ABOUT THIS EPISODE
This week on The Spotlight, Zoha Alvi explores two very different forms of storytelling as Halloween approaches.
First, Zoha speaks with Canadian poet Garth Martens, one of the writers taking part in the Five Writers Book Launch at The Printed Word in Dundas. Martins discusses his latest collection, Who Else in the Dark Headed There, the role memory and musicality play in his poetry, and the importance of literary community in what can often feel like a solitary creative practice.
Then, Zoha speaks with The Silhouette Executive Editor and Ghost Guide/Manager of the Ghost Walks, Andrew Mrozowski about his work leading ghost walks in Hamilton. They discuss the history and folklore behind the tours, how local stories are researched and brought to life, and why ghost stories can offer a compelling way to connect people with the history of the places around them.
Together, the conversations look at how stories are shaped, performed and passed from one person to another — whether through poetry on the page or legends told on the streets of Hamilton.
