Speaker 1: It's k IF. I am six forty and you're listening to the Conway Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app. I couldn't find a rundown, so it was like a very ic migday. And then I'm talking to Jason Jenkinson and now it's Glenn Walker's with us? All right? All right, Glenn Walkers, whether it's from formerly of KTLA and now with Fox eleven, how you bub.
00:00:26
Speaker 2: Well much better? A couple of weeks ago? Yeah? You know what I mean?
00:00:29
Speaker 1: You got fired over there at KTLA. Did you see that coming?
00:00:33
Speaker 2: No, they called it laid off, But it's all the same, terminated, laid off, fired, what you know, fancy words, It all means the same thing.
00:00:41
Speaker 1: I have been fired from every job I've ever had, and I've been fired from radio twice, and I have I've known probably forty people that have been fired in radio, and it's and I've never m in TV. I've never heard the same story twice. It's always like a brand new way you get fired. It's crazy.
00:01:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's you know, it is what it is. And you know I got a fresh start somewhere else, and I'm just fuddy.
00:01:08
Speaker 1: That is so great you're over at the Channel eleven.
00:01:11
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's a you know, for it's a per diem job, you know, for the moment. So you know, I'm not working you know, five days a week, but you know what, it's a good supplement for my pension exactly.
00:01:25
Speaker 1: So what where what are you going to be doing for Fox?
00:01:28
Speaker 2: Well, like this week, I'm working tomorrow on Friday, So tomorrow I'm anchoring the six, the eight, and the ten. The eight o'clock is on Channel thirteen, the other two on eleven, and then Friday night, which I think is a big soccer night, I'm co anchoring the five and the ten. I think that those are both on Fox eleven. They because of the World Cup soccer. They're right, you know, they're meeting with a lot of stuff. I mean, they're streaming all the newscasts. But sometimes what's supposed to be on eleven, if there's a soccer game, it's going to do on thirteen at that time slot. But normally Fox eleven is five, six, and ten, and CACOP is Fox Plus at eight and nine o'clock.
00:02:08
Speaker 1: Okay, so all right, well we'll find you over there. I'm going to tell you I'll tell you a quick Glenn Walker's story that he'll probably text me afterwards and say, please don't tell that story anymore. By Glenn Walker asked me about fifteen to twenty years ago. He said, Hey, I'm dating this woman that you went to high school with. By should I get married to her?
00:02:30
Speaker 2: And?
00:02:31
Speaker 1: I thought you were lying because there's no way that you have the game to get her.
00:02:37
Speaker 2: Oh you didn't think I had the game to get Joe's do that? Jody ten didn't think I had the game to get you.
00:02:42
Speaker 1: I thought I thought you were you were lying. I thought you, you know, because Jody and her sister were top shelf chicks in high school still are are. And well, I haven't seen you since high school, so I didn't know what, you know, maybe five him.
00:03:02
Speaker 2: That's not before that conversation, right, yeah, you know, actually this past Monday, we've been married seventeen years, is that right?
00:03:09
Speaker 1: Wow? Congratulations man, that really is great. Thank you, good for you, thank you. I'm glad you landed over at at at Fox. I think they'll, uh, you know, they'll welcome you with open arms. I know you're going to do some great work over there, and I hope that eventually, you know, it's a it's a job where you had like KTLA, where you know, at the exact same time every day you were on at one o'clock every day. I knew where to find you and I and I enjoyed it. You know, you were one of the few guys over there that did and anywhere in LA that didn't bring his politics into the news. You just gave the facts. It was terrific.
00:03:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, And and I tell you that a lot of time that was a battle. I mean it was crazy. But you know, that one o'clock show we built it. It was like eleven am to two. We ended up, you know, adding three newscasts on the top of the one. And it was a great schedule. I was off work every day at four o'clock. But you know, everything has comes to an end, and that came to an end, and it is what it is.
00:04:05
Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, But so so you've you've you've already started tomorrow your first day at Fox.
