually see in full uh apparition form the chambermaid that was intricate to the story, and from there we just start learning more and more and more because there was the comfort level uh with her.
00:34:32.079 --> 00:34:38.400
She possesses a very empathetic side to everything, she's just a sweet person, uh sweet soul.
00:34:38.559 --> 00:34:41.440
Uh, also we have uh a technical guy.
00:34:41.599 --> 00:34:44.320
His name is uh Paul Heber Jr.
00:34:44.639 --> 00:34:50.800
Now he's our camera camera guy, but he also likes to tinker with electronics and build new devices.
00:34:51.039 --> 00:34:59.679
So uh my nerd side kind of enjoys that part of the creativity that he brings to the house when we bounce ideas off of each other.
00:34:59.840 --> 00:35:10.639
Um, he seems to be um pretty tight with one of the energies that I've noticed in the house uh from around the 1940s timeframe.
00:35:10.800 --> 00:35:14.800
His name is Harry or Henry Champion Jones.
00:35:14.880 --> 00:35:18.000
He was an owner and used the house as a vacation property.
00:35:18.239 --> 00:35:21.840
We have new volunteers that have stepped on board lately.
00:35:22.000 --> 00:35:28.239
Uh, Steve Bowden, uh Christina Willer, who is a fantastic sensitive person.
00:35:28.400 --> 00:35:37.360
I got her to come out of her shell because I could tell she was hiding in there and she just needed a place to be able to open up and just blossom.
00:35:37.519 --> 00:35:40.559
And I thought, hmm, why not throw her in a haunted house?
00:35:40.639 --> 00:35:42.079
That would be great.
00:35:44.719 --> 00:35:48.000
If anything will ever bring your senses alive, that'll be it.
00:35:48.079 --> 00:35:54.239
Uh, Christina, she likes to work with stones as a healing, like crystals and things like that.
00:35:54.400 --> 00:35:59.519
So she'll she'll actually use those when she's in the house, and it seems like it responds.
00:35:59.599 --> 00:36:00.960
The house really loves that.
00:36:01.119 --> 00:36:06.880
The fact that people bring it gifts and things like that, and I think they look at the stones like that.
00:36:07.280 --> 00:36:11.840
Um, we have Elizabeth Ginsburg, who I stole from Tourism.
00:36:12.000 --> 00:36:19.119
They can have her whenever they need her, and uh her friend, uh Alicia.
00:36:19.360 --> 00:36:22.559
Uh, they come every time I need any help.
00:36:22.719 --> 00:36:25.119
They're always there, they're just minutes from the door.
00:36:25.440 --> 00:36:31.039
Alex Mitchell is the newest and uh man by the name of Dean, but I don't know Dean's last name.
00:36:31.360 --> 00:36:36.079
And then we've had a uh husband and wife team that's been with us for a long time, too.
00:36:36.400 --> 00:36:40.239
Lynn and uh Peggy Hunt, uh, husband and wife team.
00:36:40.320 --> 00:36:44.159
He used to be the fire chief uh for the Bridgewater area.
00:36:44.320 --> 00:36:45.840
And uh so wow.
00:36:46.079 --> 00:36:48.079
I love when Lynn and Peggy come.
00:36:48.239 --> 00:36:52.639
They have a grandbaby, so the grandbaby takes a lot of their times now, you know.
00:36:52.880 --> 00:36:55.599
I can just see grandma and grandpa pictures all the time.
00:36:55.679 --> 00:36:59.280
And I'm like, what about the days when you used to take pictures with ghosts?
00:37:01.920 --> 00:37:03.440
Don't forget that.
00:37:04.400 --> 00:37:10.559
We've all sort of been brought there separate from each other, but for very specific reasons.
00:37:10.800 --> 00:37:20.800
And we've saw that if the house is pleased with you and the people that are there feel comfortable with you and you respect them and they respect you, you're gonna stay.
00:37:21.039 --> 00:37:30.880
However, if you do something that they can sense within you is is not good for the house as as a whole, you will not be there that long.
00:37:31.039 --> 00:37:33.119
And we don't have to do anything or say anything.
00:37:33.280 --> 00:37:34.960
The house will take care of you.
00:37:35.280 --> 00:37:35.920
Wow.
