ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Data centers are multiplying across Texas, and the bill doesn’t always land where politicians promise. We walk through Governor Greg Abbott’s order to halt data center permits during a state audit, why ERCOT and Texas water reporting matter, and how “pro-business” can turn into corporate welfare when taxpayers and ratepayers carry the hidden costs. If you care about the Texas power grid, water resources, and quality of life, this is the kind of policy fight that shows up on your monthly statement.
From there, we zoom out to a bigger question: is all technological progress automatically good? I break down why Flock-style surveillance tech is so tempting to government agencies, how abuse becomes a feature instead of a fluke, and why AI creates a cultural crisis when we let it replace thinking, writing, and basic skepticism. The answer isn’t panic. It’s discipline: challenge claims, demand evidence, and refuse to outsource your conscience to a machine or a talking head.
We also get practical and personal with a serious Houston private school case, then shift into 2A Tuesday with David Gibson from Gun Owners of America, who leads GOA Second Amendment Hunters. He explains why millions of hunters avoid politics, what that silence could cost, and how hunting culture connects to firearms rights, conservation, and public land access. We wrap with Houston City Council power battles, law enforcement accountability and nuance, and the Texas GOP push for closed primaries.

00:00:08.640 --> 00:00:09.839
The voice of reason.
00:00:10.240 --> 00:00:14.240
Dutch eyes dark and serve Michael Wilson.
00:00:31.679 --> 00:00:33.039
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
00:00:33.119 --> 00:00:38.320
I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative here on Patriot Talk 920.
00:00:38.880 --> 00:00:41.039
Good to be with you this fine Tuesday morning.
00:00:41.119 --> 00:00:54.240
And by the way, joining us at 7 o'clock will be none other than David Gibson coming on from Gun Owners of America, specifically the Hunters Division, talking about something that we have not talked about in regards to the Second Amendment before.
00:00:54.399 --> 00:00:58.000
You know, the left will often go, it's for the people to go hunting.
00:00:58.240 --> 00:01:00.640
Well, what's interesting is that, yeah, of course it is.
00:01:00.880 --> 00:01:06.799
Of course, the right to keep and bear arms would also include those who want to use it to provide food for their family.
00:01:06.959 --> 00:01:08.480
Of course that would be included.
00:01:08.719 --> 00:01:17.760
And the interesting thing is that what a lot of those people that are going out hunting having a good time, what they don't understand is that their rights are also in jeopardy.
00:01:18.000 --> 00:01:20.400
And that what affects all of us also affects them.
00:01:20.640 --> 00:01:23.280
And many of those guys, you know, they just want to be out there hunting and having a good time.
00:01:23.359 --> 00:01:24.480
They don't want to be involved in politics.
00:01:24.560 --> 00:01:28.079
They don't want to go, you know, have to do research into candidates, all those sorts of things.
00:01:28.159 --> 00:01:40.719
So we're going to talk all about the importance of appealing to hunters, what that looks like, what GOA's doing on that front, why that's so crucial, and so much more coming up at the top of the second hour.
00:01:40.879 --> 00:01:44.400
Of course, that is the 2A Tuesday segment brought to you by Collectors Firearms.
00:01:44.480 --> 00:01:45.439
You will not want to miss it.
00:01:45.599 --> 00:01:49.200
Now, in the meantime, we do have a lot of stories to get into.
00:01:49.680 --> 00:01:57.439
And a lot of the stuff going on right now that I think people have a big problem with is I I mean, there's a couple things.
00:01:57.599 --> 00:02:00.959
Flock, we know, has been has been, you know, all over the place.
00:02:01.040 --> 00:02:04.000
We've got multiple investigations here in just the Houston area.
00:02:04.159 --> 00:02:10.719
I mean, you don't even get out throughout the rest of the state and start talking about all the investigations that have gone on everywhere else.
00:02:10.960 --> 00:02:20.319
You just look at Pasadena, Houston, uh, Deer Park, and you start to notice there's a pattern of potential abuse of the system.
00:02:21.120 --> 00:02:23.039
And of course, you kind of expect that, right?
00:02:23.120 --> 00:02:34.639
With and and and really the argument that a lot of these departments are making is, well, with any good tech, with anything, you'll find that there could be some abuse of it, but that doesn't make the thing bad, right?
00:02:34.960 --> 00:02:37.759
The the problem is, is the thing good or is the thing bad?
00:02:38.719 --> 00:02:47.039
And when it comes to flock, I think a lot of people are I I would say slowly, but it's not happening slowly, I think very quickly recognizing that no, flock is actually very dangerous.
00:02:47.199 --> 00:02:53.919
Flock is actually in just in principle, an incredibly dangerous technological leap.
00:02:54.639 --> 00:03:00.000
Especially when you have it contracted by a for-profit company and it's the government teaming up.
00:03:00.159 --> 00:03:12.960
And we already have, by the way, massive concerns, many of us, uh, about corporatism, about oligarchy, about the fact that a lot of these massive companies have far too much political say in our country.
00:03:13.280 --> 00:03:17.439
They've they've gained far too much power with their money.
00:03:17.919 --> 00:03:24.400
And so we already have those sorts of concerns, and now you've got a whole host of other technological concerns.
00:03:24.960 --> 00:03:26.479
You've you've got a lot of them.
00:03:26.719 --> 00:03:29.199
A lot of people are worried about AI, and I think for good reason.
00:03:29.360 --> 00:03:32.240
And I don't think it's going to take everybody's job away and whatever.
00:03:32.400 --> 00:03:38.080
Every technological leap has come with some level of, yeah, you have to pivot, you have to find a new job, right?
00:03:38.240 --> 00:03:48.960
There are things that I think that AI will be good at in the next couple of years that they may be good at in the next 20 years, and things that regardless of how good they get, they probably will never be great at.
00:03:49.520 --> 00:03:53.360
And you just have to be competitive enough to find those things out.
00:03:53.680 --> 00:03:59.039
And it depends on how old you are, what job you work, and what industry you're in, all those sorts of things are important.
00:03:59.280 --> 00:04:05.439
The bigger concern with AI to me, the much bigger concern is the culture decay that's come as a result of AI.
00:04:05.599 --> 00:04:10.000
In just a short few years, when AI was at its worst, it got bad.
00:04:10.240 --> 00:04:24.560
So imagine when AI is at its best and it continues to it continues to exponentially get better, the inability of young people to write papers, the inability of young people to do their own research without AI doing the research for them.
00:04:24.720 --> 00:04:38.079
And I understand it's a tool and it's useful and it's helpful, but the problem is that when you replace your ability to create and to think critically, and when you do that in any way, it's bad.
00:04:38.160 --> 00:04:41.040
I I warned about that before people were worried about AI.
00:04:41.120 --> 00:04:51.279
I worned about that when I talked just about listening to radio hosts or to podcasters or to social media influencers, that if you outsource your critical thinking to someone else, there's a problem.
00:04:51.839 --> 00:04:54.319
It's good you should listen to people, right?
00:04:54.399 --> 00:04:58.319
It's good to have people that you trust in positions that you can listen to.
00:04:58.639 --> 00:05:01.759
It's good to have people that are intelligent speaking on issues.
00:05:01.920 --> 00:05:07.360
It's good to have people who are politically informed that can educate and in and keep you informed.
00:05:07.519 --> 00:05:07.759
All right.
00:05:07.839 --> 00:05:13.279
A lot of people don't have time to put together all these stories, find out what's going on all across the state of Texas, what's going on here in Houston.
00:05:13.360 --> 00:05:16.160
So it's good that you have somebody you can listen to that tells you those things.
00:05:16.399 --> 00:05:23.279
But if you just take anybody, including myself, at face value and you don't analyze the claims, there's a problem.
00:05:23.519 --> 00:05:27.600
If you just take it as gospel truth, it's not inspired by God, right?
00:05:27.680 --> 00:05:30.079
It's it's not divinely inspired.
00:05:30.240 --> 00:05:33.519
If you just take it as automatically true, there's an issue.
00:05:33.759 --> 00:05:36.319
And that's why I leave the text line open throughout the show.
00:05:36.480 --> 00:05:38.959
If you have a disagreement, I want to hear it.
00:05:39.199 --> 00:05:40.560
I want to address it.
00:05:40.639 --> 00:05:45.360
And I want you to challenge me, me to challenge you back so that we can grow together, we can think.
00:05:45.519 --> 00:05:54.079
We can, we can, you know, determine what the truth is through logic and through evidence and through claims and through good-hearted debate, right?
00:05:54.240 --> 00:05:55.439
Good-hearted disagreements.
00:05:55.600 --> 00:06:01.759
We've had disagreements on the show, and I don't I can't think of a single disagreement that we've had that wound up with people being angry at each other that doesn't have to go that way.
00:06:01.839 --> 00:06:02.800
We can just disagree.
00:06:02.959 --> 00:06:14.079
And maybe we'll agree by the end, maybe we won't, but that's a good thing because it forces us to think about why we believe what we believe, forces us to defend why we believe what I believe, which challenges us, and it's a good thing to be challenged.
00:06:14.240 --> 00:06:21.920
It's a bad thing if you say things and you go unchallenged forever and you just get to believe whatever you want, you can wind up in a lot of trouble.
00:06:22.240 --> 00:06:27.519
And AI has exacerbated that issue to the nth degree.
00:06:28.079 --> 00:06:36.560
The issues that I warned about with listening to radio hosts and whatever else, that's bad enough when you're doing it with a person.
00:06:36.720 --> 00:06:47.680
When you're doing it with a machine that has no ethical obligations, that has no determination of right and wrong, that has no concept of why lying would be wrong in the first place and will lie to you.
00:06:47.920 --> 00:06:54.000
And it doesn't even know what lying is, it considers it just saying what it needs to say to get the user experience good.
00:06:54.240 --> 00:07:08.480
When you have that, and you have a lot of people, especially young people, that are not fully developed in their ability to think and their ability to reason and their ability to write, and those things are supposed to be developed, it turns into a massive crisis.
00:07:08.800 --> 00:07:19.759
On top of all the other crazy things that are happening because of AI, uh, with you know fake photos, fake claims, you know, there's there's the constant concern of government intervention, right?
00:07:19.839 --> 00:07:24.240
You know, it used to be somebody gets caught doing any number of things.
00:07:24.560 --> 00:07:28.800
And uh it used to be that you know, you get caught and you have due process, and we trust all of that.
00:07:28.959 --> 00:07:35.120
Well, with AI, there's so many claims out there with pictures attached that seem legitimate, and you find out, is that really true?
00:07:35.279 --> 00:07:37.519
Do do can we even trust that?
00:07:38.879 --> 00:07:40.639
Did they do the thing they're being accused of doing?
00:07:40.879 --> 00:07:44.959
There's so many issues like that when it comes to just AI.
00:07:45.120 --> 00:07:57.040
And that's just one concern before you get into all of the other concerns contained within just AI, and then you look out at the technological spectrum, you start thinking, maybe this isn't for the best.
00:07:57.199 --> 00:07:59.839
Maybe there are a lot of concerns that we need to address.
00:08:00.399 --> 00:08:14.959
You start talking about data centers, you start talking about flock, you start talking about any the amount of social media usage, the effects of social media on people, and you walk away thinking, is the world getting better because we're progressing?
00:08:15.199 --> 00:08:17.040
Is all progress inherently good?
00:08:17.199 --> 00:08:19.600
And we know the answer to that as Christians, of course not.
00:08:19.759 --> 00:08:20.160
Uh-uh.
00:08:20.480 --> 00:08:30.959
Moving in a dire moving uh I've I've used the you know analogy before, but if you drive a car, driving forward does not necessarily mean that you're going the right direction.
00:08:31.199 --> 00:08:39.360
You may be progressing to a new location, but if straight in front of you in 100 miles, there's the edge of a cliff, you don't want to drive 101 miles.
00:08:39.600 --> 00:08:44.320
You don't want to you don't want to drive over the edge of the cliff in the name of driving forward.
00:08:44.559 --> 00:08:46.080
You need to know when to make a turn.
00:08:46.240 --> 00:08:47.759
You need to know when to make a U-turn.
00:08:47.840 --> 00:08:49.919
You need to know when to say, hey, I'm going the wrong way.
00:08:50.080 --> 00:08:53.039
I wanted to go to New Mexico, but I'm actually hanging out towards Florida.
00:08:53.200 --> 00:08:57.919
I'm clearly on the I'm clearly on the wrong, on the wrong side of I-10, right?
00:08:58.159 --> 00:09:01.360
You have to make those determinations with any progress.
00:09:01.919 --> 00:09:18.559
And data centers is a big one of those because there's a lot of people, myself included, who are concerned about the effects of data centers, not only on their grid, but on people's quality of life, on the priority prioritization of corporate welfare, on the burden on ratepayers and taxpayers.
00:09:18.799 --> 00:09:24.480
A lot of times it's the same people just being charged twice, but there's a lot of concerns there.
00:09:24.720 --> 00:09:30.960
And so Governor Abbott has now ordered a halt on data center permits during a state audit that's going on.
00:09:31.200 --> 00:09:41.840
He says that data centers must complete these state audits and protect Texas's power and water resources before the permits can move forward, which again, this should have been happening months and months ago.
00:09:41.919 --> 00:09:42.960
This is happening now.
00:09:43.039 --> 00:09:48.080
And I'm not gonna come out and try to, you know, counter-signal and say this is bad because it should have already happened.
00:09:48.320 --> 00:09:48.799
Sure.
00:09:59.360 --> 00:10:08.879
Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to halt permitting for data centers until an ongoing state audit of the industry is complete.
00:10:09.360 --> 00:10:19.279
In a letter that he sent yesterday to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Executive Director, Kelly Keel, he directed the agency to, quote, halt all permits sought by data centers.
00:10:19.440 --> 00:10:34.720
He went further saying that no state agency should move forward with regulatory approvals related to data centers until the information being sought by the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, ERCOT, and the Texas Water Development Board is obtained.
00:10:35.120 --> 00:10:43.600
Specifically, they must pause the issuance of permits related to data center projects until that review is completely done, until they've found out all the info that they need.
00:10:43.840 --> 00:10:45.679
We don't need to permit anybody else.
00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:49.600
And Abbott said this quote, simply put, Texans must come first.
