00:00:04.480 --> 00:00:07.599
Hey, welcome back to the Second Chance podcast.
00:00:07.839 --> 00:00:11.839
My name is Christian, and I'm glad that you're here with us today.
00:00:15.839 --> 00:00:20.160
So we have a nice little treat in store for you today.
00:00:20.399 --> 00:00:24.879
Um we've decided that for the podcast, we're gonna try out something new.
00:00:25.039 --> 00:00:36.159
We're actually gonna do a little bit of a branch, and that's where um every week to every two weeks, there's gonna be an episode dropped called uh Diving Deep.
00:00:36.479 --> 00:01:02.479
And that is where I will be the host, and on that particular episode, we're gonna dive deep uh into uh scripture and into topics of things going on in the world, like what the heck just went on to go with uh Morocco and uh Spain, their little um place there at the top of North Africa in Ceuta where they just got overran by migrants.
00:01:02.640 --> 00:01:04.000
How on earth did that happen?
00:01:04.159 --> 00:01:13.519
Um well, those kind of things and a bit of a wider context of what's going on in the world at times.
00:01:13.920 --> 00:01:17.359
But uh yeah, I'm pretty excited to start this new series.
00:01:17.439 --> 00:01:26.159
We wanted to give you more consistent episodes from the Second Chance podcast, and so yes, Evan's still on the show.
00:01:26.319 --> 00:01:29.760
Myself and Evan are gonna be still doing episodes together, of course.
00:01:29.840 --> 00:01:33.280
Uh, but for this one here, I will be the singular host.
00:01:33.359 --> 00:01:35.680
You'll see that in the actual name.
00:01:35.920 --> 00:01:38.400
So uh called Diving Deep.
00:01:38.560 --> 00:01:46.000
So without further ado, we're gonna hop into today's topic, which is an interesting one.
00:01:46.239 --> 00:01:48.239
The book of Leviticus.
00:01:48.879 --> 00:01:59.040
Hands down, probably one of the most, I would say widely accepted boring books.
00:01:59.359 --> 00:02:00.799
Am I allowed to say that?
00:02:01.040 --> 00:02:05.760
So, probably one of the most boring books is what I've heard growing up.
00:02:05.920 --> 00:02:22.000
Um, when I talk to other people and they talk about the Old Testament, um, they often refer to Leviticus, it's just super boring, it's just a bunch of lists and rules and offerings and sins and you know what how not to do something.
00:02:22.240 --> 00:02:24.319
And uh, but you know what?
00:02:24.719 --> 00:02:44.719
I'm hoping today that I'm gonna burst a little bit of that bubble for you because I've fallen in love with the book of Leviticus, and maybe it's a bit of I'm a bit of an old soul, I don't know, but when it comes towards that book, there's so much awesome um truth that's in there.
00:02:45.360 --> 00:02:56.400
There's all kinds of foreshadowing uh to Jesus, and really, as they say in Pirates of the Caribbean, it's more of a set of guidelines, anyway.
00:02:56.639 --> 00:03:27.919
Well, one of the interesting things with the book of Leviticus, it's not just a bunch of rules, it's actually guidelines that God set up to literally guide the Israelites into things regarding their diet, things regarding uh uh relationships, um, and also the one of the biggest ones is sin and how to take care of sin in your life.
00:03:28.719 --> 00:03:35.520
So we're gonna be exploring the book of Leviticus today, and um it's really, really interesting.
00:03:35.680 --> 00:03:39.439
So let's just start off first off with you know, what is Leviticus?
00:03:39.520 --> 00:03:49.280
Well, Leviticus is uh a book written by Moses, it's part of the Pentateuch, and um it's uh the first five books of the Bible.
00:03:49.439 --> 00:04:11.439
This is book number three in the Pentateuch, and um Leviticus essentially um was uh unlike the other books, like yeah, your Genesis, the story of creation, uh and then everything leading up to the Exodus, which is Moses and the Israelites, Leviticus is pretty much written in like one place.
00:04:12.080 --> 00:04:43.519
Uh it's near um the the mountain there of um where God first came down, and Moses uh starts writing um you know all of these things down, which talks specifically about uh the law uh and you know how it works, and you know how as you know uh believers in God, uh, you know, people can um really separate themselves from others, right down to clothing.
00:04:43.680 --> 00:04:58.000
I remember years ago I spoke to a friend of mine, and um she was uh new to exploring Christianity, she wasn't a believer in Christ, um, as in surrender her life, but she was a newer.
00:04:58.480 --> 00:05:01.040
Um she was just testing the waters, we'll say.
00:05:01.199 --> 00:05:19.120
And one of the hiccups that she had was this idea that, you know, if you have your garments, um, that uh, you know, your actual clothing, you can't have uh one type of you know, material on the top and another on the bottom.
00:05:19.199 --> 00:05:25.120
It has to be seamless, it has to be like just one continuous flowing piece of clothes.
00:05:25.439 --> 00:05:31.920
And she was taken aback by that and and found error in that, saying, like, why, why be such a stickler?
00:05:32.079 --> 00:05:33.680
Why is this a bad thing?
00:05:33.920 --> 00:05:53.680
Um, but interesting enough, the reason why God had commanded that was that the Israelites, you could literally look at them and see by their clothing that they were different than all the other people around them, um, that were living lives that were opposite uh to well, essentially holiness.
00:05:53.920 --> 00:06:03.920
And so you would stay away from them, you would isolate yourself or at least limit your contact so that you never took in qualities that you shouldn't have.
00:06:04.800 --> 00:06:25.279
So, you know, there's all these little nitty-gritty things throughout the whole book of Leviticus, but one of the parts that's I find personally interesting is that there's so many little tidbits in there that's like, what you mean that this was actually talking about Christ?
00:06:25.680 --> 00:06:27.519
You mean Jesus referenced this?
00:06:27.680 --> 00:06:28.639
Of course he did.
00:06:28.879 --> 00:06:41.839
Why wouldn't he have um, you know, one of the I guess misnomers is that you often hear, or not often, but you I I've heard people say, um, you know, the New Testament's the most important book.
00:06:42.079 --> 00:06:46.240
Um, and the old is, you know, it's not relevant anymore.
00:06:46.480 --> 00:06:54.879
You actually hear that said a lot today, in particular uh groups that, you know, some people say that they're following Christ, but their lives sort of say opposite.
00:06:54.959 --> 00:07:00.160
And usually you hear people like that talk about, you know, the old testament in a negative sense.
00:07:00.319 --> 00:07:01.839
Ah, yeah, that stuff don't really matter.
00:07:01.920 --> 00:07:06.000
That's as old as archaic, that don't really mean much today.
00:07:06.160 --> 00:07:20.240
But I would argue that if you think that the old testament is not needed, I think you need to have a little re-evaluation because that is what Jesus based his whole ministry on.
00:07:20.720 --> 00:07:25.680
That's what the disciples in Acts based their entire ministry on.
00:07:25.920 --> 00:07:26.240
Okay.
00:07:26.879 --> 00:07:32.639
Um everything they referenced was the prophets, everything they referenced was Moses.
00:07:33.199 --> 00:07:36.959
The only thing they knew, obviously, New Testament wasn't written then.
00:07:37.120 --> 00:07:39.439
The only thing that they knew was the old.
00:07:39.920 --> 00:07:46.959
The new is built on the old, and therefore it's the foundation of the Christian faith.
00:07:47.040 --> 00:08:00.000
It's the foundation really of Judaism, and so because of that, it's vital that as believers in Jesus that we understand the old testament, that we study it.
00:08:00.319 --> 00:08:09.279
So without further ado, um, going back right to chapter one, there's something that sort of stands out here.
