00:00:00
Speaker 1: If you're having your favorite KFAN shows, you can.
00:00:02
Speaker 2: You can make your voice heard on the Bradshaw and Bryant KFAN text line. So that's how you say it by texting your message to 64686. That's 64686, standard text message and day rates apply.
00:00:19
Speaker 3: You okay?
00:00:19
Speaker 4: So on a normal day, I would have just walked in right when the music started playing. I have it timed out very well. Put the food in the microwave, get it prepared, hit start, go to the restroom, come back, grab food it's hot come in utensils sit down then get you to read a long rambling question i say quick answer and then say what do you think then you go and answer the question that i eat but i'm not doing that today i'm not having lunch today i'm i'm i've bartered for a day off tomorrow and it's i mean i'm not gonna say i'm not hungry sure i mean this is the time of day i generally eat we are all creatures of habit so generally now is when i would satiate my appetite But I need that day off so I can play golf with baby brother Peter, my second born. So I'm going to do that. Quickly, before we start, 534 here on the fan text message says, you pay the fee and open the DAZN app. It's not complex. I'm not saying it's complex. I don't want to pay for Wolves Basketball. Everybody chooses to pay for certain things that they want, right? I don't want to pay for NBA basketball. I'm not a big fan of NBA basketball. When they decide to give 48 minutes of effort every night, like I give three hours of effort every day, then I'll go ahead and I will, I will go ahead and subscribe to the NBA, but otherwise I'll just wait till the playoff time. And then once the playoffs start, that'll go to what, like TBS, TNT, CNN.
00:02:03
Speaker 5: FBI.
00:02:04
Speaker 6: FBI, CIA.
00:02:06
Speaker 5: Max Busby, dig it, dig it.
00:02:08
Speaker 6: Time now for 5.
00:02:10
Speaker 7: 3, 4.
00:02:11
Speaker 4: Time now for 5 questions.
00:02:17
Speaker 8: Well, actually 3, but 5 sounds like more than 4. Brought to you by Willow River Company.
00:02:23
Speaker 7: Question number one.
00:02:26
Speaker 8: Time now for an in-depth look at the state of the state of hockey.
00:02:42
Speaker 2: Your Minnesota Wild take on the St. Louis Blues at Grand Casino Arena tonight.
00:02:47
Speaker 5: Have we had enough rest?
00:02:48
Speaker 4: Because there was a lot of excuse making after the last loss. I think we played four games in two days, which is unheard of.
00:02:57
Speaker 6: And we had different.
00:02:57
Speaker 4: Time zones we were traveling from. And we have injuries on the third line and the fourth line. And Faber's got a fractured skull and Sturm got hit. So now have we had enough time off since our last game? I think we have two nights off.
00:03:11
Speaker 7: Now, right?
00:03:12
Speaker 1: I think so.
00:03:13
Speaker 5: Okay, very good. Who do we play tonight? St. Louis.
00:03:16
Speaker 2: Problem is, the injuries continue to stack up. Olimata is out with an upper body tonight. So the list of injuries, both Folinos, Spurgeon, Olimata, Nico Sturm, Gus Buss, which we knew about, and Brock Faber, all out for your Minnesota Wild.
00:03:32
Speaker 1: That leads me to ask you the question, are you.
00:03:34
Speaker 7: Concerned?
00:03:40
Speaker 5: I'm not sure about concern or confidence, but I am hungry. Because this is about the time I usually eat lunch.
00:03:50
Speaker 6: But I need that day off. And that's, you know, a deal's a deal, right?
00:03:54
Speaker 1: You can't quit now.
00:03:55
Speaker 5: Can't quit now.
00:03:56
Speaker 1: They said you can't do it.
00:03:57
Speaker 4: Ain't no stopping us now.
00:04:00
Speaker 6: We're on the groove. No, we're on the move or something like that.
00:04:04
Speaker 4: You know, I, you know, well, yeah, there's always cause for concern when there's injuries. Again, we, you know, the only one that the Faber one is the one we just, we, you know, we just don't know. Will it be another week, two weeks? Will it be three months? Will it be this season?
00:04:16
Speaker 6: You know, I don't think it's.
00:04:17
Speaker 5: Career ending, but that's, and he's an.
00:04:21
Speaker 4: He's a very important person. piece to the puzzle, right?
00:04:25
Speaker 6: The other injuries, you know, Gustafson, is that sort of lengthy?
00:04:30
Speaker 5: You're my wild one.
00:04:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we knew that coming into the season that he'd be out for, I think they said November is the target, but I haven't heard much on that.
00:04:39
Speaker 7: Do you remember? So, I don't know.
00:04:42
Speaker 5: I mean, again, records don't matter.
00:04:45
Speaker 6: It's points, right?
00:04:46
Speaker 3: Correct.
00:04:47
Speaker 5: So, we're fine right now, right? We're doing okay. We're doing alright, so.
00:04:52
Speaker 4: I don't consider, again, half the teams make postseason play. And then the way they, the playoff seating is just so preposterous. One will play three and then like seven plays eight or how, I don't even know how it works, but it's just ridiculous.
00:05:04
Speaker 6: So it doesn't really matter.
00:05:06
Speaker 4: My guess is as long as Hugh sticks with the club and doesn't demand a trade or, you know, and again, there's.
00:05:13
Speaker 5: Still nothing on that, right? We were, no news is no news. You know, they'll say no news is good news, but in this case, is it?
00:05:22
Speaker 2: And I would argue in this case, no news is bad news. The longer that it goes.
00:05:27
Speaker 1: We can go here.
00:05:30
Speaker 7: Question number two.
00:05:36
Speaker 8: It's now time to take an in-depth look at the welfare of the wolves. Oh, hang on a second.
00:05:46
Speaker 5: What's the problem?
00:05:48
Speaker 1: Do you know where the breaking news sounder is?
