ABOUT THIS EPISODE
What happens when the uniform comes off—but the part of you that wants to serve is still there?
Military life gives you a mission, a team, structure, and a reason people are counting on you.
Then transition comes, and nobody hands you the next set of orders.
For a married couple who have both served, the question becomes even more interesting:
How do you build the next mission together without trying to recreate the life you just left?
In this episode of Your Thoughts, Your Reality, Michael Cole sits down with Air Force veterans Justin and Misty Williams, husband and wife and founders of Bombshell Suds Company.
Justin served more than 20 years in Air Force Security Forces, including about a decade as a military working dog handler. Misty is an Air Force veteran and registered nurse whose healthcare background helps shape the couple’s approach to skin care, ingredients, health, and function.
Together, Mike, Justin, and Misty explore Mission — The 2nd Silent War and what happens when purpose is no longer assigned to you.
For Justin, retiring from the military itself was not the hardest part.
The bigger question was:
“What now?”
Misty found another way to serve through nursing, fitness, and helping others. Justin found himself searching for what would pull him toward the next chapter.
That distinction becomes one of the strongest themes in this conversation.
There is a difference between doing something because you have to and finding something you genuinely get to do.
Justin describes Bombshell Suds as something that can keep him up late and get him up early without feeling like another obligation. What began after seeing handmade soap at a Texas market and thinking, “I bet I can make this,” gradually became something much bigger.
They experimented.
They changed formulas.
They worked on longevity, dry skin, scents, and the experience of actually using the product.
Then customers began coming back.
Families started referring other families.
And what started as an idea began feeling like a mission.
This conversation directly connects to several of The 10 Silent Wars:
- Mission — The 2nd Silent War: “What are we choosing to build now that nobody else is assigning the mission?”
- Identity — The 1st Silent War: “Who are we after military service becomes part of our past rather than our daily role?”
- Connection — The 3rd Silent War: “How do we stay connected as spouses while also becoming business partners?”
- Control — The 4th Silent War: “What can we actually control when entrepreneurship is unpredictable?”
- Direction — The 8th Silent War: “How do we know when we’ve found something worth moving toward?”
Justin and Misty also get honest about something many couples who work together understand:
Marriage does not have rank.
The work ethic, persistence, and “no quit” mentality they developed through military life have helped them tremendously as entrepreneurs.
But some military habits do not belong at home.
Misty jokes that Justin cannot “pull rank” on her, and they discuss the importance of remembering that your spouse is not one of your troops or employees.
For them, working together requires communication, flexibility, asking for help, and recognizing that both partners will not always be operating at 100%.
Sometimes one person carries more.
Sometimes the other does.
The mission still belongs to both of them.
Misty also brings another perspective into the conversation through nursing: you cannot serve everyone else indefinitely while completely neglecting yourself.
She sees what can happen when people spend years pouring into everyone around them while ignoring their own physical, mental, and emotional health.
Self-care is not separate from mission.
It is part of maintaining the person responsible for carrying it.
Justin and Misty ultimately describe their next chapter in a simple way:
Their commitment to service did not disappear.
The mission changed.
Instead of serving inside a military organization, they are building something of their own—one product, one customer, one family, and one bar of soap at a time.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- Why transition can be less about leaving the military and more about finding what comes next
- How Justin and Misty experienced military transition differently
- What it feels like when a new purpose begins pulling you toward it
- How Bombshell Suds grew from an experiment into a family mission
- Which military habits helped them become stronger business partners
- Which military leadership habits absolutely do not belong in a marriage
- Why communication matters when spouses live and work together
- How Misty’s nursing experience shapes their approach to health and self-care
- Why entrepreneurship requires focusing on what you can actually control
- How service can remain part of your identity even when the mission itself changes
If this conversation resonated with you, ask yourself:
What are we building now?
Maybe your next mission is not a business.
Maybe it is your family, your health, your marriage, your community, or an idea you cannot seem to stop thinking about.
Pay attention to what keeps pulling you back.
There may be a reason.

00:00:01.520 --> 00:00:04.080
What happens when the uniform comes off?
00:00:04.639 --> 00:00:07.280
But the part of you that wants to serve is still there.
00:00:07.839 --> 00:00:12.800
Military life gives you a mission, a team, structure, and a reason people are counting on you.
00:00:13.039 --> 00:00:16.640
Then transition comes and nobody hands you the next set of orders.
00:00:16.879 --> 00:00:22.160
For couples who've but who've both served, the question gets even more interesting.
00:00:22.480 --> 00:00:31.039
How do two people carry what the military gave them into a new chapter without tying, sorry, trying to recreate the life they just left?
00:00:31.199 --> 00:00:40.560
Today's conversation is about mission, the second silent war, and what it looks like when purpose stops being assigned and becomes something a family chooses to build together.
00:00:43.200 --> 00:00:52.320
Welcome to Your Thoughts, Your Reality with Michael Cole, the podcast that shines a compassionate light on the journey of veterans battling through life's challenges.

00:01:15.439 --> 00:01:23.359
Together, let's uncover the strength within you to re-engage with families and society, forging a new path forward.
00:01:27.840 --> 00:01:33.760
Justin and Misty Williams are Air Force veterans, husband and wife, and the founders of Bombshell Suds Company.
00:01:33.920 --> 00:01:42.159
Justin served 20 years and 26K in security forces, including a decade of military working dog handler.
00:01:42.480 --> 00:01:50.159
Misty is an Air Force veteran and registered nurse whose healthcare experience helps guide the company's approach to ingredients, skin, and function.