00:04:11
Speaker 2: I actually I was there. I started last week. I started, Uh, I was there all week, uh anchored on Thursday and the Friday night at this past week. This week, it's like I said, it's two days next week. It's three Okay, it would have been four. But but Bonnie's youngest is getting married on to Peter Frampton's daughter by the waow that yeah, week from Saturday. So you know I need off of the rehearsal Bill.
00:04:34
Speaker 1: Okay, pardon me because I should know this. But is Peter Frampton still with us?
00:04:40
Speaker 2: Yes?
00:04:40
Speaker 3: He is?
00:04:41
Speaker 1: Okay? Is he gonna be performing at the wedding?
00:04:45
Speaker 2: You know, I don't know how could he not question?
00:04:48
Speaker 1: Peter? Think about it. I look, my dad did the dentist sketch at my wedding.
00:04:55
Speaker 2: Well, you know what, if performing is in your blood, maybe he will.
00:05:00
Speaker 1: All right, buddy, how do people get a hold you on social media so they can follow your crazy schedule and until you have a permanent slot.
00:05:07
Speaker 2: Let's see Glenn Walker Media on X.
00:05:10
Speaker 1: And that's fine.
00:05:13
Speaker 2: I think it's yeah, yeah, I use X more than Instagram.
00:05:16
Speaker 1: Okay, Glenn Walker Media, Yeah, buddy, that's best. I'm so happy you got this job. You know, there are no stations are hiring right now and feed the land. That job says a lot about you, buddy.
00:05:28
Speaker 2: I appreciate that, Jim, and we're going.
00:05:30
Speaker 1: To keep promoting the hell out of you over there at Fox.
00:05:33
Speaker 2: I appreciate it even more, all right.
00:05:35
Speaker 1: Slap Jody on the ass for me, and see she still goes to HR or the principal.
00:05:43
Speaker 2: See, you don't have to ask me to do that.
00:05:44
Speaker 1: Do it every day anyway? All right, thanks for going in man. All right, man, that's a true story. All right. Jason Jacobson's with us from l A p D. He trains all the off there is when it comes to firearms, and you're Wisconsin. Boy, is that right? That's big dong with you? How long you been in Los Angeles? One? All right? And I do you do you think about moving to Wisconsin every second or every minute?
00:06:14
Speaker 4: No?
00:06:15
Speaker 1: Really, you don't. Huh. You see the and you're with l A PD Motor Motor right, yes, okay, so you see the drek of this city every day? Yep. Yeah, you see what's what's the underbelly of this city and you still enjoy it. That says something, you know, that says something about it? All right. So you're the guy that trains people when it comes to guns.
00:06:34
Speaker 5: I'm one of them.
00:06:35
Speaker 1: Did you you were raised round guns?
00:06:38
Speaker 5: No?
00:06:39
Speaker 1: Really in Wisconsin. I thought everyone had a gun in Wisconsin, not me at the time. Yeah, it's actually started off in the in the military. We're in the military. What the branch the army? Okay, were you in Iraq? No, Grenada, Seattle, not old.
00:06:57
Speaker 5: Enough for Grenada. But I got caught up in a time of peace time.
00:07:01
Speaker 1: Oh that's okay. Hellowe you in the army just under four years. Oh, that's going to be a thank your service man. You know, without guys and gals like you, we would in this country wouldn't exist.
00:07:10
Speaker 5: Absolutely.
00:07:11
Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, you know, when when the Iran War is going on, you probably have buddies over there. Yeah that are still you know, involved. Yeah, and that's gotta be you know, nerve wracking, it is, you know, and especially like when you see something like this B fifty two bomber, you know at Edward's Air Force Base, you look at it much differently than I do, you know, because you probably you either know somebody or could know somebody who could have been on a plane like that.
00:07:34
Speaker 6: Right.
00:07:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's wild. All right, let's talk we have time. I think let's talk about these two guys in Pasadena with the horse play in the garage. Does that is that a daily occurrence at LAPD. You guys are constantly pointing guns on each other.