00:05:50
Speaker 4: Why did you play Hungry Like a Wolf? Are you taunting me? I'm hungry like common. Why would you do that to me? You're trying to taunt me. Abbott put you up to that, didn't he? We already talked the wolves not long ago.
00:06:01
Speaker 5: What's your breaking news?
00:06:02
Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to pull an audible real quick and use this for questions and answers.
00:06:08
Speaker 8: Question number two.
00:06:11
Speaker 2: I'm just seeing, just breaking now, the college football playoff is nearing a deal.
00:06:16
Speaker 1: This is via ESPN.
00:06:17
Speaker 5: We're not going to go to 32 teams, are we?
00:06:19
Speaker 1: We're going to 24.
00:06:21
Speaker 2: The new format will start in 2027 and is expected to come together in the near future, pending final approvals.
00:06:29
Speaker 1: Let's see. Let's find a good question.
00:06:31
Speaker 4: So Eastern Michigan, Upper Peninsula, Chattanooga Community College now has a chance to make postseason play.
00:06:39
Speaker 1: I'll say this.
00:06:40
Speaker 8: Do you.
00:06:40
Speaker 4: Admonish!
00:06:52
Speaker 5: I already made it perfectly clear many years ago.
00:06:55
Speaker 4: I loved the mythical national champion.
00:06:57
Speaker 5: I wish they still did it that way.
00:06:58
Speaker 4: I do because it's unique. No one else was doing it because at the end of the day, does it really matter? I mean, let's say the national championships played on like what? January 30, you know, 17th, let's say this year game ends.
00:07:11
Speaker 5: Now what?
00:07:13
Speaker 4: Start talking about the next season already. So you win the last game of the season against another club. Okay.
00:07:17
Speaker 5: That's great. Well, what does it prove?
00:07:20
Speaker 4: Anything? I don't know.
00:07:23
Speaker 5: And so it's really no different than having a.
00:07:25
Speaker 6: Bunch of.
00:07:28
Speaker 4: Sports writers voting on who the national champ should be. And now you've got all these teams. I just don't know why we need to have.
00:07:38
Speaker 5: Well, we all know why they do it.
00:07:40
Speaker 4: It's very simple.
00:07:40
Speaker 7: It's money.
00:07:42
Speaker 5: But 24 seems... So how many.
00:07:49
Speaker 4: Games is that then? I'm really bad at math. You know, I was born in Detroit.
00:07:53
Speaker 5: You know, we learned to count Detroit 0 and 1, 0 and 2, 0 and 3.
00:07:58
Speaker 4: And I... Teacher once asked me in second grade, can anybody use the word before in a sentence? And I raised my hand and they said, Dan, I said 2 plus 2 before.
00:08:10
Speaker 5: But so how many games would that be?
00:08:13
Speaker 4: So are they going to make the college football regular season shorter?
00:08:17
Speaker 5: Because right now you play... Is it like 10 or 11 games, right?
00:08:22
Speaker 1: Something like that, yeah.
00:08:23
Speaker 5: And then you also have.
00:08:24
Speaker 4: If you're one of the top two teams in the conference, you play a conference championship game.
00:08:29
Speaker 6: So you add another one there.
00:08:30
Speaker 5: And then if you go to the playoffs, that's going to be four games, right? Am I right? Is it four extra games or three extra games?
00:08:37
Speaker 4: Whatever it is, it's like, well, they're going to have like a 17, 18 game season just like that. Do they ever go to class? How do they get their schoolwork done? Why do we, and really, we're going to make the season that long?
00:08:50
Speaker 1: You think they're doing schoolwork?
00:08:52
Speaker 4: Well, I just don't know why it needs to be that. And again, I know they're not doing it for me.
00:08:57
Speaker 5: And I get it.
00:09:00
Speaker 4: It gives schools like Minnesota. If they keep it, if they, hell, if they kept it at 12, the Govers are never going to qualify for that tournament, right? But if they move it to 24, I guess you got to know, ah, you know what? We'll figure out a way to beat two ranked teams and not lay an egg against the mediocre Boilermakers the following week.
00:09:23
Speaker 5: And so I guess it's hope selling. I was like, you know what? With 24 teams. But then, you know and I know. It's a great song by Dave Mason.
00:09:38
Speaker 4: Of those 24 teams that got invited, realistically, Brett Blackmore, realistically, how many have.
00:09:45
Speaker 5: A chance to win the natty? Probably two or three. Two, three, maybe four. Yeah.
00:09:50
Speaker 4: Maybe five in a good year. It's just, is it called cannon fodder? Look up the phrase cannon fodder and tell me. I think those other teams are just considered cannon fodder.
00:10:05
Speaker 5: It's the same.
00:10:05
Speaker 7: You know what?
00:10:05
Speaker 4: I know it's the same thing in the NCAA tournament for basketball, March madness, same thing of those 64 teams. You know, they have to add those play in games, but let's just say the 64 of those 64 teams, How many have.
00:10:19
Speaker 5: A chance to win the national title, realistically? Half a dozen? Cannon fodder.
00:10:24
Speaker 1: As if we had any doubt how to say that.
00:10:26
Speaker 2: An informal derogatory term for soldiers or combatants who are viewed by military commanders as expendable in the face of enemy fire.
00:10:34
Speaker 5: How sad is that? In the military, it's sad. It's wrong.
00:10:41
Speaker 6: Whoever believes that should be court-martialed. Should be arrested for treason.
00:10:45
Speaker 5: But.
00:10:47
Speaker 4: Same thing, when you use that definition for teams invited to the 24-team NCAA football tournament or the 64-team NCAA basketball tournament, they're just cannon fodder.
00:11:01
Speaker 5: But they're just there to take a beat.
00:11:03
Speaker 4: It's the same thing, and nobody looks at it this way except for me. Paying Bowling Green $ 1. 2 million to play at your place on the first game of the season is no different than fixing games.
