Audio: What's up and welcome to the Sweaters Podcast, the show where Three Sisters dive into the movies and TV shows we can't stop talking about. I'm your host, Lindsay Miles, and joining me as always is Lacey, Alani, and Lisa. All three of us together. All the sisters. Hello. And we're c we're covering practical magics one and two today. and so we wanted Lise to join us because we all just thought sisters. We all just saw the second one. And we liked it. Like everyone's being really dumb, really lame about it. I agree. But we'll get there. So there's some news and trailers from this week. the trailer for Artificial. Did you guys watch that with Andrew Garfield? yeah. I'm excited for that. It was actually like There is a so social network sequel that is coming out, but this feels like the actual successor to the social network 'cause it's about AI being evil and Sam Altman being a real The actual antichrist. A real piece of work. So I'm excited for that. And Andrew Garfield's in both movies, which is kind of funny. anyway. And then there's a did you watch the trailer for You Can See Everything? Which one was the hat? The one about Elizabeth Holmes. Did you guys watch the documentary? Okay, so Elizabeth Holmes is like a tech she was a tech startup. She she's in jail currently. She like defrauded investors and said she had this little thing that could test your blood in like with one pinprick of blood. Yes, yes, yes. She had a company called Theranos and she put things in Walgreens and faked blood tests for patients and people were didn't I can't remember if anyone died. But anyway, she completely defrauded people. I think it had something to do with cancer. Like she could hear cancer. Or like detect it was it was blood testing. Yeah. Yeah. and so she is in jail and this movie is like a documentary that they spent time with her like the two weeks before she goes in jail. And it looks so uncomfortable. my gosh. It reminds me of what's the one with the guy and the he said his wife got killed by an owl or fell down the stairs. Fell down the stairs. The staircase. That's what it reminds me of. Like why are you doing a documentary of you being crazy? Yeah. Well that one he like got in a romance with the the girl making the documentary. Which is why that documentary is so like heavy in his favor. But it's not. I mean i in my mind. I know, but but yeah. The owl theory, my boy. Yeah. It's by the the i i and it has Nathan Fielder. Have you heard of him? He is like the king of like awkward comedy. He has like he's done a couple shows for HBO. I like can't watch them because I get too uncomfortable. But so it's gonna be a really interesting he did the one with Elizabeth Holmes? Yes. okay. Yes. The trailer for it is like not very long, it's just like them talking. I promise to face it. Like the psycho eyes. We're just interfacing like human beings and I I have nothing to hide. Why would I lie? Like it it's crazy. It's very uncomfortable. So you wanna text Brody and tell him or of course. I can't. Lynn's Bonnie. Bonnie text him. Anyway, that looks interesting. And then it's the twenty fifth anniversary of Donnie Darko. They're rele re releasing it in theaters on October second. Have you guys seen that? With Jake Gyllenhall? No. And like Drew Barrymore is the teacher. It's it's good. It's kind of a quirky dark comedy, but okay. It's good. Sounds he's he's grieving, right? Is that what it's about? Kind of. It's like this weird like time loop almost story. Like an airplane engine falls into his room. And like I know. Uh-huh. And he keeps seeing this like creepy looking bunny guy in a bunny mask and i it's like I I like it. It's like a kind of a dark quirky machinity. Yeah. Yeah. And like Patrick Swayze's in there. He plays like this pastor that's got some skeletons perhaps. And anyway. Sure. It's good. and then the trailer for Remain with Jake Gyllenhaal. Speaking of Jake Gyllenhaal. We all just saw it and we didn't just see that. It played before practical magic. And it's night Shyamalan. When do you think I think it's nuts that it's coming out on February 14th, like Valentine's Day. Yeah. And it's a Yeah. Interesting. People like spooky vibes too. But it's not I've heard a theory that Jake Dylan Hall is playing the kid from Sixth Sense and he's grown up and he's in love with a ghost. And she's a ghost. I mean That sounds kinda cute. That's what Valentine's done, I guess. And it said Nicholas Sparks was part of that. Yeah. Yeah. So they might be like advertising it as spookier than it ends up being. For practical magic, 'cause that's like the spooky crowd. Yeah. So ish. Ish. So I don't know. They didn't want to use actual Hayley Joel Osman? I mean they should have. I love that. I they didn't Who knows? That's just a theory. It's like the theory that Digger might actually be a musicalist. I just hate that Hollywood has the women be so much younger than the men. Yeah. In these romantic everything. Everything everything. It just like we don't need to be fetuses. Well that's why we loved I'm pretty sure Lee Pace is younger than Sandra Bullet. At first he is. I know. Well done, ladies. so yeah, any other things? I watched the One Night Only with my boyfriend Calvin Turner. Did you like it? It was fine. Like it was it was a cute like rom com, but the the weird premise of it one night only was was dumb. It just like was weird, but it was cute on how they did it. It was just it was cute. Yeah. Totally worth watching on like a random but not too quite couldn't quite overcome that premise. I like it was fine. But yeah, they needed to have a uprising. I heard there was a weird cameo. Is there a weird cameo? I can't remember cameo. Anyway. Probably I just I can't picture right now. Okay. Anyway, it was cute. And I'm also watching Shrinking. That's a really good show. It is good. I loved watching Harrison Ford like have the like emotional and He's so good. He's so good. And the cute like his relationship with the doctor with The doctor. Yeah. Well, no, the girl. his daughter. Well, he's she's not his daughter. What's his name's daughter? Jason Siegel's daughter. Yeah. Alice. He does have a a relationship with his daughter that he's working on. But I get what you're saying. Yeah. I just love them together. They're so cute. So cute. I love everyone in it. I love the girl, the what's the other therapist girl. Gabby. Gabby, she's my favorite. She is. And Les. And Les. I know they're all they're so funny. And I actually don't like Jason Seagall. Is that how you say his name? Siegel. Yeah. Anyway, I don't love him, but he I like he is doing pretty good in this. Because you kinda like hate him a little. Yeah. Yeah. I love when he like puts on the Phoebe Bridgers song and is writing a streak and like crying. Yeah. It's so good. Anyway, yeah. Shrinking's good. We started Furious. But we didn't get to finish the first episode. But it looks it's kinda dark. Spooky. And it has Emmy Rossom from Phantom. Mm-hmm. Uh-huh. Mm-hmm. And I what was the other show she was on? I like the premise of that. She's like a FBI agent. Mm-hmm. But she like works in the call center, but then she gets like assigned to this one case outside of the call center. Mm-hmm. And yeah. That's That's all I'll say. So yeah. Okay, should we get into practical magics? Let's do it. Do we want to do our review of the new one at the end? Sure. Okay. So the first movie, Practical Magic One, was directed by Griffin Dunn and it came out October sixteenth, nineteen ninety eight. Griffin Dunn, you actually know him. He is the Creative writing teacher on My Girl. Do you remember that guy? The actor? He's like, I can't picture him. You would you'll recognize I like know who you're talking about, but I can't picture him. So he like directed practical magic. What? I know. That's crazy. I was like, who is this? And then I was like, Doesn't she have a crush on him? Yes. He is wait, I need to see his face. He reminds me of Singer that's in the Brady Bunch movie. What? David Jones. David Jones. He does kinda look like David Jones. Yeah. Okay. So the first the IMDV synopsis for the first one says two witch sisters raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town face closed minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them finding everlasting love. So sort of. Pretty good, but like. Yeah. So nineteen ninety-eight. Again, I really do think society peaked in the nineties. Yeah. At least. It's fun. Did you watch this? Do you remember this? I don't remember, but it's been a while. Yeah. I'll just be quiet for this. you're completely totally quiet. So ninety eight was Saving Private Ryan, The Truman Show. Mm-hmm. Which has gotten really good the older I get. Mm-hmm. Like it was it was always good, but I like like it so much more. Lice. I it's a no from me. I love when a comedian goes dramatic. Yes. Because they're so good. And like the implications of that movie have aged really well. It's very matrix before the matrix. Yes. the Big Lebowski, American History X, Rush Hour, There's Something About Mary Blade, A Bug's Life, Wedding Singer, Mulan, Pleasantville of the Faculty with Josh. Enemy of the State, Deep Impact, and Armageddon. Mm. That was bad. They both came out. The Mask of Zorro. Mom. I really do think. Antonio Bender. Yeah. And I think Catherine Zeta Jones in that movie is like the best a human has ever looked. Like she's just stunning. And you hate her because she's funny too. Like she has the best cutest personality. I know. You don't really hate her, we love her. And she likes sing and dance in Chicago. I know. She's incredible. The Water Boy. Poor boy Adam Sandlish was starting to fall off a little bit. US Marshals, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan. You've got mail. