00:00:04
Speaker 1: That's right. We are on the air.
00:00:06
Speaker 2: It's hour number two Friday edition of The Huddle. Fox Sports Radio Wisconsin. Drew Wilson, Billy Schmid, armand Sary and bringing it to you from headquarters.
00:00:14
Speaker 1: And oh baby, this is a special day. This is the day that the Huddle goes.
00:00:18
Speaker 2: International long distance man as we welcome back to the program our returning champion, The Sorority Sports Report with Kapa Kate Kate Sutton, usually emanating from Madison, today it's from Milan.
00:00:28
Speaker 1: Kate, how are things good afternoon for you?
00:00:32
Speaker 3: Good afternoon. It's one o'clock here and it's actually.
00:00:34
Speaker 4: The first sunny day we've had any very long time, so it's exciting.
00:00:38
Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, that's not right.
00:00:39
Speaker 2: Day seven of the Milan Courtina Olympics. Kate, what have you done so far? We're all so jealous. We've been watching and wondering what it's like to be in the belly of the beast for an event like this.
00:00:49
Speaker 5: What is it like?
00:00:50
Speaker 3: Oh, it's insane.
00:00:51
Speaker 4: Every I mean, I already knew coming here that I'd be meeting a bunch of people from around the world, but I mean when you're coming here and starting off strong During the Olympics, I'm just around by everyone's repping their country. I know exactly like what language to try to speak to someone to Most of the time though, they just start speaking in English. I don't really blunt in at all here. But it's it's super cool. I mean, there's lights everywhere. They have so many pop up stores that I've definitely gone into a few of those, and I don't want to go again today and maybe buy another hat or something.
00:01:24
Speaker 1: That is just so wild. So what events have you been.
00:01:27
Speaker 5: To so far?
00:01:28
Speaker 3: So I went to the opening ceremony.
00:01:31
Speaker 4: So there was this deal where you could do a two for one ticket if you are a student or actually I think he was under the age of twenty six, so instead of paying two hundred and sixty, I only paid one hundred and thirty to go.
00:01:41
Speaker 3: So my friends and I went as a large group. It was so much fun. We went to a pub beforehand, went in there and while we were in there too.
00:01:49
Speaker 4: It's just like the Coronas are everywhere because that's their main sponsor.
00:01:53
Speaker 3: So that was super fun.
00:01:54
Speaker 4: And then after that I went to the woman's US hockey game when they played Switzerland, and that was amazing to watch because we shut them out five to oh. And I mean all the six players from Madison. I mean, that's just such a cool connection that we have, at least to the school. So I'm super That was the most exciting game I think I've been to. And then I just got back from Cortina because I had a friend from high school who actually competed in Louse yesterday.
00:02:23
Speaker 3: He broke the track record and was the first.
00:02:27
Speaker 4: American to ever place in number one in luge in any race ever. He ended up in six, but his first run he was in first place. It was the most That was the most exciting event. Honestly, I'm already I'm mourning it today. That's why we're in all black.
00:02:43
Speaker 5: That's great, so pre gaming for the opening ceremonies, but.
00:02:47
Speaker 1: The right way, Well that's the thing.
00:02:50
Speaker 6: Kate Arma has been trying to sell me on going in twenty twenty eight to LA and I'm be completely honest, I think I'm going to find a lot of other things to do, but now you just sold me on the energy. So opening ceremonies, we think, and we see on television, seems like there might just be a lot of people walking around, but that that was maybe one of the more electric times for the opening ceremonies because of the festivities.
00:03:10
Speaker 1: Prior to in the squad that you guys were able to roll through with. I love that.
00:03:14
Speaker 4: Yes, like we had to make it as fun as we could well because again this is also the first widespread Olympics ever, So this that's why it's Malan Courtina.
00:03:23
Speaker 3: So we're sitting there in there and there's the lady in silvers.
00:03:26
Speaker 4: Every time they're calling out the country, you're supposed to walk out and all these athletes are supposed to follow, except most countries had no athletes following them. So we're sitting in the building in Milan and we're like, where the heck are all the athletes. Well, the majority of them are in Courtina, so then you can see certain countries if you have more people competing in the arenas they were here in Milan, if they were in the Alps, that's where they were.
00:03:48
Speaker 3: So I mean, it was it was still super fun to watch.
00:03:51
Speaker 4: But my friend Marcus, who was there, he said the Cortina opening ceremony was super fun for him because it was way more intimate. We're in an arena Milan, so we were just high up. Thankfully, my seats were great, so I got to like watch them go out of the tunnel and everything. But back in fourteen, they were giving high fives everyone on the street stuff like that, just like you got to hang out with the athlete.
00:04:12
Speaker 2: But Billy, if I may here, you're wondering about the pageantry of the Is it a TV event or is it something you can enjoy in person? Dude, we were just at the NFL Draft, which is yes, and we enjoyed that.
00:04:26
Speaker 1: So that's the thing.
00:04:27
Speaker 6: That's why I'm like, if I'm going to go to something, the ceremony might be the last thing, because that feels like the least that's right, But the luge being the most entertaining might be my favorite part.
00:04:36
Speaker 5: It is interesting that they had the second ceremony, sorry, Kate, because it's sort of like, no, it's like the spring training MLB thing. It's like the play they're more accessible there. It's a smaller environment, you know, sometimes it's a great experience to do that. It's like the summer It's like the summer school graduation. You know, you had the graduation, not the main event, but they graduated from the summer school kids, you know, but people forget that there there were two like that. That's an interesting tidbit.