00:11:19
Speaker 5: It's no different. It is no, because Bowling Green is not going to win. Bowling Green, so much. Well, I should have gone.
00:11:26
Speaker 4: But you know what I'm saying? 99 of 100 games. So they're taking a payoff for a game that everybody already.
00:11:34
Speaker 5: Knows what the outcome is. It's really kind of sad.
00:11:37
Speaker 4: But if they want to expand it, And I'll apologize if all of a sudden the 22nd or 21st team or even 18th team in wins the national or even gets to the national championship game, puts together three incredible games where they're just slicing and dicing and turning and churning and everything is going their way, but that's just not going to happen.
00:12:00
Speaker 5: It's a waste of time.
00:12:03
Speaker 8: Question number three.
00:12:05
Speaker 5: When will it end?
00:12:06
Speaker 8: It's time now to consider the course.
00:12:11
Speaker 5: Sorry.
00:12:16
Speaker 2: John Rahm has basically agreed to finally get away from live.
00:12:20
Speaker 1: This thing is dead in the water. They're bankrupt.
00:12:24
Speaker 2: Uh, there's people trying to, the DP world tour is denying membership to, to live golfers. Uh, live says they'll know their future by the end of the month. I've been feeling like I've been hearing that all summer long. Common, where do you feel like this live thing is finally going to end? Cause it seems like it's the beginning of the middle.
00:12:41
Speaker 4: Of the, I think, I think, um, Where is Live's headquarters?
00:12:50
Speaker 1: That's a great question.
00:12:51
Speaker 5: Google Live headquarters.
00:12:55
Speaker 2: I guess it would be like London or something.
00:12:58
Speaker 5: Or is it Saudi Arabia?
00:12:59
Speaker 1: Or Saudi. Splitting between New York City and London.
00:13:04
Speaker 5: Okay.
00:13:07
Speaker 4: New York City and London is Live's La Brea target.
00:13:10
Speaker 5: They're going to become extinct. It's over, right?
00:13:12
Speaker 4: No one was watching that garbage anyways. I mean, there were some. But I mean, in the grand scheme of things, nobody was watching that. I don't know.
00:13:22
Speaker 6: And then you wonder, does Rahm come back and play on.
00:13:24
Speaker 4: Tour and how bitter are people? Here's a text message that says, with 24 teams, top eight teams would get a bye. The other 16 would play and winners would get matched up with those eight top teams. Those 16 would then play leaving eight. It would play leaving four. Semis, the final game. So the teams that get a bye would need to play slash win four games to win the championship. The teams that don't get a bye would need to win five games to become champions.
00:14:03
Speaker 5: So that means.
00:14:04
Speaker 4: 11 regular season games. Then your conference championship game makes it 12. And then five, if you're one of the non-buy teams, 17 games.
00:14:19
Speaker 2: Now you're playing the NFL schedule.
00:14:23
Speaker 4: It's a lot of games. It's way too many games. And that's it for today's edition of Five Questions.
00:14:33
Speaker 8: Well, actually, three questions, but five sounds like more than four.
00:14:36
Speaker 5: I'm starting to feel faint. Like I'm weak. I don't know what it is. I'll try to... I'll try to rejuvenate myself and refresh myself during this break. We'll come back. We'll tap dance.
00:14:54
Speaker 4: Oh, by the way, 534 brought to you by our friends at Willow River Company.
00:14:58
Speaker 5: Fall cleanup.
00:15:00
Speaker 4: Also pruning of your trees. They'll blow out your irrigation system. And if you want somebody to remove your snow... During the winter, they do that as well, and they'll even install holiday lights.
00:15:09
Speaker 6: I'm going to get them to do that for me, but don't tell me.
00:15:12
Speaker 5: She's always wanted holiday lights. I tried one time.
00:15:15
Speaker 6: I got up on a ladder. I got those little plastic little clips, you know.
00:15:20
Speaker 4: I literally got one string up one gutter and said, we ain't having no holiday lights.
00:15:25
Speaker 5: It ain't going to happen. She's heartbroken, so maybe we'll do that too.
00:15:29
Speaker 4: About whatever your landscaping needs or your yard care needs, snow blowing or holiday lighting.
00:15:36
Speaker 5: Willow River Company, they're a family-owned operation.
00:15:39

Speaker 8: The Common Man. It was a terrific run.
00:16:01
Speaker 2: He's a legendary name in broadcasting, but it's just, you know, it's not all quite there anymore.
00:16:06
Speaker 8: Weekdays at noon on the fan.
00:16:08
Speaker 5: From the 1-800-ASK-GARY-TRAFFIC-CENTER.
00:16:10
Speaker 8: This report is sponsored by Minnesota Oncology.
00:16:37
Speaker 4: A couple 13, 14 past, I'm common. He's Brett Blakemore, the legendary one. Mark Rose will join us in studio not long from now, about 1.30, and then Deuce will join us via the telephone, the Connecticut Water systems hotline as we bring you.
00:17:04
Speaker 5: Spread swing.
00:17:08
Speaker 1: Still feeling it huh.
00:17:09
Speaker 4: I am still feeling it here's a question um here's um text manager said it's interesting how abbott only gets on common for eating on the air places always bring free food into the morning show i guess because they're so funny or something and they go right ahead and eat it on the air and they don't do it discreetly during five three four like common they'd shoot loudly While talking with a mouthful of food, never heard Abbott.
00:17:34
Speaker 5: Criticize them.
00:17:36
Speaker 1: Well, that's because it's the Power Trip Morning Show.
00:17:41
Speaker 6: Which I guess does explain it. This one says....
00:17:53
Speaker 4: Common, please let Abbott know that his childish demands have caused I decided to participate in the hunger strike to support you, which caused me to get hangry. And I've snapped at a customer. Looks like I'm going to get tomorrow off, too. Plus, who knows how many more days it will take to find a new job in this market. Thanks a lot, Chad. So somebody got fired because of his funny little game. And I think there was one other one I liked a little bit, too.