00:37:36.719 --> 00:37:42.320
I'm feeling like they could take over my old HR career and do it really well.
00:37:42.719 --> 00:37:44.159
They probably, yes.
00:37:44.719 --> 00:37:46.239
They make their ways.
00:37:46.719 --> 00:37:51.280
There's signs, there's always signs when there's someone who has a wrong intent.
00:37:51.440 --> 00:37:51.679
Right.
00:37:51.920 --> 00:37:53.280
We know what those signs are.
00:37:53.440 --> 00:37:58.239
So once we see it the first time, we know it's just a matter of two or three weeks, and that's it.
00:37:58.400 --> 00:38:01.039
That person will never come back, we'll never hear from them again.
00:38:01.119 --> 00:38:03.360
They won't die, nothing bad will happen to them.
00:38:03.599 --> 00:38:05.440
They just won't be here.
00:38:05.760 --> 00:38:06.159
Right.
00:38:06.480 --> 00:38:08.880
What is the history of the house?
00:38:09.280 --> 00:38:13.920
The house was built uh construction in 1767 started.
00:38:14.000 --> 00:38:16.800
It was actually a wedding present for Dr.
00:38:16.880 --> 00:38:18.400
Peter Oliver Jr.
00:38:18.639 --> 00:38:26.000
and his young bride to be Sally Hutchinson, who was the daughter of then governor of Massachusetts Bay, Thomas Hutchinson.
00:38:26.159 --> 00:38:35.599
As history has taught us, there was um a band of rebels in the city in Boston that later became known as the Sons of Liberty.
00:38:36.159 --> 00:38:44.880
Now, the family, the Olivers and the Hutchinson, they were staunch loyalists, loyal to King George.
00:38:45.840 --> 00:38:50.480
The house is important because there was a gentleman by the name of Dr.
00:38:50.639 --> 00:38:56.159
Benjamin Franklin that was invited there in 1773.
00:38:56.800 --> 00:39:02.800
And he was actually the ambassador before the royal court over in England for this country.
00:39:03.440 --> 00:39:07.519
So the loyalists in the areas looked to him to be their ally.
00:39:07.840 --> 00:39:27.519
And while all of the hostilities was brewing under the surface and becoming overwhelming, they thought that he was also going to be able to go to these people in the city of Boston and other areas and persuade them to kind of let's calm this down just a little bit and let's bend back to the way it should be, which is loyalist rule.
00:39:27.760 --> 00:39:47.119
During a lot of the turmoil, there was a a series of letters that Sally's father, Thomas Hutchinson, wrote, and Peter's uncle, Andrew Oliver, who was the he was the lieutenant governor of Massachusetts Bay, Andrew was, and um, he was also uh very loved for what he did.
00:39:47.360 --> 00:39:49.760
He was the tax collector.
00:39:50.400 --> 00:39:55.360
So uh as you can imagine, this is where a lot of this started.
00:39:55.440 --> 00:40:08.639
Uh, when he would go to collect taxes from Sam Adams, Sam wouldn't pay them, and then warrants were issued, and arrests tried to be made, and there was it just got really, really messy.
00:40:09.119 --> 00:40:18.320
So Thomas wrote back and forth to the king, and so did Andrew, with their plans on how they're gonna squash all this animosity that was going on.
00:40:18.480 --> 00:40:26.800
And I've read through some of these letters, and I can see where the people in Boston would be upset with some of the words and some of the ways that they phrased things.
00:40:27.039 --> 00:40:44.559
But Thomas kept his 20 letters that were sent to him, but when the heat got too much in Boston, he looked to his daughter's new house, known as the Oliver House, as another place he could take those letters and he could hide them away to where they wouldn't be found.
00:40:45.199 --> 00:40:49.599
So he visited his daughter Sally and tucked those letters in a closet upstairs.
00:40:50.719 --> 00:40:52.639
So here's where it gets interesting.
00:40:54.559 --> 00:41:05.599
Benjamin Franklin came there in 1773, and during this big lavish party, the judge, Judge Oliver, writes in his journal about Dr.
00:41:05.679 --> 00:41:11.679
Benjamin Franklin staying at Oliver Hall, which is the huge, massive mansion, beautiful place.
00:41:11.840 --> 00:41:18.159
But when it came time to do private business, they couldn't do private business there with all the guests in the house.
