00:00:00.322 --> 00:00:09.051
And I think the best teacher we have is looking at our own issues because everything that others have, we have had.
00:00:09.051 --> 00:00:11.593
And how did we get through it?
00:00:11.593 --> 00:00:25.189
So I think instead of just going by what somebody says in a book, well, Joe said this, or Stephen Covey said this, or somebody else, some big writer today said this.
00:00:25.189 --> 00:00:27.710
Oh, I just have one more story.
00:00:27.710 --> 00:00:30.173
I remember I went to a workshop once.
00:00:30.562 --> 00:00:37.231

00:01:44.837 --> 00:01:48.402
So it's a pleasure for me to have her on the podcast today.
00:01:48.402 --> 00:01:49.942
Welcome to the show, Patricia.
00:01:50.304 --> 00:01:51.525
Thank you so much.
00:01:51.525 --> 00:01:53.606
That was a fabulous introduction.
00:01:53.606 --> 00:01:55.649
I am so excited to be here.
00:01:55.649 --> 00:01:56.831
I really am.
00:01:56.831 --> 00:02:03.257
And I think it's interesting in my preparation for this, I probably learned a a lot more about myself.
00:02:03.257 --> 00:02:06.641
And that's what life is about, is learning who we are.
00:02:06.641 --> 00:02:08.524
And
00:02:08.723 --> 00:02:14.289
I'm here to ask you today, what inspired you to become a coach and then start your own coaching business?
00:02:14.289 --> 00:02:16.432
So I want to learn more from you.
00:02:17.234 --> 00:02:26.484
I think that's an excellent question because it really made me think I was in corporate America for a number of years in human resources.
00:02:26.484 --> 00:02:32.850
But even going back in my childhood, I was the oldest of four children.
00:02:32.850 --> 00:02:41.679
And I think that I learned leadership at that point because I was older and I took care of them.
00:02:41.679 --> 00:02:45.562
And then I went into school and it was the same thing.
00:02:45.562 --> 00:02:47.284
This is what inspired me.
00:02:47.284 --> 00:02:52.169
I became the coach and the person that a lot of people came to.
00:02:52.169 --> 00:03:01.038
Even in my sports, I played a lot of sports and they always wanted me to be the leader.
00:03:01.038 --> 00:03:03.695
And it was fun.
00:03:03.695 --> 00:03:04.576
I liked it.
00:03:04.576 --> 00:03:09.361
And I like center stage anyway, so it was a good opportunity for me.
00:03:09.361 --> 00:03:13.765
But I think from the very beginning, I'll never forget.
00:03:13.765 --> 00:03:16.829
I want to tell this one story because I'll never forget.
00:03:16.829 --> 00:03:24.877
I had an old car and it was high school and I had several of my friends in there.
00:03:24.877 --> 00:03:28.240
And I don't want to sound like a prude, but maybe I am.
00:03:28.240 --> 00:03:32.092
But anyway, this man wanted to smoke.
00:03:32.092 --> 00:03:35.074
And I said, not in my car.
00:03:35.074 --> 00:03:45.705
Now it was an old junker, but I said, not in my car, but I'll pull over at the side of the road and then you can get out and smoke and then get back in and we'll go on.
00:03:45.705 --> 00:03:52.032
And from that point on, I realized that people had a lot of respect for me.
00:03:52.032 --> 00:03:58.780
We stopped the car, he got out and they trusted me for guidance.
00:03:58.780 --> 00:04:07.415
I didn't put them down for what they did, but I simply gave them other options to do.
00:04:07.415 --> 00:04:10.981
And I think that was the main thing.
00:04:10.981 --> 00:04:23.939
Now in corporate America, Like I said, I was in human resources and I had a lot of opportunity to do coaching because I recruited at a lot of schools.
00:04:23.939 --> 00:04:35.132
I'm from Indiana and I recruited at specifically engineering schools because I was in a diesel engine company.
00:04:35.132 --> 00:04:46.002
And I'll never forget, I think this was when I really woke up to I have the ability to coach and shift people's life.
00:04:46.002 --> 00:05:03.726
Sang Bui was one of the interns that I brought from the university and his family had all gone into medical and his mom and dad said, you need to go into something that's going to pay a lot of money and so you'll have a good living.
00:05:03.726 --> 00:05:14.204
And he was Vietnamese and he said, Patricia, I've been in civil engineering, I've been in mechanical, I've been in electrical.
00:05:14.204 --> 00:05:15.247
I don't like it.
00:05:15.247 --> 00:05:16.608
This was his third year.
00:05:16.608 --> 00:05:25.038
And I had him as an intern at Cummins in the engineering department at my company, at the engineering department.
00:05:25.038 --> 00:05:29.786
And he said, I want to do what you want to do.
00:05:29.786 --> 00:05:32.788
I asked him, what do you really want to do, Sang?
00:05:32.788 --> 00:05:35.973
And he said, I want to do what you're doing.
