00:00:00.920 --> 00:00:03.459
Why the Fork is a podcast about the design of
00:00:03.459 --> 00:00:06.299
everyday humble objects. Why? Well, they're like
00:00:06.299 --> 00:00:09.199
what they're like. Is it the history? Is it the
00:00:09.199 --> 00:00:11.460
design? Is it the technology? Who invented them?
00:00:11.640 --> 00:00:14.419
And, you know, maybe why aren't they better than
00:00:14.419 --> 00:00:17.859
they are? Hi, I'm Ben Diamond and I'm an inventor
00:00:17.859 --> 00:00:21.059
of consumer products. We've got some of the most
00:00:21.059 --> 00:00:23.059
humble and beautiful objects in your home and
00:00:23.059 --> 00:00:25.719
office. Things like the tin opener, the toaster
00:00:25.719 --> 00:00:28.100
and the hair straighteners, and even the amazing
00:00:28.100 --> 00:00:32.219
washing machine. So the podcast is for anyone
00:00:32.219 --> 00:00:34.719
with a curious mind who wants to know the history,
00:00:34.899 --> 00:00:37.560
the design and the marketing of those everyday
00:00:37.560 --> 00:00:43.140
objects that you touch, well, every day. So we
00:00:43.140 --> 00:00:45.320
started thinking our podcast was just going to
00:00:45.320 --> 00:00:47.840
be about the design and the inventors. It turned
00:00:47.840 --> 00:00:51.359
out it's a lot to do with Napoleon, social changes,
00:00:51.700 --> 00:00:55.729
how society has evolved. war, all sorts of different
00:00:55.729 --> 00:00:58.070
things that have come into it, like the marketing
00:00:58.070 --> 00:01:00.390
and the channels, and they've shaped why the
00:01:00.390 --> 00:01:03.530
products look and feel the way they do. Maybe
00:01:03.530 --> 00:01:05.689
you're a designer yourself or an inventor, or
00:01:05.689 --> 00:01:07.849
perhaps you've got great ideas, or perhaps you
00:01:07.849 --> 00:01:09.450
run a business and want to know how to be more
00:01:09.450 --> 00:01:12.209
innovative, or maybe you're just curious as to
00:01:12.209 --> 00:01:16.930
why the tin opener is so easy to use. Come and
00:01:16.930 --> 00:01:19.329
join us on Wire the Fork. Follow us, subscribe,
00:01:19.569 --> 00:01:20.730
