00:00:10.589 --> 00:00:21.629
Welcome to another broadcast of Unchained Table, where we look into the Word of God to bring to the table topics that to some may seem controversial.
00:00:21.869 --> 00:00:25.070
We do this in order to raise the awareness of truth.
00:00:25.309 --> 00:00:36.349
Truth that sometimes divides, but shouldn't be ignored either, because facing our differences in the light of truth will bring true biblical growth.
00:00:36.590 --> 00:00:41.549
Hi, I'm Jim Bell, and I am the host of Unchained Table.
00:00:41.950 --> 00:00:48.750
It's amazing to me that in just three and a half weeks this podcast has 111 downloads.
00:00:49.070 --> 00:00:57.149
There are even five international listeners, one in France, two in the Netherlands, and two in Tokyo, Japan.
00:00:57.549 --> 00:01:00.350
It greatly encourages me to continue.
00:01:00.750 --> 00:01:10.750
I'm still operating under a free subscription, but soon I will purchase a plan where I will have a website where all episodes can be accessed more easily.
00:01:11.069 --> 00:01:20.349
I have future plans to have guests on the broadcast so that we can have conversations that will give you even more inspiration in your Christian walk.
00:01:20.590 --> 00:01:22.109
So stay tuned.
00:01:22.989 --> 00:01:29.709
Today I want to talk to you about the difference between justification and sanctification.
00:01:30.349 --> 00:01:33.310
You might say, oh my goodness, those are big theological words.
00:01:33.390 --> 00:01:41.629
But listen, as we get into this broadcast, I think it will become a much more simpler concept for you to understand.
00:01:42.909 --> 00:01:57.230
Justification is defined as an act of God by which those who are unrighteous in themselves, that is to say, their flesh, are nevertheless declared righteous before God.
00:01:58.030 --> 00:02:11.870
Justification is a deliverance from the penalty of sin and is a past perfect action for all believers, accomplished by Christ on the cross.
00:02:12.990 --> 00:02:17.230
Let me explain that past perfect action a little better.
00:02:18.030 --> 00:02:21.470
It's the past perfect tense in the Greek.
00:02:21.790 --> 00:02:28.829
And it means this it's something that happened in the past that has continual results into the future.
00:02:28.990 --> 00:02:36.670
So in other words, Jesus Christ provided salvation for all the world on the cross in the past.
00:02:37.550 --> 00:02:40.990
And it has continual results into the future.
00:02:41.550 --> 00:02:55.949
And so it is for you that when you receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, instantly you became one of his, you became a child of God, but it has continual results even into eternity.
00:02:56.189 --> 00:02:57.790
It's working in you.
00:02:58.350 --> 00:03:04.189
The Apostle Paul summarizes the concept of justification in Romans 5 18.
00:03:04.910 --> 00:03:17.470
Therefore as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
00:03:18.110 --> 00:03:20.189
Let me read that again with emphasis.
00:03:20.430 --> 00:03:35.949
Therefore, as one trespass, Adam's sin, led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness, Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, leads to justification and life for all men.
00:03:37.550 --> 00:03:45.949
So then sanctification is the continual process by which God actually is making a person righteous.
00:03:46.670 --> 00:04:01.230
Sanctification is the deliverance from the power of sin and is a present and continuous process of believers becoming Christ like, accomplished by the Holy Spirit's power and presence.
00:04:01.870 --> 00:04:07.069
Sanctification represents a believer's victory over the flesh.
00:04:23.149 --> 00:04:25.870
That's in the English Standard Version.
00:04:27.470 --> 00:04:31.629
So let me read that again in the New Living Translation.
00:04:31.870 --> 00:04:32.509
Chapter ten.
00:04:32.750 --> 00:04:36.270
We'll read it in context, verses eleven through eighteen.
00:04:36.910 --> 00:04:49.470
Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins.
00:04:50.030 --> 00:04:57.949
But our high priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time.
00:04:58.830 --> 00:05:02.830
Then he sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand.
00:05:02.990 --> 00:05:07.710
There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet.
00:05:08.350 --> 00:05:10.030
And here's that verse 14.
00:05:10.509 --> 00:05:20.110
For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
00:05:21.150 --> 00:05:26.270
You see, you read that and you might say to yourself, Well, how can I be made perfect?