00:05:35.973 --> 00:05:39.036
And I said, I've got an idea.
00:05:39.036 --> 00:05:43.923
I want you to come back one more internship.
00:05:43.923 --> 00:05:47.829
And I'm going to put you in the engineering department.
00:05:47.829 --> 00:05:50.613
And then I want you to come back.
00:05:50.613 --> 00:05:52.276
I'll hire you.
00:05:52.276 --> 00:05:57.343
And I want you to come back and work two years in the engineering department.
00:05:57.343 --> 00:06:06.177
And then I will bring you in to human resources in coaching and development, talent development.
00:06:06.177 --> 00:06:09.213
That's exactly what we did.
00:06:09.213 --> 00:06:12.744
There's always a way to get what you wanted.
00:06:12.744 --> 00:06:18.040
And he was so excited because he was still in engineering.
00:06:18.040 --> 00:06:20.196
where his parents wanted him.
00:06:20.196 --> 00:06:25.742
However, he had the opportunity to coach people coming into engineering.
00:06:25.742 --> 00:06:31.507
So there's another, and so I think that's a time that I really thought I wanna do this.
00:06:31.507 --> 00:06:43.019
And then I left the company after a couple of years and started my own business of doing coaching and consulting, mostly contracting work.
00:06:43.620 --> 00:06:47.425
So contracting work, meaning you working for other companies
00:06:47.785 --> 00:06:47.944
as well?
00:06:48.386 --> 00:06:48.446
Yes.
00:06:48.706 --> 00:06:55.014
It was specifically a company that helped organizations during downsizing.
00:06:55.014 --> 00:06:58.218
And they were letting people go.
00:06:58.218 --> 00:07:05.466
And I was there to help them transition into their new position.
00:07:05.466 --> 00:07:08.930
Now, sometimes they would stay in the same field.
00:07:08.930 --> 00:07:14.437
And then other times they would transition out to something else through our coaching.
00:07:14.437 --> 00:07:21.524
And I think I'm not a big, a resume is important.
00:07:21.524 --> 00:07:27.800
However, a resume is only one piece of who we are.
00:07:27.800 --> 00:07:29.302
It's the paper piece.
00:07:29.302 --> 00:07:43.911
And I think that that piece can be a real motivator though, because once you get it on paper, and I'm a big person about writing because I am a writer, but once you get it on paper, you can see yourself different.
00:07:43.911 --> 00:07:51.744
And I think a lot of them switched careers and said, I didn't know I could do something like that, Patricia.
00:07:51.744 --> 00:07:53.466
I am so excited.
00:07:53.466 --> 00:07:55.149
And I said, do you see?
00:07:55.149 --> 00:08:00.197
I had people coming right out of college that had worked to go to college.
00:08:00.197 --> 00:08:05.764
And they said, well, I can't do that because I'm just graduating from college.
00:08:05.764 --> 00:08:08.050
You've got all this work experience.
00:08:08.050 --> 00:08:09.553
Let's look at that.
00:08:09.553 --> 00:08:15.309
So I think that typically we don't see that as...
00:08:15.309 --> 00:08:23.115
I don't say we, a lot of organizations or a lot of people think, I just graduated, I don't have any experience.
00:08:23.115 --> 00:08:24.237
That's not true.
00:08:24.237 --> 00:08:39.099
If you babysat or if you worked in food industry or you worked on a farm, whatever, or in your parents' business or you mowed grass, I wanted to give them credit for that experience.
00:08:39.099 --> 00:08:44.065
And I think sometimes we don't see that as...
00:08:44.065 --> 00:08:47.615
skills that is something they've had.
00:08:47.615 --> 00:09:01.423
It transitions and all skills are transferable to different environments if we start thinking about how could that transfer into this organization or into this kind of position.
00:09:01.823 --> 00:09:12.505
And who are Typically, the people that you end up working with, is there a specific audience that you generally like to work with and happen to work with?
00:09:12.505 --> 00:09:15.029
In a specific industry or demographic?
00:09:15.510 --> 00:09:17.453
I've been in every kind of industry.
00:09:17.453 --> 00:09:21.542
The auto industry, warehouser, Capital One.
00:09:21.542 --> 00:09:26.048
People are people, no matter where I go.
00:09:26.048 --> 00:09:27.884
They're all the same.
00:09:27.884 --> 00:09:31.229
They just maybe have different titles and different jobs.
00:09:31.229 --> 00:09:42.307
But I do like the diversity of industries because I think, and even with coaches, I think they get too pigeonholed.
00:09:42.307 --> 00:09:46.813
And then they can't...
00:09:46.813 --> 00:09:48.677
I'll say this about myself.
00:09:48.677 --> 00:09:54.345
And sometimes I have to step outside of that just because they've been in...
00:09:54.345 --> 00:10:05.774
This kind of an industry, let's say the credit card industry or the banking industry forever, does not mean that those skills are not transferable someplace else.