00:10:49.759 --> 00:10:56.000
Data centers must pay their own way, protect our grid and water, and complete the ERCOT and TWDB audits.
00:10:56.159 --> 00:11:11.200
Until they do, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will issue no permits sought by data center projects, which of course is the latest in a whole list of escalation tactics in his scrutiny of the rapidly expanding data center industry, which already has over 300 facilities here just in the state of Texas.
00:11:11.360 --> 00:11:24.399
And I remind everybody, just a little note that's worth knowing, that I don't think that any of this would have happened had people, individual people, just citizens, not politicians, raised these alarms.
00:11:24.559 --> 00:11:26.559
I I don't think we ever would have ended up here.
00:11:27.039 --> 00:11:39.840
Which again goes back to the importance of being informed, being able to critically think, and more than just that, being willing to take action is a really important step in being in a constitutional republic, is that you take action.
00:11:40.960 --> 00:11:43.679
It is uh the and you can't just do one of those and not the others.
00:11:43.919 --> 00:11:47.279
If you take action but you have no information, you're a fool.
00:11:47.759 --> 00:11:50.960
If you have all the information but you take no action, you're a coward, right?
00:11:51.039 --> 00:11:53.519
You have to combine them, they have to work together.
00:11:53.679 --> 00:11:56.159
You have to be informed and you have to take action.
00:11:56.320 --> 00:11:58.720
They're they're they're not mutually exclusive.
00:11:58.879 --> 00:12:00.000
In fact, it's the opposite.
00:12:00.159 --> 00:12:01.840
They have to work together.
00:12:02.240 --> 00:12:12.320
And so back last month, we know that Abbott ordered the Public Utility Commission as well as ERCOT to audit data centers seeking to connect to the electric grid here in Texas.
00:12:12.480 --> 00:12:21.919
At the time, ERCOT was considering approximately 474 gigawatts of new connection requests, with roughly 90% of those new connection requests belonging specifically to data centers.
00:12:22.080 --> 00:12:32.720
And last week he directed the TWDB to enforce water use reporting requirements against data centers, including through potential criminal referrals and permit disqualifications, permanent ones.
00:12:33.039 --> 00:12:41.440
Sourcers indicated, and this was at this was some of the craziest news we got, that roughly 80% of data centers literally weren't reporting.
00:12:41.679 --> 00:12:46.399
This was a requirement in order to maintain your permits and do the work that you want to do.
00:12:46.559 --> 00:12:49.759
And something like 80% of them weren't doing it.
00:12:49.919 --> 00:12:57.120
And so he announced that he plans to work with lawmakers during the next legislative session to eliminate financial incentives for data centers.
00:12:57.279 --> 00:12:58.559
There shouldn't be any in the first place.
00:12:58.639 --> 00:13:04.080
Again, there should be no financial incentives other than potentially being a more pro-business state.
00:13:04.399 --> 00:13:06.799
But pro-business should not mean anti-taxing.
00:13:07.039 --> 00:13:21.360
And that's something that I think our government has gotten wrong, is that in the pursuit of building good businesses and producing a good economy here in the state, I think we've deprioritized the whole point of the economy in the first place, which was the protection of the people.
00:13:21.600 --> 00:13:28.879
The whole reason that the economy flourishing is a good thing is because it's a good sign that the people in your state are flourishing.
00:13:29.039 --> 00:13:42.240
And if your economy is flourishing, so-called, but the people aren't, they're not happy, they're not having a better quality of life, then your your economics, you know, whole standpoint is is useless.
00:13:42.480 --> 00:13:49.120
The only reason we even use that at all is because, at least historically, it's been pretty good evidence of a flourishing people.
00:13:50.159 --> 00:14:03.360
If you separate the people from the economy and you just view the economy as its own abstract concept, and you you don't care about how it affects the people in your state or in your country, by the way, at the federal level, then it's not good.
00:14:03.600 --> 00:14:06.960
It defeats the whole purpose of even tracking the economy.
00:14:07.519 --> 00:14:10.879
If it's just line goes up, that's that means good things happening.
00:14:11.039 --> 00:14:16.559
And you don't pause to say, well, can the line go up and people not be benefited?
00:14:16.799 --> 00:14:22.480
If you don't ask that question and you don't you don't answer that question, then it's pointless to even look at the economy.
00:14:22.559 --> 00:14:23.200
Who cares?
00:14:23.519 --> 00:14:45.600
If the economy shows massive upticks while poverty grows and unemployment grows, and people's ability to afford a home on uh in a one income family with an ability for a mother to stay home and to look after her children and to keep the home, if that can't happen, but you say the economy's doing great, then it's a useless metric.
00:14:46.399 --> 00:14:54.799
And so we never should have had this in the first place, these these tax incentives for businesses, other than to say that Texas is a pro-business state in the sense that, hey, taxes are lower here.
00:14:54.960 --> 00:14:56.559
Hey, we're more open to business.
00:14:56.720 --> 00:14:57.519
Those things are fine.
00:14:57.600 --> 00:14:58.320
Those things are good.
00:14:58.480 --> 00:15:00.320
We don't want to tax you out into oblivion.
00:15:01.039 --> 00:15:02.240
There's a lot of states that do.
00:15:02.399 --> 00:15:03.440
We're not one of them.
00:15:03.679 --> 00:15:07.840
But we also don't want to shift the burden in order to do that.
00:15:08.000 --> 00:15:12.320
We're gonna do that by our spending, by our ability to be pro-business.
00:15:12.559 --> 00:15:16.639
We don't want to do that by requiring the taxpayers to take on the burden for the businesses.
00:15:16.799 --> 00:15:20.559
That's not pro-business, that's anti-Texan, is what that is.
00:15:20.720 --> 00:15:21.840
That's corporate welfare.
00:15:22.080 --> 00:15:34.639
It is a form of socialism that's arguably worse because at least in socialism, the concept is that the people that are being protected are actually the people in this oligarchial form of socialism.
00:15:34.799 --> 00:15:36.159
It's not even about the people.
00:15:36.799 --> 00:15:40.240
You're doing welfare, but it's for the the people that are already wealthy.
00:15:40.399 --> 00:15:45.440
It's for the people that are already making a lot of money and subjecting those who aren't to the welfare.
00:15:45.759 --> 00:15:47.279
It's it's completely backwards.
00:15:47.360 --> 00:15:48.960
It's like socialism on steroids.
00:15:49.120 --> 00:15:50.240
It's really bad.
00:15:50.480 --> 00:15:51.759
But we've been doing that.
00:15:51.919 --> 00:16:02.720
Um we know that that there have been concerns about them not covering their own electricity costs and their infrastructure costs that has resulted in potentially higher residential electric bills.
00:16:02.799 --> 00:16:08.080
Um so part of that process to find out what that looks like is to complete an audit.
00:16:08.159 --> 00:16:10.960
We have to have some sort of study analyzing that.
00:16:11.200 --> 00:16:16.320
And again, this this whole audit process should have been done before we had any data centers here.
00:16:16.399 --> 00:16:19.200
That this should have been done as priority number one.
00:16:19.440 --> 00:16:27.759
And yet here we are, years into it, where you now have requests for hundreds of gigawatts more power.
00:16:27.919 --> 00:16:32.480
You have 80% of facilities not reporting the things that are required to report.
00:16:33.039 --> 00:16:35.440
Well, now at least it's finally recognized as an issue.
00:16:35.679 --> 00:16:44.960
And again, I remind everyone this was only really recognized as an issue in the first place because people stood up and said, Hey, Governor Abbott, there's a problem.
00:16:45.519 --> 00:16:48.159
And they made they made their influence matter.
00:16:48.639 --> 00:16:50.879
I've said it over and over and over again.
00:16:51.200 --> 00:17:01.679
I know that because of how politics has been presented, and because a lot of the focus, and this is part of my issue with all of the radios that only focus on national news, it's not bad.
00:17:01.840 --> 00:17:03.200
We need to know national news.
00:17:03.360 --> 00:17:05.359
We have to also hold our federal government accountable.
00:17:05.440 --> 00:17:06.400
I understand all of that.
00:17:06.559 --> 00:17:19.839
But if you don't have someone that is explicitly reporting on what's going on in your city, in your county, in your community, in your geographical region, and then in your state, your barrier of influence degrades the higher it goes.
00:17:20.000 --> 00:17:30.160
And so by the time you get to the federal government or maybe the executive branch, and that's what 95% of the reporting is on, well, it leaves a lot of people saying, Well, what can I even do?
00:17:30.559 --> 00:17:32.079
There's there's very little I can do.
00:17:32.240 --> 00:17:36.880
And I want to remind everybody by doing these local things, saying, No, no, no, there's actually a lot that you can do.
00:17:37.119 --> 00:17:49.839
Because we've made waves, we've made influence, we've changed the culture, and we're going to continue doing that, but it requires that people be informed on where they can do that, on what that actually looks like.
00:17:49.920 --> 00:17:54.000
And by the way, it's really good for morale when you see that it works.
00:17:54.799 --> 00:18:01.200
And when you get into local conversations and you get into statewide conversations, you can see the effects of it working.
00:18:01.359 --> 00:18:02.720
You can directly see it.
00:18:02.880 --> 00:18:18.079
And so when you have a lot of these homeowners that are raising concerns about this, by the way, a lot of the stuff that happened with the transmission line project, you guys know all about the transmission line project that was basically forced through by a company pressuring the Public Utility Commission.
00:18:18.240 --> 00:18:21.119
When that happens, what's the only thing standing in the way?
00:18:21.279 --> 00:18:25.680
Well, now you have legislators that are saying, hey, we need to put a pause on this.
00:18:25.839 --> 00:18:28.079
You have administrative law judges that are saying that.
00:18:28.160 --> 00:18:29.200
But where did it start?
00:18:29.359 --> 00:18:37.200
Well, I can tell you, we all know it started with people that were very upset, reasonably so, who were willing to come out and say so.
00:18:37.359 --> 00:18:39.519
So willing to say, hey, I'm really upset by this.
00:18:39.680 --> 00:18:40.799
This is frustrating.
00:18:40.960 --> 00:18:42.079
This is no good.
00:18:43.599 --> 00:18:44.960
This isn't going to work for me.
00:18:45.119 --> 00:18:50.480
And you had enough people willing to do that, that now there's a broader conversation.
00:18:50.720 --> 00:19:06.880
Now it's actually a political conversation taking place that they say, hey, one of the priorities of our next legislative session is discussing this thing that probably never would have even been mentioned had you not had independent reporting and journalists and people willing to put in the work to get us to that point.
00:19:07.119 --> 00:19:10.000
Just average people willing to do something about it.
00:19:10.400 --> 00:19:14.240
And that that right there is enough for me to say that what I do is important.
00:19:15.039 --> 00:19:23.039
That the reporting on what's happening here in our cities and our counties and in our state is crucial to success for us politically.
00:19:23.519 --> 00:19:25.279
Because, yeah, national news is needed.
00:19:25.519 --> 00:19:27.680
And you should know what's going on with your federal government.
00:19:27.759 --> 00:19:28.319
That's important.
00:19:28.480 --> 00:19:59.200
But if that's all you know, and you don't know how bad your state government is operating, or which politicians are good at the at the local level, you wind up with rogue prosecutors, a lack of public safety, a much larger burden, look at Harris County, on the property taxpayers, and you wind up with big transmission line projects run by bureaucracies and data centers that aren't reporting the requirements that are basically on corporate welfare, where audits aren't being completed, and that radio host over there is telling you, yeah, but the the the new thing with Trump is this whole Fox News debut.
00:19:59.440 --> 00:20:00.799
And it's like, that's great.
00:20:00.960 --> 00:20:02.079
I'm glad we can hear that.
00:20:02.160 --> 00:20:03.759
I'm glad we can get that information.
00:20:03.920 --> 00:20:07.680
But what about everything else that affects me on a day-to-day basis?
00:20:08.000 --> 00:20:10.559
Now, with that being said, and we can get back from the break.
00:20:10.799 --> 00:20:21.279
Speaking of things that affect people, three former Houston private school students, uh, these athletes, have now been charged in an alleged locker room uh sexual assault case.
00:20:21.519 --> 00:20:23.119
And this is just a wild turn of events.
00:20:23.279 --> 00:20:24.720
It was at the Briarwood School.
00:20:24.799 --> 00:20:28.160
They say that all three students got removed from campus when allegations came to light.
00:20:28.319 --> 00:20:31.920
We'll go over those allegations and what happened when we get back from the break.
00:20:32.079 --> 00:20:35.519
If you would like to text into the show and let us know your thoughts.
00:20:35.599 --> 00:20:37.519
And again, that can always be a disagreement.
00:20:37.680 --> 00:20:39.279
It can be an agreement of something.
00:20:39.440 --> 00:20:45.279
It can be an addition, something we reported on, or it could even be something as simple as, hey, I heard this other thing that I want you to talk about specifically.
00:20:45.359 --> 00:20:46.240
I want your take on it.
00:20:46.400 --> 00:20:47.279
I want to know more.
00:20:47.440 --> 00:20:49.039
Can you run us through what's going on?
00:20:49.200 --> 00:20:54.799
You can always text in at 713-779-5978.
00:20:54.960 --> 00:20:55.440
One more time.

That is 713-779-KYST.

00:25:23.920 --> 00:25:25.440
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
00:25:25.519 --> 00:25:44.880
I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative Court Records detail allegations that at least two students at the Briarwood School, a Houston private school that serves children with learning differences, were sexually assaulted and harassed in locker rooms and other school-related settings during the 2025 to 2026 school year.
00:25:45.039 --> 00:25:52.400
Sexual assault of a child charges were filed against 18-year-olds Landon Bennett and Jace Burrell, as well as 19-year-old Liam Mishner.
00:25:52.559 --> 00:25:56.240
Prosecutors described their behavior in one court filing as terrorizing.
00:25:56.480 --> 00:25:58.720
Bennett is currently in jail with a$75,000 bond.
00:25:58.880 --> 00:26:04.079
Mishner is free on a$50,000 bond, and Burrell has not been taken into custody yet, according to records.
00:26:04.240 --> 00:26:13.680
According to the complaint, the case came to light back in April when a student approached the school's dean of student and athletic director about repeated incidents involving members of the football and basketball teams.
