Obsession

We have officially reached the penultimate film of our 2026 Summer Blockbusters lineup with the absolute biggest, wildest surprise smash hit of the entire year: Curry Barker’s independent supernatural horror phenomenon, Obsession. Made on a micro-budget, this movie completely took over the box office, shattered all expectations, and left audiences absolutely stunned.

To help handle the intense psychological discomfort of this modern cautionary tale, Mackenzie cooked up this week's custom cocktail - none other than The One Wish Willow - a smoky mezcal paired with blood colored berries to go with the gore.

This week, we dive headfirst into the terrifying world of the One Wish Willow. We analyze Michael Johnston's performance as Bear, the music store employee who uses a mysterious novelty item to make his crush fall in love with him, and we absolutely gush over Inde Navarrette's star-making, powerhouse performance as Nikki. We break down the unsettling way the film balances pitch-black comedy with genuine dread, highlighting those deeply eerie, shadow-draped scenes that force you to scan the corners of the screen. We also debate the film's brilliant take on the "nice guy" trope, looking at how Bear becomes the true villain of his own story by stripping away Nikki's freedom just to satisfy his own ego. It is a tense, jaw-dropping, and deeply thought-provoking discussion that will make you rethink your dating life.

If you want to hear us break down the exact moment this movie shifts from an awkward romantic comedy into a full-blown nightmare, this is the grand finale you cannot miss. We are blending our awe for a fresh new voice in horror with our usual banter to bring our summer blockbuster marathon to a triumphant, spine-chilling close.
