ABOUT THIS EPISODE
The Count of Monte Cristo listens as Bertuccio’s appeal for justice in Nîmes is met with cold rejection.
When Villefort refuses both to investigate the murder and to help his brother’s widow, Bertuccio abandons hope of legal justice. Before leaving, he declares a Corsican vendetta against the magistrate and vows that they will meet again.
A plea for mercy becomes a solemn promise of revenge.