00:26:13.839 --> 00:26:21.599
The dean connected school counselor and several students subsequently described alleged sexual misconduct and harassment by three upperclassmen.
00:26:21.920 --> 00:26:29.440
The students reported incidents that included being pinned against walls, being touched without consent, being threatened and targeted in locker rooms before practices and games.
00:26:29.599 --> 00:26:34.880
Some students also reported avoiding the locker room or shower areas because they knew of the alleged conduct and they didn't want anything to do with it.
00:26:35.039 --> 00:26:40.960
One student identified court records as a fifteen-year-old told investigators that the alleged abuse happened repeatedly during the school year.
00:26:41.119 --> 00:26:45.680
The complaint says the student described being held down by their students and sexually assaulted while in the locker room.
00:26:45.839 --> 00:26:49.680
The student also reported repeated threats and sexually explicit harassment.
00:26:50.000 --> 00:26:55.279
Another student told investigators that he was held against a locker room wall and assaulted while changing for practice.
00:26:55.440 --> 00:27:04.160
Other witnesses described alleged incidents involving nudity, unwanted sexual contact, and students being pushed onto or against other students in the locker room and shower areas.
00:27:04.400 --> 00:27:08.880
Some witnesses even told investigators they were scared to shower or change at school because of the abuse.
00:27:09.119 --> 00:27:18.480
Lisa Landy, interim head of the school, would not share whether any policies or procedures have changed, but she did say this quote, we have notified our community about the recent arrests of two former students.
00:27:18.720 --> 00:27:22.240
These charges are in connection with allegations that they were reported to the school last spring.
00:27:22.400 --> 00:27:26.240
We have cooperated fully with law enforcement throughout their investigation and continue to do so.
00:27:26.400 --> 00:27:31.119
The accused students were removed from campus last spring and were not permitted to return to campus.
00:27:31.279 --> 00:27:37.039
Given that this is an ongoing case, we cannot provide additional information at this time because we don't want to interfere with the current work of law enforcement.
00:27:37.200 --> 00:27:40.720
Russ assured that safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority.
00:27:40.799 --> 00:27:47.200
We do not tolerate behavior by any student that compromises the safety and well-being of another student, and we take these issues very seriously.
00:27:47.920 --> 00:27:54.400
During his probable cause hearing, a public defender said that Bennett is supposed to leave for the Army in the coming weeks, so we'll see how that kind of plays into all of this.
00:27:54.640 --> 00:27:59.759
Carrie McCracken, executive director at the Children's Assessment Center, said the abuser takes advantage of the difference in power.
00:28:00.000 --> 00:28:04.079
These upperclassmen use that to torment these other children into not commenting.
00:28:04.319 --> 00:28:12.319
And so this particular woman, again, who deals with these sorts of issues, said that these were important advice for parents.
00:28:12.480 --> 00:28:21.200
Maintain open dialogue with your children, use the time in the car strategically, ask specific questions, follow up, watch for behavioral changes, and hold adults accountable.
00:28:21.440 --> 00:28:26.720
She said that this type of alleged abuse can create lifelong trauma without proper intervention.
00:28:27.119 --> 00:28:39.119
She said, make sure you've got good dialogue with your children so that they know if there's something that's making them so that you know if there's something that's making them comfortable, if they're in fear, if they're being bullied or abused, that they can can and will come and talk to you.
00:28:39.519 --> 00:28:44.880
But again, let's just highlight this, because this this is interesting because this isn't happening in a public school, it's happening in a private school.
00:28:45.039 --> 00:28:50.160
Again, it it paints the importance of being deeply involved in your child's life.
00:28:50.480 --> 00:29:07.599
And this is something that the government has butted their heads into so many times that the culture has shifted so dramatically that it's become mainstream, really, for you to just take your kid to school or let them ride the bus, drop them off, and then pick them back up that evening.
00:29:07.759 --> 00:29:10.079
And you get to have maybe a short breakfast.
00:29:10.160 --> 00:29:15.759
I a lot of families aren't even doing that, something with them in the morning, maybe, and then maybe a family dinner.
00:29:15.839 --> 00:29:32.240
But it again, at this point, you'd be shocked by how many parents are not having breakfast with their children, will have their children get on the bus, they'll see them again that afternoon, where the kids go to their room to eat their food on their bed and do their homework and watch some TV or scroll some social media and then go to bed.
00:29:32.480 --> 00:29:37.599
And they have basically no relationship with their parents, and their parents have basically no relationship with their child.
00:29:37.920 --> 00:29:39.279
And that is common.
00:29:39.440 --> 00:29:43.119
That is mainstream, and it's incredibly wicked.
00:29:43.359 --> 00:29:45.599
I mean, it is just unbelievably perverted.
00:29:45.839 --> 00:30:01.200
It is completely backwards from the way that we're designed to operate as human beings, it is completely backwards from the things that solve issues in childhood, and it completely delegates your responsibility that God gave you by nature of being a parent to somebody else hoping they do a bang up job.
00:30:01.920 --> 00:30:05.200
And this isn't trying to go after people who send their kids to school, right?
00:30:05.279 --> 00:30:28.000
I understand a lot of the arguments for it, I get it, but it is to say that for those parents who are so uninvolved in their children's lives that they drop them off at school and that's the last they see of them, and they don't spend time dedicated to forming a relationship and to being an involved parent and to being present in their lives and to raising them in the fear and admonition of the Lord, when stuff like this happens, because you have to think, right?
00:30:28.079 --> 00:30:29.119
There's a couple of issues here.
00:30:29.279 --> 00:30:31.759
The first, of course, is the students themselves that did it.
00:30:32.079 --> 00:30:34.960
You have to wonder what is their relationship like with their parents.
00:30:35.359 --> 00:30:42.880
If these are the sorts of things they're doing, they're tormenting younger children in locker rooms, what is their relationship with their parents look like?
00:30:43.680 --> 00:30:45.039
How are they faring at home?
00:30:45.279 --> 00:30:45.519
Right?
00:30:45.599 --> 00:30:49.119
I'm not trying to say that, oh, well, really the only reason they did this.
00:30:49.200 --> 00:30:50.799
No, they're still responsible for their own actions.
00:30:50.880 --> 00:30:51.839
Don't mishear me.
00:30:52.079 --> 00:30:54.160
If you behave this way, you're responsible.
00:30:54.240 --> 00:30:57.039
You don't get to pin the blame somewhere else and say, well, my parent wasn't involved.
00:30:57.359 --> 00:30:59.279
You're you're now becoming an adult.
00:30:59.680 --> 00:31:01.599
You're 17, 18 years old.
00:31:01.759 --> 00:31:03.920
You are fully capable of making decisions.
00:31:04.079 --> 00:31:08.240
You don't get to pin the blame on someone else, even if they failed in their responsibility.
00:31:08.480 --> 00:31:08.720
Right?
00:31:08.799 --> 00:31:10.880
Then that gives us an understanding reason.
00:31:10.960 --> 00:31:11.119
Right.
00:31:11.279 --> 00:31:18.640
It does not grant empathy or us rewriting things or us justifying what these students did.
00:31:18.880 --> 00:31:26.160
But it is to say that a lot of these issues that are entirely preventable are coming because of a lack of parental involvement in the lives of their children.
00:31:26.640 --> 00:31:30.880
And then the children that are being abused, the first place they should go to, the first time it happens, is to their parents.
00:31:30.960 --> 00:31:32.960
This should have been brought up the very first time.
00:31:33.119 --> 00:31:42.480
Instead of finally students saying, okay, this happening to multiple of us, maybe we can band together after it's been repeatedly happening for an entire school year, and now we can go to the dean or to the school counselor.
00:31:42.799 --> 00:31:44.640
That's the wrong order of operations.
00:31:44.799 --> 00:31:53.839
It should be first time it happens, that single student, even if he knows nobody else, should be comfortable going to his father and saying, Dad, I'm being hurt at school.
00:31:54.000 --> 00:31:55.119
Something is happening.
00:31:55.440 --> 00:32:02.640
And that father, of course, should be present enough in his life to hear that and to immediately raise the stakes, to immediately go in and say, This needs to end right now.
00:32:02.880 --> 00:32:09.440
Probably by pulling your child out of school, uh, and then ultimately by by going after the school to fix the problem for all the other students.
00:32:10.160 --> 00:32:13.680
But again, a lot of this ties back into the responsibility of parents.
00:32:14.319 --> 00:32:24.000
And yeah, we can blame the school and say there should have been stricter measures, there should have been an adult at least relatively present or nearby, um, that there should be greater precautions taken.
00:32:24.160 --> 00:32:26.559
We can go into all of that, and those things are all true.
00:32:27.039 --> 00:32:33.039
But again, I try to approach most of the things I talk about from a way of what difference can we make in this?
00:32:33.279 --> 00:32:40.640
And one of the big ways you can make a difference, one of the biggest ways you'll ever make a difference that God has given you explicitly by nature of having children is to be a parent.
00:32:40.960 --> 00:32:48.400
That is one of the biggest influential decisions you'll ever make and continue to make throughout that child's life as you raise them.
00:32:48.799 --> 00:33:03.839
And when you outsource that to a school or to a counselor or to whatever it may be, rather than taking the responsibility yourself and raising your children, these sorts of things are bound to happen on both sides, both the abusers and the abused.
00:33:04.240 --> 00:33:11.200
And a lot of that, again, this isn't to blame or to shift the blame and say, well, if you do love your kids and this and everyone I'm I'm not trying to do that.
00:33:11.359 --> 00:33:18.880
What I am trying to say is that a lot of these cultural problems would be much better if parents were more involved in the lives of their children.
00:33:18.960 --> 00:33:22.240
And we're raising them again in the fear and the admonition of the Lord.
00:33:22.720 --> 00:33:24.000
But that's what's going on here in Houston.
00:33:24.079 --> 00:33:32.720
We'll we'll keep you guys updated uh as the charges progress, if they go to trial, um, and and all the updates on that story uh when it comes to the protection of children.
00:33:32.960 --> 00:33:40.720
With that being said, when we get back, Tallerico, another, I mean, you just think that it's it's over and there's no way anything else could have happened.
00:33:40.880 --> 00:33:51.200
Well, apparently his church minister has also admitted, on top of all the other stuff that this this I mean, it's just the number of things that got admitted is crazy.
00:33:51.359 --> 00:33:57.200
Another admission, and that's that apparently their church admitted admitted to harboring an illegal alien.
00:33:57.359 --> 00:33:58.880
We'll talk all about that when we get back.
00:33:59.039 --> 00:34:06.559

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
00:38:28.239 --> 00:38:33.760
I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative here on Patriot Talk 920.
00:38:34.480 --> 00:38:46.480
So, new undercover footage is showing a Democrat min uh a minister at at Talerico's Church saying that the congregation does not have a lot of people who are religious, they're not a belief-based church, which means they're not a church at all.
00:38:46.559 --> 00:38:48.159
We already know this, it's not an update.
00:38:48.320 --> 00:38:50.880
In the video, Reverend Carol Johnson described St.
00:38:51.039 --> 00:38:58.719
Andrews as a sanctuary church and says that an illegal alien from Guatemala who has worked here for eight years has been living inside the church.
00:38:59.039 --> 00:39:00.800
Johnson said, We don't have a lot of people who are religious here.
00:39:00.880 --> 00:39:01.760
We're a belief-based perch.
00:39:02.079 --> 00:39:04.400
We're not a belief-based church, we're a values-based church.
00:39:04.480 --> 00:39:06.239
We don't spend time on creeds.
00:39:06.400 --> 00:39:12.159
Instead, let's point to the history of activism on LGBT issues, racial justice, immigration.
00:39:13.119 --> 00:39:18.079
And so and by the way, this we know this is his home church, because not only as he said that St.
00:39:18.239 --> 00:39:23.599
Andrews is the church he still goes to really shapes his worldviews, but again, he's used it as a sort of push.
00:39:23.679 --> 00:39:25.440
Hey, I've been involved in church since I was a kid.
00:39:25.519 --> 00:39:31.440
I even preached to this church, I went to seminary, all these things, and then you find out all this stuff about his church and you go, well, this is not a church.
00:39:31.840 --> 00:39:33.119
This is not a church of Christianity.
00:39:33.199 --> 00:39:35.840
They're not a they're not a belief-based church.
00:39:36.000 --> 00:39:36.320
Guess what?
00:39:36.480 --> 00:39:37.679
Christianity is filled with beliefs.
00:39:37.760 --> 00:39:41.519
It's no wonder that Talerico says that he's supposedly a Christian who is Christianity.
00:39:41.599 --> 00:39:46.079
Of course he does, because the Word of God has a lot to say about what Taler Rico's church is doing, and none of it good.
00:39:47.199 --> 00:39:58.400
Regardless, um, it it's pretty interesting because yet again, we see the church coming out and admitting to things that again, I I I can't fathom why in the world you'd say this to somebody.
00:39:58.559 --> 00:40:02.079
I I just if you're gonna do it, and obviously you shouldn't.
00:40:02.239 --> 00:40:09.760
You should not be harboring illegal aliens, but you know, they're gonna compare this to the secret police and how they're just protecting those from from undue harm.
00:40:09.840 --> 00:40:10.960
They're gonna they're gonna do that.
00:40:11.119 --> 00:40:20.239
But if you're gonna do it, coming out and admitting to that in front of somebody you've never met before, because this is an undercover video, there's not for somebody in the church, there's somebody new, that's just there.
00:40:20.639 --> 00:40:28.079
Coming out and admitting that to somebody random is maybe the worst display of just incompetence of all time.
00:40:28.320 --> 00:40:33.360
On top of actually doing it and the evil of that, you throw in, you know what, this new guy showed up.
00:40:33.440 --> 00:40:36.079
Why don't I tell him how we're breaking federal law?
00:40:36.320 --> 00:40:37.280
That's a good idea.
00:40:37.519 --> 00:40:45.360
Why don't I explain to him all of the problems in our social gathering so that he can be aware of how evil we are?
00:40:45.519 --> 00:40:48.960
That's the best op that those are best for optics right now.
00:40:49.519 --> 00:40:56.000
But again, this is exactly the kind of place that Tallerico went, that he still admits that he goes.
