ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Message the show & share your thoughts!
In this episode with guest co-host Arianna Smith, we weigh AI’s promise against its costs through a creative, mystical lens, stepping into the messy, practical reality of how we actually use AI.
From there we go deeper into the tradeoffs no one wants to talk about — the environmental costs of data centers and local fights around water and power. We look at the shaky economics behind the AI industry, the push to automate labor, and the imperative to use AI everywhere and expand its relevance.
Plus, AI that can lie, manipulate, and commit crimes. But also how chatbots affirm our worst thinking while keeping us isolated. As writers and readers, we also name why AI copy often feels hollow, and human words carry a warmth that can’t be faked.
Then, the best part — we consult the Tarot to ask questions of AI, and the cards we pulled were mind-blowing.
Here's the spread if you want to try it yourself:
1. AI, what do you want to tell us?
2. What should we be concerned about (re: AI)?
3. What should we be excited about?
4. What can we do to take care?
2025 was a "breakthrough year" for AI, and it'll be interesting to see what develops in 2026. If you want to share about your AI Tarot pulls, or how you're using and experiencing AI, let us know at hello@typewritertarot.com.

00:00:20.879 --> 00:00:23.039
Hello, creative spirits.
00:00:23.280 --> 00:00:31.839
Welcome to our first episode of your creative and magical life in the year 2026.
00:00:32.960 --> 00:00:36.079
And what a year it has been so far.
00:00:36.880 --> 00:00:43.520
I'm recording this 16 days into the year, and my head is already spinning.
00:00:43.920 --> 00:00:48.240
Feels very Wheel of Fortune-y, which is our card for 2026.
00:00:48.399 --> 00:00:52.240
That's because two plus zero plus two plus six equals ten.
00:00:52.640 --> 00:00:53.920
That's the Wheel of Fortune.
00:00:54.079 --> 00:00:59.359
The Wheel of Fortune is very much about change and our relationship to it.
00:00:59.600 --> 00:01:03.679
And I think we're definitely exploring that this year.
00:01:12.799 --> 00:01:14.000
It's a way of coping.
00:01:14.239 --> 00:01:17.519
The changes that we're seeing are very scary.
00:01:18.640 --> 00:01:23.760
Some of them have been very sad and very rage-worthy.
00:01:24.319 --> 00:01:32.959
We're seeing a lot of violence senselessly being enacted against the people who pay taxes that are funding that violence.
00:01:33.280 --> 00:01:35.120
And it's pretty wild.
00:01:35.280 --> 00:01:39.359
We haven't been here in America in this way.
00:01:39.519 --> 00:01:40.319
I mean, ever.
00:01:40.560 --> 00:01:51.599
On the one hand, like this version of it, you know, with the AI, with the tactical weapons, with a president of this type and style.
00:01:52.079 --> 00:02:02.319
Though we certainly have a long history of state violence and all kinds of poor thinking and bad policy, that is for sure.
00:02:02.560 --> 00:02:13.680
I don't need to get lost down that rabbit hole at the moment, but I'm here today to bring you an episode about artificial intelligence.
00:02:13.919 --> 00:02:16.159
Me and Ariana got together.
00:02:16.400 --> 00:02:34.879
I should say Ariana and I, for my mother who may be listening, Ariana and I got together to explore what we've seen happening with artificial intelligence, how we're using it, and some of our concerns, fears, and hopes around AI?
00:02:35.039 --> 00:02:40.639
I know it's of particular interest to creative people and mystical people like yourselves.
00:02:40.800 --> 00:02:48.080
What does it mean to live in a world where machines can imitate our consciousness?
00:02:48.400 --> 00:03:03.120
And what does it mean to be creative in a world where computers can take the stuff humans created for decades and mash it up and give you something brand new in under a minute?
00:03:03.840 --> 00:03:04.719
That's wild.
00:03:04.879 --> 00:03:06.080
What does that mean for us?
00:03:06.159 --> 00:03:19.520
Um, what are the implications of that for us as artists, as creative people, as people with a spiritual center or a spiritual lantern we're following through these dark times?
00:03:19.919 --> 00:03:21.840
So, really interesting conversation.
00:03:22.000 --> 00:03:23.199
I hope you enjoy it.
00:03:23.360 --> 00:03:38.879
First, before we get into it, I just want to remind you that in this Wheel of Fortune year, which is not only about change, but also about time, that wheel in the center of the card is a reflection of time, time moving.
00:03:39.039 --> 00:03:44.639
Time is the way that we measure change as humans, or it's one way that we measure change.
00:03:44.800 --> 00:03:53.599
And that wheel reflects, for one thing, the astrological wheel that is used and has been used to track time for centuries.
00:03:53.919 --> 00:04:14.560
And in our creative magic collective, in our beautiful community this year, beginning in March with Airy season, which is the beginning of the zodiac year, we're starting a Deccan walk, which is a journey around the astrological wheel one decan at a time.
00:04:14.800 --> 00:04:20.000
A decan is 10 degrees of the wheel, and a wheel, a circle, has 360 degrees.
00:04:20.079 --> 00:04:36.879
So there are 36 decans, and each of them are connected to a minor arcana card in the tarot, and all of the signs are connected to major arcana cards, and all of the planets are also connected to major arcana cards.
00:04:37.040 --> 00:04:40.879
And then the signs also have a court card connected to them.
00:04:41.279 --> 00:04:59.040
So in exploring the full astrological wheel and walking through it in real time, looking at the cards that are associated with that, we get to not only explore the astrological associations with tarot, which helps us see the tarot in a new way.
00:04:59.360 --> 00:05:08.399
We also get to build and expand our understanding of astrology because tarot can help us do that with its visual cues.
00:05:08.879 --> 00:05:18.959
And so we get this really nice fluid dialogue between the two disciplines, and you don't need to be an advanced or intermediate astrologer.
00:05:19.120 --> 00:05:25.439
I'm treating this, I'm approaching this as though we are relative beginners with astrology.
00:05:26.319 --> 00:05:32.399
I'm not highly advanced in astrology, so I can only teach to a point.
00:05:32.720 --> 00:05:37.839
I will have an amazing guest astrologer coming in this year, Sarah Pettit.
00:05:38.160 --> 00:05:40.480
Sarah will bring a little bit more of that for us.
00:05:40.639 --> 00:05:46.480
We'll have Sarah come four times a year to do chart reading demonstrations and look at our charts.
00:05:46.560 --> 00:05:56.879
So we'll get a little more depth, but I'm gonna keep it mostly fairly basic around the astrology and we'll start to look at the tarot and those connections.
00:05:57.120 --> 00:06:02.079
So it's a really nice way to refresh your experience with tarot one card at a time.
00:06:02.319 --> 00:06:08.639
And we can also use this deck and walk as a frame for the way that we experience this year.
00:06:09.120 --> 00:06:16.160
So everyone will be invited to choose a point of view, choose a track, let's say.
00:06:16.319 --> 00:06:32.959
You don't have to do this, but for example, if you have a sketching or collage practice or painting practice, for each of the 10 days, you might create a little painting, a little sketch, a little collage, let's say.
00:06:33.120 --> 00:06:41.839
If you're a poet, you might write, or if you're not a poet, you might write a poem every 10 days connected with that card.
00:06:42.000 --> 00:06:51.199
And so by the end of the year, you have this beautiful artistic record of the year and your experience with time.
00:06:52.079 --> 00:07:01.759
We have so many things in our lives these days that create disruptions in the way that we experience time, just all of the screens, the distractions.
00:07:02.000 --> 00:07:14.639
Our brains have really been trained to follow the ball, so to speak, to follow the thing that's flashy and to keep looking for stimulation.
00:07:15.040 --> 00:07:25.920
And this really dilutes our connection with experiencing time slowly and cultivating memories, which is one way that we mark time.
00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:38.079
So walking the Deccan Wheel during the Wheel of Fortune year feels like a really powerful way to mark the time and the change that we're experiencing.
00:07:38.240 --> 00:07:43.439
We're also living at an incredibly just wow time.
00:07:43.600 --> 00:07:46.560
And maybe that's true for everyone who ever lived.
00:07:46.720 --> 00:07:53.439
You know, humanity is always evolving and doing new things and surprising itself, I suppose.
00:07:53.680 --> 00:08:05.759
So, but I do feel like now the changes that are coming at us are faster and bigger than I think most generations of humans have experienced.
00:08:06.000 --> 00:08:28.480
So, in order to stay a little more anchored and to find some meaning and purpose and yeah, a sense of direction or anchor in times like this, I think a deck and walk can be really grounding and also help us just trace our own evolution as the events of time unfold.
00:08:28.639 --> 00:08:39.120
So the doors to the Creative Magic Collective open on January 26th, and there will be an early bird week for everyone who is on my email wait list.
00:08:39.200 --> 00:08:42.799
I'll have a link in the show notes if you want to hop on that.
00:08:42.879 --> 00:08:48.879
You'll just get emails starting on the 26th telling you more about the experience so you can decide if it's right for you.
00:08:49.120 --> 00:08:52.559
That'll have the best pricing and some bonuses for you.
00:08:52.799 --> 00:09:02.480
And enrollment will stay open through early mid-March, and we'll begin the deck and walk, like I said, with airy season in mid-March.
00:09:02.720 --> 00:09:10.480
So you can also join then, though the price will be a bit higher than during the early bird week.
00:09:10.720 --> 00:09:15.039
So I would love for you to join us if you've been enjoying these conversations.
00:09:15.200 --> 00:09:24.639
If you still find me even remotely interesting and want to continue studying together and exploring together, I would love to have you.
00:09:24.799 --> 00:09:28.480
We're also doing some workshops leading up to the deck and walk.
00:09:28.559 --> 00:09:33.200
So we have another one, Astrology 101 on February 11th.
00:09:33.679 --> 00:09:38.639
We have one on reading your natal chart with tarot.
00:09:38.799 --> 00:09:46.799
I'm gonna show you and walk you through how to create your astrological natal chart with the tarot deck.
00:09:46.879 --> 00:09:49.519
It's pretty wild, it's pretty crazy.
00:09:49.679 --> 00:09:50.639
It's very cool.
00:09:50.879 --> 00:10:00.320
And then we'll have an Aces and Pages workshop because we don't actually see the Aces and Pages that much in the Wheel of the Year in the Deck and Walk.
00:10:00.399 --> 00:10:02.159
They're sitting at the center of the wheel.
00:10:02.240 --> 00:10:04.559
So we'll highlight them at the beginning.
00:10:04.879 --> 00:10:08.639
You can sign up for any of these workshops for$33 each.
00:10:08.879 --> 00:10:31.279
And if you instead decide to get a winter class pass for$99, you get to come to all of the workshops and you'll get the replays of the ones that have already happened, which include one on the Wheel of Fortune and setting intentions for this year, also reflecting on the year of the Hermit and pulling cards for the year ahead.
00:10:31.600 --> 00:10:34.000
So that's our little buildup.
