I'm Getting iPhone Duo [Friday Wrap-Up]

1
00:00:00,00 --> 00:00:04,580
Hey everybody, and welcome to the Friday wrap up on Streamline Solopreneur. I'm your

2
00:00:04,580 --> 00:00:10,710
host, Joe Casabona, and here's what's on my mind for September 11th, 2026.

3
00:00:10,710 --> 00:00:18,720
Well, it was iPhone week and iPhone Duo was announced by Apple. I've wanted a foldable

4
00:00:18,720 --> 00:00:25,50
phone since I tried the Samsung Galaxy fold back in 2019. I even bought the Motorola

5
00:00:25,50 --> 00:00:30,750
Razor last year to try it kind of as a secondary phone test, the form factor, see

6
00:00:30,750 --> 00:00:36,510
what Android has been up to. And the form factor was okay, but I knew I wasn't trying

7
00:00:36,510 --> 00:00:37,400
the best phone,

8
00:00:37,400 --> 00:00:37,580
uh,

9
00:00:37,580 --> 00:00:42,470
in the foldable market at least because I wasn't willing to spend 1800 bucks on a

10
00:00:42,470 --> 00:00:49,70
secondary phone. And so the truth is, my first real foldable experience will be with

11
00:00:49,550 --> 00:00:50,660
iPhone Duo.

12
00:00:50,660 --> 00:00:52,190
apple finally announced

13
00:00:52,190 --> 00:00:58,250
the foldable on Wednesday of this week. We've known if, if you follow Apple News

14
00:00:58,250 --> 00:00:59,660
and Apple rumors like I do,

15
00:00:59,660 --> 00:01:02,240
you, you know, this has been rumored for a long time.

16
00:01:02,240 --> 00:01:07,220
I'm kind of a sucker, so I like upgrading my phone every year. And, and the reason

17
00:01:07,220 --> 00:01:12,410
is I always want the best camera and the best battery. And so if I could

18
00:01:12,410 --> 00:01:14,120
kind of finance the phone

19
00:01:14,120 --> 00:01:17,630
and pay a, a set monthly payment

20
00:01:17,630 --> 00:01:23,630
for the ability to upgrade it every year with zero a PR, no additional cost to me

21
00:01:23,630 --> 00:01:24,590
that was worth it.

22
00:01:24,590 --> 00:01:28,520
But all of that seems to be changing with the iPhone duo. There's a bunch of things.

23
00:01:29,00 --> 00:01:32,990
Apple got rid of the iPhone upgrade program and now has the Apple upgrade program,

24
00:01:32,990 --> 00:01:34,190
but the phone is also

25
00:01:34,190 --> 00:01:39,710
starts at $1,999. The one I'm getting is $2,100.

26
00:01:40,190 --> 00:01:43,580
so it's more expensive, right? And so I'll likely pay for it over two years to keep

27
00:01:43,580 --> 00:01:47,360
my monthly payments the same, which means I may not be upgrading next year. I could

28
00:01:47,360 --> 00:01:49,580
buy the phone outright if I really wanna buy

29
00:01:49,580 --> 00:01:55,70
the next one next year. And maybe since I know that I can start saving a little extra

30
00:01:55,70 --> 00:01:59,540
every month or in, in the weeks moving up to it, and, and I'll be able to sell the

31
00:01:59,540 --> 00:02:01,100
original iPhone duo. But

32
00:02:01,100 --> 00:02:04,880
I suspect for a bunch of reasons, I'm, I'm gonna keep this phone for two years.

33
00:02:04,880 --> 00:02:09,130
I'm already not going to get the best camera this year, right? Because it's not as

34
00:02:09,130 --> 00:02:15,620
good as the iPhone 18 Pro. It is, I think, comparable to the 17, which is what I

35
00:02:15,620 --> 00:02:20,00
currently have. But there's no telephoto lens, there's also no action button and

36
00:02:20,00 --> 00:02:21,470
no fast charging. So

37
00:02:21,470 --> 00:02:22,220
I am,

38
00:02:22,220 --> 00:02:27,860
uh, doing a lot of trade-offs from the pro that I currently have to get the duo.

39
00:02:28,190 --> 00:02:34,730
But I think the bigger screen that fits in my pocket will be worth it. The nano technology

40
00:02:34,730 --> 00:02:39,800
on the screen that causes little to no glare is exciting. The fact that it works

41
00:02:39,800 --> 00:02:46,230
with an Apple pencil is awesome. And so I am willing to sacrifice some of those things,

42
00:02:46,230 --> 00:02:49,20
especially 'cause like I realized in the last couple of years, I don't really take

43
00:02:49,20 --> 00:02:49,950
that many pictures.

