00:00:05.360 --> 00:00:07.360
Welcome back to the Lars Larson Show.
00:00:07.440 --> 00:00:10.560
It's a pleasure to be with you, and I want to talk about mail in voting.
00:00:10.640 --> 00:00:13.359
Uh the ballots went in the mail yesterday for Oregon.
00:00:13.519 --> 00:00:14.800
I'm not an Oregon voter.
00:00:14.880 --> 00:00:16.879
I was for decades, but I'm not these days.
00:00:17.039 --> 00:00:18.399
I vote in Washington State.
00:00:18.559 --> 00:00:27.199
But I saw this piece by Barbara Klein, who's the first vice president of the League of Women Voters, Oregon, and the action chair for the League in the Rogue Valley.
00:00:27.359 --> 00:00:27.440
Ms.
00:00:27.600 --> 00:00:33.119
Klein, I might consider you one of my ultimate naysayers, and I appreciate you coming on the program.
00:00:33.280 --> 00:00:33.759
Thank you.
00:00:35.520 --> 00:00:36.640
Well, you're welcome.
00:00:36.799 --> 00:00:38.079
Thank you for having me.
00:00:38.479 --> 00:00:44.799
You think that Oregon's vote by mail system is solid and secure and should not be questioned.
00:00:44.960 --> 00:00:45.679
Am I right?
00:00:45.920 --> 00:00:46.560
Am I right?
00:00:47.200 --> 00:00:49.920
Well, I wouldn't say anything shouldn't be questioned.
00:00:50.079 --> 00:00:52.079
We should always question what we have.
00:00:52.320 --> 00:00:58.240
But our concerns are are um more intricate than that.
00:00:58.399 --> 00:01:02.399
You know, polarization thrives on misinformation.
00:01:02.719 --> 00:01:08.719
And when we hear something outrageous or annoying and it makes us angry, we want to share it.
00:01:08.799 --> 00:01:15.359
But sometimes it isn't based on facts, you know, connecting dots that don't actually connect dots.
00:01:15.439 --> 00:01:24.159
And we're worried that some of the complaints about mail-in voting are sowing seeds of mistrust in our elections.
00:01:24.319 --> 00:01:30.239
So, you know, if you don't like the results, then you can just yell it was fraudulent no matter what the results were.
00:01:30.480 --> 00:01:38.079
And, you know, we have a constitutional democratic republic, and as voters, we need to participate in that.
00:01:38.319 --> 00:01:46.879
Consent of the govern is how the government should work, and only elections can ensure that, and we need to have trust in them.
00:01:47.280 --> 00:01:47.599
Okay.
00:01:47.840 --> 00:01:49.519
Let me ask you a couple of things.
00:01:49.760 --> 00:02:08.000
Um the Tobias Reed, the Secretary of State of Oregon, has just agreed, because Judicial Watch put the squeeze on him with a lawsuit, to remove eight hundred thousand ineligible voters from Oregon's voter rolls that only contained about three point two million uh registered voters.
00:02:08.240 --> 00:02:16.879
Is that not an indication that there was a problem if they had to remove a quarter of all the registered voters from the system because they were ineligible?
00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:23.039
Well, I shouldn't speak to that because I actually don't know about it.
00:02:23.360 --> 00:02:32.240
But um I would say that they regularly update the voter registration lists, and they have four ways of doing that.
00:02:32.319 --> 00:02:38.240
And I can't say for sure what you're talking about, um, although I'll I'll give you an opinion.
00:02:38.400 --> 00:02:49.599
But the four ways that you know they do it, they have Eric, which is the electronic, you know, registration information center, which is shares between states so that you can't vote in two states.
00:02:50.159 --> 00:02:54.319
Run by a private organization funded by liberal political groups, right, Ms.
00:02:54.479 --> 00:02:55.039
Klein?
00:02:56.800 --> 00:02:57.919
You might say so.
00:02:58.080 --> 00:03:00.400
But anyway, the national am I wrong?
00:03:00.639 --> 00:03:04.719
Is it is it funded by liberals or is it funded by conservatives?
00:03:05.280 --> 00:03:08.400
Many, many states have have joined in that.
00:03:08.479 --> 00:03:16.080
And I know some states have have come away from it, but I still think it's an excellent um source.
00:03:16.240 --> 00:03:19.759
And they also use the change of address system with the U.S.
00:03:19.919 --> 00:03:21.439
Postal Service.
00:03:21.599 --> 00:03:28.719
Um they do Oregon Health Authority, if something comes in there, the DMV and the election divisions.
00:03:28.879 --> 00:03:43.360
But you know, one thing I wanted to mention is that sometimes in um in our elections lists, we include both the active and inactive voters.
00:03:43.520 --> 00:03:48.240
It doesn't mean the inactive voters can um vote.
00:03:48.400 --> 00:03:49.360
They they can't.
00:03:55.439 --> 00:04:00.479
Oregon agreed to remove 800,000 ineligible voters.
