00:00:12.169 --> 00:00:15.369
Greetings and welcome into the Whatcom Preps Podcast. This is
2
00:00:15.410 --> 00:00:21.789
episode 452, the Week 5 Fall Sports Recap. I'm Tyler
3
00:00:21.850 --> 00:00:26.050
Anderson of Whatcom Preps. This podcast is dedicated to all
4
00:00:26.109 --> 00:00:29.719
the fall sports being played, except football, as that podcast
5
00:00:29.739 --> 00:00:33.240
will come out tomorrow. I'm going to talk about Walton
6
00:00:33.280 --> 00:00:35.259
Beverage for a second, as Walton Beverage has been a
7
00:00:35.320 --> 00:00:38.630
staple in our community for 95 years. And I will
8
00:00:38.670 --> 00:00:41.070
continue to work harder every day to make the fantastic
9
00:00:41.109 --> 00:00:44.170
people of Walton Beverage proud to sponsor youth sports in
10
00:00:44.229 --> 00:00:48.259
our community. They deliver superior quality and commitment, and I
11
00:00:48.299 --> 00:00:51.679
plan to do the very same. All right, let's start
12
00:00:51.719 --> 00:00:54.479
off by talking about Cross Country. Of course, Cross Country
13
00:00:54.520 --> 00:00:58.219
brought to you by Stauffer Insurance. Give them a call
14
00:00:58.240 --> 00:00:59.829
at 360-746-8803 or visit them in person at 1903 French
15
00:00:59.909 --> 00:01:09.280
Street in Linden. or online at StaufferInsurance.com. They are happy
16
00:01:09.379 --> 00:01:12.769
to help. All right. Well, again, all the teams raced
17
00:01:13.000 --> 00:01:18.310
on Wednesday. And Whatcom County, you know, another great showing.
18
00:01:18.329 --> 00:01:21.049
We're going to start off with the girls' races. And
19
00:01:21.129 --> 00:01:23.670
out at Hovander Park, I was out there for this one.
20
00:01:25.069 --> 00:01:30.409
5K race. Squalicum takes first place. Cedro Woolley, second. Nooksack Valley, third.
21
00:01:31.810 --> 00:01:36.640
And Squalicum, one, two, three, four placers all out. All
22
00:01:36.700 --> 00:01:40.469
Storm Runners finished first through fourth. Audrey Blue finished in first.
23
00:01:40.909 --> 00:01:46.209
Sandra Voigt, second. Dahlia Strutz, third. Heidi Knutson, fourth. Layla
24
00:01:46.230 --> 00:01:49.790
Bloomquist of Squalicum took eighth. And Anita Rogers of Nooksack
25
00:01:49.849 --> 00:01:54.930
Valley took tenth. Out at Skagit Regional Airport, there was
26
00:01:54.969 --> 00:01:59.159
another 5K race. And it was Seaholm's Avon Bates that
27
00:01:59.189 --> 00:02:03.079
took first place, followed by Claire Badgma of Linden. Michaela
28
00:02:03.120 --> 00:02:07.170
McBride of Seaholm took third. Maria Knutson Park of Seaholm
29
00:02:07.189 --> 00:02:11.180
took fourth. Audrey Dalton of Seaholm took fifth. Lucy Penner
30
00:02:11.340 --> 00:02:15.159
of Linden took sixth. Bailey Harry of Seaholm took seventh.
31
00:02:16.020 --> 00:02:21.360
Ryle Miller of Linden took eighth. Jonah Gillum of Seaholm
32
00:02:21.400 --> 00:02:25.379
took ninth. And Hazel Enfield of Linden took tenth. As
33
00:02:25.620 --> 00:02:28.379
Seaholm finished in first place in that one as a team.
34
00:02:28.879 --> 00:02:31.729
Out at the Deming Log Show Grounds, another 5K race
35
00:02:31.830 --> 00:02:38.360
as Meridian... Got the top, wow, six runners. That's pretty incredible.
36
00:02:38.419 --> 00:02:43.280
Mount Baker second, Lakewood third, Blaine fourth. Bria Remp of
37
00:02:43.340 --> 00:02:46.879
Meridian took first. Lane Dixon of Meridian second. Aerie Thompson
38
00:02:46.919 --> 00:02:51.520
took third. Adeline Nosti fourth. Ridley Struts fifth. And Lila
39
00:02:51.539 --> 00:02:55.120
Van Golen sixth, all from Meridian. Hazel Grout of Mount
40
00:02:55.159 --> 00:02:58.719
Baker took seventh. Bridger Jacoby of Mount Baker eighth. Carrie
41
00:02:58.759 --> 00:03:06.009
Balbach of Blaine took ninth. And Cassia McKimmick. Meridian took
42
00:03:06.210 --> 00:03:12.650
10th out at Linden Christian High School Bellingham wins this
43
00:03:12.889 --> 00:03:17.610
one and Nora Alexander finished in first place one second
44
00:03:17.669 --> 00:03:20.669
out of her teammate Nora Seltz Elise Holland in third
45
00:03:20.830 --> 00:03:24.150
and teammate Leah Wagner took fourth all from Bellingham fifth
46
00:03:24.189 --> 00:03:27.750
place was Larkin McConnell of Linden Christian seventh was Layla
47
00:03:27.810 --> 00:03:31.520
Melima of Linden Christian eighth Grace Wells of Bellingham ninth
48
00:03:31.599 --> 00:03:36.520
Malia Frizzle of Bellingham, and 10th was Avery Ostlund of Bellingham.
49
00:03:37.039 --> 00:03:40.099
And then out at Fort Nugent Park, it was a
50
00:03:40.500 --> 00:03:43.280
5K race. The top finisher from Whatcom County in that
51
00:03:43.360 --> 00:03:46.479
one was Ferndale's Kayla Lee, who finished in 18th place.
52
00:03:47.419 --> 00:03:50.719
On the boys' side of things, out at Hovander Park, again,
53
00:03:50.759 --> 00:03:54.719
I was out at this one, Squalicum. They take the
54
00:03:54.759 --> 00:03:59.250
top prize as they have the second-place runner in Taylor Rush,
55
00:04:00.500 --> 00:04:05.620
Fourth place, Evander Burley. Fifth place, Jack Leon. Sixth, Efren Wolfe. Seventh,
56
00:04:05.759 --> 00:04:10.759
Efren Mayer. Eighth, Kallax Jeffrey. Ninth, Parker Mason. And tenth,
57
00:04:10.919 --> 00:04:15.419
Luca Burley. So they finished with, what, eight out of
58
00:04:15.460 --> 00:04:18.139
the top ten? That's pretty incredible. So they win as
59
00:04:18.199 --> 00:04:22.360
a team. Cedra Woolley second, Nooksack Valley third. At Skagit
60
00:04:22.480 --> 00:04:26.519
Valley Airport. Another 5K race there. As a matter of fact,
61
00:04:26.560 --> 00:04:28.790
I think these are all 5Ks now. There's been a
62
00:04:28.819 --> 00:04:34.500
few 4Ks. and then the laps around Lake Padden, which
63
00:04:34.579 --> 00:04:38.600
is 2.6 miles. But this is another 5K that Seaholm
64
00:04:38.639 --> 00:04:42.139
took first place in, Lyndon second. Judson Barrett of Seaholm
65
00:04:42.160 --> 00:04:47.680
took first individually. Luke Zollner took third of Seaholm. Luke
66
00:04:47.699 --> 00:04:53.139
Skolton of Lyndon took fourth. Jack Rybsik of Seaholm took fifth.
67
00:04:53.220 --> 00:04:57.399
Aidan Batt of Seaholm sixth. Lucas Cannizzaro of Seaholm seventh.
68
00:04:57.579 --> 00:05:01.319
Jonah Burdick of Seaholm ninth. and Benjamin Havens of Seaholm
69
00:05:01.339 --> 00:05:04.199
took 10th place. Out of the Deming Log Show grounds,
70
00:05:04.360 --> 00:05:07.480
Lakewood won as a team, Meridian second, Blaine third, or
71
00:05:07.699 --> 00:05:12.050
I'm sorry, Mount Baker third, Blaine fourth. Meridian's Colton Valentine
72
00:05:12.170 --> 00:05:17.410
took individual honors in first place, Ruben Taveldi of Meridian second,
73
00:05:17.790 --> 00:05:21.750
Wesley Baalbach of Blaine took eighth, and Quentin Hernandez of
74
00:05:21.810 --> 00:05:27.259
Mount Baker took ninth. Out at Lyndon Christian Bellingham, with
75
00:05:27.399 --> 00:05:29.560
a ton of runners in the top 10 here. Jack
76
00:05:29.600 --> 00:05:33.259
Stoddard of Bellingham took second. William Sherfy of Linn and
77
00:05:33.339 --> 00:05:37.430
Christian took third. Tarver May of Bellingham, fourth. Abel Ray
78
00:05:37.439 --> 00:05:42.449
of Bellingham, fifth. Parker Osk of Bellingham, seventh. Quindry Pass
79
00:05:42.490 --> 00:05:46.009
of Bellingham, eighth. Eric Dennis of Bellingham, ninth. And Mason
80
00:05:46.029 --> 00:05:48.970
Mon of Bellingham, tenth. And then out at Fort Nugent Park,
81
00:05:49.490 --> 00:05:53.649
the top finisher for Whatcom County was Caleb Wonshak of Ferndale,
82
00:05:53.670 --> 00:05:58.160
who finished in seventh place. So there you have it
83
00:05:58.259 --> 00:06:00.699
with all the races that took place on Wednesday and
84
00:06:00.720 --> 00:06:04.829
the Stauffer Insurance Runner of the Week. You know, I
85
00:06:05.410 --> 00:06:09.689
was noticing that Sehome girls, all their top runners were
86
00:06:09.750 --> 00:06:12.629
not participating in this. They were probably out running in
87
00:06:12.670 --> 00:06:17.300
some big national event or something. But still, Sehome won
88
00:06:17.540 --> 00:06:20.079
as a team, which is pretty incredible against Linden and
89
00:06:20.100 --> 00:06:25.079
Burlington Edison. And finishing in first place by 17 seconds
90
00:06:25.160 --> 00:06:28.790
ahead of the pack. was Avon Bates of Sehome. And
91
00:06:28.870 --> 00:06:32.209
so congratulations to Avon Bates. You are the Stauffer Insurance
92
00:06:32.370 --> 00:06:37.110
Runner of the Week. All right, let's go to Boys
93
00:06:37.379 --> 00:06:41.339
Tennis now. Boys Tennis is sponsored by Curt Mayberry Farms,
94
00:06:41.459 --> 00:06:46.300
a family-growing tradition. Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. They're a fourth-generation
95
00:06:46.360 --> 00:06:50.000
family-owned and operated berry farm committed to growing the highest
96
00:06:50.100 --> 00:06:54.199
quality berries. Check them out at curtmayberryfarm.com. That's Curt with
97
00:06:54.240 --> 00:07:01.000
a C. M-A-B-E-R-R-Y farm.com. All right. So there was a
98
00:07:01.060 --> 00:07:03.839
lot of matches throughout the week. I think there was one,
99
00:07:03.920 --> 00:07:05.500
I think it was Tuesday was rained out and then
100
00:07:05.519 --> 00:07:07.839
everything just got pushed to Wednesday from that Tuesday. So
101
00:07:07.860 --> 00:07:13.490
a lot, a lot happening. They played Monday, Wednesday, Thursday,
102
00:07:13.730 --> 00:07:16.490
and Friday. So a lot of tennis that was played
103
00:07:17.269 --> 00:07:20.910
on Monday. Squalicum beat Linden six to one. Bellingham beat
104
00:07:20.970 --> 00:07:24.189
Anacortes six to one and Sehome beat Burlington Edison six
105
00:07:24.230 --> 00:07:27.149
to one. Pretty incredible there. Burlington Edison, a very, very
106
00:07:27.189 --> 00:07:29.889
good team. I think that was the Tigers' first loss
107
00:07:30.110 --> 00:07:34.629
of the season. On Wednesday, Sehome beat Anacortes 6-1. Linden
108
00:07:35.100 --> 00:07:40.000
over Burlington Edison 4-3. Squalicum beat Mount Vernon 5-2. Ferndale
109
00:07:40.060 --> 00:07:45.819
over Lakewood 6-1. And Bellingham blanks Oak Harbor 7-0. On Thursday,
110
00:07:46.319 --> 00:07:50.779
Bellingham beat Burlington Edison 7-0. Again, pretty good there. Burlington
111
00:07:50.819 --> 00:07:54.699
Edison dropping points. I think that was their third straight
112
00:07:54.759 --> 00:07:59.670
that week. Linden beat Cedar Woolley 7-0. Squalicum over Sehome
113
00:07:59.689 --> 00:08:03.430
4-3 in a great matchup there. And then Ferndale over
114
00:08:03.550 --> 00:08:08.709
Oak Harbor 4-3. And then on Friday, Linden beat Lakewood 7-0.
115
00:08:08.829 --> 00:08:13.990
Bellingham over Sehome 6-1. Squalicum beat Anacortes 6-1. And Mount
116
00:08:14.050 --> 00:08:18.879
Vernon beat Ferndale 4-3. So you look at the ratings now,
117
00:08:18.889 --> 00:08:25.980
or sorry, the standings, And Bellingham, 10-0 in conference play,
118
00:08:26.430 --> 00:08:29.430
leading the way right now. 64 courts won to just
119
00:08:29.509 --> 00:08:41.169
six loss. Squalicum, 8-1. Seaholm, 7-2. Burlington Edison, 6-3. Mount Vernon, 6-5. Linden, 5-4. Anacortes, 3-5. Ferndale, 3-7.
120
00:08:41.659 --> 00:08:45.340
Oak Harbor, 2-8. Cedar Woolley, 1-8. And Lakewood still looking
121
00:08:45.720 --> 00:08:49.960
for their first win. There's a really, really cool website
122
00:08:50.899 --> 00:08:56.210
that has been designed. by Brian Lynch and Andrew Robinson.
123
00:08:56.529 --> 00:08:58.700
And this is a really cool deal where it's, it's
124
00:08:58.860 --> 00:09:04.000
actually taking the count every single thing about boys tennis
125
00:09:04.779 --> 00:09:09.320
and it's creating rankings for each player. So this is
126
00:09:09.360 --> 00:09:11.960
a really cool deal. So I can talk about this
127
00:09:12.559 --> 00:09:15.620
on the podcast, which is awesome. And right now it
128
00:09:15.659 --> 00:09:20.159
has the top 10 players in the conference rank. So
129
00:09:20.179 --> 00:09:23.039
we're going to start at number 10 and moved up.