44
00:02:49,950 --> 00:02:50,640
I will

45
00:02:50,640 --> 00:02:55,170
take pictures sometimes, and if they're going to be the same quality as what I currently

46
00:02:55,170 --> 00:02:59,880
have, I'm fine with that. I'm not posting anything on social media. So these pictures

47
00:02:59,880 --> 00:03:04,440
are largely for me to be viewed on the phone anyway. And so

48
00:03:04,440 --> 00:03:09,80
I am very excited. I can't wait to pre-order this phone on October 16th.

49
00:03:09,80 --> 00:03:15,230
I always appreciate Mkb HD's videos and his hands-on with iPhone duo is really good.

50
00:03:15,230 --> 00:03:16,190
So I will link that

51
00:03:16,190 --> 00:03:17,540
in the description.

52
00:03:17,540 --> 00:03:20,660
now if you, are you an Apple nerd? Do you have something on your mind?

53
00:03:20,660 --> 00:03:22,850
Have thoughts about the iPhone duo

54
00:03:22,850 --> 00:03:27,190
uh, let me know over@streamlinedfeedback.com. You can write in or leave a voice note.

55
00:03:27,580 --> 00:03:33,910
I might even play that voice note on the show. Alright, let's move over to recommended

56
00:03:33,910 --> 00:03:34,600
reading.

57
00:03:34,600 --> 00:03:34,960
And,

58
00:03:34,960 --> 00:03:39,10
this is an episode of Ditching Hourly by Jonathan Stark.

59
00:03:39,10 --> 00:03:39,580
Nick

60
00:03:39,580 --> 00:03:42,640
Rich Meyer. I think I'm saying that right, the damn rules.

61
00:03:42,640 --> 00:03:43,990
after last week's

62
00:03:43,990 --> 00:03:45,580
newsletter and episode,

63
00:03:45,580 --> 00:03:50,650
reader Garrett wrote in and recommended this episode of Ditching Hourly by Jonathan Stark.

64
00:03:50,650 --> 00:03:51,460
And I loved it.

65
00:03:51,460 --> 00:03:56,470
Nick kind of walks through doing things that don't scale and focusing on impact,

66
00:03:56,470 --> 00:04:00,70
and that stuff really resonated with me. So I would recommend the episode.

67
00:04:00,70 --> 00:04:04,320
This is in recommended reading because I ordered Nick's book, the Damn Rules, which

68
00:04:04,320 --> 00:04:08,160
should be delivered today. So, really excited to read that.

69
00:04:08,160 --> 00:04:11,910
something that really sold me on the book was that it's like in, it's, it's it

70
00:04:11,910 --> 00:04:15,990
embossed and engraved. It's, it's like kind of letter pressed. They spend a lot of

71
00:04:15,990 --> 00:04:17,880
time on the cover

72
00:04:17,880 --> 00:04:21,480
kind of to show right, do things that are slow, that you can't do fast, that don't

73
00:04:21,480 --> 00:04:24,660
scale. And I, I really enjoyed that part.

74
00:04:24,660 --> 00:04:28,380
So that is the recommended reading slash listening for this week.

75
00:04:28,380 --> 00:04:30,480
Okay, something fun.

76
00:04:30,480 --> 00:04:33,990
everything you can see the official teaser. This is the,

77
00:04:33,990 --> 00:04:39,960
surprise documentary that was announced at the Telluride Festival earlier this week.

78
00:04:39,960 --> 00:04:40,560
And,

79
00:04:40,560 --> 00:04:42,960
I don't know how much fun this is versus chilling.

80
00:04:42,960 --> 00:04:48,690
but I'm, I'm really excited for this movie. If you don't know about Elizabeth Holmes

81
00:04:48,960 --> 00:04:54,660
and the story of Theranos, I recommend you check it out. It's wild. It it, I I listened

82
00:04:54,660 --> 00:05:01,50
to the audio version of John Car Ru's book, bad Blood, which is a deep dive into

83
00:05:01,260 --> 00:05:02,850
Elizabeth Holmes and the company

84
00:05:02,850 --> 00:05:03,600
Theranos.

85
00:05:03,600 --> 00:05:08,970
I, I did this in 2019, and apparently 2019 was very influential on, on today's newsletter

86
00:05:09,90 --> 00:05:10,560
and episode. But,

87
00:05:10,560 --> 00:05:13,590
it, it, it reads like a work of fiction

88
00:05:13,590 --> 00:05:18,750
because the stories are so outlandish and the things that she got away with and the

89
00:05:18,750 --> 00:05:20,340
people that she fooled,

90
00:05:20,340 --> 00:05:22,80
just wild.