00:18:23
Speaker 5: There's many of them. There's so many. Oh, this one. I've been a regular listener of The Grum for years.
00:18:28
Speaker 4: I've never heard, let alone been distracted by you eating on the air. But you're... Bor.
00:18:37
Speaker 5: Bor.
00:18:38
Speaker 6: Bor.
00:18:39
Speaker 5: Borigami? B-O... B-O-R... B-O-R-Y-G-M-I.
00:18:48
Speaker 6: Did you look that up? Oh, my gosh.
00:18:51
Speaker 1: This is a real word.
00:18:53
Speaker 5: Borborygmi.
00:18:55
Speaker 8: Borborygmi.
00:18:56
Speaker 5: My borborygmi. Borborygmi.
00:18:59
Speaker 4: I'd like to keep my borborygmi to myself. I wonder if that's near the scrotum.
00:19:03
Speaker 5: Which is elevated today, by the way.
00:19:04
Speaker 7: Oh, good.
00:19:05
Speaker 1: New socks?
00:19:07
Speaker 5: Yes, laundered freshly.
00:19:09
Speaker 1: Good, good, good, good. This word.
00:19:12
Speaker 5: Borborygmi.
00:19:14
Speaker 2: It's the medical term for rumbling, growling, or gurgling sounds made by the stomach and intestines as gas, fluid, and food move through them.
00:19:23
Speaker 5: There you go.
00:19:23
Speaker 4: That's the growling of my stomach. Twins hired a new pitching coach today. Or maybe it was yesterday, but it was announced, I think, today.
00:19:35
Speaker 1: Changes everything.
00:19:37
Speaker 6: Well, that's what I'm about to get to.
00:19:38
Speaker 4: It says, headline, Twins hire Brian Reith from Tampa Bay as new pitching coach. Reith replaces Pete Mackey, was fired after the 2026 season. He spent the past five seasons as pitching coach at Class AAA Durham in the Rays farm system. We have a Class AAA rotation, so that should work out well for him. Twins expect their starting rotation to be a strength in 2027. Now they have a new pitching coach to lead the group. Brian Reith was hired as the Twins pitching coach Wednesday. 48-year-old work in the Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Rays farm system for more than a decade, including the last five seasons as a pitching coach for the class AAA Durham Bulls. During the 2021 season, Reith worked as a fellow on the Rays major league coaching staff with focus on pitching development. Reith's succeed, Pete Mackey, was fired along with assistant pitching coach, Luis Ramirez, from manager Derek Shelton's staff at the end of the season. Mackey had served as the Twins pitching coach since midway through the 2022 season. Looks like Pete Mackey and Ramirez are the fall guys. Everybody's got to have them, as Chris Carter once said. How much of a difference they'll make, the pitching will make, I don't know. To me, it appears they were asking Mackey to make a purse out of a silk. A cow's... Something about... a purse and silk and a cows. You're trying to create something out of nothing. I mean, they decimated last at the trading deadline last year, two seasons ago, they traded everybody in the pitching staff and that, and that's here. Here's what you got to work with Pete. You too, Luis, here's what you got. Plus Lopez was out for the year, right? Joe Ryan was hurt for much of the season as well. So what was Pete Mackey supposed to do? And I'm not an apologist for Pete Mackey. I've never met Pete Mackey. I don't know where he's been. Well, I know where he's been. I don't know where he's going now that he doesn't have a job. He'll probably get hired on somewhere. You know, baseball lifer, I would guess. But I just find it just, it's, it's, and you know, there are things we don't know that are.
00:21:54
Speaker 6: Not made public.
00:21:55
Speaker 4: We don't know what that's like in that, in that dugout and in that locker room and in that bullpen. And if maybe people didn't like Pete Mackey's approach, or Luis.
00:22:03
Speaker 6: Ramirez, but.
00:22:09
Speaker 4: He didn't have much to work with. They traded everybody last year. Louis Barland, Duran, right?
00:22:20
Speaker 5: The closer. Griffin Jacks. Yeah, Griffin Jacks.
00:22:22
Speaker 4: I mean, there were quality arms that they just let go by the wayside, just like that. They're just gone.
00:22:29
Speaker 5: This is not going very well for me.
00:22:33
Speaker 1: You're going to make it?
00:22:34
Speaker 5: I don't know if I'm going to make it. I don't think I can make it.
00:22:36
Speaker 1: They said you can't do it.
00:22:37
Speaker 5: And you know what? I don't think I can.
00:22:38
Speaker 7: And you know what?
00:22:39
Speaker 6: I don't care what they say.
00:22:40
Speaker 5: I'm done with this.
00:22:40
Speaker 6: I'm taking the day off tomorrow, and I'm going to have something to eat.
00:22:43
Speaker 5: Oh, my God.
00:22:44
Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
00:22:45
Speaker 5: I've never seen someone eat that fast.
00:22:49
Speaker 7: Oh, my God.
00:23:01
Speaker 2: The common man.
00:23:16
Speaker 3: I couldn't stop wiping away tears because I thought it was such a brilliant 35-minute setup for just one joke. And I, like, tip of the cap, I wish I could have given him money. Like, I was so in awe of, like, the joke. I'm like, God dang it, this guy's a genius.
00:23:33
Speaker 8: Weekdays at noon on The Fan.
00:23:45
Speaker 7: Spread swing.
00:23:47
Speaker 4: Well, actually, there was supposed to be some build-up music, but Tenabee didn't leave you with any instructions at all.
00:23:52
Speaker 7: Gave me nothing.
00:23:52
Speaker 1: That's all he got.
00:23:53
Speaker 4: You know, it's honest guys that got, you know, and he wonders why he's in a room. Because we have that first bit of music that goes, and we play that as I talk it up, and then we go, it's time now for, and then.
00:24:06
Speaker 5: We hit that.
00:24:06
Speaker 8: Right.