00:10:05.774 --> 00:10:11.700
So sometimes they just don't want to stay in that industry anymore, not because of anything.
00:10:11.700 --> 00:10:15.664
I just had a woman recently that came to me.
00:10:15.664 --> 00:10:19.308
And if I'm not answering your questions, you tell me.
00:10:19.308 --> 00:10:24.053
But she recently came to me and she was a CPA.
00:10:24.053 --> 00:10:28.163
And she said, Patricia, I don't like this.
00:10:28.163 --> 00:10:33.591
I am not just the person that sits behind the computer and taps in numbers.
00:10:33.591 --> 00:10:34.693
They don't talk back.
00:10:34.693 --> 00:10:40.984
And some people think they do talk back, but they like accounting or they like finance.
00:10:40.984 --> 00:10:43.467
But she said, I just don't want to do that.
00:10:43.467 --> 00:10:49.456
Now, this is going to take you into how I am a different kind of coach.
00:10:49.456 --> 00:11:34.321
her family's her mother-in-law to be sent her to me and said i want you to go talk to patricia if you don't like cpa work anymore or finance work and her parents had coached her into going in that direction because they said there's money there you can get in the top level and um she said but i'm not happy and she had a great job but anyway i said well i'm not like most coaches I remember I am a message artist and I like to use performance-based and creative-based and activity-based workshops and coaching styles.
00:11:34.321 --> 00:11:40.188
So I said, I do do an assessment as my first step in your coaching.
00:11:40.188 --> 00:11:48.062
But it's not about are you purple or green or are you an ENFP or are you a tiger or a lion?
00:11:48.062 --> 00:11:51.368
I'm not using that kind of an assessment.
00:11:51.368 --> 00:11:54.592
I said, here's the assessment that I have for you.
00:11:54.592 --> 00:11:58.620
So if you have a piece of paper and a pencil, I want you to write it down.
00:11:58.620 --> 00:11:59.863
This is what I tell her.
00:11:59.863 --> 00:12:02.187
And don't talk.
00:12:02.187 --> 00:12:06.192
Whatever comes to you, write it on a piece of paper.
00:12:06.192 --> 00:12:15.147
Because you remember I said we discover a lot about ourselves when we write and then can go back and look at it.
00:12:15.147 --> 00:12:19.030
So anyway, I said, just answer the question.
00:12:19.030 --> 00:12:21.874
So I asked her the first question.
00:12:21.874 --> 00:12:28.061
And I said, this is not going to be your typical ICF questions and all that.
00:12:28.061 --> 00:12:30.222
And I said, so what kind of shoe are you?
00:12:30.222 --> 00:12:31.904
Don't tell me.
00:12:31.904 --> 00:12:32.806
Write it down.
00:12:32.806 --> 00:12:35.533
Who does your shoe like to hang around with?
00:12:35.533 --> 00:12:44.086
If your shoe could do anything besides accounting or finance kind of work, what would your shoe like to do?
00:12:44.086 --> 00:12:46.269
Where would your shoe like to live?
00:12:46.269 --> 00:12:55.722
And after I had a series of questions and after we had those questions, I said, take three minutes now and look over what you just wrote.
00:12:55.722 --> 00:13:00.230
And I want you to tell me, who are you and what is your vision?
00:13:00.230 --> 00:13:02.634
Now, this is a true story.
00:13:02.634 --> 00:13:07.172
When she was leaving, I said, do you think that's unusual?
00:13:07.172 --> 00:13:11.017
And she said, well, I've never had a coaching session like that before.
00:13:11.017 --> 00:13:20.730
But she said, the funny thing is, it made me think where I'd really like to live and what I really like to do.
00:13:20.730 --> 00:13:22.572
And it ain't where I am.
00:13:22.572 --> 00:13:24.475
And I said, well, good.
00:13:24.475 --> 00:13:26.359
That's what I was hoping would happen.
00:13:26.359 --> 00:13:37.136
And the last question I asked her as she was going out the door was, Tell me When you're going to leave, it was a big corporation.
00:13:37.136 --> 00:13:39.899
When are you going to leave this company?
00:13:39.899 --> 00:13:42.400
This will only be between you and me.
00:13:42.400 --> 00:13:43.842
It's not going to be recorded.
00:13:43.842 --> 00:13:47.086
And she said, well, I'd like to leave in the spring.
00:13:47.086 --> 00:13:48.866
This was October of 2023.
00:13:48.866 --> 00:13:53.311
She said, I'd like to leave in the spring of 24.
00:13:53.311 --> 00:13:56.212
I said, I think you misunderstood the question.
00:13:56.212 --> 00:13:58.775
I didn't ask you when you'd like to leave.
00:13:58.775 --> 00:14:02.639
I asked you, when are you going to leave?
00:14:02.639 --> 00:14:11.770
And you know that That's another thing that happens, Rexon, is that we talk about it, but we don't commit.