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Can't Hardly Wait. Prince of Egypt. Patch Adams. City of Angels Lee. Your favorite song. The Kairas. I still love that song. That song has had like a huge resurgence online. Like we talked about how good it is. Like I saw some turds. I saw some turds. And that don't see I was like the song's so overrated. Shin understands. She's a good girl. Yeah. It's great. It's great. And then Meet Joe Black. Do you remember that? Do I remember him like a spoon of peanut butter? Yes, yes, I do. He went through Lonnie went through a Meet Joe Black thing. I hated the girl in that though. She drove me nuts. I thought she was so pretty. She another movie was but she's doing a lot of like smell the fart acting, the Joey mugging. Yeah. She does. Isn't she in another movie and she does the same thing? Yes. Yes. She's one note. Claire Fulani or whatever her name is. What movie is that? Where she like turns and they turn. Isn't that That's me, Joe Black? Yeah, and then he gets hit by the Tansies. Yeah, yeah. Two of I know. It's so That's a no ridiculous. Over the top. Yeah. Okay, so where are the actors in their careers? Sandy was America's sweetheart. She had done Love Potion number nine in ninety two. I know. All the way back to ninety two. That's so good. Her bigger thing. Hercules. She does speed in ninety-four while you were sleeping in ninety-five. Wait, don't just let's skip over speed. Literally I was watching practical magic and Kevin was watching speed, so we had double Sandy's in our house. And peak Keanu. And I was like, please tell me when they're in the train. Tell me. Explaining to him the part and he's I don't know what you're talking about. Literally I like crying. He's Are you okay? And he's like trying to get the polls his hand over her. Yes. And they like liked each other in their life, but both had pressure. I know. I know. I feel like it's still not too late for them to get together. Or like give us another rom com of them. They've done two. Well, I guess speed is more. Did you ever watch Lake House? Did you guys watch that? I did. Like fine. Is it good? There's less calm in it. Less it's more dramatic. Yeah. Yeah. For my tastes. Yeah. It's a little comedy. Okay. Yeah. Well, 'cause they're like missing each other the whole time. Like get them together. Yeah. Do they do they have a good ending? Yes. Does it even remember the ending? I don't think it does so I don't like it. Okay. while you were sleeping in ninety five, which is great. The net in ninety-five. I loved that too. A Time to Kill in ninety-six. Speed two cruise control in ninety-seven. They didn't have Keanu. No, they didn't have Keanu. What were they thinking? Hope Floats in ninety-eight. And then this also in ninety-eight. So she was Who's in Hope Floats with her? Harry Connick Jr. yeah. yeah. Thank you. Singing his song. She does Days of Thunder in ninety and then Far and Away in ninety two Love of My Wife. To Die For in ninety five, Batman Forever in ninety-five. Val Kilmer. With Val's a good one. Peacemaker in ninety seven and then this in ninety eight. So like she was also pretty pretty well off. Mm-hmm. the director had done like not a ton of stuff before this. So but he had been an actor, so he was kind of doing both. And then yeah. He's Veda's creative writing teacher. Yeah. That's the one he'll always be to me. Tweed jacket, I'm sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Do you remember the first time you saw it or heard about it or anything? I feel like I saw this in the theater. I don't remember for sure, but I feel like I was excited about it 'cause I've always loved witches and stuff. If Lise was graduating high school, then we were all like old enough to go see it in a theater. Totally. Yeah. I don't think I've ever seen it before. Till like this barely. Yeah. Nice. She was crazy having a she had there was friends social. That's for darn sure. Michael was Jimmy Oot. Now Jimmy first has and he didn't talk. He doesn't talk. He doesn't line. He doesn't have a single line. Jimmy Angel off place. No. No. I'm not a bad boy. I like I like a bad boy. But he's like a gross. But like a Lee Pace bad boy. He's got the test. But he's really just a sneak. He's a whistle of pudding. He's six five. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I don't remember if I saw it in a theater. Maybe the dollars. Yeah. Maybe I did a little training table and a dollar movie combo and that's a really But it did make my stomach hurt, those cheese fries. The barbecue fragments. What a life. Really got the IBS act. So bad. I would be like in tears in pain, but I would just suffer through it. The Yeah. The yummy barbecue sauce sauce. I don't remember it hurting. it hurt so bad. I remember being in movies like she had to let the farts out. I know and I didn't because I was usually with my friends. Yeah. Yeah. That's what it was. Yeah. The cheese. It was the cheese. And the mayo and the barbecue. Deep fried potatoes. Yes. It's all just But a storm. But worth it every time. Totally worth it every time. You did it lots of times. Okay. in the hospital carrying the whole thing on their back. I do feel like Sandra and Nicole just ne needed each other. Yeah. And they carried the whole thing. Mm-hmm. I do love Stalker Channing and the other lady too. Diane. Diane Weese stays her name. Yes. They're amazing. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Juan, did you have anything else? The same. 'Cause I think the same. In the first one at least, there's a lot less comedy. Yeah. Than say this one. There is. Mm-hmm. But well, 'cause Griffin Dunn, the director, wanted it to be like darker. He wanted it to he wanted like the domestic violence plotline to be more strong and I like had a reaction to it. I was like, I don't like this. Yeah. I don't like it either. Like I hate this. Hate Jimmy. Yeah. No. Yeah. Lease, do you remember? He's gotta go. Yeah. I had. Like it I was said talking to Lonnie in the car on the way, and I was like, these movies aren't like great, like the scripts aren't particularly great, and they could be horrible if you had bad actors in them. But because you have like Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, like hello, just like two charisma bombs, movie star, capital capital And then like Stalker Channing and Diane Weist who like are just they don't even have much to do, but they're just grounded. Yes. They add so much weight to us. Yes. And then I also had the house. Well because Metal Live And the whole the cute town, but man that house house is amazing. It's so pretty. I was like Barbara Barbara Streisand, like after the movie came out, she like tried to buy the house and only to find out that it doesn't exist. It was built just for the movie. Yeah. I know. It's like Dashed all our cheese. To have the house. Yeah. Okay. Who is the secret MVP scene stealer lace? I would say Nicole Kidman really did kind of still the scene. I know I said she was like top notch, but mm yeah. She stole the scene for me. Yeah. She's has that red hair. Yeah. Her hair. Her hair scene. Really does. And she's so spunky and spicy and fun. Yeah. A as Abby said again, she's so sexy. She's sex so sexy. Yes. She is. I know. Yes. Her legs are about eight feet long. A mile long. It's incredible. She's like knows how to work it. A statue of a woman. She is statuesque. Mom, did you have someone? Well, I said the ants in the house in the town. Yeah. So the aunts. And then what cute aunts? Because it like nineties, but it was like primo nineties, like not Like a go nineties. Like it still looked good. Sandra Bullock's entire wardrobe, I like I would wear every single one of these tomorrow. Yeah. And not look bad at all. Yeah. So cute. So much green, that's why I wear my green. Even Nicole's like boho chic still works for that vibe. Yeah today. Totally. And her like even her small sunglasses have come down. Yes. But like I couldn't wear those. Hey L didn't try. I have not wanna see you try. It's like Nicole Kinman and Margot Robbie. And Elaine Bennis, whatever her name is. Ju Julia Reach. Yeah. That's about it. Doesn't she wear those in something? Probably. She steals them from her boss. Remember her little frames? They're the little frames. Yeah, something. and then I had the the the descendant Maria. She is so pretty. I was like, holy moly, so pretty. I don't think so. I mean maybe, but she looked the same. I know. She was so pretty. I should love I think that was a different woman. Because this one's Maria Owens and that one's Hannah. But they did do a flashback to Maria, and I think they just used a clip from the old movie. Okay. Because maybe. Shh it was like the girls were younger too, like Sandra and them as from that movie. Just stunning. Stunning. and then I just said Stockard Channing and Diane Weist forever 'cause they're so incredible. Rizo. Rizzo. Also, what's her name? The little redhead. yeah. Yeah. Evan Rachel Woodhouse. Yes. I thought she did such a good job. I I'm like kinda sad they didn't bring her back. I get it 'cause she's like too old. She's our age kinda yeah. Or a little younger. Yeah. Probably your age. Yeah. But Yeah. She would like she's an actress and she's good. I know, but I don't know if she can pull off like college students. Yeah. but love her. 'Cause I feel like Sandra Bullock and Nicole are supposed to be our age, but they're like twenty years older. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Anyway. and then I said the Ugo Sheriff, but in a bad way. I hate that guy. In like a derogatory way. Yeah. Get out of here. Like especially like Sandra Bullock is so stunningly beautiful. And especially in the first one I I I was just like, my gosh, she is just gorgeous. And she like comes out of the bushes in like this dress and you're like, Excuse me. Yeah. Do you think you at the end? Yes. I know. And that dress is so pretty. It is. It's got like a like aqua silver with like a with like a tool with a embroidery over it. Yeah. So pretty. Stunning. Anyway, the guy. Aidan Quinn, no offense, but But offense. But also offense. Okay. Who gets peak performance best of their career? That's hard with these ladies. Yeah, I don't I don't think anyone had their peak in this movie. I don't either, but I said hold on, sorry. I was gonna say maybe Diane Weist in the new one because she like she always She's always good in everything she's in, but she's never given a ton to do. Like she's a really good character actress. And I always feel like she does a really good job and her voice like calms my nervous system and badly. And I thought they used her really well in the new one that just came out. Like sh her presence Like both the aunts, Jetty and Franny. What cute names. Mm-hmm. Like had bigger roles, I feel like. And were present throughout the movie and like I just maybe if I had to pick I guess I'd pick her. But I was just gonna say, like, I don't know get in if it would be the best of their performance, but I thought Nicole Kidman had so much weight in this movie to pull off. In the first one. Yeah. Yeah. Because she had these crazy you know, she's being possessed and yeah. All of that stuff is Yeah. She did such a Jimmy. She's so good. Yes. Yeah. Like she did such a good job. Yeah. It's not surprising that Nicole Kidman became Top of the A list. Nicole Kidman. Yeah. Okay. if you were making a new one, who would you guess? I guess like d what did you guys think of Joey King and Arya Stark? What's her name? I love them. Yeah. And I thought they did such a good job. Yeah. They were cute. I wish Very Believable as Sisters. Yeah. Maisie Williams. Mais thank you. I wish she was given a little more to do. Yeah. I was kind of surprised that hers was so born of a wan wah. Yeah. Especially because of the like sisters that they didn't stick together is weird. Yeah. But well. Yeah. Yeah, that was interesting. Yeah. But maybe it wouldn't have worked if she was there to be like, no. Right. This is wrong. Right. And that's that's kind of their characters, like the Nicole Kidman was wild and would go and do the impulsive thing and the other one was Yeah. Straight. Uptight, tightly wound. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. It was a different woman, but she looks just like her. Yeah. Still stunning. Yeah. I said just because it would be fun, I think Emma Thompson would be a great aunt at some point. I love her so much. But channel Trilani a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think Meryl Streep would be a great aunt, too. yeah. She could do anything. She could do anything. I did like the whole cast, guys. She did I didn't do any so Lonnie's time to show. But this would be the first movie. If you remember, we do the first movie. Okay. Yeah. Which no one would ever do, but yes. It's so for Sally. Get in there. Get in. For Sally I said Zoe Deutsch. yes. I think she has that charisma that like Sandy has Deutsch. She is thinking she's Leah Thompson's daughter. Which is Back to the Future. Leah Thompson's daughter. she's in I don't know who's She's in Zombieland. Mm-hmm. Two, maybe. I think two. Yeah. She was in that rom com on Netflix with Glenn Powell set it up with like Lucy Liu as her boss and she's like the the evil boss. She places that she's really cute. Have you seen the viral clip of her on like Jimmy film where she does the like she makes her face look like she's had a facelift? No. It's incredible. Or have you seen her clip of like one is this goddess woman, blah blah blah, and the other's a guy? yeah. Anyway, I'm sure I've seen her, I just can't feel She's adorable. And then for Gillian, I said Sadie Sink. Yeah, I yes Abby was like mad they didn't have Sadie's thing in this movie. I was like, You're cute apps. She was a good redhead. for Jimmy, I did Hero Finds Do you know who that is? No He was Voldemort's younger self. Yeah. Have you seen him now? No. He's Ray Fine's like nephew. Who's his name? Sherlock. Or younger Sherlock. Young Sherlock. Whatever that's called. Nice. I thought he'd be kind of a good bad guy. Yeah. for Gary I said Joe Curie. Ugh. Love him. Put him someone like Joey Harry. This is what I'm saying together. Yes. I know. good, good, Lon. Yeah. Cute. So for the ants. Tina Faye and Amy Puller. Yes. That's our calm. But also like they might be four things. Like baby biddy. Yeah. Yeah. I'll be bitty parts. 'Cause they would be That's so funny a lot. In the best way. Yeah. That's fun. Nice. Very I didn't think of anyone for Michael because that's just mean. The husband that has that line. Yeah. Just a pretty face. Just a pretty face. Find a model. Which is funny. I did see the the kid Gideon. 'Cause I was just like looking through like twenties. Gideon. I in practometric two. This second one, her boyfriend that she loves and he's in the Gadian. Right, right, right, right. spoiler. Yeah. It's fine. What's the karate kid show that he was in? He's in a karate kid show? The new one. Isn't it just a cobra. okay. He was in Cobra Kai. Gideon was? Yeah. Uh-huh. And I was like thinking of him for someone. Which is hilarious. That's funny. Yeah. And he popped up in Daddy's Magic too. He was like, What? Interesting. Anyway, th those were my thoughts. She did it. Nice. For a director I thought like Autumn DeWild, she's the one that did the new Emma with Anya Taylor Joy. I thought she could do a good one. 'Cause it's beautiful and Yeah. Mm-hmm. But I thought who who did the second one that we just saw? I thought they did a good job. Like I thought the first part was really good at Suzanne Beer. I thought she did a good job. Like the first parts were really good about homaging the original and like spending time in that glorious house and the kitchen and the garden and all the things. The sunroom. I hate that. In my life. Like the And Nicole Kidman holding the black cat and just looking like a painting. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They did a good job. Okay. who is your favorite character? that's heart. Nice. I would say Jelly, Nicole Kidman. Yeah. She's just so fun and sexy. She's so sexy. She is so sexy. It's just so cute and good because Abby is the the redhead and Katie is the brunette. You're a tea. For sure. I know, it's really good. I mean she's not really a true redhead, but she's a little strawberry blash. She is. Yeah. Yeah. And their personality is. Her skin says otherwise. Yeah. I know. Her skin says redhead. Yes. Yes. Card says me. Juan, who is your favorite character? I just love how Jillian is just free and wild and then Sally is like very hold it together. I can't be myself. Yeah. I just think that's like such a s sweet. They need each other. Yeah. Like it's like yin yang. Yep. Yeah. It's just so cute that way. Yeah. Lise, who's your favorite character? You could do the new movie. Lee Pinks. I have to say Jilly. Jilly. yeah. She's I see so much of myself and Sandra. Yeah. That it she drives me crazy. Yeah. Like, girl, just have some fun. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Wear the bold lipstick. Wear the bold lip. Own your power. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Juan, did I already ask you who your favorite was? I was talking about the yin yang. yeah. You made it sound whatever I was saying good. Well you I had the odds being my favorite just because I love them and I love in the first one, then they're like Clean up your own mess and they leave. Yep. Like it's so good. Cause like you know they probably could help them and do it for them, but it's great. I love them. And their style takes me back to the Titanic. And I was like, maybe I should have like maybe I should let my bride of Frankenstein gray hair highlights come in, like stop your channels. They're amazing. Yeah. Yeah. And then I just love like the witchcraft of it all and the sisterhood of it all, like that's the p most powerful magic is sisterhood. It's so cute. Totally. And I love the in the first one, the phone tree and they get their coven of the mean neighbors that have been the worst and they like are so excited. She's like, you know I've always wanted to see the inside of your house. Yeah. You've never identified with someone more. But yeah. That's so cute. my gosh, I just thought of who that lady was. What she was on Troop Beverly Hills. Yeah. yeah. I just figured that out. Sorry. It's like a little assistant girl. I know her. But they're little squeaky place. Yeah. it's so good. Okay, and then who is the actual worst? Gary. And like even the name Gary. What are we doing? What are you a hundred? No. I mean Jimmy's the actual worst. But Gary Be good looking, at least. Especially because it's like personality. He's supposed to be this incredible man that can't exist because he's so perfect that she did a spell of when she was little and it's like you've made a mistake. You've made a mistake. You forgot to clarify a few things. I know, like his favorite shape is a star th I mean, which is like something a little kid would do. Yeah. Well, and the potential of like he's the cop and she's a murderer and the me and they like can't handle it. No. No. I know. And she's supposed to be able like like when they like kiss finally and like they're like can't Hold back, but it's just like I think you can though. Sandra Bullock, you're such a good actress, but good good lord. Get her someone better. I know it's a small part. Can we get someone better? Yes Charleston has Especially in like the nineties. my gosh. When dudes were peak, man. Yeah, they really were. Who was even like the first husband was cuter. Guess even the first time. Even Bill Pullman I would have been happier with. I love Bill Pullman. He too but he's not like super handsome. But he has her. He's charming compared to that. What's why I don't like Legends of the Fall. Like I think he's kind of like the main guy. I know. You forget. Who thought he was like so hot? Like which s Hollywood studio is at? No. I don't know either. They were wrong. They were yeah, no. Yeah. Like It's a no for me. It's a no for me. It's a no for me doc too. Like it's like get like George Clooney in there, someone like give me give me a break, man. Keanu. Get Keanu back. Yes. He's the perfect man. Yes. Get him in that white T shirt. Yeah. Take off that itchy rubble. yeah. And he and Keith and they have the best chemistry. The longing looks. Yeah. Just I've I've said it, you have to be able to look at your co-star correctly, and that guy cannot not be like he sucks. Sorry. Okay. Here come the Perry Sweats. is this based on anything? Yes, it was based on a book, a nineteen ninety five novel by Alice Hoffman. apparently the book is very different from the movies. Jillie and Sally don't live with their aunts. There's no ki curse that kills their lovers. And Antonia and Kylie's ages are switched. Mm-hmm. There's no midnight margaritas and it focuses way more in on on Antonia and Kylie and less on Francis and Bridget. Who are Francis and Bridget? Jet Brennet and Bridget. Okay. Bridget. Jetty and Franny. Got it. Okay. So like very different. There's no curse. Yeah. Wait, aren't those the girls? The younger girls? Who? That's Kylie and Antonia. Yeah. They're the young girls. So apparently it's most an aunt. Unlike the the Fran Franny. Not the older. Yeah. Not even Jillian and I don't know. It just says Jilly and Sally don't live with their aunts. There's no curse that kills their lovers. And Antonia and Kylie's ages are switched. And it focuses way more on Antonia and Kylie and less on Frances and Bridget. I think it's still about Jilly and But just more on them and less on the aunts. Okay. What was your most iconic iconic scene? And you could do either movie, I guess. Or should we do like a spoiler warning at the end? Yeah, the end. Okay. So original movie. Favorite scene, Lice? Most iconic scene? I would say midnight, Margarita's I feel like has stood. The test of time. It sure does. Because I don't remember the movie, but I like remember that part. Yeah. Well, and it kinda has like a good like it changes. The tone changes by the end of it. 