00:08:09.439 --> 00:08:13.279
It talks about the procedures for burnt offering.
00:08:13.519 --> 00:08:15.120
Okay, what is the burnt offering?
00:08:15.279 --> 00:08:20.959
Well, essentially, uh, the burnt offering was this in chapter one, verse one.
00:08:21.279 --> 00:08:27.439
The Lord called to Moses from the tabernacle and said to him, Give the following instructions to the people of Israel.
00:08:27.680 --> 00:08:35.360
When you present an animal as an offering to the Lord, you may take it from your herd of cattle or your flock of sheep and goats.
00:08:35.679 --> 00:08:42.159
Um, and so they would go ahead and they would sacrifice uh animals, not people.
00:08:42.559 --> 00:09:07.039
And I want to be clear with that, it wasn't people, but there were all the there's many nations around Israel uh at this time period that were doing that, just so that we're clear to false gods such as Moloch uh and Ashrath and uh these other gods, uh these other demons, really entities uh that were worshipped and uh by the various groups surrounding them.
00:09:07.279 --> 00:09:11.440
And so this is very unique that there's no human sacrifice.
00:09:11.759 --> 00:09:15.440
God does not want humans uh to sacrifice themselves.
00:09:15.600 --> 00:09:21.440
No, it's the animals, um, and they are really symbolic, okay?
00:09:21.759 --> 00:09:33.759
So when you when they would go ahead and they would kill uh uh an animal for sacrificial purposes, uh it was done humanely, I guess pretty much they just cut it across the throat quick as possible.
00:09:33.919 --> 00:09:37.440
Uh they certainly wouldn't brutalize the the animal.
00:09:37.600 --> 00:09:48.159
Um what's interesting is that part of the sacrificial system, it had to have no defects, it had to be perfect.
00:09:48.480 --> 00:09:51.919
So you weren't just saying, Oh, I'm gonna give an offering today.
00:09:52.000 --> 00:09:57.519
You're not gonna go out and you're gonna pick the lamb or the goat uh or you know the bull.
00:09:57.679 --> 00:10:05.919
Um usually that would be something uh for the higher up people will say, uh like priests, and you usually wouldn't be sacrificing bulls.
00:10:06.080 --> 00:10:09.600
It was usually the lower end animals for the common folk like us.
00:10:10.639 --> 00:10:15.519
And uh unless you're not common, but if you're not, hey, cool, you're welcome to.
00:10:15.679 --> 00:10:33.200
Um but uh for um the the goats and uh the other animals uh when they would be sacrificed, um, it was done humanely as possible, and the blood is a representation of a covering, okay?
00:10:33.440 --> 00:10:37.360
Because we're all sinful, we're all sinful, I'm sinful, you're sinful.
00:10:37.519 --> 00:10:46.159
And through now, through the blood of Christ and his sacrifice on the cross, okay, here's the parallel, this is where they connect.
00:10:46.320 --> 00:10:52.080
Um, it forever covers our sin when we ask Jesus to come into our hearts.
00:10:52.240 --> 00:11:02.879
Well, back in the Old Testament, Jesus hadn't had come yet, so they would sacrifice animals, and the animals' blood would be the covering for them.
00:11:03.039 --> 00:11:07.759
And it was mandatory, it wasn't just like this is something I'm gonna do right now.
00:11:07.919 --> 00:11:10.960
No, this was part of everyday life.
00:11:11.200 --> 00:11:21.679
If you were a woman and you gave birth to uh a baby, um, you had to offer sacrifices uh to purify yourself.
00:11:21.759 --> 00:11:28.960
Um, you know, if you happened to touch a dead animal or a person that was deceased, you were considered unclean.
00:11:29.120 --> 00:11:31.600
Um, and then you would have to sacrifice.
00:11:31.759 --> 00:11:42.799
It was literally a part of society, and it was ingrained, no different than going to the grocery store and you're spending money to buy your groceries.
00:11:42.879 --> 00:11:43.600
That's expected.
00:11:43.679 --> 00:11:47.039
You're not supposed to shoplift, you're supposed to pay for your groceries.
00:11:47.279 --> 00:11:51.600
Well, in this case, that's how common it was also in this time period.
00:11:51.840 --> 00:11:56.799
You just did it because it was part of your society, it wasn't just some option.
00:11:57.679 --> 00:12:05.039
And I think that that's probably one of the parts that a lot of people don't know that this was ingrained in society.
00:12:05.200 --> 00:12:11.759
It's what you did every day of the, well, not every day of the week, but you know, weekly, monthly.
00:12:12.000 --> 00:12:14.720
Um, it's just who you all were.
00:12:14.799 --> 00:12:18.240
Um, and the whole community would be involved with it.
00:12:18.399 --> 00:12:25.440
So not only did it had to have no defects, but here's something that's really cool, and I want you to pay close attention to this.
00:12:25.840 --> 00:12:56.720
One of the other interesting parts about um the whole sacrificing system is that not only did the blood symbolically okay cover your sins and God could look at you, but one of the things that you had to do in verse four of chapter one says this lay your hand on the animal's head, and the Lord will accept its death in your place to purify you, making you right with him.
00:12:57.679 --> 00:13:13.519
Wow, how cool is that that the fact that not only did the blood do its work, but you symbolically laying your hand on its head, and then by the way, they would slaughter it when you had your hands laid on its head.
00:13:13.679 --> 00:13:24.639
So you're literally symbolically, okay, transferring your sin to that animal, and then it dies in your place.
00:13:25.200 --> 00:13:26.320
Sound familiar?
00:13:27.039 --> 00:13:37.600
Jesus symbolically and and quite literally taking our sin upon himself on the cross and dying in our place.
00:13:38.159 --> 00:13:46.639
Uh, it's the exact same thing as the book of Leviticus, again, all foreshadowing all these things that the Lord was doing.
00:13:47.279 --> 00:13:52.799
Uh, and then you know, the Lord would go ahead and uh accept the sacrifice.
00:13:53.600 --> 00:14:12.240
And another interesting part here is that um, you know, if you were not financially able to, let's say, give a goat, give a sheep, because hey, there's different people from all parts of society, different financial classes, you know, upper class, middle class, lower class.
00:14:12.480 --> 00:14:14.639
Um, and so what do you do?
00:14:14.879 --> 00:14:16.799
Is this just for the rich people?
00:14:16.960 --> 00:14:19.840
You know, is this just for the people that think that they're good?
00:14:20.080 --> 00:14:21.120
No, not at all.
00:14:21.360 --> 00:14:22.559
All are invited.
00:14:22.799 --> 00:14:42.480
In fact, we know that to be true because uh throughout the first uh eight chapters of Leviticus, there's multiple places there where God allows people to give sacrifices that are we'll call it cheaper, okay?
00:14:42.720 --> 00:15:03.679
Where so, and what I mean by cheaper is that it's more accessible for the common people, for instance, turtle doves or doves, um, you could sacrifice those that could be your offering, which by the way, that gives us a little glimpse into Jesus' early life and family.
00:15:03.840 --> 00:15:20.720
Uh, because when um Mary went to offer the the sacrifice at the temple, which she was supposed to do, she gave birth to Jesus, and so when she was going there to offer this ritual sacrifice for purification, what did she go in with?
00:15:20.960 --> 00:15:28.720
She never walked in with a lamb, she never walked in with a goat, she walked in with a turtle dove, with doves, okay.
00:15:29.039 --> 00:15:37.759
That gives us a sign that they were not well off, that they would have been poorer, uh, and that's all that they could bring in.
00:15:38.240 --> 00:15:42.960
Uh, but it that doesn't matter because it's your heart, okay?