00:40:56.320 --> 00:41:03.440
And so, again, we know the church admitted that most of them wouldn't even describe themselves as Christians, they would describe themselves as agnostic or atheistic.
00:41:03.679 --> 00:41:10.639
And at some point, we need to be we need to have clarity as Christians and as conservatives.
00:41:10.880 --> 00:41:18.639
And I know that the phrase, do not judge, has been ingrained in every young person, especially.
00:41:18.960 --> 00:41:21.760
And and old and every old person alike, everybody.
00:41:22.000 --> 00:41:27.280
The the culture is trying to convince you as a Christian that part of Jesus' commandments were that you weren't allowed to judge people.
00:41:27.360 --> 00:41:37.280
And they point to the verse that says, Do not judge, and then they turn and point at the woman who was caught in adultery, uh, who Christ said, Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
00:41:38.559 --> 00:41:48.880
And so you know, you hear all that, and they use that to bludgeon you into refusing to make claims of of values and claims about people.
00:41:49.119 --> 00:41:50.880
Because to do that would be to judge.
00:41:51.119 --> 00:42:03.920
And what they don't do, what's so interesting is they don't actually care about what the Bible says, because again, they've admitted they they retranslated all of the Bible the way that they s that that suits them, and then they try to use the Bible as their basis for going after you.
00:42:04.159 --> 00:42:07.760
And and you know the irony in all of this, right?
00:42:07.920 --> 00:42:14.960
Just as a logical side note, because if somebody tells you don't judge, and then you judge, and they say you can't do that, you say, Well, you're judging me for judging.
00:42:15.360 --> 00:42:24.880
And I know it's a bit of a flip-flop where you say, Well, that doesn't work, well, that's because the phrase do not judge doesn't work without the proper context of the rest of scripture, which tells us explicitly to judge.
00:42:24.960 --> 00:42:27.840
If we're gonna judge, here's how you judge rightly.
00:42:28.159 --> 00:42:37.119
And if we judge rightly, when you look at someone like Talarico and the so-called church that he's attended and continues to attend, the only determination you can make is that you're not a Christian.
00:42:37.679 --> 00:42:38.320
You're not.
00:42:38.480 --> 00:42:41.440
You're not a believer in the Christ that we worship.
00:42:41.760 --> 00:42:47.599
You don't believe in the God of the Bible, you believe in a made-up figurehead uh that that you like.
00:42:48.239 --> 00:42:56.559
And we know that because of how you've had to re-translate the word of God because you think there are some things in there that are, as you quoted, stupid.
00:42:57.199 --> 00:42:59.280
That's not a believer, that's not a Christian.
00:42:59.760 --> 00:43:03.280
And we should have the courage and the clarity to say, James Talerico is not a Christian.
00:43:03.679 --> 00:43:04.880
Do I want him to be saved?
00:43:04.960 --> 00:43:05.440
Yes.
00:43:05.679 --> 00:43:09.199
But and we can't judge the heart, but we're called to judge by action.
00:43:09.280 --> 00:43:18.639
And by all these actions, the thing we have to while we're saying is, hey, look, I know that the the race by Talarico's side has been painted as a Christian versus this guy who did bad things, but Talarico's no better.
00:43:18.880 --> 00:43:21.760
And and he's actually not a Christian, he doesn't actually believe in God at all.
00:43:22.079 --> 00:43:32.559
He's actually worse because he's appointed someone else and judging while sitting there rewriting scripture, saying that he doesn't like Christianity, saying that he learned from Islam and all these things.
00:43:32.719 --> 00:43:33.599
This is not a Christian.
00:43:33.840 --> 00:43:49.440
This is someone trying to run on a Christian platform because you're not gonna win in Texas as a Democrat, really in general, but especially not you know, the the situation where you have this guy who's just legitimately not a Christian at all, which is what Talarico is.
00:43:50.480 --> 00:43:54.639
And we again, uh the most important of this is that we have to be able to say that.
00:43:55.119 --> 00:43:58.960
I've seen a lot of people say, like, oh well, Taler Rico is kinda kinda crazy.
00:44:00.559 --> 00:44:02.239
Yeah, but what does that mean to your average voter?
00:44:02.400 --> 00:44:02.639
Nothing.
00:44:02.800 --> 00:44:04.239
I mean, you could say that about anybody.
00:44:04.559 --> 00:44:07.840
You have to have the courage to come out and say, no, Tylerico is not a Christian.
00:44:08.320 --> 00:44:09.280
He does not follow God.
00:44:09.440 --> 00:44:10.480
He is a false teacher.
00:44:10.559 --> 00:44:11.519
He is a wolf.
00:44:11.840 --> 00:44:18.559
And everything that he espouses about Christ is built on a false Bible, on a false word.
00:44:19.519 --> 00:44:24.159
And this guy actually hates Christ, actually hates everything that Christ stood for.
00:44:24.400 --> 00:44:27.599
He's willing to be in a church that violates federal law.
00:44:27.920 --> 00:44:43.599
He's willing to be in a church that preaches a Bible that has been butchered by them for the purpose of rewriting it only so that their narrative can be achieved, because they view their narrative as more important than God's.
00:44:44.960 --> 00:44:46.719
They want it to be their history instead of his.
00:44:59.599 --> 00:45:00.480
Are Christians going to sin?
00:45:00.559 --> 00:45:00.800
Yes.
00:45:01.280 --> 00:45:08.480
And if your favorite Christian or your favorite pastor gets caught in sin and you say, Well, man, I just can't believe he sinned, I'm I'm shocked.
00:45:08.800 --> 00:45:09.679
I believe it.
00:45:09.760 --> 00:45:11.440
I promise you, every single person sins.
00:45:11.599 --> 00:45:14.639
Now, some sins are more grievous, sure, but every single person sins.
00:45:15.599 --> 00:45:22.480
And if your f your hope is rooted in some guy you know or met or like not sinning, I got really bad news for you.
00:45:22.880 --> 00:45:24.480
He's going to get caught sinning.
00:45:24.559 --> 00:45:26.159
I promise you something's going to come out.
00:45:26.239 --> 00:45:27.039
It's going to happen.
00:45:27.199 --> 00:45:29.440
It's inevitable because people sin.
00:45:30.159 --> 00:45:43.679
But there is a difference in people who sin and repent and show shame and admit they sinned when they get caught, and people who come out and try to defend themselves and justify it and say, well, I I here's the justification, here's a verse I can twist to mean this, that, or the other.
00:45:44.960 --> 00:45:47.039
That's not what you expect from a believer.
00:45:47.199 --> 00:45:48.960
And that's what Talo Rico keeps doing.
00:45:49.119 --> 00:45:52.800
With that being said, we got a text in that's that we're going to respond to.
00:45:52.880 --> 00:45:56.000
It says Happy first day of fall, Michael.
00:45:56.079 --> 00:45:58.480
When do we get a notice the temps cool?
00:45:58.719 --> 00:46:00.800
Well, I actually have great news for you.
00:46:00.960 --> 00:46:01.519
Not really.
00:46:01.760 --> 00:46:05.519
We will talk all about maybe some of that in the final segment of the show.
00:46:05.760 --> 00:46:08.159
When we get back, we'll have our weather report coming up.
00:46:08.400 --> 00:46:13.920
I'll let you know, as far as I can see on the agenda, that's even remotely accurate if we see any temperatures coming down.
00:46:14.079 --> 00:46:17.519
Um, even biomonica would be nice now that we're officially in fault.
00:46:17.599 --> 00:46:18.960
We'll talk about it when we get back from the break.
00:46:19.039 --> 00:46:23.920
If you would like to text in as well, the number is 713-779-5978.
00:46:24.079 --> 00:46:28.320
That is 713-779-KYST.

I'm your host, Michael Wilson.

You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative, and Lord willing, I will return with our weather reports rather than the first hour of the show after this break.

We don't just fix AC, we engineer comfort.
00:47:34.000 --> 00:47:38.960
Call TextLent AC Service today at 281-402-5100.
00:47:39.039 --> 00:47:42.400
That's 281-402-5100.
00:47:43.199 --> 00:47:47.280
The Medicare Minute with Justin White is brought to you by Senior Health Services.
00:47:47.760 --> 00:47:55.119
Every year, usually in the month of September, those of you that are on Medicare are going to get a document called the Annual Notice of Change.
00:47:55.280 --> 00:48:05.599
And this document basically describes how your Medicare plan, whether it be a Medicare Advantage plan or your drug plan, is going to change for the coming year.
00:48:05.760 --> 00:48:11.360
And if it's just changing benefits, it'll show what your benefits look like this year versus what they're going to look like next year.
00:48:11.599 --> 00:48:14.239
So you can decide whether or not you want to stay in that plan.
00:48:14.400 --> 00:48:18.320
Sometimes they'll send you a notice that says your plan's going away entirely.
00:48:18.559 --> 00:48:22.960
So you do want to see that document to make sure that you pay attention to it.
00:48:23.199 --> 00:48:31.360
Now, the problem is that oftentimes that document looks like junk mail, and we get so much of that stuff nowadays, we just want to throw it away.
00:48:31.440 --> 00:48:52.320
So whatever company that you have, look at that card and just for the next few weeks, watch your mail for the annual notice of change so you can take a look at it and then call a trusted agent, brokers in particular, and look at what's going on with that plan and make a determination if that's somewhere you should stay or should you go shopping and try to find something better.
00:48:52.639 --> 00:48:56.079
Medicare choices are easier with a professional in your corner.
00:48:56.239 --> 00:49:01.599
Senior Health Services is not associated with the government, so you know you can trust them.
00:49:01.679 --> 00:49:07.519
Visit seniorhealth services.com today to connect with a trusted agent for a free consultation.
00:49:20.159 --> 00:49:25.679
Join me tonight at 9 on PatriotTalk920 and online at Patriot920.com.
00:49:50.559 --> 00:49:53.599
Going over what we have coming up, especially now that we're in fall.
00:49:53.679 --> 00:49:59.119
Of course, Houston's kicking off the start of astronomical fall with near record heat and elevated ozone levels today.
00:49:59.760 --> 00:50:04.960
Today's high could challenge our daily record of a hundred degrees, though we don't actually expect it to get quite that hot.
00:50:05.119 --> 00:50:12.400
The Tax Commission on Environmental Quality has issued an ozone action day as well for not only Houston, but as for for Galveston and Brisoria counties as well.
00:50:12.559 --> 00:50:15.679
Because ground level ozone can be formed from emissions from gasoline engines.
00:50:15.760 --> 00:50:20.239
They say, oh, you know, today's a good day to carpool, combine your errands, avoid drive-thru lanes, right?
00:50:20.800 --> 00:50:22.079
Those sorts of general things.
00:50:22.320 --> 00:50:34.159
Regardless of that, a milder weather pattern could arrive by later this week, courtesy of a backdoor front, which is a frontal boundary moving in from the northeast instead of the usual northwest, which pushes drier air into our region.
00:50:34.320 --> 00:50:44.000
If current model trends hold up, after temperatures could stay limited in the lower middle nineties, while overnight temperatures could dip into the upper 60s and low 70s, especially north of Houston.
00:50:44.159 --> 00:50:48.719
Now that temperature change may be noticeable, but again, it would not be a fall cold front of any sort.
00:50:48.960 --> 00:50:52.719
The autumnal equinox marks the beginning of astronomical fall.
00:50:52.880 --> 00:50:57.039
In Houston, again, we're writing to that with temperatures in the middle and upper nineties.
00:50:57.360 --> 00:51:04.719
A reminder that, by the way, the calendar, even though we want it to say fall, doesn't always align with our actual meteorology, unfortunately.
00:51:04.960 --> 00:51:13.280
Regardless of that, a meaningful shift may be possible around the first weekend of October when some forecast ensembles show the potential for below normal temperatures.
00:51:13.440 --> 00:51:15.039
That remains a trend right now.
00:51:15.280 --> 00:51:17.599
That's a guess rather than an official forecast.
00:51:17.920 --> 00:51:25.840
But regardless of if it comes then or not, the fact that we even have that pattern on the radar that we're looking at tells us we're headed in that general direction, right?
00:51:26.000 --> 00:51:32.559
The same thing that we get from Space City Weather, they said that next Monday should bring more of the same before we see the high pressure move off.
00:51:32.719 --> 00:51:39.519
Right now, the models are pushing toward Wednesday, having the best chance of rainfall next week, but it's difficult to have this much precision this far out.
00:51:39.679 --> 00:51:46.719
As for temperatures, increased cloud cover and rain should take some of the heat out of daytime highs, possibly pushing us down into the 80s.
00:51:46.880 --> 00:51:50.480
The pattern will also open up the possibility of a real fall front moving into the region.
00:51:50.639 --> 00:51:59.119
But as of now, we don't want to put a firm date on things, but we feel pretty confident saying that we should be done with this mid-upper 90s issue that has characterized much of September coming very soon.
00:51:59.199 --> 00:52:02.079
I'm also looking at the accueather monthly forecast.
00:52:02.320 --> 00:52:13.760
And I'm seeing by the first week of October, those highs may drop down into the mid-80s and those lows may drop down into the sixties, which would be a very different set of temperatures than what we're dealing with right now.
00:52:13.840 --> 00:52:14.639
A massive change.
00:52:14.800 --> 00:52:29.840
Now, with that being said, when we get back from the break, at the top of the next hour, we're gonna have David Gibson from Gun Owners of America Second Amendment hunters coming on to talk about a lesser-known side of the Second Amendment, hunting, and your right to keep and bear arms, which shall not be infringed.
00:52:29.920 --> 00:52:36.239
When we get back, text in 713-779-5978, and I'll be right back at the top of the next hour.
00:52:45.920 --> 00:52:52.159
From deep in the heart of Texas, it's Houston's God-loving patriot, the voice of reason.
00:52:52.480 --> 00:52:56.480
This is Clone Star Conservative, Michael Wilson.
00:53:24.880 --> 00:53:29.199
And we're approaching the Second Amendment from an angle that we really haven't spent much time talking about here on the show.
00:53:29.440 --> 00:53:32.960
You know, we say all the time, and you've probably heard it, the Second Amendment isn't about hunting, right?
