ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Hey Rainmakers! Chelsey and Stephen here, and if you've ever found yourself—or your kiddos—melting down for no obvious reason, this episode is for you. We're joined by our good friend and author Sarah Boyd to talk about something we're all dealing with: overstimulation. Between the screens, the to-do lists, the noise (literal and mental), and everything else life throws our way, it's easy to feel like your nervous system is stuck in overdrive.
Sarah's new book, Turn Down the Noise, is all about how to recognize overstimulation—not just in our kids, but in ourselves—and how to regulate our stress and calm the chaos without feeling like we have to run away to the mountains (though that sounds kinda nice too 😅). In this episode, she breaks down what overstimulation really is, why it's not just about loud sounds and bright screens, and how our internal stress plays a huge role in how we react to the world around us.
We talk about how tech plays into all this—especially for kids—and why not all screen time is equal. Sarah shares tips for navigating screen use with grace, how to choose calming content, and what to do after screen time to bring everyone back to baseline. Plus, we share some of our own wins and fails in this area, and the simple shifts we've made in our home to create more peace.
Sarah also opens up about how parents—especially moms—can carve out tiny moments of restoration, even in busy seasons. Whether it's standing in front of the fridge, drinking a hot cup of tea, or hiding in the bathroom for five quiet minutes (we see you), these strategies are doable and so effective. You'll walk away from this episode not just feeling seen, but equipped with real tools to turn down the noise in your own life.