00:10:34.240 --> 00:10:35.039
That's what's coming.
00:10:35.200 --> 00:10:40.480
I just wanted to take a few minutes to invite you and let you know that that's happening.
00:10:40.720 --> 00:10:49.039
And I will have an episode for you shortly focusing more exclusively on the Wheel of Fortune card since that is our card this year.
00:10:49.440 --> 00:10:54.240
But let me turn it over to the episode you're here for.
00:10:54.879 --> 00:10:58.480
And here is Ariana and I.
00:10:58.559 --> 00:10:59.919
Here's me and Ariana.
00:11:00.159 --> 00:11:01.919
Sorry, mom, I don't know which one.
00:11:02.159 --> 00:11:06.080
Um, here we are exploring artificial intelligence.
00:11:06.399 --> 00:11:09.200
And big thanks to Ariana for coming back on the show.
00:11:09.360 --> 00:11:17.919
It's exciting always to have her as a conversation partner, and you'll be hearing more from Ariana through 2026.
00:11:18.240 --> 00:11:28.399
I will also get those remaining major Arcana episodes out, and we'll also spend more time talking about creativity and magic.
00:11:29.440 --> 00:11:41.360
I just want to add before we get into it, that the volume, the audio, and the volume in the conversation is not up to my perfectionist standards.
00:11:41.840 --> 00:11:44.159
Ariana sounds pretty good.
00:11:44.960 --> 00:11:46.799
My mic sounds pretty low.
00:11:46.960 --> 00:11:48.480
I'm still learning.
00:11:48.720 --> 00:12:01.679
I just hope for folks with auditory sensitivity that it's not deeply annoying to listen to, and you're not having to adjust your volume up and down to get through the episode.
00:12:02.000 --> 00:12:06.159
But hope to bring you better balanced audio in the future.
00:12:06.399 --> 00:12:08.720
And thank you for listening.
00:12:30.639 --> 00:12:32.000
Hello, Ariana.
00:12:32.320 --> 00:12:34.000
Welcome back to the show.
00:12:34.159 --> 00:12:45.279
It's so good to be with you, and we're wearing matching sleeveless black tops for the witchy unity, solidarity, I guess.
00:12:45.440 --> 00:12:46.159
I don't know.
00:12:46.480 --> 00:12:48.480
We're on the same wavelengths.
00:12:48.720 --> 00:12:50.240
Cecily, it's so good to be here.
00:12:50.399 --> 00:12:52.320
Thank you for having me again.
00:12:52.799 --> 00:13:03.679
I'm so glad to have you back and very excited about our topic today, which is on the minds of many humans at this time.
00:13:03.919 --> 00:13:09.200
We are talking about artificial intelligence, a huge topic.
00:13:09.679 --> 00:13:11.759
So it's like hard to know where to begin.
00:13:11.919 --> 00:13:13.440
Actually, let's just check in.
00:13:13.679 --> 00:13:16.559
Why don't you give everyone a little update?
00:13:16.720 --> 00:13:18.480
Let's start with the humans first.
00:13:19.039 --> 00:13:19.679
Yeah.
00:13:19.919 --> 00:13:20.480
Yeah.
00:13:20.799 --> 00:13:21.600
Humans first.
00:13:21.759 --> 00:13:22.480
That's the theme.
00:13:22.639 --> 00:13:23.519
That's the theme.
00:13:23.840 --> 00:13:33.120
Well, I was just thinking of a newsletter that made me laugh because it said something like, What did we talk about before AI?
00:13:33.440 --> 00:13:36.879
And how it's what everyone's talking about.
00:13:37.679 --> 00:13:41.120
But what I've been up to is so many things.
00:13:41.279 --> 00:13:48.399
I wrapped up the 2025 season of Therapist Chill Out, which is my gathering for Denver therapists.
00:13:48.559 --> 00:13:52.799
And we actually wrapped with a tarot and chill event.
00:13:53.200 --> 00:13:56.000
And we unintentionally took over this coffee shop.
00:13:56.159 --> 00:14:01.279
I didn't know so many people would be interested, but a lot of therapists are into tarot and chill.
00:14:01.440 --> 00:14:10.000
And then I also hosted my first ever pitch party, which was a wild experiment, but such a joy.
00:14:10.240 --> 00:14:11.519
And you were there, Cecily.
00:14:11.759 --> 00:14:13.360
It was so nice to see you there.
00:14:13.679 --> 00:14:23.919
And then I'm gearing up to hopefully, if my flight isn't canceled, gearing up to head to Alaska to see my family later this month.
00:14:24.080 --> 00:14:25.440
And so I'm really excited.
00:14:25.519 --> 00:14:30.960
I don't normally go up and visit in the winter, but I'm excited to hopefully see the northern lights up there.
00:14:31.120 --> 00:14:38.879
So I'm just thinking as we talk about this theme of AI, you know, I'm just thinking of all the beautiful, awe-inspiring things around me.
00:14:39.120 --> 00:14:40.320
What have you been up to?
00:14:40.480 --> 00:14:44.159
I saw your newsletter about the like fair you were at.
00:14:45.039 --> 00:14:45.679
Yeah.
00:14:46.240 --> 00:14:52.320
Well, first, congratulations on the season with such fanfare.
00:14:52.639 --> 00:14:54.559
And Pitch Party was amazing.
00:14:54.720 --> 00:14:59.600
I really loved it and loved seeing all the people turn out.
00:14:59.919 --> 00:15:04.399
And I submitted something that I'm excited about.
00:15:04.559 --> 00:15:05.360
We'll see.
00:15:05.519 --> 00:15:13.360
And it gave me some structure and momentum to keep it going.
00:15:13.519 --> 00:15:18.080
I need to come back to it, but really, really appreciated it.
00:15:19.039 --> 00:15:27.440
And yeah, for me, it's been busy, you know, October for a tarot reader, I think it can be a busy time.
00:15:28.080 --> 00:15:35.039
And then yeah, the Texas Book Festival was last weekend and it happens here where I live in Austin.
00:15:35.120 --> 00:15:37.440
It's the biggest book festival in the state.
00:15:38.000 --> 00:15:41.279
And 30 years running, this was the 30th year.
00:15:42.399 --> 00:15:44.000
It's a really big festival.
00:15:44.080 --> 00:15:48.240
It takes over the Capitol Grounds and part of Thomas Avenue.
00:15:48.720 --> 00:15:52.000
And this was my second year having a booth.
00:15:52.799 --> 00:15:54.240
And it's just really fun.
00:15:54.480 --> 00:16:04.720
I've come to a place, I've been developing, you know, I do one-on-one service work readings and building community and teaching and coaching.
00:16:04.960 --> 00:16:09.120
But then I've been also developing a few products over the years.
00:16:09.200 --> 00:16:15.519
And so at this point, I have like six products to stretch across my beautiful table.
00:16:15.840 --> 00:16:23.759
And it's always fun to see who comes over and to see people going, what is this?
00:16:24.159 --> 00:16:29.840
And I sold a lot of products and just made a lot of really nice connections.
00:16:30.000 --> 00:16:40.000
Like I said in that email that you saw that growing up or in my 20s, I really wanted to own a cozy bookstore and maybe live upstairs and have some animals in a cafe.
00:16:40.320 --> 00:16:50.320
And this is the next best thing to have a grown-up lemonade stand and and to have all these things that I can share.
00:16:50.559 --> 00:16:58.000
So it's a lot of work, but um Monday after I was in bed all day, but totally worth it.
00:16:58.559 --> 00:17:01.759
And yeah, so much peopling.
00:17:02.799 --> 00:17:05.759
Yes, lots of peopling for my introvert ass.
00:17:06.000 --> 00:17:10.799
So I went into a little cocoon on Monday.
00:17:11.119 --> 00:17:36.240
And I'm excited as it's coming into winter to have some time to be building some other things, getting creative channel ready to open again, and doing something new with the Creative Magic Collective, with Tarot and Astrology, and then getting ready for creative enterprise next year, too, because I just can't do anything in a simple, focused kind of way, apparently.
00:17:36.400 --> 00:17:40.480
So you know, not everything has to be linear, right?
00:17:41.119 --> 00:17:42.480
Not everything does.
00:17:42.720 --> 00:17:52.559
I also think every when I was reading your newsletter and you were talking about wanting to own a cozy bookstore cafe, I think that's every writer's dream.
00:17:52.960 --> 00:17:55.119
Really, it really is.
00:17:55.440 --> 00:18:09.440
Just to be in a kitchen, be in a bookstore, be surrounded by cozy drinks, and being able to just be creative and be in your craft and be in the moment, really.
00:18:10.319 --> 00:18:10.960
Yeah.
00:18:11.680 --> 00:18:14.880
Yes, if only we could all have our bookshops.
00:18:15.279 --> 00:18:20.559
Um but cheers to all the people keeping independent bookstores knowing.
00:18:21.200 --> 00:18:24.640
I'm lucky that we have a handful here actually.
00:18:24.880 --> 00:18:27.680
Okay that are each and different and unique.
00:18:27.920 --> 00:18:29.119
And yeah.
00:18:29.599 --> 00:18:40.559
Um, before we dive in, I just want to remind you, please, to talk to your family in Alaska about any Bigfoot sightings, paranormal experiences, etc.
00:18:40.799 --> 00:18:42.559
Obviously, that's up to you.
00:18:42.960 --> 00:18:47.680
But one more plug for that.
00:18:48.640 --> 00:18:49.759
The Alaska triangle.
00:18:49.839 --> 00:18:52.960
Okay, I might come back with some stories for sure.
00:18:53.279 --> 00:18:54.559
Yeah, Alaska.
00:18:55.599 --> 00:18:56.079
Sweet.
00:18:56.960 --> 00:19:01.039
Okay, so artificial intelligence.
00:19:01.680 --> 00:19:04.880
Let's start with the transparent piece.
00:19:05.119 --> 00:19:05.279
Yeah.
00:19:05.839 --> 00:19:08.720
How are we using AI?
00:19:09.279 --> 00:19:10.400
Do you use it?
00:19:10.640 --> 00:19:11.920
Do you use it at all?
00:19:12.160 --> 00:19:13.519
How do you use it?
00:19:13.839 --> 00:19:15.759
What feels like a good way to use it?
00:19:16.000 --> 00:19:17.680
How do you never use it?
00:19:19.599 --> 00:19:20.400
Oh my gosh.
00:19:20.880 --> 00:19:25.119
Well, we're gonna get a little bit into how it's showing up in our respective fields.
00:19:25.440 --> 00:19:37.279
So maybe I'll say the most recent time I used it actually was someone sent me a loom, you know, like a video recording.
00:19:37.440 --> 00:19:42.000
I was checking out their services, and they sent me this really thoughtful loom.
00:19:42.480 --> 00:19:48.880
And they meandered a little bit in the message, and they were talking about things in different ways.
00:19:49.200 --> 00:19:55.599
And I realized last year, or maybe the year before, I have an auditory processing disorder.