91
00:05:22,80 --> 00:05:27,840
and, and so really interesting. I also listened to the subsequent podcast and followed

92
00:05:27,840 --> 00:05:29,880
Elizabeth Holmes trial very closely.

93
00:05:29,880 --> 00:05:35,250
spoiler alert, she was found guilty and is sentenced to, I think 35 years in jail.

94
00:05:35,250 --> 00:05:41,370
this documentary is about the days before she goes to jail. She's apparently very

95
00:05:41,370 --> 00:05:44,940
charismatic and can win over even strong detractors,

96
00:05:44,940 --> 00:05:51,240
but she's also committed incredible fraud and put people in physical danger

97
00:05:51,240 --> 00:05:55,20
in pursuit of being the next Steve Jobs. And so, I'll be very curious to see what

98
00:05:55,20 --> 00:05:56,130
we learn. I read an an,

99
00:05:56,130 --> 00:05:59,820
I think it was an Axios article about the movie.

100
00:05:59,820 --> 00:06:02,100
and, and it, it's really a look into

101
00:06:02,100 --> 00:06:05,400
what makes her tick and does she really believe the things that she says.

102
00:06:05,370 --> 00:06:06,570
So that is the

103
00:06:06,570 --> 00:06:09,210
something fun. I guess. It's fun 'cause it's a movie.

104
00:06:09,210 --> 00:06:09,660
so,

105
00:06:09,660 --> 00:06:10,200
uh,

106
00:06:10,200 --> 00:06:10,470
I am,

107
00:06:10,470 --> 00:06:11,640
I'm excited to see it.

108
00:06:11,640 --> 00:06:14,520
All right, something to help with your systems.

109
00:06:14,520 --> 00:06:14,760
Uh,

110
00:06:14,790 --> 00:06:17,370
calling this audio splitter, separating audio by Clap

111
00:06:17,370 --> 00:06:22,950
almost on a whim on Monday, I decided to do a 30 days of podcast notes over on my

112
00:06:22,950 --> 00:06:27,870
other podcast, the streamlined podcaster for September, which is International Podcast

113
00:06:27,870 --> 00:06:32,610
Month. Now, I still help people with podcasts and, and around their content systems,

114
00:06:32,610 --> 00:06:32,910
but,

115
00:06:32,910 --> 00:06:36,630
I maintain this podcast largely to keep using rss.com.

116
00:06:36,630 --> 00:06:39,930
who for whom? I am an evangelist and I want to test all of the features. And I thought

117
00:06:39,930 --> 00:06:43,470
this would be a fun project. But the

118
00:06:43,470 --> 00:06:48,240
thing about this is because I decided on September 7th to do this,

119
00:06:48,240 --> 00:06:52,380
I had to backdate seven days, right? Because I wanted one episode per day for the

120
00:06:52,380 --> 00:06:53,130
month of September.

121
00:06:53,130 --> 00:06:56,940
So I had to batch, and I definitely need to batch for sure. I'm not recording these

122
00:06:56,940 --> 00:06:58,740
episodes one off each day.

123
00:06:58,740 --> 00:07:03,150
And so I, I decided I would only do this if I could make it as easy as humanly possible.

124
00:07:03,150 --> 00:07:05,940
And so here's what is happening all in a Claude skill.

125
00:07:05,940 --> 00:07:10,920
I record a bunch of episodes in a single recording. This is like five to 10 episodes

126
00:07:10,920 --> 00:07:13,650
in a single recording clapping between each one.

127
00:07:13,650 --> 00:07:18,330
I upload the audio to Claude, the file name includes the episode numbers that are

128
00:07:18,330 --> 00:07:23,940
included in this range, and then Claude separates and numbers the episodes based

129
00:07:23,940 --> 00:07:29,430
on the claps in the waveform. That was incredibly surprising to me. Then it will

130
00:07:29,430 --> 00:07:36,610
transcribe each episode and create the title, something like Topic. And then in bracket

131
00:07:36,640 --> 00:07:39,460
day, whatever of 30 days of podcast notes,

132
00:07:39,460 --> 00:07:44,320
it'll create a simple description with my required links and a disclosure that AI

133
00:07:44,320 --> 00:07:49,870
wrote it. That's going to be at the bottom of every description that AI fully wrote

134
00:07:49,870 --> 00:07:50,680
this description.

135
00:07:50,680 --> 00:07:55,00
then it uploads it all to rss.com using my,

136
00:07:55,00 --> 00:08:00,220
rss.com Claude skill, which has a, a script, an API script

137
00:08:00,220 --> 00:08:01,60
that Claude wrote.