00:01:50.400 --> 00:02:00.079
Bombshell Suds Company is a family-run small batch soap company built for veterans, military members, first responders, blue-collar workers, and other hardworking people.
00:02:00.239 --> 00:02:02.319
And by the way, guys, the soap is fantastic.
00:02:02.719 --> 00:02:04.560
I use it myself, absolutely.
00:02:04.719 --> 00:02:11.120
Uh, their next mission brings service, craftsmanship, marriage, family, and the entrepreneurship together under one roof.
00:02:11.199 --> 00:02:12.159
And that's a lot.
00:02:12.400 --> 00:02:15.280
Justin and Misty, uh, welcome to your thoughts, your reality.
00:02:15.360 --> 00:02:17.439
If you will, just tell us a little more about yourself.
00:02:18.000 --> 00:02:18.560
Go ahead.
00:02:18.800 --> 00:02:19.680
Oh my gosh.
00:02:19.919 --> 00:02:20.240
Okay.
00:02:20.479 --> 00:02:21.919
So yeah, well, I'm Misty.
00:02:22.080 --> 00:02:24.800
I'm married to this guy last 15 years.
00:02:25.120 --> 00:02:26.240
It's been fun.
00:02:26.960 --> 00:02:37.759
I was I was in the military for just a short while and then decided to still serve by being a nurse, but I also teach group fitness.
00:02:37.840 --> 00:02:40.960
So it's just always been in my nature to serve.
00:02:41.759 --> 00:02:42.639
Help others, yeah.
00:02:42.800 --> 00:02:43.919
Yeah, and help others.
00:02:44.159 --> 00:02:45.520
So yeah.
00:02:45.919 --> 00:02:46.319
Justin.
00:02:46.400 --> 00:02:47.599
How about how about you, Justin?
00:02:47.840 --> 00:02:48.639
And then I'm Justin.
00:02:48.719 --> 00:02:51.120
I'm married to Misty, 15 years, born 16.
00:02:51.280 --> 00:02:53.360
Um, joined right out of high school.
00:02:53.520 --> 00:02:54.560
I didn't really have a plan.
00:02:54.719 --> 00:02:59.039
I barely made it through high school, and then I just one thing led to another.
00:02:59.199 --> 00:03:00.159
I just I stayed in.
00:03:00.319 --> 00:03:01.520
I was too dumb to quit.
00:03:01.840 --> 00:03:04.800
So that that's that's the God's honest truth.
00:03:04.879 --> 00:03:06.400
And then she was my biggest motivator.
00:03:06.479 --> 00:03:12.400
Every time I wanted to separate, when time came to separate, she said, just a little bit longer, a little bit longer will be worth it.
00:03:12.960 --> 00:03:14.639
And then time came.
00:03:14.879 --> 00:03:19.039
I retired, we retired from the military, and then we were like, what now?
00:03:19.439 --> 00:03:22.560
And that's where we are now is is still what now?
00:03:23.120 --> 00:03:24.479
Yeah, absolutely get that.
00:03:24.560 --> 00:03:25.759
And and that's life, right?
00:03:25.840 --> 00:03:27.199
I mean, you're always looking.
00:03:27.360 --> 00:03:28.879
Well, I shouldn't say that.
00:03:29.199 --> 00:03:33.199
Successful entrepreneurs are always looking for, you know, what's next?
00:03:33.280 --> 00:03:34.080
What are we working on?
00:03:34.159 --> 00:03:34.560
And so on.
00:03:34.639 --> 00:03:35.439
So I love that, man.
00:03:35.840 --> 00:03:40.639
So you guys both wore the uniform, but you know, transition doesn't hit two people the same way, right?
00:03:40.879 --> 00:03:46.400
When military life started becoming, you know, the past, what did each of you miss most?
00:03:46.639 --> 00:03:51.120
And where were your experiences like totally completely different?
00:03:52.319 --> 00:03:53.840
That's a good question.
00:03:56.000 --> 00:03:56.639
I don't know.
00:03:56.800 --> 00:04:02.400
For me, like in the military, I just really didn't feel like I belonged there, even though I wanted to serve.
00:04:03.360 --> 00:04:07.759
So once I got out, I've always just had a strong background in fitness.
00:04:07.919 --> 00:04:11.919
And like I said, both my parents are retired police officers.
00:04:12.000 --> 00:04:17.759
So it just felt like the next step for me to was to go into being a police officer.
00:04:18.319 --> 00:04:19.759
And so I I did that.
00:04:19.839 --> 00:04:20.720
I was daff.
00:04:21.279 --> 00:04:25.439
And I just I don't really know.
00:04:25.920 --> 00:04:31.600
I just so you go to the military and kind of went into nursing.
00:04:31.680 --> 00:04:35.040
And so what do you think was different from from well?
00:04:35.120 --> 00:04:39.920
Let me ask Justin first, and then let's come back to what how they were possibly different.
00:04:40.160 --> 00:04:43.439
So Justin, same, same question for you, brother.
00:04:44.079 --> 00:04:45.360
So, what was my service like?
00:04:45.680 --> 00:04:46.959
It was it was a roller coaster.
00:04:47.040 --> 00:04:49.279
I think everybody's time in the military is a roller coaster.
00:04:49.360 --> 00:04:52.000
Uh it wasn't all uh rainbows and and unicorns.
00:04:52.240 --> 00:04:55.759
Yeah, I'm I'm I'm I'm looking more for after the military.