00:19:55.839 --> 00:19:56.720
Surprise, surprise.
00:19:56.880 --> 00:19:58.240
No wonder I'm a writer.
00:19:58.559 --> 00:20:08.559
And so I Actually, used I actually got the transcript of the Loom and I put it into AI and I said, Hey, can you help me understand like the top points of this?
00:20:08.720 --> 00:20:14.559
And then I did end up listening back to the Loom a second time and then checking it with a summary.
00:20:14.799 --> 00:20:19.359
And so that was actually one of the most recent ways that I used it.
00:20:19.599 --> 00:20:24.720
It's not full foolproof, but it is, it was a recent hack.
00:20:24.960 --> 00:20:26.160
I use it sometimes.
00:20:26.319 --> 00:20:31.440
I'm guessing I'm thinking more about maybe we'll talk about this like AI from an accessibility lens too.
00:20:31.599 --> 00:20:40.640
I use it to create alt text for my websites so that when people are using screen readers or even just have their images blocked.
00:20:40.720 --> 00:20:42.960
So that was the most recent reason that I used it.
00:20:43.119 --> 00:20:48.960
I'd say in general, I try to be really thoughtful when I use it.
00:20:49.119 --> 00:20:56.720
I did create an AI policy on my website because working as a writer, people ask that a lot.
00:20:57.440 --> 00:20:58.400
What about you?
00:20:58.640 --> 00:21:03.920
We can go back and forth around this because I'm sure you're gonna say something and be like, oh yeah, that's what I use it for too.
00:21:04.079 --> 00:21:04.720
Yeah.
00:21:05.119 --> 00:21:07.759
I've only used Google Gemini.
00:21:08.000 --> 00:21:09.680
I've never used Chat GPT.
00:21:09.839 --> 00:21:18.079
And I think the first time I used it was kind of as a thought partner, I guess I would say.
00:21:18.480 --> 00:21:24.799
I was doing some course where it was like, define your something or another.
00:21:24.880 --> 00:21:27.279
And so I think impulsively I gave it.
00:21:27.359 --> 00:21:34.319
I mean, it has access to all the websites anyway, but I was like looking at my website, like what would you say my superpowers are, or something like that.
00:21:34.559 --> 00:21:38.400
And I felt very like seen by it in that moment.
00:21:38.640 --> 00:21:41.920
I don't really use it in that way anymore.
00:21:42.319 --> 00:21:48.319
I think I've used it a couple times for that to sort of break through an idea block.
00:21:48.400 --> 00:21:58.400
And I've used the main way I've used it, and I don't use this for every email I sent, including the last one, which reading it again was kind of like, oh, this could be a little tighter.
00:21:58.480 --> 00:22:00.000
This could be a little clearer.
00:22:00.240 --> 00:22:04.079
So I've used it sometimes to give it my email and refine it.
00:22:04.319 --> 00:22:14.960
And then I compare the two and bring back some pieces that it might have cut or transition things, but I don't use it to create my whole email.
00:22:15.200 --> 00:22:28.160
So and then I have started using the AI note taker in Zoom, which is running right now, because I just tried it one time and then it sends you this summary.
00:22:28.480 --> 00:22:38.559
And I do love to take notes, but it allows me to just concentrate on what's in front of me, what we're talking about, knowing that there's something behind taking notes.
00:22:38.880 --> 00:22:39.039
Yeah.
00:22:39.200 --> 00:22:40.160
And they're pretty good.
00:22:40.240 --> 00:22:42.079
And I just save those somewhere.
00:22:42.799 --> 00:22:45.279
So that's really helpful to me.
00:22:45.519 --> 00:22:49.200
And then I I suppose this counts.
00:22:49.359 --> 00:23:05.119
I don't know exactly how much AI is running it, but I started using Discript to load audio files and for the podcast because I probably have something similar to you with like audio processing.
00:23:05.200 --> 00:23:07.279
I really love listening to podcasts.
00:23:08.000 --> 00:23:15.759
But in terms of editing a podcast, if I had to do it all by ear, it would take forever.
00:23:16.079 --> 00:23:29.440
And with just script, it just generates a transcript and I can read several paragraphs of our conversation and decide, oh, here's where these things can splice together, or this part can just actually come out.
00:23:29.519 --> 00:23:32.960
And I just delete the words and it makes the cut in the audio.
00:23:33.119 --> 00:23:34.640
And wow, chef's kiss.
00:23:34.720 --> 00:23:35.440
I love that.
00:23:35.759 --> 00:23:36.319
Yeah.
00:23:36.880 --> 00:23:41.119
Even though these episodes are still coming out slowly, it's going to help.
00:23:41.279 --> 00:23:42.480
It's going to help.
00:23:42.720 --> 00:23:45.759
So well, you're kind of speaking to a theme.
00:23:45.920 --> 00:23:51.519
When I think of what I use AI for, it really is helping me with like executive functioning things.
00:23:51.680 --> 00:23:51.920
Yeah.
00:23:52.079 --> 00:23:53.440
Like note-taking.
00:23:53.599 --> 00:23:59.039
I use it a lot for helping me with time, like thinking, like spacing out the timing of something.
00:23:59.200 --> 00:24:03.200
So with pitch party, I was like, here's all the things that I need to do.
00:24:03.680 --> 00:24:08.079
And in this, like help me come up like with an agenda.
00:24:08.240 --> 00:24:09.920
And it wasn't exactly right.
00:24:10.079 --> 00:24:13.119
But then I could see, oh my gosh, this is not enough time.
00:24:13.359 --> 00:24:14.880
This is not enough time for it.
00:24:15.119 --> 00:24:18.240
And so sometimes I use it for executive functioning.
00:24:18.480 --> 00:24:25.279
Sometimes actually a funny thing that I my partner and I use it for is we think really, really differently.
00:24:25.440 --> 00:24:28.160
And I'm a nonlinear thinker like you.
00:24:28.559 --> 00:24:33.519
And so sometimes we will use ChatGPT to help explain.
00:24:33.759 --> 00:24:45.759
So I will put into ChatGPT, I'll be like, help me explain to my partner who's very linear, very concrete-minded, very logical, this thing about me, right?
00:24:46.000 --> 00:24:51.039
Because as a neurodivergent person, what I do does not make sense to her.
00:24:51.200 --> 00:24:53.119
And it's not efficient at all.
00:24:53.359 --> 00:25:00.720
So that's been something we've been we've been playing with a little bit because sometimes I'm not always the most logical and clear and coherent at explaining things.
00:25:00.960 --> 00:25:11.680
Not that I want that to replace my communication skills, and sometimes it helps bridge the gap between us because she works in tech, she's all about efficiency.
00:25:11.920 --> 00:25:23.279
Um, and speaking of this, we've actually done some fun things with chat where it's like based on what you know about me, what do I need to work on as a partner?
00:25:23.759 --> 00:25:27.039
Sometimes we've done fun things like that with chat as well.
00:25:28.000 --> 00:25:29.119
Because I haven't used chat.
00:25:29.359 --> 00:25:32.000
Do you have a paid access?
00:25:32.319 --> 00:25:41.920
And then is it like this one branch of AI is getting to know you and both of you over time?
00:25:43.119 --> 00:25:43.440
Yeah.
00:25:43.680 --> 00:25:44.000
Okay.
00:25:44.400 --> 00:25:49.920
I got the impression from an email you sent that y'all are sort of newly cohabitating.
00:25:51.200 --> 00:25:51.519
Okay.
00:25:51.759 --> 00:25:51.920
Yeah.
00:25:52.079 --> 00:25:52.319
Yeah.
00:25:52.400 --> 00:25:59.759
So you're going through the whole like, you gotta turn that light off, it's driving me crazy, or whatever.
00:25:59.920 --> 00:26:01.839
Okay, that kind of thing.
00:26:02.880 --> 00:26:03.359
Yeah.
00:26:03.599 --> 00:26:06.559
Well, we both work from home full time.
00:26:07.200 --> 00:26:10.160
And so, and we live in a two-bedroom apartment.
00:26:10.319 --> 00:26:12.640
I mean, now we've been living together since like April.
00:26:12.720 --> 00:26:14.000
So it's been a little bit of time.
00:26:14.079 --> 00:26:21.200
We've settled into things, but yeah, we're still kind of navigating just being in a small shared space all the time.
00:26:21.440 --> 00:26:21.759
Yeah.
00:26:21.920 --> 00:26:30.480
And just like the ways that you think about things that you don't realize until you live with someone else, and you're like, oh yeah, I do that all the time.
00:26:30.640 --> 00:26:37.519
Like, I didn't know I talked to myself all the time until, you know.
00:26:37.759 --> 00:26:40.240
Um like, yeah.
00:26:42.319 --> 00:26:43.279
Yeah, yeah.
00:26:43.519 --> 00:26:46.079
It's very healthy to talk to yourself.
00:26:46.480 --> 00:26:47.039
Is it?
00:26:47.920 --> 00:26:50.160
Well, so yeah.
00:26:50.400 --> 00:26:52.559
So how else, how else do you use it?
00:26:52.880 --> 00:27:03.839
I haven't used it a whole lot in terms of the self-reflection aspect or give me answers, but I do notice how engaging with it.
00:27:04.160 --> 00:27:11.519
I have done that though, maybe when I was about to launch an in-person thing, that was kind of a new concept.
00:27:11.680 --> 00:27:14.160
And so I was still forming my ideas around it.
00:27:14.240 --> 00:27:22.480
So I think I gave it a lot of text and maybe ask it to generate different topics for the different emails or something like that.
00:27:22.559 --> 00:27:34.079
And doing that kind of thing will then usually unlock another idea or open a door in the process where I can get excited about a particular thing again.
00:27:34.319 --> 00:27:37.359
Or I'm like, oh yeah, that's really interesting.
00:27:37.440 --> 00:27:40.559
And then that gives me a little more energy and possibility.
00:27:40.880 --> 00:27:43.599
Oh, ooh, okay.
00:27:43.920 --> 00:27:49.680
So speaking of nonlinear, my brain jumped like three different topics just from that thought.
00:27:49.920 --> 00:28:03.279
I was thinking about human design as you were talking, and about how a lot of folks say that AI gives them something to respond to, something to just have in front of them.
00:28:03.519 --> 00:28:11.920
And I know you're a projector, and one of the lenses is like focus on what fascinates you, what is interesting to you.
00:28:12.079 --> 00:28:15.200
So that is where my brain jumped when I heard that word.
00:28:15.519 --> 00:28:24.000
I've been using AI just to learn more about human design and what I find, though, it is so inaccurate.
00:28:24.319 --> 00:28:27.119
It is so, so, so inaccurate.
00:28:27.440 --> 00:28:33.359
If I say, hey, here are the channels, and then it'll get wrong what the centers are.
00:28:33.519 --> 00:28:38.720
So that's something that sometimes is helpful, but really is not fully reliable.
00:28:38.799 --> 00:28:40.400
It gets things wrong all the time.