00:05:26.590 --> 00:05:29.629
But then there's still a being made holy.
00:05:30.430 --> 00:05:36.910
That right there is the definition and the difference between justification and sanctification.
00:05:37.629 --> 00:05:44.910
Instantly, when you're born again, that one offering forever has makes you perfect.
00:05:45.790 --> 00:05:50.270
But then there's a process where you are being made holy or sanctified.
00:05:51.230 --> 00:05:54.990
And the Holy Spirit also testifies that this is so.
00:05:55.550 --> 00:06:02.110
For he says, This is the covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord.
00:06:02.590 --> 00:06:09.310
I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them in their minds.
00:06:10.509 --> 00:06:16.030
Then he says, I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.
00:06:17.310 --> 00:06:24.750
And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.
00:06:26.590 --> 00:06:32.270
Well, you might say, I have a friend who says they are saved, but they don't act very saved.
00:06:33.069 --> 00:06:44.030
If they are truly born again, it would depend on where they are in the sanctification process as to how much of the image of Christ you'll see in their life.
00:06:44.750 --> 00:07:03.550
Someone who is in Christ may be in a place where they have the desire to do what is right, because God's law is written on their heart, but they haven't yet yielded to the power of God working in them to overcome that sin.
00:07:04.990 --> 00:07:07.710
Philippians 2.13 says it this way.
00:07:08.509 --> 00:07:17.550
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
00:07:20.030 --> 00:07:22.189
God is working in you.
00:07:23.870 --> 00:07:27.150
It's something that's happening in your spirit.
00:07:28.509 --> 00:07:30.509
He's giving you the desire.
00:07:32.110 --> 00:07:37.470
And then he will also give you the power to do what pleases him.
00:07:39.230 --> 00:07:40.910
You just need to yield to it.
00:07:41.150 --> 00:07:45.710
You see, there is this crazy, frustrating thing about us as human beings.
00:07:46.910 --> 00:07:54.750
We just can't seem to let go and trust God our Father, through the blood of Jesus Christ, has taken away our sin.
00:07:56.270 --> 00:08:04.910
We just keep falling back into the same old trap that we think we have to preserve and maintain our salvation through human effort.
00:08:05.949 --> 00:08:19.949
When what really needs to happen is for us to rest and rejoice in our justification, and then yield to the work of sanctification that God is doing in us.
00:08:20.750 --> 00:08:25.150
Yield to His will, agree with it, just let go.
00:08:26.590 --> 00:08:34.750
So you could say it this way I am saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and God has declared me righteous.
00:08:35.309 --> 00:08:43.470
Now he is continually working in me, bringing forth his image to be seen in my life.
00:08:45.470 --> 00:08:55.950
Listen, my prayer for you today is that you will fully come to the realization that God has ordained this salvation through the blood of his Son Jesus Christ.
00:08:56.350 --> 00:09:15.950
Jesus was obedient to do all that was required to produce it, and the Holy Spirit has been sent into this earth to testify of that finished work of Christ on the cross, and that he has fully conquered death, hell, and the grave by his resurrection from the dead.
00:09:16.430 --> 00:09:23.310
Then by the Holy Spirit you were made able to hear and see that this salvation was for you.
00:09:24.190 --> 00:09:34.269
Then when you said yes to the invitation, you received this salvation, so that by the Holy Spirit you were made alive in Christ Jesus.
00:09:34.590 --> 00:09:44.350
You were resurrected from the death of your sin, and all these things I just read in Hebrews 10 happened to you.
00:09:44.909 --> 00:09:47.070
Let's look at that again in verse 14.
00:09:47.550 --> 00:09:57.710
It says, For by one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
00:09:59.550 --> 00:10:02.509
He wrote his laws on your heart.
00:10:03.470 --> 00:10:05.550
He wrote them in your minds.
00:10:07.070 --> 00:10:09.149
Your sins have been forgiven.
00:10:09.470 --> 00:10:12.110
There's no need for any more sacrifices.
00:10:12.990 --> 00:10:18.750
So let's take a quick break right now, and when we come back, we will dive into this deeper.
00:10:36.430 --> 00:10:45.950
Okay, so you see, Jesus said in John chapter 10, verse 10, that the thief would come to steal, kill, and destroy.