'Cause it's Jimmy's alcohol. Mm-hmm. And it's kinda Cursed and tainted and makes them start they start singing things to each other. Yeah. Yeah. And that's when the ants are like, What have you guys done? So good. Lisa, do you remember? Not really. Not really. Comin, come in moment. Comin. My memory is that they buried something. Yeah. Yeah. And it was probably very satisfying. Yeah. And they buried Jimmy. They kill him twice. Well, they kill him once and then bring him back. Three times kill him. Yeah, they get rid of banishing. No, they kill him first. Yeah. Yeah with the belt. They bring him back. Yeah. Yeah. Then they kill him again. Bringing him back isn't killing him three times. It's bringing him back. They've they kill him three. They kill him first. Yeah. I guess you're right. You're right. I mean it's the third time it's like banishing his soul. Yeah. Yeah. It's just when he came back. Yeah. But the frying pan. Yeah. It's really good they brought that back up. The Dutch oven. Those are heavy. I liked when sh she's a kid and she casts the love spell and you see all the petals go up across the moon. So cute. So pretty. and I remembered this also when his boots come out of the ground. And then and then they sink back in. They sink back in. It's very wizard of Aussie. Yeah. creepy. The seance with their brooms. yeah. Around with a covet seance, but yeah. Yeah. And that girl you said, she brings her dustbuster. She says bring her dustbuster. Does this work? Yeah. And then when they all sweep his ashes and burn up. It's good. Yeah. I and when they jump off the roof. Yeah, that was my other No, you're okay. I was just I said midnight margaritas, the ending with all the neighborhood ladies like the foam tree. Mm-hmm. And I love how it's like framed of like Sally's came out as a witch. Like it's so cute. They're like so proud of her and it's like So good. Yeah. and then when they fly on Halloween. So cute. does anything make you tear up? Nice. go to Lonnie. Lon. When they're doing the like stance thing and then they're like she's like open it up and like Well, right before that when she's like laying next to her and it's like Just let him take me. Yeah. It's just so like no, no, no. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that whole scene. That was teary. And like all the women held hands to help each other. And it makes me get emotional now. I love it. It's like Yeah. Cause the aunts like, Well, you need a coven. You need a full coven for this spell. And so they Well and the ladies show up. Yeah, because we already know that they didn't want Sally at the top of the tree. Yeah. Foam tree. Yeah. And they but they show up for her, which is really Sweet. It's cute. And it's cute. And they probably just wanted to be like included. Doing it for themselves. Yes. I love that part. That makes me cry too. And then the cute sisters. And it's like again, that scene could go really wrong, but you've got Nicole Kidman doing the dream. And then the Getting him out of her and all the things and it it works. I mean it does get a little hokey, but it Yeah. The the effects. All magic does. Yes. Yes, one hundred percent. Okay. does what scene made you want to throw something at the screen? Lawn. And those darn town kids throw crap. my god. Like right at Jillian's head, right at the beginning. You're like They're so mean. I mean kids can be really mean, but man alive. And when they bring him back and then immediately kill him. It's really funny. It is pretty funny. Don't bring him back. I know. And my gosh, I hate when he's choking her. I just can't in the back. It's so horrible. Yeah. I I had like Jilly being a moron about Jimmy, like get out of there, girl. Mm-hmm. And like, you're a witch. Use your power. Mm-hmm. And just they're so dumb. It's self defense. Like go like you you've got a black eye. Like you're he probably has like a record. You're gonna be fine. Yeah. And you have a witness. He's talks about how the woman that he found Well that's why the guy's there. He's trying to find the murderer. And branded. Yeah. And that's what he like almost did to her. So yeah. I know. Like they're so dumb. Yeah. But it's fine. Yeah. yeah, all the scenes of like the where he like kidnaps them and they're driving. Like, you guys could get out of this situation. You're witches and a power and figure it out. Yeah. But it's it's it works. It's why we there's a movie. what scene feels like a warm hug? I'll go first. I just had one Gillian's driving home. And she's like listening to like Stevie Nicks. I don't know why that scene always like makes me maybe it was like driving a lot by myself going up to like the store to work. I don't know. I like love that scene. There's that scene is weird though too. Like very fake looking. Like the fake senses. Why is it going so fast? Yeah. She's magic. Yeah. I love when they're eating breakfast. Like The most idyllic thing. Give me that whole setting. The table and the cute breakfast and the pancakes, get the sheriff out of there, but everything else. and then her cute greenhouse and her little shop. I was like kinda sad her shop doesn't exist anymore. I know. I was confused. It reminded me of the Rose Apothecary in the Schitzwood Link. Yes. Like that was where they got the idea. Yeah, probably. Shampoos. I love when she runs into town for Michael and the music, the Faith Hill songs. The Faith Hills. It's just so cute. Totally. Yeah. Like nineteen ninety eight perfection. But just like it's such like a book to be like, and now you love each other. It's like perfect. But it was really cute. The little aunts kind of really nudged her. Like, what time? When is it gonna happen? And she like Stands up and goes. Mm-hmm. And he does too. Wouldn't that be nice? That's what I mean. It's perfect for a book. Yes. And fiction. Yeah. Do you have any other ones? That was my place. Do you have any? And the cute lady's voice. Jan Weist. Yes. I know. Her voice is so I don't know. Comfort. Classic. She's the mom in Footloose, and I like remembering. She's the mom and Edwards is her hands too. yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She's so good. The Avon. Avon collie. And she's like coming up with the very purple color for his pale skin. Her voice so cute. So comforting. Yes, like actually. Okay, what was the best plot line? I just have that sister love is the most powerful magic. Yeah. And it's both. I feel like the first movie really tried to sell The like a man loving you is like the most important thing and like being in love. But I wish I mean I they also had the sister being powerful and like that love. Yeah. Like you're my person. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway. She was in Only Murders in the Building. She was the Nice. Like Graving Widow. Nice. That they solved the murder for. yeah, yeah. Yeah. Nice. What season was that? Like five. I think it's the last one. Nice. Yeah, I love her. funniest moments, quotable lines. I have when they're doing their midnight margaritas. And I think it's no. Did we do plot line? Yeah. You were looking up sorry. what's your plotline favorite? Sorry, what did I said the phone tree and like how it pays off in the Yes, I think it's just so cute. It is the cutest. And I love well, this will go into the funniest moments. When Jillian walks in and she's like, Hang on to your husband, ladies. Why don't you just like this is What you think of me, so I'm gonna do it back to you right in your face. She has a tattoo on her tube. Snakes. Yeah. Whatever they say. Yes. when they're doing the midnight margaritas, and she's like, like you two hag ants. Yeah. It's so meaningful. When they start turning. Yes. when Julie tells Sally, when she's like trying to get her out of bed when she's depressed after her husband dies. She's like, you need to brush your teeth because your breath stinks. Yeah, that was great. I love when the lady brings the dustbuster instead of a broom. Mm-hmm. And the lady saying, I've always wanted to see the inside of your walls. It's too good. And like her saying, like, Sally just came out. Like how good. Those are very nineteen ninety eight. It's not super funny, but Yeah, those are all I had. I had one. Well I had a few. Two. When she's like, Hey honey, can I see that ca can I see that? And then she throws the kazoo. yeah, that one's great. After the like margaritas the little one. Yeah. Yeah. It's really funny. Did you have any on Slice? I have one more. It's when Jillian says, Do you ever spin really, really fast? Yeah. And and she's like, She does it all the time. Well, that's what love is like. It makes your heart race. It turns the world upside down. But if you're not careful, if you don't keep your eyes on something still, you can lose your balance. You can't see what's happening to the people around you. You can't see that you're about to fall. so good. For her like her realization of like, this is toxic love. This isn't like good love. Yeah. You know? Yeah. Lust. Yeah. Like obsession. Came in clutch there. Yeah. Yeah. I just had the one the hang on to your husband's ladies or girls. if you could rewrite anything, what would it be? I just said recast Aiden Quinn for sure. I just hate Faded Lovers too. I don't like The they like don't have an option. I don't know. I it's not my favorite trope. Mm-hmm. Like you have to be I don't know. Like I summoned you. Yeah. Yeah. Especially if it's that. Like no. And like you. Yeah. Just don't like it. Yeah. I know what you mean. Take it take it out of my books too, please. I kinda like it though. Only if they have the enemies to lovers vibe before. And also if like the girl like it's not a strong pull for her, but it is for him. I like that better. Mm-hmm. I don't know why. Well. So they suffer. Yeah. If she says no. Or whatever. I just you just have to have they have to like fall in love out of like their knowledge of that first. And then it's fine. And it's I don't feel like they do that. Yeah. Any gaping plot holes? I mean I'm sure there are. But Probably I didn't really think about it. Just that it's self defense. It's very clear. It's fine. okay, everything