130
00:09:23.059 --> 00:09:27.580
These are just singles players. So Gabe Harrison has an
131
00:09:27.600 --> 00:09:31.110
8-2 record, and he is ranked 10th out of Squalicum.
132
00:09:32.610 --> 00:09:36.169
Eighth place is Wesley Miller of Bellingham. He's 4-0 in
133
00:09:36.210 --> 00:09:41.549
singles competition. Ranked seventh is Nolan Dickinson of Bellingham. He's
134
00:09:41.570 --> 00:09:44.759
got a record of 9-2. In sixth place is Noah
135
00:09:44.840 --> 00:09:47.419
Schmidt of Squalicum. He's got a record of 9-2. In
136
00:09:48.700 --> 00:09:52.549
fifth place is Bronco Cook. who's also from Bellingham, he
137
00:09:52.610 --> 00:09:55.480
is undefeated with a record of 11-0. But the reason
138
00:09:55.519 --> 00:09:58.730
why he's, you know, there's players that have losses ahead
139
00:09:58.750 --> 00:10:01.980
of him is because based on who he's played against
140
00:10:02.029 --> 00:10:04.049
and stuff like that. That's why this ranking system is
141
00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:07.740
a really cool deal. In fourth place, or ranked fourth,
142
00:10:07.779 --> 00:10:10.539
I should say, is Squalicum's Ben On, who's got a
143
00:10:10.580 --> 00:10:16.879
record of 9-2. In third place, it's Michael Yeh of
144
00:10:17.039 --> 00:10:20.769
Sehome with a record of 10-1. And then the top-ranked
145
00:10:20.850 --> 00:10:24.639
player in Whatcom County is Leo Kuhn, who is 10-0
146
00:10:24.799 --> 00:10:28.059
on the season, the defending state champion. And then in
147
00:10:28.139 --> 00:10:31.879
doubles players, it doesn't necessarily have the doubles teams. It's
148
00:10:31.899 --> 00:10:37.139
just individual doubles players. And there's a lot of them
149
00:10:37.299 --> 00:10:40.210
that are outside of Whatcom County that are in the
150
00:10:40.269 --> 00:10:45.269
top 10. But a tie for sixth place is Braylon
151
00:10:45.330 --> 00:10:49.370
Savage and Luke Swanson, both of Squalicum. And then in
152
00:10:49.519 --> 00:10:53.210
fourth place is Hudson Daughters of Squalicum. Third place is
153
00:10:53.330 --> 00:10:57.590
Jack Gabbart of Bellingham. And the top doubles player is
154
00:10:57.669 --> 00:11:01.070
Wesley Miller of Bellingham. So it's a really, really cool
155
00:11:01.769 --> 00:11:04.600
project that these guys are working on. And it gives
156
00:11:04.740 --> 00:11:07.779
great insight for boys tennis. I'm sure they'll have it
157
00:11:07.820 --> 00:11:10.740
for girls tennis as well in the spring. So really,
158
00:11:10.759 --> 00:11:13.480
really cool deal. And it's something that I think a
159
00:11:13.539 --> 00:11:15.519
lot of people are going to start using from around
160
00:11:15.559 --> 00:11:18.799
the state, stuff like that, which is, which is fantastic.
161
00:11:18.860 --> 00:11:21.179
I think it's going to be a great way to
162
00:11:21.539 --> 00:11:25.570
go moving forward. All right, let's talk girls swimming and diving,
163
00:11:25.590 --> 00:11:28.169
which is brought to you by Fairhaven College at Western
164
00:11:28.230 --> 00:11:34.429
Washington University. Their commitment to transformative, creative, inquiry-based learning empowers
165
00:11:34.450 --> 00:11:40.149
students to pursue social, economic, and environmental justice. It's the
166
00:11:40.250 --> 00:11:47.649
Fairhaven difference. Go visit them online at fairhaven.wwu.edu. And one
167
00:11:47.669 --> 00:11:50.659
of the big things that happened this past week was
168
00:11:50.720 --> 00:11:54.980
the Northwest Conference invite where all the teams got together
169
00:11:55.019 --> 00:11:57.379
and had like this big, it's basically, you know, just
170
00:11:58.220 --> 00:12:01.159
the Northwest Conference championships, if you want to call it that.
171
00:12:01.620 --> 00:12:06.129
All the teams got together and swam against each other.
172
00:12:06.149 --> 00:12:08.710
I heard that there was a lot of athletes that
173
00:12:08.750 --> 00:12:12.740
were out due to sickness, but still, it's probably a
174
00:12:12.740 --> 00:12:16.240
good ranking that we have. Anna Cordes took first place
175
00:12:16.279 --> 00:12:20.779
with 310 points. Bellingham was second, Mount Vernon third, Linden fourth,
176
00:12:21.220 --> 00:12:25.659
Squalicum fifth, Seaholm sixth, Oak Harbor seventh, Burlington Edison eighth,
177
00:12:25.720 --> 00:12:30.889
Ferndale ninth, and Coopville tenth. In each event, I'm just
178
00:12:30.909 --> 00:12:33.470
going to, you know, every week I talk about, you know,
179
00:12:33.529 --> 00:12:36.850
who's got the best time to this point, but I'm
180
00:12:36.889 --> 00:12:40.750
just going to basically talk about this event here. And
181
00:12:40.789 --> 00:12:45.440
if you look at it, we're going to talk each
182
00:12:45.500 --> 00:12:47.899
event and who took first place or who was the
183
00:12:47.940 --> 00:12:53.320
highest placing out of Whatcom County. So in the 200-yard
184
00:12:53.559 --> 00:12:57.330
medley relay, it was the Bellingham team of Carmody Beattie,
185
00:12:57.470 --> 00:13:01.929
Amanda Buck, Jasmine Garcia, and Jordan Ebeling. They took first place.
186
00:13:02.789 --> 00:13:08.549
In the 200-yard freestyle, in third place was Lyndon's Madeline Honkoop.
187
00:13:09.610 --> 00:13:15.179
And the... 200-yard individual medley, Jordan Ebeling of Bellingham. She
188
00:13:15.220 --> 00:13:19.679
took first place there. In the 50-yard freestyle, Jasmine Garcia
189
00:13:19.740 --> 00:13:24.159
of Bellingham took first place. In the– boy, there's a
190
00:13:25.139 --> 00:13:28.340
lot of swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle. There were 71
191
00:13:28.340 --> 00:13:33.899
swimmers in that. That's pretty crazy. In the 100-yard butterfly,
192
00:13:33.980 --> 00:13:38.799
the top-placing athlete from Whatcom County was Claire Thompson of Sehome,
193
00:13:38.820 --> 00:13:43.110
who finished in fifth place. In the 100-yard freestyle, Jasmine
194
00:13:43.149 --> 00:13:47.169
Garcia of Bellingham took second place. And, of course, a
195
00:13:47.210 --> 00:13:49.220
lot of swimmers in that one, too. Looks like 61
196
00:13:49.220 --> 00:13:54.860
of them. 500-yard freestyle. This is the big one. Jordan
197
00:13:55.039 --> 00:14:00.240
Ebeling of Bellingham took first place. She was 12 seconds
198
00:14:00.299 --> 00:14:03.039
ahead of the next swimmer, so very good job there.
199
00:14:03.070 --> 00:14:09.570
200-yard freestyle relay. It was the Linden team of Claire Fleming-Butella,
200
00:14:09.730 --> 00:14:15.419
Avery Rutledge, Xochitl Jobes, and Madeline Honkoop. They took second place.
201
00:14:16.259 --> 00:14:20.100
And in the 100-yard backstroke, it was Amanda Buck of
202
00:14:20.159 --> 00:14:25.909
Bellingham who took third place. And the 100-yard breaststroke, Squalicum
203
00:14:26.029 --> 00:14:33.009
Soleil Rubito took first place. And in the 400-yard freestyle relay,
204
00:14:33.070 --> 00:14:35.610
the Bellingham team, and it's the same swimmers again, it
205
00:14:35.629 --> 00:14:39.889
looks like Jordan Ebeling, Carmody Beatty, Amanda Buck, and Jasmine Garcia,
206
00:14:39.970 --> 00:14:43.259
they took first place. And then in the diving results,
207
00:14:44.019 --> 00:14:47.980
it was Fiona Runnels of Sehome that had the highest
208
00:14:48.240 --> 00:14:53.929
score 174.95. So that's how it went. Um, as far
209
00:14:54.190 --> 00:14:58.389
as just that meet on Saturday went and a lot
210
00:14:58.429 --> 00:15:01.389
of swimming still left to go about another month of
211
00:15:01.470 --> 00:15:04.299
it or so. And then there'll be post season and
212
00:15:04.379 --> 00:15:09.039
state and all that stuff. And, And yeah, really, really
213
00:15:09.110 --> 00:15:11.990
fun to follow that all year and be able to
214
00:15:12.029 --> 00:15:15.610
continue to keep up with it. In girls soccer, we're
215
00:15:15.629 --> 00:15:17.610
going to move to girls soccer now. And of course,
216
00:15:17.629 --> 00:15:20.950
girls soccer sponsored by North County Alliance FC. Visit them
217
00:15:21.049 --> 00:15:28.889
online at ncaliancefc.com for all sorts of different levels, club, competitive, recreation.
218
00:15:29.490 --> 00:15:32.889
Look for dates to sign up by, age registration, all
219
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:35.850
that stuff. And, you know, get your little one out
220
00:15:35.889 --> 00:15:39.000
there playing soccer the best way they can. And the
221
00:15:39.059 --> 00:15:41.779
way to do it is through North County Alliance FC.
222
00:15:42.419 --> 00:15:44.120
We're going to take a look at the scores from
223
00:15:44.159 --> 00:15:48.340
this past week here. On Tuesday, Mount Baker beat Blaine 1-0.
224
00:15:48.519 --> 00:15:51.480
It was the first time they beat Blaine in nine years.
225
00:15:51.559 --> 00:15:54.049
So Mount Baker definitely on the up and up here
226
00:15:54.110 --> 00:15:56.769
as sophomore Macy Kamanga scored the lone goal of the
227
00:15:56.850 --> 00:16:00.169
game in the second half on an assist from Kalen Neely.
228
00:16:00.549 --> 00:16:06.379
Nooksack Valley beat Meridian 4-3. And great job there by
229
00:16:06.419 --> 00:16:09.320
the Pioneers. You know, these two teams, Mount Baker and
230
00:16:09.379 --> 00:16:13.539
Nooksack Valley, their improvement has been rapid from last year
231
00:16:13.570 --> 00:16:16.610
to this year. So it's really cool to see everybody
232
00:16:16.629 --> 00:16:18.590
kind of in the mix of things there. Ferndale beat
233
00:16:18.669 --> 00:16:23.970
Oak Harbor 3-2. Bellingham beat Burlington Edison 3-1 on a
234
00:16:24.049 --> 00:16:26.779
hat trick from Sophia Dion. She's usually the one getting
235
00:16:26.820 --> 00:16:29.480
a ton of assists, but she flipped the script there
236
00:16:29.519 --> 00:16:32.210
and scored all three goals in that game. Squalicum beat
237
00:16:32.230 --> 00:16:35.870
Linden 4-3, and Sehome and Anacortes came away with a
238
00:16:35.889 --> 00:16:43.149
2-2 tie. On Thursday, Sehome, they beat Squalicum 4-1. Meridian
239
00:16:43.190 --> 00:16:46.889
beat Blaine 1-0. Tough week for the Borderites with two losses,
240
00:16:46.970 --> 00:16:51.740
both of them being 1-0 against the Northwest Conference 1A opponents.
241
00:16:52.159 --> 00:16:56.330
Bellingham beat Lakewood 1-0. Linden Christian blanked Nooksack Valley 4-0.
242
00:16:57.559 --> 00:17:02.230
Ferndale beat Mount Vernon 3-0. Granite Falls over Mount Baker 2-1.
243
00:17:02.610 --> 00:17:06.730
And Brompton Edison beat Linden 2-0. And then on Saturday,
244
00:17:06.750 --> 00:17:09.710
a couple losses for Whatcom County against some pretty good teams.
245
00:17:09.769 --> 00:17:13.990
Nooksack Valley went down south, lost to Kings 5-1. And
246
00:17:14.019 --> 00:17:16.920
then Bush came to town and beat Linden Christian 2-1
247
00:17:17.119 --> 00:17:21.140
in a matchup of a couple teams with playoff aspirations there.
248
00:17:21.680 --> 00:17:24.160
So if we take a look at the soccer standings
249
00:17:24.240 --> 00:17:27.809
right now, Ferndale, they've won seven in a row. And
250
00:17:27.930 --> 00:17:31.910
they are 7-1 on the season. They are 5-0 at home.
251
00:17:32.509 --> 00:17:34.569
So they are really on a tear right now, as
252
00:17:34.650 --> 00:17:38.849
is Bellingham, who is eight wins, zero losses, and two ties.
253
00:17:38.910 --> 00:17:43.849
But at home, they are 5-0 Seaholm. They are 7-1-2,
254
00:17:44.529 --> 00:17:47.970
and they are 5-0-1 at home. Those three teams are
255
00:17:48.019 --> 00:17:51.519
really standing out right now in Whatcom County. Squalicum, 6-2-2.
256
00:17:53.420 --> 00:17:56.859
Linden Christian is 6-4. They are 3-2 at home and
257
00:17:56.880 --> 00:18:01.259
3-2 on the road. Meridian, 7-5 on the year. Mount Baker, 4-3.
258
00:18:01.359 --> 00:18:06.900
They are 4-1 at home. Nooksack Valley is 4-5-1. Linden
259
00:18:06.960 --> 00:18:11.369
is 4-7 as they've dropped four straight now. And Blaine
260
00:18:11.680 --> 00:18:15.809
is 2-6-1 after going out to a great start. They
261
00:18:15.829 --> 00:18:19.400
have lost six in a row. So... That's too bad
262
00:18:19.440 --> 00:18:21.980
for the borderites. They're going to get things going in
263
00:18:22.000 --> 00:18:24.859
the right direction here. We take a look at the
264
00:18:25.039 --> 00:18:28.160
goal leaders now, and we're going to do the top 10.