00:10:46.909 --> 00:10:49.550
He does that using many different weapons.
00:10:49.710 --> 00:10:51.389
One of them is agreements.
00:10:52.350 --> 00:11:04.590
When we agree with something that is a lie, it can lead us down a path of destruction to steal and kill the truth that the Holy Spirit is using to produce life.
00:11:05.470 --> 00:11:13.070
For Jesus went on to say in that verse that he has come to give us life and that more abundant.
00:11:14.590 --> 00:11:17.870
The enemy is a master at twisting the truth.
00:11:18.669 --> 00:11:24.190
That is what he did in the garden with Eve, and he's still doing it today.
00:11:25.310 --> 00:11:28.830
Let's take Jeremiah 17 9 for an example.
00:11:29.149 --> 00:11:34.350
Oh my goodness, I'm starting to tread on thin ice with some of you people with Jeremiah 17.9.
00:11:35.629 --> 00:11:36.909
This is what it says.
00:11:37.149 --> 00:11:43.310
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things and desperately wicked.
00:11:43.470 --> 00:11:45.470
Who really knows how bad it is?
00:11:46.509 --> 00:11:48.029
This is true.
00:11:48.669 --> 00:11:51.710
But who is this word spoken to?
00:11:52.830 --> 00:11:56.669
This is the condition of the human heart without Christ.
00:11:57.310 --> 00:12:06.430
We know this because it was spoken by Jeremiah to Israel centuries before Christ came to redeem mankind from an evil heart.
00:12:06.990 --> 00:12:11.870
They were a rebellious people who did not want to follow God.
00:12:12.990 --> 00:12:18.590
Even Jesus said when he was on earth in Mark chapter 7, verse 21.
00:12:19.070 --> 00:12:30.190
For from within, out of the human heart of man come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, and adultery.
00:12:31.310 --> 00:12:34.509
Today there is a popular message in the world.
00:12:35.310 --> 00:12:36.830
Follow your heart.
00:12:37.230 --> 00:12:38.909
You follow your heart, honey.
00:12:39.629 --> 00:12:40.830
You just do you.
00:12:42.190 --> 00:12:53.149
But that's a horrible advice if your heart is unregenerated with the blood of Christ, and still in the condition that Jeremiah and Jesus were speaking of.
00:12:54.190 --> 00:13:00.590
But God can change the condition of a heart that is repentant and desires Him.
00:13:01.389 --> 00:13:11.149
David cried out in Psalm 51, verse 10, Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
00:13:12.909 --> 00:13:24.509
And if you are in Christ and the Holy Spirit has resurrected you from the death of sin, then Ezekiel chapter 36, verse 26 now applies to you.
00:13:25.149 --> 00:13:36.190
Ezekiel 36, 26 says, And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you.
00:13:36.750 --> 00:13:43.070
I will take out your stony, stubborn heart, and give you a tender, responsive heart.
00:13:43.629 --> 00:13:56.590
So the day if you are in Christ, you have a new heart, you have a new spirit, and your new heart is tender and responsive to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
00:13:57.629 --> 00:14:07.389
Proverbs 4, verse 23 says, Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.
00:14:08.430 --> 00:14:10.830
Why would you guard a wicked heart?
00:14:11.149 --> 00:14:14.909
And why would the word say it was the source of life?
00:14:15.950 --> 00:14:29.149
So if you had been born again in Christ and hear spoken to you that your heart is wicked, and you agree with it and believe it applies to your heart, you are believing a lie.
00:14:30.350 --> 00:14:32.590
Because it's no longer true for you.
00:14:33.070 --> 00:14:35.389
You now have a new heart.
00:14:37.149 --> 00:14:45.789
The Holy Spirit is doing a work of sanctification in your life, and he is doing it out of a new heart and a new spirit.
00:14:46.509 --> 00:14:58.269
But if you agree with the lie that your heart is wicked, you will shut off the voice of God from within, and it will steal, kill, and destroy what he is trying to do.
00:14:58.750 --> 00:15:04.110
That's why 1 Thessalonians 5 19, Paul said, quench not the Spirit.
00:15:04.830 --> 00:15:07.230
We need to listen to the Holy Spirit.
00:15:07.950 --> 00:15:09.789
But let me stop right here and say this.