00:24:07
Speaker 4: But Tenabee doesn't explain any of that, doesn't tell him where to get the odds. Did he give you any of the statistics of what happened last week?
00:24:12
Speaker 1: I got nothing.
00:24:13
Speaker 5: Well, I assume you would have taken over the mantle and run and done all the research. That's what a producer's for. Well, not when you know he's got a town. No, the producer then should tell the producer this is what we need to do. He didn't do it. He dropped the ball. That's what I'm saying. So are we done with the segment or what?
00:24:28
Speaker 6: Well, no, but I'm just saying it's just not.
00:24:30
Speaker 5: I don't find that. We do text that he wanted to. I actually had a sheet of last week's picks and I sent him a photo of it. So at least he has that.
00:24:41
Speaker 7: Well, anyway.
00:24:41
Speaker 5: Well, there we go.
00:24:42
Speaker 8: Well.
00:24:44
Speaker 5: That was fun.
00:24:45
Speaker 6: So here we are, I guess, ready to start over here.
00:24:48
Speaker 7: You know, we don't even.
00:24:49
Speaker 4: The show, the program generally doesn't even really have very many.
00:24:53
Speaker 5: What's the word.
00:24:55
Speaker 6: I'm looking for?
00:24:56
Speaker 5: You know.
00:24:58
Speaker 5: Bits.
00:24:59
Speaker 4: Well, no, it has bits, but it has highly produced bits.
00:25:04
Speaker 6: Where there's sound effects.
00:25:05
Speaker 5: Right.
00:25:06
Speaker 4: And so we have one that we do once a week, and Tenebee can't even pass along the information to the interim producer.
00:25:12
Speaker 1: Boy, what a nice.
00:25:13
Speaker 5: Just left you out on an island.
00:25:14
Speaker 4: You know, maybe what it is is he's concerned your performance could be so good that there might not be a job waiting for him when he returns.
00:25:25
Speaker 5: Radio silence for Tenet. It's time for Spread Swing. I'm Common.
00:25:32
Speaker 4: He's the legendary Mark Rosen. Brett Blakemore in for Tenet B. And then my firstborn. He's not in studio today. He's joining us courtesy of the Connecticut Water Systems Hotline.
00:25:44
Speaker 5: Deuce, how are you, me boy? Getting by.
00:25:47
Speaker 9: And I'm taking over the interim for the interim for the interim producer. I sent Blake Moore at least the results from last week. Or I didn't send him necessarily the results, but I sent him the picks. I know that myself and Rosie both took meetings.
00:26:05
Speaker 4: Let me ask you a question. How did you send them to him? By Pony Express or carrier pigeon? Because I don't think he got them.
00:26:12
Speaker 9: Well, my phone may as well be a carrier pigeon. It's been on the fritz lately. I've got to hit up Verizon and get myself a new phone. I sent them over to Blakemore, so he has last week's picks.
00:26:24
Speaker 5: I've got last week's picks in front of me. I just don't have the results of all of them. Yeah, I don't know who I took.
00:26:29
Speaker 6: I mean, I know I took the Kitties, and I don't remember who.
00:26:31
Speaker 5: Who did I take on my second game?
00:26:32
Speaker 1: You took Cleveland.
00:26:34
Speaker 5: And they got killed, right? By the Jets?
00:26:36
Speaker 4: Or just got beat by the Jets. But the Lions destroyed the Cardinals. So I don't know where I stand. Now we don't know who goes first.
00:26:45
Speaker 5: That's important.
00:26:47
Speaker 9: I got a feeling that I'll be first up because I took the Atlanta Falcons and stumbled down. And they were favored by three. They lose by seven. That's 10 times two is 20. So I'm in the hole 20 points. I only picked up about two and a half from my Denver game, so I would wager I'm in last. But, Rosie, you took the Chicago Bears.
00:27:15
Speaker 5: Well, I got smoked on that one. How much did the Bears lose by? Oh, man, I don't know, 30 or something.
00:27:22
Speaker 1: You take 20 or something.
00:27:26
Speaker 5: I got back because I took New England. I took New England over Vegas, and they throttled the Raiders. So I pretty much broke even on both of those. So I don't know. Yeah, the Bears were.
00:27:40
Speaker 4: I lost a handful of points for the Browns game, but I don't know what I gained for Detroit. They were a five-and-a-half-point favorite. They won 41 or something, 45-17. So I picked up a nice amount of points there.
00:27:52
Speaker 5: And then Deuce, how did you do again?
00:27:55
Speaker 9: Minus. So I lost 20 and then I gained about two and a half, I think. So I lost 17 and a half points.
00:28:04
Speaker 5: Then what about Tenabee? Do you have any idea?
00:28:06
Speaker 9: Uh, he, Tenabee had Cincy and, and, uh, he took the other side of Baltimore. We went head to head and well, he fared just a tad bit better than I did.
00:28:17
Speaker 5: Very good.
00:28:17
Speaker 4: Well, then I don't know where we, um, I don't even know where we start. I don't know what the standings are. This is, um, Well, when a guy goes on vacation, he really.
00:28:26
Speaker 5: Goes on vacation.
00:28:27
Speaker 9: I would guess that I'm first, and I just feel it's appropriate since that's my typical spot.
00:28:33
Speaker 5: Yeah, probably. I think so.
00:28:36
Speaker 2: And also, I messaged Tenabee. I said, do you want to give me your picks for Spreadswing?
00:28:40
Speaker 5: Nothing.
00:28:41
Speaker 1: Radio silence.
00:28:42
Speaker 5: Well, he's another one of those guys. And this is okay. Everybody does it different.
00:28:45
Speaker 4: But there are people when they're not on the clock and they're on vacation, they don't respond or they're out.
00:28:50
Speaker 6: They're checked out.
00:28:51
Speaker 4: And I tell my clients, I say, you can call or text me 24-7.
