ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In this special episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Tim Tamashiro for a heartfelt and inspiring conversation about Ikigai, positive psychology, purpose, and what truly makes life fulfilling.
Tim’s story is remarkable. As a bestselling author, keynote speaker, jazz singer, and former national CBC radio host, he spent years entertaining and connecting with audiences across Canada before stepping away from broadcasting to explore a deeper question: What gives life meaning?
That journey led him to the Japanese philosophy of Ikigai and to helping others reconnect with joy, clarity, contribution, and purpose.
What touched me most during our conversation was Tim’s reminder that fulfillment is not simply about achievement, status, or accumulation. True fulfillment comes from understanding our gifts, sharing them with others, and living a life rooted in meaning and connection.
Together, we explored the different stages of life and how Ikigai evolves through each season. Tim shared beautiful insights about Rising Ikigai, Warrior Ikigai, and Golden Ikigai, and how our definition of success often changes as we grow older and wiser.
In this episode, we talk about:
• The Japanese concept of Ikigai and how it helps guide a meaningful life
• How positive psychology supports happiness and well-being
• The four stages of life and how purpose evolves over time
• The difference between intrinsic and extrinsic rewards
• Why achievement alone does not always lead to fulfillment
• How serving others creates deeper meaning and joy
• The importance of experimentation and self discovery in finding purpose
• How storytelling and human connection can transform lives
One of the themes that stayed with me throughout this conversation was Tim’s beautiful reminder that life is not only about what we accomplish, but how we use our gifts to contribute to others.
I believe this episode will encourage many of you to pause and reflect on your own journey. No matter what stage of life you are in, there is always an opportunity to rediscover purpose, delight, and meaning.
Sometimes Ikigai is not about becoming someone new.
Sometimes it is about remembering who you already are and sharing that gift with the world.