00:41:18.239 --> 00:41:19.519
There were too many ears.
00:41:20.320 --> 00:41:25.119
So Judge Oliver, Thomas Hutchinson, Andrew Oliver, and Dr.
00:41:25.199 --> 00:41:32.079
Benjamin Franklin went over to the small house for an afternoon to talk about their plan.
00:41:33.039 --> 00:41:43.840
And while Ben was in that house inside the business room, he acquired that 20 packets of letters that were hidden in Sally's closet upstairs.
00:41:44.960 --> 00:41:51.280
So did Benjamin Franklin go upstairs and rummage around in Sally Hutchinson's closet in that afternoon?
00:41:51.440 --> 00:41:52.719
I don't think so.
00:41:53.039 --> 00:42:00.159
And we and we know that he didn't stay there because that's in the judge's journal, you know what he has written.
00:42:00.719 --> 00:42:06.079
So it leads us down the path of asking the spirits of the Oliver House what really happened.
00:42:06.400 --> 00:42:13.599
And what they have revealed to us is there was a chambermaid that was putting things away in Sally's closet.
00:42:13.840 --> 00:42:16.480
She found those 20 packets of letters.
00:42:16.880 --> 00:42:26.559
Now she could not read this chambermaid, but she was roommates with another chambermaid from the opposite side of the house that could.
00:42:27.440 --> 00:42:33.519
And there was a situation that had happened, and I won't get into too much detail, but it involved Dr.
00:42:33.599 --> 00:42:35.039
Peter Oliver Jr.
00:42:35.440 --> 00:42:47.519
And he hurt somebody that was true and dear to her, possibly hanging him in the tree behind the barn on that side of the house for seven days for this girl to walk by the window and see out back as an example.
00:42:47.679 --> 00:42:48.480
Oh jeez.
00:42:48.639 --> 00:42:49.039
Wow.
00:42:49.280 --> 00:42:51.199
So what do we have now?
00:42:52.000 --> 00:42:55.280
We have motive, and this was a way for her to get back at Dr.
00:42:55.360 --> 00:42:56.559
Peter Oliver Jr.
00:42:56.800 --> 00:43:01.119
She loves Sally and the children, but this just she could not forgive.
00:43:01.280 --> 00:43:09.760
Ultimately, these letters uh brought down this entire family when they were read aloud at Faniu Hall by Sam Adams.
00:43:11.119 --> 00:43:46.480
It was very shortly after that that the American Revolution, the first shots were fired, and the kicker and what makes this house so important in the Middleborough area as a whole to the American Revolution, even the ruins of Oliver Mill, is because the judge came there in 1744 to manufacture household goods, sheets of metal that they were slit into uh small thin strips, and the other thing that he made was ammunition, musket balls, three-inch cannonballs, and then the guns to be able to fire them.
00:43:47.039 --> 00:43:49.199
So this is why he was so wealthy.
00:43:49.440 --> 00:44:06.960
And when the Sons of Liberty confiscated um on September 1774 the Oliver House, they sold all the Tory goods uh to get the money to be able to buy the Tory made ammunition that the judge had made at Oliver Mill.
00:44:08.079 --> 00:44:19.679
And on 1775, in Lexington, when the first shot was fired that was heard around the world, it was actually using Tory made ammunition against the British.
00:44:20.079 --> 00:44:22.239
They took over all the armaments?
00:44:22.480 --> 00:44:22.800
Yes.
00:44:23.039 --> 00:44:28.960
If you're a launch, a staunch loyalist and there's British soldiers and they're being attacked by the very ammunition that you made.
00:44:29.119 --> 00:44:30.800
Isn't that just a kick in the teeth?
00:44:31.039 --> 00:44:45.039
And so maybe that is part of some of my uh sense of duty there, is because I do believe that things that are taken from people, uh, sometimes uh uh they get another chance at life.
00:44:45.280 --> 00:44:59.280
And this time we have the ability to be able to talk about the loyalists who were there and represent them so people understand what it was like for them by what they teach us uh within the walls of that house.
00:44:59.760 --> 00:45:07.519
The thing that also impresses me about Oliver House and reading about it is that the house was purchased and owned by the town.
00:45:07.840 --> 00:45:08.239
Yes.
