ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In the first regular-season episode of The Bat Boy, I’ll recap an eventful Opening Weekend, highlighting the debut of the automated balls and strikes (ABS) challenge system—citing key moments involving Jose Caballero, Eugenio Suárez, CB Bucknor, and a Yankees-Mariners game that sparked Aaron Boone’s frustration—and argues the rule changes are making baseball more watchable. I’ll discuss the extraordinary early-season pitching, listing numerous starters who opened with shutout starts, and notes five opening-series sweeps. The episode spotlights standout rookies including Kevin McGonigle, JJ Wetherholt, Chase DeLauter, and Carson Benge, plus early surprises like the Nationals’ hot offense and the Marlins’ sweep. I also cover Toronto’s walk-offs and Cody Ponce’s ACL strain. A new Yankees segment, “Bronx Tales,” reviews New York’s dominant pitching, Stanton’s hot start, Judge’s early struggles, and bullpen concerns.