00:15:43.200 --> 00:15:44.080
It's your heart.
00:15:44.240 --> 00:16:02.799
We know this to be true because when Jesus in the New Testament was standing in the temple and the Pharisee walked in and went clink, clink, clink, dropped all of his money in, and then the elderly lady came in, the widow, and she just dropped in, I think it was two uh, you know, coins super poor.
00:16:02.960 --> 00:16:06.240
Uh, Jesus said that she gave more than everybody else.
00:16:06.480 --> 00:16:10.080
Oh, guys, this is the reverse, okay, of society.
00:16:10.240 --> 00:16:20.080
Um, you know, I think there's misconceptions out there, you know, that you know, if you gotta go to church, you you gotta, you know, you gotta give all kinds of money and they want your money and all those things.
00:16:20.240 --> 00:16:21.519
No, that's baloney.
00:16:21.840 --> 00:16:23.840
Um, God just wants you to come as you are.
00:16:24.000 --> 00:16:30.399
With that said, there is a whole part of something called tithes and offerings, which is biblical.
00:16:30.559 --> 00:16:45.519
Um, and that's a whole nother discussion for another day, but it's actually commanded in the Bible that you give your tithes, which is about 10% of your income that you make, you give it back into the kingdom of God.
00:16:45.679 --> 00:16:46.000
Okay.
00:16:46.480 --> 00:16:49.039
Um, and that's talked about in the old testament.
00:16:49.120 --> 00:16:55.120
Um, and it's just uh, well, it's like a system, I suppose you could call it an underlying system.
00:16:55.279 --> 00:17:01.679
And it's important, and you be blessed when you do it because you're not just giving to an organization, you're giving to God Almighty.
00:17:01.759 --> 00:17:05.119
Um, it goes back into the kingdom.
00:17:05.839 --> 00:17:18.880
And um there's another thing, but before I get to that, I think it's time to pause because we're just gonna talk a little bit about drones for a moment, drones.
00:17:21.279 --> 00:17:43.440
So some of you may have noticed uh that in the news in the last uh we'll say two weeks, there's been some pretty uh heated moments that's happened in Europe, in particular, between the war between Ukraine and Russia, uh, which is interesting because we call it a war, but no one's actually declared war on each other.
00:17:43.599 --> 00:17:46.240
That's a legal thing that you're supposed to do.
00:17:46.400 --> 00:17:55.200
Instead, Russia called it a special operation, uh, and still to this day has not called it a war in all their legal documents.
00:17:55.359 --> 00:17:58.720
They've because if you declare war, you gotta justify and all those things.
00:17:58.799 --> 00:18:00.880
But anyway, that's a whole nother kettle of fish.
00:18:01.200 --> 00:18:17.039
But um, you know, Ukraine, um, and I'm a teacher, so I've been following Ukraine Ukraine quite closely with my students uh over the years, and uh there's a really cool website called Live U Map.
00:18:17.279 --> 00:18:27.680
So Live U letter U map, and it literally just shows where the line is moving in Ukraine between the front lines of the Ger of the uh Russians.
00:18:27.839 --> 00:18:49.599
I said Germans for a minute, but that's World War II and the Russians, but between the Russians and the Ukrainians, and of course the fighting in Ukraine has been going on for years now, and you know it's really weird because it's like World War I style fighting, trenches, dug-in positions mixed with crazy tech uh and drones everywhere.
00:18:49.759 --> 00:19:02.480
Um, there's actually a uh semi-autonomous robot now that has a 50 caliber machine gun on it, and there for I think it was a month, it held a position by itself for one month.
00:19:02.640 --> 00:19:13.839
Like it's just insane, controlled by a guy like a couple of kilometers back, uh, just using remote control and just like mowing down troops, just madness, the technology.
00:19:14.079 --> 00:19:30.480
But we're talking about drones just for a moment because there was something in the news there about two weeks ago where in Ukraine, this is two weeks from the film, you know, the recording of today's episode, which is August 6, 2026, in Ukraine.
00:19:30.799 --> 00:19:46.960
Um there was an incident where they launched a drone, and the drone flew into obviously Russian airspace where they've been trading drones back and forth, little drones, big drones, massive drones full of explosives, and essentially suicide drones.
00:19:47.039 --> 00:19:49.839
You just fly them in to your target.
00:19:50.000 --> 00:19:52.799
And uh one drone got caught on camera.
00:19:52.960 --> 00:20:06.960
It was at a uh Russian beach resort, and it sounded like a machine gun had been firing at it, and so the drone was coming down and it landed on the beach, and you can pretty much guess then what happened.
00:20:07.039 --> 00:20:11.440
But uh sadly, I think it was up to seven people were killed, a couple of kids as well.
00:20:11.680 --> 00:20:15.039
Um, and it was um I want to call it a turning point.
00:20:15.200 --> 00:20:20.319
I'm gonna call it a turning point right now, actually, because I think something shift in Ukraine.
00:20:20.480 --> 00:20:32.720
Um, prior, it was going after the Russians, were going after Ukraine's infrastructure, their power plants, their water sources, all these things, military targets as well.
00:20:32.880 --> 00:20:34.559
Ukraine started retaliating.
00:20:34.720 --> 00:20:37.839
Now Ukraine's hit Amazon warehouses over there.
00:20:38.160 --> 00:20:48.960
Um, and now this next level of um we'll call it escalation, I think is really gonna spark this war to it's gonna get dirty now.
00:20:49.039 --> 00:20:51.039
Uh dirtier than it has been.
00:20:51.200 --> 00:20:54.000
Um, and the lines are gonna start being blurred a little bit.
00:20:54.160 --> 00:20:55.279
Why do I think that?
00:20:55.519 --> 00:21:13.599
Well, a couple of I think it was a couple of days or maybe maybe a week after this happened, there's a viral video going on right now of a Ukrainian vegetable uh seller, this dude on the side of the road selling veggies from a van, and it's bizarre.
00:21:13.759 --> 00:21:15.200
I've never seen this in my life.
00:21:15.279 --> 00:21:25.920
There's a drone, uh, a black drone, probably the size of my Mondor screen, that's literally chasing the guy around his vehicle.
00:21:26.079 --> 00:21:28.000
It's almost comical, actually.
00:21:28.160 --> 00:21:40.880
If you put clown music to it, it would sound very comical because the guy is literally looking up, he's an older fella, probably in his 50s or so, looking up at it, and then moves around the side of the vehicle.
00:21:41.039 --> 00:21:48.640
Um, and then um then he goes back around to the other side, and it literally just rints and repeats.
00:21:48.720 --> 00:21:51.759
He's like he's just going in a circle, it's like playing a weird game of tag.
00:21:52.240 --> 00:21:59.759
The only difference is he actually said to the drone camera, which obviously I'm assuming there's audio play.
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:04.559
Possibly that they can hear from the operator's side that I'm a vegetable.
00:22:04.640 --> 00:22:06.400
He's like, uh, I'm a vegetable seller.
00:22:06.480 --> 00:22:10.160
Sorry, not that he's a vegetable, he's definitely not a vegetable because he's moving quite fast.
00:22:10.319 --> 00:22:22.880
Um, but he is pointing at the veggies, he's like, I'm selling veggies, and then you see him do like two or three laps around his vegetable van, and then when he goes one way, the drone goes back the other way.
00:22:23.279 --> 00:22:28.000
It's just flying in the sky, like probably head height, just a little bit above head height.
00:22:28.319 --> 00:22:37.039
Um, and uh and the drone goes back the other way, and then just boom, plows right into the side of his van, the same side that he's on.
00:22:37.279 --> 00:22:41.759
So people have called it a safari drone hunting.