00:14:11.770 --> 00:14:14.674
And that's the problem.
00:14:14.674 --> 00:14:20.783
But anyway, about a week later, okay, so anyway, she said, I'm leaving in two weeks.
00:14:20.783 --> 00:14:23.466
I said, ooh, wow, that's fast.
00:14:23.466 --> 00:14:31.426
But then I said, that'll give you time to give them some time to get position so they can fill the job.
00:14:31.426 --> 00:14:37.355
She called me about seven to 10 days later and she said, could you have some time to talk?
00:14:37.355 --> 00:14:38.576
And I said, absolutely.
00:14:38.576 --> 00:14:41.080
And that's another thing I want to point out here.
00:14:41.080 --> 00:14:44.706
I don't set up a series of coaching sessions.
00:14:44.706 --> 00:14:50.354
Most coaches set up, you can buy a package of six sessions.
00:14:50.354 --> 00:14:51.456
I don't do that.
00:14:51.456 --> 00:14:56.676
My goal is to empower my client To take action.
00:14:56.676 --> 00:14:59.499
So I said, sure.
00:14:59.499 --> 00:15:01.802
Do you want to schedule a session?
00:15:01.802 --> 00:15:03.784
No, she said, I only need five minutes.
00:15:03.784 --> 00:15:05.486
And I said, good.
00:15:05.486 --> 00:15:08.431
She said, you'll never believe this.
00:15:08.431 --> 00:15:11.655
And yes, I would believe it because miracles happen.
00:15:11.655 --> 00:15:16.621
And I hadn't heard from my college buddy for five years.
00:15:16.621 --> 00:15:19.206
We both got our careers and we just went off.
00:15:19.206 --> 00:15:23.751
And she said, he called and said, I've been thinking about you.
00:15:23.751 --> 00:15:25.114
What are you up to?
00:15:25.114 --> 00:15:28.710
And she said, you'll never believe this.
00:15:28.710 --> 00:15:31.673
I'm leaving the company that I went to work for.
00:15:31.673 --> 00:15:32.735
I've got a great job.
00:15:32.735 --> 00:15:34.056
Anyway, they talked.
00:15:34.056 --> 00:15:37.139
Guess what he did as a living in his job?
00:15:37.139 --> 00:15:38.682
A recruiter.
00:15:38.682 --> 00:15:40.784
That's what she is now.
00:15:40.784 --> 00:15:42.787
She wanted to talk to people.
00:15:42.787 --> 00:15:45.591
She didn't want to be in front of a computer all the time.
00:15:45.591 --> 00:15:52.820
She wanted to be like you and me where we could see each other and feel like we knew the person.
00:15:52.820 --> 00:16:02.638
And she said, Okay, about a month or six weeks later, she called me and she said, I helped my company transition to a new person.
00:16:02.638 --> 00:16:05.186
I even came back on board and trained them.
00:16:05.186 --> 00:16:08.416
And she said, now I'm having a great life.
00:16:08.416 --> 00:16:13.034
I'm not saying that I know the answers.
00:16:13.034 --> 00:16:15.837
I'm saying you know the answers.
00:16:15.837 --> 00:16:19.162
And I just want you to say them, that's all, as a coach.
00:16:19.582 --> 00:16:20.783
Yeah, absolutely.
00:16:20.783 --> 00:16:24.649
Thank you so much for walking us through that story.
00:16:24.649 --> 00:16:28.013
It really explained your point perfectly.
00:16:28.013 --> 00:16:35.182
And for me, I want to understand better, how do you see your...
00:16:35.182 --> 00:16:44.116
coaching business in the next one to three years do you have any goals in mind for the next one to three years with your coaching business
00:16:44.177 --> 00:17:07.077
oh absolutely my family always says excuse me what's next Patricia what are you up to now so do my friends because I old as dirt but I can't sit still I've got to be doing it's either writing a book or being in a creative a show or whatever.
00:17:07.077 --> 00:17:10.402
But anyway, this is what I see myself doing.
00:17:10.402 --> 00:17:14.527
As a matter of fact, I think it's funny how synchronicities happen.
00:17:14.527 --> 00:17:22.576
I got a text from the woman that is designing, I'm designing a new website.
00:17:22.576 --> 00:17:28.191
And I'm moving and How can I say?
00:17:28.191 --> 00:17:50.029
It's not an invention because I know there are things like this out there, but I'm embracing intuitive coaching and I'm calling all of that that I do intuitive coaching because I'm trying to get, my goal is to get to the soul of the person and not just to create another job or to fit into another job.
00:17:50.029 --> 00:17:52.332
But fine, what is your passion?
00:17:52.332 --> 00:17:54.334
What do you really want to do?
00:17:54.334 --> 00:17:55.454
What are you here for?
00:17:55.454 --> 00:18:06.934
So, The next phase of my work is as As you said earlier, I turn camps into cans and dreams into plans.
