ABOUT THIS EPISODE
I’m excited about this episode and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. We’ve got Dr Nauvneel Kashyap.
Dr Nauvneel Kashyap is a multiple practice owner, practice ownership consultant, dentist and professional poker player. Nauv has hired 30-40 new graduates in his time and has many insights into the struggles and successes of the early years of a dental career.
This wide ranging discussion had so much packed into it that i have made it a two part series. But don’t stress, the wait for part two is only a week.
Part 1 covers:
- Nauv’s upbringing and pathway to dentistry
- How Nauv learnt wisdom tooth surgery to such a high level and his advice if you want to do the same
- Poker
- How he got into poker
- What being a professional poker player has taught him in business and dental practice
- How to control emotions in pressure situations
- Negotiating tips
- Tips for grads to avoid burnout
- Most important first steps as a grad
- Biggest weakness of new grads
- Learn about how graduates are trained, paid and their expectations within his practices
- Practice Ownership Consulting. Nauv’s consulting and seminar business
- Nauv’s advice for those wanting to learn surgery is to get the hands on experience. Best situation is to have a good mentor. Second best option is a hands on course. He mentions the oral surgery and wisdom teeth courses with Dr Anthony Goh and Dr Khaled Shahin.
- Communication comes up as critical for graduates. Nauv recommends Dr Mark Hassed. Coincidentally, we did a podcast with him last episode! Go to The Relaxed Dentist to find out details about his courses.