00:04:55.920 --> 00:05:04.079
So during the transition, um we didn't kind of start becoming the the past and and what did what did you miss the most?
00:05:04.399 --> 00:05:06.480
It's been it's been the past the whole time.
00:05:06.639 --> 00:05:09.279
I was never headset on the military.
00:05:09.360 --> 00:05:12.959
So transitioning, taking the uniform off is pretty simple.
00:05:13.279 --> 00:05:17.439
It's always been trying to find a mission.
00:05:17.600 --> 00:05:19.279
What do I what do I do next?
00:05:19.360 --> 00:05:19.600
How?
00:05:19.680 --> 00:05:20.639
What do I do with my hands?
00:05:20.720 --> 00:05:23.920
Like Ricky Bobby says, what do I do with my hands?
00:05:25.600 --> 00:05:30.720
So there there really was no issue leaving that world behind.
00:05:30.879 --> 00:05:32.959
It's finding the new world to go to.
00:05:33.279 --> 00:05:33.759
Got it.
00:05:33.920 --> 00:05:37.839
So what do you guys think was different for was it different for you guys then?
00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:44.800
The the transition sounds like you were both ready to do it and you didn't really run into a lot of issues other than finding what am I doing next?
00:05:44.879 --> 00:05:47.680
And Misty sounds like she kind of knew already.
00:05:48.000 --> 00:05:49.839
Yeah, no, Misty definitely had it on.
00:05:49.920 --> 00:05:51.439
It's it's me, I'm the lost one.
00:05:51.600 --> 00:05:54.240
I think I'm more like Peter Pan, never want to grow up.
00:05:55.360 --> 00:05:57.439
Hey, there's nothing wrong with that.
00:05:58.879 --> 00:06:02.000
So so that's that's that's the only answer I can come up with.
00:06:02.079 --> 00:06:04.319
I just I don't I don't know how to grow up.
00:06:04.720 --> 00:06:07.120
Okay, that's fair.
00:06:07.279 --> 00:06:09.040
So people say that about me too.
00:06:09.120 --> 00:06:12.800
I tell people I'm never going to because when I do, I'm gonna die.
00:06:13.040 --> 00:06:13.920
Yeah, exactly.
00:06:14.560 --> 00:06:16.800
It's yeah, it's just who I am, you know.
00:06:17.040 --> 00:06:21.120
So uh you've been uh open about you know struggling to rebuild that structure, right?
00:06:21.199 --> 00:06:23.120
We're just talking about what the next purpose is.
00:06:23.279 --> 00:06:25.040
So my question is to Misty.
00:06:25.360 --> 00:06:30.000
What were you seeing in him during that transition that he may not have been able to see in himself?
00:06:30.079 --> 00:06:30.720
Yeah.
00:06:31.680 --> 00:06:36.639
Uh I know I've got tough questions, don't I?
00:06:36.959 --> 00:06:37.600
Yeah.
00:06:38.399 --> 00:06:45.519
Well, I just saw that, I mean, I knew he wasn't ready to fully retire because he has to stay busy.
00:06:45.839 --> 00:06:54.879
And I knew that he just needed to find something that he enjoyed doing and also have like a love for it.
00:06:55.120 --> 00:06:58.800
And I was just kind of letting him try to figure it out, you know.
00:06:59.360 --> 00:07:04.720
You know, so he was like bouncing around from one civilian job to the other.
00:07:04.879 --> 00:07:06.319
And I was like, I don't care.
00:07:06.480 --> 00:07:14.399
Like my constant is in nursing, so it doesn't really matter where I'm gonna go, we're gonna have we're gonna be okay.
00:07:14.879 --> 00:07:16.800
So just letting him figure it out.
00:07:16.879 --> 00:07:18.800
But I knew he had to do something.
00:07:19.199 --> 00:07:19.439
Right.
00:07:19.920 --> 00:07:20.800
Yeah, and amen, amen.
00:07:21.120 --> 00:07:26.240
Because that that, you know, that's the uh I don't want to call it the norm, but that's the pattern, right?
00:07:26.399 --> 00:07:35.040
Is you get out of the military after so long and you don't have the orders, you don't have somebody telling you what to do, you don't have any of that shit, and all of a sudden it's like, what am I gonna do?
00:07:35.120 --> 00:07:40.560
And that's what I've seen the the biggest biggest struggle in with what I you know work with, you know, with people.
00:07:40.720 --> 00:07:42.959
So it's not just military guys.
00:07:43.040 --> 00:07:56.959
I mean, it's it could be police, it could be any anything, a corporate job, and all of a sudden you're in a new one and it doesn't fit, you know, you're just not finding that purpose, you know, because I think that's what everybody's really looking for.
00:07:57.040 --> 00:07:57.839
Would you agree with that?
00:07:58.000 --> 00:07:58.240
Really?
00:07:58.319 --> 00:07:59.519
It's just finding that purpose.
00:07:59.920 --> 00:08:00.480
No, 100%.
00:08:00.800 --> 00:08:02.000
That's that's exactly what it is.
00:08:02.160 --> 00:08:07.680
And even even so, what is that purpose with when you come and once you find it, how do you know you found it?
00:08:08.079 --> 00:08:09.439
So answer that for me.
00:08:09.519 --> 00:08:10.319
I love that.
00:08:12.879 --> 00:08:15.519
I mean, for me, it makes me feel good, you know.