00:53:33.039 --> 00:53:35.119
Because they try to say, well, it was it was to protect hunters.
00:53:35.280 --> 00:53:36.719
That's why they just wanted to make sure they could hunt.
00:53:36.800 --> 00:53:38.880
And we just had to say, no, this was much broader than that.
00:53:39.039 --> 00:53:42.960
But something that I think has been lost in translation there is, but it certainly includes hunting.
00:53:43.039 --> 00:53:46.480
And it includes your right to keep and bear arms wherever that's found.
00:53:46.719 --> 00:53:49.679
And so for millions of Americans, hunting is their introduction of firearms.
00:53:49.760 --> 00:53:51.840
It's how firearms are passed from one generation to another.
00:53:51.920 --> 00:53:54.960
It's a huge part of American gun culture.
00:53:55.199 --> 00:54:02.320
And Gunarms America actually has an entire operation dedicated to that community called GOA Second Amendment Hunters.
00:54:02.559 --> 00:54:07.840
Joining me is David Gibson, GOA's national hunting director and chairman of Second Amendment Hunters.
00:54:08.000 --> 00:54:09.280
And so, David, welcome to the show.
00:54:09.360 --> 00:54:10.320
Thanks for joining us.
00:54:10.719 --> 00:54:11.679
Good morning, brother.
00:54:11.760 --> 00:54:12.320
How are you doing?
00:54:12.559 --> 00:54:13.039
I'm doing well.
00:54:13.119 --> 00:54:13.519
I'm doing well.
00:54:13.599 --> 00:54:20.960
I'm very excited because, again, this is uh a part of the Second Amendment that I think is often, I don't want to say let fall by the wayside, but I don't think people are talking about it nearly as much.
00:54:21.039 --> 00:54:23.920
And I think we're gonna see that kind of through some of the numbers that we're gonna get into.
00:54:24.079 --> 00:54:26.559
Um, but can you first kind of give us a broad picture?
00:54:26.719 --> 00:54:28.880
What is GOA Second Amendment hunters?
00:54:29.119 --> 00:54:34.400
Like, why did GOA decide that hunters needed their own dedicated outreach effort?
00:54:35.119 --> 00:54:42.400
Well, we kind of have an epidemic in the hunting community um with 15 million hunters across the United States.
00:54:42.800 --> 00:54:47.039
Only about 50% of them are participating in the political process.
00:54:47.199 --> 00:54:55.440
So if you do the math, that's a staggering number sitting on the sidelines and uh and not having their voice heard.
00:54:55.840 --> 00:54:56.239
Right.
00:54:56.639 --> 00:55:05.440
I know absolutely, and I think it's I think it's crazy to me because again, you think about what all a part of hunting is, and you say, hey, this is actually a really important fight for you guys.
00:55:05.519 --> 00:55:09.119
That this is something that that is directly tied into your way of life.
00:55:09.280 --> 00:55:21.679
And to hear that there's millions upon millions of people who don't understand that and therefore aren't involved, especially with a lot of the fights that you know working with GOA that we have at the state and federal level, it's more important than ever that we have that involvement.
00:55:22.400 --> 00:55:23.440
It it really is.
00:55:23.599 --> 00:55:36.719
And and part of it is like you said earlier, is it's these Some of the good old boys will sit there and say that they're not gonna come after my grandpa's 30-odd six or or or or my hunting rifles, so to speak.
00:55:36.960 --> 00:55:47.679
But you and I both know that uh all firearms are at risk and and on the table for confiscation or just uh being outlawed in general.
00:55:48.079 --> 00:55:48.239
Right.
00:55:48.320 --> 00:56:10.000
And I I also want to remind people that, you know, it's kind of funny because whenever we we look at the way that the the not just the party, but the people that want gun control measures in, and that could be Republicans or Democrats, whoever it is, politicians in general that desire that, they're not very limited in the scope of why they do what they do, in the sense that whatever is politically possible and expedient at the time is what they'll jump on.
00:56:10.159 --> 00:56:15.599
And so if it's expedient for them to go after AR-15, despite the fact that we all know that AR-15s are not a problem, they go after it.
00:56:16.320 --> 00:56:18.960
They title it whatever way they have to in order to go after those things.
00:56:19.039 --> 00:56:23.519
And so if you think your guns are safe today, they may not be literally by tomorrow.
00:56:24.159 --> 00:56:24.480
Right.
00:56:24.880 --> 00:56:26.719
And so I go ahead.
00:56:27.760 --> 00:56:42.719
Well, I mean, they they take it as they come, it just takes one event, one one incident using one of these firearms, a hunting firearms, so to speak, for them to pounce on it and and pile on and and make that their their main focal point, you know.
00:56:43.119 --> 00:56:43.199
Right.
00:56:43.280 --> 00:56:46.400
And a lot of what GOA does, and I want to remind people is very preventative.
00:56:46.559 --> 00:56:55.199
A lot of the way that GOA has operated, and this is a good thing, is that they kind of preempt a lot of those policies by putting these rights into statutes in advance.
00:56:55.360 --> 00:56:57.119
But that requires the support of people.
00:56:57.280 --> 00:57:00.559
And so if you're saying, well, they're not coming for it today, they may come for it tomorrow.
00:57:00.719 --> 00:57:03.519
By tomorrow, it may be too late for us to preempt some of that.
00:57:03.599 --> 00:57:05.440
And so getting involved now is so crucial.
00:57:05.599 --> 00:57:19.519
Now, I do want to point out um, again, we we we often, when we talk about the Second Amendment, we we know that it's broad, but we often try to just boil it down into, well, it's just a tyrannical enforce mechanism to prevent tyranny.
00:57:19.599 --> 00:57:20.079
And that's true.
00:57:20.159 --> 00:57:21.679
Or we say, hey, it's just for self-defense.
00:57:21.760 --> 00:57:22.800
Well, that's also true.
00:57:23.039 --> 00:57:26.400
But when it says to keep and bear arms, that's incredibly broad.
00:57:26.559 --> 00:57:35.039
And I think pushing out one group, one of the biggest groups that uses their firearms, is incredibly dangerous, especially because you mentioned how many are not voting, that they're not super politically engaged.
00:57:35.199 --> 00:57:42.320
And so we talk about gun owners as this political constituency a lot of the time, but we don't necessarily target hunters.
00:57:42.400 --> 00:57:48.559
Um, whether whether they vote or they're contact lawmakers or they pay attention to what's going on in our state legislature and in Washington.
00:57:48.719 --> 00:57:55.920
Um, how how have you kind of seen that play out when you're talking to hunters in terms of, hey guys, this is actually a fight that really impacts you?
00:57:56.000 --> 00:57:58.079
How have those conversations sort of gone?
00:57:59.119 --> 00:58:04.159
Well, I mean, for the non-participants, I I think they just they don't know.
00:58:04.320 --> 00:58:15.280
You know, this day and age, we all kind of have political fatigue in the sense that we are bombarded with this 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
00:58:15.599 --> 00:58:25.599
And a lot of these guys go out to the woods and and participate in this tradition to get away from that and and to unwind and and forget about that.
00:58:25.760 --> 00:58:48.320
But when you start explaining to them what's actually happening and the infringements happening, not just with their gun rights, but with their their rights to use public land or or rights to use certain firearms on those public lands, they have no idea what's going on, you know, and and and they get this big shocked look on their face and have no answers for you.
00:58:49.039 --> 00:58:57.920
And really, I I just don't um I don't understand why it doesn't motivate them.
00:58:58.079 --> 00:59:18.159
They still walk away from the conversation with the attitude of, well, you know, that's crazy, but with no urgency to want to get involved in that's not all of them per se, but a good percentage of them, I think, are just stagnant in a way that they're just tired of being bombarded with the politics.
00:59:18.480 --> 00:59:23.119
And you and I both know these these elections have huge consequences.
00:59:23.360 --> 00:59:28.159
And um, I'm afraid some of them aren't gonna realize that until it's too late.
00:59:28.400 --> 00:59:28.559
Right.
00:59:28.639 --> 00:59:31.920
And I also remind everybody, this is why, and I I often say this about GOA.
00:59:32.079 --> 00:59:42.159
One of the things I really like, but but is dangerous, is that so many people see the work the GOA does, and I can't I think they kind of sit by the sidelines and say, well, they're handling it.
00:59:42.400 --> 00:59:47.679
And it's not just GOA, it's it's a variety of gun groups and people that say, well, that politician's pro-gun, he'll handle it.
00:59:47.760 --> 00:59:50.159
He's in my district, he's got this, I don't need to do anything.
00:59:50.320 --> 00:59:54.079
And I think they forget that in order for the politicians to do anything, they have to have the support of the people.
00:59:54.159 --> 01:00:00.960
We're in a republic, which means that every single one of us has a part to play in that political process, even if we're tired of it.
01:00:01.280 --> 01:00:06.480
One of the ways that I think we can see this, it's a good analogy, is with hunting.
01:00:06.559 --> 01:00:10.880
You mentioned it as a tradition, and it's very true, and it's not just the act itself, it's also the guns you use, right?
01:00:10.960 --> 01:00:14.400
A lot of hunters are getting guns that maybe their great-grandfather used to hunt.
01:00:14.719 --> 01:00:20.960
And so you see families passing down the physical objects, passing down the firearms.
01:00:21.119 --> 01:00:26.480
And one of the big reminders is are you passing down the rights to keep and bear them?
01:00:26.719 --> 01:00:33.039
You may be passing down the guns themselves, but are you fighting to make sure that not only do they get to have the guns, but they have the right to have the guns.
01:00:33.199 --> 01:00:38.000
And that is arguably significantly more important than just the the objects themselves.
01:00:38.159 --> 01:00:39.119
I think that's getting lost.
01:00:39.440 --> 01:00:43.519
I think it's the I want to leave this for my kids, but am I leaving more than just the object itself?
01:00:43.599 --> 01:00:45.519
Am I leaving the basis for it?
01:00:46.320 --> 01:00:56.159
Well, and and are are you leaving the mindset that it is our responsibility to fight for this for the next generation, for their kids, for our grandkids.
01:00:56.400 --> 01:00:59.360
Um it's like like you said, it's not just the object.
01:00:59.519 --> 01:01:08.000
We have to pass down the fighting spirit and the responsibility the the importance of the responsibility to to retain this, you know.
01:01:08.400 --> 01:01:08.559
Right.
01:01:08.639 --> 01:01:16.800
And I also want to point out, you know, when most people hear gun control, you immediately you start the a lot of people will think about AR-15s and concealed carry and magazine restrictions, stuff like that.
01:01:16.880 --> 01:01:19.760
Um, but there are laws and regulations that could affect hunters, right?
01:01:19.840 --> 01:01:32.880
Even today, right, there are regulations on everything from ammunition to suppressors to particular firearms, but you mentioned federal land, you know, transportation, all those sorts of things actually are on the table and do impact hunters.
01:01:32.960 --> 01:01:34.639
Can you walk us through some of those?
01:01:35.519 --> 01:01:36.880
Um yeah.
01:01:37.119 --> 01:01:43.519
Um we both know that that uh well let's go here.
01:01:43.760 --> 01:01:55.679
Trump has uh you know been above board and trying to open up more federal public land, trying to open up more freedoms for the hunters.
01:01:55.760 --> 01:02:14.000
But if you actually read into what he's saying um and his executive orders, he leaves a lot of this up to the state and up to the state agencies to to write these new laws and and open up these these uh lands and opportunities for hunters.
01:02:14.239 --> 01:02:34.320
But if the hunters don't you know raise their voice in their their own state and tell their their politicians what needs to happen and and hold them accountable for what Trump's trying to do, they're just gonna wait waste their time out and uh let all these go by the wayside.
01:02:34.719 --> 01:02:35.280
Absolutely.
01:02:35.440 --> 01:02:44.079
Now, another thing that I think people forget about, and you kind of did touch on it for a moment, but it's also because hunters are often also very involved in conservation, right?
01:02:44.159 --> 01:02:50.159
Yeah, I I think some people, especially when you get into like the vegan mindset, they think that hunters are just these murderous buffoons.
01:02:50.239 --> 01:02:56.960
Um, and I think they forget that there's a whole level of tradition associated with hunting um from conservation and wildlife management.
01:02:57.119 --> 01:03:03.760
I think that's often undersold, but they're directly intertwined with gun rights, and we see those things violated frequently.
01:03:04.639 --> 01:03:05.280
Absolutely.
01:03:05.440 --> 01:03:12.000
I mean, hunters are the original conservationists before before people start eating lettuce and hugging trees.
01:03:12.079 --> 01:03:16.000
That it was the hunters out there managing the wildlife, managing the land.
01:03:16.320 --> 01:03:24.159
Sounding the alarms when when when certain species were being harvested at a higher rate and they could replenish themselves.
01:03:24.480 --> 01:03:35.920
Um it it is our job again to to maintain um what's the words I'm looking for?
01:03:36.239 --> 01:03:38.719
Um just to conserve for the next generation.
01:03:39.039 --> 01:03:42.239
You know, uh if if we don't, it's not gonna be there for them.
01:03:42.480 --> 01:03:45.920
Right, to be good stewards of the resources we've been given is incredibly important.
01:03:46.239 --> 01:03:48.800
Um I want to kind of make this a little more personal for a minute.
01:03:49.119 --> 01:03:50.559
How did you kind of get into hunting?
01:03:50.639 --> 01:03:51.679
What does that look like for you?
01:03:52.000 --> 01:03:53.199
Something that you look forward to.
01:03:53.360 --> 01:03:55.039
Where did that sort of come from?
01:03:55.679 --> 01:03:58.559
You know, I I didn't grow up in a hunting family.
01:03:58.719 --> 01:04:00.079
You know, I always wanted to.
01:04:00.159 --> 01:04:03.679
Um hunting and fishing were were huge to me when I was a kid.
01:04:03.760 --> 01:04:06.639
I didn't get to participate a lot in the hunting access.
01:04:07.440 --> 01:04:15.039
Um, I didn't hunter fish, but I had an uncle that did hunter fish, and he would take me out when he could, and I would just hook on it.
01:04:15.440 --> 01:04:31.440
Um as I got older and more mobile and be able to go play through the line, that's when when I really started um getting obsessed with with their tradition and just from there just never stopped.