00:15:10.029 --> 00:15:16.190
The Holy Spirit will never lead you to do something that disagrees with the written word of God.
00:15:16.830 --> 00:15:23.310
He will always bring it to light and help us understand what has been written in Scripture.
00:15:23.789 --> 00:15:41.789
Remember in John 14, 26, Jesus said, But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and will bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you.
00:15:42.909 --> 00:15:50.029
So again, what we've been talking about today is the difference between justification and sanctification.
00:15:50.430 --> 00:15:58.669
Justification is what happened to you instantly when you were saved, as God declares you righteous by the blood of Jesus Christ.
00:15:59.230 --> 00:16:06.430
Sanctification is the process of the Holy Spirit working in you to make you like Christ.
00:16:06.990 --> 00:16:10.909
This is what motivates me to do what I do and say what I say.
00:16:11.070 --> 00:16:17.070
I pray every day that God would help me break the yoke of bondage and set the captive free.
00:16:17.310 --> 00:16:28.750
I'm speaking primarily to believers, to make disciples, but even then an unbeliever can hear it and know they need what I am saying and ask, how can I be saved?
00:16:29.470 --> 00:16:36.029
Let's look at another way of describing the sanctification process from Romans twelve verse two.
00:16:36.830 --> 00:16:49.230
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
00:16:49.710 --> 00:16:54.350
Let's talk about that phrase transformed by the renewing of your mind.
00:16:55.230 --> 00:17:01.070
The word tells you, don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
00:17:01.310 --> 00:17:18.029
That word transformed in the Greek is the word metamorpho, from two Greek words meta, which means to change after being with, and morpho, changing form in keeping with an inner reality.
00:17:18.909 --> 00:17:36.909
So you have this word metamorpho, which means changed after being with, but that change is a is keeping in line with an inner reality, changing form in keeping with an inner reality, something that's already happened inside of you.
00:17:37.309 --> 00:17:40.029
Let's look at the example of a caterpillar.
00:17:41.069 --> 00:17:49.789
When a caterpillar is born, all the DNA for being a beautiful butterfly is within its ugly frame.
00:17:50.589 --> 00:18:05.229
You don't see it, but all the while it is eating and growing bigger, that inner reality is working within until one day it spins a cocoon and rests in the process.
00:18:05.949 --> 00:18:07.389
A light bulb just came over.
00:18:07.549 --> 00:18:08.909
Some of you, I know it did.
00:18:09.869 --> 00:18:18.509
The results of this inner beauty we actually see when the day comes and that process is complete.
00:18:19.789 --> 00:18:38.589
When you were first made alive in Christ, you instantly have all the DNA of Christ within your ugly frame, and he is working in you as he renews your mind to all that you are in Christ to transform you into something new and beautiful.
00:18:47.789 --> 00:18:52.349
And it has not yet been revealed what we shall be.
00:18:52.990 --> 00:19:01.149
But we know that when he is revealed, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
00:19:02.990 --> 00:19:06.189
When we see Jesus, we'll see him in all his glory.
00:19:06.589 --> 00:19:13.549
But we will also be seen in all our glory when all of that is revealed.
00:19:14.909 --> 00:19:20.669
Listen, this gospel is not a gospel of behavior modification.
00:19:21.389 --> 00:19:24.189
That is a cheap imitation.
00:19:24.829 --> 00:19:28.189
It is not a bunch of principles to help you do better.
00:19:29.229 --> 00:19:39.069
Renewing our minds to who we are in Christ is only difficult because we keep looking in the mirror and see the ugly caterpillar.
00:19:40.990 --> 00:19:56.990
Renewing our minds to who we are in Christ requires continual looking inward and looking into the Word of God, both believing and yielding to who we are in Christ.
00:19:57.949 --> 00:20:04.269
Renewing our mind is much like that caterpillar in the cocoon.
00:20:04.829 --> 00:20:13.069
We just need to rest in Him and trust the process and what He's really doing within us.
00:20:13.469 --> 00:20:19.469
The more we yield to it, the more we will be seen for who we really are.
00:20:21.069 --> 00:20:26.750
Until next time, rest in your justification through the blood of Jesus Christ.
00:20:27.069 --> 00:20:30.189
Let the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth.
00:20:30.509 --> 00:20:35.709
Yield to His working and stay unchained.