00:08:16.000 --> 00:08:30.560
Um, it's definitely like rewarding for me when I when I'm in where I'm supposed to be, I feel good, everything kind of works out, and even when you have your bad days, it's okay because you're doing what you love.
00:08:30.879 --> 00:08:43.840
Absolutely, absolutely, and I love that because like for me, you know, we own three different companies, and I I I think the simplest answer is it gets you up early in the morning and keeps you up late at night, right?
00:08:43.919 --> 00:08:45.200
That's when you find your purpose.
00:08:45.759 --> 00:08:50.159
So when you're so let's let's talk about the soap company if we can.
00:08:50.879 --> 00:08:52.080
No, that's what I was about to say.
00:08:52.159 --> 00:08:59.679
That seems to be soap because soap has it up early in the morning, has me up late at night, and it doesn't it never feels like work, even though I'm always busy with it.
00:08:59.759 --> 00:09:06.000
I'm I'm never tired about my I'm never not once have I said, damn, I really gotta do this and I don't want to.
00:09:06.240 --> 00:09:07.039
Yes, yeah.
00:09:07.200 --> 00:09:11.440
I love you said that because really it's about being pulled towards something and not pushed towards it, right?
00:09:11.600 --> 00:09:27.279
Yes, there's such a huge difference when you're pushed, because people can have have discipline, they can have all those things, but with when you're not pulled towards something and you're I have to and I need to instead of I get to, and in fact, I just did a full speech about this.
00:09:27.519 --> 00:09:34.320
Um, but it it feels so different, and that's the difference between someone that's gonna burn out and someone that's enjoying what they're doing.
00:09:34.559 --> 00:09:35.120
Yes, sir.
00:09:35.759 --> 00:09:36.639
Yeah, I love that.
00:09:36.799 --> 00:09:38.639
So let's talk about the soap company.
00:09:38.720 --> 00:09:45.120
So bomb fill suds uh started partly as a way to create purpose and keep moving, is what I'm getting from you guys.
00:09:45.360 --> 00:09:52.799
At what point did it stop feeling like something we're trying and start feeling like a mission that the whole family could actually believe in?
00:09:53.919 --> 00:10:03.279
I think once we started getting, I think the physical results from the the soap, as far as when we we when we use it in the shower, right?
00:10:03.360 --> 00:10:17.440
Uh, we've gone through so many different formulas to try to tie in the dry skin that you we would get, or the bars lasting longer, or even the scents, because she's the wizard with the scents.
00:10:17.919 --> 00:10:33.120
Once we started putting all the the pieces together to that puzzle and actually create a formula that actually takes care of the dry skin, it lasts a while in the shower, and and it hits those those scent notes that people really like, that's when it really started making a difference.
00:10:33.440 --> 00:10:35.840
Yeah, I think it just happened kind of gradually.
00:10:36.000 --> 00:10:41.679
We start seeing people coming back, or you know, hey, I loved your soap.
00:10:41.759 --> 00:10:44.720
I went and told this person about it, and now their family's ordering.
00:10:44.960 --> 00:10:50.159
I'm like, oh my gosh, this is this could really be something bigger than we thought.
00:10:50.399 --> 00:10:52.080
Yeah, absolutely love it.
00:10:52.159 --> 00:10:57.840
And and it's it's it's when you're starting as an entrepreneur, it's scary as hell, right?
00:10:58.000 --> 00:11:00.080
I'm sure you've through this as well.
00:11:00.159 --> 00:11:08.000
Like every company has started passionate about it, driven, like ready to go, but they're still in the back of your head, just a little bit going, Well shit.
00:11:08.240 --> 00:11:09.440
Yep, every day.
00:11:09.919 --> 00:11:14.080
Every day, absolutely, absolutely, and I think that keeps you on your toes to some extent, yeah.
00:11:14.320 --> 00:11:15.039
No, 100%.
00:11:15.360 --> 00:11:19.200
Uh every day is you had to be a cat, a cat on a hot stove.
00:11:19.279 --> 00:11:23.679
You you had to be quick to hop off and have to hit the next thing because it's so fluid.
00:11:23.840 --> 00:11:25.279
It you can't control it.
00:11:25.519 --> 00:11:26.399
Yeah, absolutely.
00:11:26.559 --> 00:11:27.759
Control what you can control.
00:11:27.919 --> 00:11:28.879
That's yourself, right?
00:11:28.960 --> 00:11:31.200
That's the only thing in the world we can actually control.
00:11:31.919 --> 00:11:33.120
I can't even do that sometimes.
00:11:33.279 --> 00:11:34.080
Yeah, yeah, okay.
00:11:35.200 --> 00:11:37.440
I res I respect that.
00:11:38.879 --> 00:11:41.519
Yeah, my um what was that?
00:11:41.679 --> 00:11:46.799
I said no, I was just gonna say, yeah, my my attitude and temper tend to get the best of me most times.
00:11:47.039 --> 00:11:49.039
Yeah, well, we're gonna work on that.
00:11:50.240 --> 00:11:51.759
I got you, brother.
00:11:52.639 --> 00:11:55.679
Um, so so military teams have rank, right?
00:11:55.840 --> 00:11:58.080
Role standards, and clear authority.
00:11:58.399 --> 00:11:59.759
Marriage doesn't.
00:12:00.159 --> 00:12:05.600
So I have another another couple of uh veterans married that uh come on here as well.
00:12:05.759 --> 00:12:08.720
So I'm always I think it's really important.
00:12:09.200 --> 00:12:10.240
How do I say this?
