00:00:37.089 --> 00:00:56.609
When I think about today's leader in coaching and coaching the team and thinking about all of the things that people need to do to coach their teams from individual needs to the team collectively working together, to the team performing and hitting metrics and OKRs and KPIs.
00:00:57.170 --> 00:00:59.170
Leaders have never had it more difficult.
00:00:59.250 --> 00:01:01.649
And I hear it every single day.
00:01:01.969 --> 00:01:09.490
The Gallup organization reports that we have the lowest engagement scores worldwide and in the United States than I think we've ever had.
00:01:09.569 --> 00:01:11.090
I think it's below 20%.
00:01:12.530 --> 00:01:16.930
Leadership used to be the goal, it used to be the destination for people.
00:01:17.090 --> 00:01:18.530
That's changing.
00:01:18.769 --> 00:01:24.289
Yet at the same time, we know we need to develop high-performing, cohesive teams.
00:01:24.449 --> 00:01:26.129
Now AI comes into play.
00:01:26.210 --> 00:01:27.729
Look what's happening.
00:01:27.969 --> 00:01:30.930
There's massive pace, massive change.
00:01:31.409 --> 00:01:33.090
How do we coach to that?
00:01:33.569 --> 00:01:41.409
How do we coach people and their careers when we have so many things on our plates to accomplish and to achieve?
00:01:41.889 --> 00:01:48.370
So during this podcast episode, I'm going to talk about two main things: the team operating system.
00:01:48.770 --> 00:01:56.050
The team operating system is a co-authoring coaching strategy where people actually decide how are we going to operate together?
00:01:56.289 --> 00:02:04.770
And then the second element is something called the four C's of teamwork: connect, commonality, collaboration, and conflict.
00:02:05.090 --> 00:02:16.210
Now, the team operating system is a methodology where leaders sit down and typically at the start of the year or the start of the quarter and say, how do we want to operate together?
00:02:16.449 --> 00:02:20.609
And the formula is very, very simple, but it takes time to develop.
00:02:20.849 --> 00:02:27.409
Number one, the ideal team is you fill in the blank by doing what?
00:02:27.569 --> 00:02:30.210
And you list out the attributes and actions.
00:02:31.009 --> 00:02:37.650
And then number two, the team of the four C's is getting people connected.
00:02:38.689 --> 00:02:40.370
We really know each other.
00:02:40.689 --> 00:02:43.009
Number two, finding out what we have in common.
00:02:43.250 --> 00:02:49.250
See, here's the amazing thing teamwork isn't just inside the team, it can also be cross-departmental.
00:02:49.729 --> 00:02:57.250
So when we have connection, commonality, and then when we discuss collaboration, like how do you like to work with people?
00:02:57.650 --> 00:02:59.489
And people say, Well, what do you mean?
00:02:59.569 --> 00:03:01.090
How do you like to work with people?
00:03:01.329 --> 00:03:03.889
See, personally, I like to work on my own.
00:03:04.129 --> 00:03:06.929
People think because I'm into coaching, I love working with people.
00:03:07.090 --> 00:03:08.530
I love working with clients.
00:03:08.689 --> 00:03:10.689
I did not like working with employees.
00:03:10.849 --> 00:03:11.650
It's their fault.
00:03:11.729 --> 00:03:14.929
It's just something I personally prefer to work on my own.
00:03:15.169 --> 00:03:18.209
Some people are independently motivated to work.
00:03:18.449 --> 00:03:21.810
Some want to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
00:03:21.969 --> 00:03:23.409
Not everybody does.
00:03:23.650 --> 00:03:28.689
And then number four, what is your relationship with conflict?
00:03:29.009 --> 00:03:30.689
See, here's the challenge.
00:03:30.929 --> 00:03:34.769
When we don't have connection, we don't establish what we have in common.
00:03:35.009 --> 00:03:46.049
If I don't understand how you like to work, and then all of a sudden, if we have a disagreement or something comes up where there's conflict, conflict becomes much bigger than what it really does.
00:03:46.370 --> 00:03:59.250
What we have found, and I'm going to make this as a bold statement, when we implement the four C's of teamwork, conflict dramatically decreases by as much as 80%, if not more.
00:03:59.810 --> 00:04:04.370
It absolutely can eradicate it, completely get rid of it.
00:04:05.250 --> 00:04:07.810
Now, there's a methodology for all these things.
00:04:07.969 --> 00:04:09.889
So think about your teams.
00:04:10.049 --> 00:04:12.289
Think if they had an operating system.
00:04:12.530 --> 00:04:15.169
See, most of the time we think, well, that's the job.
00:04:15.329 --> 00:04:16.449
You got to do your job.
00:04:16.530 --> 00:04:18.610
That's not a team working well together.
00:04:18.689 --> 00:04:21.889
That's people performing individual job tasks.
00:04:22.530 --> 00:04:23.410
So check it out.
00:04:23.569 --> 00:04:27.009
Let us know if you'd like to hear more information about the team operating system.
