ABOUT THIS EPISODE
She did everything right — the safe degree, the internships, the honor roll — and she's sent 300 applications for an entry-level job that, five years ago, would have called her.
In this episode, Keith Koo makes the case that we've gotten brilliant at multiplying output and nearly forgotten how to multiply people. The first rung of the career ladder — the job where a young person used to go to get built — is being quietly automated away. Stanford's Digital Economy Lab found a roughly 16% relative drop in employment for workers aged 22–25 in AI-exposed jobs, hitting the youngest hardest, while a generation openly says it's starving for mentors (about 83% of Gen Z want one; only half have one). The market decided people weren't worth the slow investment, right as the people started raising their hands.
The deeper turn is a question for every marketplace leader: multiplying output is exactly what machines now do best — and multiplying people is the one thing they can't. You can scale information. You cannot scale a self. Drawing on 30 years inside Fortune 100 tech and global banking — and on the mentors who built him — Keith argues that formation can't be downloaded; it has to be handed over, in person, at cost. From a God who "came near" rather than scaling from a distance, to the craftsmen behind the Pyramids, to why we're all made Imago Dei as genuinely creative beings, he lands on a charge: stop trying to be indispensable. Make yourself multipliable.

In this episode
- Why the entry-level rung is measurably collapsing — and why that rung was the economy's training system.
- The two facts side by side: the market stopped investing in people at the exact moment the people started begging to be built.
- Output vs. people — "you can scale information; you cannot scale a self."
- Why God "came near" instead of scaling salvation from a distance — and what that says about what people are worth (John 1:14).
- Paul's four-generation chain of multiplication in one verse (2 Timothy 2:2) — and the weight of the word entrust.
- Why we avoid it: building people is slow, costly, and quietly threatening — the fear behind the buried talent (Matthew 25).
- Formation costs you yourself — it cost God himself (1 Thessalonians 2:8; Philippians 2).
- The China/Japan robots story, the GM metal miller, and the Pyramids — why humans remain the ones who transfer judgment, and why we're made Imago Dei, genuinely creative, while the machines replicate.