265
00:18:28.160 --> 00:18:30.309
We have a two-way tie for ninth place with seven
266
00:18:30.369 --> 00:18:34.170
goals each. That's Tegan Ambrose of Ferndale and Avery Warnock
267
00:18:34.329 --> 00:18:37.670
of Meridian. And then a big, there's a huge tie
268
00:18:37.710 --> 00:18:40.769
for second place. Lots of players with eight goals on
269
00:18:40.789 --> 00:18:45.089
the season. Sophia Dionne of Bellingham, Kylie Ivcevic of Sehome,
270
00:18:45.150 --> 00:18:49.650
Vivian Moss of Sehome. Kaylin Hinton of Linden Christian, Luz
271
00:18:49.710 --> 00:18:53.210
Lane of Meridian, Mia Collins of Ferndale, and Addie Wilson
272
00:18:53.230 --> 00:18:56.650
of Squalicum all have eight goals on the year. And
273
00:18:56.670 --> 00:18:59.680
then leading the way with 16 goals so far this
274
00:18:59.700 --> 00:19:03.420
year is the freshman from Meridian, Ella Kratsoff. If we
275
00:19:03.480 --> 00:19:08.319
go to the assist leaders, there is a one, two, three,
276
00:19:08.539 --> 00:19:12.720
six-way tie for first place. Sophia Dionne, Vivian Moss, Kaylin Hinton,
277
00:19:13.160 --> 00:19:16.839
Luz Lane, and Mila Kratsov and Sophia Guzman all have
278
00:19:16.980 --> 00:19:19.890
five assists on the year. And what's crazy is that
279
00:19:19.950 --> 00:19:22.130
those four, those first four are named all have eight
280
00:19:22.190 --> 00:19:24.650
goals on the year. So that's really doing it in
281
00:19:24.789 --> 00:19:28.970
every single way. Let's see if we can see. Yeah,
282
00:19:28.990 --> 00:19:32.539
there is another five players with four assists so far
283
00:19:32.579 --> 00:19:35.500
on the year. Hannah Wynn of Ferndale, Lexi Yoon of
284
00:19:35.539 --> 00:19:39.819
Linnik Christian, Sophie Koch of Bellingham, Maya Reed of Seaholm
285
00:19:39.920 --> 00:19:44.400
and Siri Hoagland of Squalicum all have four assists on
286
00:19:44.440 --> 00:19:47.539
the year. So very excited to keep track of assists
287
00:19:48.380 --> 00:19:52.119
this year. And, boy, you take a look at the
288
00:19:52.220 --> 00:19:55.859
player of the week, and there were some really, really
289
00:19:55.940 --> 00:19:58.880
good performances. It's, you know, with the 1As, now they're
290
00:19:58.900 --> 00:20:00.839
starting to play each other. All the conference stuff is
291
00:20:00.859 --> 00:20:03.029
starting to happen. So things are starting to.
292
00:20:03.009 --> 00:20:06.190
Get a little crazier. Kaylin Hinton had a great week.
293
00:20:06.289 --> 00:20:08.789
Mia Collins had a great week. Vivian Moss had a
294
00:20:08.849 --> 00:20:15.589
great week. but I am going with Sophia Dion of Bellingham,
295
00:20:15.650 --> 00:20:19.109
you know, getting that, getting the three goals against Burlington
296
00:20:19.250 --> 00:20:22.690
Edison was huge. And that three to one win Burlington Edison,
297
00:20:22.730 --> 00:20:26.269
pretty good team. And, and then, you know, she was a.
298
00:20:26.450 --> 00:20:28.960
Big part of the one zero win over Lakewood too. So,
299
00:20:29.390 --> 00:20:32.430
Bellingham's still the only team in the conference without a
300
00:20:32.529 --> 00:20:34.710
loss so far. They do have two ties.
301
00:20:35.319 --> 00:20:39.079
But a very good job by the Bayhawks, led by
302
00:20:39.160 --> 00:20:39.940
Sophia Dion.
303
00:20:39.960 --> 00:20:43.599
So congratulations, Sophia Dion. You are the North County Alliance
304
00:20:43.839 --> 00:20:49.960
FC Player of the Week. And now let's go to volleyball.
305
00:20:50.000 --> 00:20:52.359
And the daily recaps are brought to you by the

313
00:21:24.109 --> 00:21:33.460
And we're going to check out the scores here from
314
00:21:33.500 --> 00:21:38.109
this past week. On Monday, some big volleyball being played there.
315
00:21:38.250 --> 00:21:41.630
Mount Baker getting the win over Blaine. Three sets to zero. 25-12, 25-17,
316
00:21:41.650 --> 00:21:43.009
and 25-10. And we're going to check out the scores
317
00:21:43.029 --> 00:21:46.410
here from this past week. I was at this game,
318
00:21:46.470 --> 00:21:48.509
and it was a big deal. It was a big
319
00:21:48.529 --> 00:21:50.890
deal for the Mountaineers to get the win here as
320
00:21:51.190 --> 00:21:53.670
they picked up their first conference win in four years
321
00:21:53.690 --> 00:21:56.069
and their first win against Blaine in five years. So
322
00:21:56.130 --> 00:22:00.869
Mount Baker definitely on the rise here. Linden beat Squalicum
323
00:22:00.890 --> 00:22:05.049
3-0 as Squalicum's five-game winning streak came to an end.
324
00:22:06.730 --> 00:22:08.700
But that's just kind of the way it goes with
325
00:22:08.720 --> 00:22:11.339
the Lions. They were led by Hadley Lamp, who had
326
00:22:11.359 --> 00:22:16.099
a career-high 15 digs. And then Ferndale, they defeated Oak
327
00:22:16.119 --> 00:22:20.640
Harbor 3-0 in three straight sets. Svetlana Badek was on
328
00:22:20.680 --> 00:22:22.980
target all night, and she finished with 20 kills to
329
00:22:23.019 --> 00:22:28.190
go with her nine digs and also a 500 hitting percentage. Great,
330
00:22:28.250 --> 00:22:31.049
great job by the Golden Eagles there. Then we go
331
00:22:31.250 --> 00:22:34.970
on to Tuesday, where Meridian beat Nooksack Valley 3-1 in
332
00:22:35.009 --> 00:22:39.069
a great matchup every single year. These two have awesome matches.
333
00:22:39.150 --> 00:22:41.329
I don't know if they've ever played each other where
334
00:22:41.349 --> 00:22:44.390
it only went three sets. Um, I remember last year
335
00:22:44.410 --> 00:22:46.230
in the regular season and went five sets. This one
336
00:22:46.269 --> 00:22:49.119
went four sets. I was out there for a big
337
00:22:49.180 --> 00:22:51.839
chunk of it. I had to hurry up and get back, um,
338
00:22:52.000 --> 00:22:54.240
to do an interview with a, with, with a coach
339
00:22:54.359 --> 00:22:58.150
on zoom. So I needed to leave early. Um, but
340
00:22:58.190 --> 00:23:06.349
it was, it was every single, every or I should
341
00:23:06.390 --> 00:23:08.509
say it was at Nooksack Valley, but the Trojans came
342
00:23:08.569 --> 00:23:14.190
away by winning the first two, 25-23 and then 28-26.
343
00:23:14.730 --> 00:23:16.859
So very close there. Nooksack Valley came back to take
344
00:23:16.900 --> 00:23:20.500
the third set, 25-21, and Meridian closed it with a
345
00:23:20.519 --> 00:23:25.359
25-22 win. And the big one here for Meridian was
346
00:23:25.460 --> 00:23:29.960
Sierra James. She had a career-high eight blocks. And if
347
00:23:30.000 --> 00:23:33.609
you get eight blocks– in a match that is, I,
348
00:23:34.349 --> 00:23:36.569
I don't know if I've seen that before. I think
349
00:23:36.609 --> 00:23:39.240
I've seen five or six, a handful of times. I
350
00:23:39.259 --> 00:23:42.150
don't know. I don't know if I've ever seen eight. So, uh,
351
00:23:42.240 --> 00:23:44.640
she really had that, that timing down. And of course,
352
00:23:44.680 --> 00:23:47.619
Melanie short at another huge game, 23 kills, 10 digs,
353
00:23:48.059 --> 00:23:53.269
three aces. Um, and then, uh, the Nookside Valley was
354
00:23:53.329 --> 00:23:57.309
led by Finley Mitchell, Elizabeth Delang, Allie Reynolds, Kendall Jurgens,
355
00:23:57.369 --> 00:24:02.430
Mallory Mason, Carson only kind of the main players there. So, Meridian, though,
356
00:24:02.490 --> 00:24:05.839
picks up the big win there over Nooksack Valley. Sehome,
357
00:24:05.859 --> 00:24:08.980
they defeated Anacortes 3-0 to move up to 6-2 on
358
00:24:09.000 --> 00:24:12.180
the year. Paige Flory had another huge game. Radler Rossellison
359
00:24:12.539 --> 00:24:15.960
with a double-double. Jackie Hurley doing her thing on defense.
360
00:24:16.779 --> 00:24:19.720
And Bellingham beat Burlington Edison for the first time in
361
00:24:19.720 --> 00:24:24.720
10 years as Estelle Oaks, she was all over the
362
00:24:24.759 --> 00:24:27.880
court with 11 kills, 11 digs, and two aces. And
363
00:24:27.920 --> 00:24:33.460
Bailey Burge, again, ton of digs. and three aces as well.
364
00:24:33.480 --> 00:24:36.450
On Wednesday, the lone match was down in Mount Vernon,
365
00:24:36.509 --> 00:24:39.470
so of course I made the trek down there. As
366
00:24:39.529 --> 00:24:42.069
Ferndale went down there and took it in three straight sets,
367
00:24:43.089 --> 00:24:50.190
winning 25-19, and then the next two were both 25-17,
368
00:24:50.630 --> 00:24:53.650
Brooklyn Larrabee again had a great time setting up her
369
00:24:53.690 --> 00:24:57.880
hitters to the tune of 35 assists, and Svetlana Badak,
370
00:24:57.980 --> 00:25:01.920
she had 16 kills on the night, Teodubey Had 11 kills.
371
00:25:02.019 --> 00:25:05.900
They also combined for five aces. And Ashley Pedig had
372
00:25:05.900 --> 00:25:09.269
12 digs. So great overall team win by Ferndale there.
373
00:25:09.680 --> 00:25:13.849
And they have just been on a roll recently. On Thursday,
374
00:25:13.869 --> 00:25:16.950
a lot of volleyball being played there. I was out
375
00:25:16.970 --> 00:25:19.869
at Squalicum and I saw Sehome defeat Squalicum. Three sets
376
00:25:19.910 --> 00:25:22.809
to zero. Kind of getting them back from last year
377
00:25:22.849 --> 00:25:27.910
as Squalicum upset the Mariners last season. And Sehome... And see,
378
00:25:27.990 --> 00:25:30.500
I came away with this one here. Paige Flory had
379
00:25:30.519 --> 00:25:33.799
another huge game with 18 kills, 14 digs, and three aces.
380
00:25:34.359 --> 00:25:39.200
Radley Rossellison had another double-double. Taylor Terrell, 37 assists. And
381
00:25:39.259 --> 00:25:42.210
Jackie Hurley with another 14 digs. And Catherine Staten, who's
382
00:25:42.230 --> 00:25:44.750
been playing a lot more as of late, she had
383
00:25:44.829 --> 00:25:48.490
four kills and a game-high two-and-a-half block. So congratulations to her.
384
00:25:49.089 --> 00:25:52.339
Squalicum was led by senior Bronwyn Jones, who finished with
385
00:25:52.339 --> 00:25:55.299
20 digs, and senior Alyssa Rosselli, who added seven digs
386
00:25:55.380 --> 00:26:01.319
and 13 assists. Bellingham, they beat Lakewood 3-1. Hensley Hurlburt
387
00:26:01.380 --> 00:26:03.559
had the biggest game of her young varsity career. She
388
00:26:03.599 --> 00:26:07.779
finished with 12 kills, 19 digs, and a whopping 9 aces.
389
00:26:08.279 --> 00:26:11.470
Morgan Brennan had a career-high 30 assists as well. So
390
00:26:12.329 --> 00:26:15.190
great overall job by Bellingham as they're really starting to
391
00:26:15.230 --> 00:26:18.569
come together now and play extremely well. Meridian beat Blaine
392
00:26:18.630 --> 00:26:21.990
three sets to zero. Again, Melanie Short slammed home a
393
00:26:22.029 --> 00:26:25.069
whopping 23 kills. and did it in an efficient way
394
00:26:25.130 --> 00:26:29.230
as she posted a 538 hitting percentage. Amelia Koning had
395
00:26:29.269 --> 00:26:33.049
a team-high 12 digs, and senior Eden Bernardi had five
396
00:26:33.150 --> 00:26:40.079
aces and nine digs. Linden over Burlington Edison 3-0, and
397
00:26:40.119 --> 00:26:44.319
it wasn't even close, 25-8, 25-10, and 25-9. And when
398
00:26:44.480 --> 00:26:48.940
Izzy Steffen wasn't blocking Burlington Edison kill attempts, she was
399
00:26:49.000 --> 00:26:51.759
busy running the offense with 39 assists to go with
400
00:26:51.799 --> 00:26:55.329
those four blocks that she had. followed closely by Brooke McDonald,
401
00:26:55.369 --> 00:26:59.769
who had two blocks. Lyndon Christian over Nooksack Valley, three
402
00:26:59.849 --> 00:27:02.289
sets to zero, and Lyndon Christian's playing without some of
403
00:27:02.309 --> 00:27:05.710
their key players, but Jocelyn Eslice led Elsie with nine kills,
404
00:27:05.809 --> 00:27:08.690
four aces, and two blocks, and Ellie Pierce was close
405
00:27:08.730 --> 00:27:12.470
behind with eight kills and two aces herself. Nooksack Valley
406
00:27:12.509 --> 00:27:14.710
was led by Finley Mitchell, who had 13 assists and
407
00:27:14.799 --> 00:27:17.720
nine digs, and Elizabeth DeLange, who finished with seven kills
408
00:27:17.900 --> 00:27:22.529
and two blocks. So, we look at, after all that,
409
00:27:22.589 --> 00:27:25.029
we look at the standings now, and of course, Linden
410
00:27:25.069 --> 00:27:28.750
leading the way. They're 10-0 to start the season. They've
411
00:27:28.789 --> 00:27:32.190
only played three matches at home. They've been on the road,
412
00:27:32.279 --> 00:27:35.420
as of late. Ferndale, they dropped their opening match. That
413
00:27:35.440 --> 00:27:37.599
was to Linden, and they've won six in a row
414
00:27:37.619 --> 00:27:42.200
since then, so they're 6-1. Cedric Woolley's 5-1. Seaholm, 7-2,
415
00:27:42.220 --> 00:27:44.849
as they've won three in a row. Linden Christian is 5-2.
