ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In this compelling episode of The Tippy Jo Show, Tippy sits down with Roger Roots, the attorney from John Pierce Law representing Joe Maldonado—better known as Joe Exotic, the national celebrity and tiger breeder featured in Tiger King. Roger gives us an in-depth look into Joe Exotic’s ongoing legal battle, the recent 2024 appeal, and the surprising new evidence that could shake the foundation of Joe’s original charges.
Throughout the interview, Roger explains the critical developments in Joe Exotic’s case. He discusses key charges, including two counts of murder-for-hire and wildlife violations, and reveals why the evidence behind these allegations might not be as strong as originally portrayed. New witness recantations, undisclosed cell phone texts, and previously unreleased recordings could all play a pivotal role in Joe Exotic’s appeal at the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. Roger and Tippy delve into the challenges of overcoming lower court inertia and highlight the alleged prosecutorial oversights (Brady violations) that have affected Joe’s legal journey.
Beyond the legal arguments, Roger shares insights on Joe’s life during incarceration, his potential plans for rebuilding his career, and the possibility of civil action in response to his portrayal in the Tiger King documentary. Roger also reveals Joe Exotic’s surprising passion for tiger genetics and his hope to someday lecture on wildlife preservation and the criminal justice system.
Stay tuned for an inside look at Joe Exotic's legal fight, his enduring spirit, and what the future may hold for this unforgettable figure.