in the first one especially I mean they both were, but everything is so dreamy. Shot on location. This house is on the short list right up there with Home Alone and Father of the Bride for me. Yeah. man, I don't know what I would pick up. And Clue. and well, Clue, yeah. I thought I like the location of this one. It's on a lake. Yeah. It's supposed to be Massachusetts. Yeah. Anyway. That's the one sink steals it. I can't think of words right now. Yeah. But Clinches, clinches. Clinches it. There it is. Okay. it was filmed in part on an artificial set in California. because the producer For all the interiors, probably. Yeah. Decided the house was such a big part of the Owens' culture. it was built on San Juan Island in the state of Washington, so it's not actually in Massachusetts. A lot of the set from California was brought to the actual location to film. and like it was put inside the house. It took nearly a year to like get everything right with just the house. Wow. But like so it was built on like sacred like Native American land. So they could not like they got they got permission. Right. They rented it. but they couldn't like drill down into the actual earth. So it was just like sitting on like a platform. So it's kind of crazy that it was like safe. Especially with like ocean winds, that's crazy. Yeah. it was torn down after filming, obviously. and then the small town sc small town scenes were filmed in downtown Coopville, Washington. It's a little Victorian era seaside port town. I know. On Whib Whidby Island, which is off of Oregon. Yeah. so the production designer, her name was Robin Standerfer, and then Stephen Al Alesch of the design studio Roman and Williams. So good for him. let's see, they designed many of the props by hand. So like the spell book prop with like all those drawings and like the dried petals and pressed everything, like they did it. Just like original hand-drawn illustrations by that guy. Dang. Yeah. He said or the the girl said, Stephen and I devoted ourselves to that. We made every little thing in the film down to the tincture jars and pressed flowers. And that he did incredible etchings of plants that you can see all around the dining. So like those yeah, I know. Crazy. It's amazing. I know. They did such a good job. 'Cause I remember like I remember trying to do that when I was little, like trying to make a spell book with like the pressed flowers and the things and it was really hard. Didn't look the same. Didn't quite look the same. Bless my heart. I feel like that was your list. Yeah. I'm positive I was there. I know. I'm like, where did it end up? Let's find this gem. Possibly still in your room. Probably. Probably in my closet, like actually. Mom's kept it like a shrine. She's tried to give it to me. She's like, take your crap. Keep trying to get me to take my crap. You have proof to take it. I know I need to Remind me the next time we're there. Remind you, the menu. Remind me. Okay. Ro the Rock and Mummy Returns. Homage for where special effects. It's gotta be Ghost Jimmy. Ghost Jimmy was too much rosemary. But I did love Ghost Jimmy in the rosebush where like she can see in through the glass to the little Kylie. Yeah. Yeah, sure. I love it's very good. Like when he's like in the room walking around with like glowy eyes, it's like his anime eyes. Yeah. Okay. They're creepy though. Yeah. Yeah. It works. the best special effects. I think like the petals. Mm-hmm. And like the leaf. Like when she just kinda like does the leaf. Or like the candle, the stick or the stirring of the coffee. All the little practical effects just are look so good. Mm-hmm. let's see. So the score and soundtrack is kind of funny. Michael Nyman is the composer. He's He was hired by the director to write the orchestral score and he said it was the best score I think I've ever written for a film that engaged me not at all. Which is crazy. What a dick. So it gets interesting. So when the director turned his cut of the movie into Warner Brothers, the studio executives felt it had some problems and the music was one of them. So they dumped the entire score. And they brought on Alan Silvestri to write a completely new score. And it's become like iconic that score. I love that. Yeah. Yeah. It's fantastic. So that's kind of funny. and that the other problems were that it was like too dark with the domestic violence, which I'm like, I don't know if you liked studio executives are smart, but they were smart about this. yeah, my that scores all over my Instagram right now. Me too. Best use of music in the movie. But the lime and the coconut. Both of those are really ones. And like and Stevie Nicks wrote a song for it. Is that the one that Nicole Kidman was singing? Or a different one? In the first one. What was Nicole Kidman singing? I thought you said on her drive she was singing. Stevie Nixon. Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. So Stevie Nicks contributed two songs named Crystal and If You Ever Did Believe. And the second one was like considered the official theme song. they they chose her specifically because back in the eighties a rumor was widely circulated that s Stevie Nicks was a witch. And so they were like, we have to get her for the movie. Love it. Yeah. The singer has always denied these allegations, yet clearly had a sense of humor about them. It's like, girl, just embrace it. Like, I wish. I know. Yeah. Sh she's a powerful woman. Yes. Has opinions and doesn't can stay. Okay, let's see. So the director, Griffin Dunn, hired a real witch to serve as as a consultant on the movie. As one How it does. I know. However, she was paid a fee and put up in a nice hotel, and then the witch Galled the director and she explicitly demanded a percentage of the film's profits and an additional two hundred and fifty thousand dollars payment. Way to be a witch. Yes. Tell them what you want. But then the producers obviously would not agree to this. So she said she was gonna put a curse on the movie and the director. Hey She left the director a voicemail in which she threatened a land of curses and then began speaking in tongues. She also attempted to sue Warner Brothers. So the studio just like paid her to go away. Isn't that crazy? and then the d I think the der the director, where was it? Let's see. He like hired someone to do like a staging thing. He was like, Hire another witch. Yeah. This is kind of amazing. Hilarious. I know. during the press junket for the first practical magic, Sandra Bullock told reporter reporters that the failure of Speed Two convinced her to stop trying to make like blockbusters and focus more on like interesting projects that helped her stretch as an actress. So Hope Floats was her first film with that idea in mind, and then this was the next one. So Should have had Harry Connig Junior be Gary. Like anyone. Anybody for the love. Like, come on, man. Let's see. The exorcism scene at the end, Nicole Kidman like wanted to bang her head on the floor. Mm-hmm. Like she wanted to do it so they they brought like rubber panels and rubber strips of wood so that she didn't concuss herself. Yeah. And he like the director got so nervous, he's like, I just remember her like take after take slamming her head. And she looked totally possessed. But it's She was fine, but yeah. Cinema. Cinema. I already told you Barbara Streisand tried to buy the house that didn't exist. But man, couldn't that be cool? You're just like, I watched a movie, I'm gonna go buy that house. You were Barbara Streisand and have the means It's like Michael Douglas watching Zoro and being like, Well, I'm gonna go get that actress house. He must be a witch. I don't know what he must be made a deal or two. Yeah. Yeah. He must be very charismatic though. I feel like that's how he made it in Hollywood. Yeah. He's a Neppo baby. He's also a neck. Yeah, that helps. so the director said that Kidman, Bullock, Weist, and Stalker Channing really did become slightly inebriated during the midnight margarita scene. Nice. as did the rest of the crew. He said we all drink tequila and and shots. And then shot that scene and thank goodness the director of photography didn't have any at all. So it wasn't checky can't. Yeah. Yes. it's funny. I think Nicole Goodman is the one that brought the actual alcohol. So it's really funny. Natural girl. Yeah. Nine to five and a girl. Yeah. it's so good. So La Vulture, like the magazine, assembled an actual coven witches and interviewed them about the movie. And they were all very enthusiastic. And two of them were like cheering on the fact that the men in the story are accessories on the sidelines while the women are friends. Yeah. let's see. The producer said that she had a very her name was Denise Denovi. She had a very specific reason for wanting to cast Aidan Quinn in the role. I know. Just call him Aiden. That's even a better name. Did she say why? Yes, she said, we wanted a Gary Cooper kind of guy, quiet and taciturn. he radiates goodness, but he's manly too. I was like, I feel like kind of nope. Not seeing it. Like I that's what I'm saying. I feel like they're seeing something we don't see on the screen. in person. Maybe he has more of that presence, but maybe I don't see it. And I was like, maybe when I'm younger I didn't get it 'cause he's older and didn't still need to change. Especially like next to come like Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, like you've gotta have someone with some Lee pace. A lee pace. Yeah. And like Keanu can be like quiet and manly and Whatever needs to be the definition of that. Yes. Whatever she could just say. Whatever those chassis turned. Whatever that means. But manly. And like quiet. Like he does that's all that quiet eyes. And yeah. It's not spoken. It's flavor. For the casting of the ants. Diane Weist and Vanessa Redgrave were Initially and why are you laughing? Yeah. my gosh. What are you doing? Cut that, cut that, got that. Sorry. Like literally, what are you guys doing? Text Brian again. Good gosh, children. Okay. So Diane Weist and Vanessa Re Redgrave were in negotiations to be the aunts. Who's Vanessa Redgrave? I can't she picture her. Yummy Mel, I think. She's Michelle Fiber's mom. She would have been great. One fine day. Isn't that her? Isn't that Vanessa Redgrave? I don't know. I think you're right. I think it's her. Who is that? Who am I thinking of? Who did I kill? She is Joe. She is the mom of what's their names? The sisters. Liam Neeson's wife. Natasha