00:28:55
Speaker 6: It doesn't matter. I'm always on the clock.
00:28:58
Speaker 5: I just am.
00:28:59
Speaker 4: I mean, because I don't know what you're... If something important... We need to have your pics for Spreadswing.
00:29:05
Speaker 5: I don't know where he is on vacation, and I don't even care. In Antarctica or something?
00:29:07
Speaker 4: Maybe he's in Antarctica, but he could have certainly contacted us, but I guess.
00:29:12
Speaker 5: So then the question becomes.
00:29:14
Speaker 4: Does he just not get picks this week, or do we let the interim for the interim make the picks?
00:29:18
Speaker 5: And I think we let the interim for the interim make the picks. I think we're all in agreement on that.
00:29:21
Speaker 6: And I hope you make two really awful picks.
00:29:24
Speaker 2: Maybe I will intentionally, just for not giving me anything to work with.
00:29:28
Speaker 7: So let's go ahead.
00:29:28
Speaker 5: Let's play Spread Swing.
00:29:30
Speaker 7: Spread Swing. Spread Swing.
00:29:35
Speaker 1: Rosie, you writing these down?
00:29:36
Speaker 5: I can, yeah.
00:29:37
Speaker 7: Okay, good.
00:29:38
Speaker 5: Are you still okay? suppose I could. It is my show.
00:29:42
Speaker 9: And I'll get everything written down, too. And maybe as the workday wraps up for me, I can... compute the stand-ins just to let people know where we're at and dad i made that twitter account i'll tweet out all of our pics and get everything posted somewhere you can retweet it and we'll get the buzz going on digital digital digital wait.
00:30:00
Speaker 4: Wait a minute you mean we've we've gotten to the point where we're actually we have a twitter account for spread swing wow.
00:30:07
Speaker 9: I just i well i i made one the other day just because i figure i can post results for it there makes it easier for folks to you know so in other words.
00:30:17
Speaker 4: It wasn't mandated by the company that said this is a really great bit we ought to do this it was just you taking matters into your own hands which is all right by me i like that i like your correct work ethic i like your work ethic it's it's you're a lot like your.
00:30:28
Speaker 9: Father Somebody's got to keep the common man program afloat. It's up to Blake more and me now to keep.
00:30:33
Speaker 1: This ship sailing.
00:30:35
Speaker 9: And if it's Gerald, he abandoned ship and he didn't go down with the ship by any means. So I'll kick things off with my first pick. I think I'm getting a bargain because the Jacksonville Jaguars are staying in their second home of London, England. to take on the Houston Texans. And the Texans just picked up a win last week against the Tennessee Titans, but that really doesn't even count the Titans. They may as well be in Toronto. They're a CFL caliber team. They're awful. And the Texans have been wildly inconsistent. The Jags sneakily have a pretty good club on their hands, especially with our offense. They pulled off a miracle win against Philly. I think they're going to be riding high off of that. I don't sense an emotional hangover. I sense a fired-up Jacksonville squad that's going to destroy Houston. I'll take the Jags minus two and a half.
00:31:32
Speaker 4: Well, and I think the Texans, too. I think they're just happy to not. You know, I think they were thinking, well, we have an opportunity to go 117, and they don't want that hanging over them.
00:31:39
Speaker 5: So they got their one win, and now they're going to mail in the rest of the season.
00:31:42
Speaker 6: So I think you made a very good pick.
00:31:46
Speaker 1: Spread swing. I'd imagine so.
00:31:50
Speaker 4: All right, I'll go. And I'm going to jump all over the Jalen Hurts news. Jalen Hurts out with the blood clot, will not play. I will take the Panthers. I think I would have taken the Panthers anyways. The Eagles just have been wildly inconsistent this year. I think they're a bit on the overrated side. And so I'm going to take the Panthers. I'm giving up, is it three and a half points?
00:32:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, it just shows you the effect of Jalen Hurts being out with what they call superficial blood clot.
00:32:17
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:32:17
Speaker 5: That doesn't sound fun.
00:32:19
Speaker 4: So I will take the Panthers. I'll give the three and a half points. And, you know, I guess because.
00:32:27
Speaker 5: It is a feline. You're a feline.
00:32:31
Speaker 4: Mascot, I'll play a little Year of the Cat. So I think it's the Year of the Cat. I will take the Panthers and give up the three and one half points.
00:32:40
Speaker 7: Spread swing.
00:32:44
Speaker 5: Was he insane in first place? He must be, because he bought Brokeven. Yeah, I did pretty much break it.
00:32:49
Speaker 4: So let's go with Tennebee as pick number three, which is now Replay.
00:32:54
Speaker 5: Oh, good.
00:32:55
Speaker 1: Guys, we're back.
00:32:56
Speaker 5: Oh, boy.
00:32:57
Speaker 2: Green Bay is hosting the very bad Dallas Cowboys.
00:33:00
Speaker 4: I'd like to reconsider my decision and allow you to make picks today.
00:33:04
Speaker 6: I should have seen this coming.
00:33:06
Speaker 2: Green Bay is home favorites, one and a half points. That's nothing. This defense for Dallas is terrible. They just lost to an undrafted backup rookie quarterback. I like Green Bay at home to continue the momentum against a not great football team.
00:33:23
Speaker 5: I think that is a good pick.
00:33:24
Speaker 6: As much as I hate to say it, I think Green Bay rules in that game.
00:33:27
Speaker 4: Thank you.
00:33:29
Speaker 7: Spread swing.
00:33:37
Speaker 5: The Vikings, with their bye week, will be able to do some advanced scouting on their next week's opponent here at U.S. Bank at noon. We finally have a noon game at home. How about that? And it's the inconsistent but still talented Indianapolis Colts team. But as Deuce said, it's not so much that the Colts are a juggernaut. It's who they're playing. And they're playing a Titans team that is getting worse by the week. Uh, I know the Colts are favored by seven, which is a lot of points, but they are at home, but they're at home and the Titans. I mean, I, I mean, they're already checking out next year's draft picks, top draft picks. They're just, they're awful.