416
00:27:45.420 --> 00:27:50.460
Squalicum went from 6-1 to 6-3, but still doing very well. Meridian,
417
00:27:50.500 --> 00:27:54.619
they started 0-3, and now they're 5-3 on the year. Bellingham,
418
00:27:54.720 --> 00:27:57.460
they've won two in a row. They're now 4-5. Mount Baker, 2-3.
419
00:27:57.509 --> 00:28:02.130
Nooksack Valley, 3-5. And Blaine still looking for their first
420
00:28:02.210 --> 00:28:04.990
win of the season. Well, let's take a look at
421
00:28:05.029 --> 00:28:07.250
the stat leaders now, which is brought to you by
422
00:28:07.269 --> 00:28:12.609
Apex Northwest Volleyball. The Apex Northwest Volleyball Club utilizes competitive

resources to To pursue volleyball at the next level, check
425
00:28:21.049 --> 00:28:27.559
them out at apexnwvolleyballclub.org. All right, let's take a look
426
00:28:27.599 --> 00:28:29.039
at this now. We're going to start off, as we
427
00:28:29.059 --> 00:28:31.920
always do, with kills per set. Melanie Short, a Meridian,
428
00:28:32.299 --> 00:28:36.019
still leading the way at 5.59 kills per set. She
429
00:28:36.059 --> 00:28:39.599
is followed by Finley Parcher of Linden, Svetlana Badak of Ferndale,
430
00:28:39.680 --> 00:28:43.519
Paige Flory of Seaham, and Elizabeth Delang of Nooksack Valley.
431
00:28:43.539 --> 00:28:47.869
It's been pretty much those guys. Players Jocelyn Essice is close.
432
00:28:48.029 --> 00:28:52.700
Taya Dubé, Eden Bernardi, Lexi Hermannutz, and Rebecca Soares all
433
00:28:52.740 --> 00:28:55.980
finish out the top 10 there. And digs per set,
434
00:28:56.039 --> 00:28:59.660
Bailey Burge leading the way, 4.83 digs per set. She
435
00:28:59.700 --> 00:29:03.390
is followed by Jackie Hurley of Seaholm, Bronwyn Jones of Squalicum,
436
00:29:03.490 --> 00:29:08.089
Peyton Zender of Mount Baker, and Svetlana Badak of Ferndale.
437
00:29:08.960 --> 00:29:12.420
And let's go to assists per set. Brooklyn Larrabee of
438
00:29:12.480 --> 00:29:16.720
Ferndale still hovering right over 10 assists per set. Izzy
439
00:29:16.759 --> 00:29:20.640
Steffen really close there at 9.9. Taylor Terrell in third.
440
00:29:20.700 --> 00:29:24.099
She's from Seaholm. Kendall Stacey of Meridian in fourth. And
441
00:29:24.180 --> 00:29:29.069
Finley Mitchell of Nooksack Valley in fifth. And let's go
442
00:29:29.150 --> 00:29:33.990
to aces per set. Eden Bernardi leading the way at 1.18
443
00:29:33.990 --> 00:29:39.200
aces per set. Radha Rossellus in 1.03 from Sehome. Lyndon
444
00:29:39.220 --> 00:29:45.779
Christian's Taya Vandercoy at 0.87. Hadley Grovo of Sehome at 0.79.
445
00:29:45.779 --> 00:29:49.539
And Hensley Hurlburt of Bellingham, she makes it into the
446
00:29:49.579 --> 00:29:53.630
top five here at 0.77. And then in blocks per
447
00:29:53.670 --> 00:29:56.549
set leading the way, Rebecca Soares of Mount Baker, 0.73 aces.
448
00:29:58.329 --> 00:30:03.039
blocks per set. Izzy Stephan of Linden, 0.61. Jocelyn Essice
449
00:30:03.390 --> 00:30:09.319
of Linden Christian, 0.59. Avery the A-Train Kettman from Squalicum, 0.55.
450
00:30:09.319 --> 00:30:14.940
And Sierra James of Meridian at 0.49 blocks per set.
451
00:30:15.819 --> 00:30:20.880
So it's time to look at the players of the week.
452
00:30:21.119 --> 00:30:22.680
The offensive player of the week is brought to you
453
00:30:22.700 --> 00:30:27.690
by Angar Home Comfort. And boy, There were a lot
454
00:30:27.750 --> 00:30:32.119
of players that were up for this. I mean, oh, man.
455
00:30:32.319 --> 00:30:35.859
Melanie Short had another huge week. Paige Flory had a
456
00:30:35.920 --> 00:30:41.259
huge week. You know, Radley Rossellison had another big week.
457
00:30:41.559 --> 00:30:45.900
But I'm going with Svetlana Badak of Ferndale, keeping that
458
00:30:45.960 --> 00:30:49.420
winning streak alive and seeing what she did against these
459
00:30:49.480 --> 00:30:53.549
other 3A teams. And she's really on a roll right now.
460
00:30:53.589 --> 00:30:57.089
So congratulations, Svetlana. To Ferndale Senior Svetlana Badak, you are
461
00:30:57.109 --> 00:31:01.809
the ANGAR Home Comfort Offensive Player of the Week. And
462
00:31:01.890 --> 00:31:03.549
the Defensive Player of the Week is brought to you
463
00:31:03.569 --> 00:31:06.250
by Acceleration Driving School. And if you have a team
464
00:31:06.289 --> 00:31:08.579

471
00:31:28.170 --> 00:31:42.529
That's E-X-C-E-L, accelerationdrivingschool.com. Defensive player of the week, I thought
472
00:31:42.589 --> 00:31:45.670
Peyton Zender from Mount Baker had– they only played in
473
00:31:45.829 --> 00:31:47.970
one game, but getting that win was huge, and she
474
00:31:48.009 --> 00:31:51.130
was all over the court. She's moved her way into
475
00:31:51.150 --> 00:31:53.509
the top five in digs per set. I thought she
476
00:31:53.529 --> 00:31:55.650
had a great week. I thought Izzy Steffen had a
477
00:31:55.710 --> 00:32:00.000
great week defensively, but I'm giving this one to Meridian
478
00:32:00.099 --> 00:32:03.519
Sierra James. She had eight blocks against Nooksack Valley and
479
00:32:03.559 --> 00:32:07.720
then picked up another few later in the week against
480
00:32:07.799 --> 00:32:11.509
Blaine and– She just had a monster week. But that
481
00:32:11.609 --> 00:32:15.130
game against Nooksack Valley was one for the ages. So
482
00:32:15.170 --> 00:32:18.950
congratulations to Sierra James of Meridian. You are the Acceleration
483
00:32:19.009 --> 00:32:23.150
Driving School Defensive Player of the Week. All right, let's
484
00:32:23.210 --> 00:32:25.609
take a look at the upcoming week. The big, big
485
00:32:25.690 --> 00:32:28.170
matches to take a look for and games and all
486
00:32:28.269 --> 00:32:31.680
events and all those kinds of things. Monday night volleyball,
487
00:32:31.880 --> 00:32:35.880
Lyndon Christian at Meridian, 7 o'clock. That's going to be
488
00:32:35.900 --> 00:32:38.650
a good one. The way things are kind of– happening
489
00:32:38.690 --> 00:32:41.329
right now, those look to be the top two 1A
490
00:32:41.549 --> 00:32:45.269
teams in Northwest Conference, so I would expect that one
491
00:32:45.309 --> 00:32:50.279
to maybe go a few extra, you know, might go
492
00:32:50.299 --> 00:32:53.059
a few extra sets, might go four or five sets,
493
00:32:53.660 --> 00:32:57.420
and that'd be really cool. Those are the two teams
494
00:32:57.440 --> 00:32:59.180
that made it out of 1A last year to go
495
00:32:59.200 --> 00:33:01.500
to the state tournament. It looks like it might be
496
00:33:01.539 --> 00:33:03.500
the same again this year, so look for a really
497
00:33:03.579 --> 00:33:08.769
great matchup there. Really excited to see Melanie Short trying
498
00:33:08.809 --> 00:33:11.130
to knock them home and see Jocelyn Essise try to
499
00:33:11.170 --> 00:33:13.569
block them. So I think that's going to be a really,
500
00:33:13.609 --> 00:33:16.910
really fun matchup there. On Tuesday, Tuesdays and Thursdays are
501
00:33:16.950 --> 00:33:19.210
always loaded with a lot of stuff. So on Tuesday,
502
00:33:19.569 --> 00:33:22.930
get ready for this. Girls Swimming, Bellingham at Linden at
503
00:33:22.970 --> 00:33:27.759
the Forge Pool. That'll be at 3.30. And I believe
504
00:33:28.119 --> 00:33:31.259
there's no diving board there. So that will limit Bellingham
505
00:33:31.279 --> 00:33:34.819
getting points from their divers. So this could be a
506
00:33:34.880 --> 00:33:38.099
pretty close matchup. We'll have to wait and see. Also tennis.
507
00:33:38.559 --> 00:33:42.660
Down the road, Linden at Ferndale at 4 o'clock. And
508
00:33:42.700 --> 00:33:47.200
then also at 4 o'clock, soccer, Meridian at Linden Christian,
509
00:33:47.660 --> 00:33:51.200
which is another great 1A matchup there. So a lot
510
00:33:51.220 --> 00:33:54.880
of things going on there in the afternoon before all
511
00:33:54.920 --> 00:33:59.660
the evening events get going. On Thursday, tennis again, Bellingham
512
00:33:59.819 --> 00:34:04.910
at Linden. That's at 4 o'clock. Bellingham expected to win there,
513
00:34:04.970 --> 00:34:06.920
but we'll see if Linden can come through with a,
514
00:34:07.539 --> 00:34:10.519
a match here or there, or, you know, a court
515
00:34:10.559 --> 00:34:13.969
here or there, I should say. In soccer, Bellingham at
516
00:34:14.050 --> 00:34:18.210
Linden as well at 4.30. So if you're a fan
517
00:34:18.250 --> 00:34:21.869
of Bellingham and Linden athletics, you can head out to
518
00:34:22.150 --> 00:34:25.369
the middle school for tennis at 4 o'clock, and then
519
00:34:25.389 --> 00:34:28.389
you can head out to Bender Fields for soccer at 4.30.
520
00:34:28.389 --> 00:34:32.199
That sounds perfect for what I can do because then
521
00:34:32.239 --> 00:34:34.440
I can hit them both. I'm right there. I love
522
00:34:34.619 --> 00:34:37.510
seeing these kinds of things. Also in soccer later on
523
00:34:37.530 --> 00:34:40.010
in the evening, Blaine at Nooksack Valley. That'll be at
524
00:34:40.010 --> 00:34:43.019
7 o'clock on the brand-new football turf there, which is
525
00:34:43.039 --> 00:34:45.000
going to be cool under the lights there, which is
526
00:34:45.059 --> 00:34:47.000
great for Nooksack Valley as they haven't been able to
527
00:34:47.039 --> 00:34:50.760
do that as much in the past. And then also volleyball,
528
00:34:51.179 --> 00:34:54.239
3A matchup. This is big. Cedra Woolley at Ferndale at
529
00:34:54.239 --> 00:34:58.199
7 o'clock. Ferndale 6-1 on the year. Cedra Woolley 5-1
530
00:34:58.340 --> 00:35:01.599
on the year. So this is a big one here.
531
00:35:01.739 --> 00:35:05.400
Two of the top teams in the Northwest Conference 3A
532
00:35:06.599 --> 00:35:09.679
And then on Saturday, a couple things here. Look, the big,
533
00:35:09.780 --> 00:35:14.079
big race down at Lakewood, the hole-in-the-wall race at 8 a.m.
534
00:35:14.639 --> 00:35:17.010
All the top cross-country teams from around the state will
535
00:35:17.030 --> 00:35:19.889
be there. I think I'm pretty sure all of them
536
00:35:19.949 --> 00:35:22.329
from Whatcom County will be there. This is an event
537
00:35:22.409 --> 00:35:26.769
that I went to back in 1994 or 5. I
538
00:35:27.150 --> 00:35:29.150
think it was 1995 was the first time I went
539
00:35:29.190 --> 00:35:31.389
to it. And I've been to it a few times,
540
00:35:31.449 --> 00:35:34.929
but it's a huge event. Tons of runners there. So
541
00:35:34.989 --> 00:35:37.829
that's at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning out at Lakewood
542
00:35:37.849 --> 00:35:41.269
High School. And then volleyball. Love this matchup as well.
543
00:35:41.409 --> 00:35:45.210
At 1 in the afternoon, Sehome goes to Nooksack Valley.
544
00:35:45.449 --> 00:35:49.449
It's the sinner versus the saint, husband versus wife, Clayton
545
00:35:49.489 --> 00:35:50.789
Sin versus Holly St.
546
00:35:50.829 --> 00:35:51.190
Marie.
547
00:35:51.630 --> 00:35:54.070
I love this matchup. This is such a cool deal.
548
00:35:54.369 --> 00:35:56.730
It's not a conference match anymore, but they made sure
549
00:35:56.750 --> 00:35:59.130
they got it on the schedule as Clayton Sin, the
550
00:35:59.210 --> 00:36:04.219
coach of Sehome, will be taking on his wife, Holly St. Marie,
551
00:36:04.260 --> 00:36:08.840
the coach of Nooksack Valley. And just I just I
552
00:36:08.880 --> 00:36:12.130
love the matchup. See home pretty heavily favored in this one.
553
00:36:12.150 --> 00:36:15.829
But you never know. Nooksack Valley is as they're starting
554
00:36:15.969 --> 00:36:18.090
to come together pretty well. So we'll see if they
555
00:36:18.110 --> 00:36:20.650
can take a set at home. It'd be great to
556
00:36:20.730 --> 00:36:23.809
see that about does it. So thank you so much
557
00:36:23.829 --> 00:36:29.239
to our sponsors. Stauffer Insurance, North County Alliance, FC Acceleration
558
00:36:29.300 --> 00:36:34.699

559
00:36:34.760 --> 00:36:39.320
Volleyball Club, Angar Home Comfort, Kurt Mabry Farm, and of course,
560
00:36:39.610 --> 00:36:45.190
Walton Beverage. You've been listening to episode 452, the Week
561
00:36:45.190 --> 00:36:48.610
5 Fall Sports Recap. I am Tyler Anderson of Wacom Preps,
562
00:36:48.670 --> 00:36:50.050
and I will talk to you tomorrow.
