Paramount + Warner Bros: What It Means for Gaming Ep. 164

We're gonna talk about all the little details and BS going on between that and what it means for gaming. I'm Dell. no, I'm Devin. That's Dell. But yeah, that's that's That's basically what's going on today. We got other stuff to talk about, but the biggest thing right now is Paramount and Water Brothers Discovery are expected to complete their merger on October sixth of this year, creating a brand new company. Well, not brand new. Two days? Yeah. Well, as we record, it's two days from now. They're creating Sky Dance. First thing I want to say is this. That's a little too close to Skynet. It is. It is very close to Sky. They you know what you're doing. They do. They should have just called it Skynet. They they're telling you without telling you. Like that's your thing. But we gotta dis discuss like what exactly is going on and how it's gonna affect the gaming industry moving forward. Cause Warner Brothers already has a major gaming division. Paramount has already started building its own gaming operation. And this is gonna be crazy. Yeah. Cause for people who don't know, Warner Brothers gaming division, they own Batman D C. Mm. They own Mortal Kombat. They own Hogwarts Legacy. They own Lego. Franchise. All Lego. They own the Lord of the Rings. They own Game of Thrones. They got Paramount games. They got the Star Trek, the Teenage Beat Ninja Turtles, the SpongeBob, Avatar. Don't even know those games aren't that great. They got the Mission Impossible. Which I didn't even realize was a real bang. I d yeah, I didn't, I didn't. And they got the Nickelodeon properties. Those are the those are the drones that Paramount got access to. Which is gonna be crazy for everybody because My question is this Do you think Sundance, Sundance, Sky Dance will eventually combine into one major gaming division, or is it better to have them keep it separately while sharing resources and IPs? I think the latter is probably best, but I don't know, because you know, you bring in you you start merging stuff or bringing together or piling up everything into one situation, you ain't gonna need everybody. That's when that's when, you know, the the unfortunate thinning of the herd situation comes in and, you know, you get you get developers or studios that, you know, have a roster of this many and then they have you know, dwindled down to a roster of that many. d all of the IPs and stuff like that that you just said are like all like major things. Everything. You know, from SpongeBob to Batman, all like all the stuff that you named, like, you know, that that these various entities have, like, they're all gigantic things. You know, Star Trek, the Lego and everything. Nickelodeon, like all that. Like, can I can I get my Can I get my open world Danny Phantom game? No? Okay, that's fine. But yeah, like I I think I think we just let continue to do what they do, share resources. That way maybe we can have better outings of certain games that, you know, have come out that were on the cusp of things. Listen, I'm always gonna play a n a teenage meet Ninja Turtles game. Always. Can you know can they Stand to be more like out of the shadows. Yes, I loved out of the shadows. Great game. I I want something that's kinda sort of similar to that and maybe, you know, a darker, more mature tone of like certain games can come from one developer to another one or something. I don't know. But yeah, I don't I don't I don't think we should just put Everything into like a gigantic ball or a gigantic pot and just melt it together. Not just yet. See, I I'm on the other end. Since they're not directly creating the games, I would say put it all bring them all together. Call it Sundance. I keep calling it Sundance. It's too close to Skynet and Sundance. Sky Dance, put it all under Sky Dance Game. And just hold the IPs. You can branch out, but like, have one developer and producer do one game and that that, but you just keep it yours. Like you own that IP. So you're just leasing your IP to other spots. You know, you don't you're not like they're not gonna directly make any games. They're just the company just like, you wanna make another Hogwarts legacy Hogwarts game, you gotta come talk to Sky Dance. Right. Yeah, all go ahead. Go do that. You know, you know, you're gonna have to give us that that that big cut of that money. I think when we when if they combine everything together and and build this massive IP collection, they're gonna they're gonna take over. They already taken over because, you know, first we're getting when they combined we're losing Paramount Plus. We're losing HBO. They don't tell they're not telling people, but those those Those apps you streaming on will be one app by 2027. It'll be one thing. It'd be one thing. All