Richardson's? Yes, and the sister that was in Yes. One. Your face. Return to me. Yeah. They're sisters. Mini Driver? No, the the one that dies. his first wife. duh. The one that looks exactly like Joshua. I pictured Minnie Driver and Bonnie Hunt. I was like can't be Bonnie Hunt. And then your race showed it. You see that whole thing going through my head? Buffering. So, anyway, Vanessa Redgrave couldn't get a deal worked out and so Stocker Chenny took the role instead. But I think she it's great. Yeah. It's Rizzo. We love her. And then there really is a Death Watch Beetle in folklore, which is said to predict the death of those who hear it. Mm. So Yeah. Okay, Gary's sweater's after darklies. Kiss Murray Kill A gun to mind trick. I would take Michael his kid. I would too. So Jimmy Jimmy, Gary, and Michael. Kiss Jimmy. Kill Gary and Mary Michael. Marry Michael, kiss Michael, kill Jimmy and Gary. And Gary. Well, marry Gary so he dies from the curse. there you go. That's the ticket. Or just kill him. And kill spark. Yeah. Lee Pace. This give us all the pace. Which is funny because the Michael guy, whoever plays him, mm-hmm. I don't like him now. Like who he's like more. He's like the doctor in the Hamptons show. Yeah. He's like the main guy in that. Yeah. He's also I told you the best part about him is he doesn't open his mouth. Yeah. And he has good hair. It's good curly longish hair and Yeah. Yeah. Good smile. Who makes it under your get out of jail card free list? Lee Pace. Lee Lee Pace. All day. Yeah. He is He's a rice. Six foot five. I wouldn't Why wouldn't survive. his voice. Lee piece's voice could just Both of these dudes. Holy moly. Yeah. There's some good some good voices. Yeah. Voices or whoever is the casting director got it. Real got it. They made up for Aiden Quinn with Leaf Pig. Yeah. Sorry, Aiden Quinn. See if you're watching. Please. Like, no. Ew. Okay. Who had the hottest look? Sandy's entire wardrobe is so cute in the first one. I love Jillian's. I love both. Yeah. I want both. And then I want the aunts and their nineteen tens. Yeah. Getting on the Titanic. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. Shawls and the like Samantha wardrobe. Yeah. I need the witch hair because apparently it's very thick and lust walls. We need that apothecary. I know I need that apothecary. But like Sandra Bullock's like cute white lace tank and her jeans and like all they like her like clothes have like herbs on them. Like and there's a lot of olive greens. So cute. And that dress at the end. Earthy. That dress and she walks out. I'm like, ow, I no one deserves her. No. This well. It's what you said in the garlands. my god. Am I lesbian? yeah. She's so pretty in that movie. They're both in their peak. Yes. The words. I kind of wish Nicole Gibbons was hair was redder in the second one. And it was like it is in the second movie like curly and witchy. Yeah. Yeah. Not so controlled. I mean it's fine though. It's incredible. It's beautiful. I just wish it were wilder red like her personality. Yeah. I just incredible hair. Yeah. Sorry, Lise, we kind of got into hair corner early. Don't apologize. Hair corners gives me life. Yeah. Who would you trust to pick you up from the airport? Obviously Sally. Yeah, Sally. Not Jillian at all. Or her daughter in the divorce. Yeah. Let's see. So Practical Magic opened with thirteen million dollars in sick ticket sales on the first weekend. It grossed ninety four worldwide. And the production budget was like seventy five million. So it made money. But it wasn't like an overnight success. Yeah. I think it like with people our age, it kind of grew into like more of a cult following. And like everyone's really into their witchy era witchy era right now. It's great. let's see, does it end up influencing other movies and TV shows? I don't know. I mean, we had so many good witchy stuff growing up. We had like Especially right then. Yeah. Like Sabrina the Teenage Witch. We had Charmed The Craft. Craft Witches Which Remains. The scariest movie ever made. I read some little blurb about Christmas. When Angelica used to Pulls her face off. No, absolutely not. It's all cracked. And her back. Yeah, her back comes like splitting up the skin. Absolutely not. Horrifying. What a crazy man. But apparently this was like released on DVD with the witches of Eastwick. I was like, we need to watch that again. I know. Is it a watch? Yes. It's got a shirt and Michelle Pfeiffer. Yeah. Yeah. Like we need to get in there. Yeah. Apparently they were like released together. Yeah. And like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Like we just had a lot of really good witchy stuff growing up. And it's really it's really man like marinated over the years. No. My friends really It's a good word. Yeah. Coming into their witchies. So the rotten tomatoes are kind of funny. The critic score was 30% for the original. No. And this audience is 73. Isn't that crazy low from the critics? Dudes. It was a bunch of bunch of boys. And I don't like any of this. Because this the new one's getting like it's like 36% right now. So bad. It's such a good show. That's crazy. I know. Like it's I it's I get that it's not Citizen Kane. I get it. Yeah, but it wasn't trying to be. It wasn't Yeah. Mm-hmm. And like for what it is, it's lovely. And obviously it has like really resonated with like the target audience that it was made for. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And I feel like the second one will be too. I think the second one was good. And ma like Lonnie, you said you might even like it better, right? Yeah, I like her better for sure. Yeah. the letterbox score is three point six out of five, which I think is that's good. That's better. Yeah. what holds up best about this movie? Mm-hmm. I just said I would live in that world if I could. Give me that house, man. Yeah. Like when they showed the kitchen again in the new one, I was like, yes, that kitchen moaned in the theater. It was. We were really obnoxious and I was fine with it. It's like You guys weren't even whispering. They were just like talking or two away. Full volume. It's fine. Yeah. No one cared. They were all thinking the same thing. I thought the like sisterly love. Me too. That was what I was gonna say. And then carries through the next one. Yes. Deepest cultural impact, I just said the witchery. Witch witchy goodness. Mm-hmm. has anything aged like milk? Think so. Probably Aiden Quinn. That was mean. Molly's down. I'm sorry, I just I did though. It's so frustrating because like I love everything else about that movie, but I Did you demand the sweat blanket for us? It's so weird. He must have some thing about it, I think. In person, real life. In person. Yeah, yes. Okay, we kind of touched on hair corner, but I do think they're both wearing extensions in the first one. I said that Sandra Bullock's hair is crazy. I think her hair is naturally thick. She's like a she is totally has really thick natural hair, but I do think she has extensions too. Yeah. To make it super long in the first one. Mm-hmm. And then I don't know if Nicole is wearing anything in this in the first one. She has so much hair. Mm-hmm. They might have like both been wearing extensions. It might be like right when extensions were becoming a thing. I don't know, maybe. We'll have to look it up and find out. Okay. How often do you rewatch it, Lacey? This is like my first time watching it. I feel like I watch it like once a year in the fall. I don't think I watch it that often. Maybe every other year. I like it. Yeah, I do too. It's a good background movie. Yep. It's a good ho house movie. Yeah. I just didn't love how the whole premise is well, whatever. Yeah. Any final thought? rate it out of ten. I love straight. No, I hate it. No, I chew it. Decided. It's like a one thumb, a two thumb, or an okay. boy. She made a thumbs down a system. And a thumbs down. I was gonna say it was only all good. one thumb. The thumbs up. Okay. Yeah. What about the second one? One thumb up. Okay. I thought I liked them both. Yeah. But it wasn't like I'm gonna watch those again. Yeah. A bunch of times. I'm a seven on the first one. Uh-huh. But maybe an eight because of the house in town. Yeah. Just get me in that and like Sandra's wardrobe. Sally's wardrobe. Whatever we wanna say. Yeah. I would say like seven and seven point five. Mm-hmm. Lince, I have a note. yes, nice. So Nicole Kidman wore a custom long red wig featuring wispy bangs and copper highlights. It looked so natural, many assumed it was her real hair. And then Sandra just styled her natural dark brown hair with soft reluxed waves for her roll. my gosh. What an incredible head of hair, Sandy. She does have an incredible hand of hair. It's crazy. And Nicole, but I and maybe if that isn't if it took like a year to like do the house, maybe she grew her hair really long for it. Yeah. Sandy, maybe. And she probably can grow it. It was probably long and then she's like, I'll just do witchy long. She is Jana Adams. Like totally sold everything about her. Which is like such a compliment. What a compliment for you. Totally for both of them. Yes. Yeah. I can't believe that's a wig. I kind of thought it was, but then I re-watching it, I was like, no, that's gotta be your hair. What a good wig. It's a really good wig. Wig's peaked right there. okay. Okay, let's talk about the new one. Let's talk about Lee Pace. That's literally what I was waiting for the whole time. For him to show Or give you like instant reaction. What do you think? and spoiler warning, if you haven't seen the new Practical Magic 2 and you don't want to be spoiled, then you can end it here and come back later. But we all liked it and I think it's worth seeing. If you like the first one. Mm-hmm. And if you hated the first one then maybe just wait for it on streaming. Yeah. Okay. So spoiler warning, you've been warned. Okay, go lace. What'd you think? I totally liked it. So cute and fun and girl power and witches and Yeah. Like there's a lot of on the nose. Like the script is again kinda like the first one, probably the weakest link. But because you have freaking Nicole Gidman and Sandra Ballonc, it doesn't really matter. And you could tell they kind of were like ad libbing the funny moments. I feel like that was I can't believe funny Nicole Goodman was. Out pocket. She was like fantastic. Hilarious in the new one. So good. Yeah. Off the cuff. Thank you. Yeah. Thanks, Lisa. What did you think of it? I