00:45:08.480 --> 00:45:11.039
And this is a struggle for a lot of towns.
00:45:11.199 --> 00:45:17.760
Uh I have seen this happen in my town and been involved in it, where the town owns a property.
00:45:17.920 --> 00:45:26.800
It doesn't have any tax revenue on it, but it costs to maintain it if you're going to keep especially a historical property you want to try and keep up.
00:45:27.119 --> 00:45:41.440
Um so I was so impressed that this was an avenue for you to be able to create an income that could help to maintain and even restore the property.
00:45:41.760 --> 00:45:42.320
Yeah.
00:45:42.559 --> 00:45:57.599
Um, and that was a tough one to try to figure out, you know, because you want to create a safe haven for the energies there, uh, to be able to bring different people in all the time.
00:45:57.840 --> 00:46:08.559
Because there's gonna be, you've got one energy field that's there, and then you're introducing new energies constantly, and you don't know how that is all gonna work out.
00:46:08.719 --> 00:46:12.480
You know, while it's friendly, things could turn if you're not careful.
00:46:12.719 --> 00:46:26.000
But more so, you have to go in to this location and explain to the people within it that we're talking to each week that we're doing all these things because we're trying to save your house.
00:46:26.320 --> 00:46:32.000
And we want to make sure that you are never forgotten and this house stands strong.
00:46:32.320 --> 00:46:37.360
And so for this, we need your help and we need your patience and your understanding.
00:46:37.760 --> 00:46:42.559
And I also need you to give me the lottery numbers so that I can buy them.
00:46:43.679 --> 00:46:50.559
Listen, if you're gonna do anything to help me keep this house afloat, the lottery numbers would be good.
00:46:51.039 --> 00:47:00.320
They they have told me uh some secrets, and if these secrets do pan out, and I do find the things that they've told me to look for.
00:47:00.719 --> 00:47:04.079
The property should be taken care of for all time.
00:47:04.480 --> 00:47:21.840
The important thing as far as revenue is you have a venue that isn't it's amazing and it's exciting, and you want to have a program that draws people in, not just for the investigators and their personalities, but also you want to put people in the adventure.
00:47:22.079 --> 00:47:27.840
So, what we do is we actually bring all the equipment for people to try out.
00:47:28.079 --> 00:47:42.239
One thing I stress to the volunteers is whatever you buy, if you want brand hair and put it out and teach people how this works, what gives real answers and what gives false positives, you know, let them feel this in their hands.
00:47:42.400 --> 00:47:51.840
They see it on TV and they think they can do it, but let's understand how it really works and let's feel what it's like to walk through with something, uh, a piece of equipment.
00:47:52.079 --> 00:47:58.239
And um, so guests really enjoy that, but also we wanted to make it affordable.
00:47:58.639 --> 00:48:19.599
You don't want to price it so expensive that nobody can afford to come there, but you also need to price it in such a way that um people are interested in the house actually is having money that's going into the revolving fund to take care of the electricity, the security systems, the yard, lawn work.
00:48:20.000 --> 00:48:24.320
I mean, we've paid for so much uh for the house through the years.
00:48:24.480 --> 00:48:30.239
The first four years I was there, we had raised over$64,000 to support that property.
00:48:30.639 --> 00:48:37.360
And that's just doing Saturday nights six hours a night when nobody else wanted to use the property.
00:48:38.079 --> 00:48:38.400
Right.
00:48:38.559 --> 00:48:40.079
That is amazing.
00:48:40.719 --> 00:48:50.480
Well, I I mean that's a huge success story and more than what would have been um achieved in taxes if it were owned by just a private citizen.
00:48:50.880 --> 00:48:51.519
Right.
00:48:52.079 --> 00:48:59.039
But you know, I I have seen another thing start to blossom, and this makes me so happy.
00:48:59.280 --> 00:49:06.480
While I do love paranormal and ghosts, um, I said, let me try to do some historical daytime tours.
00:49:06.800 --> 00:49:08.400
Let's just see if there's an interest.
00:49:08.480 --> 00:49:11.599
If people will pay me that, that's direct revenue.
00:49:11.760 --> 00:49:18.400
I get to tell the story a couple of times a day, and I would started to do two-hour tours of the entire house.