that's gonna and I'm cool with that because I'm sick of having all these apps. I prefer these companies to absorb each other so I can have less streaming apps. Could I I could think I got like seven or eight right now. It's a lot to keep up with. A lot to keep up with. And be honest with you, I'm only watching Paramount Plus for Star Trek. The only reason why I have that app. That's it. I have it for nothing else. I don't think I've watched any I'm a let me let me not lie to you. Let me click this button here. Let me go to streaming sites. I don't I don't I don't a hundred percent know why I still what I still watch under that right now. Yeah. Star Trek Next Generation season four episode twenty. Brave New World. Voyager. season three episode fifteen. I just started D Space Nine again, season two, episode nine. Upper Deck. I mean lower deck, another Star War Star Trek, season two, episode five. Discovery. Enterprise. Are you simultaneously watching a bunch of different series? Star Trek series. I'm I'm literally on my key watching. Picard season two episode one. That's that's that's what I use my Paramount Plus for, you know. Star Trek app. My Star Trek app, you know. My Starfleet Academy with I'm not gonna talk trash about it. But that's it. Now I'm scrolling, they got some good movies. You know? I never delved too deep into it. Like I just realized that they had well, I don't even want to talk about why I got Paramount Plus to begin with. We all remember that story. Mm-hmm. That series is now on Netflix. Yeah. Stinking up the joint. But but yeah, I mean, you know, you got you got some Nickelodeon stuff that's on there that's cool. Obviously we talked about you know, TMNT classic you can do on there, which is good. but you know, that's I never actually really watched a movie or something like that on Paramount Plus. Now I have. the new Golden Axe is on is it? Yeah, golden eggs. Hold on, put that on the list. I'm gonna watch the new golden axe. They got they got interesting stuff on here. You know, they got the they got the The Greatest Avenger ever. Jeremy Renner, Hansel and Gretel. That movie. They got the original Men in Black. I've never seen Jumanji, so I'm gonna just keep it pushing. Yeah, no. I've never I didn't even seen the old Joan. They got Rush Hour, Rush Hour t up to Rush Hour Four scary movies. They got the Resident Evil collection. Super bad. They got some good stuff on here. I'm not gonna lie. Like par like if you want some old time stuff, they got some good things on here. Okay. Like if you had to choose between like Paramount Plus and Peacock, go Paramount Plus. Yes. Yeah, okay. Yeah. Yeah. True. Because Peacock raised their prices and I immediately canceled it. There's nothing really to hold on to there. There wasn't. Like I'm I got Peacock. My I kept Peacock 'cause there was a show my daughter was watching on it. And then I got the email, we raising our prices like fifteen dollars or something stupid. Like, yo, yo, kick rocks Peacock. Is it Twisted Metal? I can see all Peacock shows on other sites for free. True. True. True. Though we got that down. My thing this, w if we if you had to pick, let's say Sundance, do they thing, Sky Dance and Do They Thing, and put everything under one roof, what IP do you think they should like focus on to kick off this merger? Now mind you, everything through Warner Brothers, Paramount Mm. Which one's like a like a flagship thing? Like which one's like, Hey, look, this is our anything. Anything from Warner Paramount, anything they've ever owned. I mean we're not gonna get gaming wise, we're not gonna get a new Batman game anytime soon. So but I feel like that would be great. Do we need a new Batman game? It's gonna it's it's gonna it's gonna chart no matter what. Now first off, let's do let's think this. You gotta think about ages. So if we're thinking about For the young kids. Mm-hmm. The your your your your your single like your toddler based kids, kids you wanna pull into gaming. You gotta throw out a good Paw Patrol game. True. You gotta put out a Paw Patrol. And I'm not talking about some old I'm talking about a Paw Patrol where you pick your dog, you run a missions. Or you're the boy Jake and you commanding the dogs to do things. Yeah, yeah. He's like Oracle. Almost like some XCOM type stuff. Correct. Okay. Like in my mind, if you think if you trying to pull those little little kids in, you gotta go Paw Patrol, 'cause I think Paw Patrol's still hot. Cause I just saw a new movie they put out. They st they still got they still still cranking out the hits, huh? Is these cats still let us Paw Patrol? And throw out a little Doherty Explorer mobile app, hook it with Du Duolingo. Mm? Mm-hmm. Cause don't she already be trying to teach kids Spanish? Yeah. Why you ain't got a mobile app or a