00:18:06.934 --> 00:18:07.977
That's my mission.
00:18:07.977 --> 00:18:12.201
And I want to do it in different ways.
00:18:12.201 --> 00:18:13.962
And I've been testing this.
00:18:13.962 --> 00:18:18.167
I had a TV show recently called High Heels Cabaret.
00:18:18.167 --> 00:18:25.997
And it's a performance-based show where individuals can come on there and express.
00:18:25.997 --> 00:18:30.642
Because, you know, I truly believe that our society...
00:18:30.642 --> 00:19:05.519
is the problems we have today is because people the soul says let me express let me say what i know in my heart and so sometimes we have to have help getting that out me too i coach because i learn from myself but anyway we have a society that feels like they don't know how to express, but the heart and the soul and the body is saying, I just want to say what I know.
00:19:05.519 --> 00:19:19.873
And so as we go through that expression, people or that time of learning how to express, we have to expose them to different ways to express.
00:19:19.873 --> 00:19:27.702
They'll go to a show, to a movie, and they'll see a movie, and they get moved by one line in that movie.
00:19:27.702 --> 00:19:29.266
It's stuck with them.
00:19:29.266 --> 00:19:42.864
And I'll never forget, in my High Heels Cabaret show, I had this woman, she's a songwriter, and she's in her late 60s, early 70s, and she wrote a song, Bingo Wings.
00:19:42.864 --> 00:19:45.567
I may have told you this before, I don't know.
00:19:45.567 --> 00:19:52.507
But It's the floppy skin under as we get older and maybe anybody can have it.
00:19:52.507 --> 00:19:56.153
But she wrote that song and I called her.
00:19:56.153 --> 00:19:57.615
This is how I coach.
00:19:57.615 --> 00:20:04.208
I said, I want you to be in my show and I want you to be a comedian.
00:20:04.208 --> 00:20:07.432
She said, I'm not a comedian for heaven's sakes.
00:20:07.432 --> 00:20:10.337
I'm a composer and a filmmaker.
00:20:10.337 --> 00:20:12.281
I said, you're a comedian.
00:20:12.281 --> 00:20:18.511
And so we talked about the Bingo Wings song while we were on the phone then.
00:20:18.511 --> 00:20:23.076
And we both laughed so hard that, well, you know what happens next when you laugh too hard.
00:20:23.076 --> 00:20:27.260
And so anyway, she came on the show.
00:20:27.260 --> 00:20:33.867
And she sang Bingo Wings, told the story about it, and then sang it.
00:20:33.867 --> 00:20:35.589
And it's funny.
00:20:35.589 --> 00:20:36.730
She was so funny.
00:20:36.730 --> 00:20:39.614
One guy actually fell out of his chair.
00:20:39.614 --> 00:20:45.565
He was laughing so hard and I said, see Val, you are a comedian.
00:20:45.565 --> 00:20:50.211
We don't know who we are until we're allowed to express.
00:20:50.211 --> 00:21:02.066
So in the next phase of, you asked me what I'm doing next and what I'm planning, I am building a new website and I want it to be more open.
00:21:02.066 --> 00:21:06.550
Yeah, a young woman is designing it.
00:21:06.550 --> 00:21:13.558
She interviewed me and she said, Patricia, my generation's going to understand exactly what you're talking about.
00:21:13.558 --> 00:21:18.545
And I said, well, so does the older, because almost everybody I had on my show was older.
00:21:18.545 --> 00:21:25.473
And because here's what inspired me years ago was I like Shakespeare.
00:21:25.473 --> 00:21:29.638
Shakespeare taught about life through the arts.
00:21:29.638 --> 00:21:37.160
And so I'm using the arts because I think words are dead.
00:21:37.160 --> 00:21:52.200
We have heard the words so many times and I may have shared this with you before, but I was doing a workshop at a corporation in Tennessee and I asked, have any of you been to a communication workshop before?
00:21:52.200 --> 00:21:56.305
And they all raised their hand and they said, yes, we have, sure.
00:21:56.305 --> 00:21:58.268
I said, well, are you slow learners?
00:21:58.268 --> 00:21:59.430
Why are you back again?
00:21:59.430 --> 00:22:04.545
Because I think that the problem is words are dead anymore.
00:22:04.545 --> 00:22:09.712
We have abused them to the point that they don't mean anything.
00:22:09.712 --> 00:22:11.035
Oh yeah, I've heard that before.
00:22:11.035 --> 00:22:12.237
Now I can go to sleep.
00:22:12.237 --> 00:22:13.097
No.
00:22:13.097 --> 00:22:18.506
So I believe that the arts is a way to wake people up.
00:22:18.506 --> 00:22:32.459
So that's the direction of my next phase of my coaching is I may dress up like a magician and pass out magic wands and and tell people, you got the magic within yourself.
00:22:32.459 --> 00:22:33.961
Let's talk more about it.
00:22:33.961 --> 00:22:37.228
I have a one-woman show that I do.