00:00:10.589 --> 00:00:21.629
Welcome to another broadcast of Unchained Table, where we look into the Word of God to bring to the table topics that to some may seem controversial.
00:00:21.869 --> 00:00:25.070
We do this in order to raise the awareness of truth.
00:00:25.309 --> 00:00:36.349
Truth that sometimes divides, but shouldn't be ignored either, because facing our differences in the light of truth will bring true biblical growth.
00:00:36.590 --> 00:00:41.549
Hi, I'm Jim Bell, and I am the host of Unchained Table.
00:00:41.950 --> 00:00:48.750
It's amazing to me that in just three and a half weeks this podcast has 111 downloads.
00:00:49.070 --> 00:00:57.149
There are even five international listeners, one in France, two in the Netherlands, and two in Tokyo, Japan.
00:00:57.549 --> 00:01:00.350
It greatly encourages me to continue.
00:01:00.750 --> 00:01:10.750
I'm still operating under a free subscription, but soon I will purchase a plan where I will have a website where all episodes can be accessed more easily.
00:01:11.069 --> 00:01:20.349
I have future plans to have guests on the broadcast so that we can have conversations that will give you even more inspiration in your Christian walk.
00:01:20.590 --> 00:01:22.109
So stay tuned.
00:01:22.989 --> 00:01:29.709
Today I want to talk to you about the difference between justification and sanctification.
00:01:30.349 --> 00:01:33.310
You might say, oh my goodness, those are big theological words.
00:01:33.390 --> 00:01:41.629
But listen, as we get into this broadcast, I think it will become a much more simpler concept for you to understand.
00:01:42.909 --> 00:01:57.230
Justification is defined as an act of God by which those who are unrighteous in themselves, that is to say, their flesh, are nevertheless declared righteous before God.
00:01:58.030 --> 00:02:11.870
Justification is a deliverance from the penalty of sin and is a past perfect action for all believers, accomplished by Christ on the cross.
00:02:12.990 --> 00:02:17.230
Let me explain that past perfect action a little better.
00:02:18.030 --> 00:02:21.470
It's the past perfect tense in the Greek.
00:02:21.790 --> 00:02:28.829
And it means this it's something that happened in the past that has continual results into the future.
00:02:28.990 --> 00:02:36.670
So in other words, Jesus Christ provided salvation for all the world on the cross in the past.
00:02:37.550 --> 00:02:40.990
And it has continual results into the future.
00:02:41.550 --> 00:02:55.949
And so it is for you that when you receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, instantly you became one of his, you became a child of God, but it has continual results even into eternity.
00:02:56.189 --> 00:02:57.790
It's working in you.
00:02:58.350 --> 00:03:04.189
The Apostle Paul summarizes the concept of justification in Romans 5 18.
00:03:04.910 --> 00:03:17.470
Therefore as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
00:03:18.110 --> 00:03:20.189
Let me read that again with emphasis.
00:03:20.430 --> 00:03:35.949
Therefore, as one trespass, Adam's sin, led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness, Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, leads to justification and life for all men.
00:03:37.550 --> 00:03:45.949
So then sanctification is the continual process by which God actually is making a person righteous.
00:03:46.670 --> 00:04:01.230
Sanctification is the deliverance from the power of sin and is a present and continuous process of believers becoming Christ like, accomplished by the Holy Spirit's power and presence.
00:04:01.870 --> 00:04:07.069
Sanctification represents a believer's victory over the flesh.
00:04:23.149 --> 00:04:25.870
That's in the English Standard Version.
00:04:27.470 --> 00:04:31.629
So let me read that again in the New Living Translation.
00:04:31.870 --> 00:04:32.509
Chapter ten.
00:04:32.750 --> 00:04:36.270
We'll read it in context, verses eleven through eighteen.
00:04:36.910 --> 00:04:49.470
Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins.
00:04:50.030 --> 00:04:57.949
But our high priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time.
00:04:58.830 --> 00:05:02.830
Then he sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand.
00:05:02.990 --> 00:05:07.710
There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet.
00:05:08.350 --> 00:05:10.030
And here's that verse 14.
00:05:10.509 --> 00:05:20.110
For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
00:05:21.150 --> 00:05:26.270
You see, you read that and you might say to yourself, Well, how can I be made perfect?