00:22:42.000 --> 00:22:47.920
That's like you don't have a chance, you're not really getting away like a safari, it's closed in.
00:22:48.160 --> 00:22:54.960
So things are really changing, and um, that's one of the things that I'm really enjoying about uh this segment.
00:22:55.119 --> 00:22:58.880
I hope you're enjoying it too, is that you know, we're just talking about some random things.
00:22:59.039 --> 00:23:06.079
Well, this is random, but things are definitely starting to change up in Ukraine and Russia.
00:23:06.240 --> 00:23:09.119
So where this is gonna go from here, I don't know.
00:23:09.200 --> 00:23:29.599
But the fact that we saw a beach drone bombing followed quickly by a Russian response of literally hunting a dude selling veggies is um is something that I think is giving us an idea that stuff is gonna shake up really quick and not in the positive.
00:23:34.079 --> 00:23:34.720
All right.
00:23:35.440 --> 00:23:37.440
I hope you enjoyed that segment.
00:23:37.599 --> 00:23:45.279
Let's dive deep again, one more time, into the book of Leviticus, just so that we're clear.
00:23:45.440 --> 00:23:50.160
I've only scraped the surface um on Leviticus.
00:23:50.240 --> 00:23:55.200
There's so much to it, but let's I talked earlier about foreshadowing.
00:23:55.359 --> 00:24:02.640
Let's look at something that I've I found particularly interesting where um there's a scripture here.
00:24:03.599 --> 00:24:04.880
Let's jump to Matthew.
00:24:04.960 --> 00:24:06.240
Let's go to Matthew 5.
00:24:06.319 --> 00:24:06.640
Ready?
00:24:06.799 --> 00:24:08.960
Matthew 5, verse 13.
00:24:09.519 --> 00:24:12.079
You are the salt of the earth.
00:24:12.400 --> 00:24:15.519
But what good is salt if it's lost its flavor?
00:24:15.759 --> 00:24:17.440
Can you make it salty again?
00:24:17.599 --> 00:24:22.160
It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
00:24:22.880 --> 00:24:30.079
And so Jesus is talking about here, um, you know, about salt and and and why it's good.
00:24:30.160 --> 00:24:35.279
And as believers in Christ, um, believers in Christ are supposed to be salty.
00:24:35.359 --> 00:24:40.079
We're supposed to be sharing the gospel, we're supposed to be preserving.
00:24:40.160 --> 00:24:42.559
That's what salt does, uh, the gospel.
00:24:42.640 --> 00:24:44.720
We're supposed to be making it taste good.
00:24:44.880 --> 00:24:47.359
That means, you know, you you want to know Jesus?
00:24:47.519 --> 00:24:52.319
Well, come on, here's some great things, uh, great reasons why.
00:24:52.480 --> 00:25:00.079
Number one, you salvation through Christ alone, uh, but then eternal life, and then, but not just that, but you live an amazing life now.
00:25:00.400 --> 00:25:17.519
And what's interesting, if I jump down uh a couple of uh verses just below this here, okay, um, there is a scripture, very interesting, good timing, about Matthew 5, 17.
00:25:18.480 --> 00:25:22.319
Jesus said this, don't misunderstand why I have come.
00:25:22.640 --> 00:25:28.880
I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets.
00:25:29.119 --> 00:25:35.200
No, I came to what he came to accomplish their purpose.
00:25:36.960 --> 00:25:38.720
That's interesting.
00:25:39.519 --> 00:25:43.119
Jesus never came to get rid of the law.
00:25:43.599 --> 00:25:46.640
Okay, he came to fulfill it.
00:25:47.039 --> 00:25:48.480
There's a difference.
00:25:49.039 --> 00:25:57.599
Um, just like you know, in today we see a lot of times um, you know, people want to erase history.
00:25:57.839 --> 00:26:01.200
Oh, we don't want to talk about this person and what they've done.
00:26:01.359 --> 00:26:03.119
Let's pull down their statue.
00:26:03.440 --> 00:26:06.559
No, that's not how you deal with these things.
00:26:06.799 --> 00:26:08.960
You're supposed to learn from them.
00:26:09.200 --> 00:26:12.799
If you have a picture of someone, so for instance, I remember it was John A.
00:26:12.960 --> 00:26:26.559
McDonald, uh, you know, the founding father of Canada, um, you know, Parliament, one of the things that, you know, he went ahead and he did was that um, you know, he his his um policies towards Aboriginal people was super crappy.
00:26:26.720 --> 00:26:28.000
So what did they want to do?
00:26:28.160 --> 00:26:35.039
And I say they, I refer to a particular group of people that wanted to just erase the history of him, take down his statue.
00:26:35.200 --> 00:26:35.839
He shouldn't be up.
00:26:35.920 --> 00:26:37.839
Look at what he did to the Aboriginal people.
00:26:38.000 --> 00:26:41.200
Yes, there's no doubt he did bad things.
00:26:41.519 --> 00:26:44.880
However, he also did good things too.
00:26:45.200 --> 00:26:49.759
Do we pull down his statue to erase the memory of him because of that?
00:26:50.000 --> 00:26:51.200
I would argue no.
00:26:51.440 --> 00:26:52.319
What the point of that?
00:26:52.480 --> 00:26:53.519
What's the point of that?
00:26:53.759 --> 00:26:56.079
You'll never learn then from his mistakes.
00:26:56.319 --> 00:26:57.440
And that's the best.
00:26:57.519 --> 00:26:58.559
That's the best way to learn.
00:26:58.640 --> 00:27:08.000
You learn from mistakes, and by hauling down statues or erasing people from history does not make you learn any better.
00:27:08.240 --> 00:27:10.640
In fact, I would argue it makes it worse.
00:27:10.880 --> 00:27:23.759
So, one last thing before we end off today's episode is this little interesting part I had just read about, you know, Jesus talking about, you know, you are the salt of the earth.
00:27:24.000 --> 00:27:27.920
Well, uh, something that's interesting about that is that that's actually found.
00:27:28.079 --> 00:27:29.759
Where to drum roll.
00:27:30.160 --> 00:27:36.160
Actually, no drum rolls needed because we're already in Leviticus 2, uh, verse 13.
00:27:36.319 --> 00:27:37.279
What does it say?
00:27:37.599 --> 00:27:46.079
Season all your grain offerings with salt to remind you of God's eternal covenant.
00:27:46.400 --> 00:27:50.799
Never forget to add salt to your grain offerings.
00:27:51.200 --> 00:27:52.240
So cool.
00:27:52.480 --> 00:27:57.920
Jesus is talking about salt in the in the new, is right back there in the commandments in the old.
00:27:58.160 --> 00:28:05.839
Um, the salt is important and you need it, it it helps preserve, and that's what he wanted.
00:28:05.920 --> 00:28:09.759
And it was a reminder of God's eternal covenant.
00:28:10.079 --> 00:28:17.200
So, something important to remember today that Leviticus, and this is again only scraping the surface.
00:28:17.359 --> 00:28:21.039
Yes, there's definitely parts of Leviticus that's boring, there's no doubt.
00:28:21.200 --> 00:28:29.359
However, there's so many parts in that book that are really, really eye-opening.
00:28:30.079 --> 00:28:42.799
And if you look with a lens, okay, acknowledging that in the New Testament, it also goes back to the old, that they're both important, that they both need each other.
00:28:43.119 --> 00:28:54.960
That's when you won't just look at Leviticus as, oh, I gotta get through this book because I'm reading it in a Bible plan, but rather it's something where you will um hopefully will change your perspective.
00:28:55.200 --> 00:28:57.440
Where am I looking for Christ right now?
00:28:57.920 --> 00:29:00.640
Am I looking how to improve myself right now?