00:12:10.480 --> 00:12:20.480
Really important to to bring to light the the challenges, the successes, obviously, all of those things that come with that.
00:12:20.799 --> 00:12:26.879
So because it's not easy to work together, live together, all of those things.
00:12:27.039 --> 00:12:28.639
My wife and I do it as well, you know.
00:12:28.720 --> 00:12:30.480
I mean, what was that?
00:12:31.120 --> 00:12:32.000
We were just laughing.
00:12:32.159 --> 00:12:33.840
We we agreeings were laughing.
00:12:34.080 --> 00:12:35.360
Yeah, okay, got it, got it.
00:12:35.519 --> 00:12:40.639
So, so which military habits have made you stronger business partners?
00:12:40.799 --> 00:12:42.399
Uh let's start with that.
00:12:43.279 --> 00:12:45.440
Uh work ethic, I think.
00:12:45.840 --> 00:12:46.240
Sure.
00:12:46.720 --> 00:12:51.200
Our work both of us have, I think, ridiculous amounts of work ethic.
00:12:51.519 --> 00:12:54.639
There's no doll, there's no quit in in either of us.
00:12:55.120 --> 00:12:57.759
So that's one trait that we both carried over.
00:12:58.000 --> 00:12:59.519
Well that we picked up.
00:12:59.759 --> 00:13:04.080
I think we probably even both had it both before the military, the military just amplified it.
00:13:04.240 --> 00:13:07.840
And and now it just it just continues to grow.
00:13:08.799 --> 00:13:16.960
That's awesome that you guys found that because a lot of times people don't and they just kind of spin, you know, because they don't know where to go next and what to do next and that kind of thing.
00:13:17.120 --> 00:13:19.600
So congratulations, first of all, for figuring that out.
00:13:19.840 --> 00:13:24.080
Miss uh Misty, do you have something else or is that kind of yours as well?
00:13:24.480 --> 00:13:30.799
Yeah, no, our work ethic, and there we really like for either one of us, we we just don't stop.
00:13:31.200 --> 00:13:33.759
We're always looking for the next thing to get into.
00:13:34.000 --> 00:13:35.600
We constantly staying busy.
00:13:35.679 --> 00:13:38.480
And I mean, I guess that can be a fault as well.
00:13:38.879 --> 00:13:42.559
But for us, it's it's it worked out pretty well.
00:13:42.799 --> 00:13:43.840
Yeah, fantastic.
00:13:44.000 --> 00:13:47.279
And yeah, I think sometimes if you're too busy all the time, absolutely.
00:13:47.440 --> 00:14:08.159
You know, I I actually in the last probably year, even though, you know, again, like you guys, I'm I'm always looking to improve and and and do things, I've I've learned to step back a little bit because you know, other relationships, other things in life, we're we're and I'm obviously being a little vulnerable here, but that's what we do here.
00:14:08.240 --> 00:14:20.159
So, you know, we're we're we're being in a sense taken advantage of by me, you know, and and so I've really worked on stepping back and spending time and and for for family and myself for that matter.
00:14:20.399 --> 00:14:21.519
Yeah, same.
00:14:21.919 --> 00:14:24.320
I've learned to step back a little bit as well.
00:14:24.720 --> 00:14:25.360
I have not.
00:14:25.519 --> 00:14:27.919
No, I have not.
00:14:28.080 --> 00:14:29.919
I I haven't found that that balance yet.
00:14:30.159 --> 00:14:41.840
No, yeah, and it's it's challenging because a lot of times you're looking for well, there's all kinds of things you could be looking for by staying busy, but there's it validation, and I mean there's a million things, right?
00:14:42.000 --> 00:14:44.320
Or you just your mind goes and you need to stay busy.
00:14:44.480 --> 00:14:46.320
That's and that's where mine's at.
00:14:46.399 --> 00:14:52.960
It's it's it that's one of my I think downfalls with my uh PTST is just I I'm never I'm never done.
00:14:53.279 --> 00:14:54.080
Yeah, got it.
00:14:54.240 --> 00:14:55.440
Totally, totally get that.
00:14:55.600 --> 00:14:57.600
So, so let's let's flip that.
00:14:57.840 --> 00:15:01.840
We talked about what military habits have made you guys stronger business partners.
00:15:02.000 --> 00:15:06.480
Now, which ones would you say absolutely do not belong in a husband and wife company?
00:15:08.080 --> 00:15:11.039
Yeah, he cannot try to pull a rank on me.
00:15:13.200 --> 00:15:14.960
It doesn't work at all.
00:15:15.519 --> 00:15:17.679
And it yeah, it didn't work then either.
00:15:17.840 --> 00:15:22.399
So she says I bring rank into the manor.
00:15:22.559 --> 00:15:24.240
I've I've never brought rank into the mana.
00:15:24.399 --> 00:15:33.279
Yeah, in the beginning, he would totally try to like talk to me like one of his troops, and I'd be like, wait a minute, I am not one of your troops, calm down.
00:15:33.600 --> 00:15:35.440
Yeah, and I gotta tell you something.
00:15:35.600 --> 00:15:39.600
So again, my husband, uh, my my wife and I work together as well.
00:15:40.000 --> 00:15:57.759
And I don't know if it's a man thing or a leadership thing, or let's call it both, but I think that kind of happens naturally, and we have to remember that our our amazing family members aren't our employees, you know.
00:15:59.120 --> 00:15:59.840
That's key.
00:16:00.000 --> 00:16:03.759
Yeah, and I don't want to be real, I you know, there's times that didn't even realize I was doing it, you know.
