ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Ohio State University’s head football coach Urban Meyer celebrates the release of his new book “ABOVE THE LINE: Lessons in Leadership and Life from a Championship Season”, with Wayne Coffey (Penguin Press, October 27, 2015) now a New York Time's bestseller. After Ohio State’s remarkable 42-20 victory over Oregon in the first College Football Playoff title game last January still fresh in his mind, Meyer expands on the historic run and all of the elements that went into it.
In ABOVE THE LINE, Coach Meyer presents a compendium on leadership after more than a quarter-century in coaching. On any given team, talent can only get you so far. Add discipline to the mix, it makes a difference. Add leadership into the mix…that’s when magic happens. It is the defining characteristic of every championship team. Leadership isn’t a difference-maker; it is the difference-maker.
Urban Meyer is the head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. In 2014, he led the Buckeyes to their first Big Ten Conference title under his tenure as well as the program's eighth national championship. Meyer served as the head coach of the Bowling Green Falcons from 2001 to 2002, the Utah Utes from 2003 to 2004, and the Florida Gators from 2005 to 2010. He is one of only two coaches to win a National Championship at two different schools.
Wayne Coffey, award-winning sportswriter for the New York Daily News, is the author of three New York Times bestsellers, including The Closer (with Mariano Rivera) and Wherever I Wind Up (with R. A. Dickey).
