ABOUT THIS EPISODE
What’s it like to pack your bags and move across the country to chase your dream degree? In this episode of Choosing Your Uni, Rob Malicki chats with Peter Nguyen, a final-year dentistry student at UWA who left Melbourne to study in Perth—and hasn’t looked back.
Peter shares the highs and lows of the journey: from missing out on a Commonwealth Supported Place at home to landing one at UWA, making the big decision to move, and eventually finding his people and purpose in WA. He talks through the real experience of studying dentistry—balancing theory and practical skills, the mental and physical demands of the job, and the game-changing role of tech in the field.
We also get a glimpse into rural placements, student life at UWA, the perks of living on campus, and why Perth’s beaches and laid-back lifestyle won him over. Plus, Peter opens up about his passion for content creation and how he's blending storytelling and dentistry to build trust and community—one reel at a time.
If you’re considering studying away from home, thinking about dentistry, or curious about student life at UWA, this episode is packed with real talk, inspiration, and insight.