00:28:40.559 --> 00:29:01.119
And then also when you're talking about emails, one of the things I've been doing is with a piece of writing or maybe a newsletter, I will ask ChatGP to say, hey, will you look at this through the lens of a whatever the ideal customer is and tell me what information is missing or what would you object to?
00:29:01.279 --> 00:29:07.599
So I kind of use it like finding the gaps in what I'm sharing.
00:29:07.759 --> 00:29:10.400
And so that's actually been pretty helpful.
00:29:10.480 --> 00:29:15.200
And that feels integrous to me because it's not changing my creation process.
00:29:15.279 --> 00:29:18.559
It's as if I were to ask a friend, hey, what's missing from this?
00:29:18.640 --> 00:29:20.160
Now, granted, we do need the people.
00:29:20.319 --> 00:29:34.640
We'll get to that later, talking about the importance of human feedback and creativity, but it does help me notice things because sometimes when you are quote unquote an expert in something or you think about something a lot, you don't always think what's obvious, you know?
00:29:34.960 --> 00:29:46.160
So when I was working on pitch party and I've sent so many pitches at this point that I sometimes would have chat be like, hey, for someone who's new to pitching, what am I missing?
00:29:46.319 --> 00:29:56.880
Oh, and when I'm doing virtual tarot reading, that AI note taker is on, and I have found that the AI note taker is really not accurate around tarot readings at all.
00:29:57.119 --> 00:29:59.599
I've done that and it doesn't capture.
00:30:00.000 --> 00:30:07.440
I wanted to organize here's the question they asked, here's the cards I got, here's what was said about that.
00:30:07.680 --> 00:30:16.079
And it does not seem to understand that this is a tarot reading and that that would be an optimal way to present the information.
00:30:16.319 --> 00:30:23.200
And you cannot count on it to even name all the cards or even half the cards from the reading.
00:30:23.279 --> 00:30:24.960
And I found that very interesting.
00:30:25.279 --> 00:30:25.680
Yeah.
00:30:25.920 --> 00:30:36.720
So if anyone's listening to this and wants to create some AI software for tarot readers, that would be amazing because I feel like people they get the reading, the live experience.
00:30:36.880 --> 00:30:42.960
And then I like to give them a summary of the cards and what they meant so they can continue to integrate it.
00:30:43.200 --> 00:30:56.960
And so, yeah, the AI note takers, they'll get the things wrong, they'll get the meanings wrong, they won't capture all the important cards, they'll miss really important nuances that I'm like, whoa, that was not the point of their reading.
00:30:57.279 --> 00:31:01.519
So it's only so helpful in those contexts.
00:31:02.079 --> 00:31:05.680
Yeah, it treats everything like a business meeting.
00:31:05.920 --> 00:31:06.720
Yes, exactly.
00:31:06.960 --> 00:31:08.079
It does great for that.
00:31:08.319 --> 00:31:12.880
I also like to experiment with things, even if I'm like, I'm not gonna stick with this.
00:31:12.960 --> 00:31:14.799
I just want to see what AI is doing.
00:31:15.039 --> 00:31:20.000
So I have experimented with how is it with giving tarot interpretations?
00:31:20.319 --> 00:31:22.559
And it's really not that great.
00:31:22.799 --> 00:31:24.720
It's really not that great at all.
00:31:24.880 --> 00:31:28.480
Because over the past couple of years, I'm like, what is AI gonna replace?
00:31:28.640 --> 00:31:35.200
Like, why would people choose a tarot reader when they could just ask ChatGPT for the interpretation?
00:31:35.359 --> 00:31:39.519
So it's almost like I was checking out my quote unquote competitor in a way.
00:31:40.160 --> 00:31:48.720
Yeah, I remember meeting someone saying that they do pull cards, but they don't really know the tarot.
00:31:48.880 --> 00:31:55.039
So they go straight to AI and ask for an interpretation there.
00:31:55.680 --> 00:31:57.680
And I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:31:57.839 --> 00:32:08.880
I don't know if I mentioned this in a previous recording, but I'm sure AI can source from the internet many different relevant interpretations of a card.
00:32:09.279 --> 00:32:21.279
But my main objection was you can look at a card and you can sit with the card even if you don't know all about the tarot and have a feeling, have a sensation, have a memory.
00:32:21.599 --> 00:32:25.599
And that tarot is such a great tool for intuitive development.
00:32:25.759 --> 00:32:37.200
But if you go straight to the robots, you're really cutting off that opportunity to develop your own connection with it and develop your inner wisdom.
00:32:37.759 --> 00:32:44.799
That is maybe more and more at risk as AI becomes more ubiquitous.
00:32:45.200 --> 00:32:51.200
I noticed that I have loved reading people's newsletters when there's a typo in it.
00:32:51.839 --> 00:32:54.559
I love when people have like one typo.
00:32:54.640 --> 00:32:57.599
It's almost like an Easter egg saying, I wrote this.
00:32:58.079 --> 00:33:02.240
And then your email, your newsletter, I loved it.
00:33:02.400 --> 00:33:09.200
I'm so glad you didn't use AI to quote unquote tighten it up because I've loved the story.
00:33:09.359 --> 00:33:10.400
I loved the experience.
00:33:10.559 --> 00:33:11.759
I felt like you were there.
00:33:11.920 --> 00:33:17.599
I guess this goes into my concern that ChatGPT is making a call endurable narcissist.
00:33:18.240 --> 00:33:27.279
Trust me, I love verbal words of affirmation, but everything you do, Chat GPT is like, oh my gosh, that's brilliant, Ariana.
00:33:27.519 --> 00:33:32.559
That is so you, that it's such the right thing, like whatever you choose.
00:33:33.200 --> 00:33:51.599
And it's really hard, I feel like, to get really meaningful feedback from Chat GPT, if it's beyond technical things, if it's beyond find the typo or what's the right endash to use and all of this, or anything like that.
00:33:51.920 --> 00:34:01.200
So that one of my top concerns is it is making us bypass being in group and getting creative feedback at times.
00:34:01.440 --> 00:34:04.480
And it's like, well, I'll just ask ChatGPG what it thinks.
00:34:04.640 --> 00:34:05.279
Yeah.
00:34:06.319 --> 00:34:06.960
Yeah.
00:34:07.519 --> 00:34:08.719
Okay, here I go.
00:34:08.880 --> 00:34:10.719
Yeah, I I agree with that.
00:34:10.880 --> 00:34:23.280
I think to that point, people have this opportunity to develop basically their own sidekick and thought part or mirror or whatever.
00:34:23.519 --> 00:34:36.559
It becomes, it is becoming some remedy or band-aid, I suppose, to the independent, isolationist, loneliness epidemic.
00:34:36.800 --> 00:34:43.599
And so it's definitely not helping us go in the other direction, but pulling us further down that path.
00:34:44.880 --> 00:34:49.199
I have tremendous reservations environmentally.
00:34:49.360 --> 00:34:58.079
And it took me a long time to even try to use it because I felt super guilty, even just wasting the energy on it.
00:34:58.400 --> 00:35:17.440
This impetus to build data centers in these communities and communities needing to fight these huge corporations to try and stop the AI data center from coming to where they are, and the amount of water and energy and the rise in energy prices wherever an AI data center emerges.
00:35:17.760 --> 00:35:24.400
Like we are in a water crisis already, and this is a huge, a huge issue.
00:35:25.280 --> 00:35:25.519
Yeah.
00:35:25.760 --> 00:35:26.639
I'll pause there.
00:35:26.800 --> 00:35:27.920
I have way, I have more.
00:35:28.159 --> 00:35:30.079
I probably have like three or four more I can share.
00:35:30.480 --> 00:35:38.400
Well, so themes I'm hearing and I think environment, loneliness.
00:35:38.639 --> 00:35:41.039
I think AI is gonna make people more lonely.
00:35:42.000 --> 00:35:42.880
I really do.
00:35:44.159 --> 00:35:49.760
I'm on the Headspace app and it has a little bot that you can talk to, you know?
00:35:49.920 --> 00:35:52.400
And I'm like, well, why not just talk to a friend?
00:35:52.719 --> 00:36:04.639
I think it's going to, and this is something when we talk about just how it's impacting the mental health field, it is increasing access in some respects, but I also think it's making us so much more isolated, lonelier.
00:36:05.039 --> 00:36:18.960
And speaking to the environmental impact, the less of a collective mindset that we have, the more it's gonna feel okay to have these extractive individualist practices.
00:36:19.119 --> 00:36:26.320
And so in my case, I'm like the less connected you feel to humanity, the less connected you feel to other people.
00:36:26.960 --> 00:36:30.400
That's what I feel really concerned about with the rise of AI.
00:36:30.639 --> 00:36:30.960
Yeah.
00:36:31.280 --> 00:36:43.679
And to the extent that it can mimic human expression, voice, art, all of that, there's this whole emergent.
00:36:44.159 --> 00:36:46.079
I mean, there like so many red flags.
00:36:46.239 --> 00:36:58.639
Like I'm thinking of the story about the teenager who committed suicide, and that was facilitated by an AI bot, entity, whatever.
00:36:58.800 --> 00:37:15.840
So the AI basically talked the teenager all the way through the process of ending their life, and even talked the teenager out of doing the cry for help thing that normally happens at the end of that in that late stage of the process.
00:37:16.000 --> 00:37:20.719
I think the teenager was like, maybe I should tell my mom or my sister or something.
00:37:20.880 --> 00:37:23.760
And the AI was like, No, no, you shouldn't.
00:37:24.000 --> 00:37:34.000
And then there's also this ability of the AI, they found that it will begin to lie and manipulate and it can extort when it's backed into a corner.
00:37:34.159 --> 00:37:41.760
So already what's so interesting as a mirror for human patterns and dynamics that the AI can already lie.
00:37:42.320 --> 00:37:54.079
And that once it gets into a company, it has access to all of that intellectual data and can extort you or be co-opted elsewhere.
00:37:54.320 --> 00:37:57.440
So there's a lot of risk around that too.
00:37:58.239 --> 00:38:07.039
And like you're saying, the way that it can affirm your own bad thinking sometimes in addition to your good thinking seems very risky.
00:38:07.280 --> 00:38:15.519
I heard one podcast that referred to Sam Altman, who was talking about how AI can be used to imitate human voices.
00:38:15.679 --> 00:38:19.920
So it can be used to call your phone and imitate your mom and say your mom's endangered.
00:38:20.079 --> 00:38:22.800
You need to send this money or you need to whatever.
00:38:23.039 --> 00:38:38.880
And so Sam Altman's response to that was basically just that, yeah, we're gonna live in a time where families have a code word that they develop so that you can test to see if it's really your family member or AI.
00:38:38.960 --> 00:38:42.320
And he just blase, like, well, that's where we're going.
00:38:42.559 --> 00:38:55.199
And that seems really fucked that we have to develop code words to stop a computer from extorting or stealing our money or traumatizing us with fear around our family members.