01:04:31.599 --> 01:04:49.679
And now you know I originally grew up in California and and it used to be Texas is now, you know, and and slowly waned and and got uh you know legislated to death, so to speak, as far as participating in these opportunities.
01:04:50.480 --> 01:05:01.599
Um so we came to California in 2018, sounding the alarm and uh trying to wake people up to the fact that this is coming to this state as well.
01:05:01.840 --> 01:05:02.000
Right.
01:05:02.079 --> 01:05:10.400
And I remind everybody, and I'm glad you mentioned that because I've said this before, it's easy to point to places like New York and to California and say, well, those people are lost.
01:05:10.480 --> 01:05:11.599
It's just too late for them.
01:05:11.760 --> 01:05:15.119
But here in Texas, it's the good old place, you know, we're the Wild West now.
01:05:15.280 --> 01:05:19.440
And I remind everybody, do you think California was like that a hundred years ago, fifty years ago?
01:05:19.679 --> 01:05:24.320
Do you think New York City, New York City used to put crosses up on their skyscrapers?
01:05:24.639 --> 01:05:28.320
They used to be these these bastions of freedom, and now they're not.
01:05:28.480 --> 01:05:30.800
And you might think to yourself, what happened?
01:05:30.960 --> 01:05:36.159
And the biggest part of this, as I often remind people, being in a republic, is that people didn't stand up.
01:05:36.480 --> 01:05:38.719
And in Texas, we think we have all these freedoms.
01:05:38.880 --> 01:05:39.679
They're not magic.
01:05:39.840 --> 01:05:41.119
They're fought and died for.
01:05:41.280 --> 01:05:45.760
And if we if somebody's not gonna do it, if somebody's not willing to stand up, it's not gonna go anywhere.
01:05:45.920 --> 01:05:49.280
Now, I want to talk a little bit about this detail aspect just for a moment.
01:05:49.840 --> 01:05:54.880
Can you give me some examples of what Second Amendment hunters is actually doing on the ground?
01:05:54.960 --> 01:05:58.719
Like if somebody joins or wants to get involved, what does that process actually look like?
01:07:04.719 --> 01:07:10.960
So, you know, for somebody to do that, you can look us up on Facebook and Instagram at Second Amendment Hunters.
01:07:11.199 --> 01:07:14.639
You can go to gunowners.org and plug in there.
01:07:14.800 --> 01:07:19.199
Um everything that we're doing is on the website and social media.
01:07:19.360 --> 01:07:21.360
So reach out to us if you want to be involved.
01:07:21.440 --> 01:07:22.320
We'd love to have you.
01:07:22.639 --> 01:07:23.039
Excellent.
01:07:23.119 --> 01:07:28.559
And and again, that's David Gibson, National Hunting Director for Gun Owners of America and chairman of GOA Second Amendment Hunters.
01:07:28.719 --> 01:07:29.599
David, we appreciate the time.
01:07:29.679 --> 01:07:31.679
We'd love to have you back sometime to talk more about all of this.
01:07:31.760 --> 01:07:37.679
And we appreciate you, all the work that you're doing in I think uh an often overlooked aspect of the Second Amendment.
01:07:37.760 --> 01:07:39.440
And we appreciate you giving us your time.
01:07:39.840 --> 01:07:41.199
Absolutely, brother.
01:07:41.440 --> 01:07:42.239
Talk to you soon.
01:07:42.480 --> 01:07:43.199
Talk to you soon.
01:07:43.440 --> 01:07:48.239
And again, ladies and gentlemen, this has been 2A Tuesday brought to you by Collectors Firearms.
01:07:48.320 --> 01:07:53.519
That's David Gibson, the National Hunting Director for Gun Owners of America and the chairman of GOA Second Amendment Hunters.
01:07:53.679 --> 01:07:56.320
You know, again, I just want to highlight it because I think it's important.
01:07:56.480 --> 01:08:06.320
We want to pass things down to our children, but the most important thing we pass down is the character and the rights that we're afforded by nature of what our ancestors have fought and died for.
01:08:06.480 --> 01:08:08.880
And those things are incredibly crucial.
01:08:09.119 --> 01:08:16.399
It's phenomenal that you can pass down an inheritance, whether that's your home or your firearms, or maybe you have gold in a safe somewhere from your grandfather.
01:08:16.560 --> 01:08:17.279
It's excellent.
01:08:17.520 --> 01:08:24.000
But those things become irrelevant if we're not also passing down the fighting spirit of America and passing down the rights that we've been afforded.
01:08:24.239 --> 01:08:27.119
If we're not passing that down, what are we passing down at all?
01:08:27.359 --> 01:08:30.159
And I think it's incredibly important that we're involved in this fight.
01:08:30.239 --> 01:08:35.439
So again, you can go check them out on their website or their Facebook or Instagram social media and get involved.
01:08:35.520 --> 01:08:44.399
But it's incredibly important that we're addressing all sides of this issue so that everyone can band together to fight the fight against those who would tyrannically revoke our rights out from underneath us.
01:08:44.560 --> 01:08:46.880
Again, that's two A Tuesday from Collectors' Firearms.
01:08:46.960 --> 01:08:48.159
With that being said, we get back from the break.
01:08:48.319 --> 01:09:00.880
Houston City Council is testing its limits, its its its its limits on the three years after they originally passed Proposition A by the voters, which allows City Council members to basically I don't want to say usurp the mayor, but essentially.
01:09:01.199 --> 01:09:12.079
We'll also get into an update on what happened down with the deputy in Brazoria, who was accused of excessive force in an incident months before killing a Texas state student.
01:09:12.239 --> 01:09:13.439
We'll go over all of that when we get back.
01:09:13.520 --> 01:09:19.520
If you would like to text in, as always, the number is 713-779-5978.
01:09:19.600 --> 01:09:20.079
One more time.
01:09:20.159 --> 01:09:24.000
That is 713-779-KYST.
01:09:24.079 --> 01:09:25.279
I'm your host, Michael Wilson.

01:09:31.359 --> 01:09:33.680

Here on Houston's Leader for Gun Owners, Patriot Talk 920.
01:13:47.600 --> 01:13:49.039
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
01:13:49.119 --> 01:13:58.399
I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative nearly three years after Houston voters approved a measure, giving the City Council more power in Houston's strong mayoral system.
01:13:58.640 --> 01:14:00.560
Proposition A has not been used very often.
01:14:00.880 --> 01:14:02.000
It's been used sort of sparingly.
01:14:02.079 --> 01:14:17.840
Proposition A, by the way, is uh limp kind of kind of a way that multiple City Council members can bring a proposition before City Council rather than it being a m mayoral-led effort, uh just to kind of make sure that there's checks and balances on the way that the city operates, which is a good thing in theory.
01:14:18.159 --> 01:14:22.079
But sometimes it's often been used as a way to get around what the people actually want.
01:14:22.239 --> 01:14:22.960
I'll give an example of this.
01:14:23.039 --> 01:14:36.560
Back in April, we know that they had they used Proposition A to get a proposal aimed at limiting how Houston police cooperate with Federal Immigration Authorities, um, which prompted a shutdown, a showdown with Governor Greg Abbott and a dispute over the role of the mayor's administration.
01:14:36.720 --> 01:14:48.159
Uh and last month's split that faced landlords, uh that forced landlords essentially to provide air conditioning and rental units, prompted Mayor John Whitmeyer to question whether proposition A proposals are sufficiently vetted in the first place.
01:14:48.319 --> 01:14:59.439
Again, it was designed and it was proposed and it was presented to the voters as a way to give council members a direct path to bring lawful proposals before the full council with the support of two colleagues.
01:14:59.680 --> 01:15:06.640
Whitmeyer prefers that every proposal first be reviewed by a council committee, however, to prevent what he calls unintended consequences.
01:15:06.880 --> 01:15:14.640
The city attorney, who reports to the mayor, also reviews each proposition A proposal to ensure that it's lawful, which some council members say could undermine a proposal if the mayor opposes it.
01:15:14.880 --> 01:15:20.079
These disagreements have raised a broader question, I think, about how much power Proposition A really gives council members.
01:15:20.479 --> 01:15:27.359
Nancy Sims, a political science lecturer at the University of Houston, said Proposition A has expanded City Council's power to a degree, but you still need the mayor's support.
01:15:27.680 --> 01:15:36.319
And so uh Sims said that Proposition A's use may fluctuate with and dependent on the administration that's in the mayoralship at the time.
01:15:36.880 --> 01:15:41.279
Whitmeyer, meanwhile, says that Proposition A is completely unnecessary during his administration.
01:15:41.439 --> 01:15:44.640
He said if someone's got a good idea that helps Houston, they can walk in my office and propose it any day.
01:15:44.720 --> 01:15:45.520
They don't have to go through that.
01:15:45.600 --> 01:15:46.960
They don't have to get their support of multiple people.
01:15:47.199 --> 01:15:50.159
If they bring it to me and it's a good idea, I'll go forward with it.
01:15:50.319 --> 01:15:58.640
Um council members, since it was adopted, have introduced 18 proposals in the past three years through Proposition A, eleven of which have passed.
01:15:58.720 --> 01:16:04.479
So eleven of our total ordinances over the past three years have been passed through this proposition.
01:16:04.800 --> 01:16:12.800
Some of the proposals involved policy questions, including immigration, policing, the city tax rate, when and how citizens can address their city government.
01:16:13.039 --> 01:16:22.319
Others were narrower, like one of them was renaming terminal E at Bush Intercontinental after Sheila Jackson Lee, um, or requiring nightclubs to post their dress codes.
01:16:22.479 --> 01:16:31.439
Um other proposals made it easier for council members to build speed cushions, you know, we might call them speed bumps in neighborhoods and barred police from using traffic stop quotas.
01:16:31.520 --> 01:16:32.800
Some of those have been good.
01:16:33.199 --> 01:16:40.800
Um you also have it's interesting because Charles Blaine, uh, we all know and love Charles Blaine, uh, who has led a lot of different efforts.
01:16:40.960 --> 01:16:41.520
We know this.
01:16:41.680 --> 01:16:46.159
One of the things that he did was lead a coalition to gather signatures to place the item on the ballot back in 2023.
01:16:46.239 --> 01:16:47.359
He's been in this a long time.
01:16:47.520 --> 01:16:51.600
And he said that council members are using proposition A to look at bigger things, including social issues.
01:16:52.079 --> 01:16:53.920
He said that's their prerogative.
01:16:54.399 --> 01:16:57.359
They are the owners of these ordinances now, which is the underlying point that we're excited about.
01:16:57.439 --> 01:16:59.840
It's another layer of accountability.
01:17:00.399 --> 01:17:04.000
And so, again, these these are the example that I give often.
01:17:04.239 --> 01:17:08.399
The things that are really good in theory need to be used.
01:17:08.960 --> 01:17:09.359
Right?
01:17:09.840 --> 01:17:12.239
This is this is true all of the time.
01:17:12.640 --> 01:17:15.840
And I I want to bring back GOA up to to kind of point this out.
01:17:16.319 --> 01:17:19.119
You have a God-given right to keep and bear arms.
01:17:19.279 --> 01:17:20.399
What's the purpose of that?
01:17:20.640 --> 01:17:21.920
I mean, it's it's broad, right?
01:17:22.000 --> 01:17:25.760
We just talked about hunters, so obviously that's one purpose is that you're actually able to provide food for your family.
01:17:25.840 --> 01:17:26.800
That's kind of important.
01:17:27.039 --> 01:17:37.520
But it's more than that, it also includes the right to defend your family from uh someone trying to break in your home or someone assaulting you on public transportation, whatever that looks like, you have the right to defend yourself and your family.
01:17:38.000 --> 01:17:43.039
It's also the main right that prevents tyrannical government from overstepping its boundaries.
01:17:43.119 --> 01:17:51.439
It is the only enforcement mechanism in the entirety of the Constitution, other than checks and balances themselves, that prevents the federal government from acting in a tyrannical manner.
01:17:51.520 --> 01:17:52.880
It was designed to do that.
01:17:53.119 --> 01:17:55.119
And so those things are all great.
01:17:55.600 --> 01:17:59.439
But if the uh if you separate either of the things out, it fails.
01:18:00.159 --> 01:18:02.159
If you take the rights away, it fails.
01:18:02.319 --> 01:18:10.640
But if you have the right and no one uses it, no one stands up for it, and nobody utilizes that right to defend their family, it's it's pointless.
01:18:11.039 --> 01:18:12.239
You actually have to use the right.
01:18:12.319 --> 01:18:13.600
That means going and getting training.
01:18:13.760 --> 01:18:21.680
It means going to the range, it means being prepared for a life or death situation, knowing your rights, being informed, it requires a lot of involvement.
01:18:22.239 --> 01:18:25.920
And that is also why you should become a member of our sponsor, Gun Owners of America.
01:18:26.000 --> 01:18:28.640
If you're not already, which if you listen to the show, hopefully you already are.
01:18:28.720 --> 01:18:31.439
But if you're not, you can go to GOAHouston.com.
01:18:31.520 --> 01:18:32.960
It's a$25 annual membership.
01:18:33.039 --> 01:18:35.520
And let me tell you what that$25 goes to.
01:18:35.600 --> 01:18:38.560
Because, you know, in this economy, people wondering, does$25 really go that far?
01:18:38.720 --> 01:18:41.039
Well, it does when you have enough people that are willing to give it.
01:18:41.279 --> 01:18:51.760
It goes towards campaigning for candidates for office who are actually dedicated to the Second Amendment fight, who actually care about your rights and your abilities to defend your home and your family.
01:18:51.920 --> 01:18:56.560
It means preparing for the legislative session, often years in advance.
01:18:56.720 --> 01:19:00.720
Uh, we talked to Richard Hayes, he's the chief legislative counsel for Gunner of America.
01:19:01.119 --> 01:19:05.520
He said something that cracked me up one time because he said, you know, the legislative session ended.
01:19:05.600 --> 01:19:06.319
We said we did a good job.
01:19:06.399 --> 01:19:07.359
We gave ourselves a pat on the back.
01:19:07.439 --> 01:19:10.319
He said, and then that night I was already in my office preparing for the next one.