00:29:00.960 --> 00:29:10.160
Yeah, I'm not gonna go outside and take a goat and just cut his throat on my front lawn and offer burnt sacrifices to the Lord.
00:29:10.400 --> 00:29:21.680
Um, however, I I now know that Christ has covered my sin and that I am accepted in the kingdom.
00:29:21.920 --> 00:29:24.799
Um, and that is an encouraging thought.
00:29:24.960 --> 00:29:39.920
So I hope you enjoyed today's episode where we dived deep into the book of Leviticus, scraping the surface on some uh topics, but also looking a little bit closer at some other ones.
00:29:40.160 --> 00:29:44.880
So tune in next time for another segment of Diving Deep
00:00:04.480 --> 00:00:07.599
Hey, welcome back to the Second Chance podcast.
00:00:07.839 --> 00:00:11.839
My name is Christian, and I'm glad that you're here with us today.
00:00:15.839 --> 00:00:20.160
So we have a nice little treat in store for you today.
00:00:20.399 --> 00:00:24.879
Um we've decided that for the podcast, we're gonna try out something new.
00:00:25.039 --> 00:00:36.159
We're actually gonna do a little bit of a branch, and that's where um every week to every two weeks, there's gonna be an episode dropped called uh Diving Deep.
00:00:36.479 --> 00:01:02.479
00:01:02.640 --> 00:01:04.000
How on earth did that happen?
00:01:04.159 --> 00:01:13.519
Um well, those kind of things and a bit of a wider context of what's going on in the world at times.
00:01:13.920 --> 00:01:17.359
But uh yeah, I'm pretty excited to start this new series.
00:01:17.439 --> 00:01:26.159
We wanted to give you more consistent episodes from the Second Chance podcast, and so yes, Evan's still on the show.
00:01:26.319 --> 00:01:29.760
Myself and Evan are gonna be still doing episodes together, of course.
00:01:29.840 --> 00:01:33.280
Uh, but for this one here, I will be the singular host.
00:01:33.359 --> 00:01:35.680
You'll see that in the actual name.
00:01:35.920 --> 00:01:38.400
So uh called Diving Deep.
00:01:38.560 --> 00:01:46.000
So without further ado, we're gonna hop into today's topic, which is an interesting one.
00:01:46.239 --> 00:01:48.239
The book of Leviticus.
00:01:48.879 --> 00:01:59.040
Hands down, probably one of the most, I would say widely accepted boring books.
00:01:59.359 --> 00:02:00.799
Am I allowed to say that?
00:02:01.040 --> 00:02:05.760
So, probably one of the most boring books is what I've heard growing up.
00:02:05.920 --> 00:02:22.000
Um, when I talk to other people and they talk about the Old Testament, um, they often refer to Leviticus, it's just super boring, it's just a bunch of lists and rules and offerings and sins and you know what how not to do something.
00:02:22.240 --> 00:02:24.319
And uh, but you know what?
00:02:24.719 --> 00:02:44.719
I'm hoping today that I'm gonna burst a little bit of that bubble for you because I've fallen in love with the book of Leviticus, and maybe it's a bit of I'm a bit of an old soul, I don't know, but when it comes towards that book, there's so much awesome um truth that's in there.
00:02:45.360 --> 00:02:56.400
There's all kinds of foreshadowing uh to Jesus, and really, as they say in Pirates of the Caribbean, it's more of a set of guidelines, anyway.
00:02:56.639 --> 00:03:27.919
00:03:28.719 --> 00:03:35.520
So we're gonna be exploring the book of Leviticus today, and um it's really, really interesting.
00:03:35.680 --> 00:03:39.439
So let's just start off first off with you know, what is Leviticus?
00:03:39.520 --> 00:03:49.280
Well, Leviticus is uh a book written by Moses, it's part of the Pentateuch, and um it's uh the first five books of the Bible.
00:03:49.439 --> 00:04:11.439
This is book number three in the Pentateuch, and um Leviticus essentially um was uh unlike the other books, like yeah, your Genesis, the story of creation, uh and then everything leading up to the Exodus, which is Moses and the Israelites, Leviticus is pretty much written in like one place.
00:04:12.080 --> 00:04:43.519
Uh it's near um the the mountain there of um where God first came down, and Moses uh starts writing um you know all of these things down, which talks specifically about uh the law uh and you know how it works, and you know how as you know uh believers in God, uh, you know, people can um really separate themselves from others, right down to clothing.
00:04:43.680 --> 00:04:58.000
I remember years ago I spoke to a friend of mine, and um she was uh new to exploring Christianity, she wasn't a believer in Christ, um, as in surrender her life, but she was a newer.
00:04:58.480 --> 00:05:01.040
Um she was just testing the waters, we'll say.
00:05:01.199 --> 00:05:19.120
And one of the hiccups that she had was this idea that, you know, if you have your garments, um, that uh, you know, your actual clothing, you can't have uh one type of you know, material on the top and another on the bottom.
00:05:19.199 --> 00:05:25.120
It has to be seamless, it has to be like just one continuous flowing piece of clothes.
00:05:25.439 --> 00:05:31.920
And she was taken aback by that and and found error in that, saying, like, why, why be such a stickler?
00:05:32.079 --> 00:05:33.680
Why is this a bad thing?
00:05:33.920 --> 00:05:53.680
Um, but interesting enough, the reason why God had commanded that was that the Israelites, you could literally look at them and see by their clothing that they were different than all the other people around them, um, that were living lives that were opposite uh to well, essentially holiness.
00:05:53.920 --> 00:06:03.920
And so you would stay away from them, you would isolate yourself or at least limit your contact so that you never took in qualities that you shouldn't have.
00:06:04.800 --> 00:06:25.279
So, you know, there's all these little nitty-gritty things throughout the whole book of Leviticus, but one of the parts that's I find personally interesting is that there's so many little tidbits in there that's like, what you mean that this was actually talking about Christ?
00:06:25.680 --> 00:06:27.519
You mean Jesus referenced this?
00:06:27.680 --> 00:06:28.639
Of course he did.
00:06:28.879 --> 00:06:41.839
Why wouldn't he have um, you know, one of the I guess misnomers is that you often hear, or not often, but you I I've heard people say, um, you know, the New Testament's the most important book.
00:06:42.079 --> 00:06:46.240
Um, and the old is, you know, it's not relevant anymore.
00:06:46.480 --> 00:06:54.879
You actually hear that said a lot today, in particular uh groups that, you know, some people say that they're following Christ, but their lives sort of say opposite.
00:06:54.959 --> 00:07:00.160
And usually you hear people like that talk about, you know, the old testament in a negative sense.
00:07:00.319 --> 00:07:01.839
Ah, yeah, that stuff don't really matter.
00:07:01.920 --> 00:07:06.000
That's as old as archaic, that don't really mean much today.
00:07:06.160 --> 00:07:20.240
But I would argue that if you think that the old testament is not needed, I think you need to have a little re-evaluation because that is what Jesus based his whole ministry on.
00:07:20.720 --> 00:07:25.680
That's what the disciples in Acts based their entire ministry on.
00:07:25.920 --> 00:07:26.240
Okay.
00:07:26.879 --> 00:07:32.639
Um everything they referenced was the prophets, everything they referenced was Moses.
00:07:33.199 --> 00:07:36.959
The only thing they knew, obviously, New Testament wasn't written then.
00:07:37.120 --> 00:07:39.439
The only thing that they knew was the old.
00:07:39.920 --> 00:07:46.959
The new is built on the old, and therefore it's the foundation of the Christian faith.
00:07:47.040 --> 00:08:00.000
It's the foundation really of Judaism, and so because of that, it's vital that as believers in Jesus that we understand the old testament, that we study it.
