ABOUT THIS EPISODE
🚀 New Episode: WING COMMANDER — Stars, Ships & 90s Sci-Fi Swagger 🌌
This week on The Silver Screen Sessions Podcast, we’re blasting off to the year 2654 for a nostalgic dive into Wing Commander (1999) — the space combat adventure starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Matthew Lillard, and Saffron Burrows.
Before Battlestar Galactica came back and long before Mass Effect existed, this movie tried to bring a hit video game universe to the big screen — complete with starfighter dogfights, Cold War tension, and 100% pure 90s attitude. 😎
In this episode, I’ll cover:
🎬 The story behind the Terran–Kilrathi war
💡 Behind-the-scenes facts (including how a Star Wars trailer overshadowed the movie!)
🎮 Why it’s one of the earliest — and weirdest — video game adaptations
⭐ My honest verdict: flawed but fascinating sci-fi nostalgia
It’s got heart, hyperspace, and a whole lot of ambition.