00:07:48
Speaker 5: No, not at all.
00:07:49
Speaker 1: That doesn't work out.
00:07:49
Speaker 5: That was a tough video to watch.
00:07:51
Speaker 1: I bet it was, especially for a gun instructor. You know. Do you think that's that happened often? And is that over? I would hope so for that.
00:08:01
Speaker 5: But every agency, I think has there what we call negligent discharges, right, And that's when you're basically violating one of the four basic safety rules that we have. One is being all guns are always loaded right. The other one is never allowed the muzzle to cover anything you're not one to shoot right. The other one is keep your finger off the trigger, interia sites are line on target and you intend to shoot the last one to just be sure your target. And that includes the background.
00:08:26
Speaker 1: Okay stuff, Okay for people that don't know this story, Uh, the guy two guys, you know, I think, on a shift change and one guy points a gun at the other one. The other guy points a gun at him and he shoots him through the windshield.
00:08:38
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:08:38
Speaker 1: Wow. And when you shoot somebody through a windshield that bullet does not go straight.
00:08:43
Speaker 5: Then, now the bullet's gonna deflect whether it's going in or out and made to deflect up or down, so it's not going to go where you're actually aiming.
00:08:51
Speaker 1: So that that cop could have been killed. Wow, man, he's got so I imagine there's some disciplinary action going on.
00:09:00
Speaker 5: I would anticipate, yeah, but I.
00:09:02
Speaker 1: Will say the guy that is on video they got shot the way he unholsters his gun and points at him real quick, man, that guy's a quick draw. Yeah, you know, that guy's got it going on. I don't know what his name is, but that guy deserves an added boy. You know. All right, Well, we gotta take a break here. We'll come back and talk more about training and guns. People want to know what gun to have in the house, shotgun, handgun, flame thrower, bazooka, whatever it is. You know, did you work with flame throwers in the army?
00:09:31
Speaker 5: Did not?
00:09:31
Speaker 1: Uh? Bazookas? What's the highest count? What's theggest gun? Machine gun?
00:09:37
Speaker 5: Machine gun?
00:09:37
Speaker 1: Really? Oh man, I'd love to shoot a machine gun that. I mean, there's probably nothing like that, you know, Yeah, you get it. How many rounds a minute is a machine gun?
00:09:49
Speaker 5: It depends on the manufacturer and the UN's the highest stuff like the MG three four back in the Germans.
00:09:56
Speaker 1: That was very high cyclic rights sixty minute, a lot more than that.
00:10:03
Speaker 6: That's you're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI AM six forty.
00:10:11
Speaker 1: DG DeLong with you and we got a great guest here, Jason Jacobson with LA PD. Nice to see you, bub to be here with you. Let's roll, Let's roll.
00:10:20
Speaker 3: Hey.
00:10:20
Speaker 1: Uh, for people that don't remember this, you had a partner who was killed. Was it training or the line of duty? In training? In training? And and so you're gonna go back east for a for a ride to raise money and remember your you know, your beautiful partner, and you were going to go on to I think it was gofund me and try to raise some money. And then Jay Leno calls up and pays for the entire trip. What a guy, he sure did. And it was a very generous for him. And thank him again for that. Yeah, five thousand dollars. Yes, did you give it you in cash or check?
00:10:56
Speaker 5: Or he sent the check to the organization?
00:10:59
Speaker 1: Wow? Is that?
00:11:00
Speaker 5: Yeah?
00:11:00
Speaker 1: Good for you? That's sensational. All right? So and that worked out. I mean that was a you know, like a couple hundred bikes. It was a bicycle ride, wasn't it.
00:11:09
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's I mean they have a bicycle ride and then we'll be out there with our motorcycles to stop traffic for them so they're not can run over over there.
00:11:16
Speaker 1: And how many hours a day would you ride it?
00:11:20
Speaker 5: It could be five to seven hours depending on the day.