1
00:00:12.169 --> 00:00:15.369
Greetings and welcome into the Whatcom Preps Podcast. This is
2
00:00:15.410 --> 00:00:21.789
episode 452, the Week 5 Fall Sports Recap. I'm Tyler
3
00:00:21.850 --> 00:00:26.050
Anderson of Whatcom Preps. This podcast is dedicated to all
4
00:00:26.109 --> 00:00:29.719
the fall sports being played, except football, as that podcast
5
00:00:29.739 --> 00:00:33.240
will come out tomorrow. I'm going to talk about Walton
6
00:00:33.280 --> 00:00:35.259
Beverage for a second, as Walton Beverage has been a
7
00:00:35.320 --> 00:00:38.630
staple in our community for 95 years. And I will
8
00:00:38.670 --> 00:00:41.070
continue to work harder every day to make the fantastic
9
00:00:41.109 --> 00:00:44.170
people of Walton Beverage proud to sponsor youth sports in
10
00:00:44.229 --> 00:00:48.259
our community. They deliver superior quality and commitment, and I
11
00:00:48.299 --> 00:00:51.679
plan to do the very same. All right, let's start
12
00:00:51.719 --> 00:00:54.479
off by talking about Cross Country. Of course, Cross Country
13
00:00:54.520 --> 00:00:58.219
brought to you by Stauffer Insurance. Give them a call
14
00:00:58.240 --> 00:00:59.829
at 360-746-8803 or visit them in person at 1903 French
15
00:00:59.909 --> 00:01:09.280
Street in Linden. or online at StaufferInsurance.com. They are happy
16
00:01:09.379 --> 00:01:12.769
to help. All right. Well, again, all the teams raced
17
00:01:13.000 --> 00:01:18.310
on Wednesday. And Whatcom County, you know, another great showing.
18
00:01:18.329 --> 00:01:21.049
We're going to start off with the girls' races. And
19
00:01:21.129 --> 00:01:23.670
out at Hovander Park, I was out there for this one.
20
00:01:25.069 --> 00:01:30.409
5K race. Squalicum takes first place. Cedro Woolley, second. Nooksack Valley, third.
21
00:01:31.810 --> 00:01:36.640
And Squalicum, one, two, three, four placers all out. All
22
00:01:36.700 --> 00:01:40.469
Storm Runners finished first through fourth. Audrey Blue finished in first.
23
00:01:40.909 --> 00:01:46.209
Sandra Voigt, second. Dahlia Strutz, third. Heidi Knutson, fourth. Layla
24
00:01:46.230 --> 00:01:49.790
Bloomquist of Squalicum took eighth. And Anita Rogers of Nooksack
25
00:01:49.849 --> 00:01:54.930
Valley took tenth. Out at Skagit Regional Airport, there was
26
00:01:54.969 --> 00:01:59.159
another 5K race. And it was Seaholm's Avon Bates that
27
00:01:59.189 --> 00:02:03.079
took first place, followed by Claire Badgma of Linden. Michaela
28
00:02:03.120 --> 00:02:07.170
McBride of Seaholm took third. Maria Knutson Park of Seaholm
29
00:02:07.189 --> 00:02:11.180
took fourth. Audrey Dalton of Seaholm took fifth. Lucy Penner
30
00:02:11.340 --> 00:02:15.159
of Linden took sixth. Bailey Harry of Seaholm took seventh.
31
00:02:16.020 --> 00:02:21.360
Ryle Miller of Linden took eighth. Jonah Gillum of Seaholm
32
00:02:21.400 --> 00:02:25.379
took ninth. And Hazel Enfield of Linden took tenth. As
33
00:02:25.620 --> 00:02:28.379
Seaholm finished in first place in that one as a team.
34
00:02:28.879 --> 00:02:31.729
Out at the Deming Log Show Grounds, another 5K race
35
00:02:31.830 --> 00:02:38.360
as Meridian... Got the top, wow, six runners. That's pretty incredible.
36
00:02:38.419 --> 00:02:43.280
Mount Baker second, Lakewood third, Blaine fourth. Bria Remp of
37
00:02:43.340 --> 00:02:46.879
Meridian took first. Lane Dixon of Meridian second. Aerie Thompson
38
00:02:46.919 --> 00:02:51.520
took third. Adeline Nosti fourth. Ridley Struts fifth. And Lila
39
00:02:51.539 --> 00:02:55.120
Van Golen sixth, all from Meridian. Hazel Grout of Mount
40
00:02:55.159 --> 00:02:58.719
Baker took seventh. Bridger Jacoby of Mount Baker eighth. Carrie
41
00:02:58.759 --> 00:03:06.009
Balbach of Blaine took ninth. And Cassia McKimmick. Meridian took
42
00:03:06.210 --> 00:03:12.650
10th out at Linden Christian High School Bellingham wins this
43
00:03:12.889 --> 00:03:17.610
one and Nora Alexander finished in first place one second
44
00:03:17.669 --> 00:03:20.669
out of her teammate Nora Seltz Elise Holland in third
45
00:03:20.830 --> 00:03:24.150
and teammate Leah Wagner took fourth all from Bellingham fifth
46
00:03:24.189 --> 00:03:27.750
place was Larkin McConnell of Linden Christian seventh was Layla
47
00:03:27.810 --> 00:03:31.520
Melima of Linden Christian eighth Grace Wells of Bellingham ninth
48
00:03:31.599 --> 00:03:36.520
Malia Frizzle of Bellingham, and 10th was Avery Ostlund of Bellingham.
49
00:03:37.039 --> 00:03:40.099
And then out at Fort Nugent Park, it was a
50
00:03:40.500 --> 00:03:43.280
5K race. The top finisher from Whatcom County in that
51
00:03:43.360 --> 00:03:46.479
one was Ferndale's Kayla Lee, who finished in 18th place.
52
00:03:47.419 --> 00:03:50.719
On the boys' side of things, out at Hovander Park, again,
53
00:03:50.759 --> 00:03:54.719
I was out at this one, Squalicum. They take the
54
00:03:54.759 --> 00:03:59.250
top prize as they have the second-place runner in Taylor Rush,
55
00:04:00.500 --> 00:04:05.620
Fourth place, Evander Burley. Fifth place, Jack Leon. Sixth, Efren Wolfe. Seventh,
56
00:04:05.759 --> 00:04:10.759
Efren Mayer. Eighth, Kallax Jeffrey. Ninth, Parker Mason. And tenth,
57
00:04:10.919 --> 00:04:15.419
Luca Burley. So they finished with, what, eight out of
58
00:04:15.460 --> 00:04:18.139
the top ten? That's pretty incredible. So they win as
59
00:04:18.199 --> 00:04:22.360
a team. Cedra Woolley second, Nooksack Valley third. At Skagit
60
00:04:22.480 --> 00:04:26.519
Valley Airport. Another 5K race there. As a matter of fact,
61
00:04:26.560 --> 00:04:28.790
I think these are all 5Ks now. There's been a
62
00:04:28.819 --> 00:04:34.500
few 4Ks. and then the laps around Lake Padden, which
63
00:04:34.579 --> 00:04:38.600
is 2.6 miles. But this is another 5K that Seaholm
64
00:04:38.639 --> 00:04:42.139
took first place in, Lyndon second. Judson Barrett of Seaholm
65
00:04:42.160 --> 00:04:47.680
took first individually. Luke Zollner took third of Seaholm. Luke
66
00:04:47.699 --> 00:04:53.139
Skolton of Lyndon took fourth. Jack Rybsik of Seaholm took fifth.
67
00:04:53.220 --> 00:04:57.399
Aidan Batt of Seaholm sixth. Lucas Cannizzaro of Seaholm seventh.
68
00:04:57.579 --> 00:05:01.319
Jonah Burdick of Seaholm ninth. and Benjamin Havens of Seaholm
69
00:05:01.339 --> 00:05:04.199
took 10th place. Out of the Deming Log Show grounds,
70
00:05:04.360 --> 00:05:07.480
Lakewood won as a team, Meridian second, Blaine third, or
71
00:05:07.699 --> 00:05:12.050
I'm sorry, Mount Baker third, Blaine fourth. Meridian's Colton Valentine
72
00:05:12.170 --> 00:05:17.410
took individual honors in first place, Ruben Taveldi of Meridian second,
73
00:05:17.790 --> 00:05:21.750
Wesley Baalbach of Blaine took eighth, and Quentin Hernandez of
74
00:05:21.810 --> 00:05:27.259
Mount Baker took ninth. Out at Lyndon Christian Bellingham, with
75
00:05:27.399 --> 00:05:29.560
a ton of runners in the top 10 here. Jack
76
00:05:29.600 --> 00:05:33.259
Stoddard of Bellingham took second. William Sherfy of Linn and
77
00:05:33.339 --> 00:05:37.430
Christian took third. Tarver May of Bellingham, fourth. Abel Ray
78
00:05:37.439 --> 00:05:42.449
of Bellingham, fifth. Parker Osk of Bellingham, seventh. Quindry Pass
79
00:05:42.490 --> 00:05:46.009
of Bellingham, eighth. Eric Dennis of Bellingham, ninth. And Mason
80
00:05:46.029 --> 00:05:48.970
Mon of Bellingham, tenth. And then out at Fort Nugent Park,
81
00:05:49.490 --> 00:05:53.649
the top finisher for Whatcom County was Caleb Wonshak of Ferndale,
82
00:05:53.670 --> 00:05:58.160
who finished in seventh place. So there you have it
83
00:05:58.259 --> 00:06:00.699
with all the races that took place on Wednesday and
84
00:06:00.720 --> 00:06:04.829
the Stauffer Insurance Runner of the Week. You know, I
85
00:06:05.410 --> 00:06:09.689
was noticing that Sehome girls, all their top runners were
86
00:06:09.750 --> 00:06:12.629
not participating in this. They were probably out running in
87
00:06:12.670 --> 00:06:17.300
some big national event or something. But still, Sehome won
88
00:06:17.540 --> 00:06:20.079
as a team, which is pretty incredible against Linden and
89
00:06:20.100 --> 00:06:25.079
Burlington Edison. And finishing in first place by 17 seconds
90
00:06:25.160 --> 00:06:28.790
ahead of the pack. was Avon Bates of Sehome. And
91
00:06:28.870 --> 00:06:32.209
so congratulations to Avon Bates. You are the Stauffer Insurance
92
00:06:32.370 --> 00:06:37.110
Runner of the Week. All right, let's go to Boys
93
00:06:37.379 --> 00:06:41.339
Tennis now. Boys Tennis is sponsored by Curt Mayberry Farms,
94
00:06:41.459 --> 00:06:46.300
a family-growing tradition. Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. They're a fourth-generation
95
00:06:46.360 --> 00:06:50.000
family-owned and operated berry farm committed to growing the highest
96
00:06:50.100 --> 00:06:54.199
quality berries. Check them out at curtmayberryfarm.com. That's Curt with
97
00:06:54.240 --> 00:07:01.000
a C. M-A-B-E-R-R-Y farm.com. All right. So there was a
98
00:07:01.060 --> 00:07:03.839
lot of matches throughout the week. I think there was one,
99
00:07:03.920 --> 00:07:05.500
I think it was Tuesday was rained out and then
100
00:07:05.519 --> 00:07:07.839
everything just got pushed to Wednesday from that Tuesday. So
101
00:07:07.860 --> 00:07:13.490
a lot, a lot happening. They played Monday, Wednesday, Thursday,
102
00:07:13.730 --> 00:07:16.490
and Friday. So a lot of tennis that was played
103
00:07:17.269 --> 00:07:20.910
on Monday. Squalicum beat Linden six to one. Bellingham beat
104
00:07:20.970 --> 00:07:24.189
Anacortes six to one and Sehome beat Burlington Edison six
105
00:07:24.230 --> 00:07:27.149
to one. Pretty incredible there. Burlington Edison, a very, very
106
00:07:27.189 --> 00:07:29.889
good team. I think that was the Tigers' first loss
107
00:07:30.110 --> 00:07:34.629
of the season. On Wednesday, Sehome beat Anacortes 6-1. Linden
108
00:07:35.100 --> 00:07:40.000
over Burlington Edison 4-3. Squalicum beat Mount Vernon 5-2. Ferndale
109
00:07:40.060 --> 00:07:45.819
over Lakewood 6-1. And Bellingham blanks Oak Harbor 7-0. On Thursday,
110
00:07:46.319 --> 00:07:50.779
Bellingham beat Burlington Edison 7-0. Again, pretty good there. Burlington
111
00:07:50.819 --> 00:07:54.699
Edison dropping points. I think that was their third straight
112
00:07:54.759 --> 00:07:59.670
that week. Linden beat Cedar Woolley 7-0. Squalicum over Sehome
113
00:07:59.689 --> 00:08:03.430
4-3 in a great matchup there. And then Ferndale over
114
00:08:03.550 --> 00:08:08.709
Oak Harbor 4-3. And then on Friday, Linden beat Lakewood 7-0.
115
00:08:08.829 --> 00:08:13.990
Bellingham over Sehome 6-1. Squalicum beat Anacortes 6-1. And Mount
116
00:08:14.050 --> 00:08:18.879
Vernon beat Ferndale 4-3. So you look at the ratings now,
117
00:08:18.889 --> 00:08:25.980
or sorry, the standings, And Bellingham, 10-0 in conference play,
118
00:08:26.430 --> 00:08:29.430
leading the way right now. 64 courts won to just
119
00:08:29.509 --> 00:08:41.169
six loss. Squalicum, 8-1. Seaholm, 7-2. Burlington Edison, 6-3. Mount Vernon, 6-5. Linden, 5-4. Anacortes, 3-5. Ferndale, 3-7.
120
00:08:41.659 --> 00:08:45.340
Oak Harbor, 2-8. Cedar Woolley, 1-8. And Lakewood still looking
121
00:08:45.720 --> 00:08:49.960
for their first win. There's a really, really cool website
122
00:08:50.899 --> 00:08:56.210
that has been designed. by Brian Lynch and Andrew Robinson.
123
00:08:56.529 --> 00:08:58.700
And this is a really cool deal where it's, it's
124
00:08:58.860 --> 00:09:04.000
actually taking the count every single thing about boys tennis
125
00:09:04.779 --> 00:09:09.320
and it's creating rankings for each player. So this is
126
00:09:09.360 --> 00:09:11.960
a really cool deal. So I can talk about this
127
00:09:12.559 --> 00:09:15.620
on the podcast, which is awesome. And right now it
128
00:09:15.659 --> 00:09:20.159
has the top 10 players in the conference rank. So
129
00:09:20.179 --> 00:09:23.039
we're going to start at number 10 and moved up.