00:16:03.919 --> 00:16:08.559
Yeah, so I I think it's uh hold on this podcast isn't about me.
00:16:09.039 --> 00:16:10.159
No, no, no.
00:16:10.639 --> 00:16:15.120
It makes me think also, like I I think I expect that also internally.
00:16:15.200 --> 00:16:18.159
I'm like, if I'm doing this, you should be doing it also.
00:16:18.720 --> 00:16:22.879
And I'm like, I'm like, I just because you're doing doesn't mean I have to do it right now.
00:16:23.039 --> 00:16:24.559
Like I'll get to it.
00:16:25.519 --> 00:16:26.080
Absolutely.
00:16:26.159 --> 00:16:37.039
And and I think that's one of the things that you have to, I don't think there's a work-life balance, I think there's a work-life flow because it's it's never, in my opinion, it's never truly balanced.
00:16:37.120 --> 00:16:38.480
I think it moves, right?
00:16:38.559 --> 00:16:42.240
There's certain times it's more family, certain times it's more work, that kind of thing.
00:16:42.399 --> 00:16:51.919
And I think that as long as you guys communicate, and I don't mean you guys specifically, but people communicate, I think that's where it makes a difference and it works.
00:16:52.159 --> 00:16:59.759
Yeah, you know, if one of us is tired, one of us is down, one of us is just in a bad mood, we want to theoretically kick the cat.
00:16:59.840 --> 00:17:01.039
I don't have a cat right now.
00:17:01.200 --> 00:17:06.319
Um animal activists, we're okay.
00:17:07.519 --> 00:17:15.920
So I I think that's kind of the key, though, really, is just communication of man, I'm at 10%, and the other person helps, you know, just to kind of balance.
00:17:16.160 --> 00:17:16.319
Yeah.
00:17:16.559 --> 00:17:17.599
Do you guys agree with that?
00:17:17.920 --> 00:17:18.480
Oh, yeah.
00:17:18.720 --> 00:17:22.559
Yeah, you can't always be a hundred percent all of the time.
00:17:22.799 --> 00:17:23.680
So yeah.
00:17:24.640 --> 00:17:24.960
Okay.
00:17:25.119 --> 00:17:32.799
So so Misty, with your nursing background, it helps shape the formulas and the way you think about the skin, skin, and the function of the soaps.
00:17:33.200 --> 00:17:40.480
How does caring for people in healthcare show up differently when the thing you're creating is a product someone uses at the end of a hard day?
00:17:41.519 --> 00:17:43.279
That's a great question.
00:17:46.240 --> 00:17:48.480
It really just comes down to self-care.
00:17:48.960 --> 00:17:57.039
You know, when you can take care of yourself externally, that's going to show up in different areas of your life.
00:17:57.279 --> 00:18:08.720
You know, you're gonna be happier, healthier, and probably, you know, people might want to be around you a little bit more than they were, you know.
00:18:09.119 --> 00:18:11.759
And that, you know, comes down to your health too.
00:18:11.839 --> 00:18:18.880
You know, just you know, if you're not taking care of your health, someone's gonna have to take care of you eventually.
00:18:19.200 --> 00:18:30.559
And for me, I I want to be able to take care of myself, both mentally, physically, emotionally, and that all just ties into everything for me.
00:18:30.720 --> 00:18:42.960
And I see that so much in in my patients, you know, they haven't taken care of themselves, but they've been pouring into somebody else, and now they're a hundred percent drained and their health is, you know, crap.
00:18:43.279 --> 00:18:50.160
Yeah, I love I love you say that because you know they say put your oxygen mask on first before you do your child or the thing.
00:18:50.880 --> 00:18:51.599
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:18:52.480 --> 00:18:53.759
Because here's the reality, right?
00:18:53.839 --> 00:18:55.680
And I want let's talk about this a little bit.
00:18:55.839 --> 00:19:01.519
If your health is bad, your your everything else is affected by it, right?
00:19:01.599 --> 00:19:02.480
We take it advantage.
00:19:02.559 --> 00:19:10.160
I I think we we take for granted is the word I'm looking for, our our health that is just gonna be there until it's not.
00:19:10.240 --> 00:19:11.920
And then it's like, how did this happen?
00:19:12.160 --> 00:19:12.960
Yeah, yeah.
00:19:13.119 --> 00:19:16.240
So do you see that a lot with with the nursing and so on?
00:19:16.559 --> 00:19:17.920
Oh, yeah, 100%.
00:19:18.400 --> 00:19:20.640
You know, they haven't taken care of themselves.
00:19:20.799 --> 00:19:28.799
And now, you know, even either way you look at it, whether you're healthy or not healthy, both are hard to stay healthy.
00:19:28.880 --> 00:19:31.039
It's hard to it's hard to stay there.
00:19:31.359 --> 00:19:37.440
And when you are unhealthy and you've lived all these unhealthy habits, that's a hard life too.
00:19:37.519 --> 00:19:45.119
When you're taking 16 different medications, you know, and you can't even make it to the bathroom.
00:19:45.279 --> 00:19:46.160
It's terrible.
00:19:46.400 --> 00:19:47.440
Yeah, absolutely.
00:19:47.599 --> 00:19:55.599
And I think I think it's uh my opinion, it's it's a little easier to take care of yourself before it goes wrong than it is after, yeah?
00:19:55.839 --> 00:19:56.319
Oh, 100%.
00:19:57.200 --> 00:19:58.880
Yeah, so so thank you.