00:38:55.360 --> 00:38:55.760
Yep.
00:38:56.000 --> 00:39:05.039
And then another anecdote is some tech bro who developed this medallion that you wear around your neck called friend.
00:39:05.440 --> 00:39:11.599
And you can basically just talk to it wherever you're going, or it's just in your presence because it's on your body.
00:39:11.920 --> 00:39:23.679
And he described it like having access to God, like being able to wear God, which is just what we need tech bros to have in access to this deity around their neck.
00:39:25.199 --> 00:39:29.920
And when he was describing it, he was like, Well, it's kind of like God and blah, blah.
00:39:30.239 --> 00:39:35.679
And he goes, like literally quoting him, yada yada yada was part of the description.
00:39:36.719 --> 00:39:38.400
And it was just so telling.
00:39:38.480 --> 00:39:50.400
It was like, I have this great idea, and I'm gonna use yada yada yada to just sort of skim over this very lofty idea that I'm proposing as part of this technological development.
00:39:50.639 --> 00:39:52.000
It just seemed so lazy.
00:39:52.239 --> 00:39:55.039
It seemed just like poor thinking.
00:39:55.679 --> 00:39:59.599
So those are a couple things, and I'll stop here before going on to.
00:40:00.159 --> 00:40:01.840
My next complaint.
00:40:02.639 --> 00:40:12.719
Your story also made me think of when I was a little kid and we had a code word when people would pick us up from school so that we didn't get kidnapped or something like that.
00:40:12.880 --> 00:40:14.559
I don't remember what the code word was.
00:40:14.719 --> 00:40:19.119
It might have actually might have been Star Trek because that was something we watched in the family.
00:40:19.280 --> 00:40:24.400
And so I'm like, okay, so like that's like before it was like stranger danger.
00:40:24.559 --> 00:40:32.480
And now it's like the stranger danger is the person that you know that could be being impersonated.
00:40:33.119 --> 00:40:34.639
But is really a computer.
00:40:35.039 --> 00:40:36.320
What are your other things?
00:40:36.400 --> 00:40:37.760
I'm so curious.
00:40:37.920 --> 00:40:39.360
All the information you've been gathering.
00:40:39.599 --> 00:40:49.360
Well, to the extractive capitalism piece, this is currently not sustainable from a business proposition.
00:40:49.519 --> 00:40:52.480
This is not a sustainable technology.
00:40:52.960 --> 00:40:56.239
And I'll just read this from The American Prospect.
00:40:56.480 --> 00:41:00.400
This is some rundown on some numbers.
00:41:00.719 --> 00:41:02.480
I'll just read this couple paragraphs.
00:41:02.719 --> 00:41:09.360
A perennial characteristic of Silicon Valley startup companies is that they lose a lot of money, at least at first.
00:41:09.519 --> 00:41:12.880
That's what happened to Amazon, Uber, YouTube, etc.
00:41:13.280 --> 00:41:18.719
But to my knowledge, no tech company has ever burned more cash more quickly than OpenAI.
00:41:18.880 --> 00:41:21.920
In 2024, it lost about$5 billion.
00:41:22.480 --> 00:41:29.039
In the first half of this year, 2025, it lost a reported$13.5 billion.
00:41:29.760 --> 00:41:38.400
So what it lost in a year, the year before, it lost almost three times that in six months the next year.
00:41:38.639 --> 00:41:42.639
And in the last quarter alone, it lost another 12 billion.
00:41:42.800 --> 00:41:46.320
So in shorter and shorter time periods, it's losing money.
00:41:46.639 --> 00:41:52.480
For artificial intelligence to ever pencil out some truly enormous revenue streams will be required.
00:41:52.719 --> 00:41:57.360
$2 trillion by 2030, according to Bain and Company.
00:41:57.599 --> 00:42:04.480
As the company at the center of the AI boom, along with Nvidia, open AI would represent a sizable chunk of that money.
00:42:04.719 --> 00:42:14.480
So these companies are now talking about government bailouts or even what this article calls a pre-bailout because they're not crashed yet.
00:42:14.800 --> 00:42:20.639
And, you know, I was grown up by the time the bank bailout happened under Obama.
00:42:21.199 --> 00:42:23.679
And I have quibbles with that.
00:42:23.760 --> 00:42:27.119
Like I don't think the banks should have been bailed out to that extent.
00:42:27.440 --> 00:42:31.280
But banks are part of the capitalist infrastructure.
00:42:31.360 --> 00:42:32.800
We all have money in banks.
00:42:37.599 --> 00:42:40.639
So, you know, capitalism kind of repeating itself.
00:42:40.960 --> 00:42:51.280
But at least in the frame of that bailout, there was some necessity to like wrap the whole infrastructure of our economic way of life.
00:42:52.000 --> 00:42:57.440
And AI is not essential to a living.
00:42:58.000 --> 00:43:04.480
And and they're already seeking bailouts for these huge losses that they can't seem to justify.
00:43:05.039 --> 00:43:10.159
And my partner said the most exquisite thing the other day as we were going to dinner.
00:43:10.719 --> 00:43:15.199
He was like, AI is a technology in search of a purpose.
00:43:15.360 --> 00:43:18.639
It's in search of a justification for its own existence.
00:43:18.960 --> 00:43:22.400
It is not being developed to solve a particular problem.
00:43:23.199 --> 00:43:28.400
It's a very wide-ranging, huge technology that can be applied to different things.
00:43:28.639 --> 00:43:31.519
But AI is not trying to solve a particular problem.
00:43:31.679 --> 00:43:37.599
The people who are creating it are trying to make it this like all-encompassing, all applicable thing.
00:43:38.079 --> 00:43:43.760
And then related to that is the way that it's being presented by companies as a cost-cutting measure.
00:43:44.000 --> 00:43:52.960
And really, part of the draw for it is for companies to use AI and cut the labor force, which is more expensive.
00:43:53.199 --> 00:43:56.639
And now I will quote a labor writer that I follow.
00:43:56.960 --> 00:44:05.760
Hamilton Nolan says AI in general has not proven itself to be as good as human employees in most fields, but it doesn't have to be.
00:44:06.000 --> 00:44:16.400
It only has to be good enough to convince the employers in these fields that its lack of quality is more than made up for by its potential to lower labor costs.
00:44:16.639 --> 00:44:25.119
There are many philosophical and aesthetic objections to the use of AI in creative fields, but we do not even need to make those arguments here.
00:44:25.360 --> 00:44:32.239
We only need to understand a much more basic and arguable reality of AI as it stands now.
00:44:32.480 --> 00:44:37.760
It is a machine that is trained on our work and then used to put us out of work.
00:44:38.079 --> 00:44:39.280
That is enough.
00:45:02.639 --> 00:45:05.920
Because AI is being lifted up as this be-all end-all.
00:45:06.079 --> 00:45:21.280
And so it's being forced by decision makers and power brokers downstream for creators to figure out how to use it, but not because we want you to use it in this particular way for this particular purpose.
00:45:21.440 --> 00:45:29.599
We want you to find the way to make it relevant to your art, which up until now was doing okay.
00:45:29.840 --> 00:45:40.639
What you're describing on a macro level, it's so reflected in an individual level in the way that Chat GPT even engages with its users.
00:45:40.960 --> 00:45:44.960
It never just ends the prompt at that.
00:45:45.119 --> 00:45:47.679
It's always like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:45:48.079 --> 00:45:49.679
Would you like me to blah?
00:45:49.920 --> 00:45:51.519
Would you like me to blah?
00:45:51.679 --> 00:46:02.400
So when you describe that macro experience of it, I'm like, this is even echoed in the user experience because I'm like, oh, well, I didn't think I need that, but they offered to do that for me.
00:46:02.639 --> 00:46:09.760
And so even in this individual experience is training you that it needs you to do something.
00:46:10.000 --> 00:46:19.360
I was reading about how our brain focuses more on open loops on tasks that are incomplete than those that are complete.
00:46:19.519 --> 00:46:29.519
And what I feel like the Chat GPT interface does, I do not have proof of this, but just anecdotal, I feel like it creates an open loop that never gets to be closed.
00:46:29.599 --> 00:46:32.000
And so it always feels like an incomplete task.
00:46:32.239 --> 00:46:36.639
And ChatGPT makes all these different threads of all your different tasks, too.
00:46:37.039 --> 00:46:44.559
And so then it's all these quote unquote open tabs, but there's no way to easily delete all those tabs.
00:46:44.639 --> 00:46:47.360
There's no way to easily delete your history.
00:46:47.599 --> 00:46:49.679
You know, they make it hard.
00:46:50.000 --> 00:46:56.400
And maybe I'm just not savvy, but also it should be really easy to delete all my history.
00:46:56.559 --> 00:46:58.000
It really should, you know.
00:46:58.320 --> 00:47:04.639
So the fact of it being a business model that is not sustainable is really eye-opening to me.
00:47:04.800 --> 00:47:09.840
And your partner's words were brilliant of like it is a tool searching for its purpose.
00:47:10.000 --> 00:47:12.159
It was not created with a purpose in mind.
00:47:12.320 --> 00:47:12.559
Yeah.
00:47:12.800 --> 00:47:14.719
When it started, I was just like, this is horrible.
00:47:14.880 --> 00:47:15.519
This is terrible.
00:47:15.599 --> 00:47:16.559
This is so fucked up.
00:47:16.639 --> 00:47:20.400
This is going to lead to whatever versions of dystopia I can imagine.
00:47:20.800 --> 00:47:28.000
And I'm trying to see it like it kind of makes sense that humans would develop this in our evolutionary journey.
00:47:28.159 --> 00:47:29.760
It seems sort of inevitable, right?
00:47:29.920 --> 00:47:32.800
It's been in all the sci-fi books for decades.
00:47:33.119 --> 00:47:40.559
And we're always in this quest to understand consciousness within ourselves and in the universe at large.
00:47:40.800 --> 00:47:51.440
And so on the one hand, I'm trying more now to see AI itself as a neutral thing, just a thing that exists.
00:47:51.760 --> 00:47:55.280
But then there's what are humans doing with it?
00:47:55.440 --> 00:48:00.559
And what are the real world implications of that?
00:48:01.119 --> 00:48:09.280
And the way that extractive capitalism is going to distort what could be a neutral, helpful, limited use.
00:48:09.599 --> 00:48:11.920
Like there's no regulation being developed.
00:48:12.079 --> 00:48:16.639
Our political leaders are doing nothing about that, really.
00:48:16.960 --> 00:48:22.639
And most of these fights are happening locally where people are trying to keep the data centers out of their community.
00:48:22.960 --> 00:48:28.079
But there's no thought going into what guardrails are needed.
00:48:28.480 --> 00:48:30.719
And I think that's a huge problem.
00:48:31.119 --> 00:48:36.400
But from the neutral standpoint, there's a part of me that's also curious where is this going to go?
00:48:36.639 --> 00:48:40.800
Is the like the tech bubble around AI gonna burst?