130
00:09:23.059 --> 00:09:27.580
These are just singles players. So Gabe Harrison has an
131
00:09:27.600 --> 00:09:31.110
8-2 record, and he is ranked 10th out of Squalicum.
132
00:09:32.610 --> 00:09:36.169
Eighth place is Wesley Miller of Bellingham. He's 4-0 in
133
00:09:36.210 --> 00:09:41.549
singles competition. Ranked seventh is Nolan Dickinson of Bellingham. He's
134
00:09:41.570 --> 00:09:44.759
got a record of 9-2. In sixth place is Noah
135
00:09:44.840 --> 00:09:47.419
Schmidt of Squalicum. He's got a record of 9-2. In
136
00:09:48.700 --> 00:09:52.549
fifth place is Bronco Cook. who's also from Bellingham, he
137
00:09:52.610 --> 00:09:55.480
is undefeated with a record of 11-0. But the reason
138
00:09:55.519 --> 00:09:58.730
why he's, you know, there's players that have losses ahead
139
00:09:58.750 --> 00:10:01.980
of him is because based on who he's played against
140
00:10:02.029 --> 00:10:04.049
and stuff like that. That's why this ranking system is
141
00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:07.740
a really cool deal. In fourth place, or ranked fourth,
142
00:10:07.779 --> 00:10:10.539
I should say, is Squalicum's Ben On, who's got a
143
00:10:10.580 --> 00:10:16.879
record of 9-2. In third place, it's Michael Yeh of
144
00:10:17.039 --> 00:10:20.769
Sehome with a record of 10-1. And then the top-ranked
145
00:10:20.850 --> 00:10:24.639
player in Whatcom County is Leo Kuhn, who is 10-0
146
00:10:24.799 --> 00:10:28.059
on the season, the defending state champion. And then in
147
00:10:28.139 --> 00:10:31.879
doubles players, it doesn't necessarily have the doubles teams. It's
148
00:10:31.899 --> 00:10:37.139
just individual doubles players. And there's a lot of them
149
00:10:37.299 --> 00:10:40.210
that are outside of Whatcom County that are in the
150
00:10:40.269 --> 00:10:45.269
top 10. But a tie for sixth place is Braylon
151
00:10:45.330 --> 00:10:49.370
Savage and Luke Swanson, both of Squalicum. And then in
152
00:10:49.519 --> 00:10:53.210
fourth place is Hudson Daughters of Squalicum. Third place is
153
00:10:53.330 --> 00:10:57.590
Jack Gabbart of Bellingham. And the top doubles player is
154
00:10:57.669 --> 00:11:01.070
Wesley Miller of Bellingham. So it's a really, really cool
155
00:11:01.769 --> 00:11:04.600
project that these guys are working on. And it gives
156
00:11:04.740 --> 00:11:07.779
great insight for boys tennis. I'm sure they'll have it
157
00:11:07.820 --> 00:11:10.740
for girls tennis as well in the spring. So really,
158
00:11:10.759 --> 00:11:13.480
really cool deal. And it's something that I think a
159
00:11:13.539 --> 00:11:15.519
lot of people are going to start using from around
160
00:11:15.559 --> 00:11:18.799
the state, stuff like that, which is, which is fantastic.
161
00:11:18.860 --> 00:11:21.179
I think it's going to be a great way to
162
00:11:21.539 --> 00:11:25.570
go moving forward. All right, let's talk girls swimming and diving,
163
00:11:25.590 --> 00:11:28.169
which is brought to you by Fairhaven College at Western
164
00:11:28.230 --> 00:11:34.429
Washington University. Their commitment to transformative, creative, inquiry-based learning empowers
165
00:11:34.450 --> 00:11:40.149
students to pursue social, economic, and environmental justice. It's the
166
00:11:40.250 --> 00:11:47.649
Fairhaven difference. Go visit them online at fairhaven.wwu.edu. And one
167
00:11:47.669 --> 00:11:50.659
of the big things that happened this past week was
168
00:11:50.720 --> 00:11:54.980
the Northwest Conference invite where all the teams got together
169
00:11:55.019 --> 00:11:57.379
and had like this big, it's basically, you know, just
170
00:11:58.220 --> 00:12:01.159
the Northwest Conference championships, if you want to call it that.
171
00:12:01.620 --> 00:12:06.129
All the teams got together and swam against each other.
172
00:12:06.149 --> 00:12:08.710
I heard that there was a lot of athletes that
173
00:12:08.750 --> 00:12:12.740
were out due to sickness, but still, it's probably a
174
00:12:12.740 --> 00:12:16.240
good ranking that we have. Anna Cordes took first place
175
00:12:16.279 --> 00:12:20.779
with 310 points. Bellingham was second, Mount Vernon third, Linden fourth,
176
00:12:21.220 --> 00:12:25.659
Squalicum fifth, Seaholm sixth, Oak Harbor seventh, Burlington Edison eighth,
177
00:12:25.720 --> 00:12:30.889
Ferndale ninth, and Coopville tenth. In each event, I'm just
178
00:12:30.909 --> 00:12:33.470
going to, you know, every week I talk about, you know,
179
00:12:33.529 --> 00:12:36.850
who's got the best time to this point, but I'm
180
00:12:36.889 --> 00:12:40.750
just going to basically talk about this event here. And
181
00:12:40.789 --> 00:12:45.440
if you look at it, we're going to talk each
182
00:12:45.500 --> 00:12:47.899
event and who took first place or who was the
183
00:12:47.940 --> 00:12:53.320
highest placing out of Whatcom County. So in the 200-yard
184
00:12:53.559 --> 00:12:57.330
medley relay, it was the Bellingham team of Carmody Beattie,
185
00:12:57.470 --> 00:13:01.929
Amanda Buck, Jasmine Garcia, and Jordan Ebeling. They took first place.
186
00:13:02.789 --> 00:13:08.549
In the 200-yard freestyle, in third place was Lyndon's Madeline Honkoop.
187
00:13:09.610 --> 00:13:15.179
And the... 200-yard individual medley, Jordan Ebeling of Bellingham. She
188
00:13:15.220 --> 00:13:19.679
took first place there. In the 50-yard freestyle, Jasmine Garcia
189
00:13:19.740 --> 00:13:24.159
of Bellingham took first place. In the– boy, there's a
190
00:13:25.139 --> 00:13:28.340
lot of swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle. There were 71
191
00:13:28.340 --> 00:13:33.899
swimmers in that. That's pretty crazy. In the 100-yard butterfly,
192
00:13:33.980 --> 00:13:38.799
the top-placing athlete from Whatcom County was Claire Thompson of Sehome,
193
00:13:38.820 --> 00:13:43.110
who finished in fifth place. In the 100-yard freestyle, Jasmine
194
00:13:43.149 --> 00:13:47.169
Garcia of Bellingham took second place. And, of course, a
195
00:13:47.210 --> 00:13:49.220
lot of swimmers in that one, too. Looks like 61
196
00:13:49.220 --> 00:13:54.860
of them. 500-yard freestyle. This is the big one. Jordan
197
00:13:55.039 --> 00:14:00.240
Ebeling of Bellingham took first place. She was 12 seconds
198
00:14:00.299 --> 00:14:03.039
ahead of the next swimmer, so very good job there.
199
00:14:03.070 --> 00:14:09.570
200-yard freestyle relay. It was the Linden team of Claire Fleming-Butella,
200
00:14:09.730 --> 00:14:15.419
Avery Rutledge, Xochitl Jobes, and Madeline Honkoop. They took second place.
201
00:14:16.259 --> 00:14:20.100
And in the 100-yard backstroke, it was Amanda Buck of
202
00:14:20.159 --> 00:14:25.909
Bellingham who took third place. And the 100-yard breaststroke, Squalicum
203
00:14:26.029 --> 00:14:33.009
Soleil Rubito took first place. And in the 400-yard freestyle relay,
204
00:14:33.070 --> 00:14:35.610
the Bellingham team, and it's the same swimmers again, it
205
00:14:35.629 --> 00:14:39.889
looks like Jordan Ebeling, Carmody Beatty, Amanda Buck, and Jasmine Garcia,
206
00:14:39.970 --> 00:14:43.259
they took first place. And then in the diving results,
207
00:14:44.019 --> 00:14:47.980
it was Fiona Runnels of Sehome that had the highest
208
00:14:48.240 --> 00:14:53.929
score 174.95. So that's how it went. Um, as far
209
00:14:54.190 --> 00:14:58.389
as just that meet on Saturday went and a lot
210
00:14:58.429 --> 00:15:01.389
of swimming still left to go about another month of
211
00:15:01.470 --> 00:15:04.299
it or so. And then there'll be post season and
212
00:15:04.379 --> 00:15:09.039
state and all that stuff. And, And yeah, really, really
213
00:15:09.110 --> 00:15:11.990
fun to follow that all year and be able to
214
00:15:12.029 --> 00:15:15.610
continue to keep up with it. In girls soccer, we're
215
00:15:15.629 --> 00:15:17.610
going to move to girls soccer now. And of course,
216
00:15:17.629 --> 00:15:20.950
girls soccer sponsored by North County Alliance FC. Visit them
217
00:15:21.049 --> 00:15:28.889
online at ncaliancefc.com for all sorts of different levels, club, competitive, recreation.
218
00:15:29.490 --> 00:15:32.889
Look for dates to sign up by, age registration, all
219
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:35.850
that stuff. And, you know, get your little one out
220
00:15:35.889 --> 00:15:39.000
there playing soccer the best way they can. And the
221
00:15:39.059 --> 00:15:41.779
way to do it is through North County Alliance FC.
222
00:15:42.419 --> 00:15:44.120
We're going to take a look at the scores from
223
00:15:44.159 --> 00:15:48.340
this past week here. On Tuesday, Mount Baker beat Blaine 1-0.
224
00:15:48.519 --> 00:15:51.480
It was the first time they beat Blaine in nine years.
225
00:15:51.559 --> 00:15:54.049
So Mount Baker definitely on the up and up here
226
00:15:54.110 --> 00:15:56.769
as sophomore Macy Kamanga scored the lone goal of the
227
00:15:56.850 --> 00:16:00.169
game in the second half on an assist from Kalen Neely.
228
00:16:00.549 --> 00:16:06.379
Nooksack Valley beat Meridian 4-3. And great job there by
229
00:16:06.419 --> 00:16:09.320
the Pioneers. You know, these two teams, Mount Baker and
230
00:16:09.379 --> 00:16:13.539
Nooksack Valley, their improvement has been rapid from last year
231
00:16:13.570 --> 00:16:16.610
to this year. So it's really cool to see everybody
232
00:16:16.629 --> 00:16:18.590
kind of in the mix of things there. Ferndale beat
233
00:16:18.669 --> 00:16:23.970
Oak Harbor 3-2. Bellingham beat Burlington Edison 3-1 on a
234
00:16:24.049 --> 00:16:26.779
hat trick from Sophia Dion. She's usually the one getting
235
00:16:26.820 --> 00:16:29.480
a ton of assists, but she flipped the script there
236
00:16:29.519 --> 00:16:32.210
and scored all three goals in that game. Squalicum beat
237
00:16:32.230 --> 00:16:35.870
Linden 4-3, and Sehome and Anacortes came away with a
238
00:16:35.889 --> 00:16:43.149
2-2 tie. On Thursday, Sehome, they beat Squalicum 4-1. Meridian
239
00:16:43.190 --> 00:16:46.889
beat Blaine 1-0. Tough week for the Borderites with two losses,
240
00:16:46.970 --> 00:16:51.740
both of them being 1-0 against the Northwest Conference 1A opponents.
241
00:16:52.159 --> 00:16:56.330
Bellingham beat Lakewood 1-0. Linden Christian blanked Nooksack Valley 4-0.
242
00:16:57.559 --> 00:17:02.230
Ferndale beat Mount Vernon 3-0. Granite Falls over Mount Baker 2-1.
243
00:17:02.610 --> 00:17:06.730
And Brompton Edison beat Linden 2-0. And then on Saturday,
244
00:17:06.750 --> 00:17:09.710
a couple losses for Whatcom County against some pretty good teams.
245
00:17:09.769 --> 00:17:13.990
Nooksack Valley went down south, lost to Kings 5-1. And
246
00:17:14.019 --> 00:17:16.920
then Bush came to town and beat Linden Christian 2-1
247
00:17:17.119 --> 00:17:21.140
in a matchup of a couple teams with playoff aspirations there.
248
00:17:21.680 --> 00:17:24.160
So if we take a look at the soccer standings
249
00:17:24.240 --> 00:17:27.809
right now, Ferndale, they've won seven in a row. And
250
00:17:27.930 --> 00:17:31.910
they are 7-1 on the season. They are 5-0 at home.
251
00:17:32.509 --> 00:17:34.569
So they are really on a tear right now, as
252
00:17:34.650 --> 00:17:38.849
is Bellingham, who is eight wins, zero losses, and two ties.
253
00:17:38.910 --> 00:17:43.849
But at home, they are 5-0 Seaholm. They are 7-1-2,
254
00:17:44.529 --> 00:17:47.970
and they are 5-0-1 at home. Those three teams are
255
00:17:48.019 --> 00:17:51.519
really standing out right now in Whatcom County. Squalicum, 6-2-2.
256
00:17:53.420 --> 00:17:56.859
Linden Christian is 6-4. They are 3-2 at home and
257
00:17:56.880 --> 00:18:01.259
3-2 on the road. Meridian, 7-5 on the year. Mount Baker, 4-3.
258
00:18:01.359 --> 00:18:06.900
They are 4-1 at home. Nooksack Valley is 4-5-1. Linden
259
00:18:06.960 --> 00:18:11.369
is 4-7 as they've dropped four straight now. And Blaine
260
00:18:11.680 --> 00:18:15.809
is 2-6-1 after going out to a great start. They
261
00:18:15.829 --> 00:18:19.400
have lost six in a row. So... That's too bad
262
00:18:19.440 --> 00:18:21.980
for the borderites. They're going to get things going in
263
00:18:22.000 --> 00:18:24.859
the right direction here. We take a look at the
264
00:18:25.039 --> 00:18:28.160
goal leaders now, and we're going to do the top 10.