00:04:59
Speaker 2: So yeah, Kate, here, when most people go abroad, they get to know their town maybe for the first weekend or two, and then they hit the U rail and they start traveling around.
00:05:07
Speaker 5: There's no reason for you to leave right now.
00:05:10
Speaker 4: No, I mean, I will say, we've been doing some day trips. So my friends and I we did do like late Saturday night through all Sunday. We went to Florence, so we got to explore that for a bit. That is so much different than on I will say, because I feel like it's very The places that a lot of students had to go to is Barcelona, Florence, and Rome. So when we go to Florence, there's literally a study abroad bar there were shots labeled for each of the colleges and university Wisconsin.
00:05:38
Speaker 3: I had it.
00:05:38
Speaker 4: I can't even remember what it was. It wasn't a very good shot, which was a little disappointed. I'm like, we're the drinking say, you guys had to represent much better, but it was the whole Florence was still super fun, I believe. On Sunday, my friends and I are plane and going to Bologna or Madona, one.
00:05:54
Speaker 3: Of the two.
00:05:55
Speaker 4: But we're trying to take some day trips. But exactly we're here, we're exploring, We're trying to like there. There's so many fun events that are happening. Now, what's the reason to everyone's pay to us?
00:06:05
Speaker 3: We don't have to.
00:06:06
Speaker 2: You're at the center of the universe right now. We're all watching. Every day, we're watching stuff that's happening by you. So Billy was asking, first of all, how good is the food? Because you go from being you know, you don't live in university housing anymore, so you don't have like the dorm food anymore. But you're eating ramen noodles like a college student. And now you go overseas, and that's one of the things I've been floored by when I travel is how good the food is.
00:06:26
Speaker 5: How good is the food in Milan?
00:06:29
Speaker 4: Unreal to the point where my bank account is sort of taking a hit.
00:06:33
Speaker 5: I don't know how Mom's watching.
00:06:35
Speaker 6: She's gonna help out, she already said, she already said, you're going to replenish.
00:06:39
Speaker 4: I'm already starting to hit the point where and be like, hey, Mom and Dad, like my savings are gone because it's been two weeks, and I mean, I also want to go to as many Olympic events as I can while I have the opportunity to. So even now, like I'm wondering if I should just pay the money and try and go to the USA Woman's Gold sit Gold game, try and buy it because I'm I hope the USA will make it there. So I mean, you're paying for that on top of the fact that I'm trying to try every restaurant around me. The pasta is incredible, the pizza's unreal and what's super fun is I mean, at least in my area, I did find a place that gives you a whole pizza for only six year ros.
00:07:17
Speaker 5: Whoa, there's deals, yeah deal, and they get down with the multiple court, the multiple courses. You know, you know you go there. You don't just sit there and you know you had the the first the pasta course, the second course.
00:07:27
Speaker 1: I know.
00:07:28
Speaker 5: It's it's a it's an experience, man. It's pretty awesome. Though.
00:07:31
Speaker 6: Have we hit any any of the gelato spots? Was is that it become a nightly nightly occurrence as well?
00:07:37
Speaker 3: I I wish we've honestly. Honestly, it's been the joke.
00:07:40
Speaker 4: So far. We've been eating so much pizza and pasa that we haven't really had a lot of gelato yet. But I did go to Venice because on my way to Courtina it was actually cheaper for me to go to Venice. I had someplace if you ever go, go to Suso Gelato. It was probably the best ice cream I've ever had in my entire life. But I mean, that's kind of expected we're in Italy. But yeah, no, honestly, the major the problem that I've been having is the fact that everyone.
00:08:08
Speaker 3: Eats so late here, very late. All the restaurants are closed until seven pm.
00:08:14
Speaker 4: So when you're out partying as late as most students are, because I mean my college, my university here has like set up student events that go until like two three in the morning, So it's one of those things. We're also and you're waking up late that you want to eat, and all the restaurants are now closed for close after lunch.
00:08:31
Speaker 3: Then there's that awkward break and then they don't open until dinner.
00:08:33
Speaker 5: Man, this is awesome.
00:08:35
Speaker 6: That sounds like the best time I'm in a whole squad out there as well.
00:08:39
Speaker 2: Tate sutten joining us capacate the sorority sports port allowed from Milan where she's studying abroad. Now let's get the studying a broad part in because we know your parents might be listening to the program.
00:08:49
Speaker 1: Class work classes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, you have classes.
00:08:53
Speaker 2: You're taking three classes, and you have basically weekends free, which is a veteran move.
00:08:57
Speaker 5: Great work, you know I should I.
00:09:00
Speaker 4: So here's something new. I'm in an exchange program. So I'm going to an Italian university. So in America, the very norm is that you're in the same classroom, you have the same.
00:09:09
Speaker 3: Schedule that should be set. I just came.
00:09:12
Speaker 4: Actually that's why I had to do a one o'clock is because I just came from a three hour lecture that started at eight thirty am and ended at noon today because he moved it from Monday to Friday just for this week. So I have to check my schedule every week to see if my professors will change things around.
00:09:27
Speaker 3: So I did go.
00:09:29
Speaker 4: I did make it barely, and I kind of fell asleep in the middle of it because there's family business strategies and I mean, I can only listen to that for so long.