00:49:18.559 --> 00:49:20.800
I gave them the full story.
00:49:21.119 --> 00:49:25.519
All the details, all the personalities, the things that we read in journals.
00:49:25.679 --> 00:49:31.840
I had them cry, I had them laugh, and before they all left, they was like, I love this place.
00:49:32.079 --> 00:49:34.800
I didn't tell them, I didn't tell them about ghosts.
00:49:35.039 --> 00:49:36.639
Take as many pictures as you want.
00:49:36.800 --> 00:49:38.719
Feel feel welcome to sit on the furniture.
00:49:38.800 --> 00:49:39.920
We want you to feel at home.
00:49:40.000 --> 00:49:42.800
We're gonna let you put your hand on the history as we go through this.
00:49:42.880 --> 00:49:44.400
We're gonna let you connect to it.
00:49:44.559 --> 00:49:48.320
But today we are talking the facts, and that is it.
00:49:48.559 --> 00:49:52.239
The ghost stuff, we can talk some other time on another tour.
00:49:52.559 --> 00:50:14.639
Are there different types of tours that you offer to say the novice paranormal folks like Maureen and I, all the way up to, I know some of some of the the well-known paranormal investigators as well as some of the the popular TV shows have shot and and and and research there as well.
00:50:15.280 --> 00:50:18.480
Yes, yes, and that's important no matter where you go.
00:50:18.719 --> 00:50:25.840
Any location you have is to give uh like different layers, tiers of experiences for people.
00:50:25.920 --> 00:50:26.159
Right.
00:50:26.400 --> 00:50:32.960
For, you know, we do what we call a two and a half hour public ghost tour, and that is just what it is.
00:50:33.199 --> 00:50:56.559
We're going to show you some of the documented evidence, we're gonna let you hear the voices, we're gonna show you some video footage that was shot that you might not see on the internet, um, give you some special tidbits here and there, and then we're gonna walk you through and tell you about some of the experiences from room to room as long, as well as we're gonna talk a little bit of the history on the tour.
00:50:56.719 --> 00:51:07.679
And then we're gonna let you uh carry some of the equipment around with you as we go the last leg of it and let you kind of free-flow the last part of it and explore it on your own.
00:51:07.920 --> 00:51:10.960
Then we have uh what we call pro nights.
00:51:11.119 --> 00:51:20.079
Uh, this was an idea that I had uh about giving people the opportunity that might be a little bit more seasoned or have a little bit more experience.
00:51:20.320 --> 00:51:25.039
Maybe they're not a part of a big team where they can afford to rent the location.
00:51:25.280 --> 00:51:36.559
I thought, okay, so we're gonna let folks come in and uh explore for six hours and we're gonna divide up like a professional investigation, just like they were on a team.
00:51:36.639 --> 00:51:38.639
And we're gonna try new things.
00:51:38.880 --> 00:51:43.599
We're going to um, they can bring their own equipment and use it there.
00:51:43.760 --> 00:51:45.519
They don't have to use ours.
00:51:45.760 --> 00:51:54.480
Uh we'll give them some water so they don't dehydrate, and maybe I'll throw them, I'll throw them a cookie occasionally so they they stay fed.
00:51:56.239 --> 00:51:58.480
But um no chicken nuggets.
00:52:00.079 --> 00:52:04.480
Hey, when I'm in that house, don't you touch any chicken that's in my vicinity?
00:52:04.880 --> 00:52:06.639
That's my chicken.
00:52:08.000 --> 00:52:20.719
Um, but no, it's it's really uh I think that the pronights, especially for people who like to go to different locations and do this uh on an ongoing basis, I see what we call repeat offenders.
00:52:20.800 --> 00:52:21.920
That's what we call them.
00:52:22.159 --> 00:52:26.000
Our pronates go up, and I see the same people trying to buy the tickets.
00:52:26.079 --> 00:52:32.000
They jump on so they can be a part of the next one because each one we do something new and different.
00:52:32.239 --> 00:52:45.280
I make sure that there's something new introduced every uh prone tour, a new experiment, or maybe I have special guest investigators that have different styles and equipment just to keep everything interesting.
00:52:45.440 --> 00:52:49.280
It's always, always, always about learning.
00:52:49.599 --> 00:52:49.840
Right.