iPad app with Duolingo and Dora sitting there teaching you That would be clever. Right? That wouldn't be bad. Think I think we I per think we need to go to Cause Paramount, they own CBS, Nick Nick G and MTV, VH1, Country Music, Comedy Central, Showtime, BET, TV Land. Then we got Warners, you got CNN, HBO, TBS, TNT, True TV, Discovery Channel, HD TV. Like I if if I was on a gaming genre, I would straight get house flippers the game. Okay. You know people like those types of power simulators and stuff like that. Yeah, there's some type d I know there's some type of house flipper game, but I don't know how in tune it is like how I don't know. I don't know how great it is. Yeah, I've I've never tried it. I've seen it. Discovery channel, you can have a whole open-world adventure game where you're just exploring the earth and depths of things, like a no man's sky type hookup, but just on planet Earth. Yeah. Where you're just looking at the planet and then discovering new animals. Like you're actually learning on these jumps. Like some of this stuff you could pull is like educational. Now they're not all gonna be hit. No. But d you know, if you've you If you set that tone like, hey, look, you know, we're we're doing we're leaning into some interactive, you know, educational, we have our own little situation there with that for, you know, for the kitties, then you can come over and, you know, play or do or watch, you know, something that's more your speed. Now my I think this. We need to get like personally, I need a Star Trek game made by Bethesda. That's what I need. I've s I've played every Star Trek game out there. I'm not happy with every Star Trek game out there. But if you can if you can give me If Bethesna can sit back after Elder Scroll six and give me Ayy Star Trek game. I'ma be okay. I'm gonna be all right. Yeah. Or how about this? No Bethesda. Bethesda is good with the open world. Right. But we're talking about space here. Hello games. The people who made No Man's Sky. Okay. You already got the platform. Right. Right. Did they you already got the huge universe or you got the code for the huge universe? All you now gotta do It's put a Star Trek logo over it. Cause I've already built the Star Trek. I've already built like four enterprises on No Man's Sky. So why wouldn't I? Well why yes, exactly. Why wouldn't you? So we already got the So you didn't think that you didn't. Yeah. We already got the foundation. So that's what I think they need to focus on. Giving me, giving these well, after the last debacle. Star Trek series, it's kinda hard to get on track with Star Trek. It's hard to be like I'm okay with the franchise and the direction that it's going. I mean there's the the I guess the the good thing about Star Trek is you can always it could just always just be a different story to tell. Let me be honest with you. As a fan, they've never changed the story. Okay. See, I mean not I don't I I don't know. Me being I'm not the I'm not the Star Trek guy, so I don't know. I I hate to say it, but if you've watched like yeah, there there are little changes, but it's still the same story. Casting changes, yes. And loc casting location and stuff like that. But it's All the same. It's been the same story since like the 70s, you know. It has not changed. Okay, fair enough. Because if you watch if you watch the OG Star Trek and then go into generations, you're like, this is just a modern day version of the original. Then you get into like Deep Space Nine, it's the same thing. Yes, they're lost. But they're always lost. They're in space. Yeah, you're gonna be They're explorers. Yeah. Then you get into Deep Space Nine, that's when it gets a little crazy because you're on a huge space station. But th it's still the same show. Still the same show. Is the space station itself lost? No, just sit there over a planet. It's this huge space deep space nine is just them. You got Kardashians, Bajorans fighting civil war. Kardashians? We was first. We were first. That's what the race of people called. They called the Kardashians. We was first. We was around before these degeners I didn't know. You know? Espionage, lies, deceit. So the Kardashians. Y to be honest, yes. Yeah. 100%. They be lying the ad the Kardashians be lying their asses off. And like straight trying to just take over everything. Like if you watch D Space Nine, there's this one dude favorite character, his name Garrett. You don't know if this man is ever telling the truth or lying. That's that's just him. That's just him. He'll tell you, he'll look you straight in the face, give you this huge story, and you be like, yo, did this is he lying? There might be some truth. Nah, he's a liar. But he he's so he lies so much that the truth sounds like a lie, and a lie sounds like a truth. And you just be