00:34:17
Speaker 4: Maybe they're going to try to circle the wagons and win one. You know, that's what I think Houston did. They just, we don't want to be a team that goes winless.
00:34:23
Speaker 5: Oh, I don't, I don't think they do. I think the players always have, you know, I'm on a pride, but I just think in the, uh, At home, they need to win.
00:34:31
Speaker 4: I call it a trap game, but you do what you need to do.
00:34:35
Speaker 5: I will, thank you.
00:34:36
Speaker 6: He will take the Colts.
00:34:38
Speaker 7: Spread swing.
00:34:47
Speaker 9: Well, my next selection is going to be a pretty boring pick for what I anticipate will be a pretty boring game. The San Francisco 49ers. one of three unbeaten teams in the national football league. They play Washington and apparently they can't even keep track of time on the clock and spike it to try and kick a game winning field goal in overtime. That team is a mess and the Niners are red hot. I really like how the San Francisco squads playing Brock Purdy is an absolute monster. Give me the Niners. I know I have to give up a touchdown seven points. I believe the spread, but I like San Francisco.
00:35:26
Speaker 5: You like him even though you're good, but a tutty and a half or a tutty.
00:35:29
Speaker 9: I like him, and I've only seen him play for a few minutes at a time this season. I really don't know anything about them, but I'll admit that.
00:35:37
Speaker 2: I'll admit that.
00:35:37
Speaker 9: I'm like Mr. Rose sitting in the studio.
00:35:40
Speaker 5: Wow, you got a cheap shot of my deuce again. From all angles. He's a child.
00:35:46
Speaker 6: Yeah, he is a child.
00:35:47
Speaker 5: I remember his voice was cracking just a couple years ago.
00:35:51
Speaker 6: Now, what do you think?
00:35:52
Speaker 2: Who are the 49ers?
00:35:54
Speaker 5: They're playing the Saints, right? No, who are they playing?
00:35:57
Speaker 1: The Commanders.
00:35:58
Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
00:36:00
Speaker 4: Got it.
00:36:00
Speaker 9: The Commanders are hideous.
00:36:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, they're not very good. The Quincy, that was a bad.
00:36:05
Speaker 4: It was a comedy of errors for Washington at the end of that game.
00:36:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, that was embarrassing.
00:36:12
Speaker 4: Yep.
00:36:13
Speaker 7: Spread swing.
00:36:20
Speaker 4: I'm on the Giants bandwagon, the New York football Giants. They are 3-1-1. You know, and again, it's that whole entire, even the overtime, the Giants didn't do very well, obviously. The whole last quarter. quarter, and overtime were not good.
00:36:37
Speaker 5: But the Saints, terrible team.
00:36:39
Speaker 4: And I was giving the Saints the benefit of the doubt after they rallied to almost beat Detroit, and then they pulled off a win somewhere along the way.
00:36:46
Speaker 6: And they were in the game with the Vikings, but.
00:36:51
Speaker 5: For no other reason than it's only a point and a half. I have to give up.
00:36:54
Speaker 4: I'll take the New York football Giants at home against the New Orleans Saints.
00:36:58
Speaker 1: They're home dogs, too.
00:36:59
Speaker 5: Home dogs. You're getting points.
00:37:01
Speaker 7: Oh, really?
00:37:02
Speaker 1: You're getting the Saints are favored by a point and a half.
00:37:05
Speaker 5: The Saints are favored?
00:37:06
Speaker 4: Yep.
00:37:07
Speaker 5: Oh, I should have doubled down on this one, but I'm not going to. You could. No, but I'm not going to.
00:37:12
Speaker 7: Spread swing.
00:37:20
Speaker 2: Great win on the West Coast a couple days ago. And now they're going returning to the western side of the U.S. Take on the Raiders who seem like they might be in free fall. It's only five and a half points favored are the Bills. All they got to do is win by a touchdown. They don't have to blow them out. I like Josh Allen. On the road doesn't matter to me. Give me the Bills favored by five and a half points against the Raiders.
00:37:43
Speaker 7: The Raiders. Spread swing.
00:37:48
Speaker 4: Oh, man.
00:37:49
Speaker 5: They just stayed out there. I'm tempted to take Dallas against Green Bay.
00:37:59
Speaker 4: Why don't you do it and double down?
00:38:03
Speaker 7: Go head-to-head.
00:38:04
Speaker 5: Go head-to-head with Blakemore.
00:38:06
Speaker 1: Did you watch the game Sunday?
00:38:08
Speaker 6: Blakemore slash Tenabee.
00:38:10
Speaker 5: No, I did not. He's taunting you over there.
00:38:13
Speaker 1: Look at him.
00:38:14
Speaker 5: Go after him. I'm leaning towards the Tampa Bay. Don't back down. He's taunting you over there, the young kid. I know. Tampa Bay. Take the Cowboys. Over Pittsburgh. But I think it would be a lot more fun. One heck of a lot more fun if they go head-to-head against Blake Moore. Yes, take the Cowboys. That's what I'm talking about. Jerry Jones is spitting bullets right now. I can't imagine the Packers playing two really good games in a row. I can't either. The Dallas Cowboys, them boys are coming back. You like them. Not really, but I'm just going to have fun with it. Very good. So we'll take Dallas against, is that Monday night? Sunday night.
00:38:54
Speaker 1: Sunday night, okay.
00:38:56
Speaker 5: We're waiting all day for Sunday night. We're waiting all day.
00:38:58
Speaker 4: All right.
00:38:59
Speaker 7: Spread swing.
00:39:01
Speaker 5: So there you go.
00:39:01
Speaker 7: We're here.
00:39:02
Speaker 5: Spread swing results. And again, did anybody write them down? Because we like to recap them because there's so many.