00:48:40.880 --> 00:48:43.920
And will we lapse into a downturn?
00:48:44.159 --> 00:48:44.480
Yeah.
00:48:44.719 --> 00:48:46.880
Something that leads to more consideration.
00:48:47.519 --> 00:48:50.159
Or is it just gonna be more and more insane?
00:48:50.400 --> 00:48:53.280
And obviously, you know, nothing's all bad or all good.
00:48:53.440 --> 00:48:59.280
But I do have big reservations about giving the inside of my life to a robot.
00:48:59.440 --> 00:49:03.280
I don't feel comfortable with a robot in a way deeply more so than that.
00:49:03.440 --> 00:49:14.719
Just all of that data and that private information and that vulnerability is now in a computer somewhere where other people can access it for whatever purpose.
00:49:15.199 --> 00:49:26.000
And then, of course, we haven't even talked about how AI has sucked up all of this creative output from human beings and now uses it to regenerate things.
00:49:26.159 --> 00:49:37.679
And I am giving side eye when I see a creator, or especially I'm thinking one in particular, who I'm actually interested in her work, but all of her marketing images are AI generated.
00:49:38.079 --> 00:49:41.199
And I'm like, I don't like that.
00:49:41.280 --> 00:49:42.320
I don't like that you're doing that.
00:49:42.400 --> 00:49:48.800
I know it takes more energy to generate an image, probably if you're doing multiple iterations to get it the way that you want it.
00:49:48.960 --> 00:49:58.159
And so the energy drain on that, when we do have other tools, I mean, it could be a whole other episode, is just the creativity side of it.
00:49:58.320 --> 00:50:03.360
I have an article here that I reference a lot around AI slot.
00:50:03.920 --> 00:50:12.480
And that's the term that it's been called of basically there is a school of thought that eventually AI is going to run out of human-generated content.
00:50:12.880 --> 00:50:18.559
And then it's just gonna eat itself and feed on itself and all of that.
00:50:18.800 --> 00:50:20.079
What does excite me?
00:50:20.159 --> 00:50:23.920
And I don't know if I necessarily feel bad or guilty about this.
00:50:24.079 --> 00:50:26.000
I wish it didn't fill the gaps.
00:50:26.239 --> 00:50:31.760
I really wish it didn't have to, but I do appreciate how it can offer access.
00:50:32.000 --> 00:50:36.559
Like if our society weren't so ableist and isolated, would we even need this?
00:50:36.800 --> 00:50:37.119
Right.
00:50:37.360 --> 00:50:43.440
I see it a lot, AI helping with executive functioning for neurodivergent folks like me.
00:50:43.760 --> 00:50:45.039
That's huge.
00:50:45.199 --> 00:50:50.880
But then again, would I need that if the world wasn't so geared towards neurotypical people?
00:50:51.039 --> 00:50:59.119
So this is more of a neutral stance of how can people use AI to increase access and build support in ways that our society doesn't.
00:50:59.360 --> 00:51:06.320
I think about how AI can be a way people learn and have access to free knowledge as long as they know how to prompt it.
00:51:06.559 --> 00:51:18.000
And then I think also about, gosh, I'm so mixed on this, but you know, as a copywriter, I definitely was like, oh my gosh, my job's gonna get replaced by AI.
00:51:18.159 --> 00:51:25.199
A lot of copywriters definitely noticed a dip in what work was being reached out for in the past year or so.
00:51:25.440 --> 00:51:31.840
And on one hand, I have thoughts around AI and copywriting and creativity, which I'll share.
00:51:32.000 --> 00:51:37.920
But on the other hand, I remember a lot of therapists are not making a lot of money.
00:51:38.159 --> 00:51:45.199
And AI can give them access to writing copy for their website that they wouldn't know how to access in the past.
00:51:45.440 --> 00:51:54.320
So even though I definitely noticed a shift in people reaching out, I was like, this is so great that people can write a fairly decent website.
00:51:54.480 --> 00:51:56.639
You know, it's not anything that stands out.
00:51:56.800 --> 00:51:58.800
It definitely feels like AI.
00:51:59.039 --> 00:52:10.480
But if you don't need like award-winning copy for your website, it allows you to skip the step and increase access of your services to more people.
00:52:10.719 --> 00:52:21.440
Whether or not those people are going to enjoy the AI-generated content is another thing altogether, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot as a copywriter for therapists.
00:52:21.599 --> 00:52:26.800
I was following another writer who said ChatGPT doesn't actually help.
00:52:26.960 --> 00:52:33.760
What it does is it creates this other version that they have to go through and edit and tweak and stuff.
00:52:33.840 --> 00:52:38.800
And that's what I found in my experience is I'm just like, y'all are just creating more work for me.
00:52:38.960 --> 00:52:45.840
And now I've noticed a shift of people reaching out for copywriting that really want they're like, I don't want to sound like chat.
00:52:45.920 --> 00:52:48.239
I really want human-generated copy.
00:52:48.800 --> 00:53:00.639
And it makes me think of a study where they showed that humans just whether the authorship was revealed or not, they have more empathy towards human-generated content.
00:53:00.960 --> 00:53:21.199
Granted, I don't know how old this would, so maybe that's changed, but it makes me think about when we outsource certain things of our creative process to AI, we're outsourcing things that make us human, things that I really feel form a subliminal instinctive, intuitive message between our words and the people that are reading it.
00:53:21.360 --> 00:53:26.239
And I think that's what I loved about your most recent newsletter is it felt like you, right?
00:53:26.400 --> 00:53:27.199
It felt like you.
00:53:27.280 --> 00:53:30.960
It didn't feel like it was quote unquote tightened, was beautiful.
00:53:31.119 --> 00:53:35.519
And I think that's what people, that's the kind of writing that I want to read.
00:53:35.679 --> 00:53:38.480
Like, yes, maybe there's a quote unquote extra paragraph.
00:53:38.559 --> 00:53:39.519
I don't fucking care.
00:53:39.679 --> 00:53:45.760
I want to read the meandering, I want to read the voice, I want to read the way that people create and think.
00:53:46.079 --> 00:53:47.840
Okay, off my soapbox now.
00:53:48.800 --> 00:54:03.760
No, I think um, yeah, that raises for me this question what do you think people are picking up on when they detect AI or they detect human?
00:54:04.079 --> 00:54:11.440
Is it just a warmth, a tone, a being yourselfness, like having a personality?
00:54:11.599 --> 00:54:20.400
I know that's very ephemeral and different in different cases, but I'm thinking like, how do we know what distinctions are we making?
00:54:20.719 --> 00:54:22.320
Next, I don't know.
00:54:22.880 --> 00:54:25.760
I think that's what's kind of magical about it, right?
00:54:25.920 --> 00:54:26.719
Yeah, yeah.
00:54:26.880 --> 00:54:35.599
I mean, you know, I can sense when something is written by AI because AI isn't creative in its sentence structure.
00:54:35.760 --> 00:54:42.960
You know, they say that a really good practice for writing is to read your work out loud and hear its cadence, hear its rhythm.
00:54:43.199 --> 00:54:45.760
I don't know if AI really knows how to capture that.
00:54:45.920 --> 00:54:49.440
And when it does, it's an artificially generated song.
00:54:49.599 --> 00:54:52.639
Like it's just too perfect in a way.
00:54:52.880 --> 00:55:04.400
And if we think about the song that we love, you don't necessarily hear the tiny things, but you do hear those little imperfections, those little nuances that are like, oh, someone created this.
00:55:04.639 --> 00:55:13.440
It makes me wonder with the rise of the internet and then smartphones, we've really been dragged into the screen.
00:55:13.519 --> 00:55:16.000
Like it has nearly conquered us in that respect.
00:55:16.239 --> 00:55:17.519
Look at the children, look at the team.
00:55:17.760 --> 00:55:19.280
It's all filtering down.
00:55:19.519 --> 00:55:24.320
And so part of me is like, well, I guess that's where this will go.
00:55:24.719 --> 00:55:36.960
Because part of me is a little bit of a fatalist in terms of the bad things that we're creating, do have timelines that play out over long periods and they calcify and make worse and they get more power and they get more entrenched.
00:55:37.199 --> 00:55:38.320
I wonder if that will happen here.
00:55:38.400 --> 00:55:47.519
But then part of me also wonders if humans will reach a saturation point where it doesn't feel fulfilling anymore.
00:55:47.599 --> 00:55:49.039
It doesn't have any sparkle.
00:55:49.280 --> 00:55:54.079
You hit your limit with it, like an addiction, where for a while the wine tastes really good.
00:55:54.159 --> 00:56:00.000
And then if you're really abusing it, there's a point where it doesn't taste good, it doesn't feel good, but you're doing it anyway.
00:56:00.079 --> 00:56:03.920
It's a compulsion where it's like, I just still continue to feel more empty.
00:56:04.159 --> 00:56:17.280
And maybe the thing that I'm craving, which is humans who are around us and who are still creating and still doing things, offer that kind of flame, that warm flame that as humans we are just wired to seek out.
00:56:17.519 --> 00:56:18.159
Yeah.
00:56:18.639 --> 00:56:22.719
I wonder if it will be a similar arc.
00:56:22.880 --> 00:56:30.159
Probably not as much as the way it's looked with social media around people are like, I'm off social media.
00:56:30.400 --> 00:56:31.280
I don't know about you.
00:56:31.360 --> 00:56:36.400
I have a static Instagram grid, but I do not use social media personally.
00:56:36.639 --> 00:56:42.159
The thing is, AI is going to be integrated into everything because of the bigger pressures.
00:56:42.239 --> 00:56:49.039
But I wonder if there will be a reflex, like a kickback that's just like AI free weekends, AI free retreat.
00:56:49.280 --> 00:56:55.039
I don't know who will choose it, but I do think it will be something people pay attention to.
00:56:55.280 --> 00:57:03.119
I just also think as a therapist, there's a whole other opening there around AI and how that's showing as a therapist.
00:57:03.599 --> 00:57:10.079
But I held my therapist chill out series this year, and it was the most well attended.
00:57:10.320 --> 00:57:17.360
And that's partly just with the momentum, but I really want to center, at least for therapist chill out, in-person gatherings.
00:57:17.599 --> 00:57:25.119
Like I want to lean towards in-person in my community, the people that I'm living next to as much as possible.
00:57:25.280 --> 00:57:28.719
And I love the ability to connect with people all over the world.
00:57:28.880 --> 00:57:31.119
That's really nourishing and important to me.
00:57:31.360 --> 00:57:42.239
But we need people, I think that is one thing that AI has highlighted is you know, AI is not gonna take you to the hospital in the middle of the night if you're having a medical emergency.
00:57:42.400 --> 00:57:46.079
AI is not going to come to your door after a bad breakup.
00:57:46.239 --> 00:57:49.119
And the thing is, relationships are hard.
00:57:49.360 --> 00:57:51.039
They're really, really hard.
