ABOUT THIS EPISODE
There is a garden inside you.
It was shaped by everything you witnessed, absorbed, survived. And if no one ever showed you how to tend it — it grew wild.
Not bad. Not broken. Just untended.
That’s dysregulation. Not a character flaw. Not proof you’re too much. Just a garden waiting to be tended.
What it actually looks like
Dysregulation isn’t always a breakdown. Sometimes it’s quiet:
* Snapping at someone you love over something small
* Feeling numb when you know you should feel something
* The anxiety you’ve just accepted as normal
* Saying yes when your whole body means no
* The exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix
These aren’t personality traits. They’re signals.
What it’s costing you
In your relationships — distance. A dysregulated nervous system can’t fully receive love or give it cleanly. It reacts before it listens. It reads neutral as threatening.
In your body — the cost is cumulative. Disrupted sleep, chronic stress, the fatigue that isn’t about rest.
And most quietly — it costs you yourself. The version of you that’s curious, present, expansive. That version can’t fully emerge when your nervous system is running the show from fear.
Your children are watching
They’re not just watching what you do. They’re downloading how you are.
A child’s nervous system co-regulates with yours before it can self-regulate. They feel your tension before you speak. They absorb the pattern of how you move through stress — even when you think you’re hiding it.
This is not blame. This is biology.
The dysregulation didn’t start with you. But it can start to end with you.
Dysregulation is a mirror
Here’s what most people don’t hear: your patterns aren’t random. They’re reflections of wounds that were never tended.
When you snap — there’s a younger version of you underneath. Unheard. Unsafe. When you shut down — a place that learned silence was the only safe response. When you shrink or people-please — a wound that decided your needs were too much.
Dysregulation is the wound speaking.
And this is where I want to be honest: a breathing exercise alone doesn’t reach this. A podcast doesn’t fully get there either.
This is where deeper work lives. This is exactly what 1:1 sessions are for — going to the root, gently, at the pace your nervous system can hold.
If you feel that quiet recognition reading this — that’s your signal.
One weed at a time
You could stand at the gate of your untended garden and feel overwhelmed by everything that needs doing. Or you could pull one weed.
Regulation isn’t about perfection. It’s about becoming someone who tends it. Consistently. Imperfectly. With love.
One pause. One breath. One conscious choice.
That’s a seed. And seeds, over time, become something beautiful.
Try It On
The next time you feel yourself beginning to dysregulate — place one hand on your chest and ask:
What does my body need right now?
Not your mind. Not the situation. Your body.
Even just asking interrupts the pattern. That’s where regulation begins. Not in a perfect moment. In a small one.
This is Try It On — where awareness meets the nervous system and real change begins from within. Take this into your life. Not as something to believe. As something to try.