00:19:59.200 --> 00:20:03.119
Justin, you've called Misty the real brains behind the business.
00:20:03.200 --> 00:20:06.000
And Misty is literally part of the bomb-shelling enemy, obviously.
00:20:06.319 --> 00:20:13.839
How do you decide who owns which part of the mission without turning every what's called disagreement into a battle over whose idea wins?
00:20:14.319 --> 00:20:19.279
I don't think we have set lines in the sand, or there's no lines in the sand with us.
00:20:19.519 --> 00:20:23.200
It's w w what am I taking care of today?
00:20:23.440 --> 00:20:24.319
Oh, you're doing this.
00:20:24.400 --> 00:20:26.319
Can do you want me to help you do that?
00:20:30.720 --> 00:20:33.519
Patterns that we have in our marriage into the business.
00:20:33.759 --> 00:20:35.759
Just helping each other out when we see we need help.
00:20:35.839 --> 00:20:43.599
And if they don't need help, I mean obviously asking and offering, but knowing that they don't need it, then I have other things that I'm gonna do too.
00:20:44.160 --> 00:20:45.119
I I love that.
00:20:45.359 --> 00:20:49.279
And I think that it's super important to everybody be seen and heard, yeah?
00:20:49.599 --> 00:20:50.799
Yeah, no, a hundred percent.
00:20:51.039 --> 00:20:51.359
Absolutely.
00:20:51.759 --> 00:20:53.680
But I'm always asking her opinion for everything.
00:20:54.000 --> 00:20:59.680
I don't make a decision unless I know she's gonna say yes without asking her and getting her thoughts.
00:20:59.839 --> 00:21:06.720
I I want her to feel heard and seen and that her voice does matter in this because it she is the the logo, she's Lady Bombshell.
00:21:07.279 --> 00:21:08.000
There you go.
00:21:08.160 --> 00:21:09.039
There you go.
00:21:09.440 --> 00:21:16.799
So, so would you say, I mean, that you you don't have certain roles.
00:21:16.960 --> 00:21:17.759
Is that correct?
00:21:18.079 --> 00:21:25.359
I mean, or or is it Misty takes care of like the financial parts of it, orders, whatever, and you make the soap?
00:21:25.440 --> 00:21:26.960
Is there or you guys both do everything?
00:21:27.039 --> 00:21:34.000
I'm we do everything right now, to be honest, he does about 98% of the work.
00:21:35.119 --> 00:21:35.440
Okay.
00:21:36.400 --> 00:21:42.240
Right now, like I'll say, hey, you know, we should make this scent or whatever.
00:21:42.400 --> 00:21:54.079
And I'll be like, Oh, I want I want my soap to smell like this, or and he's like, All right, and so we get the scents and stuff, and that's about as far as I go right now.
00:21:55.279 --> 00:21:56.480
So that's that's cool though.
00:21:56.559 --> 00:21:59.680
So when you guys are not totally going off the rails, you know, that's okay.
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:04.640
So when you guys are like, hey, I want a sandalwood or something like that.
00:22:04.880 --> 00:22:09.759
I mean, do you guys just take a bunch of different scents and you're just testing them and trying them?
00:22:09.839 --> 00:22:12.720
Or do you just put together, let me rephrase that.
00:22:12.880 --> 00:22:15.119
Do you put make bars with the scents like that?
00:22:15.200 --> 00:22:22.160
Or do you just put together the essential oils or whatever you guys use to make the scents and then decide to make the bars?
00:22:22.400 --> 00:22:22.640
Yep.
00:22:22.960 --> 00:22:28.559
We the second one, we tend to test out the scent first before we we waste product in the bars.
00:22:29.359 --> 00:22:37.119
We've been doing it, we made enough bars of soap to know that the scents sometimes change, and we've kind of put a finger on which ones do change.
00:22:43.279 --> 00:22:49.680
Talking about the fragrance we want to smell and get the keynotes, the base notes, and then putting it together and making sure she approves.
00:22:50.000 --> 00:22:50.559
Amen.
00:22:53.279 --> 00:22:56.160
Well, I'll tell you how this soap business came about.
00:22:56.319 --> 00:22:56.480
Okay.
00:22:56.640 --> 00:23:15.759
So he was yeah, he was we were down in Texas visiting, you know, family and stuff, and we were at a little market, and there was a lady there who was selling soap, and he's a hippie, okay, and he loves to just buy, loves to just buy local stuff, and that's great.
00:23:16.319 --> 00:23:21.039
So anyway, he's smelling the soap and everything, and he's like, I bet I can make this.
00:23:21.119 --> 00:23:22.960
And I was like, I bet you can.
00:23:23.200 --> 00:23:30.640
And so literally that weekend, we're at the store buying all the things that we need for him.
00:23:30.799 --> 00:23:32.799
I was like, Oh, we're really doing this?
00:23:35.279 --> 00:23:44.160
And I was like, okay, well, as long as um the soap smells good because I don't want it to smell like medicine and like plants.
00:23:44.880 --> 00:23:48.480
And he was like, Okay, so that's how that came about.
00:23:48.720 --> 00:23:50.880
And now here we are.
00:23:52.079 --> 00:23:53.279
And how long ago was this?
00:23:53.359 --> 00:23:54.079
I I don't remember.
00:23:54.640 --> 00:23:56.079
We started December.
00:23:56.160 --> 00:23:57.839
We we started making our own soap.