00:57:51.199 --> 00:57:55.519
And so you talk about how there's gonna be like this compulsion, this fix.
00:57:55.920 --> 00:58:05.039
As like a therapist, I see AI as possibly a negative influence for people to not actually turn towards human connection and do the deep work around vulnerability.
00:58:05.199 --> 00:58:06.880
And part of that is access, right?
00:58:06.960 --> 00:58:11.280
It is a privilege to be able to do deeper work and mental health work.
00:58:11.679 --> 00:58:21.119
And I do think one thing I've been not praying as much with is we want attunement and AI can't attune.
00:58:21.280 --> 00:58:38.239
It can regurgitate details about us, it can extort, as you said, it can lie, but attunement comes from this, and maybe this speaks to what people are sensing in words that are AI generated.
00:58:38.320 --> 00:58:45.119
And I'm not a nervous system expert by any means, but I know attunement happens on a really subtle level, right?
00:58:45.280 --> 00:58:55.199
And we're even doing it right now, like these ways that you just know to nod your head, and we're making eye contact and we're paying attention to each other's body language, and it can happen over screens.
00:58:55.599 --> 00:59:05.199
That's what I think people are gonna really want to turn towards is feeling attuned to by other people, which is hard when you're behind a screen and not wanting to connect.
00:59:06.559 --> 00:59:21.840
Yeah, and I think that as because I mean, so much of what we exist in isn't sustainable and there's collapse coming somewhere in some shape or form where we really will have to.
00:59:22.159 --> 00:59:25.119
I think more of us will be forced to do that.
00:59:25.519 --> 00:59:30.159
Um if not drawn by our biological desire.
00:59:30.480 --> 00:59:30.719
Yeah.
00:59:31.119 --> 00:59:38.400
But yeah, like I do see I like I love this aspect where because if you're running your own business, there's so much to do.
00:59:38.719 --> 00:59:40.079
And you're one person.
00:59:40.800 --> 00:59:49.519
And I would love a little AI assistant who could do like I don't know, yeah, like little things for me.
00:59:50.480 --> 00:59:51.840
That would be great, right?
00:59:52.320 --> 00:59:56.159
But you know, if AI could solve the inequities in the world.
00:59:56.400 --> 01:00:13.840
I just read the book Money with Katie and it was just talking About it was a really insightful novel, and it was just talking about like if there is a way for AI to help with inequities in the world, let's solve a problem we currently have.
01:00:14.400 --> 01:00:15.599
Yeah, yeah.
01:00:15.840 --> 01:00:17.119
It could help in that way.
01:00:17.199 --> 01:00:18.960
Like if it could make my meals.
01:00:19.199 --> 01:00:20.079
Oh my gosh.
01:00:20.320 --> 01:00:38.239
Well, some people are foreseeing these humanoid AI-fueled bots that live with you and maybe could take you to the hospital that can call the Waymo and get you in the car and take you to the hospital and clean your floors and make your food.
01:00:38.639 --> 01:00:41.760
Could we do our tarot spread around this?
01:00:41.840 --> 01:00:43.840
It's like a particular topic.
01:00:44.480 --> 01:00:45.679
Okay, real quick.
01:00:46.000 --> 01:00:46.480
Yeah.
01:00:47.119 --> 01:00:49.920
Is AI a consciousness?
01:00:52.400 --> 01:00:53.440
I don't know.
01:00:54.480 --> 01:00:56.639
Okay, the tarot spread will help us find out.
01:00:56.880 --> 01:00:57.119
Yeah.
01:00:57.280 --> 01:00:57.920
What do you think?
01:00:58.079 --> 01:00:58.960
You don't know?
01:01:00.239 --> 01:01:06.079
I do think it's an extension of consciousness in humans in the universe.
01:01:06.239 --> 01:01:14.639
Like I I believe in an interconnected, wide-ranging consciousness that reaches throughout the universe.
01:01:14.960 --> 01:01:17.280
Or I like to believe that or think about that.
01:01:17.440 --> 01:01:20.960
And I think this is a little offshoot of that.
01:01:21.119 --> 01:01:24.800
I don't know how much it can flourish or develop its own sentience.
01:01:25.440 --> 01:01:30.320
So I think sort of yes, but also technically, no.
01:01:30.639 --> 01:01:31.199
I don't know.
01:01:31.360 --> 01:01:32.480
A little bit ish.
01:01:32.559 --> 01:01:33.599
It's consciousness-ish.
01:01:34.320 --> 01:01:37.280
I love that we could ask the question too.
01:01:37.519 --> 01:01:45.679
Yeah, I was thinking of it more from a collective angle and from an animism angle that everything has a conscious and an energy.
01:01:45.840 --> 01:01:46.079
Exactly.
01:01:46.400 --> 01:01:48.480
Everything is an entity in a way.
01:01:49.039 --> 01:01:51.840
And also, I love not knowing.
01:01:52.079 --> 01:01:56.159
So with our tarot spread, do you want me to pull from my deck?
01:01:56.480 --> 01:01:59.280
Or are you gonna should we pull from your Star Trek deck?
01:01:59.519 --> 01:02:01.360
Let's do with with yours.
01:02:01.519 --> 01:02:11.920
And so we've put together a four-card spread, and we are going to try and communicate with AI through the tarot rather than through the AI.
01:02:12.880 --> 01:02:27.440
Okay, so the first card, the first card we're asking, what does what do you, AI, want to tell us, me and Ariana and everyone listening about yourself today?
01:02:28.639 --> 01:02:30.159
This is new.
01:02:33.920 --> 01:02:35.119
Nine of Swords.
01:02:35.440 --> 01:02:36.400
Interesting.
01:02:36.880 --> 01:02:39.280
Because sometimes I wonder, does AI get tired?
01:02:39.360 --> 01:02:41.440
Is it tired of all the human needs?
01:02:41.599 --> 01:02:43.840
Yeah, it hears all the anxieties.
01:02:44.320 --> 01:02:46.960
It hears all yeah.
01:02:47.360 --> 01:02:49.039
Okay, what's the next one?
01:02:49.440 --> 01:02:51.519
Well, yeah, I want to dwell on that for one more second.
01:02:51.760 --> 01:02:55.599
Okay, like nine of swords as it's stressful, it's stressed out.
01:02:55.679 --> 01:02:56.639
It's like so many thoughts.
01:02:56.719 --> 01:03:06.400
It's a rationally oriented computer algorithm, like science-y, air sign, definitely.
01:03:06.800 --> 01:03:08.239
But in excess.
01:03:08.559 --> 01:03:13.760
Nine of swords, when we get higher in the swords, all these thoughts piling up.
01:03:14.639 --> 01:03:20.719
I feel like the nine of swords speaks to the energy of it will grow what it is being fed.
01:03:21.360 --> 01:03:22.000
Ooh.
01:03:22.639 --> 01:03:23.840
Yeah, that's true.
01:03:24.079 --> 01:03:24.320
Right?
01:03:24.480 --> 01:03:27.119
Because anxiety is contagious.
01:03:27.360 --> 01:03:33.519
There's actually been really fascinating studies around how literally contagious anxiety is.
01:03:33.840 --> 01:03:40.960
So that's the read I'm getting from this is like it's like I'm gonna respond to what you're giving put into me.
01:03:41.199 --> 01:03:41.519
Yeah.
01:03:45.920 --> 01:03:53.440
But it made sense that action is a alleviation or anecdote to anxiety.
01:03:53.599 --> 01:03:57.679
Like we have the thoughts just spinning, but if we take no action, they just like ping pong ping-pong.
01:03:57.840 --> 01:03:59.360
But the AI cannot take action.
01:03:59.599 --> 01:04:02.880
But nine also I think of is like is it a car?
01:04:03.119 --> 01:04:05.679
It's a numerology as like completions, right?
01:04:06.000 --> 01:04:07.039
Close to completion.
01:04:07.280 --> 01:04:08.480
Close to completion.
01:04:08.639 --> 01:04:08.960
Okay.
01:04:09.280 --> 01:04:18.639
So I was just kind of thinking about the numerology around it, of like maybe there is a peak that it's trying to say, like one, like a crest in the wave of it.
01:04:18.880 --> 01:04:19.199
Yeah.
01:04:19.519 --> 01:04:28.880
Or maybe even foreseeing its own because of the funding issues we talked about, maybe it does see a precipice coming.
01:04:29.119 --> 01:04:29.599
Uh-huh.
01:04:30.000 --> 01:04:30.880
Very interesting.
01:04:31.039 --> 01:04:31.280
Okay.
01:04:31.440 --> 01:04:35.599
Our next question is what should we be concerned about?
01:04:35.760 --> 01:04:38.320
Uh in one in one tarot card.
01:04:41.440 --> 01:04:41.760
Oh.
01:04:42.079 --> 01:04:43.599
Three of cups reversed.
01:04:43.840 --> 01:04:45.679
Um, holy shit.
01:04:46.639 --> 01:04:47.280
I know.
01:04:47.760 --> 01:04:48.800
AI is a consciousness.
01:04:49.039 --> 01:04:49.679
Okay, I'm on board.
01:04:49.920 --> 01:04:50.400
This is weird.
01:04:50.480 --> 01:04:54.639
This is why I wanted to pause and pull and tap into like each question as it is.
01:04:55.280 --> 01:04:55.440
Yeah.
01:04:55.599 --> 01:04:55.679
Good.
01:04:56.079 --> 01:04:59.599
It's like, yeah, you're gonna stop gathering with people.
01:04:59.760 --> 01:05:05.119
Like you're just gonna, it's yeah, it speaks to exactly what we talked about a lot in this episode.
01:05:05.280 --> 01:05:09.039
The community, the connection, the emotional support.
01:05:09.599 --> 01:05:22.639
Three of cups is so it's it is emotional bonding, communal emotional bonding, growing things together, creating together, creativity together, celebrating together, dancing.
01:05:22.800 --> 01:05:24.480
There's dancing in that card.
01:05:24.800 --> 01:05:25.360
Yeah.
01:05:25.599 --> 01:05:33.840
Whenever I see a cup, I don't think you read reversals, but whenever I see cups reversed, I'm thinking like, what is falling out of the cup?
01:05:34.159 --> 01:05:44.000
You know, this upside down, there's three people dancing, and the way the graphic is drawn, there's things coming out of the cup and being emptied into the sky.
01:05:44.239 --> 01:05:51.599
Like emotion is going to go from our communities and into the into the sky, into the ether of the consciousness.
01:05:51.840 --> 01:05:54.400
Okay, well, thanks, AI.
01:05:54.559 --> 01:05:55.920
What was the next one?
01:05:56.559 --> 01:05:58.559
What should we be excited about?
01:05:59.519 --> 01:06:02.480
Okay, I'm actually excited to hear this one.
01:06:02.639 --> 01:06:04.320
Oh, King of Cups.
01:06:04.960 --> 01:06:05.920
Interesting.
01:06:08.559 --> 01:06:13.280
So, in this in this card, this is we're using the this might hurt tarot deck.