00:52:50.079 --> 00:52:55.519
We need to keep bringing something new all the time and open our mind and expand our knowledge.
00:52:55.760 --> 00:52:57.360
And so I keep it fresh.
00:52:57.440 --> 00:52:58.400
I keep it real.
00:52:58.800 --> 00:53:03.199
In fact, I started writing a book uh a while ago called Layers.
00:53:03.519 --> 00:53:05.119
This was amazing.
00:53:05.280 --> 00:53:09.840
Um, keep us informed on the progress of layers.
00:53:10.000 --> 00:53:13.199
We'd love to have you back when that book comes out.
00:53:13.519 --> 00:53:17.519
Well, if you think you're spooked out now, just yeah, right.
00:53:18.000 --> 00:53:18.480
Right.
00:53:18.800 --> 00:53:20.559
Always read during daylight.
00:53:20.880 --> 00:53:26.239
Yeah, I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm gonna sleep with the lights on when I read that book.
00:53:26.480 --> 00:53:30.320
So, Christy, thank you so much for your time.
00:53:30.480 --> 00:53:31.519
This has been fantastic.
00:53:31.760 --> 00:53:35.039
Oh, well, I appreciate y'all having me uh with y'all today.
00:53:35.679 --> 00:53:36.639
It it has been.
00:53:36.719 --> 00:53:40.639
And I can't wait for us to be able to go on a tour, Helen, because we're going.
00:53:41.199 --> 00:53:43.039
Oh, we definitely are going.
00:53:43.519 --> 00:53:43.840
For sure.
00:53:44.480 --> 00:53:44.960
Oh, yeah.
00:53:45.119 --> 00:53:46.960
I'll give it to you for sure.
00:53:47.119 --> 00:53:49.119
I mean, when y'all are ready, just call me up.
00:53:49.280 --> 00:53:49.920
Let's do this.
00:53:50.079 --> 00:53:54.000
Let's walk, let's walk this land and see what it has.
00:54:04.320 --> 00:54:06.480
So, Helen, yeah.
00:54:06.800 --> 00:54:08.480
That was an exciting interview.
00:54:08.639 --> 00:54:10.079
What did you think of that?
00:54:10.480 --> 00:54:16.719
It was it, I think it was less of an interview and more of a story time with Christy.
00:54:16.880 --> 00:54:18.480
And then what happened?
00:54:18.800 --> 00:54:20.000
Oh my gosh.
00:54:20.159 --> 00:54:24.400
I didn't know if I wanted to hear more or I was too afraid to hear more.
00:54:24.880 --> 00:54:25.920
Right, right.
00:54:26.079 --> 00:54:32.800
I I mean, I am just I am blown away at how she was led to the Oliver House.
00:54:32.960 --> 00:54:47.360
Going back to when she was a child and and you know, being um very sensitive or having the gift to tap into the different energies around her was completely um squelched.
00:54:47.679 --> 00:54:52.320
And as an adult, um, she became more in touch with it.
00:54:52.400 --> 00:55:05.840
And once she did, she kind of took off inventing different types of equipment and getting more and more involved and doing all the experimentation um and exploration that she did.
00:55:05.920 --> 00:55:18.000
And it's it's just so funny and so fitting to me that she has wound up at the Oliver House and she is now sharing the stories of all the families that lived in that house.
00:55:18.239 --> 00:55:19.119
Oh my gosh.
00:55:19.280 --> 00:55:25.599
And not only that, but my wishes and dreams came true, Helen, and we got to go to the Oliver House.
00:55:25.920 --> 00:55:26.559
We did.
00:55:27.039 --> 00:55:30.000
It was such a great experience.
00:55:30.320 --> 00:55:36.559
I loved every minute of it from the historical aspects, the architecture.
00:55:36.880 --> 00:55:40.480
What a gracious home for the 1700s.
00:55:40.639 --> 00:55:42.159
It was beautiful.
00:55:42.400 --> 00:55:44.320
Yes, I loved it.
00:55:44.639 --> 00:55:52.639
And Christy's knowledge of like all of the occupants of that house over the years was just amazing.
00:55:53.599 --> 00:55:56.480
It was, it was mind-blowing.
00:55:56.639 --> 00:55:59.280
She was so generous with her time.