00:23:57.920 --> 00:24:05.359
I taught myself how to make soap, and then from there we've gone through different formulas with different products or different ingredients to make it to where it's at now.
00:24:05.680 --> 00:24:06.319
Very cool.
00:24:06.559 --> 00:24:11.920
So are you guys going to are you staying with soap or are you spoiler alert?
00:24:12.000 --> 00:24:12.720
No, I'm just okay.
00:24:12.880 --> 00:24:15.119
Are you gonna go on the balms?
00:24:15.440 --> 00:24:16.480
No, we've got beard balms.
00:24:16.880 --> 00:24:17.039
Okay.
00:24:17.680 --> 00:24:19.680
Next are the deodorants.
00:24:20.079 --> 00:24:25.119
And then she's been asking for uh a whipped tallow like face cream, skin cream.
00:24:25.440 --> 00:24:26.960
So that's on the line, also.
00:24:27.039 --> 00:24:40.559
It's just finding time to to work out the formulas and make sure that the science, science, sciences, the science, science system, whatever word that is, what whatever plural or yeah, fine.
00:24:41.119 --> 00:24:42.079
Science is there.
00:24:42.799 --> 00:24:44.160
Worked it hard for me.
00:24:45.920 --> 00:24:52.000
So um, let's see, I want to do one more question, and then we'll we'll kind of wrap up.
00:24:52.079 --> 00:24:56.799
So you've both spent parts of your life serving inside organizations larger than yourselves.
00:24:57.119 --> 00:24:59.200
Now the mission belongs to you.
00:24:59.759 --> 00:25:00.880
And I I love this.
00:25:01.200 --> 00:25:05.839
How has entrepreneurship changed what each of you believes service actually means?
00:25:11.119 --> 00:25:15.440
I don't think service has changed as far as the meaning goes.
00:25:15.599 --> 00:25:20.480
Our our goal is still to serve people and help make their lives better.
00:25:20.720 --> 00:25:22.480
And that's one bar at a time.
00:25:23.119 --> 00:25:26.559
I think as you can attest, you've used our soap.
00:25:26.720 --> 00:25:28.559
Our soap is different than other people's soap.
00:25:29.920 --> 00:25:36.960
Not just for the longevity aspect, because as as we talked about, your soap's lasting long, but that's done on purpose.
00:25:37.119 --> 00:25:49.759
Everything that we do is on purpose, and there's a meaning behind it, which translates to serving people and making sure that their hard-earned dollar is not being wasted on a bar that's going to dissolve in in a couple days.
00:25:50.160 --> 00:25:54.880
So service hasn't changed, our view mindset hasn't changed, just the mission has it.
00:25:55.279 --> 00:25:58.319
The mission is now giving out a good bar of soap.
00:25:58.799 --> 00:25:59.680
I I love it.
00:25:59.920 --> 00:26:00.400
I love it.
00:26:00.559 --> 00:26:05.920
So would you would you say Let me let me go back one step?
00:26:06.079 --> 00:26:13.039
Is the is the long-term mission to make this a very large company, or are you gonna stay small and niche?
00:26:14.079 --> 00:26:18.160
I want to stay small but large, if that makes sense.
00:26:19.359 --> 00:26:21.119
A small field but a large enough company.
00:26:21.440 --> 00:26:22.000
Correct.
00:26:22.240 --> 00:26:25.039
To where we can only focus on soap.
00:26:25.279 --> 00:26:33.440
Like we can wake up, take care of ourselves, i.e., work out, spend time with the kids, the dogs, do what we have to do, but soap is our main priority.
00:26:33.759 --> 00:26:35.599
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely love it.
00:26:35.839 --> 00:26:37.920
Misty, do you want to add anything on that?
00:26:38.880 --> 00:26:45.359
Yeah, I mean, that's our goal is to be able to actually concentrate on soap a hundred percent.
00:26:45.519 --> 00:26:51.599
You know, either one of us or both of us can actually really retire and and concentrate on soap.
00:26:51.680 --> 00:26:52.960
That would be really nice.
00:26:53.279 --> 00:26:55.519
I think you guys both at some point.
00:26:55.920 --> 00:26:56.880
Yeah, yeah, hopefully.
00:26:57.119 --> 00:26:57.680
Oh, sorry.
00:26:57.920 --> 00:26:59.119
Yeah, hopefully.
00:26:59.680 --> 00:27:02.079
No, the the goal is always both of us that way.
00:27:02.319 --> 00:27:04.799
I said I've already got one retirement down.
00:27:05.119 --> 00:27:06.720
She's working on her retirement.
00:27:06.880 --> 00:27:07.359
Right.
00:27:07.599 --> 00:27:10.319
The goal is stay small but be big.
00:27:10.559 --> 00:27:11.440
Yeah, absolutely.
00:27:11.599 --> 00:27:12.319
Absolutely get it.

00:28:09.359 --> 00:28:09.920
Yeah, absolutely.
00:28:10.240 --> 00:28:12.480
We still rising tides raise all ships.
00:28:13.200 --> 00:28:14.079
Amen, man.
00:28:14.160 --> 00:28:14.480
Amen.
00:28:14.880 --> 00:28:19.039
As we know time is the most precious resource we have as human beings, we don't get it back.
00:28:19.200 --> 00:28:24.079

Absolutely.

Don't don't just go go buy not make it competition for you, but go find itself theoretically.
00:28:49.279 --> 00:28:53.519
You know, go buy the ingredients or whatever it is for you that lights you up.
00:28:53.839 --> 00:28:57.119