00:39:07
Speaker 4: People that are paying attention at home. I wrote them down.
00:39:11
Speaker 9: I can recant them if you would like me to.
00:39:14
Speaker 5: Yes.
00:39:15
Speaker 9: So I took Jacksonville minus two and a half. I also took the San Francisco 49ers minus seven. Pops, you took the Panthers minus three and a half in the New York football giants. Plus one and a half.
00:39:29
Speaker 5: I love my pick.
00:39:30
Speaker 9: Kenna slash Brett Blakemore took the green Bay Packers minus one and a half. and the Buffalo Bills minus five and a half. Rosie, you took the Colts minus seven and the Dallas Cowboys plus one and a half. And this is why I love spread swing. I had zero interest in Packers Cowboys on Sunday night, but now due to these picks, I'm sorry, Blake Moore, but I'll be rooting for the Cowboys for the first time in my entire life. How about them Cowboys?
00:40:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, how about them Cowboys? NFC is number one. That'll be entertaining. Like 45 to 40.
00:40:08
Speaker 4: Deuce, do you have soccer tonight or volleyball?
00:40:13
Speaker 5: What do you have tonight?
00:40:14
Speaker 9: Lakeville South versus Farmington. Section semifinal soccer collision.
00:40:20
Speaker 8: It's going to be.
00:40:22
Speaker 5: Is that boys or girls?
00:40:24
Speaker 9: It's girls. And then next week, I got two football games, Chanhassen and Rochester Mayo at the New Winter Park on Wednesday night and on Friday. And on Friday night, Lakeville North going head-to-head with Shakopee. Shakopee was one of the best teams in the state, just suffered an upset defeat. So it'll be interesting to see if they can bounce back.
00:40:43
Speaker 5: I know you follow, but wasn't there a No. 1 against No. 2 last night with MEA Week? They played, obviously, a lot of games last night, most of the games last night. And I thought there were some. You didn't pay attention.
00:40:54
Speaker 9: There very well could have been. I know that Moorhead is... by far and away regarded as the number one team in the state. I'm not sure if they played last night.
00:41:02
Speaker 5: Deuce is laser focused on all of the games in front of him. I understand. Next week, you're at TCL?
00:41:10
Speaker 9: I'll rack that next Wednesday.
00:41:12
Speaker 5: That's in my neighborhood.
00:41:14
Speaker 4: Maybe I might come on over, make a guest appearance as an A. You know, they'll do that every once in a while when there's a celebrity out in the crowd. They'll bring him into the booth to ask him a few questions. I mean, if game time will have me, maybe they want nothing to do with me. I don't want to step on your touchdown call as a....
00:41:31
Speaker 9: Well, I'll have to take it up with Logan, but it's pretty intense over at Game Time Minnesota. They run a pretty tight ship, and not just everybody can hop on the microphone there. Maybe that's how it works at Cape.
00:41:43
Speaker 5: They don't have a credential.
00:41:43
Speaker 9: They've been giving you that show for about 25, 30 years. But I don't know if Game Time works that way.
00:41:48
Speaker 5: Yeah, you're probably right.
00:41:49
Speaker 6: They're a professional organization over there compared to us, that's for sure.
00:41:53
Speaker 4: We're thinking about maybe you and your gal, Pete and his gal, your mom and dad, maybe a little brunch on Sunday before Pete goes back to Columbus.
00:42:04
Speaker 5: Are you in on the loop on that? Hello? He's gone.
00:42:10
Speaker 7: Deuce. Deuce.
00:42:14
Speaker 4: I guess that answers that. No interest in that. Put his phone on mute or I'm I didn't put them on hold.
00:42:22
Speaker 5: No, you didn't. No, it just disappeared.
00:42:24
Speaker 4: Later. We're thinking maybe doing a little brunch thing, getting us together before baby brother Peter goes back to the.
00:42:34
Speaker 5: Baby brother Peter's excited. It's Ohio State at Indiana. Right. Big matchup. Yeah, that's... Heavyweight.
00:42:44
Speaker 4: I don't know if either one of those teams are as good as they were last year, but they're both still some of the cream of the crop at the Big Ten and in NCAA football.
00:42:53
Speaker 5: That's Spread Swing. We'll take a break. We'll come back. Hour to go. Mark Rosen's last show of the week. We'll be back after this here on The Fan.
00:43:02
Speaker 8: The Common Man.
00:43:03
Speaker 5: I thought you were at that sports bar.
00:43:06
Speaker 6: Well, that place was for diehard sports fans, not.
00:43:09
Speaker 4: Guys like me who are only fans when their team makes the playoffs.
00:43:13
Speaker 8: Weekdays at noon on The Fan.
00:43:16
Speaker 5: From the 1-800-ASK-GARY-TRAFFIC-CENTER.
00:43:19
Speaker 8: This report is sponsored by Newgate School. Changes lives for over 45 years.
00:43:23
Speaker 10: 94-694 Westbound stop and go. Hemlock Lane to Fish Lake Interchange. 94 Eastbound near 35E.
00:43:29
Speaker 5: A crash.
00:43:30
Speaker 10: Two right lanes blocked. It's stopped from Dale. Lowry Hill Tunnel to 35E.
00:43:34
Speaker 5: 39 minutes. Stop and go.
00:43:35
Speaker 10: Crosstown Highway Eastbound. 35W to Bloomington Avenue. 35E Southbound Randolph to Shepherd with road work. I'm Tom Beck and that's your latest total traffic.
00:43:44
Speaker 8: Newgate School turns donated.
00:15:39
Speaker 4: They treat you like family, so come and join the family. So willowrivercompany.com. That's willowrivercompany.com. Keyword from Brett Blakemore.

Speaker 2: Yes, the fan, two men, and a truck want to give you a shot to win bonus bucks to our national cash contest at kfan.com. The keyword is win. The keyword is win, kfan.com. Keyword win.
00:15:58