00:08:00.319 --> 00:08:09.279
So without further ado, um, going back right to chapter one, there's something that sort of stands out here.
00:08:09.439 --> 00:08:13.279
It talks about the procedures for burnt offering.
00:08:13.519 --> 00:08:15.120
Okay, what is the burnt offering?
00:08:15.279 --> 00:08:20.959
Well, essentially, uh, the burnt offering was this in chapter one, verse one.
00:08:21.279 --> 00:08:27.439
The Lord called to Moses from the tabernacle and said to him, Give the following instructions to the people of Israel.
00:08:27.680 --> 00:08:35.360
When you present an animal as an offering to the Lord, you may take it from your herd of cattle or your flock of sheep and goats.
00:08:35.679 --> 00:08:42.159
Um, and so they would go ahead and they would sacrifice uh animals, not people.
00:08:42.559 --> 00:09:07.039
00:09:07.279 --> 00:09:11.440
And so this is very unique that there's no human sacrifice.
00:09:11.759 --> 00:09:15.440
God does not want humans uh to sacrifice themselves.
00:09:15.600 --> 00:09:21.440
No, it's the animals, um, and they are really symbolic, okay?
00:09:21.759 --> 00:09:33.759
So when you when they would go ahead and they would kill uh uh an animal for sacrificial purposes, uh it was done humanely, I guess pretty much they just cut it across the throat quick as possible.
00:09:33.919 --> 00:09:37.440
Uh they certainly wouldn't brutalize the the animal.
00:09:37.600 --> 00:09:48.159
Um what's interesting is that part of the sacrificial system, it had to have no defects, it had to be perfect.
00:09:48.480 --> 00:09:51.919
So you weren't just saying, Oh, I'm gonna give an offering today.
00:09:52.000 --> 00:09:57.519
You're not gonna go out and you're gonna pick the lamb or the goat uh or you know the bull.
00:09:57.679 --> 00:10:05.919
Um usually that would be something uh for the higher up people will say, uh like priests, and you usually wouldn't be sacrificing bulls.
00:10:06.080 --> 00:10:09.600
It was usually the lower end animals for the common folk like us.
00:10:10.639 --> 00:10:15.519
And uh unless you're not common, but if you're not, hey, cool, you're welcome to.
00:10:15.679 --> 00:10:33.200
Um but uh for um the the goats and uh the other animals uh when they would be sacrificed, um, it was done humanely as possible, and the blood is a representation of a covering, okay?
00:10:33.440 --> 00:10:37.360
Because we're all sinful, we're all sinful, I'm sinful, you're sinful.
00:10:37.519 --> 00:10:46.159
And through now, through the blood of Christ and his sacrifice on the cross, okay, here's the parallel, this is where they connect.
00:10:46.320 --> 00:10:52.080
Um, it forever covers our sin when we ask Jesus to come into our hearts.
00:10:52.240 --> 00:11:02.879
Well, back in the Old Testament, Jesus hadn't had come yet, so they would sacrifice animals, and the animals' blood would be the covering for them.
00:11:03.039 --> 00:11:07.759
And it was mandatory, it wasn't just like this is something I'm gonna do right now.
00:11:07.919 --> 00:11:10.960
No, this was part of everyday life.
00:11:11.200 --> 00:11:21.679
If you were a woman and you gave birth to uh a baby, um, you had to offer sacrifices uh to purify yourself.
00:11:21.759 --> 00:11:28.960
Um, you know, if you happened to touch a dead animal or a person that was deceased, you were considered unclean.
00:11:29.120 --> 00:11:31.600
Um, and then you would have to sacrifice.
00:11:31.759 --> 00:11:42.799
It was literally a part of society, and it was ingrained, no different than going to the grocery store and you're spending money to buy your groceries.
00:11:42.879 --> 00:11:43.600
That's expected.
00:11:43.679 --> 00:11:47.039
You're not supposed to shoplift, you're supposed to pay for your groceries.
00:11:47.279 --> 00:11:51.600
Well, in this case, that's how common it was also in this time period.
00:11:51.840 --> 00:11:56.799
You just did it because it was part of your society, it wasn't just some option.
00:11:57.679 --> 00:12:05.039
And I think that that's probably one of the parts that a lot of people don't know that this was ingrained in society.
00:12:05.200 --> 00:12:11.759
It's what you did every day of the, well, not every day of the week, but you know, weekly, monthly.
00:12:12.000 --> 00:12:14.720
Um, it's just who you all were.
00:12:14.799 --> 00:12:18.240
Um, and the whole community would be involved with it.
00:12:18.399 --> 00:12:25.440
So not only did it had to have no defects, but here's something that's really cool, and I want you to pay close attention to this.
00:12:25.840 --> 00:12:56.720
00:12:57.679 --> 00:13:13.519
Wow, how cool is that that the fact that not only did the blood do its work, but you symbolically laying your hand on its head, and then by the way, they would slaughter it when you had your hands laid on its head.
00:13:13.679 --> 00:13:24.639
So you're literally symbolically, okay, transferring your sin to that animal, and then it dies in your place.
00:13:25.200 --> 00:13:26.320
Sound familiar?
00:13:27.039 --> 00:13:37.600
Jesus symbolically and and quite literally taking our sin upon himself on the cross and dying in our place.
00:13:38.159 --> 00:13:46.639
Uh, it's the exact same thing as the book of Leviticus, again, all foreshadowing all these things that the Lord was doing.
00:13:47.279 --> 00:13:52.799
Uh, and then you know, the Lord would go ahead and uh accept the sacrifice.
00:13:53.600 --> 00:14:12.240
And another interesting part here is that um, you know, if you were not financially able to, let's say, give a goat, give a sheep, because hey, there's different people from all parts of society, different financial classes, you know, upper class, middle class, lower class.
00:14:12.480 --> 00:14:14.639
Um, and so what do you do?
00:14:14.879 --> 00:14:16.799
Is this just for the rich people?
00:14:16.960 --> 00:14:19.840
You know, is this just for the people that think that they're good?
00:14:20.080 --> 00:14:21.120
No, not at all.
00:14:21.360 --> 00:14:22.559
All are invited.
00:14:22.799 --> 00:14:42.480
In fact, we know that to be true because uh throughout the first uh eight chapters of Leviticus, there's multiple places there where God allows people to give sacrifices that are we'll call it cheaper, okay?
00:14:42.720 --> 00:15:03.679
Where so, and what I mean by cheaper is that it's more accessible for the common people, for instance, turtle doves or doves, um, you could sacrifice those that could be your offering, which by the way, that gives us a little glimpse into Jesus' early life and family.
00:15:03.840 --> 00:15:20.720
Uh, because when um Mary went to offer the the sacrifice at the temple, which she was supposed to do, she gave birth to Jesus, and so when she was going there to offer this ritual sacrifice for purification, what did she go in with?
00:15:20.960 --> 00:15:28.720
She never walked in with a lamb, she never walked in with a goat, she walked in with a turtle dove, with doves, okay.
00:15:29.039 --> 00:15:37.759
That gives us a sign that they were not well off, that they would have been poorer, uh, and that's all that they could bring in.
00:15:38.240 --> 00:15:42.960
Uh, but it that doesn't matter because it's your heart, okay?
00:15:43.200 --> 00:15:44.080
It's your heart.
00:15:44.240 --> 00:16:02.799
We know this to be true because when Jesus in the New Testament was standing in the temple and the Pharisee walked in and went clink, clink, clink, dropped all of his money in, and then the elderly lady came in, the widow, and she just dropped in, I think it was two uh, you know, coins super poor.