00:11:23
Speaker 1: Oh, so you're on a motorcycle for five to seven hours. Yeah, and stopping traffic for these bicyclists. Yeah, and waiting for them, you know, looking at your watch, you know, where are these guys? What's going on with these guys? All right, let's get into guns. Do you recommend a gun in the house to protect your family or not? Because I know some laped officers to say, don't do it.
00:11:44
Speaker 5: Well, I think it's one of the fastest ways to do that. Because someone's kicking in your door, you can call nine one.
00:11:49
Speaker 1: Well, no you want to, they're not gonna be there between the time Yeah, the guy knocks and he's in strangling you.
00:11:56
Speaker 5: But if you do that, expert, you know when you go out there, and they're to be safe with it and understand how to use it, loaded where you're going to store it, so it's going to be safe and not get taken right, or did some kid gets access to it?
00:12:10
Speaker 1: You know, I'll tell you one of the dumbest things I've ever did my life. And there's a long list, but I bought a gun. This might have been about eight, nine, ten years ago. I bought it here in Burbank, you know, on Magnolia. Every other store is a gun store. And I bought it, and I was taking it home and I had to stop by the bank to deposit a check. I walked to the bank and the bank had like twenty five people in line. It was the Friday before July fourth, and so I said, I'll wait in the car, let the line go down. And look over and I see the gun, and I pulled it out and I start loading it. I start loading the magazines or the clips, and a Burbank cop pulls up next to me, and I just you know, I threw it under it under my jacket. But I asked a buddy of mine, if the Burbank cop had seen me do that, I could have gotten killed. It certainly would have been the swat team involved. I reckon, Yeah, yeah, all right, So what kind of gun do you recommend?
00:13:06
Speaker 5: Then?
00:13:06
Speaker 1: If you if you're going to have one around the house.
00:13:09
Speaker 5: I like a good shotgun, but if you're gonna have a pistol, you know you're gonna again learn how to use it. And if there's going to be something that you hear something at night whereas that they still kept, can you get to it quickly?
00:13:22
Speaker 2: Right?
00:13:22
Speaker 5: Does it have a light on it? Have you practiced shooting in low light conditions? You know you want to be prepared to use that. I think the shotgun is best. Suspic comes in your house intent on doing whatever, and they hear the rocking of a twelve gage shotgun, they're probably not going to stick around.
00:13:38
Speaker 1: Yeah that's a wrap. Yeah they're going to take off. But I noticed that a lot of the guys that you know do rob the holmes, they don't want to be there when you're there. You know, they want an empty house. And if they suspect your home and or if you have a gun, they're not coming in for the most part. Yeah, yeah, you're else. I also heard I heard this on from a career criminal on the Howard Stern Show Guys in Jail for thirty Years. He said, there's an unwritten rule in society if there's an American flag flying on the outside, there's a gun on the inside. Is that? Is that for the most part true?
00:14:13
Speaker 5: I think that tracks.
00:14:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it does too.
00:14:15
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:14:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, And so I recommend you, know, even before you buy the gun, go to Costco and get a flag and put it on the outside of that house and people know that that's a warning signy why not? Yeah? All right? So where and what's the first step when somebody buys a gun? Where do they go training?
00:14:34
Speaker 5: Well, so, in California, you're gonna have to have a safe gun handling certificate before you can even buy a gun.
00:14:41
Speaker 1: Oh, is that right?
00:14:42
Speaker 5: Most gun shops will have some sort of training to get you to that point, right, and then after that paperwork to in your ten day weight period. But when you do get it, yeah, there's a lot of these rangers and the local area will have classes.
00:14:58
Speaker 1: Right. But how often do you train? How often do the you know, like la PD you trained once a month, once a year.
00:15:05
Speaker 5: So our rifle operators will be qualified two times a year with their handguns. I think it's down to.