00:22:37.228 --> 00:22:39.111
It's about a woman in midlife.
00:22:39.111 --> 00:22:47.345
And she discovers maybe life's not over, but just beginning again in the show.
00:22:47.345 --> 00:22:53.095
So I want to use, in some of the different kind of ways, masking.
00:22:53.095 --> 00:22:54.877
I want the mask on.
00:22:54.877 --> 00:22:57.221
Authenticity is so important.
00:22:57.221 --> 00:23:02.748
So I'll wear a mask in, and I've done this in corporations right here in Nashville, Tennessee.
00:23:02.748 --> 00:23:06.311
People loved it because they didn't know what was next.
00:23:06.311 --> 00:23:10.037
So they couldn't plan their statement about what they were going to say.
00:23:10.037 --> 00:23:15.163
And I think coaching sets people up just to say what they think people want to hear.
00:23:15.163 --> 00:23:16.265
I don't.
00:23:16.265 --> 00:23:19.167
I said to the lady, I don't think you understood the question.
00:23:19.167 --> 00:23:21.510
And I'm pretty bold about that.
00:23:21.510 --> 00:23:23.314
And then hello, self.
00:23:23.314 --> 00:23:44.915
is uh it's conversations with self so i invite people to come up and say what could you say to yourself if you knew at six years old or 10 years old or 15 who you are today so um i think that arts No, I'm not thinking.
00:23:44.915 --> 00:23:46.739
And I use cards.
00:23:46.739 --> 00:23:48.461
I created a deck of cards.
00:23:48.461 --> 00:23:51.826
So I also read cards as part of that.
00:23:51.826 --> 00:23:53.728
It's an entertainment focus.
00:23:53.728 --> 00:23:59.516
Now, the idea about that is it's not giving people the answer.
00:23:59.516 --> 00:24:04.061
It's showing that there are multiple ways to touch cards.
00:24:04.061 --> 00:24:08.097
the soul of who we are and discover our passion.
00:24:08.097 --> 00:24:10.300
So I want to go into the arts.
00:24:10.300 --> 00:24:12.923
And I've always been in the arts.
00:24:12.923 --> 00:24:15.267
I've always done acting and performing.
00:24:15.267 --> 00:24:22.977
But I like it from that standpoint that I think it's not words.
00:24:22.977 --> 00:24:26.340
It may be words, but it's a combination.
00:24:26.340 --> 00:24:30.085
If nothing else, they'll remember the magician outfit.
00:24:30.085 --> 00:24:36.224
I remember I was doing this work with one group Oh my gosh, I've got so many stories.
00:24:36.224 --> 00:24:39.249
Somebody said the other day, write a book about all these.
00:24:39.249 --> 00:24:43.796
But I was at a restaurant and we had a room off by herself.
00:24:43.796 --> 00:24:49.204
And I was doing this abracadabra of life, dressed like a magician and pastor.
00:24:49.204 --> 00:24:54.813
And as I was leaving, there was a table of adults and children.
00:24:54.813 --> 00:24:58.662
And they said, come and read our fortune.
00:24:58.662 --> 00:25:01.424
Come and tell us, magician.
00:25:01.424 --> 00:25:04.788
And so I went over, and it was children.
00:25:04.788 --> 00:25:11.137
They were little girls here to be in a softball tournament.
00:25:11.137 --> 00:25:14.422
And they said, are we going to win?
00:25:14.422 --> 00:25:17.365
And I said, well, I'm going to ask you the question.
00:25:17.365 --> 00:25:20.690
And I'm going to give you the magic wand, first of all.
00:25:20.690 --> 00:25:23.574
And then I'll ask you, are you...
00:25:23.574 --> 00:25:25.015
going to win?
00:25:25.015 --> 00:25:26.778
Is your team going to win?
00:25:26.778 --> 00:25:32.586
And these little girls were 10 and 12 years old and they said, yes.
00:25:32.586 --> 00:25:35.029
Did you wave the magic wand?
00:25:35.029 --> 00:25:36.771
So they waved it.
00:25:36.771 --> 00:25:39.797
And guess what?
00:25:39.797 --> 00:25:40.837
I gave them a business.
00:25:40.837 --> 00:25:42.480
I gave the mom and dad a business.
00:25:42.480 --> 00:25:44.242
First of all, I asked permission.
00:25:44.242 --> 00:25:46.306
It was okay to talk to the little girls.
00:25:46.306 --> 00:25:49.770
And then I gave them a business card when I left.
00:25:49.770 --> 00:25:59.659
And, um, I got a contact, I got a call, I mean a text message on Monday after that weekend.
00:25:59.659 --> 00:26:09.074
And they said, we just wanted to let you know that the girls believe so much in that magic wand that we won the tournament.
00:26:09.074 --> 00:26:12.118
You know, that's all it takes, Rex.
00:26:12.118 --> 00:26:16.026
And it's all it takes is a different perspective.
