ABOUT THIS EPISODE
"I am; the other stuff will become." That's the line Joshua keeps returning to in this one — a way of holding onto who God says you are while everything else is still being worked out.
In this solo episode, Joshua Wilson shares from 1 John 3:1-3 and a day-three reading in his program: a long list of who God says we already are — loved, chosen, forgiven, free, a new creation, His child, an heir. The question underneath it is simple and hard. Are we listening to God's voice about our identity, or are we building one from what the world says, or from our past? Joshua's testimony lands on a Kingdom principle worth sitting with: your calling is above your situation, and your identity is separate from your outcome.
What He's Wrestling With:
- Reading 1 John 3:1-3 — being called children of God, and what "has not yet appeared"
- The full identity list from a program reading, spoken plainly
- Whose voice we're actually listening to when we decide who we are
- Building identity from God's word versus building it from the past
- Feeling called toward a people, a purpose, an outcome — and where that call sits
- Why calling is above your situation, not tangled up in it
- Separating identity from pain, struggle, and the story behind you
- "I am; the other stuff will become" — present identity, future becoming
I have a new life in Christ

TRANSCRIPT 🔗
00:00:00.400 --> 00:00:09.359
Upside down Kings, see what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God, and so we are, beloved.
00:00:09.759 --> 00:00:15.759
We are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared.
00:00:16.000 --> 00:00:28.800
But we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is, and everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
00:00:29.039 --> 00:00:31.839
First John three, one through three.
00:00:32.079 --> 00:00:35.119
Here are some things of who God says we are.
00:00:35.600 --> 00:00:41.920
This is in my recovery program, uh step number seven, week one, day three.
00:00:42.079 --> 00:00:43.840
I want to read this to you.
00:00:44.159 --> 00:00:46.000
This is who God says we are.
00:00:46.320 --> 00:01:22.799
Love, accepted, chosen, forgiven, blameless, righteous, holy, free, a new creation, his child, an heir, a friend, a saint, a co-worker, his temple, a member of his body, united in spirit with him, one in fellowship with him, one who bears spiritual fruit, a sharer of his nature, someone with direct access, able to know God, able to do God's will, set apart for his good work.
00:01:24.719 --> 00:01:28.560
Now, are we listening to God's voice here?
00:01:29.200 --> 00:01:34.480
Or are we trying to create our own identity based on what the world says?
00:01:34.719 --> 00:01:36.480
Or maybe even the past.
00:01:37.840 --> 00:01:57.200
One day I'll get into you know a little bit about my story, but for here, I want to encourage some of you out there who you feel called to something, a calling, a purpose, a pull towards a certain people group or towards a certain purpose, an outcome.
00:01:57.840 --> 00:02:10.400
And I just want you to know that if you look through your background of pain and struggle with that, that your calling, your purpose is above your situation.
00:02:10.560 --> 00:02:15.759
It is separate from, your identity is separate from your past.
00:02:17.360 --> 00:02:22.719
Your calling is above your situation, your identity is separated from the outcome.
00:02:23.039 --> 00:02:26.960
I am, the other stuff will become.
00:02:30.240 --> 00:02:31.599
Cheers, guys.