00:15:12
Speaker 1: Four or five four or five times a year. And that's on your time or do they pay you for it. No, that's on. You get paid for it. Yeah, excellent, But I appreciate coming in. Sorry for all the interruptions. No, you know, we had Mary Beck MCBA McDade, and we had you know, the Christopher Dorner thing, and we had the Glenn Walker and his crazy wife. It was a wild, wild hour. But I really appreciate though, thanks for coming in, and we'll be safe out there. I will thank you, Giant, Giant stud.
00:15:39
Speaker 6: You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KF I am sixty.
00:15:46
Speaker 1: I was just reminded of something and Belly you'll probably remember this, but during the whole Christopher Dorner thing when everybody was panicked and looking for this guy who is just you know, shooting cops, and found that to be thrilling. But Eric Leonard was the first guy. He was working here at KFI, I think, and he was the first guy that had the name Christopher Dorner. And he came on our show and we were the first media outlet to talk about the name Christopher Dorner. Ye know, you're right, it was. It was crazy and I remember almost every detail of that whole saga like it was yesterday. My wife was paranoid. I was. Everybody was scared to death that you were going to be now crazy.
00:16:36
Speaker 7: It was a crazy time.
00:16:37
Speaker 1: And for it to be it started in Irvine, you know.
00:16:39
Speaker 7: Yeah, And and Handle Bill Handle's name was in the manifesto because he Dorner had mentioned a few media personalities and Handle was one of them.
00:16:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, and you were the one that discovered that.
00:16:51
Speaker 7: I did for KFI because I read through the entire manifesto and was like.
00:16:56
Speaker 1: Oh my goshocking, Yeah, that's what a wild, wild time. And then when they finally found him, you know, coming down from you know, Running Springs Run the Big Bear area, he went into a vacant house and those cops out in Riverside and San Bernardino lay lit that house on fire and wiped him out. He is no longer with us, all right, Speaking of cops, there was a pursuit eight pedestrians, including a fifteen year old struck by this guy. You know, when we watched chases on TV, you know, every single chase I've ever seen in my life, when a guy comes to an intersection there's somebody in a crosswalk or somebody on a bike, they always avoid hitting the pedestrian. Always, every single time, but last night or this last chase was different. This guy was aiming at people, trying to run people over. And I hope this is not the new trend where we're watching a chase on TV and you see people getting run over live on TV. I hope this is not going to be the future of these chases.
00:18:04
Speaker 4: That nine one one call came in about seven last night for a hit and run that happened near this intersection at Washington Boulevard and Sentinela. Police say the suspect stopped at this Arco gas station to fill up and then drove off with the gas pumps still attached to the vehicle.
00:18:21
Speaker 1: I've done that.
00:18:22
Speaker 4: By that point, he had already hit four pedestrians and went on to hit another four after that. Culver CITYPD says newly released police dash cam video shows a suspect driving a white four door sedan intentionally hitting pedestrians. Officers got the call for a felony hit and run in Culver City. By the time they found the driver, they say, he already hit four people.
00:18:46
Speaker 7: Wow.
00:18:46
Speaker 8: While they're following the suspect at a decent distance, this suspect is seeming to intentionally target pedestrians that are in crosswalks, He ran stale red lights, He was traveling at a high rate of speed at certain points and driving on the opposite side.
00:19:01
Speaker 4: Of the road. The suspect has been identified as forty five year old Jan Luis Astrada from Paris. After running the plates on the car, Please.
00:19:09
Speaker 1: By the way, I think that's the San Bernardino, Paris, I don't think that's France.
00:19:15
Speaker 4: Juan Luis a Strata from Paris. After running the plates on the car, police discovered the suspect had been involved in an armed carjacking just an hour prior. In total, the suspect hit eight pedestrians.
00:19:26
Speaker 1: Wow, eight people wiped out by this guy.
00:19:30
Speaker 4: Ages ranging from fifteen to seventy years old.
00:19:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what, in the future, I hope people, I hope this is a lesson for people. You're not supposed to run out on the curb and watch these chases because this could happen to you. Guy could be you know, he could obviously he lost his mind and he's aiming at people and this could have been you or your kids. You got to be very careful with these chases.