00:26:16.026 --> 00:26:17.843
in our life.
00:26:17.843 --> 00:26:21.626
And I think that people are open to that now.
00:26:22.307 --> 00:26:26.111
What is right now a challenge for you in your coaching business that you're trying to solve for?
00:26:26.151 --> 00:26:30.935
Yeah, that's fabulous because I've been thinking about this.
00:26:30.935 --> 00:26:35.461
One of the things is I'm not like anybody else.
00:26:35.461 --> 00:26:54.028
So when I get out there, and I think one of the things that I liked most that I've done is I had a monthly group that it was the same group all the time, and they would pay a certain amount to come to the sessions.
00:26:54.028 --> 00:27:03.083
And they could say, here's something I'm working on, or here's what I want to do, or I don't know, I'm here to discover.
00:27:03.083 --> 00:27:05.826
And it was adults.
00:27:05.826 --> 00:27:08.951
One of them was retiring from a company.
00:27:08.951 --> 00:27:12.538
But I remember she said, I want...
00:27:12.538 --> 00:27:38.252
to create a garden in my backyard where we it's like a meditation garden and she said and I want to do this for other people she said but I don't have a website she had worked for this company her whole life and she was retiring and she said but I don't have a website so guess what Somebody in there knew how to design websites.
00:27:38.252 --> 00:27:39.516
So they helped.
00:27:39.516 --> 00:27:41.480
So that's why I saw that.
00:27:41.480 --> 00:27:44.866
And then another gentleman in that group wrote a book.
00:27:44.866 --> 00:27:46.289
I love it too.
00:27:46.289 --> 00:27:47.874
Oh my gosh, it's going to go.
00:27:47.874 --> 00:27:49.979
There's going to be a film made by it too.
00:27:49.979 --> 00:27:55.667
But I love that because it was synergy.
00:27:55.667 --> 00:27:59.692
It was the other's energy that said, no, no, no, we can do that.
00:27:59.692 --> 00:28:00.993
I can help you do that.
00:28:00.993 --> 00:28:05.960
And so I really like small group coaching like that too.
00:28:05.960 --> 00:28:09.104
And I thought, I don't know if I'm answering your question.
00:28:09.104 --> 00:28:12.708
Anyway, I really like that a lot.
00:28:12.708 --> 00:28:19.335
My preference now is not one-on-one coaching as much as it is coach.
00:28:19.335 --> 00:28:20.876
I want to touch millions.
00:28:20.876 --> 00:28:23.604
I know Everybody wants to touch millions.
00:28:23.604 --> 00:28:27.387
But I want to touch international.
00:28:27.387 --> 00:28:29.190
I want people to come together.
00:28:29.190 --> 00:28:32.233
We talk unity and we don't act like it.
00:28:32.233 --> 00:28:41.723
And I want to help people see others, not as the color of their skin or how they speak or their career.
00:28:41.723 --> 00:28:42.704
I'm not interested.
00:28:42.704 --> 00:28:44.728
Truthfully, titles don't impress me.
00:28:44.728 --> 00:28:46.589
I don't care if you're a president or what.
00:28:46.589 --> 00:28:48.538
It just doesn't impress me.
00:28:48.538 --> 00:29:01.585
So I just want people to start seeing people as individuals, wherever they live, whatever their religion is, whatever their background is, And I want to help with that.
00:29:01.585 --> 00:29:03.106
I should be in Congress.
00:29:04.189 --> 00:29:04.690
Thank you.
00:29:04.690 --> 00:29:05.951
Thank you so much, Patricia.
00:29:05.951 --> 00:29:07.534
Those are all very helpful.
00:29:07.534 --> 00:29:11.180
And the other thing is I'm looking also at the time.
00:29:11.180 --> 00:29:23.219
The final question I want to ask to you while I still have the time is what advice would you give to other coaches just like you who are trying to scale their impact?
00:29:23.219 --> 00:29:25.442
It would be like an advice you'd give to yourself.
00:29:26.585 --> 00:29:26.944
Yes.
00:29:26.944 --> 00:29:36.319
And I think the best teacher we have is looking at our own issues because everything that others have, we have had.
00:29:36.319 --> 00:29:38.864
And how did we get through it?
00:29:38.864 --> 00:29:52.464
So I think instead of just going by what somebody says in a book, well, Joe said this, or Stephen Covey said this, or somebody else, some big writer today said this.
00:29:52.464 --> 00:29:54.949
Oh, I just have one more story.
00:29:54.949 --> 00:30:08.535
I remember I went to a workshop one time and there was a female leading and she came in and all she had was a flip chart because I don't believe in flip charts and PowerPoints anymore.
00:30:08.535 --> 00:30:09.396
Those are words.
00:30:09.396 --> 00:30:11.361
But anyway, she came in there.
00:30:11.361 --> 00:30:15.990
There was nothing on the flip chart and she started with nothing.