00:55:59.840 --> 00:56:11.760
And we need to shout out Bonnie Sanderson Cribbins, um, who also joined us for that half day adventure learning all about the Oliver House.
00:56:12.000 --> 00:56:12.960
Oh my gosh.
00:56:13.440 --> 00:56:22.800
One of what, well, one of the one of the pieces of equipment Bonnie brought, you actually were able to hold throughout the house.
00:56:22.960 --> 00:56:24.480
Talk a little bit about that.
00:56:24.800 --> 00:56:34.239
That piece of equipment, which just it was like a Geiger counter for energies, so you would see it blink on as energies were near you.
00:56:34.639 --> 00:56:37.119
And I wasn't really paying close attention to it.
00:56:37.280 --> 00:56:43.440
And as is normal for me, the things that are most attracted to me are the pets and the children.
00:56:43.840 --> 00:56:57.920
So I had the strangest experience as Christy was explaining about one of the pets, a dog that's in the house, of feeling as though I had electric static brush up against my ankle.
00:56:58.000 --> 00:57:00.480
And I was like, huh, that's unusual.
00:57:00.639 --> 00:57:04.800
And as I look down at the reader, the reader was blinking red.
00:57:05.199 --> 00:57:07.679
So she's like, Oh yeah, that's the dog.
00:57:07.840 --> 00:57:09.519
Like the dog is here near you.
00:57:09.760 --> 00:57:10.880
So that was so cool.
00:57:11.039 --> 00:57:12.719
And then the little children.
00:57:12.960 --> 00:57:22.159
Oh, and and you just hold that piece of equipment and you could tell about how tall the entity had been in life.
00:57:22.400 --> 00:57:23.599
It was so cool.
00:57:23.920 --> 00:57:28.079
You had a piece of equipment that was tons of fun as well.
00:57:28.800 --> 00:57:43.840
I almost like threw it across the room or dropped it on a couple of occasions, but I actually had the piece of equipment that would pick out words that the energies were trying to communicate that it wasn't audible to the human ear.
00:57:44.159 --> 00:57:49.599
But this piece of equipment would register it and the equipment would say the word.
00:57:50.159 --> 00:57:54.800
And as I was holding it, some energy wanted to correct Bonnie.
00:57:54.880 --> 00:57:58.000
She said, Oh, I can't remember if it was nine or 10.
00:57:58.079 --> 00:58:00.639
And the machinery spoke and said, Nine.
00:58:01.199 --> 00:58:03.440
That was one of the times I almost threw it across the room.
00:58:03.519 --> 00:58:05.199
I was like, Are you kidding me?
00:58:05.679 --> 00:58:06.639
Are you kidding me?
00:58:06.800 --> 00:58:07.119
Oh my gosh.
00:58:07.599 --> 00:58:17.199
And it registered specific words to um, she was explaining where Benjamin Franklin's secret letters were found.
00:58:17.679 --> 00:58:21.280
And they were found in a closet upstairs.
00:58:22.079 --> 00:58:34.559
And Christy jokingly refers to the closet as the bacon and eggs room because there is a hand, there's hand stamped wallpaper that lines the inside of this closet.
00:58:34.639 --> 00:58:38.239
And she's made a joke about it looks like bacon and eggs.
00:58:38.400 --> 00:58:47.280
And when she mentioned Benjamin Franklin's letters, the piece of equipment spoke and said bacon and then eggs.
00:58:47.519 --> 00:58:49.599
And she hadn't even mentioned that.
00:58:49.760 --> 00:58:52.320
So I said, Well, apparently somebody's hungry.
00:58:52.480 --> 00:58:53.920
They want breakfast.
00:58:54.159 --> 00:58:56.480
And she said, What's it registering?
00:58:56.639 --> 00:58:58.320
And I said, bacon and eggs.
00:58:58.480 --> 00:59:00.480
She said, Oh, it's because I mentioned the letters.
00:59:00.559 --> 00:59:02.559
And then she explained it to us.
00:59:02.719 --> 00:59:20.800
And again, I almost dropped the piece of equipment, but we spent the better part of a Sunday afternoon touring the house with Christy, getting to play around with some of the equipment and learning, I'm sure, just some of the stories that the Oliver households.