00:19:52
Speaker 8: Nowadays, recognizing the severity of this suspect's actions and the recklessness and the danger he was putting our community in. That was why our officers continued to engage in pursuing him.
00:20:03
Speaker 4: The suspect was taken into custody in downtown LA after crashing head on into another vehicle in a McDonald's drive through and trying to escape on foot.
00:20:11
Speaker 8: The majority have non life threatening, non serious injuries, but we do have some that are currently hostplis with very serious injuries. We are looking at whether Instarstation it was.
00:20:20
Speaker 7: He in the drive through and he crashed into somebody head on. I mean, what was he trying to do? Go through backwards?
00:20:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, he was going the wrong way. There was people waiting in line at McDonald's and he flew into the drive through going the wrong way and hit the people at the I don't know if it was the first window or the second window. And by the way, why aren't the first windows being used anymore? Yeah? You know, I mean why were you pay.
00:20:43
Speaker 7: Any move up?
00:20:45
Speaker 1: But there's nobody there anymore, and it's confusing, you know, And they say drive up to the first window. Is that the first one you come up on or is it the first window? I don't know and now that you have to say, oh, come up to the second window, right, and then because it's closed all the time, that first window anymore, nobody.
00:21:02
Speaker 7: Oh, that's not true. In and out, they're always at the first one exception.
00:21:06
Speaker 1: It's true. In and out is the only one where there's guy or a gal sitting at that first window. But everyone in one of these other places. That first window is storage. You look inside, there's boxes, it's like sealed shops. Yeah, there's nobody ever ever in there. And then and older people don't know that, so they wait and they wait and they wait, and you'll honk at him, and then they nervous and they drive off. It's it's odd.
00:21:33
Speaker 8: We are looking at whether intoxication is a factor in the case.
00:21:37
Speaker 4: Police say the suspect has been booked into the Cover City Jail on charges of carjacking, resisting arrests, attempted murder, and more. They say they anticipate more charges to come as detectives continue their investigation. Reporting live in Culver City, Ashley Mackie ABC seven Eyewitness News.
00:21:54
Speaker 1: That was some chase that was wild, and again, I hope that's not the future. These guys are now aiming at kids and aiming at people and running them over. Man oh Man dud Steckler used to say this all the time. The most dangerous people in the world are people with nothing to lose. This guy had nothing to lose, and that's the most dangerous cat in the world. And cops have to deal with people like that all day long, from the moment they start their shift until they clock out. They have to deal with. George Carlin called them life's most interesting guys, and this certainly is one of those cats.
00:22:37
Speaker 6: You're listening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI AM six forty.
00:22:43
Speaker 1: Maybe you have noticed there are a lot of people in this country that normally wouldn't be here. With World Cup tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands. Maybe they said it could be a million, could be two million people that'll come in and out of this country over the summer, depending on how their team is doing. You know, if their team makes it to the quarterfinals, semi finals, they'll stick around. If your team loses, you're gone. But this is gonna screw up a lot of travel plans for people, because we'll have another seven eight, nine hundred thousand people in this country that normally are not here, and they're going to be taking up airline seats, restaurants, hotels, airbnbs, and so if you're planning on casually, you know, just getting your vacation plans last minute, you might be impacted by this, by all the extra people in this country. So you've got to be aware of this. If you're gonna enjoy that summer vacation, you're like me, you like to decide in the last second, then this summer might be a bust for you.
00:23:47
Speaker 9: With July fourth just around the corner, the countdown is on for what could be that another record breaker for summer travel as America celebrates its two hundred and fiftieth birthday history begin on July fourth, seventeen seventy six. Everything before that was a mistake. Over the long holiday week starting June twenty eighth, more than seventy two million people wow are expected to travel fifty miles or more.
00:24:13
Speaker 1: That's a lot. Seventy two million, about a fifth of the country.