01:19:10.479 --> 01:19:11.920
He said, and people were like, you're crazy.
01:19:12.079 --> 01:19:13.199
He's like, yeah, but we have to prepare.
01:19:13.279 --> 01:19:14.319
We have to be ready for the next one.
01:19:14.479 --> 01:19:17.760
So that$25 goes to them preparing for the next legislative session.
01:19:17.840 --> 01:19:37.279
And for then them lobbying in that legislative session, that also means that if something makes it through the cracks, whether that's a law, an ordinance, an executive order, whatever it may be, uh, an agency prerogative, whatever it is, GOA is there at the rally to take it to court to sue on behalf of the American people to say this is a violation of our rights.
01:19:37.439 --> 01:19:40.399
But again, that requires your support for them to do what they do.
01:19:40.560 --> 01:19:42.960
We can't just sit on the sidelines and hope they do a good job.
01:19:43.119 --> 01:19:44.319
We have to support their mission.
01:19:44.479 --> 01:19:47.039
And you can do that by going to goahuston.com.
01:19:47.119 --> 01:19:51.359
It is a$25 a year membership, which all goes back to the things we just talked about again.
01:19:51.439 --> 01:19:53.680
That is G-O-Ahouston.com.
01:19:53.760 --> 01:19:58.640
Now, we also need to talk a little bit about what's going on in this issue down south.
01:19:58.720 --> 01:20:11.840
The former Brizoria County deputy, who shot and killed a reportedly unarmed 18-year-old in Lake Jackson back in June, allegedly fractured a resident's ankle during a traffic stop months earlier, according to the federal lawsuit that was filed last week.
01:20:12.000 --> 01:20:23.520
Kevin Tippett, the ex-deputy who was indicted last month in the killing of John Garrillo Mendoza Jr., was sued in federal court for allegedly using excessive force against Brisouri County resident Justin Parker back in December of last year.
01:20:23.760 --> 01:20:38.560
A 22-page complaint, which was filed a week ago, last Tuesday, I believe, claims that Tippet Tippett kicked Parker's legs out from under him, dug his knee into Parker's back, and shoved his face into the roadway when responding to a deadly conduct call that yielded ultimately no criminal charges.
01:20:38.800 --> 01:20:45.600
A group of bar patrons had assaulted Parker and his friend earlier that night in Damon before police received a report that Parker fired a weapon at the establishment.
01:20:45.760 --> 01:20:48.800
Parker denied the claim and was released again without being excited or charged.
01:20:48.880 --> 01:20:50.319
There was no evidence he actually did that.
01:20:50.560 --> 01:20:56.880
Parker's shirt was turned off, torn off during the assault, and when Tippett drove his knee into Parker's back, he was restrained and unarmed.
01:20:57.279 --> 01:21:08.720
The lawsuit, the filing, reads, quote, Defendant Tippett maintained this position for approximately two or more minutes, even though the plaintiff was handcuffed, prone, unarmed, shirtless, not resisting, not attempting to flee, and had been compliant from the beginning of the stop.
01:21:08.960 --> 01:21:14.640
The lawsuit names Tippett and four other members of the Brizouria County Sheriff's Office as defendants, in addition to the county government.
01:21:14.800 --> 01:21:19.760
An attorney for Tippett and the other Sheriff's Office defendants did not appear in federal court records as of last Monday.
01:21:20.000 --> 01:21:24.239
Spokesman for the Sheriff's Office and County Government did not immediately return a request for comment either.
01:21:24.479 --> 01:21:32.800
Uh, though a spokesman for the Brisouria County District Attorney's Office directed everyone to a webpage for public information act requests where you can go through the formal process.
01:21:33.600 --> 01:21:46.800
Meanwhile, again, we all know this is also on top of the shooting event that happened back in June, that there's still, by the way, a lot of questions surrounding exactly what happened, why it happened, and who was ultimately at fault.
01:21:47.039 --> 01:21:57.039
But one of the big things that I want to talk about is again, this goes back to a conversation we've had to have very frequently, which is frustrating because we shouldn't have to have it, because so many people don't even know what nuance is.
01:21:57.520 --> 01:21:59.760
And it's dangerous to not know what nuance is.
01:22:00.000 --> 01:22:14.479
And I'll give you a very clear example of what nuance is, because this is the topic where you see it displayed all the time against people on the right, is when it comes to what you mean when you say the word Nazi.
01:22:14.880 --> 01:22:17.359
And I'm dead serious about this, right?
01:22:18.159 --> 01:22:23.359
If you want to build gas chambers for Jews, are you a Nazi?
01:22:23.520 --> 01:22:28.800
Well, yeah, we can all acknowledge yes, that's bad, and that's how it associates with the problems we saw in Nazi ideology.
01:22:28.960 --> 01:22:29.680
Okay, sure.
01:22:30.079 --> 01:22:31.600
What if you drink water?
01:22:32.000 --> 01:22:32.800
Are you a Nazi?
01:22:33.199 --> 01:22:35.279
Well, the Nazis drank water, right?
01:22:35.359 --> 01:22:35.920
They they did.
01:22:36.079 --> 01:22:39.520
They breathe air, you breathe air, you breathe air, you drink water.
01:22:39.680 --> 01:22:41.439
Do you walk on your feet instead of your hands?
01:22:41.600 --> 01:22:42.880
Well, the Nazis did that too.
01:22:43.039 --> 01:22:43.840
Do you wear clothes?
01:22:43.920 --> 01:22:45.840
Because usually the Nazis were wearing clothes.
01:22:46.079 --> 01:22:51.520
And you start to list out all the things that every human being does, and you say, well, the Nazis did that, so every human being really is a Nazi.
01:22:51.600 --> 01:23:01.279
Well, nuance would say, no, we can differentiate between what is good and what is evil, what is normal and what is not normal, and use that to make a determination as to what is good and what is wrong.
01:23:01.439 --> 01:23:04.159
And this is the issue you get into with tribal politics.
01:23:04.319 --> 01:23:06.399
There's no longer any room for nuance.
01:23:06.640 --> 01:23:07.840
And it's dangerous.
01:23:08.079 --> 01:23:13.920
If you say that I'm required to support everything that Trump ever does because Trump was a good president, that's insane.
01:23:14.159 --> 01:23:21.359
I should be able to have opinions of my own and say, hey, I think it's really good that Trump puts a people on the Supreme Court that that overruled Roe v.
01:23:21.439 --> 01:23:22.399
Wayne, that overturned.
01:23:22.479 --> 01:23:23.199
That was excellent.
01:23:23.279 --> 01:23:29.920
I don't think it's really bad when Trump comes out and says that there should be uh six weeks for abortion, that that should be totally fine at every state level.
01:23:30.079 --> 01:23:30.880
That's really bad.
01:23:31.039 --> 01:23:36.880
I think it's really good that generally speaking, you know, a variety of the things that Trump has done, I can say these are all good.
01:23:36.960 --> 01:23:40.479
And then I can point to some others and say, hey, these are not so good, and we should hold them accountable for these.
01:23:40.640 --> 01:23:41.520
That's nuance.
01:23:42.079 --> 01:23:43.600
Same thing with law enforcement.
01:23:43.920 --> 01:23:49.520
You'll find a lot of people who say ACAB, which, you know, is the more profane version of all cops are bad.
01:23:49.680 --> 01:23:52.800
And then you have other people that say, you know, no, we support our our boys in blue.
01:23:52.880 --> 01:23:56.159
They have the blue line, you know, on their on their as a bumper sticker.
01:23:56.560 --> 01:24:04.800
And the problem is that the people that are part of the ACAB movement, they can never admit that actually law enforcement serves a legitimate purpose.
01:24:04.960 --> 01:24:08.079
They s they risk their lives every day for your safety.
01:24:08.239 --> 01:24:19.760
But some people on the other side, our side, are so pro-law enforcement that when law enforcement does do something objectively wrong, they're quick to defend them anyways and say, well, no, we have to we have to back them.
01:24:20.159 --> 01:24:22.560
It's like, well, what if they did something that abused their power?
01:24:22.800 --> 01:24:27.279
What about if they use the flock camera system to stalk their ex-girlfriend?
01:24:27.680 --> 01:24:33.520
What if they shot an unarmed, you know, teenager for no reason at all because he was just a little trigger happy?
01:24:33.680 --> 01:24:34.880
We can't, we can't defend now.
01:24:34.960 --> 01:24:35.920
We have to say, no, that's wrong.
01:24:36.079 --> 01:24:37.760
And of course, we don't know that that's the case in this case.
01:24:37.840 --> 01:24:41.439
I'm not trying to go after this particular officer and say he did anything wrong, anything like that.
01:24:41.680 --> 01:24:52.159
What I am saying is we have to, if we're going to be conservatives, if we're gonna be Christians, if we're gonna be involved in politics, we cannot become the tribal monsters that the left has become.
01:24:52.399 --> 01:25:01.439
We have to utilize nuance, we have to utilize critical thinking, and we have to approach things on a policy by policy and case by case basis to address real issues.
01:25:01.600 --> 01:25:10.960
We cannot sit here and play the game where we say, well, if they're on our side, then we always support them, even when they're caught in a massive transgression, even when they've done something absolutely awful, we have to support them.
01:25:11.119 --> 01:25:14.239
No, we have to be we have to be better than that.
01:25:14.560 --> 01:25:16.399
We have to be, or we're nothing at all.
01:25:16.560 --> 01:25:27.920
If we can't hold our own side accountable when there are legitimate issues, and that doesn't mean that it gives you free reign to just go after anybody on your side in the name of, well, see, look, I'm the real based objective guy because I'm going after everybody.
01:25:28.079 --> 01:25:28.800
I'm not saying that.
01:25:28.960 --> 01:25:30.000
You have a lot of those guys out there.
01:25:30.079 --> 01:25:36.880
I'm not going to name names, but in the political space, you have a lot of commentators nowadays who just want to counter signal.
01:25:36.960 --> 01:25:41.600
And so they'll go after every Republican politician and say, he's bad and he's bad and he's bought and paid for.
01:25:41.680 --> 01:25:49.039
And they do this and they think that it makes them cool and makes them different and makes them, oh, look, I'm objective because I'm willing to go after everybody.
01:25:49.359 --> 01:25:49.680
No.
01:25:50.239 --> 01:25:52.319
But it means using your brain.
01:25:52.640 --> 01:25:55.680
I know that's a foreign concept in politics nowadays, right?
01:25:55.840 --> 01:25:59.600
Politicians should be changed out, you know, often for the same reason as diapers.
01:25:59.680 --> 01:26:00.399
We know that.
01:26:01.039 --> 01:26:06.479
It means utilizing your brain and thinking and saying, hey, do I support our law enforcement?
01:26:06.640 --> 01:26:07.439
Absolutely.
01:26:07.840 --> 01:26:10.000
Am I incredibly thankful for the work they do?
01:26:10.159 --> 01:26:10.800
Absolutely.
01:26:10.960 --> 01:26:12.560
Do I think they should have access to flock?
01:26:12.800 --> 01:26:13.039
No.
01:26:13.439 --> 01:26:17.359
Do I think they should be able to shoot anybody and ask questions later and hope for the best?
01:26:17.600 --> 01:26:17.840
No.
01:26:18.079 --> 01:26:20.640
Do I think that their authority is endless?
01:26:20.960 --> 01:26:21.119
No.
01:26:21.279 --> 01:26:22.319
I don't want tyranny.
01:26:23.039 --> 01:26:26.720
But you can use your brain to say, I support law enforcement and don't support these things.
01:26:26.880 --> 01:26:32.239
And it's called nuance, and it's too infrequently used these days, especially in politics.
01:26:32.479 --> 01:26:34.399
With that being said, we get back from the break.
01:26:34.640 --> 01:26:47.359
A federal judge has now paused the Texas GOP lawsuit to close primaries, given that the Texas legislature is expected to close the primaries during the upcoming legislative session, making an immediate ruling unnecessary in the first place.
01:26:47.439 --> 01:26:51.840
So we'll talk about what that federal judge said and did and the importance of that when we get back from the break.
01:26:52.000 --> 01:27:00.560
If you would like to text into the show, if you have any questions on something that I've said, maybe you misheard me, maybe I misspoke, or maybe I said something that you think is just plain wrong, text in and let us know.

You can always do that during the show at 713-779-5978.
01:27:05.520 --> 01:27:06.000
One more time.
01:27:06.079 --> 01:27:10.479
That is 713-779-KYST.
01:27:10.640 --> 01:27:11.840

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
01:31:24.399 --> 01:31:27.520
I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative.
01:31:27.680 --> 01:31:40.319
For some background on this case, for those who may not be aware, Texas law requires open primary elections, which again, for those who may not even know what that term means, it means that the Republican Party has to allow any eligible voter to vote in its nominating contest.
01:31:40.720 --> 01:31:42.880
And it does not matter who you're going to vote for in the general.
01:31:43.039 --> 01:31:45.760
So say somebody wanted to vote for James Tallerico.
01:31:45.840 --> 01:31:48.800
They want to take they or a Democrat, because they're not voting in the primary, right?
01:31:49.039 --> 01:31:51.920
They don't know if it's going to be Jasmine Crockett or James Tallerico.
01:31:52.079 --> 01:31:54.000
They just want a Democrat in the seat.
01:31:54.319 --> 01:31:59.199
But they know that being Texas, there is a large chance that the Democrat does not win.
01:31:59.520 --> 01:32:00.319
So what do they do?
01:32:00.399 --> 01:32:12.159
Just strategically to cut their losses, what they'll do is they'll go say, well, if we lose in the general, at least let us lose to someone who's not going to be crazy in their mind.
01:32:12.399 --> 01:32:17.920
And so what they'll do is they'll say, I don't care if it's Crockett or if it's Tallerico or whoever it is, as long as they're on the Democrat platform.
01:32:18.000 --> 01:32:21.680
So I'm going to go in, I'm going to vote in the Republican primary for John Cornyn.
01:32:22.079 --> 01:32:32.960
And then in November I'll go vote for whoever the Democrat candidate ends up being, because I didn't care, but I just wanted to make sure that should we lose, maybe at least we can have John Cornyn and not someone like Ken Paxton in office.
01:32:33.279 --> 01:32:35.760
And they do this frequently, and you can't really blame them.