00:59:21.199 --> 00:59:23.360
It was just, it was so amazing.
00:59:23.440 --> 00:59:25.360
And and they have other events there.
00:59:25.519 --> 00:59:28.480
They had people doing photography there for a calendar.
00:59:28.639 --> 00:59:39.920
So it it's such a versatile piece of property that they do so much with, and that they've got the Halloween events, but then Christmas events coming up too.
00:59:40.159 --> 00:59:40.960
I right.
00:59:41.199 --> 00:59:43.519
You know, like you sit there and you go, sign me up for it all.
00:59:43.599 --> 00:59:44.480
I want to be there.
00:59:44.800 --> 00:59:49.199
It is a gorgeous property, a very historic property.
00:59:49.360 --> 00:59:54.960
Um, in Christy's opinion, a very pivotal property to the Revolutionary War.
00:59:55.199 --> 00:59:57.440
This was just a great time.
00:59:58.000 --> 00:59:59.840
And um, Christy, we cannot.
01:00:00.159 --> 01:00:05.760
Thank you enough for your generosity of time and sharing all those stories with us.
01:00:06.159 --> 01:00:10.880
If you're interested in learning more about the Oliver House, jump down to our show notes.
01:00:10.960 --> 01:00:16.480
We've got links to the Oliver House website, their social media platforms.
01:00:16.719 --> 01:00:26.320
And regardless of the time of year, Maureen and I highly encourage a visit there to see the sites and learn more about this specific property.
01:00:26.800 --> 01:00:34.960
We also want to give everybody a reminder, since Maureen, you brought up the holiday events that the Oliver House is holding.
01:00:35.199 --> 01:00:46.400
You've got a couple more days to submit your funny holiday memories, funny holiday traditions, the worst gift you ever received, and the best gift you ever received.
01:00:46.639 --> 01:00:54.320
We're looking to have some of our listeners become part of our holiday episode coming up on Christmas week.
01:00:54.639 --> 01:00:56.559
So jump down to the show notes.
01:00:56.639 --> 01:01:03.519
We have a link to our online form so you can share as much or as little as you'd like in any of those four categories.
01:01:03.840 --> 01:01:18.000
Maureen and I will look through, we'll read as many as we can, and we're gonna reach out to some of our favorite submissions to see if you would like to record with us and be an audio part of our holiday episode.
01:01:18.239 --> 01:01:21.039
So that's a reminder for the upcoming holiday.
01:01:21.119 --> 01:01:28.960
And then we have a super cool announcement on Halloween night from 8 p.m.
01:01:29.119 --> 01:01:30.000
to 9 p.m.
01:01:30.239 --> 01:01:31.119
Eastern time.
01:01:31.679 --> 01:01:40.880
Christy Parrish will be sharing her paranormal stories live on our Facebook community page.
01:01:41.199 --> 01:01:47.360
So you're gonna want to make plans to join us for that if you enjoyed this episode.
01:01:47.840 --> 01:01:48.239
Yeah.
01:01:48.480 --> 01:01:51.760
Light the candles and get ready for the spooky stories, kids.
01:01:52.880 --> 01:01:54.480
Yeah, absolutely.
01:01:54.719 --> 01:02:05.840
We'll also have some Oliver House giveaways to share with folks who join us on Halloween night for ghost stories or paranormal stories with Christy.
01:02:06.159 --> 01:02:22.079
We will be spinning our wheel of winners to choose the winners of several giveaways that Maureen and I are donating, as well as Christy, because she is going to be making a couple incredibly generous donations.
01:02:22.480 --> 01:02:36.960
So if you are into paranormal and have an interest in visiting the Oliver House, you are going to want to make sure your name gets entered in our Wheel of Winners so that when we spin, you've got a shot at some of these giveaways.
01:02:37.199 --> 01:02:38.960
I can't wait to see everybody.
01:02:39.280 --> 01:02:39.920
I know.
01:02:40.159 --> 01:02:41.599
That's it for this week.
01:02:41.840 --> 01:02:44.000
Maureen, any parting words?
01:02:44.320 --> 01:02:45.920
Happy Halloween, everyone.
01:02:46.159 --> 01:02:47.679
Yeah, happy Halloween.
01:02:47.760 --> 01:02:52.079
And we can't wait to do spooky October next year.