baffled. And you'd be like, yo That's why I like Garrick. Garrick's my favorite character of Deep Space Nine. Cause I just don't know. I d I can't you can't trust him. And he had Kardashian. Surprise, surprise. Yeah. But there's so much. Like I don't I don't I don't know. Like I think that Gaming becomes more important because Skydance sees games as another major way to make money from its franchises. I believe that. I believe that it's gonna be, hey, yeah, we got a movie, movie hit. We got it let's make a T V show. shoot, T V show's a hit. Let's make a game. Yeah. And I think that's how they're gonna do it. Because why do we have an Avatar game? Did we need that? I don't think we did. I didn't I don't think we did. And I remember my daughter made me watch all of Every single one. Even the the last one, the fire jaw. yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And they're coming out with another one. It's a it's still making money. It's a cash cow. They're just gonna dumb they're just gonna keep pumping them out. Ferngully ass movie. That's what it is. First movie's Ferngully. If you ain't never seen Ferngully, watch Ferngully and then watch the first Avatar. And I get back to us. Shot for shot remake. They stole that. this is revolutionary. It's it's it's an American who sells out his people to clap some blue cheeks. Crazy. Crazy. And I'm not saying you shouldn't have tried to clap some blue cheeks. I'm not saying that. We were just talking about Star Trek and we know they like Captain K all of them like doing it. Riker, Captain Kirk. That was From what I know, I don't know much about Star Trek, but I do know that. Yeah. You know? You should do that. You go to a planet, you see some some tall blue things, you're like, you know what? Let's try. You know what? Let's try. And I I'm I'm saying like I would too. Like it's this is not nothing outside of reality there. But to give up your own people for that, nah. That some a lot of people do it. That's like you ruining your your You married with kids and you throwing all that away for the side jungle. Yeah. Well, it happens. Happens a lot. Happens a lot. Crazy. Happens a lot. You should just you should have just went in, did what you had to do. They're not even blue. It ain't it ain't even nothing o outer worldly, you know? Right? And then you find out you got the blue chicks. Then you got the water chicks that's kind of green. And then you got the fire chicks. You could have ran through the whole stable and your people would have still been chill. Can't do that. Nah. You all the humans now. What about the people on Earth who wanted the the clap blue cheeks? Now they can't because you burnt that bridge. Because there was that the doctor lady who was trying to teach English and communicating and stuff. She was trying to build bridges for the dudes back at home. Like, yo, I'm setting up the foundation. I got these bottom drones ready for y'all. They already know English. You come over here, you party, you have a good time, you get some drinks and you and then you go home. Pan what is it called? Pangea? Pandora? Yeah, yes. Whatever that planet was called. Whatever, whatever, yeah, whatever. Was literally I'm taking it back to Star Trek. Star Trek has a planet called Ryza. It is a pleasure planet. All your wildest dreams come true on Ryza. Everything you want happens on Ryza. So this women. Men drinking. There's no Nothing. They don't care what you into. They just trying to get into it with you. That could have been Pangea or Pandora, whatever that blue plane is called. But once again, Scully messed it up for everybody. That's horrible. Man to hell with that franchise. I'm I'm more angry at him because he messed it up. Yeah, then the whole franchise. You did this. He did this. He set all this in motion. And then he almost lost his family and he putting him in danger and then he gotta go chill with water people, then fire people trying to eat him and Y'all understand the level of frustration I have towards this goddamn movie. We're starting to understand a little bit. Made me so angry. Did we talk about how this gonna Okay. To sum all this pretty much up. Yeah, wrap this one up. PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo have nothing to worry about. Nothing. Unless Sky Dance is like, you know what? We're gonna do a platform partnership. Hmm. And you know who they're gonna go to. You're gonna go to Nintendo. All the the Nickelodeon franchises alone. Yep. That that that is it's too many too many impressionable kids at stake here. Exactly. If Sky Dance is like, you know what, we gonna make these games, but we gonna give all our Nickelodeon properties to Nintendo and then pull all our Lego products to Nintendo. Ooh. You've now created, you've put Nintendo on a platform. That's a