00:16:02.960 --> 00:16:06.240
Uh, Jesus said that she gave more than everybody else.
00:16:06.480 --> 00:16:10.080
Oh, guys, this is the reverse, okay, of society.
00:16:10.240 --> 00:16:20.080
Um, you know, I think there's misconceptions out there, you know, that you know, if you gotta go to church, you you gotta, you know, you gotta give all kinds of money and they want your money and all those things.
00:16:20.240 --> 00:16:21.519
No, that's baloney.
00:16:21.840 --> 00:16:23.840
Um, God just wants you to come as you are.
00:16:24.000 --> 00:16:30.399
With that said, there is a whole part of something called tithes and offerings, which is biblical.
00:16:30.559 --> 00:16:45.519
Um, and that's a whole nother discussion for another day, but it's actually commanded in the Bible that you give your tithes, which is about 10% of your income that you make, you give it back into the kingdom of God.
00:16:45.679 --> 00:16:46.000
Okay.
00:16:46.480 --> 00:16:49.039
Um, and that's talked about in the old testament.
00:16:49.120 --> 00:16:55.120
Um, and it's just uh, well, it's like a system, I suppose you could call it an underlying system.
00:16:55.279 --> 00:17:01.679
And it's important, and you be blessed when you do it because you're not just giving to an organization, you're giving to God Almighty.
00:17:01.759 --> 00:17:05.119
Um, it goes back into the kingdom.
00:17:05.839 --> 00:17:18.880
And um there's another thing, but before I get to that, I think it's time to pause because we're just gonna talk a little bit about drones for a moment, drones.
00:17:21.279 --> 00:17:43.440
So some of you may have noticed uh that in the news in the last uh we'll say two weeks, there's been some pretty uh heated moments that's happened in Europe, in particular, between the war between Ukraine and Russia, uh, which is interesting because we call it a war, but no one's actually declared war on each other.
00:17:43.599 --> 00:17:46.240
That's a legal thing that you're supposed to do.
00:17:46.400 --> 00:17:55.200
Instead, Russia called it a special operation, uh, and still to this day has not called it a war in all their legal documents.
00:17:55.359 --> 00:17:58.720
They've because if you declare war, you gotta justify and all those things.
00:17:58.799 --> 00:18:00.880
But anyway, that's a whole nother kettle of fish.
00:18:01.200 --> 00:18:17.039
But um, you know, Ukraine, um, and I'm a teacher, so I've been following Ukraine Ukraine quite closely with my students uh over the years, and uh there's a really cool website called Live U Map.
00:18:17.279 --> 00:18:27.680
So Live U letter U map, and it literally just shows where the line is moving in Ukraine between the front lines of the Ger of the uh Russians.
00:18:27.839 --> 00:18:49.599
00:18:49.759 --> 00:19:02.480
Um, there's actually a uh semi-autonomous robot now that has a 50 caliber machine gun on it, and there for I think it was a month, it held a position by itself for one month.
00:19:02.640 --> 00:19:13.839
Like it's just insane, controlled by a guy like a couple of kilometers back, uh, just using remote control and just like mowing down troops, just madness, the technology.
00:19:14.079 --> 00:19:30.480
But we're talking about drones just for a moment because there was something in the news there about two weeks ago where in Ukraine, this is two weeks from the film, you know, the recording of today's episode, which is August 6, 2026, in Ukraine.
00:19:30.799 --> 00:19:46.960
Um there was an incident where they launched a drone, and the drone flew into obviously Russian airspace where they've been trading drones back and forth, little drones, big drones, massive drones full of explosives, and essentially suicide drones.
00:19:47.039 --> 00:19:49.839
You just fly them in to your target.
00:19:50.000 --> 00:19:52.799
And uh one drone got caught on camera.
00:19:52.960 --> 00:20:06.960
It was at a uh Russian beach resort, and it sounded like a machine gun had been firing at it, and so the drone was coming down and it landed on the beach, and you can pretty much guess then what happened.
00:20:07.039 --> 00:20:11.440
But uh sadly, I think it was up to seven people were killed, a couple of kids as well.
00:20:11.680 --> 00:20:15.039
Um, and it was um I want to call it a turning point.
00:20:15.200 --> 00:20:20.319
I'm gonna call it a turning point right now, actually, because I think something shift in Ukraine.
00:20:20.480 --> 00:20:32.720
Um, prior, it was going after the Russians, were going after Ukraine's infrastructure, their power plants, their water sources, all these things, military targets as well.
00:20:32.880 --> 00:20:34.559
Ukraine started retaliating.
00:20:34.720 --> 00:20:37.839
Now Ukraine's hit Amazon warehouses over there.
00:20:38.160 --> 00:20:48.960
Um, and now this next level of um we'll call it escalation, I think is really gonna spark this war to it's gonna get dirty now.
00:20:49.039 --> 00:20:51.039
Uh dirtier than it has been.
00:20:51.200 --> 00:20:54.000
Um, and the lines are gonna start being blurred a little bit.
00:20:54.160 --> 00:20:55.279
Why do I think that?
00:20:55.519 --> 00:21:13.599
Well, a couple of I think it was a couple of days or maybe maybe a week after this happened, there's a viral video going on right now of a Ukrainian vegetable uh seller, this dude on the side of the road selling veggies from a van, and it's bizarre.
00:21:13.759 --> 00:21:15.200
I've never seen this in my life.
00:21:15.279 --> 00:21:25.920
There's a drone, uh, a black drone, probably the size of my Mondor screen, that's literally chasing the guy around his vehicle.
00:21:26.079 --> 00:21:28.000
It's almost comical, actually.
00:21:28.160 --> 00:21:40.880
If you put clown music to it, it would sound very comical because the guy is literally looking up, he's an older fella, probably in his 50s or so, looking up at it, and then moves around the side of the vehicle.
00:21:41.039 --> 00:21:48.640
Um, and then um then he goes back around to the other side, and it literally just rints and repeats.
00:21:48.720 --> 00:21:51.759
He's like he's just going in a circle, it's like playing a weird game of tag.
00:21:52.240 --> 00:21:59.759
The only difference is he actually said to the drone camera, which obviously I'm assuming there's audio play.
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:04.559
Possibly that they can hear from the operator's side that I'm a vegetable.
00:22:04.640 --> 00:22:06.400
He's like, uh, I'm a vegetable seller.
00:22:06.480 --> 00:22:10.160
Sorry, not that he's a vegetable, he's definitely not a vegetable because he's moving quite fast.
00:22:10.319 --> 00:22:22.880
Um, but he is pointing at the veggies, he's like, I'm selling veggies, and then you see him do like two or three laps around his vegetable van, and then when he goes one way, the drone goes back the other way.
00:22:23.279 --> 00:22:28.000
It's just flying in the sky, like probably head height, just a little bit above head height.
00:22:28.319 --> 00:22:37.039
Um, and uh and the drone goes back the other way, and then just boom, plows right into the side of his van, the same side that he's on.
00:22:37.279 --> 00:22:41.759
So people have called it a safari drone hunting.
00:22:42.000 --> 00:22:47.920
That's like you don't have a chance, you're not really getting away like a safari, it's closed in.
00:22:48.160 --> 00:22:54.960
So things are really changing, and um, that's one of the things that I'm really enjoying about uh this segment.
00:22:55.119 --> 00:22:58.880
I hope you're enjoying it too, is that you know, we're just talking about some random things.
00:22:59.039 --> 00:23:06.079
Well, this is random, but things are definitely starting to change up in Ukraine and Russia.
00:23:06.240 --> 00:23:09.119
So where this is gonna go from here, I don't know.