00:09:37
Speaker 6: I mean, I'm the fall for making.
00:09:39
Speaker 1: It three and a half hours.
00:09:40
Speaker 6: In all reality, Okay, you get more credit for actually gone. The professor changes the DAYTRIU. I can't change that. I'm sorry, I'm locked in. I had an appointment with the couch. I'm sorry.
00:09:51
Speaker 5: I can't cancel that. You had to watch my bathlun and cross country scheme yet I'm going to sleep. Yes, I can't cancel on that appointment myself. Short track.
00:10:03
Speaker 4: This is the one with the hardest attendants to the second. This is like an app that essentially you have to use here that you check in every single class that say you record attendance. Most of my classes, thankfully three out of the four say if you can't make it, you can't make it. We understand your exchange. Students try to come like you have to at least come to seventy five percent.
00:10:21
Speaker 3: But if we get it. However, the professor this.
00:10:24
Speaker 4: Morning for the three hour, eight thirty lecture, he's my only professor that will go through and double check that people that have checked in on the app are actually in person. And there were six kids that just checked in hoping he wouldn't notice and now they're going to be sent to the dean.
00:10:44
Speaker 6: Yeah, I know I can because I would have done that. I can't tell you how many times I'm thinking, that's definitely already trying to check in and see if you would check.
00:10:51
Speaker 3: My heart stopped because that was my plan too.
00:10:54
Speaker 4: I was like, you know, if I can't take it, I'll just press the check in and hope for the best.
00:10:58
Speaker 5: You confused by the language or something? Always?
00:11:01
Speaker 1: Is it just me?
00:11:02
Speaker 5: Or is that a little redundant? Though you check it on the app to see that you're in class, but it's like then they're checking in the class. I'm like, isn't that redundant?
00:11:08
Speaker 3: That's that's exactly what we thought.
00:11:10
Speaker 4: Where all the students are looking at each other as we're watching the names get written down, We're like, what's this guy's problem? Like it's a Friday morning, like you get I don't know.
00:11:21
Speaker 5: Come on, man, I don't like this guy already.
00:11:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't like this guy, doesn't you know?
00:11:24
Speaker 5: Bob sleds on, like, come on.
00:11:27
Speaker 3: Doesn't he know that I just came from furteena like I had think.
00:11:30
Speaker 6: About the people, think about the people, professor, Come on, that's right.
00:11:34
Speaker 2: Seriously, what is it like, Kate to attend a loge event, because none of us have ever seen that sport live? Like, where do you position yourself to get any view at all? Like, you know, it's a little bit like watching a marathon. I watch, I'm here in one spot, we're ready to move to another.
00:11:49
Speaker 5: But what is it like see.
00:11:51
Speaker 3: I actually would compare it to F one. How you get a spot and.
00:11:56
Speaker 4: You only see it for like zero point five seconds and then it's gone. So in luge, normally a lot of people my friend Aubrey and I She's from New Berlin as well, so we both met up there when we actually were with Marcus's family while we were there and we stayed with them. So where we ended up watching was actually just at the bottom of the main area, right when you walk in, and there's a big JumboTron. That's just where we all sat and washed and the luge hat went right behind us. So it was the perfect spot. So we're watching them throughout the whole race, and then you can turn around for a few seconds and watch them fly by and then they're gone again in the tunnels. So it was it was definitely new for me. But I was if I hadn't compare it, I would say F one. And there were some people that were up at the starting line up, like as Aubrey and I walked all the way up the mountain all the way down. There were people lined up all throughout the all against the tunnels. But I trusted. I trusted the Marcus's family who have watched this consistently, here's the best spot to watch.
00:12:54
Speaker 3: And they were absolutely right.
00:12:54
Speaker 4: There was a huge crowd and when Marcus won the entire place, he erupted because that was their first Olympic Games.
00:13:00
Speaker 3: They beat out guy in their first round.
00:13:02
Speaker 4: They beat out guys that have been losing together longer than they've been alive. So it was so exciting, truly, like once in a lifetime experience.
00:13:10
Speaker 1: In the studio here we have your mom's station.
00:13:12
Speaker 2: On the twelve and the mornings, they just showed a live shot of Milan for the Olympics, and they had Jason Newton, who used to work here, who's there covering for them. And it's funny and it looks beautiful. What's it like weatherwise? How's it compared to Wisconsin. It's forty five degrees here Billy's and shorts today.
00:13:27
Speaker 1: Better believe it.
00:13:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's forty five. What is it like there? And how how cold is it? And how do you know when you're going to a lose thing? What is one where in terms of like you know, being on a mountain and stuff, how do you adapt?
00:13:39
Speaker 4: The weather was definitely different, Like she Marcus's mom texted Aubrey and I please make sure that you dress warm. She's like, please bring boots. I look in my closet. I only have high heeled boots and I have sneakers because I packed as light as I could. So then I'm in a panic. And thankfully I went to because I'm in Milan fashion and.
00:13:57
Speaker 3: Capital in the world.
00:13:58
Speaker 4: That's truemo And I got some cheap twenty dollars snow boots that were a size too big, but I just had to like layer up my socks.
00:14:05
Speaker 3: That was the smartest thing I've ever.
