ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Happy Music Monday!
Kaley Rutledge began her music career under the moniker, De Joie, where she released ethereal, scenic songs like 'Oslo' and 'Amsterdam,' and recently embarked on a new, self-titled project with her debut album, 'Tender Heart'. Her debut record shows a clear artistic vision through live instrumentation and vulnerable disclosure. As a Nashville-based singer-songwriter, Kaley's blunt, tongue-in-cheek songwriting creates space for meaningful self reflection and introspection.
In this episode, we discuss moving to Nashville at a young age, the discouragement of comparison, changing course, authenticity, being ‘Tough Enough’ to walk away, collaborating with Thad Kopec, the dark side of artistry, advocating for higher pay for creatives, the invaluable nature of art, the importance of hope, surrounding yourself with people who see you, the vision and significance behind live instrumentation on the record, how unfamiliar environments contribute to creativity, advice for people in their twenties, what's next for Kaley, and her underrated artist suggestions!