265
00:18:28.160 --> 00:18:30.309
We have a two-way tie for ninth place with seven
266
00:18:30.369 --> 00:18:34.170
goals each. That's Tegan Ambrose of Ferndale and Avery Warnock
267
00:18:34.329 --> 00:18:37.670
of Meridian. And then a big, there's a huge tie
268
00:18:37.710 --> 00:18:40.769
for second place. Lots of players with eight goals on
269
00:18:40.789 --> 00:18:45.089
the season. Sophia Dionne of Bellingham, Kylie Ivcevic of Sehome,
270
00:18:45.150 --> 00:18:49.650
Vivian Moss of Sehome. Kaylin Hinton of Linden Christian, Luz
271
00:18:49.710 --> 00:18:53.210
Lane of Meridian, Mia Collins of Ferndale, and Addie Wilson
272
00:18:53.230 --> 00:18:56.650
of Squalicum all have eight goals on the year. And
273
00:18:56.670 --> 00:18:59.680
then leading the way with 16 goals so far this
274
00:18:59.700 --> 00:19:03.420
year is the freshman from Meridian, Ella Kratsoff. If we
275
00:19:03.480 --> 00:19:08.319
go to the assist leaders, there is a one, two, three,
276
00:19:08.539 --> 00:19:12.720
six-way tie for first place. Sophia Dionne, Vivian Moss, Kaylin Hinton,
277
00:19:13.160 --> 00:19:16.839
Luz Lane, and Mila Kratsov and Sophia Guzman all have
278
00:19:16.980 --> 00:19:19.890
five assists on the year. And what's crazy is that
279
00:19:19.950 --> 00:19:22.130
those four, those first four are named all have eight
280
00:19:22.190 --> 00:19:24.650
goals on the year. So that's really doing it in
281
00:19:24.789 --> 00:19:28.970
every single way. Let's see if we can see. Yeah,
282
00:19:28.990 --> 00:19:32.539
there is another five players with four assists so far
283
00:19:32.579 --> 00:19:35.500
on the year. Hannah Wynn of Ferndale, Lexi Yoon of
284
00:19:35.539 --> 00:19:39.819
Linnik Christian, Sophie Koch of Bellingham, Maya Reed of Seaholm
285
00:19:39.920 --> 00:19:44.400
and Siri Hoagland of Squalicum all have four assists on
286
00:19:44.440 --> 00:19:47.539
the year. So very excited to keep track of assists
287
00:19:48.380 --> 00:19:52.119
this year. And, boy, you take a look at the
288
00:19:52.220 --> 00:19:55.859
player of the week, and there were some really, really
289
00:19:55.940 --> 00:19:58.880
good performances. It's, you know, with the 1As, now they're
290
00:19:58.900 --> 00:20:00.839
starting to play each other. All the conference stuff is
291
00:20:00.859 --> 00:20:03.029
starting to happen. So things are starting to.
292
00:20:03.009 --> 00:20:06.190
Get a little crazier. Kaylin Hinton had a great week.
293
00:20:06.289 --> 00:20:08.789
Mia Collins had a great week. Vivian Moss had a
294
00:20:08.849 --> 00:20:15.589
great week. but I am going with Sophia Dion of Bellingham,
295
00:20:15.650 --> 00:20:19.109
you know, getting that, getting the three goals against Burlington
296
00:20:19.250 --> 00:20:22.690
Edison was huge. And that three to one win Burlington Edison,
297
00:20:22.730 --> 00:20:26.269
pretty good team. And, and then, you know, she was a.
298
00:20:26.450 --> 00:20:28.960
Big part of the one zero win over Lakewood too. So,
299
00:20:29.390 --> 00:20:32.430
Bellingham's still the only team in the conference without a
300
00:20:32.529 --> 00:20:34.710
loss so far. They do have two ties.
301
00:20:35.319 --> 00:20:39.079
But a very good job by the Bayhawks, led by
302
00:20:39.160 --> 00:20:39.940
Sophia Dion.
303
00:20:39.960 --> 00:20:43.599
So congratulations, Sophia Dion. You are the North County Alliance
304
00:20:43.839 --> 00:20:49.960
FC Player of the Week. And now let's go to volleyball.
305
00:20:50.000 --> 00:20:52.359
And the daily recaps are brought to you by the

310
00:21:11.329 --> 00:21:14.009

00:21:18.750 --> 00:21:20.710
service with heart since 1935. Give them a call at 360-686-7000.
313
00:21:24.109 --> 00:21:33.460
And we're going to check out the scores here from
314
00:21:33.500 --> 00:21:38.109
this past week. On Monday, some big volleyball being played there.
315
00:21:38.250 --> 00:21:41.630
Mount Baker getting the win over Blaine. Three sets to zero. 25-12, 25-17,
316
00:21:41.650 --> 00:21:43.009
and 25-10. And we're going to check out the scores
317
00:21:43.029 --> 00:21:46.410
here from this past week. I was at this game,
318
00:21:46.470 --> 00:21:48.509
and it was a big deal. It was a big
319
00:21:48.529 --> 00:21:50.890
deal for the Mountaineers to get the win here as
320
00:21:51.190 --> 00:21:53.670
they picked up their first conference win in four years
321
00:21:53.690 --> 00:21:56.069
and their first win against Blaine in five years. So
322
00:21:56.130 --> 00:22:00.869
Mount Baker definitely on the rise here. Linden beat Squalicum
323
00:22:00.890 --> 00:22:05.049
3-0 as Squalicum's five-game winning streak came to an end.
324
00:22:06.730 --> 00:22:08.700
But that's just kind of the way it goes with
325
00:22:08.720 --> 00:22:11.339
the Lions. They were led by Hadley Lamp, who had
326
00:22:11.359 --> 00:22:16.099
a career-high 15 digs. And then Ferndale, they defeated Oak
327
00:22:16.119 --> 00:22:20.640
Harbor 3-0 in three straight sets. Svetlana Badek was on
328
00:22:20.680 --> 00:22:22.980
target all night, and she finished with 20 kills to
329
00:22:23.019 --> 00:22:28.190
go with her nine digs and also a 500 hitting percentage. Great,
330
00:22:28.250 --> 00:22:31.049
great job by the Golden Eagles there. Then we go
331
00:22:31.250 --> 00:22:34.970
on to Tuesday, where Meridian beat Nooksack Valley 3-1 in
332
00:22:35.009 --> 00:22:39.069
a great matchup every single year. These two have awesome matches.
333
00:22:39.150 --> 00:22:41.329
I don't know if they've ever played each other where
334
00:22:41.349 --> 00:22:44.390
it only went three sets. Um, I remember last year
335
00:22:44.410 --> 00:22:46.230
in the regular season and went five sets. This one
336
00:22:46.269 --> 00:22:49.119
went four sets. I was out there for a big
337
00:22:49.180 --> 00:22:51.839
chunk of it. I had to hurry up and get back, um,
338
00:22:52.000 --> 00:22:54.240
to do an interview with a, with, with a coach
339
00:22:54.359 --> 00:22:58.150
on zoom. So I needed to leave early. Um, but
340
00:22:58.190 --> 00:23:06.349
it was, it was every single, every or I should
341
00:23:06.390 --> 00:23:08.509
say it was at Nooksack Valley, but the Trojans came
342
00:23:08.569 --> 00:23:14.190
away by winning the first two, 25-23 and then 28-26.
343
00:23:14.730 --> 00:23:16.859
So very close there. Nooksack Valley came back to take
344
00:23:16.900 --> 00:23:20.500
the third set, 25-21, and Meridian closed it with a
345
00:23:20.519 --> 00:23:25.359
25-22 win. And the big one here for Meridian was
346
00:23:25.460 --> 00:23:29.960
Sierra James. She had a career-high eight blocks. And if
347
00:23:30.000 --> 00:23:33.609
you get eight blocks– in a match that is, I,
348
00:23:34.349 --> 00:23:36.569
I don't know if I've seen that before. I think
349
00:23:36.609 --> 00:23:39.240
I've seen five or six, a handful of times. I
350
00:23:39.259 --> 00:23:42.150
don't know. I don't know if I've ever seen eight. So, uh,
351
00:23:42.240 --> 00:23:44.640
she really had that, that timing down. And of course,
352
00:23:44.680 --> 00:23:47.619
Melanie short at another huge game, 23 kills, 10 digs,
353
00:23:48.059 --> 00:23:53.269
three aces. Um, and then, uh, the Nookside Valley was
354
00:23:53.329 --> 00:23:57.309
led by Finley Mitchell, Elizabeth Delang, Allie Reynolds, Kendall Jurgens,
355
00:23:57.369 --> 00:24:02.430
Mallory Mason, Carson only kind of the main players there. So, Meridian, though,
356
00:24:02.490 --> 00:24:05.839
picks up the big win there over Nooksack Valley. Sehome,
357
00:24:05.859 --> 00:24:08.980
they defeated Anacortes 3-0 to move up to 6-2 on
358
00:24:09.000 --> 00:24:12.180
the year. Paige Flory had another huge game. Radler Rossellison
359
00:24:12.539 --> 00:24:15.960
with a double-double. Jackie Hurley doing her thing on defense.
360
00:24:16.779 --> 00:24:19.720
And Bellingham beat Burlington Edison for the first time in
361
00:24:19.720 --> 00:24:24.720
10 years as Estelle Oaks, she was all over the
362
00:24:24.759 --> 00:24:27.880
court with 11 kills, 11 digs, and two aces. And
363
00:24:27.920 --> 00:24:33.460
Bailey Burge, again, ton of digs. and three aces as well.
364
00:24:33.480 --> 00:24:36.450
On Wednesday, the lone match was down in Mount Vernon,
365
00:24:36.509 --> 00:24:39.470
so of course I made the trek down there. As
366
00:24:39.529 --> 00:24:42.069
Ferndale went down there and took it in three straight sets,
367
00:24:43.089 --> 00:24:50.190
winning 25-19, and then the next two were both 25-17,
368
00:24:50.630 --> 00:24:53.650
Brooklyn Larrabee again had a great time setting up her
369
00:24:53.690 --> 00:24:57.880
hitters to the tune of 35 assists, and Svetlana Badak,
370
00:24:57.980 --> 00:25:01.920
she had 16 kills on the night, Teodubey Had 11 kills.
371
00:25:02.019 --> 00:25:05.900
They also combined for five aces. And Ashley Pedig had
372
00:25:05.900 --> 00:25:09.269
12 digs. So great overall team win by Ferndale there.
373
00:25:09.680 --> 00:25:13.849
And they have just been on a roll recently. On Thursday,
374
00:25:13.869 --> 00:25:16.950
a lot of volleyball being played there. I was out
375
00:25:16.970 --> 00:25:19.869
at Squalicum and I saw Sehome defeat Squalicum. Three sets
376
00:25:19.910 --> 00:25:22.809
to zero. Kind of getting them back from last year
377
00:25:22.849 --> 00:25:27.910
as Squalicum upset the Mariners last season. And Sehome... And see,
378
00:25:27.990 --> 00:25:30.500
I came away with this one here. Paige Flory had
379
00:25:30.519 --> 00:25:33.799
another huge game with 18 kills, 14 digs, and three aces.
380
00:25:34.359 --> 00:25:39.200
Radley Rossellison had another double-double. Taylor Terrell, 37 assists. And
381
00:25:39.259 --> 00:25:42.210
Jackie Hurley with another 14 digs. And Catherine Staten, who's
382
00:25:42.230 --> 00:25:44.750
been playing a lot more as of late, she had
383
00:25:44.829 --> 00:25:48.490
four kills and a game-high two-and-a-half block. So congratulations to her.
384
00:25:49.089 --> 00:25:52.339
Squalicum was led by senior Bronwyn Jones, who finished with
385
00:25:52.339 --> 00:25:55.299
20 digs, and senior Alyssa Rosselli, who added seven digs
386
00:25:55.380 --> 00:26:01.319
and 13 assists. Bellingham, they beat Lakewood 3-1. Hensley Hurlburt
387
00:26:01.380 --> 00:26:03.559
had the biggest game of her young varsity career. She
388
00:26:03.599 --> 00:26:07.779
finished with 12 kills, 19 digs, and a whopping 9 aces.
389
00:26:08.279 --> 00:26:11.470
Morgan Brennan had a career-high 30 assists as well. So
390
00:26:12.329 --> 00:26:15.190
great overall job by Bellingham as they're really starting to
391
00:26:15.230 --> 00:26:18.569
come together now and play extremely well. Meridian beat Blaine
392
00:26:18.630 --> 00:26:21.990
three sets to zero. Again, Melanie Short slammed home a
393
00:26:22.029 --> 00:26:25.069
whopping 23 kills. and did it in an efficient way
394
00:26:25.130 --> 00:26:29.230
as she posted a 538 hitting percentage. Amelia Koning had
395
00:26:29.269 --> 00:26:33.049
a team-high 12 digs, and senior Eden Bernardi had five
396
00:26:33.150 --> 00:26:40.079
aces and nine digs. Linden over Burlington Edison 3-0, and
397
00:26:40.119 --> 00:26:44.319
it wasn't even close, 25-8, 25-10, and 25-9. And when
398
00:26:44.480 --> 00:26:48.940
Izzy Steffen wasn't blocking Burlington Edison kill attempts, she was
399
00:26:49.000 --> 00:26:51.759
busy running the offense with 39 assists to go with
400
00:26:51.799 --> 00:26:55.329
those four blocks that she had. followed closely by Brooke McDonald,
401
00:26:55.369 --> 00:26:59.769
who had two blocks. Lyndon Christian over Nooksack Valley, three
402
00:26:59.849 --> 00:27:02.289
sets to zero, and Lyndon Christian's playing without some of
403
00:27:02.309 --> 00:27:05.710
their key players, but Jocelyn Eslice led Elsie with nine kills,
404
00:27:05.809 --> 00:27:08.690
four aces, and two blocks, and Ellie Pierce was close
405
00:27:08.730 --> 00:27:12.470
behind with eight kills and two aces herself. Nooksack Valley
406
00:27:12.509 --> 00:27:14.710
was led by Finley Mitchell, who had 13 assists and
407
00:27:14.799 --> 00:27:17.720
nine digs, and Elizabeth DeLange, who finished with seven kills
408
00:27:17.900 --> 00:27:22.529
and two blocks. So, we look at, after all that,
409
00:27:22.589 --> 00:27:25.029
we look at the standings now, and of course, Linden
410
00:27:25.069 --> 00:27:28.750
leading the way. They're 10-0 to start the season. They've
411
00:27:28.789 --> 00:27:32.190
only played three matches at home. They've been on the road,
412
00:27:32.279 --> 00:27:35.420
as of late. Ferndale, they dropped their opening match. That
413
00:27:35.440 --> 00:27:37.599
was to Linden, and they've won six in a row
414
00:27:37.619 --> 00:27:42.200
since then, so they're 6-1. Cedric Woolley's 5-1. Seaholm, 7-2,
415
00:27:42.220 --> 00:27:44.849
as they've won three in a row. Linden Christian is 5-2.