138
00:08:01,60 --> 00:08:04,480
and it'll schedule it on the day that corresponds with the episode number. So if

139
00:08:04,480 --> 00:08:07,480
it is episode 11 like it is today, as I record this,

140
00:08:07,480 --> 00:08:12,490
it will schedule it on September 11th and 12 will be scheduled on September 12th,

141
00:08:12,820 --> 00:08:13,870
so on and so forth.

142
00:08:13,870 --> 00:08:17,770
I will review everything before publish, but it's very, very light touch for me.

143
00:08:18,70 --> 00:08:22,90
I record these episodes and then everything else happens in the background. I'm very

144
00:08:22,90 --> 00:08:22,660
clear

145
00:08:22,660 --> 00:08:27,310
with the audience that these are messy voice notes that are not edited. I leave the

146
00:08:27,310 --> 00:08:32,350
mess up in, I make it really clear. And so I, I wouldn't do something like that for

147
00:08:32,350 --> 00:08:35,950
this show, which is edited and a little more polished.

148
00:08:35,950 --> 00:08:41,20
But this process has been working out really well. I've recorded and scheduled 15,

149
00:08:41,290 --> 00:08:45,850
probably in about an hour total, where all, almost all of that was talking, right?

150
00:08:45,850 --> 00:08:50,680
each episode is between two and seven minutes long. And then I run the Claude skill

151
00:08:50,680 --> 00:08:54,550
and if, you know, if there's like little idiosyncrasies I need to fix, but

152
00:08:54,550 --> 00:08:59,470
it's just, it's been a really great experience. And so I am excited to see,

153
00:08:59,470 --> 00:09:02,770
because I started this on September 7th, I will go till October 7th, which means

154
00:09:02,770 --> 00:09:03,40
that

155
00:09:03,40 --> 00:09:07,810
the October episodes will kind of be a retrospective on this project and how it went.

156
00:09:08,170 --> 00:09:14,620
So that is the something to help your systems really impressed by this computer task

157
00:09:14,710 --> 00:09:16,120
that Claude is very good at.

158
00:09:16,120 --> 00:09:17,470
Alright, so,

159
00:09:17,470 --> 00:09:21,310
that's it for this episode. I do wanna close out, you know, I wanna recognize that

160
00:09:21,340 --> 00:09:24,310
this episode's coming out on September 11th, but before I get to that,

161
00:09:24,310 --> 00:09:31,780
if you need help with your systems, if you are doing everything yourself and you

162
00:09:32,20 --> 00:09:34,120
want to take things off of your plate,

163
00:09:34,120 --> 00:09:38,710
but you don't want to hire a team or rely too much on AI to do the actual craft for

164

uh,

169
00:09:53,380 --> 00:09:56,110
today is nine 11. I wanna close out on,

170
00:09:56,110 --> 00:09:56,800
uh,

171
00:09:56,800 --> 00:10:00,790
I saying my, one of my favorite speeches is, is maybe not right, but,

172
00:10:00,790 --> 00:10:04,330
one of the most poignant to me. It's from the Flight 93,

173
00:10:04,840 --> 00:10:05,200
uh,

174
00:10:05,230 --> 00:10:08,890
Memorial, and it's from George W. Bush. It was for the 10 year anniversary

175
00:10:08,890 --> 00:10:10,480
of nine 11. I grew up in New York.

176
00:10:10,480 --> 00:10:13,900
I was in high school. I knew I had friends who lost parents.

177
00:10:13,900 --> 00:10:14,230
Uh,

178
00:10:14,230 --> 00:10:14,710
and so,

179
00:10:15,400 --> 00:10:19,300
commemorating this and remembering to,

180
00:10:19,300 --> 00:10:22,240
honor those we lost on that day is very important to me.

181
00:10:22,240 --> 00:10:23,710
and so I wanna close out with this.

182
00:10:23,710 --> 00:10:27,670
but thanks so much for listening, and until next time, I hope you find some space

183
00:10:27,790 --> 00:10:28,510
in your weekend.

184
00:10:30,820 --> 00:10:32,290
He added the whirl little note,

185
00:10:32,800 --> 00:10:34,660
nor long remember what we say here,

186
00:10:35,710 --> 00:10:37,540
but it can never forget what they did here.

187
00:10:38,890 --> 00:10:40,360
So it is with Flight 93,

188
00:10:41,710 --> 00:10:44,230
for as long as this memorial stands, we will remember

189
00:10:44,770 --> 00:10:46,930
what the men and women aboard the plane did here.

190
00:10:48,340 --> 00:10:49,120
We'll pay tribute to

191
00:10:49,120 --> 00:10:50,140
the courage they showed,

192
00:10:51,40 --> 00:10:52,480
the sacrifice they made,

193
00:10:53,320 --> 00:10:54,580
and the lives they spared.

194
00:10:56,80 --> 00:10:57,490
The United States will never forget.
