ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In episode forty-nine, Dr. Firestone continues his series on dream interpretation by exploring two influential but often overlooked approaches to understanding our dreams. Building on his previous discussion of Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, and Carl Jung, he examines the theories of Calvin Hall and Fritz Perls, showing how their approaches differ from the depth psychology of the Vienna School.
Along the way, Dr. Firestone explains the pivotal role of Immanuel Kant in the development of modern psychology, the emergence of experimental psychology through Wilhelm Wundt, and the competing philosophical assumptions that continue to shape how we think about dreams today. Should dreams be decoded as symbols pointing to hidden meanings, or should they be understood as direct reflections of our lived experience and personal growth?