00:05:26.590 --> 00:05:29.629
But then there's still a being made holy.
00:05:30.430 --> 00:05:36.910
That right there is the definition and the difference between justification and sanctification.
00:05:37.629 --> 00:05:44.910
Instantly, when you're born again, that one offering forever has makes you perfect.
00:05:45.790 --> 00:05:50.270
But then there's a process where you are being made holy or sanctified.
00:05:51.230 --> 00:05:54.990
And the Holy Spirit also testifies that this is so.
00:05:55.550 --> 00:06:02.110
For he says, This is the covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord.
00:06:02.590 --> 00:06:09.310
I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them in their minds.
00:06:10.509 --> 00:06:16.030
Then he says, I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.
00:06:17.310 --> 00:06:24.750
And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.
00:06:26.590 --> 00:06:32.270
Well, you might say, I have a friend who says they are saved, but they don't act very saved.
00:06:33.069 --> 00:06:44.030
If they are truly born again, it would depend on where they are in the sanctification process as to how much of the image of Christ you'll see in their life.
00:06:44.750 --> 00:07:03.550
Someone who is in Christ may be in a place where they have the desire to do what is right, because God's law is written on their heart, but they haven't yet yielded to the power of God working in them to overcome that sin.
00:07:04.990 --> 00:07:07.710
Philippians 2.13 says it this way.
00:07:08.509 --> 00:07:17.550
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
00:07:20.030 --> 00:07:22.189
God is working in you.
00:07:23.870 --> 00:07:27.150
It's something that's happening in your spirit.
00:07:28.509 --> 00:07:30.509
He's giving you the desire.
00:07:32.110 --> 00:07:37.470
And then he will also give you the power to do what pleases him.
00:07:39.230 --> 00:07:40.910
You just need to yield to it.
00:07:41.150 --> 00:07:45.710
You see, there is this crazy, frustrating thing about us as human beings.
00:07:46.910 --> 00:07:54.750
We just can't seem to let go and trust God our Father, through the blood of Jesus Christ, has taken away our sin.
00:07:56.270 --> 00:08:04.910
We just keep falling back into the same old trap that we think we have to preserve and maintain our salvation through human effort.
00:08:05.949 --> 00:08:19.949
When what really needs to happen is for us to rest and rejoice in our justification, and then yield to the work of sanctification that God is doing in us.
00:08:20.750 --> 00:08:25.150
Yield to His will, agree with it, just let go.
00:08:26.590 --> 00:08:34.750
So you could say it this way I am saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and God has declared me righteous.
00:08:35.309 --> 00:08:43.470
Now he is continually working in me, bringing forth his image to be seen in my life.
00:08:45.470 --> 00:08:55.950
Listen, my prayer for you today is that you will fully come to the realization that God has ordained this salvation through the blood of his Son Jesus Christ.
00:08:56.350 --> 00:09:15.950
Jesus was obedient to do all that was required to produce it, and the Holy Spirit has been sent into this earth to testify of that finished work of Christ on the cross, and that he has fully conquered death, hell, and the grave by his resurrection from the dead.
00:09:16.430 --> 00:09:23.310
Then by the Holy Spirit you were made able to hear and see that this salvation was for you.
00:09:24.190 --> 00:09:34.269
Then when you said yes to the invitation, you received this salvation, so that by the Holy Spirit you were made alive in Christ Jesus.
00:09:34.590 --> 00:09:44.350
You were resurrected from the death of your sin, and all these things I just read in Hebrews 10 happened to you.
00:09:44.909 --> 00:09:47.070
Let's look at that again in verse 14.
00:09:47.550 --> 00:09:57.710
It says, For by one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
00:09:59.550 --> 00:10:02.509
He wrote his laws on your heart.
00:10:03.470 --> 00:10:05.550
He wrote them in your minds.
00:10:07.070 --> 00:10:09.149
Your sins have been forgiven.
00:10:09.470 --> 00:10:12.110
There's no need for any more sacrifices.
00:10:12.990 --> 00:10:18.750
So let's take a quick break right now, and when we come back, we will dive into this deeper.
00:10:36.430 --> 00:10:45.950
Okay, so you see, Jesus said in John chapter 10, verse 10, that the thief would come to steal, kill, and destroy.
