ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Dave Brown is a former coach and 20-year Newberg High School staff member. He is highly respected in the community of Newberg. Several years ago Dave was asked to serve on the Newberg School District Board, and became its Chairman. He placed a major emphasis on reforms to increase student performance back toward core subjects like math and reading, rather than social and cultural programming. This raised stiff opposition from Portland-based special interest groups and their allies such as the OEA. Dave was targeted by heavily-financed groups and eventually lost reelection, but remains an advocate for improved classrooms and student achievement.
