ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Senator Serena Kersten on Opening Up Jersey’s Facilities
A couple of months into the job, Senator Serena Kersten sits down with Rod [surname] to set out her priorities as Assistant Minister for Economic Development, with responsibility for sport, arts, culture and heritage.
The former England netball captain explains why she wants every islander to live within 15 minutes of somewhere to be active, and every child to get an hour of physical activity a day at school. She talks frankly about getting more community use out of school sports facilities, why banning sports drinks from a sports hall makes no sense, and where she would invest first, from Les Quennevais to FB Fields.
She also responds to the recent debate over travel funding for Island Games athletes, reflects on what Filip Nowacki’s Commonwealth Games success has done for Jersey, and explains how she plans to make the case for sport to the Council of Ministers.