00:24:19
Speaker 9: And the vast majority will go by car. Gas prices now about ninety cents higher than they were this time last year, TRIPLA says its travel forecast is up slightly from last year, with the largest increase for those hitting the high seas. Top destinations include New York, Miami, Anchorage, Orlando, and the top spot Seattle, which is not only a major port for ships, it's also one of several cities hosting the World Cup Games around the holiday.
00:24:49
Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to be aware of that if you're going to be traveling or vacationing in a city that they're going to be playing World Cup games, and you're going to find it very expensive and limited hotel room.
00:25:00
Speaker 9: Also, Thora says her summer holiday in the US may have started with soccer, but she's looking forward to the Fourth of July celebrations as well.
00:25:08
Speaker 1: Yeah, so am I. I will be in Huntington Beach as one of the grand marshals of that parade. That's right. Yeah, so come on down to Huntington Beach. They're expecting over a million people. They get anywhere between seven hundred and eight hundred thousand people on a typical Fourth of July weekend for the parade. But because this is a milestone, this is the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of this great country, they're expecting a million people. There are a lot of people who are in town for soccer, as we said, you know, the World Cup, and they'll be coming up from San Diego or coming down from Los Angeles or Ventura to Huntington Beach to experience that parade. So let's be on our best behavior. Let's treat the foreigners who are here, may a lot of them for the very first time. Let's treat them properly. They are our guests.
00:25:58
Speaker 4: It's something that I've always want to say, experience, and I feel like also this fun band obviously two hundred and fiftieth will be extra vague.
00:26:05
Speaker 10: Maybe.
00:26:06
Speaker 9: Travel experts say the combination of the fourth falling on a Saturday this year, the World Cup in America to fifty are leading to higher air fares, with the average domestic round trip flight four hundred and eighty eight dollars, according to Going, which says that's a sixteen percent jump from last year. But Going says there are still some deals to be had with the best day to fly on the holiday itself.
00:26:31
Speaker 1: Okay, so that's a good tip. The best day to fly is July fourth. That's where you going to get to your upmost bang for your buck.
00:26:37
Speaker 10: If you travel in the morning on the fourth. We'll also giving yourself the most opportunity for getting to your destination on time and being able to still experience all that Fourth of July nine ten activities.
00:26:50
Speaker 1: You know, we flew back from from Portland to Burbank one year, it's about ten years ago, and we took off right at around nine o'clock nineteen already at night, and so we flew from Portland to Burbank and we got to see all of the fireworks displays from from the from the sky. It was unbelievable. You know, they're they're low enough where you know they're not shooting them past your window, but you can see all of them, and it is beautiful. If you ever have that opportunity to fly on July fourth, take it because all you do is you stare out the window and you pass you know, Fresno, Sacramento, all these you know, beautiful small little towns, Reno, and you get to see these beautiful displays as you fly over Ashland. It really is great. It's going to be fun.
00:27:43
Speaker 9: You know, we mentioned an increase in cruises. Triple A is saying that this year could surpass pre pandemic levels and what reason may be back the ability for travelers to know what their costs are going to be upfront, right. Experts say they always advise people to take time to do the math themselves, to game out what a cruise will actually cost, whether it's all inclusive with the resort, is that cheaper?
00:28:06
Speaker 1: Yes, that is true, all right. Now. The fans here for the World Cop, a lot of them are here for the very first time, and all they've heard about this country is through the crazy media, you know. And so if you come to this country the first time, you think, oh, it's dirty, it's dangerous, everyone's a racist here. And then when they get here they find exactly the opposite, that this is an unbelievable country to come visit and spend some time. Every one of them, every single person without exception that I've seen interviewed, loves this country, which is fantastic news for us.
00:28:41
Speaker 3: It's the heartbeat of the World Cup fans feeling the rhythm of Senegal's drums in New Jersey, the power of Norway's Viking Road on Boston's escalators, and the sounds of Scottish bagpipes blaring on New York's East River another factor uniting fans around the globe is actually their sampling of American culture.