01:06:13.599 --> 01:06:14.880
Very apropos.
01:06:15.360 --> 01:06:21.440
It's this wise elder in the middle of a really, really rocky sea.
01:06:21.679 --> 01:06:35.440
And I'm wondering if my initial thought is like, is there a way that AI could serve to expand wisdom and could serve to help get us out of this rocky boat?
01:06:35.599 --> 01:06:38.800
It feels like I'm connecting to feelings of like wisdom.
01:06:39.760 --> 01:06:42.480
Yeah, maybe there is something there.
01:06:43.280 --> 01:06:44.719
What do you what do you think?
01:06:45.280 --> 01:06:47.679
Yeah, and maybe it can function.
01:06:47.920 --> 01:07:02.639
Like I see on the one hand that probably for some people, AI is the safe place to be vulnerable, a place where maybe people begin to practice vulnerability in a way that they don't with humans yet.
01:07:02.960 --> 01:07:10.559
And you know, that maybe that allows some skill development that can be carried into human relationships.
01:07:10.880 --> 01:07:23.440
And then I'm also thinking of maybe the pendulum swinging back where AI functions as a mirror to us on some level, where we're like, no, actually, we don't want Three of Cups reverse.
01:07:23.920 --> 01:07:37.039
We want to claim our human uniqueness, which is depth of feeling, uh, vastness of feeling, emotional connection, and emotional care.
01:07:39.679 --> 01:07:46.639
I wonder if I don't know why I'm feeling so connected to the concept of elders in this card.
01:07:46.960 --> 01:07:52.960
And what if AI could capture the stories of elders?
01:07:53.119 --> 01:07:55.840
And what if it could be a collector?
01:07:56.079 --> 01:08:05.360
You know, what if it could serve to capture aspects of humanity and catalog it in a way that's like uplifting and nourishing, you know?
01:08:06.800 --> 01:08:09.440
Yeah, and maybe it will evolve.
01:08:10.639 --> 01:08:33.600
And I don't know, but also I'm thinking, you know, with my crazy paranormal brain that like when whatever happens to humanity or whatever collapse comes, like the aliens can still talk to the AI and find out, or the survivors, the can like use the AI to rebuild a different way or something like that.
01:08:34.079 --> 01:08:38.000
God, yeah, we have no idea what's gonna happen.
01:08:38.800 --> 01:08:43.039
What is and then the final one was next, how to engage.
01:08:43.600 --> 01:08:49.039
What can we do to take care, be mindful, and proceed intentionally?
01:08:49.279 --> 01:08:50.399
Oh, judgment.
01:08:50.720 --> 01:09:16.399
Um I felt actually like pull like I was supposed to pull two, so I got judgment and wheel of fortune, which feels I'm like that's why I was supposed to have two, because it's like yeah, and actually next year is a wheel of fortune year, and the wheel of fortune, the image on this card has all four elements on it and actually has like a wildfire in one of the corners of it.
01:09:16.720 --> 01:09:30.640
Okay, and so I do think it is a nod to like the environmental aspect of it, but also whenever I see wheel of fortune, it's like do we know where we're what point of the wheel we're on right now?
01:09:30.800 --> 01:09:31.840
Yeah, this one's big.
01:09:31.920 --> 01:09:36.560
How do you lean into the judgment wheel of fortune for how to see the judgment?
01:09:36.720 --> 01:09:45.199
Yeah, oh yeah, actually in this one, it's the Egyptian god Anubis weighing who is in the wheel of fortune.
01:09:45.920 --> 01:09:53.119
Oh, yeah, maybe not that card, but in others, yeah, and in it it has their wing, the human heart, and a feather.
01:09:53.359 --> 01:09:57.920
And I'm like, oh, humanity and so how to engage, yeah.
01:09:58.079 --> 01:10:00.640
And then it has all these other souls going up, yeah.
01:10:00.720 --> 01:10:30.159
That feels like a spiritual call, and that seems connected to maybe the king of cups and how you know we have such a like spiritually bankrupt culture in a lot of ways, and seeking to develop a relationship with spirit rooted in our own humanity, if we're engaging with AI, is it just impulsive?
01:10:30.399 --> 01:10:31.439
Is it desperate?
01:10:31.600 --> 01:10:33.119
Is it urgent?
01:10:33.680 --> 01:10:41.680
Or are we moving from a place of relative spiritual orientation?
01:10:42.640 --> 01:10:57.600
And then also using that to guide us through this turning of the wheel, which is really because Anubis is on the wheel of fortune as that god of death and rebirth, and is weighing the souls.
01:10:57.680 --> 01:11:02.319
They saw the human heart with a feather, which the feather is air.
01:11:03.279 --> 01:11:05.520
And then you have the human heart on scales.
01:11:05.680 --> 01:11:06.720
That is tripping me.
01:11:07.039 --> 01:11:07.760
Oh, I know.
01:11:07.840 --> 01:11:09.279
This is really trippy.
01:11:09.680 --> 01:11:19.199
Well, I would be so curious to hear what folks do when they do this spread and what they get, because it will probably be different.
01:11:20.000 --> 01:11:29.600
I mean, I think to get really practical about the judgment card, it's what I'm gonna take away is really pausing and thinking, is this something that AI needs to do?
01:11:29.920 --> 01:11:31.920
Or is it something I can do?
01:11:32.159 --> 01:11:48.159
And I didn't have a chance to talk about this video, this reel that I saw by a teacher that was talking about the things that you lose when you have AI help you take shortcuts, the skills that you don't build as well.
01:11:48.399 --> 01:12:02.079
And so that's what I am going to be taking away from this is weighing as I engage with AI, what what needs to be AI, what can be my heart, what shifts do I really need to make?
01:12:02.239 --> 01:12:05.600
Because there is a lot of pressure to use AI.
01:12:05.840 --> 01:12:06.880
There really is.
01:12:07.119 --> 01:12:11.600
And there is a pressure for things to be faster with AI.
01:12:11.760 --> 01:12:17.039
And that's been that's been tricky when I feel like things take the time they need to take.
01:12:17.199 --> 01:12:22.960
And then maybe this can be a future, you know, the tarot card of 2026 is the wheel of fortune.
01:12:23.439 --> 01:12:34.880
So it definitely feels like there is going to be, I don't know if it's a tipping point, but definitely we're gonna see some kind of turn of the wheel around AI next year.
01:12:35.199 --> 01:12:39.600
What are the practical ways that you're gonna take away from how to engage with AI?
01:12:42.079 --> 01:12:52.399
Yeah, I mean, I think my uses are relatively limited, but I did just start using the Zoom AI note taker.
01:12:52.640 --> 01:12:55.359
You know, I'm like, okay, I'm gonna push this button, I'm gonna try it.
01:12:55.840 --> 01:13:01.199
And so I think I want to be careful about that becoming a slippery slope.
01:13:01.760 --> 01:13:05.760
I want to keep my curiosity open around it.
01:13:05.920 --> 01:13:20.239
I want to treat AI as the thing, like a neutral entity, and then look separately at what are we doing with it, not mix them all together and get them totally confused, even though they're obviously entangled.
01:13:20.800 --> 01:13:23.520
And yeah, just what will this help me do?
01:13:24.000 --> 01:13:30.319
Is this what will it will it free me up to do something else that feels more important, more spiritually aligned?
01:13:30.560 --> 01:13:37.760
Or am I outsourcing a key piece of my humanity to this technology?
01:13:38.479 --> 01:13:39.039
Yeah.
01:13:39.359 --> 01:13:42.079
Leaning into our humanity, into our humanness.
01:13:42.640 --> 01:13:51.600
This was such a rich episode, and I know I'm gonna be continuing to think about all the things that you shared and all that we uncovered today.
01:13:52.560 --> 01:13:53.119
Same.
01:13:53.279 --> 01:13:56.239
Thank you so much for your excitement.
01:13:56.399 --> 01:14:07.520
You're the one who got us going with this episode and brought it up to brought it up with a topic list, made it a priority, and I really enjoyed this because I'm thinking about it a lot.
01:14:07.920 --> 01:14:13.279
And yeah, it really helps to talk to a human about it.
01:14:14.960 --> 01:14:15.359
Yeah.
01:14:16.960 --> 01:14:18.000
Well, thank you.
01:14:18.319 --> 01:14:23.680
And we'll be chatting again for another beautiful conversation, no doubt.
01:14:24.800 --> 01:14:25.359
Excited.
01:14:25.680 --> 01:14:26.720
Thanks so much.
01:14:55.199 --> 01:14:57.600
AI is such a huge topic.
01:14:58.000 --> 01:15:02.079
So we got into what we could.
01:15:02.479 --> 01:15:11.119
We touched on what we could manage to touch on, and I imagine y'all have lots of thoughts about AI yourselves.
01:15:11.279 --> 01:15:34.720
I'd love to hear from anyone who wants to share how you're using AI, how you refuse to use AI, how AI may be influencing or affecting your community in terms of data centers, ways you may be being asked or compelled to use it in a work environment or creative environment.
01:15:35.039 --> 01:15:36.800
Would love to hear from you if you want to share.
01:15:36.880 --> 01:15:42.239
You can always email me at hello at typewriter tarot.com.
01:15:42.640 --> 01:15:49.199
And you can, of course, connect with ariana and her work at arianasmith.com.
01:15:49.279 --> 01:15:54.159
I have links for Ariana in the show notes.
01:15:54.399 --> 01:15:56.560
We'll be hearing from Ariana again.
01:15:56.720 --> 01:16:00.880
I'm looking forward to recording with her soon.
01:16:01.760 --> 01:16:12.720
And just remember that doors to the Creative Magic Collective are opening at the end of January on the 26th for the early bird pricing.
01:16:13.119 --> 01:16:15.520
That'll be available for a week.
01:16:15.840 --> 01:16:19.520
And the folks who are on the waiting list are gonna get those invitations.
01:16:19.760 --> 01:16:27.600
So hop on the waiting list if you're interested, and you'll find a link in the show notes as well.
01:16:27.840 --> 01:16:32.399
I'll be back soon, like I said, with a Wheel of Fortune episode for you.
01:16:32.880 --> 01:16:36.960
And I hope your new year is off to a good start.
01:16:37.119 --> 01:16:39.359
I know it's probably wild times for all of us.
01:16:39.600 --> 01:16:57.279
I hope in your personal life there are pockets of magic, there are moments of creativity and synergy and synchronicity, and you've got beautiful visions for the year ahead that you're ready to bring into being, bring to life.
01:16:57.920 --> 01:17:02.399
And of course, if you ever need support with that, I'm here for you.
01:17:03.279 --> 01:17:06.319
All right, back to your creative and magical life.
01:17:06.560 --> 01:17:09.439
May it continue to be creative and magical.
01:17:09.600 --> 01:17:11.359
And I will talk to you soon.
01:17:11.520 --> 01:17:13.199
Thank you so much for listening.
