ABOUT THIS EPISODE
We're heading out to the ballpark today with an old friend that I met during my 1st year of coaching at Fort Bend Clements. His specialty is on the diamond, but don't let him fool you, he can make it rain from behind the arc! He is now the National Director for Alliance Fastpitch softball - welcome David McCorkle to the show! - Growing up in the Sooner State: in Broken Arrow until he was 15 and then finishing up in Guthrie, Oklahoma. I actually won free beer for the rest of the night at trivia with the fact that Guthrie was the original state capitol of Oklahoma, and Coach verifies that with his memories of the old state house and everything! - Playing for a dad that taught him real quick to always give his best effort and to not argue with umps, even if it meant dragging him off by his ear and sitting him on the bench for the rest of the day! Playing 4 sports at Guthrie HS and how soccer may have even been his best sport. - Coach gives some great insight on the unique dynamics between slow pitch and fast pitch softball, club and high school softball, and how he built a coalition of all the girls' sport coaches at Fort Bend Clements. - David describes the many hats he wears as National Director for the Alliance as well as diving into questions surrounding "participation trophy culture", left handed batters and slap hitting, and managing your pitching staff. - Finally as a man who has coached some seriously talented teams throughout his career we are treated to the official Coach David McCorkle all-time softball Mt. Rushmore! Join the Team Player Revolution! The biggest help is to leave a 5-star rating.