00:10:46.909 --> 00:10:49.550
He does that using many different weapons.
00:10:49.710 --> 00:10:51.389
One of them is agreements.
00:10:52.350 --> 00:11:04.590
When we agree with something that is a lie, it can lead us down a path of destruction to steal and kill the truth that the Holy Spirit is using to produce life.
00:11:05.470 --> 00:11:13.070
For Jesus went on to say in that verse that he has come to give us life and that more abundant.
00:11:14.590 --> 00:11:17.870
The enemy is a master at twisting the truth.
00:11:18.669 --> 00:11:24.190
That is what he did in the garden with Eve, and he's still doing it today.
00:11:25.310 --> 00:11:28.830
Let's take Jeremiah 17 9 for an example.
00:11:29.149 --> 00:11:34.350
Oh my goodness, I'm starting to tread on thin ice with some of you people with Jeremiah 17.9.
00:11:35.629 --> 00:11:36.909
This is what it says.
00:11:37.149 --> 00:11:43.310
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things and desperately wicked.
00:11:43.470 --> 00:11:45.470
Who really knows how bad it is?
00:11:46.509 --> 00:11:48.029
This is true.
00:11:48.669 --> 00:11:51.710
But who is this word spoken to?
00:11:52.830 --> 00:11:56.669
This is the condition of the human heart without Christ.
00:11:57.310 --> 00:12:06.430
We know this because it was spoken by Jeremiah to Israel centuries before Christ came to redeem mankind from an evil heart.
00:12:06.990 --> 00:12:11.870
They were a rebellious people who did not want to follow God.
00:12:12.990 --> 00:12:18.590
Even Jesus said when he was on earth in Mark chapter 7, verse 21.
00:12:19.070 --> 00:12:30.190
For from within, out of the human heart of man come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, and adultery.
00:12:31.310 --> 00:12:34.509
Today there is a popular message in the world.
00:12:35.310 --> 00:12:36.830
Follow your heart.
00:12:37.230 --> 00:12:38.909
You follow your heart, honey.
00:12:39.629 --> 00:12:40.830
You just do you.
00:12:42.190 --> 00:12:53.149
But that's a horrible advice if your heart is unregenerated with the blood of Christ, and still in the condition that Jeremiah and Jesus were speaking of.
00:12:54.190 --> 00:13:00.590
But God can change the condition of a heart that is repentant and desires Him.
00:13:01.389 --> 00:13:11.149
David cried out in Psalm 51, verse 10, Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
00:13:12.909 --> 00:13:24.509
And if you are in Christ and the Holy Spirit has resurrected you from the death of sin, then Ezekiel chapter 36, verse 26 now applies to you.
00:13:25.149 --> 00:13:36.190
Ezekiel 36, 26 says, And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you.
00:13:36.750 --> 00:13:43.070
I will take out your stony, stubborn heart, and give you a tender, responsive heart.
00:13:43.629 --> 00:13:56.590
So the day if you are in Christ, you have a new heart, you have a new spirit, and your new heart is tender and responsive to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
00:13:57.629 --> 00:14:07.389
Proverbs 4, verse 23 says, Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.
00:14:08.430 --> 00:14:10.830
Why would you guard a wicked heart?
00:14:11.149 --> 00:14:14.909
And why would the word say it was the source of life?
00:14:15.950 --> 00:14:29.149
So if you had been born again in Christ and hear spoken to you that your heart is wicked, and you agree with it and believe it applies to your heart, you are believing a lie.
00:14:30.350 --> 00:14:32.590
Because it's no longer true for you.
00:14:33.070 --> 00:14:35.389
You now have a new heart.
00:14:37.149 --> 00:14:45.789
The Holy Spirit is doing a work of sanctification in your life, and he is doing it out of a new heart and a new spirit.
00:14:46.509 --> 00:14:58.269
But if you agree with the lie that your heart is wicked, you will shut off the voice of God from within, and it will steal, kill, and destroy what he is trying to do.
00:14:58.750 --> 00:15:04.110
That's why 1 Thessalonians 5 19, Paul said, quench not the Spirit.
00:15:04.830 --> 00:15:07.230
We need to listen to the Holy Spirit.
00:15:07.950 --> 00:15:09.789
But let me stop right here and say this.