monster. It's over for gaming. That would be re that that's a monster. And you lay like you skydance, go to Nintendo go to Nintendo like your Nintendo. Here's our Nickelodeon stuff. Have fun. Have fun. Do whatever. It's over. Yeah, yeah, no. It's yeah, that's it. That's it. It's over. That's it. From little kid games to rated info mature. Yep, that's it. We're done. Xbox, PlayStation, y'all might as well just merge to become a company at that point. At this point you would need to team up to try to see if you could take down the monster that isn't. You you give Nintendo like hey Nintendo, here's free access to make any Teenage Meeting Nigger Turtle games y'all want. You know they're gonna put out five in like a year. Yeah. For every demographic, every age. All turtles. You do whatever with turtles. You can make in any, you know, any any reality that you want. You can have platform young. You can have old. It could be f fun, it could be party, it could be mature. You can do whatever you want with them. Nintendo would destroy gaming at that point. Like the Nintendo already got let me see. Let me see. They already got a good amount of some decent games. We they got Diego. They got Rastes and Mutants, Teens Meaning of the Turtles. They got Garfield. They got SpongeBob. They gotta yo, there's just a list Wait, this list is long. Yo, they got double deer. 'cause of Nickelodeon? Yeah, like if Nintendo like they got a hundred and seventy seven games already. Nickelodeon games on Nintendo. A hundred and seventy seven games. Nice. And yo, Renin's Stimpy? Rugrat, they they could pull out yeah, they could dust off all those like crazy weird like old games that really didn't make any sense and just make new ones. You ain't even gotta make new ones. Just add them to the online genre. yeah, because you can put your classic games. Play your classic genres. You ain't gotta make nothing new. Why do they have how many SpongeBob games do they got? Damn. And they all probably sold. yeah. They probably these little kids like mom, I need new Spongebob. They got Zoe one one I don't know what Zoe is. You know what that is? I've heard it. I didn't know it could be a game. Like what would you do? It's game. To do what? Action adventure? Okay. Zoe most epic school moments. I've never see, I think this is before like I think I was too old to realize, yes. And I wouldn't in I wasn't in a Nickelodeon like that. Yeah. My Nickelodeon stopped with like Are You Afraid of the Dark? All that. Slutia shorts. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Our Real Monsters, I think. Our Real Monsters. Yeah. Cause I don't remember none of these. I didn't realize Nickelodeon had like live action stuff. Until like my daughter started watching. Like she was watching this genre, Ariana Grande. Yes, I do know she was on there, but I don't know what the show was. hold on. Now it's more I think it's more of those live action shows than it is animation now anyway. Yeah, kids like the Where she portrayed Kate Valentine in the hit Is this it? No, that's not it. She played Sam and Cat. That's what my daughter was watching. Sam and Cat. Yo. I'm be honest, that little girl was funny, yo. Yeah. The Ariana Grande chick was it was cr was funny. Like I was there was some laughs in that joint. Like, all right, like alright, I get this. Okay. Then I I'd be honest, I didn't know that was Ariana Grande. Like I had no clue that that's who she was in that show. I I just wasn't Wasn't aware. I wasn't aware. 'Cause she had like dark hair. She's a little bit more full of fees and I just didn't pick it out. Okay. Until my daughter was like, That's Ariana Grande. I was like, who's that? So run that by me again? I know who it was at first. I had to Google who she was. 'Cause I kept seeing her face on like s singing shows and like like she had comedic chops. Right. So I thought she was like a stand up comedian, actress, or something like that. I didn't even know she sung music. Okay. I was just out of it. Like, who? You. and I heard it and I'm like, I'm not listening to this. Mm. We already talked about if did you say if if Sky Dance was gonna make a game, what game you think they should prioritize first? I think I just screwed it over there. Yeah. well I was leaning towards I I would say Batman 'cause it's the s it's the safe option. It's the safe option is also the option that's you're gonna you're gonna hit on every it's print almost kinda sort of like Like with a Lego or something like that or anything like that or you know, it's you can you can make any type of Batman game you want. But okay, here's my I guess my issue is this. I just I finished Arkham Knight, Arkham Asylum, the all three of the Arkham type drones. Yes. I finished recently. Okay. I don't wanna play that shit no more. the last