really liked it too. And I love the girl power. I loved seeing it with my sisters. And how cute they are. And the double sisters. Yeah. You know, the kids are sisters and love each other so much and bond over being annoyed with their mom 'cause that's their age. And and their mom's a tightly wound. She was actually crazy. I told you. Yeah. but I do think you're right, the script struggled a little bit. A lot of the the good lines that should have pulled at our heartstrings were just so cliche and just kinda A little to on the nose. Yeah. A little tell and not show. Well, I think they showed, but they also told. Mm-hmm. And it was like, okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And what was the other thing? I was annoyed that they suddenly were like talking about how they couldn't be together and I was like, Where did I miss a bunch of their Sandra and Lou Pac when they fell in love? Like, where was that? Yeah. Because it was very there was no like time for them to really develop that. Yes. But I guess that was also the first one. Faded lovers. Yeah. Don't like it. But I still like it overall. And I love the girls, Joey King and Maisie Williams. Mais I do wish she had a little more role. Yeah, hers was pretty background. Yeah. But yeah, they did a good job. Okay. Nice, Lon. I loved it. I thought it was so fun. And I like cried way more than I thought I would. I heard you tear back over there. Crying a lot in this. But it was just that sisterly love and like having to say goodbye to the ants was like, This is a little bit drawn out and I don't like it too too much. My heart is vulnerable here. But it was really sweet. Yeah. Obviously. I loved that the ants had like a nice heavy not heavy roll, but like Yeah. A lot of a lot of presence in the movie. Yeah. And like they kept coming back to like Stockard Janning and and cute Diane Weist. I loved I loved the both of them. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I liked Joey King and Maisie Williams. I think it it's weird to me that like They didn't have Evan Rachel Wood come back. Mm-hmm. And in my head, like Camilla Bell was also the but she was young Sandra Bullock, so she couldn't have come back. Yeah. But I mean they probably could have just had her be the other one and no one would have cared. But yeah. Yeah. It is kind of funny that they did it so that They don't have to age out as much. But it's fine. And I'm gonna con contradict all of you in your quick love because I like it. And with my lights because they're witches, like they're they've got the like into like my molecules like yours. Like it's dumb, but it is very witchy to like trust your little Third sixth sense, whatever whatever it is. Your little witchy intuition. Yeah. So it's and it's fake, so it it's fine. Yeah. Don't do that in real life. Get in. But it's fun. But it's fun for their movies. I like that. Because when he first looked at her And was ignoring Nicole Kidman. And like, then Nicole Kidman saved me. And she's like, Hello. She saved you. Yeah. That was great. So funny. Like he knew something. Yeah. Yeah, like the instant connection. Yeah. The witchy vibe. Like it's just it's there. Yeah. And she was true. Jillian's c character, like in the first movie, how she's like, I got this, let me work my magic when I'm in like her sluttiness. It's really good. She's the best. You smell. Sexuality. Sexuality. It is so good. Well and it's it you can't help your who you're attracted to. Like you either are or you're not. And I love how like Nicole Kidman is standing right there, like one of the most beautiful humans. And he just has all eyes for Sandra Block. It's cute. and Leepace. I do love his introduction too. They're like peeking through and he's not cold. He's naked. He's he's exposed. Exposed exposed. She's like, yeah. She's like anything. It was just giving far and away vibes where and she looks under the bowl. Totally. It is so good. yeah. And then And his voice. His voice. So really good. I love how they said he was huge. When he's like on top of them when they're in their like trip bolts. And then she climbs on top there. I wanted him to stand up with both of them hanging up. That would have been dreamy. I know. That was just for both. I know. I do. You need this to happen. My favorite part of the whole movie might be when Lee Pace says, Excuse me, young lady. She just turns around. I'm starting to like a little bit. Yes, please. That was good. That was so funny. Yeah. And like I'm sure the movie meant it more as like he called her young. Yeah. But the real ones know. Real ones know. The real ones know. Yeah. I have a beef with IMDB IMDB for their top cast. Nowhere is Lee Pace. What? What? I know. I feel like they've got a weird thing lately. They have like all these kids like no pictures. It says botany child. I'm like, I don't even know what that is. They do feel like lately something's off with that. They like messed it up. Somebody did. Something's wrong. Because I remember for something else, I was like, Why did I have to scroll for ten minutes to find like the second lead on this TV show. It's almost like by appearance or whatever. Yeah. Something's weird. That's wrong. Yeah. Something's weird. But yes. Sorry. I'm just having I want to see Lee Pays. Yeah. They really made up for the first movie with Lee Pais. Yeah. He's six foot five. What? Six foot And I thought the other gr I thought the guy was cute, that your guy Gian I don't know how to say his real name. That's okay. I thought he did G Zolo. Maybe. Marijuana? Marijuana? Anyway, yeah. He was cute. He was fine. He was adorable. Yeah. Like girls go for guys like I think he's super cute. Yeah. Yeah. He was in what's it called? I keep forgetting. Cobra Kai. I like the cover. Well, do you know who I'm married to? It's Kevin. I was like, what's happening now? And he was so sweet. His character was such a sweetie beatie pie. Yeah. And his little dimples. I think he's a darling. Yeah. The other guy was You knew he was the villain. He should be a voice actor. I think he does all degrees. Read your book, Stevie. His voice Sully McLeod. This is Sandy Kid Sully MacLeod. In it. You're like doing a Nicole Kidman thing. I know. But like she can do a British action better than her American accent. yeah. She was so funny. I like can't get over how funny Nicole Kidman was in that movie. Yeah. Cause usually like Sandy's the like goofball. Yeah, and she's funny. And she is. Yeah. But I She has to play it so straight. Yeah. I saw an interview with those two and just Sanderbullock kept like commenting on how like p prim and proper s like Nicole Kidman is like just in everything she said and did in the interview. So it's funny to see her be so funny. Yeah. Yeah. Not prim and proper. Exactly. Yeah. It's funny. Between her craft. yeah, just as making fun of how she's like Let's go down to the you know, like her ac her American accent is just so Yeah. American's less Yeah beautiful sounding. And Lee Pace and Nicole are like very prim and proper with their British accents. Yeah. Hers isn't British, hers is Australian. Wait, is Lee Pace Australian? No. British I think he's British. Okay. I think so too. I'll double check. But I know Sandy's er is he's British. Yes, I swear he is. I thought he was American. Chet. Did you guys listen to Sandra Bullock on Polar? He's not. He's from Oklahoma. Don't you he's a British Midwestern boy. Those Midwestern boys, they get big. And he really pulls off the beard. Mm-hmm. Yeah. You know, I kinda wish mom had gone and want her thoughts. She would love him. Yeah. Often mistaken for British because of his aristocratic roles. But Sandra Bullock was on Amy Puller's podcast and it was so funny. It was so funny. But she was talking about how she's like, I hate I'm not like a red carpet girl. And Amy Puller was like, Okay. Yeah. It still me. We've all seen you. You're stunning. You're amazing. You still look amazing. And she's like, Yeah, okay, okay. I'm standing next to Nicole Kidman. Who's like a goddess. So are you Sandra Bullock? Yes. And like, yes, Nicole Kidman is like a freak of nature. Like she's so tall. Her legs are a mile long. But like Sandra Block is stunning. Yeah, Sandra Bullock's like face asymmetry is like crazy amazing. Insane. Yeah. Her eyes anyway, she's gorgeous. Her hair. Her hair. It's incredible. So much of it. so much hair. I know. But anyway, it made me laugh. It's a good interview, you should go listen to it. Cause she's they're both so good. Good hang. Yeah. It is a good hang. Yeah. any other thoughts on the new movie? Mm. Go see it. Yeah, go see it. People who are poo-pooing on it, what is wrong with you? Have some fun in your life. Yeah. Wear a bold lip colour. Live your life. Yes, Elise. Yes. It's it's live a little. Live a little. Live a lot. Live a lot. Yeah. Matt, I just ruined it. No, you do. That's good. Shenanelic. I think it is Live Your Life too. Yeah, she does say Jet tells you to live your life. Yes. Live a little. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah That's what I was saying. Yeah. Okay. Are you a jelly or a Sally? I'm a Sally. Unfortunately. Wanna be a Jelly? I I wish I was a jelly. No, you two are the jillies. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Do we mean Mana the Sally's? Yeah. The Sally's. But I feel like we all have some of both of these. Yeah, everybody has some of those. Of course everyone has things. She's just dominant. Yeah. And Man Alive, may we all get a a leap pay at the end of it. I do I was really glad. I was like, where is he? He's b gotta show up. at the end? Yeah, at the end. Yeah. And he did. Yeah. Yeah, they did good about making you wonder what the big day tomorrow is. I know they did. I thought it was Halloween. I thought it would be Halloween. I thought it would be that Sandra Bulk and Lee. But I liked how they did it. He was there. Yeah. Yeah. I couldn't tell. What did you think it was gonna be, Lise? Well I thought they're being so Choice. It's probably not the kids because that's too obvious. But then it was. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. What? I said Uno reverse. Unless you said a double negative. It's just positive. Like just happened. I don't believe for a second that those people would have stayed at at that wedding till midnight in a way. Yeah. And they're East Coast, so they stay up till all hours. Maybe. They like don't have dinner till eight, so I believe that it's Europeans, but yes. And East Coasters. Because they're a waitress, California. They work they work so late 'cause they have to stay up for the West Coast. Western is very poor work life balance. That's one thing I noticed a lot. I was like, I'll stay here. I'll be here. you guys don't see your families. that's a shame. Okay. any other things? I really feel like they understood that The house is like the fifth cast member. Yeah. Like it was especially the second one too. They were like, We're gonna really twist the knife that you don't get to live here. Did you do any research on that? Is it the same? Did they buy the same or build up the same house again? I mean they did all the same on the outside. I didn't do any research on the new movie, but I have seen some reels on my Instagram feed about how they like the kitchen they had to handmake all the tiles 'cause like they couldn't find a tile that w worked for the those tiles. So they handmade all. Wow. And they had to like rig all the cabinets to be able to like open and close. And They like we tried to light it a little more this time so you can see it better. It did look better. Like the whole house was was more lit than the original. Mm-hmm. And like you get to see more rooms, like you get to see Jetty's room and Sally's room. It incredible. I want that. Like the furniture and the fireplace. Fireplace. Like that armoire next to the spindle b bed. Mm-hmm. Whatever those are what are those things? Poster. Four poster bed, yeah. man. Spindle things. my god. The design is the spindle, but the poster of the bed. Yeah. Ugh, yeah. Everything was so pretty. In London. In London town. We got to go to London. And I loved how tiny it was and that we face in Nicole and we had a like duck. Walk around in there. Yes. That's so funny that they did that. I know. It's like was everybody five two? Back in the day? Yes. I was watching again another reel and it was like architectural diedress, you know, like celebrities will show their houses. And it was what's her face? She's so pretty from She's on The movie with where Claire Danes is a star stardust? Yes. Sienna Miller. Sienna Miller like showing her like incredible English her Cotswolds Cotswolds cottage and the ceiling was so low and like her tiny. But it was so pretty and cozy and that was cute. But yeah, one hundred percent like what it was like. She was. I know. An Lee Pays would just bent over. yeah. So huge. Was his mom Vanessa Redgrave? Maybe I don't think so. I don't think so. But it was so cute. I do like how he had pie. I don't know if that was a nod to his show called Pushing Daisies, where he was the pie maker. that's good. That show is really good if you want a quirky show. Yeah. Yeah, I think there's only like two seasons. It's very fun though. Like there's magic and there's two aunts that are like twin sisters that are nut burgers. There's they used to be famous synchronized swimmers. It's very quirky. Yeah, it's super quirky. And what's it on? It's on plastic. Where can you stream it? Okay. I don't know. It's I think it was A B C back in the day. What are we talking about? Pushing daisies. And I loved I loved the detail of him giving her the custard. Yeah. Totally. She didn't even have to ask. She just did that custom. And like the next morning she wakes up and like falls off the bed. Yeah. It looked delicious too. The whole pie looked amazing. The whole thing. Yeah. Yeah. I wish they had like gotten more time to develop their romance. Or this like Sally had been a little less uptight about it because she was so Standoffish. I mean that's her character. Yeah, we need a lead paste to enter earlier. Yeah. To un Unplug her. Sure. Block. Unblock. Block, that's what he did. He unblocked her. I loved how he like did that. Nicole Kimm's like, I'm loving this. She was perfection. She was so much. She really was. I loved it. Like I really liked it. I didn't surprise how low the things are. But the second one again. That's what I'm saying. Like I think it's Not necessarily the first one just I don't know. Well and the first one's like it's kind of a hard watch because there is so much domestic violence and abuse that you're just like, I hate this. Yeah. If but if it was Keanu Reeves, you'd like, Yeah, I've been watching this every year. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I can just faster. Fade in love with Keanu Reeves. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, I'm I liked it. I liked the second one. It was cute. And I thought I loved that like they the way that they lifted the curse was so cute. Like stalker chanting her ending with cute Diane Weist, like waiting for her was really cute. I loved like Nicole and Sandra Bullock when they're like going in to save the girl and she's like, You're my like no matter what happens today, like you're my person. I loved that. So cutily. Mm-hmm. My sister. It was really special seeing it with my sisters. Totally. Yeah, I have you guys. I just felt like lucky of like, it's Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman again in another like practical magic witchy movie. Like I love this. With with Star Jenning and and Diane Weestigan in the house again. Yeah. Yeah. Like I just felt like, they made this for me. Yeah. Mm-hmm. And I And there's a lot of us out there that they made it for. Yeah. And like they made it for like our age group. Mm-hmm. And millennial women close. And like Gen X. Some Gen Xers in there. Yeah. And I'm excited to like show the second one to my girls because they watched the first one with me. And they liked it but they didn't Love it. I think they liked it more at the end. Like the the beginning kinda like is choppy. Yeah. And there's so much exposition to get through with like the family history and like the first husband and then he dies and then all the things. So I felt like the second one, the plot flows a little smoother. Yeah. For sure. And it's just funnier. A little more lighthearted. Mm-hmm. So anyway, any other thoughts? I did want a like how she kisses Gary. I needed that for her. Well she kisses him at the wedding. She wanted hotter and heavier. Yeah. She wanted him she wanted her to jump on him. Whatever. On all the things. You gotta go full koala on that giant man. Yes. So I just I'm just saying it was good, but I wouldn't have minded a little more. A little more. Lose it on this freaking beautiful man. Yeah. Yeah. The way that like the first movie. Yeah. Mm hmm. I know. And like hot and heavy wasn't well there was really wanted more than hot and heavy. Well some hands and hair. I don't know. Yeah. We need something. 'Cause I feel like they would have been really good. Like maybe they both needed to like k get out of their skin. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. 'Cause he was very calm and collected too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just need a little more. Let out the horn dog. Do you think they'll do another one? I hope so, and that Gillian gets some some man meat. I know that was my first thought of like who's a tall enough actor? You used up Leap Ace. You did. She's so tall. But anyway. Who did you say, Lon? You had like an idea. Skarsgird. yeah. Wiggler or not trailer. Chili could make her own basket man. Perfect. Perfect. She's a witch. That would be perfect. And he is nice and tall, and they were together in big little eyes. Mmm. I didn't see that ever. it's really good. I didn't need it. It has It's Nicole Kidd, he's six four. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Reese Featherspoon. I think those two like produced it. Nice. Laura Dern. I love her. Her character is my favorite. And then Shailen Woodley. I like her too. Yeah. And they they're all moms that live in this area of California that's beautiful. And Alexander Skarsgard is Nicole Kidman's abusive husband. boo. I know. And the and Zoe Kravitz is in there too. And she's good. Shailen Woodley like moves in, she's like new and she like their kids start hanging out. And Reese Witherspoon's husband is Adam Scott. the cones. Yes. And anyway, it's good. It's like drama. It's a drama. And it's it's the one it's it's the kind where it starts with like the inciting incident and someone has died. Mm-hmm. But you don't know who and then it flashes back. Back to And it it's interspersed with like p people's interviews with the cops. Mm. Kind of narrating the story a little bit. But it's yeah. I mean all those ladies are amazing. And then the second season has Meryl Streep. Yeah. But it it's not as good. Yeah. But I think they're doing a third one if I heard correctly. Which I don't know. So anyway. Yeah. And Reese. Yeah. Yeah. Women's stories matter. They just one Q Reese Witherspoon. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Get it, girl. Yeah. It's it's HBO, so it's not safe for work. And there's some T V stuff to watch. And yeah. But it's Won all the awards. Some can. Anyway. Anything else? what are we want what are we gonna do next week? I do. Last of the Moa Hekans, I looked it up. yeah, on it this one. I do too. The music is Again my favorite the least amount of dialogue that there ever could be. Lots of running. Lots of amounts. The ending sequence of that movie is one of my all time favorites of all time. The soundtrack is literally my favorite of all time. Yeah. You can't. You can't be that. You really can't. And it's Daniel Day Lewis and his prime Mom. Mom used to watch this is probably why I like it. Mom used to watch it all the time. I know. That's where I got it from and I stole her copy and I would watch it at night in my room. I remember Lon. I knew it. I had like I like his face. There's a lot of violence in that. The other guy, the cute guy. Yeah. This is Michael Mann. Peak Michael Mann for me. He's the director that did Heat that every gun's, which is fine. But this is my favorite of his movies. And it's Madeline Kahn. Is that her name? No, not Madeline Kahn. Madeline Stowe? Is that her name? She's gorgeous. She's just stunning. Anyway. So go both. I feel like a lot of people in this are just beautiful people. Yeah. Her and her sister. The brother. Eric Schweig. Schweig not the brother. The son. Uncas. The brother. Yeah. yeah. He's Danny DeLewis' brother. Like adoptive brother. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So watch Last of the Mohicans. That's your homework. And get ready. Yeah. And be warned it's kinda violent. yeah, very good. But it's got some the iconic scenes of all time. So okay. Did we do it? I think we did it.