00:14:07
Speaker 4: Done, because it was freezing in fourteen when you're just standing out there like I'm wearing as much as I can, but still like it was a lot colder out there. Of course you're in the mountains and around all the snow here. It's honestly just been very rainy, very cloudy, very rainy. It's been consistently like around forty forty five degrees. Today is the nicest day that we've had so far. It's sixty degrees, it's sunny. I'm gonna go on a walk after this.
00:14:30
Speaker 3: It's it's beautiful. I'm so excited.
00:14:32
Speaker 5: It's interesting because I remember the Socialo Olympics it was an issue because it wasn't getting cold enough for some of the events, and the snow was not you know, staying on the mountains and things like that. So it's good to hear that, at least mostly in the mountains, it's been cold enough for the actual you know, the actual tis in the competition.
00:14:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, the night we showed up, it actually started snowing a little bit as we were walking back up, but the next day it all was melting. So, you know, it was very bipolar out there. It was freezing when we got there, but then it was pretty. And here's the thing. When I say warm, I think it was like thirty two thirty three degrees outside, but still for the snow and everything, like people were saying, especially at the Loose tournament, we wanted it to be colder because that means the ice is gonna be thicker stuff like that. So I mean, really, the Winter Olympics, it comes down to a science because I think it was one of the Olympics actually in Quartina back in the day. Maybe that's wrong, but it's they had a fly in snow. They had to have an army flying snow to one of the Winter Olympics. And I'm just grateful for hold, for Italy that they didn't have to do that.
00:15:31
Speaker 2: Here now here's here's the last thing for you, Kate, as you're in the center of it and you're going to events and you're just living and breathing it because it's there. It's you're surrounded by the Olympics. Are you watching anything on television? Like are you watching the Italian feed? Are you watching like events like just while you're studying or something, or while you're at a bar? Is it on is it like? Is it you know? Is it inescapable? Are you consuming it the way we are watching on TV?
00:15:55
Speaker 4: I would, honestly, I was a little shocked that there weren't more like jumbo trons showing stuff because here's the issue. I mean, the arena and the both of the arenas. In order to get to the opening ceremony or to get to the hockey arena, you had to go an hour outside in opposite directions of the main city center. So when I went out closer to the arenas, it was everywhere. All the TVs were up, all the bars had stuff going on. In Milan, it they're they're playing stuff. But honestly, it's it's been a little bit quieter. When I say quieter, I just mean like.
00:16:25
Speaker 6: It's not like business as usual, right, because it's a huge city.
00:16:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a huge city.
00:16:31
Speaker 4: So honestly it also maybe not even seeing the right spots or areas. I mean, I'm sorry about university and I feel like a lot of the kids are enjoying themselves, but not as invested as I think a lot.
00:16:41
Speaker 3: Of other people.
00:16:42
Speaker 5: There's a lot of people that care more about fashion than the Olympics.
00:16:44
Speaker 1: I was gonna say, it is.
00:16:47
Speaker 5: The place exactly, Oh my goodness.
00:16:50
Speaker 2: So who's if we have the ballpark, you can stereotype first, who are the what country? The students that you've encountered are the most fun outside of us, of course, the USA U S Wins was the most fun to hang with.
00:17:01
Speaker 5: To run with Ireland.
00:17:03
Speaker 6: You know the Irish guys.
00:17:05
Speaker 3: I know my drinks.
00:17:06
Speaker 4: I've been We had a pub, we had a pub crawl for my school one night, and that's how we met them all. And that was that was one heck of a night. Because they're talking in their thick Irish accents. I could barely understand what they were saying. Stop laughing because I thought it was a joke. It was They're They're the most fun. But a lot of the friends I've made, I have a really good friend from Singapore, I have a friend from friends from Italy, I friends from France, and I just found a new friend from Spain actually, But a lot of other people from the US just scattered, like Texas, Virginia, Washington.
00:17:39
Speaker 6: Was Studying abroad always part of your plant cake, is it? It seems like you've had it down to a science right out of the gates, not only from just the planning of the country and the timing of it, planets of a line.
00:17:48
Speaker 3: Let me tell you, it was my dream to study abroad.
00:17:51
Speaker 4: I honestly didn't think i'd be able to because I mean, as a lot of people know, study abroad programs are quite expensive, so it was I was thinking maybe I save up I just travel afterwards. But this exchange program I'm a part of is almost like the gateway. It's the cheat code because if you get into the exchange programs, all you're paying is your same tuition that you would be paying to go to the.
00:18:12
Speaker 3: University of Wisconsin instead.
00:18:13
Speaker 5: Great, so I.
00:18:14
Speaker 4: Am all by myself out here, so, like I mean, it's been a little scary. I had to fill out my permit, I had to go meet with the Italian government, I had to get a tax code. I had to do everything myself. When I have a few friends that are in this IEES program that get everything.
00:18:30
Speaker 3: Handed to them.
00:18:31
Speaker 4: But that program, again, it just it depends on what you're looking for and what experience that you want to have. But this exchange program really gave me that opportunity to actually come out here.
00:18:40
Speaker 3: And it just so I didn't even know that the Olympics were going to be here during Yeah.
00:18:45
Speaker 4: I wanted pasta, gelato and pizza and I go, if I'm going to study abroad, I want to go.
00:18:52
Speaker 1: So jealously. Hey, keep enjoying, enjoy, take big bites.
00:18:56
Speaker 2: Think of Billy when you get your gelato and we hope to get another report few maybe at the back end of the Olympics, maybe when you go to the closing ceremonies.