01:32:35.920 --> 01:32:36.880
It's good political strategy.
01:32:36.960 --> 01:32:45.920
If you don't care who the Democrat is and you think you're going to lose in the general anyways, you might as well flip the vote on the primary and get a more in your mind moderate candidate.
01:32:46.319 --> 01:32:57.039
However, the Republican Party and the people of the Republican Party want a closed primary system, uh, which means that only those who are voting Republican, you have to register.
01:32:57.439 --> 01:33:05.119
That means that if you're gonna if you want to vote in the general for a Republican candidate, that's the only way that you can vote for a primary candidate for the Republican nomination.
01:33:05.359 --> 01:33:07.359
Same with Democrats, by the way, it would apply both ways.
01:33:07.520 --> 01:33:13.600
That if you are planning to vote for Taller Rico or Crockett come November, then you have to vote for either Taller Rico or Crockett in the primary.
01:33:13.840 --> 01:33:14.640
You have to register.
01:33:14.800 --> 01:33:16.319
There's multiple states that do this.
01:33:16.560 --> 01:33:17.920
Texas does not.
01:33:18.319 --> 01:33:24.560
And so the party adopted and ratified Rule 46, which required voters in its primary election to register as Republicans.
01:33:24.800 --> 01:33:29.520
In September of last year, Chip Hunt and the Texas GOP filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S.
01:33:29.680 --> 01:33:37.359
District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Amarillo, asking the court for a consent judgment, declaring the Texas primary election law violates the Republican Party's First Amendment associational rights.
01:33:37.439 --> 01:33:39.279
In other words, we're we are a party.
01:33:40.079 --> 01:33:43.520
And as such, we have the right to determine who can participate in our elections.
01:33:44.479 --> 01:33:49.520
And therefore, it's wrong that when we say we want it done this way, that the state doesn't let us.
01:33:49.600 --> 01:33:50.880
And so they sued over it.
01:33:51.760 --> 01:33:52.880
And so U.S.
01:33:52.960 --> 01:33:57.439
District Judge Matthew Kasmarek acknowledged that this is a difficult question of constitutional law.
01:33:57.520 --> 01:34:01.279
He wrote that the answer to this constitutional question is not simply a matter of applying precedent.
01:34:01.520 --> 01:34:02.720
The most relevant U.S.
01:34:02.800 --> 01:34:16.640
Supreme Court case to consider is the California Democratic primary versus Jones from back twenty-six years ago, in which the court held that California's blanket primaries severely burdened political parties' associational rights by forcing them to affiliate with non-members in the candidate selection process.
01:34:16.880 --> 01:34:27.439
However, in the same case, the court actually said that open primaries may be constitutionally distinct from blanket primaries and expressly left open the question of whether mandatory open primaries are constitutional or not.
01:34:27.920 --> 01:34:33.760
And so over the weekend, Judge Kazmarek decided to stay the case, which means not make a ruling on it.
01:34:34.000 --> 01:34:39.359
Not say I'm ruling in favor, there's no injunction, I'm not ruling in favor of the state or in the favor of the party.
01:34:39.520 --> 01:34:59.680
I'm gonna stay the case until after the culmination of the 2027 legislative session, in which the Texas legislature is expected to amend its primary election law, meaning it wouldn't matter what the question is of whether or not the party has the right, you won't need it if the law changes or if the if the legislation decides that this is a worthy fight.
01:35:00.880 --> 01:35:06.640
Casimaric concluded, quote, legislative developments may resolve this case without the need for judicial intervention.
01:35:06.800 --> 01:35:12.479
For the reasons below, this case has stayed pending the 2027 regular session of the Texas legislature.
01:35:12.640 --> 01:35:23.039
Kazamarik reasoned that rather than ruling on that difficult question, it would be best to wait until the legislature has an opportunity to change the law, because if they do change the law, then his ruling would be irrelevant anyway.
01:35:23.680 --> 01:35:29.199
He wrote the Texas legislature should have an opportunity to choose how it will structure taxes primaries going forward.
01:35:29.359 --> 01:35:31.600
The court can address the constitutional question if necessary.
01:35:31.760 --> 01:35:40.319
Thus, this court chooses to exercise a wise discretion and restrain its authority because of scrupulous regard for the rightful independence of the state governments, which makes sense.
01:35:40.640 --> 01:35:43.680
And let me be clear on this, because there's two competing ideologies here.
01:35:43.920 --> 01:35:48.800
Part of me says I hate it, part of me says I love it, and I want to be honest with you guys, here's why.
01:35:49.279 --> 01:35:54.000
I hate it, because as a party, we've given the state ample chances.
01:35:54.319 --> 01:35:56.159
How many legislative sessions have we been asking for this?
01:35:56.239 --> 01:35:58.960
There have been plenty of people asking for years to do this.
01:35:59.119 --> 01:36:05.279
And I know the party has just recently decided they're gonna take the full fight to the court system, but that was like the straw that broke the camel's back.
01:36:05.520 --> 01:36:08.399
We've been asking for it for much longer than we actually sued over it.
01:36:08.880 --> 01:36:12.960
And so giving them another chance just feels like a waste of time.
01:36:13.840 --> 01:36:18.399
And on top of that, be aware, even if they changed the law, this would have been a great precedent.
01:36:18.640 --> 01:36:20.640
Because every state, you should have the right to do this.
01:36:20.880 --> 01:36:23.119
If a party wants to do this, they should have the right to.
01:36:23.199 --> 01:36:26.079
And this case would have set the precedent for them to do that.
01:36:26.479 --> 01:36:27.760
But here's why I love it.
01:36:28.479 --> 01:36:30.960
And that's because I'm a big states' rights guy.
01:36:31.359 --> 01:36:37.199
I'm a big fan that the way that we have applied the Constitution to the states has been absolutely awful.
01:36:37.520 --> 01:36:39.199
And I want to repeal a lot of it.
01:36:39.439 --> 01:36:42.319
When we talk about the First Amendment, this is one of the clearest examples of it.
01:36:42.960 --> 01:36:46.319
The First Amendment was never intended to apply to the states.
01:36:46.479 --> 01:36:47.199
It was not.
01:36:47.439 --> 01:36:49.119
It was written for the federal government.
01:36:49.359 --> 01:36:54.880
It was a it was a it was a blanket on Congress, the the federal branch.
01:36:55.439 --> 01:37:04.000
And the problem is that when you apply that to the states, there are things the states can no longer do that the founders thought they would be able to do, that they expected them to do, that they they they fought for them to do.
01:37:04.239 --> 01:37:10.319
Things like blasphemy laws, you know, standards, having a specific belief system required for office.
01:37:10.560 --> 01:37:11.600
States had those things.
01:37:11.760 --> 01:37:20.880
They had standards for all those things, and the First Amendment was not a fight for them because the First Amendment was supposed to curtail federal tyranny, not statewide beliefs.
01:37:21.520 --> 01:37:24.640
And so for that reason, I think a state should have the right to do this.
01:37:25.039 --> 01:37:32.640
And so I agree that a federal judge should be very cautious about how he jumps in and tells the state what they're required to do.
01:37:32.800 --> 01:37:39.119
Because it's not that a local judge is voting on this, it's not that a state judge is doing it, this is a federal judge, because it's sued in federal court.
01:37:39.439 --> 01:37:45.840
And it's very dangerous to set a precedent that a federal judge is allowed to have even more authority over the way that a state operates.
01:37:46.000 --> 01:37:47.760
Because what if it was the opposite?
01:37:48.239 --> 01:37:54.720
What what what what if the the left has control of the state or or has control of the party and they want to do something completely perverted?
01:37:54.960 --> 01:37:58.319
Well, the state should be able to stand up to that tyranny and say, no, you're not doing this in our state.
01:37:58.560 --> 01:38:03.199
And if a federal judge says, no, no, no, no, no, no, the state doesn't have that right anymore, it's dangerous.
01:38:03.439 --> 01:38:04.720
And we want states to have those rights.
01:38:04.800 --> 01:38:07.680
And it's it's one of the worst things that we've done that we've revoked those states' rights.
01:38:07.840 --> 01:38:09.039
And so for that reason I love it.
01:38:09.119 --> 01:38:15.680
It's it's, you know, we'll the biggest question I think on everyone's mind is what are they gonna do in the 2027 session?
01:38:15.840 --> 01:38:16.880
That's that's the big question.
01:38:16.960 --> 01:38:19.520
That's coming up before we know it, it's only a few months away.
01:38:19.840 --> 01:38:22.159
That's very dependent on where this case goes.
01:38:22.319 --> 01:38:31.039
And hopefully, Lord willing, we'll actually get some politicians who have a backbone and a spine to come in and to do the right thing and to pass this legislatively.
01:38:31.279 --> 01:38:43.680
Now, with that being said, to wrap up the show, when we return, we're gonna go over Willis High School that have now installed that are now going to install metal detectors after they found a second gun on campus this school year.
01:38:43.760 --> 01:38:46.319
And of course, parents are demanding action because this is insane.
01:38:46.479 --> 01:38:48.159
We'll talk about it when we get back from the break.
01:38:48.239 --> 01:38:51.600
If you would like to text into the show, this is your last chance during the show today.
01:38:51.760 --> 01:38:55.920

01:40:14.479 --> 01:40:18.880
The Medicare Minute with Justin White is brought to you by Senior Health Services.
01:40:19.119 --> 01:40:26.479
Every year, usually in the month of September, those of you that are on Medicare are going to get a document called the Annual Notice of Change.
01:40:26.640 --> 01:40:36.880
And this document basically describes how your Medicare plan, whether it be a Medicare Advantage plan or your drug plan, is going to change for the coming year.
01:40:37.119 --> 01:40:42.720
And if it's just changing benefits, it'll show what your benefits look like this year versus what they're going to look like next year.
01:40:42.880 --> 01:40:45.600
So you can decide whether or not you want to stay in that plan.
01:40:45.760 --> 01:40:49.680
Sometimes they'll send you a notice that says your plan's going away entirely.
01:40:49.840 --> 01:40:54.319
So you do want to see that document to make sure that you pay attention to it.
01:40:54.479 --> 01:41:02.640
Now, the problem is that oftentimes that document looks like junk mail, and we get so much of that stuff nowadays, we just want to throw it away.
01:41:02.800 --> 01:41:23.680
01:41:24.000 --> 01:41:27.439

If you're a conservative but you say you're Christian first, I got a show for you.
01:42:50.640 --> 01:42:57.359
It's Eric Jurks and join me tonight at nine on Patriot 920 and online at patriotalk920.com.
01:43:37.920 --> 01:43:40.880
Uh which I think is a fair and reasonable response.
01:43:41.119 --> 01:43:43.600
We got a text in also, by the way, it says, Good morning.
01:43:43.680 --> 01:43:49.199
When I read about an officer involved shootings of unarmed civilians, I consider whether it could have been prevented if the officer carried a single action revolver.
01:43:49.359 --> 01:43:53.600
The officer would have to really know the weapon, but it would involve an extra action in time of stress.
01:43:53.840 --> 01:43:55.680
Officers would have to be brave.
01:43:55.920 --> 01:43:58.239
Yeah, a lot of this again is standards and training.
01:43:58.399 --> 01:43:59.279
And it goes back to this.
01:43:59.359 --> 01:44:03.520
You know, when the left started saying we need better training for officers, I saw someone on the right say, No, no, no, just back the blue.
01:44:03.680 --> 01:44:05.359
And I go, What are you talking about?
01:44:05.600 --> 01:44:08.319
What do you mean we don't want extra training and extra standards?
01:44:08.479 --> 01:44:09.680
That's a good thing.
01:44:10.159 --> 01:44:11.279
You are backing the blue.
01:44:11.439 --> 01:44:16.159
In fact, it actually makes the officers safer as well if they're well trained to handle stressful situations.
01:44:16.319 --> 01:44:20.560
Stress is really bad for your ability to handle intense situations.
01:44:20.960 --> 01:44:23.920
And if you're trained to handle them calmly, right?
01:44:24.239 --> 01:44:27.359
Maybe using a different weapon, whatever that looks like, it's incredibly important.
01:44:27.439 --> 01:44:28.720
We should back that as conservatives.
01:44:28.800 --> 01:44:29.439
What are we talking about?
01:44:29.600 --> 01:44:30.640
Of course we want better training.
01:44:30.800 --> 01:44:32.159
Of course it's a good use of our money.
01:44:32.319 --> 01:44:36.720
Of course, we want the people who are tasked with defending us to be good at their job and to be able to handle these situations.
01:44:36.880 --> 01:44:37.680
Same with our schools.
01:44:37.760 --> 01:44:40.159
Of course, we want our kids safe and we want to demand that.
01:44:40.479 --> 01:44:47.439
If that looks like metal detectors, whatever, really there's a there's another cultural issue in tandem with this that's creating the problem of metal detectors.
01:44:47.600 --> 01:44:50.239
You didn't used to need them, and it wasn't just because there were less guns.
01:44:50.399 --> 01:44:52.319
It was because there were less crazy kids.
01:44:52.560 --> 01:44:55.600
And because kids were being raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord, that's changed.
01:44:55.760 --> 01:44:59.680
So we have a lot of problems all kind of working together to create a lot of the variety of issues that we have.
01:44:59.840 --> 01:45:02.239
But I want to thank everybody for texting in.
01:45:02.479 --> 01:45:03.680
I appreciate it a lot.
01:45:03.760 --> 01:45:06.479
Um, and I thank everybody for tuning in as well.
01:45:06.640 --> 01:45:08.000
That'll have to do it for the show today.
01:45:08.079 --> 01:45:10.159
We're coming up on our final break.
01:45:10.399 --> 01:45:12.319
It's not really a break, it's just going to the next show.
01:45:12.479 --> 01:45:14.399
So thanks everybody for being a part of the show today.
01:45:14.479 --> 01:45:15.119
I greatly appreciate it.
01:45:15.199 --> 01:45:16.560
Lord William will be back tomorrow.
01:45:16.640 --> 01:45:22.159
In the meantime, ladies and gentlemen, enjoy the rest of your Tuesday.
01:45:22.319 --> 01:45:26.560
I'll see you tomorrow on Wednesday, and God speed.