416
00:27:45.420 --> 00:27:50.460
Squalicum went from 6-1 to 6-3, but still doing very well. Meridian,
417
00:27:50.500 --> 00:27:54.619
they started 0-3, and now they're 5-3 on the year. Bellingham,
418
00:27:54.720 --> 00:27:57.460
they've won two in a row. They're now 4-5. Mount Baker, 2-3.
419
00:27:57.509 --> 00:28:02.130
Nooksack Valley, 3-5. And Blaine still looking for their first
420
00:28:02.210 --> 00:28:04.990
win of the season. Well, let's take a look at
421
00:28:05.029 --> 00:28:07.250
the stat leaders now, which is brought to you by
422
00:28:07.269 --> 00:28:12.609
Apex Northwest Volleyball. The Apex Northwest Volleyball Club utilizes competitive
423
00:28:12.650 --> 00:28:17.359
volleyball to develop stronger athletes, nurture well-rounded individuals, and provide
424
00:28:17.450 --> 00:28:21.029
resources to To pursue volleyball at the next level, check
425
00:28:21.049 --> 00:28:27.559
them out at apexnwvolleyballclub.org. All right, let's take a look
426
00:28:27.599 --> 00:28:29.039
at this now. We're going to start off, as we
427
00:28:29.059 --> 00:28:31.920
always do, with kills per set. Melanie Short, a Meridian,
428
00:28:32.299 --> 00:28:36.019
still leading the way at 5.59 kills per set. She
429
00:28:36.059 --> 00:28:39.599
is followed by Finley Parcher of Linden, Svetlana Badak of Ferndale,
430
00:28:39.680 --> 00:28:43.519
Paige Flory of Seaham, and Elizabeth Delang of Nooksack Valley.
431
00:28:43.539 --> 00:28:47.869
It's been pretty much those guys. Players Jocelyn Essice is close.
432
00:28:48.029 --> 00:28:52.700
Taya Dubé, Eden Bernardi, Lexi Hermannutz, and Rebecca Soares all
433
00:28:52.740 --> 00:28:55.980
finish out the top 10 there. And digs per set,
434
00:28:56.039 --> 00:28:59.660
Bailey Burge leading the way, 4.83 digs per set. She
435
00:28:59.700 --> 00:29:03.390
is followed by Jackie Hurley of Seaholm, Bronwyn Jones of Squalicum,
436
00:29:03.490 --> 00:29:08.089
Peyton Zender of Mount Baker, and Svetlana Badak of Ferndale.
437
00:29:08.960 --> 00:29:12.420
And let's go to assists per set. Brooklyn Larrabee of
438
00:29:12.480 --> 00:29:16.720
Ferndale still hovering right over 10 assists per set. Izzy
439
00:29:16.759 --> 00:29:20.640
Steffen really close there at 9.9. Taylor Terrell in third.
440
00:29:20.700 --> 00:29:24.099
She's from Seaholm. Kendall Stacey of Meridian in fourth. And
441
00:29:24.180 --> 00:29:29.069
Finley Mitchell of Nooksack Valley in fifth. And let's go
442
00:29:29.150 --> 00:29:33.990
to aces per set. Eden Bernardi leading the way at 1.18
443
00:29:33.990 --> 00:29:39.200
aces per set. Radha Rossellus in 1.03 from Sehome. Lyndon
444
00:29:39.220 --> 00:29:45.779
Christian's Taya Vandercoy at 0.87. Hadley Grovo of Sehome at 0.79.
445
00:29:45.779 --> 00:29:49.539
And Hensley Hurlburt of Bellingham, she makes it into the
446
00:29:49.579 --> 00:29:53.630
top five here at 0.77. And then in blocks per
447
00:29:53.670 --> 00:29:56.549
set leading the way, Rebecca Soares of Mount Baker, 0.73 aces.
448
00:29:58.329 --> 00:30:03.039
blocks per set. Izzy Stephan of Linden, 0.61. Jocelyn Essice
449
00:30:03.390 --> 00:30:09.319
of Linden Christian, 0.59. Avery the A-Train Kettman from Squalicum, 0.55.
450
00:30:09.319 --> 00:30:14.940
And Sierra James of Meridian at 0.49 blocks per set.
451
00:30:15.819 --> 00:30:20.880
So it's time to look at the players of the week.
452
00:30:21.119 --> 00:30:22.680
The offensive player of the week is brought to you
453
00:30:22.700 --> 00:30:27.690
by Angar Home Comfort. And boy, There were a lot
454
00:30:27.750 --> 00:30:32.119
of players that were up for this. I mean, oh, man.
455
00:30:32.319 --> 00:30:35.859
Melanie Short had another huge week. Paige Flory had a
456
00:30:35.920 --> 00:30:41.259
huge week. You know, Radley Rossellison had another big week.
457
00:30:41.559 --> 00:30:45.900
But I'm going with Svetlana Badak of Ferndale, keeping that
458
00:30:45.960 --> 00:30:49.420
winning streak alive and seeing what she did against these
459
00:30:49.480 --> 00:30:53.549
other 3A teams. And she's really on a roll right now.
460
00:30:53.589 --> 00:30:57.089
So congratulations, Svetlana. To Ferndale Senior Svetlana Badak, you are
461
00:30:57.109 --> 00:31:01.809
the ANGAR Home Comfort Offensive Player of the Week. And
462
00:31:01.890 --> 00:31:03.549
the Defensive Player of the Week is brought to you
463
00:31:03.569 --> 00:31:06.250
by Acceleration Driving School. And if you have a team
464
00:31:06.289 --> 00:31:08.579
that is learning to drive, I highly advise you to
465
00:31:08.619 --> 00:31:12.980
check out Acceleration Driving School. Acceleration Driving School strives for
466
00:31:13.000 --> 00:31:15.799
its students to excel in the classroom and on the
467
00:31:15.859 --> 00:31:19.319
road by offering five- and seven-week courses for students to
468
00:31:19.420 --> 00:31:23.579
earn their Traffic Safety Education Certificate. Applicants must be 15
469
00:31:23.579 --> 00:31:25.849
years of age by the first day of class. Give
470
00:31:25.880 --> 00:31:28.150
them a call at 360-746-4567 or go online at accelerationdrivingschool.com.
471
00:31:28.170 --> 00:31:42.529
That's E-X-C-E-L, accelerationdrivingschool.com. Defensive player of the week, I thought
472
00:31:42.589 --> 00:31:45.670
Peyton Zender from Mount Baker had– they only played in
473
00:31:45.829 --> 00:31:47.970
one game, but getting that win was huge, and she
474
00:31:48.009 --> 00:31:51.130
was all over the court. She's moved her way into
475
00:31:51.150 --> 00:31:53.509
the top five in digs per set. I thought she
476
00:31:53.529 --> 00:31:55.650
had a great week. I thought Izzy Steffen had a
477
00:31:55.710 --> 00:32:00.000
great week defensively, but I'm giving this one to Meridian
478
00:32:00.099 --> 00:32:03.519
Sierra James. She had eight blocks against Nooksack Valley and
479
00:32:03.559 --> 00:32:07.720
then picked up another few later in the week against
480
00:32:07.799 --> 00:32:11.509
Blaine and– She just had a monster week. But that
481
00:32:11.609 --> 00:32:15.130
game against Nooksack Valley was one for the ages. So
482
00:32:15.170 --> 00:32:18.950
congratulations to Sierra James of Meridian. You are the Acceleration
483
00:32:19.009 --> 00:32:23.150
Driving School Defensive Player of the Week. All right, let's
484
00:32:23.210 --> 00:32:25.609
take a look at the upcoming week. The big, big
485
00:32:25.690 --> 00:32:28.170
matches to take a look for and games and all
486
00:32:28.269 --> 00:32:31.680
events and all those kinds of things. Monday night volleyball,
487
00:32:31.880 --> 00:32:35.880
Lyndon Christian at Meridian, 7 o'clock. That's going to be
488
00:32:35.900 --> 00:32:38.650
a good one. The way things are kind of– happening
489
00:32:38.690 --> 00:32:41.329
right now, those look to be the top two 1A
490
00:32:41.549 --> 00:32:45.269
teams in Northwest Conference, so I would expect that one
491
00:32:45.309 --> 00:32:50.279
to maybe go a few extra, you know, might go
492
00:32:50.299 --> 00:32:53.059
a few extra sets, might go four or five sets,
493
00:32:53.660 --> 00:32:57.420
and that'd be really cool. Those are the two teams
494
00:32:57.440 --> 00:32:59.180
that made it out of 1A last year to go
495
00:32:59.200 --> 00:33:01.500
to the state tournament. It looks like it might be
496
00:33:01.539 --> 00:33:03.500
the same again this year, so look for a really
497
00:33:03.579 --> 00:33:08.769
great matchup there. Really excited to see Melanie Short trying
498
00:33:08.809 --> 00:33:11.130
to knock them home and see Jocelyn Essise try to
499
00:33:11.170 --> 00:33:13.569
block them. So I think that's going to be a really,
500
00:33:13.609 --> 00:33:16.910
really fun matchup there. On Tuesday, Tuesdays and Thursdays are
501
00:33:16.950 --> 00:33:19.210
always loaded with a lot of stuff. So on Tuesday,
502
00:33:19.569 --> 00:33:22.930
get ready for this. Girls Swimming, Bellingham at Linden at
503
00:33:22.970 --> 00:33:27.759
the Forge Pool. That'll be at 3.30. And I believe
504
00:33:28.119 --> 00:33:31.259
there's no diving board there. So that will limit Bellingham
505
00:33:31.279 --> 00:33:34.819
getting points from their divers. So this could be a
506
00:33:34.880 --> 00:33:38.099
pretty close matchup. We'll have to wait and see. Also tennis.
507
00:33:38.559 --> 00:33:42.660
Down the road, Linden at Ferndale at 4 o'clock. And
508
00:33:42.700 --> 00:33:47.200
then also at 4 o'clock, soccer, Meridian at Linden Christian,
509
00:33:47.660 --> 00:33:51.200
which is another great 1A matchup there. So a lot
510
00:33:51.220 --> 00:33:54.880
of things going on there in the afternoon before all
511
00:33:54.920 --> 00:33:59.660
the evening events get going. On Thursday, tennis again, Bellingham
512
00:33:59.819 --> 00:34:04.910
at Linden. That's at 4 o'clock. Bellingham expected to win there,
513
00:34:04.970 --> 00:34:06.920
but we'll see if Linden can come through with a,
514
00:34:07.539 --> 00:34:10.519
a match here or there, or, you know, a court
515
00:34:10.559 --> 00:34:13.969
here or there, I should say. In soccer, Bellingham at
516
00:34:14.050 --> 00:34:18.210
Linden as well at 4.30. So if you're a fan
517
00:34:18.250 --> 00:34:21.869
of Bellingham and Linden athletics, you can head out to
518
00:34:22.150 --> 00:34:25.369
the middle school for tennis at 4 o'clock, and then
519
00:34:25.389 --> 00:34:28.389
you can head out to Bender Fields for soccer at 4.30.
520
00:34:28.389 --> 00:34:32.199
That sounds perfect for what I can do because then
521
00:34:32.239 --> 00:34:34.440
I can hit them both. I'm right there. I love
522
00:34:34.619 --> 00:34:37.510
seeing these kinds of things. Also in soccer later on
523
00:34:37.530 --> 00:34:40.010
in the evening, Blaine at Nooksack Valley. That'll be at
524
00:34:40.010 --> 00:34:43.019
7 o'clock on the brand-new football turf there, which is
525
00:34:43.039 --> 00:34:45.000
going to be cool under the lights there, which is
526
00:34:45.059 --> 00:34:47.000
great for Nooksack Valley as they haven't been able to
527
00:34:47.039 --> 00:34:50.760
do that as much in the past. And then also volleyball,
528
00:34:51.179 --> 00:34:54.239
3A matchup. This is big. Cedra Woolley at Ferndale at
529
00:34:54.239 --> 00:34:58.199
7 o'clock. Ferndale 6-1 on the year. Cedra Woolley 5-1
530
00:34:58.340 --> 00:35:01.599
on the year. So this is a big one here.
531
00:35:01.739 --> 00:35:05.400
Two of the top teams in the Northwest Conference 3A
532
00:35:06.599 --> 00:35:09.679
And then on Saturday, a couple things here. Look, the big,
533
00:35:09.780 --> 00:35:14.079
big race down at Lakewood, the hole-in-the-wall race at 8 a.m.
534
00:35:14.639 --> 00:35:17.010
All the top cross-country teams from around the state will
535
00:35:17.030 --> 00:35:19.889
be there. I think I'm pretty sure all of them
536
00:35:19.949 --> 00:35:22.329
from Whatcom County will be there. This is an event
537
00:35:22.409 --> 00:35:26.769
that I went to back in 1994 or 5. I
538
00:35:27.150 --> 00:35:29.150
think it was 1995 was the first time I went
539
00:35:29.190 --> 00:35:31.389
to it. And I've been to it a few times,
540
00:35:31.449 --> 00:35:34.929
but it's a huge event. Tons of runners there. So
541
00:35:34.989 --> 00:35:37.829
that's at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning out at Lakewood
542
00:35:37.849 --> 00:35:41.269
High School. And then volleyball. Love this matchup as well.
543
00:35:41.409 --> 00:35:45.210
At 1 in the afternoon, Sehome goes to Nooksack Valley.
544
00:35:45.449 --> 00:35:49.449
It's the sinner versus the saint, husband versus wife, Clayton
545
00:35:49.489 --> 00:35:50.789
Sin versus Holly St.
546
00:35:50.829 --> 00:35:51.190
Marie.
547
00:35:51.630 --> 00:35:54.070
I love this matchup. This is such a cool deal.
548
00:35:54.369 --> 00:35:56.730
It's not a conference match anymore, but they made sure
549
00:35:56.750 --> 00:35:59.130
they got it on the schedule as Clayton Sin, the
550
00:35:59.210 --> 00:36:04.219
coach of Sehome, will be taking on his wife, Holly St. Marie,
551
00:36:04.260 --> 00:36:08.840
the coach of Nooksack Valley. And just I just I
552
00:36:08.880 --> 00:36:12.130
love the matchup. See home pretty heavily favored in this one.
553
00:36:12.150 --> 00:36:15.829
But you never know. Nooksack Valley is as they're starting
554
00:36:15.969 --> 00:36:18.090
to come together pretty well. So we'll see if they
555
00:36:18.110 --> 00:36:20.650
can take a set at home. It'd be great to
556
00:36:20.730 --> 00:36:23.809
see that about does it. So thank you so much