00:19:04
Speaker 3: That would be fun.
00:19:05
Speaker 2: All right, thanks for joining us, Kate. Get out there and enjoy Milan. You bet the sorority sports port Capacate. Kate Sutton, a University Wisconsin student who's been joined us for a while.
00:19:15
Speaker 5: Now, what a fantastic experience too, you know, go there.
00:19:18
Speaker 1: One thing is she's enjoying life right now.
00:19:20
Speaker 2: But we were talking about it before she left, like what if the Badger's go on a final four run and you're overseas.
00:19:25
Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, then she'll have fomo. That's the other than that. Now, not much.
00:19:30
Speaker 2: When we come back, Dolph is going to join us from the country station down the hall, our halftime correspondent halftime of our final show the week, my final show before vacation. It's the Huddle, Fox Sports Radio Wisconsin bringing it to you, joined by our halftime correspondent Scott Dolphin from the country station down the hall.
00:19:49
Speaker 7: Oh, don't mind those donuts, help yourself. Oh my god, Oh right here, this is just cruel, Drew. I walk in here and there's a bet there's a box of donuts.
00:19:56
Speaker 1: I hit the sinker.
00:19:57
Speaker 7: You got to eat the sinker from now I have to wait, what fifteen twenty minutes from grab one.
00:20:02
Speaker 2: If you've ever done remotes at restaurants and stuff, and it's the first law of radio is that you'll just start a segment and they'll drop the food in front of it. Right there are fifteen minutes to stare at it longingly.
00:20:13
Speaker 6: It's why my favorite part of college game day has become when they bring out the food.
00:20:19
Speaker 5: All those eyes are looking when you got their ribs.
00:20:22
Speaker 6: What are these McAfee standing and let me see one of these things, coach, Let me see what this meat feels like.
00:20:26
Speaker 1: You guys just gnawing on all of it.
00:20:29
Speaker 7: When you guys do b dubs? Is the food right in the middle of your show? Or how do you do the show at the same time? Just power through in the commercial break?
00:20:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, which I hate, which I hate rushing to eat. So it's like you have to take your you have to take your you know, pick your poison on that because it's one of those things. But it's like do I eat after That's when everyone's packing up, So it's more brutal than people. I know, these are champaign problems, and people are hearing like, oh you have you have to worry about one to eat your free foot now, I mean it comes.
00:20:53
Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you, Dolph.
00:20:55
Speaker 6: It's the only time that I choose boneless.
00:20:57
Speaker 5: Wings, right, because it's easier to you know, pop in there.
00:21:01
Speaker 6: Yeah, there's it's also tough when you know you're gonna be talking to people, interacting and the sauce all over your hands. But that's yeah, you know, we we figure it out. We muddle through. If we're gonna talk ball, we might as well have some might as well have something eat.
00:21:13
Speaker 5: But when I do stuff for FM six, I don't.
00:21:16
Speaker 7: I don't eat because I'm afraid, you know, if I'm gonna be on stage or something, it's gonna be.
00:21:19
Speaker 5: In my teeth. Sure.
00:21:20
Speaker 7: Oh yeah, So I never eat when I do stuff or when I do charity events. You know, you always serve a meal and oh yeah, I never eat well.
00:21:25
Speaker 6: And you guys got to have a tough one coming up, because say, Saint Patrick's Day, I feel like is one of Yeah, what's.
00:21:29
Speaker 1: That gig you've had? You've done that?
00:21:31
Speaker 7: Yeah, we's bounced around the last several have been at Kelly's Bleachers in wind Lake and that is nuts. Yeah, there's green pancakes and sausage and lots of guinness and you know, being dropped off at the table when you're doing the show. But everybody's drunk, so it doesn't really make and that is the yeah, that helps out consider your audience.
00:21:48
Speaker 2: So we're getting rave reviews about Kappa Kate Kate Sutton, Stephanie Sutton's daughter, Kate. Friend of the program are uh we do the Sorority Sports Report with Kappa Kate Love. She's in Madison because she's a Kappa and she is now studying abroad and she's our Olympics correspondent. So we were international today with a live report from Milan and she was just in Courtina for the luge watching one of her high school classmates.
00:22:08
Speaker 5: What a life she's leading me.
00:22:09
Speaker 7: That's amazing high school classmates in the Loose County is the United States Olympian?
00:22:14
Speaker 5: I love that. It's just wild.
00:22:15
Speaker 1: What do we have?
00:22:16
Speaker 7: We have six wisconsinights, including a loser from Brookfield one.
00:22:20
Speaker 1: That's the guy.
00:22:20
Speaker 6: That's the guy in Yeah, Marcus, that was the guy because she was.
00:22:23
Speaker 5: Hanging out his family question when it losers becomes sliders. I keep hearing everyone talking about sliding, and there are sliders now, and everything I read about the lose it's like an experienced slider. So they're calling them sliders now. I don't know when that's.
00:22:36
Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean otherwise it would have been a rider, right, theysure?
00:22:40
Speaker 5: I could I think that that? I really think. I think it includes the skeleton, which is which is a forward facing louge, which is you have a death wish. She's crazy, it's crazy, you have a death wish.
00:22:51
Speaker 1: Losers are crazy too.
00:22:52
Speaker 7: I'd be like Chevy in Christmas vacation where there'd be no control. I'd be off the track going through the Walmart parking lot.