one, Arkham Knight, I was I wasn't I wasn't a big fan of it. What is it? Is it Arkham Knight? let me double check. It's Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and then Arkham Knight. Yeah. I enjoyed Arkham I enjoyed Asylum and City. A night was okay. I just didn't I didn't like the fact that I was forced into doing a whole bunch of the Batmobile stuff. That irked me, yo. Yeah, I didn't like that. That's first I don't like driving. R yes. Yes. Mm mm. The band the Batmobile was not not the easiest thing. It handled worse than a warthog. I swear to God it handles worse than a Halo Warthog. True. This is true. This is true. Why did you do that to that jo? This is yeah, I don't know. That was that that took me out of it. Like that I didn't wanna have to do that all the time. They wanted you to go fast. And you can't go fast and gossip. All the render missions and you gotta grapple up with the bat can't I just grapple I'm Batman. Why do I have the car go up there? Why do I have to yeah, why does the car have to go up there? And where's my Batwing? I couldn't f I couldn't call the Batwing and fly up there. Right. I got a scale of building on my bat in in the Batmobile. my God. Yeah, no. It's ridiculous. Yeah, I I didn't it was ridiculous. And I I just I think that's why I'm over it because I literally just played all three on it. Cause I had I ch I downloaded them on the ROG. Mm-hmm. And I like, let me just run through this catalog. Nah. I had a good time. Right. Yeah, don't get you wrong. Done with Batman. Okay. Done. There's nothing you can show me about Batman that I haven't already done. Be out there killing people. Batman don't kill. A punctured lung can end a life. It's called a pneumothorax. Like what are we doing? You breaking femurs? Listen, he d he Listen, d the the guy is no longer here, but Batman had already left maybe like forty-five minutes ago. The guy was the guy was rising in pain and fading from consciousness when Batman was there. However, we can't confirm or deny what happened after Batman left. He never calls an ambulance. There's a there's a law in Pennsylvania called the duty to act law. Like you're not doing he never called the police to the ambulance. I was at one scene where he was trying to get information and he was told to do, you don't say nothing, I'm gonna break your arm. Then broke his arm anyway. He did. He gave the information you broke my arm anyway. So there's nothing in cl for me to say to you. You're gonna hurt me regardless. You're gonna hurt me. Yeah, you're gonna hurt. Just do it. Like you ain't need to do all this. First off, you caught me. Yeah. Let's have a conversation. I complied, Batman. Like, right? Let's have a conversation. I complied. I I gave you I gave you the information that you wanted. No, he dogging people. Batman like two hundred and fifty pounds of solid muscle. And then you add another fifty pounds of the suit on him and he jumped from a rooftop on top of you, spinal compression, spinal stenosis. You just paralyze this individual. So now you're adding more debt to the to Gotham because you somebody's gotta pay for his care. That's true. That comes out of the tax day taxpayers' dollars. You put him in a you put him in a hospital for six months, then five years of rehab, then post rehab, and then he gotta eat through a tube for the rest of his life. He got home health aids and and and all this other stuff. Like you caused a bill for a regular dude. And and you ruined this guy's life. Completely not just his his whole family. His whole family, yeah. All right, so all right, you ruined this guy's life. All right, he he might have been a criminal. Okay, whatever. That's fine. Cool. Karma. Karma's a B. But his kids ain't asked for this. They d and now they gotta go to a life of crime. Right. That may be keeping that cycle going so he has something to do. Yep. He creates every villain out there so he has something to do. I got so much money. I'm so rich. I'm bored. Trump hand. So rich. That I gotta create villains just to justify my actions. Yep. Yep. Just to justify my actions. You g you just out here whipping generations of a family's ass. You just Tons. Tons. But you but you you hurting these people, but you letting all the super villains go free. He is he like I said before, he let everybody out. Cause he could have been upgraded Arkham Asylum and All the places so these cats can't get out. Yeah. P like poison ivy literally just walks out. Walks and can she put some goddamn clothes on? I don't need to see all that. Yeah. I need to see all that. I'm not saying it's bad, you know, your body your choice. Yeah, but I need a more classier looking poison ivy. Yeah, leaves leaves can only do so much. Something to the imagination, please. What are we doing here, Poison Ivy? Cut that out.