00:15:10.029 --> 00:15:16.190
The Holy Spirit will never lead you to do something that disagrees with the written word of God.
00:15:16.830 --> 00:15:23.310
He will always bring it to light and help us understand what has been written in Scripture.
00:15:23.789 --> 00:15:41.789
Remember in John 14, 26, Jesus said, But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and will bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you.
00:15:42.909 --> 00:15:50.029
So again, what we've been talking about today is the difference between justification and sanctification.
00:15:50.430 --> 00:15:58.669
Justification is what happened to you instantly when you were saved, as God declares you righteous by the blood of Jesus Christ.
00:15:59.230 --> 00:16:06.430
Sanctification is the process of the Holy Spirit working in you to make you like Christ.
00:16:06.990 --> 00:16:10.909
This is what motivates me to do what I do and say what I say.
00:16:11.070 --> 00:16:17.070
I pray every day that God would help me break the yoke of bondage and set the captive free.
00:16:17.310 --> 00:16:28.750
I'm speaking primarily to believers, to make disciples, but even then an unbeliever can hear it and know they need what I am saying and ask, how can I be saved?
00:16:29.470 --> 00:16:36.029
Let's look at another way of describing the sanctification process from Romans twelve verse two.
00:16:36.830 --> 00:16:49.230
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
00:16:49.710 --> 00:16:54.350
Let's talk about that phrase transformed by the renewing of your mind.
00:16:55.230 --> 00:17:01.070
The word tells you, don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
00:17:01.310 --> 00:17:18.029
That word transformed in the Greek is the word metamorpho, from two Greek words meta, which means to change after being with, and morpho, changing form in keeping with an inner reality.
00:17:18.909 --> 00:17:36.909
So you have this word metamorpho, which means changed after being with, but that change is a is keeping in line with an inner reality, changing form in keeping with an inner reality, something that's already happened inside of you.
00:17:37.309 --> 00:17:40.029
Let's look at the example of a caterpillar.
00:17:41.069 --> 00:17:49.789
When a caterpillar is born, all the DNA for being a beautiful butterfly is within its ugly frame.
00:17:50.589 --> 00:18:05.229
You don't see it, but all the while it is eating and growing bigger, that inner reality is working within until one day it spins a cocoon and rests in the process.
00:18:05.949 --> 00:18:07.389
A light bulb just came over.
00:18:07.549 --> 00:18:08.909
Some of you, I know it did.
00:18:09.869 --> 00:18:18.509
The results of this inner beauty we actually see when the day comes and that process is complete.
00:18:19.789 --> 00:18:38.589
When you were first made alive in Christ, you instantly have all the DNA of Christ within your ugly frame, and he is working in you as he renews your mind to all that you are in Christ to transform you into something new and beautiful.
00:18:47.789 --> 00:18:52.349
And it has not yet been revealed what we shall be.
00:18:52.990 --> 00:19:01.149
But we know that when he is revealed, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
00:19:02.990 --> 00:19:06.189
When we see Jesus, we'll see him in all his glory.
00:19:06.589 --> 00:19:13.549
But we will also be seen in all our glory when all of that is revealed.
00:19:14.909 --> 00:19:20.669
Listen, this gospel is not a gospel of behavior modification.
00:19:21.389 --> 00:19:24.189
That is a cheap imitation.
00:19:24.829 --> 00:19:28.189
It is not a bunch of principles to help you do better.
00:19:29.229 --> 00:19:39.069
Renewing our minds to who we are in Christ is only difficult because we keep looking in the mirror and see the ugly caterpillar.
00:19:40.990 --> 00:19:56.990
Renewing our minds to who we are in Christ requires continual looking inward and looking into the Word of God, both believing and yielding to who we are in Christ.
00:19:57.949 --> 00:20:04.269
Renewing our mind is much like that caterpillar in the cocoon.
00:20:04.829 --> 00:20:13.069
We just need to rest in Him and trust the process and what He's really doing within us.
00:20:13.469 --> 00:20:19.469
The more we yield to it, the more we will be seen for who we really are.
00:20:21.069 --> 00:20:26.750
Until next time, rest in your justification through the blood of Jesus Christ.
00:20:27.069 --> 00:20:30.189
Let the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth.
00:20:30.509 --> 00:20:35.709
Yield to His working and stay unchained.