00:30:15.990 --> 00:30:22.916
And we had to create, what was this meeting gonna be about that would be beneficial for all of us?
00:30:22.916 --> 00:30:32.007
So it was a pulling of people together to talk to one another and to find out what did you come here for?
00:30:32.007 --> 00:30:33.568
What did you, yeah.
00:30:33.568 --> 00:30:44.701
And so I think that I would say to other coaches, get out of the rituals, look at the moment.
00:30:44.701 --> 00:30:47.404
Engage with the person.
00:30:47.404 --> 00:30:54.434
That's the thing I like about Zoom versus a telephone call because I can see the person.
00:30:54.434 --> 00:30:58.721
And to me, body language is a lot.
00:30:58.721 --> 00:31:08.395
And I can tell when somebody's confused or that doesn't make sense to me, you know, or something like that.
00:31:08.395 --> 00:31:12.561
Or when they're not participating.
00:31:12.561 --> 00:31:15.125
No, this is not how coaches work.
00:31:15.125 --> 00:31:21.615
So I think get out of the, it's this way, this process.
00:31:21.615 --> 00:31:44.163
And that's why, I don't know if I should, that's why I only, I go to workshops all the time to learn, but not to copy because it helps me see more where my gaps are and not to say, Well, I'm going to get another certification because certificate and that is true.
00:31:44.163 --> 00:31:45.605
That's what opens the door.
00:31:45.605 --> 00:31:55.420
If you went to Yale or you went to Harvard or you got a master's or you does not mean that that person is going to be the right one for that job.
00:31:55.420 --> 00:32:07.056
That's why I'm not really in favor and you can put this in or not of DEI because I think we should look at the individual and say, why are you interested in this work?
00:32:07.056 --> 00:32:08.038
What can you bring?
00:32:08.038 --> 00:32:09.722
What are your talents?
00:32:09.722 --> 00:32:12.265
Just the questions you've been asking me.
00:32:12.265 --> 00:32:13.026
I love them.
00:32:13.026 --> 00:32:16.808
Those are the questions that people need to be asking that coaches.
00:32:16.808 --> 00:32:21.732
And I think that's why I'm getting my website designed now.
00:32:21.732 --> 00:32:24.375
And you could go now and see my website.
00:32:24.375 --> 00:32:29.400
It's Runway to Success, Patricia, patricialennard.net.
00:32:29.400 --> 00:32:32.843
And you can begin to see the controversy.
00:32:32.843 --> 00:32:38.607
Go to my blogs if you want to see something different about how I coach because I coach a lot.
00:32:38.607 --> 00:32:40.150
a lot through blogs too.
00:32:40.150 --> 00:32:45.415
And, you know, I've got one on there, take this job and shove it.
00:32:45.415 --> 00:32:49.680
And then I've got another one on there, my conversation with a frog.
00:32:49.680 --> 00:32:57.308
I'm not like other coaches, but there is a message, artist, in each of the blogs.
00:32:57.308 --> 00:32:59.632
So I hope that helped a little bit.
00:32:59.632 --> 00:33:01.594
Did it to answer your question?
00:33:02.402 --> 00:33:03.083
Yeah, it helped.
00:33:03.083 --> 00:33:03.963
Thank you so much.
00:33:03.963 --> 00:33:05.265
Thank you so much, Patricia.
00:33:05.265 --> 00:33:20.279
And for anyone who wants to find you or connect with you, they can go into your LinkedIn, Patricia Leonard, or they can go into the website, patricialenard.net, and they will be able to find more about you there.
00:33:20.279 --> 00:33:21.019
Yes.
00:33:21.019 --> 00:33:23.843
Let me know if there's any other way they could reach out to you.
00:33:24.344 --> 00:33:30.369
Well, you can take my personal email, it's patricia...
00:33:30.369 --> 00:33:56.460
patricialennard.net and it's a lot like on my website it's just patricialennard.net so i just stayed consistent with that though if you want to learn more about some of the books i've written you can go on my website or you can go on amazon a lot of them on there so uh And they're all very controversial.
00:33:56.460 --> 00:34:00.777
One book, Hello Self, the one you're looking at here is written like a screenplay.
00:34:00.777 --> 00:34:04.540
there's nine frames instead of chapters.
00:34:04.540 --> 00:34:07.644
So I'm different and I like myself.
00:34:07.724 --> 00:34:08.246
Thank you.
00:34:08.246 --> 00:34:09.726
Thank you so much, Patricia.
00:34:09.887 --> 00:34:10.588
Thank you.
00:34:10.588 --> 00:34:11.568
This has been fun.
00:34:11.568 --> 00:34:15.032
I hope I've helped you with what you're looking for too.
00:34:15.373 --> 00:34:17.014
Yeah, that was very helpful.
00:34:17.014 --> 00:34:20.059
I'm going to have to jump off, but thank you so much.
00:34:20.059 --> 00:34:26.967