00:22:58
Speaker 5: How do you figure out you're good too? That's what I want to know. How do you figure out you're good at losing?
00:23:03
Speaker 1: That one?
00:23:04
Speaker 6: I can see a lot more than like John Fanta, who is calling the Badger game at Illinois. He had a video of a guy that was the halftime entertainment who was not all halftime entertainment.
00:23:12
Speaker 1: You might want to take notes. Yeah, it was.
00:23:14
Speaker 6: Uh, just balancing a ladder. Yeah, Like that's the one I wonder how you learn, Like, how do I know that I can balance this ladder on my hand losing? I mean my kids taking the laundry basket right down the those steps right now. I think you're trying that at three or four years old.
00:23:30
Speaker 5: That's a good point.
00:23:30
Speaker 7: Bobsletters usually come from other things, right well, yeah, well let's tie it together.
00:23:35
Speaker 2: Johnny Quinn, former Packers wide receiver turned Olympic Bob sledter.
00:23:38
Speaker 1: Remember Aaron Rodgers was a big fan of Johnny Quinn.
00:23:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, I do remember that.
00:23:42
Speaker 1: He was a Packer who made the US Bob sled team.
00:23:47
Speaker 7: So and if you have good legs, good strong sprinters, rightyeah, you're the whole cool runnings thing.
00:23:52
Speaker 5: That's the whole Jamaican Bob's ledge that was. And he was in soci competed in soshi. Wow. Now he's like a motivational speaker or something.
00:23:59
Speaker 1: I love that. ANDFL player and olympian. YEA, not a bad life.
00:24:03
Speaker 2: I was gonna say, the ven diagram of guys who have done that, that's not very Sometimes you saw it the.
00:24:07
Speaker 7: Other way around, where you have guys that were world class sprinters, you know, get a look in the NFL Willie Gault Right, yeah, yeah, Well he was a great spender, was it?
00:24:15
Speaker 1: Who is the guy with Mayah?
00:24:18
Speaker 7: There you go, that's the probably the one that comes to mind the most incredible hurdler.
00:24:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, he was.
00:24:23
Speaker 6: I feel like people always were trying to think of what Bolt would be like in a right away when he broke the under meter. When he first came on, it was like NFL pat this is the totally American thing. We think about, how we can make guys and how many times? What position would Lebron play? Would he be a Hall of Fame tight end? People talk about that all the time. Yeah, he probably would.
00:24:43
Speaker 2: Probably He's a guy who played for the Packers and the Bears. Wide receiver Anthony Morgan. Oh yeah, remember Anthony Morgan. I went to Tennessee and he was like a track guy too. But Anthony Morgan, like to this day, is the most imposing impressive physical space I think I've ever seen over Glenn Braggs absolutely remember Glenn in a similar class with Glenn Braggs.
00:25:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, Glenn Braggs.
00:25:09
Speaker 2: When you look at baseball videos and stuff, when you go down Armine's rabbit hole and you see from the eighties, like Jim Rice was the most feared player in baseball, and now he looks like he'd be a shortstop or something. He's like, there's guys who are more much more hulking now because no one lifted weights back then.
00:25:23
Speaker 1: But Glenn Braggs was the outlier. He had. No matter what size uniform he gave him, it was.
00:25:27
Speaker 5: Skin tight because he was just yoked and there was I mean, they used to have the competitions if you remember, like NFL Fastest. They used to put them on tracks and Travis Jermy won that a couple of times. He was one of the fastest guys former packer of Cenadel guys.
00:25:41
Speaker 6: Still one of my favorites is Jonathan Taylor. When he was coming out of the out of the draft, people were asking if he had breakaway speed.
00:25:47
Speaker 5: I'm like, wait a.
00:25:47
Speaker 6: Second, the guy that they asked to be on the four by one hundred relay team for the team that went to the national championships. Yeah, I don't know if he's got breakaways.
00:25:55
Speaker 5: You watch college football.
00:25:56
Speaker 1: I don't know what he does. Yeah he does.
00:25:58
Speaker 7: Travis Jervey part of the those late ninety Super Bowl runs, right, Yes, he was on those nineties packers teams.
00:26:04
Speaker 5: Absolutely, yeah he was. He has a ring.
00:26:06
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:26:06
Speaker 5: Also had to add the pet lion with Sean Lashan Johnson john.
00:26:12
Speaker 7: Oh yeah, he got in trouble, didn't Lashawn Johnson the Cowboy?
00:26:15
Speaker 5: Yep, yeah he did. Yeah.
00:26:16
Speaker 2: Fortunately, all right, so duff we uh it's the eve of Valentine's Day? Yeah, and it's Friday the thirteenth. I mean our cup runs over in turn radio stuff? Right, So is that tricks tricks, a deck of phobia. I believe our buddy Delby leans into it, calls it his lucky day because he's unlucky the other three sixty four, So we that's kind of my point. Yeah, he'll walk under that ladder because get a much worse exactly. But Valentine's Day, what do you got? We're planning for your sweetie. What's you've been married long enough that the pressure should be off. Thirty five years this year will be married.
00:26:50
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, way back in nineteen ninety one. We are not a huge go out now. We get each other the little gifties. I'll probably get a bottle of bourbon. She usually gets flowers and that, and trade and a nice card. We're gonna our big plans is we're getting together with our kids who we haven't seen in uh sorry, Billy plug your years. You know, kids, they leave the house and just don't see them. We haven't seen our kids probably since early we all got together and watched the Packers Bears playoff game. What was that early January, mid junu So we're gonna get together and have a Valentine's Day brunch with them. That's that's awesome. That's the sweet spot. That's our big Valentine's Day and kids.