00:04:00.639 --> 00:04:03.919
And that's not inactive, ineligible.
00:04:04.080 --> 00:04:06.479
And they've removed them, 800,000 of them.
00:04:06.639 --> 00:04:08.479
And I'm not the only one who has reported that.
00:04:08.639 --> 00:04:15.840
The fish rapper has reported it, Judicial Watch has reported it, even Tobias Reed's office has been on this show and talked about it.
00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:17.439
Let me ask you about something else.
00:04:17.680 --> 00:04:25.439
So it's only been two years since they found a couple of thousand foreign nationals registered to vote in Oregon's system.
00:04:25.680 --> 00:04:33.519
And then the Secretary of State said, but we're not going to bother to check the other registered voters to find other foreign nationals.
00:04:33.680 --> 00:04:35.920
We'll catch those as we go along.
00:04:36.240 --> 00:04:44.079
Is that is that a legitimate way to keep the system operating clean when you found a couple of thousand foreign nationals registered to vote?
00:04:44.480 --> 00:04:44.639
No.
00:04:45.199 --> 00:04:48.959
No, and I don't think that that's really the way they handle it.
00:04:49.120 --> 00:04:55.360
But you know, my very first vote ever, I pulled a lever behind a screen.
00:04:55.600 --> 00:04:58.000
Now that could be a bit scary.
00:04:58.240 --> 00:05:02.399
Where were those levers recording and um who was seeing it?
00:05:02.959 --> 00:05:04.800
Which has never been the system in Oregon, right?
00:05:04.959 --> 00:05:08.959
So we're talking about a different part of the I've lived in.
00:05:10.959 --> 00:05:25.600
Well, let me if you have hundred if you have thousands of foreign nationals registered to vote, and then you say, but we're not going to check the rest of the registered voters to find other foreign nationals, does that suggest there's a problem with the system that you say is safe and secure?
00:05:27.519 --> 00:05:32.000
I don't know about um what you're speaking about now.
00:05:32.399 --> 00:05:36.879
You don't know about them finding a couple of thousand registered voters who are foreign nationals.
00:05:37.040 --> 00:05:41.600
Not all were illegals, some were illegals, some were just foreign nationals and not citizens.
00:05:42.079 --> 00:05:48.000
I know about the I know about the ones the DMV had, and it was a mistake, and they took them off.
00:05:48.160 --> 00:05:56.319
I don't know about what you just said about the 800,000 ballots, and and that's what I'm concerned about.
00:05:56.480 --> 00:05:58.319
Um and I don't want to speak to the Aaron.
00:06:04.800 --> 00:06:11.839
If you're not even aware that the state of Oregon is in the middle of removing 800,000 registered voters that were ineligible?
00:06:12.399 --> 00:06:15.839
No, no, because I know how they handle things.
00:06:16.000 --> 00:06:24.639
And the other thing is that a lot of people haven't gone to the their own elections office.
00:06:24.879 --> 00:06:31.920
They don't know how it works, they don't see how things are verified, they don't see how signatures are verified.
00:06:32.240 --> 00:06:46.399
Um again, I just don't want to speak to the things I don't know about when I do know about the security of the system for our ballots when they come in and um and what they do on the website.
00:06:46.560 --> 00:06:49.279
When one of those let me ask you one one other question, Ms.
00:06:49.360 --> 00:06:49.680
Klein.
00:06:49.839 --> 00:06:51.920
This is Barbara Klein from the League of Women Voters.
00:06:52.160 --> 00:06:59.199
When a ballot is sent out and it goes to someone, does is there any way of knowing who actually votes that ballot and sends it back?
00:07:01.839 --> 00:07:13.920
Yes, because the signature, first of all, they all have a unique barcode that goes out so they know who that um who that ballot went to.
00:07:14.319 --> 00:07:27.279
And um and if by chance this is kind of off the subject, but if by chance that person were to re-register, um like me, I don't happen to be registered with a major party.
00:07:27.519 --> 00:07:40.160
And if I were to decide I wanted to vote in the primary and I were to re-register, I might, if I re-registered kind of late in the system, I might receive two ballots, okay?
00:07:40.639 --> 00:07:42.160
And happens a lot.
00:07:42.480 --> 00:07:44.399
I Right, it does happen a lot.
00:07:44.879 --> 00:07:46.480
Does that sound like a good system?
00:07:48.079 --> 00:07:51.600
Yes, actually, it's an excellent system because Well, Ms.
00:07:51.680 --> 00:07:54.000
Klein, I'm gonna have to bring you back on another time.
00:07:54.079 --> 00:07:59.519
We'll continue this conversation, but that's Barbara Klein, the first vice president of the League of Women Voters.
00:07:59.600 --> 00:08:01.279
She said, Nothing to worry about.
00:08:01.439 --> 00:08:04.319
This system is safe, secure, and solid.
00:08:04.639 --> 00:08:06.879
You're listening to the Lars Larson show.
