ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Who controls the information you see, the narratives you believe and ultimately the reality you experience?
In this eye-opening episode of Uncommon Sense in Current Times, I sit down with Jacob Siegel, contributing writer at Tablet Magazine and author of the influential new book, The Information State, to examine how political power, technology, media and digital infrastructure have merged to shape modern public perception.
Jacob shares how today's most powerful institutions no longer rely primarily on force or legislation to influence society. Instead, he believes they increasingly operate through information systems, algorithms, narrative management and digital networks that shape what we see, think and discuss.
Together, Jacob and I explore the military origins of the internet, the rise of digital influence operations, the collapse of traditional media gatekeepers and the growing challenge of discerning truth in an age of information overload. We discuss why institutions struggle to keep pace with digital communication, how narrative control affects politics and culture and what we can do to maintain clarity and independence in a rapidly changing world.
Whether you're concerned about media influence, artificial intelligence, censorship, free speech, political polarization or the future of democracy, this conversation provides a compelling framework for understanding the forces shaping modern society.