00:27:23
Speaker 6: Well, that's good because that's that's part of our trip out of Florida is the Valentine's Day gift That my parents' wedding anniversary is next week too, so it's like sweet, we'll combine it in.
00:27:31
Speaker 1: And they haven't seen the kids in almost a month too, So you're going to Florida for Valentine's Day. We're going down there.
00:27:35
Speaker 6: Yeah, we're going on on Saturday, Sunday and Southwest. Last year, now this time, I'm actually leaving on Valentine's Day with my family. Last year, I flew down without my family to go to the day too on a five hundred.
00:27:45
Speaker 1: Not as good as a move, but.
00:27:47
Speaker 6: When you fly on Southwest on Valentine's Day, one of like the five days they give you a free drink.
00:27:52
Speaker 5: I love that, so that's nice. They're still doing something for their uh five days where.
00:27:56
Speaker 6: They gave you gave you a free drink. The mom that was sitting next to me, who across the isle, her husband was with the two daughters.
00:28:02
Speaker 5: She was fired up. You don't have the lions at anniversary or something like that, Not that I've ever done anything like that.
00:28:09
Speaker 2: The rest army looking for the discount every time armand always tells somebody that it's somebody's birthday, so he gets a free dessert place.
00:28:18
Speaker 7: Lookcause they don't know that it's not our birth true. You're going to Portavara. Are you any any romantic plans when you get down to the Oh well.
00:28:25
Speaker 2: It would be maybe walk through the romantic zone. But other than that, it's just a Saturday. It's like, you know, we are traveling, so traveling is always you know, it's a long day.
00:28:35
Speaker 1: You know, you just came back, you know from Boots on the Beach. It's a long day the first day.
00:28:39
Speaker 2: But you want to leave first flight out so that you can get there and try to enjoy as much of that day as you can, right because they say seven days and it turns up being five because you're traveling the last exactly exactly.
00:28:49
Speaker 1: I watched enough Love.
00:28:50
Speaker 7: Boat as a kid to know that Port of Arta is part of that that cruise, you know where the Pacific Princess would go from down down to Cabo and Port of Art and then onto Acapolco.
00:28:59
Speaker 5: I remember you.
00:29:00
Speaker 2: Used to be the spot. Then the cartel's ruined. It now no longer a tourist place. But part of our is beautiful.
00:29:05
Speaker 5: It is.
00:29:06
Speaker 7: It's a beautiful place. There's a lot of old history there. Watch out for those high curbs downtown. They usually get me.
00:29:11
Speaker 5: They're like like two to three foot curve.
00:29:13
Speaker 1: You can take a digger out. You gotta be careful for partying.
00:29:16
Speaker 5: Yep, that is that's good, good advice there.
00:29:19
Speaker 1: I was studying up on Love Boat.
00:29:20
Speaker 6: I thought you guys were on like the very very early version of Love is Blind and stuff. But this looks like much much better, a much better show to be watching.
00:29:28
Speaker 7: It got all of the I wouldn't call them the big stars of the day, but a lot of the stars of sitcom and UH and TV shows would go on love Boat and you'd get excited to see mister Roper from Three's Company.
00:29:39
Speaker 1: Oh he's gonna be a love capital.
00:29:42
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:29:43
Speaker 1: Think about that though.
00:29:43
Speaker 2: The set and it allowed them to show women in bikinis and stuff and allowed them to you know.
00:29:48
Speaker 6: Yeah, this seems like something that needs to be streamed.
00:29:50
Speaker 1: Yeah. You remember the song right.
00:29:52
Speaker 5: The love Boat there it is, that's right right, yeah, the Jack Jones sing this O.
00:30:06
Speaker 1: Like this Okay, Yeah, this show was a classic.
00:30:09
Speaker 2: And you had the characters were the crew, like there's Captain Stubing, there was the ship's doctor who has a bit of the playboy yeah, Gopher who ended up being a.
00:30:19
Speaker 7: United Station congressman from Iowa. One Grandy, and then you had the smoking hot Julie who was the entertainment movie that was right here, yeah, director Isaac, the bartender, and then they and then the random kind.
00:30:30
Speaker 1: Of ce D list celebrities that would pop, which is fire in the crew. So it changed every week. The guest stars were the attraction.
00:30:37
Speaker 5: Cheers, one of the people walk in the bar.
00:30:39
Speaker 1: Yeah right, a lot of camp.
00:30:40
Speaker 6: Sorry that doesn't help me when you bring up another show that I don't remember. Good point, but I like this. I'm gonna check it. I'm gonna have to check this.
00:30:46
Speaker 5: Well, you won't come out of that rabbit hole.
00:30:48
Speaker 2: You'll see Charrow andci COOCHI so campy because it's like there's this set on a ship, but it's so clearly a Hollywood set. It's a little bit like watching a Hallmark holiday film.
00:30:58
Speaker 1: It's like everything's fake.
00:30:59
Speaker 6: Like watching thebody drive in a ninety sitcom and you just the car just shaking, fake going around.
