The Washington Commanders open the 2026 NFL season on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles in a major NFC East matchup, and there is no shortage of storylines heading into Week 1.
Felix Trammell, Washington Commanders reporter for Fox Sports Radio 96.9 FM & 1340 AM in Hopewell, Virginia, joins Wole on the Urban Sports Scene podcast to preview Commanders vs. Eagles, discuss the biggest matchups, injury concerns and what Washington must do to start the season 1-0.
One of the biggest questions will be how Jayden Daniels and the Commanders offense perform in their first regular-season action of 2026. Washington also faces a major challenge defensively against an Eagles offense featuring Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley.
Three major keys for Washington are containing Barkley, creating pressure on Hurts and staying committed to the running game. Washington’s defense allowed 4.8 yards per carry last season, but the unit has been reshaped with additions including K’Lavon Chaisson, Leo Chenal and Sonny Styles under new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones.
🔥 Wole and Felix discuss:
- Can Jayden Daniels lead Washington to a Week 1 road victory?
- How the Commanders can slow down Saquon Barkley
- Why generating pressure on Jalen Hurts will be critical
- The latest on K’Lavon Chaisson and Odafe Oweh heading into Week 1
- How Washington’s new-look defense matches up with Philadelphia
- Why the Commanders must remain committed to the running game
- How David Blough’s offense could attack the Eagles defense
- The importance of Washington’s running back rotation
- The biggest individual matchups that could decide Commanders vs. Eagles
- Felix’s prediction for the season opener
Washington wants a strong ground presence in David Blough’s offense, with Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White and Kaytron Allen positioned to play important roles. That running game will be tested immediately against an Eagles defensive front led by Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.
💬 Commanders fans: What is the biggest key to beating Philadelphia, and what is your final score prediction for Week 1?