00:23:09.200 --> 00:23:29.599
But the fact that we saw a beach drone bombing followed quickly by a Russian response of literally hunting a dude selling veggies is um is something that I think is giving us an idea that stuff is gonna shake up really quick and not in the positive.
00:23:34.079 --> 00:23:34.720
All right.
00:23:35.440 --> 00:23:37.440
I hope you enjoyed that segment.
00:23:37.599 --> 00:23:45.279
Let's dive deep again, one more time, into the book of Leviticus, just so that we're clear.
00:23:45.440 --> 00:23:50.160
I've only scraped the surface um on Leviticus.
00:23:50.240 --> 00:23:55.200
There's so much to it, but let's I talked earlier about foreshadowing.
00:23:55.359 --> 00:24:02.640
Let's look at something that I've I found particularly interesting where um there's a scripture here.
00:24:03.599 --> 00:24:04.880
Let's jump to Matthew.
00:24:04.960 --> 00:24:06.240
Let's go to Matthew 5.
00:24:06.319 --> 00:24:06.640
Ready?
00:24:06.799 --> 00:24:08.960
Matthew 5, verse 13.
00:24:09.519 --> 00:24:12.079
You are the salt of the earth.
00:24:12.400 --> 00:24:15.519
But what good is salt if it's lost its flavor?
00:24:15.759 --> 00:24:17.440
Can you make it salty again?
00:24:17.599 --> 00:24:22.160
It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
00:24:22.880 --> 00:24:30.079
And so Jesus is talking about here, um, you know, about salt and and and why it's good.
00:24:30.160 --> 00:24:35.279
And as believers in Christ, um, believers in Christ are supposed to be salty.
00:24:35.359 --> 00:24:40.079
We're supposed to be sharing the gospel, we're supposed to be preserving.
00:24:40.160 --> 00:24:42.559
That's what salt does, uh, the gospel.
00:24:42.640 --> 00:24:44.720
We're supposed to be making it taste good.
00:24:44.880 --> 00:24:47.359
That means, you know, you you want to know Jesus?
00:24:47.519 --> 00:24:52.319
Well, come on, here's some great things, uh, great reasons why.
00:24:52.480 --> 00:25:00.079
Number one, you salvation through Christ alone, uh, but then eternal life, and then, but not just that, but you live an amazing life now.
00:25:00.400 --> 00:25:17.519
And what's interesting, if I jump down uh a couple of uh verses just below this here, okay, um, there is a scripture, very interesting, good timing, about Matthew 5, 17.
00:25:18.480 --> 00:25:22.319
Jesus said this, don't misunderstand why I have come.
00:25:22.640 --> 00:25:28.880
I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets.
00:25:29.119 --> 00:25:35.200
No, I came to what he came to accomplish their purpose.
00:25:36.960 --> 00:25:38.720
That's interesting.
00:25:39.519 --> 00:25:43.119
Jesus never came to get rid of the law.
00:25:43.599 --> 00:25:46.640
Okay, he came to fulfill it.
00:25:47.039 --> 00:25:48.480
There's a difference.
00:25:49.039 --> 00:25:57.599
Um, just like you know, in today we see a lot of times um, you know, people want to erase history.
00:25:57.839 --> 00:26:01.200
Oh, we don't want to talk about this person and what they've done.
00:26:01.359 --> 00:26:03.119
Let's pull down their statue.
00:26:03.440 --> 00:26:06.559
No, that's not how you deal with these things.
00:26:06.799 --> 00:26:08.960
You're supposed to learn from them.
00:26:09.200 --> 00:26:12.799
If you have a picture of someone, so for instance, I remember it was John A.
00:26:12.960 --> 00:26:26.559
McDonald, uh, you know, the founding father of Canada, um, you know, Parliament, one of the things that, you know, he went ahead and he did was that um, you know, he his his um policies towards Aboriginal people was super crappy.
00:26:26.720 --> 00:26:28.000
So what did they want to do?
00:26:28.160 --> 00:26:35.039
And I say they, I refer to a particular group of people that wanted to just erase the history of him, take down his statue.
00:26:35.200 --> 00:26:35.839
He shouldn't be up.
00:26:35.920 --> 00:26:37.839
Look at what he did to the Aboriginal people.
00:26:38.000 --> 00:26:41.200
Yes, there's no doubt he did bad things.
00:26:41.519 --> 00:26:44.880
However, he also did good things too.
00:26:45.200 --> 00:26:49.759
Do we pull down his statue to erase the memory of him because of that?
00:26:50.000 --> 00:26:51.200
I would argue no.
00:26:51.440 --> 00:26:52.319
What the point of that?
00:26:52.480 --> 00:26:53.519
What's the point of that?
00:26:53.759 --> 00:26:56.079
You'll never learn then from his mistakes.
00:26:56.319 --> 00:26:57.440
And that's the best.
00:26:57.519 --> 00:26:58.559
That's the best way to learn.
00:26:58.640 --> 00:27:08.000
You learn from mistakes, and by hauling down statues or erasing people from history does not make you learn any better.
00:27:08.240 --> 00:27:10.640
In fact, I would argue it makes it worse.
00:27:10.880 --> 00:27:23.759
So, one last thing before we end off today's episode is this little interesting part I had just read about, you know, Jesus talking about, you know, you are the salt of the earth.
00:27:24.000 --> 00:27:27.920
Well, uh, something that's interesting about that is that that's actually found.
00:27:28.079 --> 00:27:29.759
Where to drum roll.
00:27:30.160 --> 00:27:36.160
Actually, no drum rolls needed because we're already in Leviticus 2, uh, verse 13.
00:27:36.319 --> 00:27:37.279
What does it say?
00:27:37.599 --> 00:27:46.079
Season all your grain offerings with salt to remind you of God's eternal covenant.
00:27:46.400 --> 00:27:50.799
Never forget to add salt to your grain offerings.
00:27:51.200 --> 00:27:52.240
So cool.
00:27:52.480 --> 00:27:57.920
Jesus is talking about salt in the in the new, is right back there in the commandments in the old.
00:27:58.160 --> 00:28:05.839
Um, the salt is important and you need it, it it helps preserve, and that's what he wanted.
00:28:05.920 --> 00:28:09.759
And it was a reminder of God's eternal covenant.
00:28:10.079 --> 00:28:17.200
So, something important to remember today that Leviticus, and this is again only scraping the surface.
00:28:17.359 --> 00:28:21.039
Yes, there's definitely parts of Leviticus that's boring, there's no doubt.
00:28:21.200 --> 00:28:29.359
However, there's so many parts in that book that are really, really eye-opening.
00:28:30.079 --> 00:28:42.799
And if you look with a lens, okay, acknowledging that in the New Testament, it also goes back to the old, that they're both important, that they both need each other.
00:28:43.119 --> 00:28:54.960
That's when you won't just look at Leviticus as, oh, I gotta get through this book because I'm reading it in a Bible plan, but rather it's something where you will um hopefully will change your perspective.
00:28:55.200 --> 00:28:57.440
Where am I looking for Christ right now?
00:28:57.920 --> 00:29:00.640
Am I looking how to improve myself right now?
00:29:00.960 --> 00:29:10.160
Yeah, I'm not gonna go outside and take a goat and just cut his throat on my front lawn and offer burnt sacrifices to the Lord.
00:29:10.400 --> 00:29:21.680
Um, however, I I now know that Christ has covered my sin and that I am accepted in the kingdom.
00:29:21.920 --> 00:29:24.799
Um, and that is an encouraging thought.
00:29:24.960 --> 00:29:39.920
So I hope you enjoyed today's episode where we dived deep into the book of Leviticus, scraping the surface on some uh topics, but also looking a little bit closer at some other ones.
00:29:40.160 --> 00:29:44.880