00:31:04
Speaker 5: So this was like late seventies, early eighties. You can just smell like the English leather colone. Oh yeah, the Ara, the colognes, you know those English leather from the gray flannel. Maybee absolutely disagrees with your smoking hot Julie. What are you smoking? I don't know that.
00:31:22
Speaker 4: Oh.
00:31:23
Speaker 1: I thought Julie was great. Man. She had that real short hair.
00:31:25
Speaker 7: Well she goes on hair and then she cut it and had that little pixie cut. Yeah, you tell it was all I mean, seventh grade B was a big Julie fan. Sorry, I hate to disagree with it.
00:31:34
Speaker 1: Was was Julie.
00:31:35
Speaker 6: Was this like the Marianna and Ginger would think.
00:31:39
Speaker 7: I think Julie was the only one on this it was like yeah, because then it was the rotating like you know, Lannie Anderson's on this week, and yeah, part of it had all the different.
00:31:48
Speaker 6: See Corey brings it up, he goes hopefully not the Minneapolis love boats. See the Vikings love boats. What I remembered from my child way.
00:31:54
Speaker 1: Way better lake uh minnetaka yeah, was that Fred Smoot. Was he in? He was on that deal? Oh yeah, he was on the idea.
00:32:01
Speaker 6: I still think my favorite is Nate Berlison now on CBS today telling the story of it, where he's a rookie and he's on the one boat and all of a sudden they're pulling up to the other side and they see the lights and all the one guy hanging off the edge of y'all.
00:32:14
Speaker 1: Gotta be over here is going down on this boat. You guys are missing out. Y'all are missing out going down up here.
00:32:19
Speaker 2: But what was more damaging that damaged the franchise's reputation stuff, But the giants when they went on that boat and they all had the timberlains and the jeans on and Odell Beckham and like they that was during their bye.
00:32:30
Speaker 1: Yeah, and then they uh fiffed in the next.
00:32:33
Speaker 5: I won't give them a story in oral history on that one too, that I said, like it barely went on the boat that long. They just took a quick picture.
00:32:39
Speaker 1: I think Odell tried to coach that.
00:32:41
Speaker 5: That was right before they played the pack a pack Odell dropped passes. We beat him in the playoffs. Yeah, right.
00:32:46
Speaker 7: Was that the same era where Plexico shot himself in the leg and the Oz.
00:32:50
Speaker 6: That was a little Alaxic goes a little earlier. Alexica was a little earlier, but there's still they might have fixed that dry wall at lambeau Field that Odell grabbed a little piece of that.
00:33:00
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:33:00
Speaker 2: The Shenanigans though, the Bie Week Shenanigans. That was Romo and Jessica Simpson and Jason Whitten and whoever his girl friend.
00:33:06
Speaker 6: Yeah, in Mexico film, Yes, and then the Giants beat him in Dallas.
00:33:11
Speaker 5: That's my quarterback.
00:33:12
Speaker 1: Oh my god. Scandal. So the mission is to avoid scandal.
00:33:18
Speaker 2: On Valentine's say do the bare minimum, get some flowers or be like Arma and wait till you know the day after Sunday, Armen will be a pick and say getting the discounted flat.
00:33:27
Speaker 5: I would, but this there's risk involved in that. You don't want to you know how it goes, Or.
00:33:31
Speaker 1: Go to speedway and get don't.
00:33:32
Speaker 7: Nothing says loves more than than a crawlery.
00:33:35
Speaker 5: They were selling Valentine's candy at Ross dressed for less. I was there for some mall schmooze time, just checking it out. There you go, so.
00:33:46
Speaker 2: Dress arm Armon gets his his Valentine's stuff on February sixteenth, and is Saint Patrick's stuff on March twentieth.
00:33:55
Speaker 5: Hey, hey, Russell Stober is the same in the grocery stores. It isn't Ross all right, geez, I'll get I'll get legitimate stuff. It's all on the card anyway. That's true.
00:34:09
Speaker 1: It's all. I know.
00:34:12
Speaker 5: You guys out there don't be using chat ept to write a valut how many how.
00:34:15
Speaker 6: Many Valentine's Day cards as you have bought from last year on February eighteenth.
00:34:19
Speaker 1: I should have.
00:34:20
Speaker 5: I should have. I didn't think about that. I should have.
00:34:23
Speaker 2: I would say, he's so tidy, squeaks, but no, when he opens his wallet, George Washington shields his eyes from the light.
00:34:30
Speaker 8: So good, that's all. It's just he's just saving money for his exactly.
00:34:41
Speaker 5: It's for your future sleeping, it's for your futureting it do.
00:34:48
Speaker 2: Had yourself a great Valentine's Day, Enjoy the bourbon. That sounds like a good tradition. Enjoy brunch with the kid, even that's the best kids getting hanged with the kids.
00:34:56
Speaker 7: Have a great time down in PV. I'm gonna try, Yes and Billy, enjoy your your floor.
00:35:01
Speaker 6: I'll be seeing you on Monday. Well, no, I'll be talking you on Monday. He's hosting from there. Yeah, from the Grapefruit League. Yes, technology idiot, it's a beautiful thing. As love it.
00:35:12
Speaker 1: Thanks do, Thanks, grab a donut on the way out, will all right?
00:35:15
Speaker 2: Hey, Matt Lapey is going to join us less than an hour from right now today at the Cole Center Badgers and Michigan State.
00:35:21
Speaker 1: It's the Huddle. Fox Sports Radio Wisconsin.
