ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Michal Postava wins his first NHL start in the most legendary way possible, as this Detroit Red Wings podcast has the Red Wings vs Oilers a 4-3 shootout game recap. Max Bultman joins to break down Red Wings trade rumors around Simon Edvinsson and Dylan Larkin.
(00:00) - Intro
Max Bultman joins us for another Good in the Room episode!
(03:55) - Oilers Shootout Win
MICHAL. POSTAVA. Massive win for the Czech netminder in his 1st career start. Viktor Arvidsson scores his fifth goal of the season, fourth on the power play, before Dylan Larkin ties it late with the goalie pulled. Moritz Seider's shift against the best player of his generation is pure "teach tape", and Michal Postava goes three-for-three in the shootout against McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nugent-Hopkins.
(29:50) - Postava & Goaltending Future
Michal Postava still hasn't allowed more than three goals in a game in North America. Max sees him heading back to Grand Rapids once Daniil Tarasov is healthy, but with John Gibson a pending UFA, more NHL starts should follow this season.
(34:30) - Axel Sandin-Pellikka Scratches
Axel Sandin-Pellikka has now sat in the press box for three straight games, and Brad warns against coaching the creativity out of him. Kris Letang comes up as the best-case comparable, while Max sees a 40-point career like Shayne Gostisbehere's.
(46:50) - Dylan Larkin Trade Market
Max runs through all 10 teams on Dylan Larkin's list and only sees two or three real fits, with Minnesota the big one. Off the list, Buffalo makes sense thanks to Tage Thompson and their assets, Larkin's Olympic linemate in Milan, and Boston isn't crazy either if Hagens or Minten are available.
(57:00) - Simon Edvinsson Landing Spots
The longer this drags on, the more Simon Edvinsson's situation looks like a real trade request, with a month and four days left to sign him for this season. The panel looks at St. Louis, Nashville and San Jose, building a package around Michael Misa with the Noah Dobson or Sergachev trade as a price check.
(01:09:05) - Quinn Hughes & Bill Guerin
Bill Guerin admits "I don't know what's going to happen" with Quinn Hughes, and the crew debates whether Minnesota should sell or go for it while sitting first in the Central. Plus, why an Edvinsson-for-Hughes swap is still a no.
(01:17:45) - Overtime Mailbag
Your questions on why Carter Bear is better off with the Griffins for now, taking a swing at Ivan Miroshnichenko, and whether a hot dog is a sandwich. Plus, Larkin's "muted" goal celebrations and interim GM Shawn Horcoff making the call on his trade.
